Opinions de East Garden Restaurant Alhambra
Highly recommend this place! It has saved me from having to trek all the way to SGV for authentic Chinese food. Ordered 3 dishes to takeaway and loved every single one! The salt and pepper pork was well seasoned and crispy, and the cuts of meat were not super fatty which I have found more often than not at other places with this dish. The hainan chicken rice was so flavourful and the chicken was so soft. The beef chow fun had the right amount of ‘wok’ fried taste and lots of pieces of beef.
Very fresh cuisine. Delicious food choices. Disappointed because there wasn't a fortune cookie but the slice of watermelon was refreshing.
East Garden A Hidden Gem in the Heart of the City Tucked away in a quiet plaza, East Garden delivers comforting Chinese classics with a warm, family run vibe. The sesame chicken is crispy perfection, and the hot & sour soup hits all the right notes. Service is fast, friendly, and refreshingly genuine. Whether you’re grabbing takeout or settling in for a cozy meal, this spot feels like home. Don’t skip the house made chili oil it’s magic.
During my last visit to Chinatown, my partner and some friends enjoyed a meal nearby, and I couldn’t help but notice the hustle and bustle of this restaurant. A couple of months later, we decided to give it a try, and I’m so glad we did—they did not disappoint! The restaurant was clean and inviting, and I was pleasantly surprised by the extensive menu. We opted for a mix of dim sum and a lunch special. The shiu mai and beef noodle roll were delicious, while the spare ribs could have been improved. That said, the pork chops were a bit on the salty side due to MSG, but they were incredibly flavorful and damn delicious! The service was good, typical of a chinese restaurant IYKYK Overall, I highly recommend this place and can’t wait to return!
East Garden in Chinatown is a must-visit for dim sum lovers. Their shrimp dumplings are huge and juicy, while the fried dough is crispy and satisfying. The beef rice noodle rolls are soft and tender with just the right amount of sweet soy sauce. We also loved the walnut shrimp—creamy and perfectly paired with candied walnuts.
We stopped for lunch-dinner before living Chinatown. The place was empty (on a Wednesday),except for takeout orders which kept being picked up. Their food is delicious and we plan to come back, we had tea before the meal such a delicious with notes of orange blossom and jasmine. Our meal somewhat was excessive since we wanted to try everything, we kept ordering but didn’t take pictures of the other items. However we recommend this restaurant has such good service and delicious food! There’s plenty of parking and price wise it was a fair amount to pay for such exquisite meal. We will be back soon!
This has to be the best Chinese food I’ve had in such a long time it was 10 out of 10 so so good. The house special lobster dish was incredibly amazing. Best lobster I’ve had. We had the orange chicken, shrimp kung pao, honey walnut, shrimp, pecking duck, braised Japanese tofu, sautéed pea leaves, beef chow fun, fried shrimps, and steam juice dumplings. Service was super great and friendly and very efficient and fast. Very cute restaurant you will have to pay for parking. It was seven dollars at 5 PM.
For being in the heart of China Town, it was not very busy at all. Great ambiance. Tasty, authentic Chinese food. Reasonable prices. Good size servings. Excellent service.
Good Cantonese food! Enjoyed the Dim Sum items and the entrees. Probably the best I've had in some time. We went with some cousins and we all enjoyed it. The Chow Mein was perfect. The Beef dry noodles were enjoyable. I especially liked the Har Gow and the molten bao with yellow creme inside.
The attention to the food in this place is very cared for. The cooks definitely know how to cook every dish to ensure customer satisfaction. Every single dish was delicious, hot, and seasoned appropriately. There’s complimentary hot tea at every table and the service here was spectacular. The thai tea is also amazing!! would come here again
Loved the $9.99 Chinese breakfast/lunch deal they have!! Was here with a friend and we both goth some congee (and a small side) each for only $10. Although, if coming with someone else, I definitely would not advise on both getting congee because the portions were HUGE and are so shareable. So, diversify your dishes!! We also got some dim sum and it was pretty good! We were basically the only people who were not Chinese aunties and uncles and grandmas so you know it’s legit! Good food and good prices in LA’s Chinatown!
Great place if you know what to order. I went here around 12 pm on a Friday because where I parked was adjacent to it. I tried the pork and preserved egg porridge (8.45) and the fish maw soup (17.95). They were fine. Porridge is more toward the watery side, and the soup had plenty of fish bladder and frozen crab meat in it. Both were portioned well. We also tried the dim sum Almost all were very good. Chicken feet had a hint of preserved black bean; the hoisin sauce was more dominant here. The one exception was the fried donut, it was refried, and tasted of burnt oil. Next I had the won ton noodles with brisket and tendon (12.95). The won tons were the largest I have seen , double the usual size, and tasted good as well. You get seven od them. The meats were stewed well and were in a watery gravy that covered the noodles. Noodles were the weak point, they were kind of thin and limp, but still serviceable. Friend had the char siu with his wonton noodles (9.95). He remarked it was good, but the pork was baked and not roasted. Notes. The dishes tend to be light on salt here. Which I liked. Place has a lot of takeout orders. There was at one point, they had about 15 persons in line at the till.
I found this little restaurant thanks to a Yelp review. The prices are great which is why I'll be back often and the taste of the food is totally on point! I'm an extremely critical food snob so to be thoroughly satisfied by my order of the tofu and the chicken rice is a feat in and of itself.
Great Hong Kong style Chinese food in Chinatown. Good to see new Chinese business actually coming back in Chinatown. Great selection of food, including Egg Waffles. We got the Chef's special: Shrimp Fried Rice in Pineapple, with includes an actual Pineapple!!! Prices are a bit higher compare to other Chinese restaurant but their food is great tasty and their restaurant environment is clean.

Everything we ordered was great. Eggplant, beef chow fun, green beans with beef, thousand year old egg congee, corn rice roll, everything tastes great. Restrooms are not clean, but par for the course for Chinese restaurants

Such yummy food! I found this place in September while looking for a good food spot. I hit the jackpot! My family loves this place. I took my dad for his bday, and this is his new downtown spot too. Food comes out fast and hot. Everyone is friendly, price is affordable.
Great restaurant! But it wasn't a 5. Staffs were nice and foods were fast. It was cheap too! We ordered three dishes: scrambled eggs with shrimps, fried crispy sole, and beef short ribs. They were all good. The parking lot was $5 all day, but you could find parking on the street. I left slightly before 8pm and the parking attendant was gone so you could park for free when dining late!
Stopped in before seeing a show near by and we enjoyed everything. The tea was a nice touch to bring out and was hot and really good. All of the food was flavorful and a nice portion to share. The egg roll were also great. Even got some mango custard at the end and it was a nice way to end a meal. Will visit again if I am back in town
It was actually pretty good. I liked my spicy garlic shrimp & sweet and sour fish. The crispy noodles were good too.
Went to Chinatown after the noon mass and found this place. We haven’t been here and so for a change we decided to walk in and got seated right away. Most all tables are occupied. We didn’t get disappointed because the food was good and delicious. Service was fine and they’re nice sever as well. We also met the owner of the restaurant and she’s nice. People are coming in and out. If you’re in Chinatown try this place and for sure you will like the food too. Serving are big good for 4 people. But I went here only me and my mom. Very reasonable price too. 👍🏻👍🏻
We come here every time we’re in Chinatown. Although it’s affordable, the menu has changed. Dim sum prices are low at mainly $4.99 each. There’s a package to select one item from A and one from B for $9.99. We got our usual of: -Shiu mai - small but tasty -Har gor - small but tasty and skin was in tact -Chicken feet - need to be steamed longer. Skin did not fall off the bones and still tough. -BBQ pork noodle roll - the outer flour rice noodle was too much and very few bbq pork. I’m used to a nicely wrapped roll like a burrito. This was like layers and layers of crepe. Still tasty but meat to noodle ratio was off. -Egg yolk buns - my mom loved these. The salted egg yolk inside oozed out when you cut into it. Overall, very affordable, on the smaller size due to the price and still tasty. We used to order salted egg chicken fried rice entree but it’s no longer on the menu. I also asked if they had other options for dessert. They only have the egg yolk bun or sesame bun.

The food isn't really authentic. We wanted to try their milk tea, we asked them if the milk tea is Hong Kong style, none of them could give me a definite answer - and of course, one said it is and we trusted him but it turned out it's not at all. The Hainanese Chicken rice wasn't really Hainanese to be honest, it was Scallion Oil Chicken rice at best.
Pleasant, clean interior with fast service. Fish maw soup had good flavor but maw was leathery tough. Salt and Pepper Squid was overcooked. Scallop Fried Rice was made using rock hard dried scallops, and it almost broke my teeth to eat. I'm not sure the people working here understand Cantonese cooking.

Food was ok. Above average. Wasn't overly busy. Service was above average. If you had a place on China Town you like. And it was closed for some reason. Then I would say East Garden is a place you could go and not be disappointed
Terrible customer service!!! Waitress never came back to check on us after we ordered. The bus staff brought out our food. She didnt even get us the check. Ever other table got condiments except our table. Desperate needed for soy sauce. Fried rice had minimal meat in it. Had to pick through it to find it. Had to beg to get a glass of water. Will never eat here again. Only plus was they did have a big selection to choose from.
The food was okay overall. The fried rice was probably the best part—flavorful and well-cooked. The Mongolian beef was just alright, nothing special. What really affected the experience was the service. A lot of menu items weren’t available, and the server seemed rushed and inattentive, like they just wanted to leave. It didn’t feel welcoming at all. I still paid the bill with the 15% gratuity, but it felt more like an automatic charge than a tip that was earned. Hopefully the service and availability improve, because the food has some potential.
I had a really disappointing experience at this restaurant. The server was rude and confrontational when I was simply making a request, and her attitude made it clear that she was annoyed. While she did come back to check on me, she avoided engaging… she’d make brief eye contact, then quickly look away, almost like she didn’t want me to ask for anything else. It made me feel uncomfortable and unwelcome. I ended up losing my appetite and leaving shortly after. Unfortunately, I won’t be coming back.
The food was OK. It is American-Chinese style and well above average. I liked the congee here. However I'd say the service is not so great. You don't see smelly faces and warm grating. Maybe they aren't just really into serving people with Chinese looking. This is somewhat common in Chinatown in the US these days. I have been in US for 10 years and it is a bit disappointing to see this. Also, if you have a Chinese looking, they seem to impose a fixed tip into your bill, so make sure to watch out before proceeding to the payment.
This is the worst Chinese restaurant we’ve been to in a long time. Air conditioning wasn’t working. We were sweating bullets in there. This restaurant serves Chinese food for non Asians. That’s all I can say about their food. They do have authentic dishes listed on the menu. But they were not good at all. The staff were nice though. Everyone was friendly and cheerful. Without the good service, this would be a 1 star review from us. Sorry, I don’t recommend anyone coming here for food.

This place obviously only welcomes locals. After being on the road for a long time on our honeymoon doing route 66, we decided to stay at the best western where the lady at reception said we should try this place and we love to go by recommendations. We turned up at 8.30pm (didn’t realise they close at 9pm) no real welcome but just told they close at 9pm, at this point we should have left as obviously weren’t interested in our custom and all the staff were busy eating their own dinner (first time I’ve ever seen that in a restaurant that is still open) and when they came to our table still finishing their mouthful and food on their mouth. We were only allowed to order certain items due to the time and we felt massively rushed, whilst eating (and yes the food was lovely) we were given the check and then told to pay as the register was closing so at that point I stopped eating as obviously we had to rush. I wouldn’t mind too much as understand we were later but locals had come in after us (we know as we spoke to them), had lots of food which was still coming out after 9pm, they were not rushed to pay and would be there for quite a while seeing that they still had loads of food when we left. I explained to the waiter that we had bad service and was told I was never welcomed back. I usually go with my gut which I should have with this place and wish I had. After being in the USA for 17 days and travelled from Chicago therefore stopped in many places, this has been the worst service I’ve experienced and put a massive dampener and downer at the end of our trip. So unless you are a local… do not go here
This is one of the craziest experiences I've ever had. There was literally a metal wire cooked in my chicken. PLEASE see the picture. I was taken back when I pulled it out my mouth. This was bad, but not as bad as the customer service when I called to complain. The person who answered the phone refused to let me speak to a manager and said this is the first time anyone complained about this so not a big deal. It's not a big deal that I could of choked and died for eating a piece of Orange Chicken with a metal wire cooked in it. I said have the manager call me because this is not ok. He took my number down and said I don't know if he will call you as he doesn't know when the manager will be in next. I really don't care, I have time for this. Still waiting.
The food taste was below average and they don't tell you they charge the lobster by the pound and don't ask you how many pounds you want, just over charge you. They add the tip to your bill without telling you!! They stuck us in some plain side building having to walk outside on the street with our food out on the street. People walking by smoking!! Do not go to this place!!
Walked past this place and decided to give it a go. Quite cheap for yum Cha. But they forgot our order :( which is my favourite chicken feet. I went there recently again, found out they put 15% tips automatically was charged and when they passed me the receipt to sign, asking tips again! Never return! That is dodgy
Don’t go to this restaurant if u care about service attitude or u don’t know how to speak Cantonese. The tips is fixed percentage so u cannot even complain about the horrible service attitude. The price is expensive and food just tastes normal. The waiters is attractive respond to other people who speak Cantonese, and we cannot get any respond when we speak mandarin. Don’t trust the comment online who said it is a good restaurant!
I've been in LA now for 2 months and that is by the most vile food I've had. Sitting down was like detention center in the eighth grade and your mom comes to pick you up to say that there is microwaveable vegan meatloaf at home.
