Opinions de The Century Bar & Grill Alpine
The Food was good, nice little char on the smash burger. Good flavor. The Hot didn't have much flavor heat for that matter. It was however tender juicy and cooked to perfection. The chicken fried steak tender and cooked perfectly. NOW the spicy fries stole the show!!! I definitely recommend this place and will be trying other items later on.
Loved everything about our dinner. We had blackened red fish and it was excellent. As was the salad, drinks and dessert! The waitress, and the cook were outstanding. Both were so sweet. The manager went above and beyond to make our evening truly wonderful! They are trying to come back after a year of covid and they are seriously doing an outstanding job.
I read all the reviews and came for dinner with an open mind. The atmosphere, food and waitstaff was beyond fabulous. Not sure why anyone would share a review less than 5 stars...prices were a bit high but the value was more than adequate. Enjoyed a burger and my husband had steak - both were very, very good. We will definitely be back every time we come to Alpine, and strongly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a pleasant dining experience.
We stopped after a long afternoon at big bend. The service was prompt and super friendly (Sara was our waitress) and our food delicious (we both had the steak and fries and shared the Caesar salad). The wine list was a bit odd but we found something that we enjoyed at a decent price point. Would definitely recommend if you are looking for a nicer meal on the area.
I don't throw five stars around very easily four is usually as high as go... the outside dining area is the bomb. The food is definitely had a Class A level with a lot of creativity in the service has been fantastic from the time we walked in, if I make it back to Alpine I will definitely make it back here.
We (5 of us) were there on a Tuesday evening. After reading previous reviews about great food but questionable service we were being extra observant. Bottom line is that service was great as was the food. Staff was super attentive and timely. We have nut allergies and all our concerns were addressed confidently. The outdoor courtyard was awesome. Only downside was the mac and cheese was not available. Was a super evening.
A very good meal. I had the chicken fried steak. This is some of the best mashed potatoes I've ever had. The service was a little slow initially , but it was probably due to the day before Thanksgiving so I was okay with that. Make sure you call ahead for reservations.
Good heated outdoor seating (central patio) for safe eating during CoVID. Pork chop and hatch chili chicken fried steak are excellent. Fries are well seasoned and crispy. Sauteed broccoli is nice and crispy, not cooked to death like most American restaurants. Service takes a little time but the food is worth it!
👌 excellent! Try the truffle chips they were great 👍. Spinach ravioli was superb. Blackened red fish was excellent. Rib eye cooked to perfection.
In short, Fantastic place given you are in a small town in the vast Texas desert. With a few more details, Food was good, place had a nice vibe inside the hotel and clean and service was very nice and friendly. It would prob be 4 stars if it was in Austin but I’ll cut em slack and give them 5. Kudos to them giving good quality tasty food in such a remote location.
Fine, I’ll give it 5 stars. I’m super cheap and the Tater dish with green beans, mushroom, and cheese is pretty boss. It’s small for $16 (about the size of a large gumbo in NOLA valued at $10), but it’s quite tasty. The Caesar salad? Good, solid. The spinach and artichoke dip? Good but even better with their fried bread dipping chip thing. Boss, and quite unique of a design (instead of a chip or bowtie noodle). Their $45 steak? Excellent. In Houston or Dallas, it’s going to be $65 for the same steak with smooth, creamy mash potatoes and a subtle crunchy, well flavored green beans. Overall, pricey but it’s in a fancy hotel. Service at the bar table? Weak. The server is running the bar and the bar-tables so he couldn’t bounce from bar to our table very easily. Nice guy just mostly busy. So…5 star still b/c of the food.
Tried this place again, with better results, so I upgraded it to 5 stars. Second Visit This time we enjoyed a 3 dishes: the Ribeye with asparagus spears and garlic mashed potatoes, swordfish ceviche with chips, and a cup of split pea soup with ham and a toasted slice of garlic buttered sourdough bread. All three of these were wonderful full of flavor and delicious. Beware, the swordfish ceviche is a little on the spicy side and has a good kick to it. First Visit Nice place. Very historic with that south western feel. The hotel looks cool, but this is for The Century Bar & Grill. You have to go through the bar to get there, so be sure to ask around if you can't find it and everyone will help get you there. We had the fried pickles as an appetizer and they were so good, between my son and I, we forgot the usual picture. Main courses; fish and chips (really I had fries), then the beef and bratwurst burger with waffle cut sweet potato fries. The fish was thick cut with a crumb coating fried to perfection the regular fries were, we'll regular fries. The beef and bratwurst burger, was very unique, one patty was beef and a second patty from a smashed bratwurst. Together the flavor was amplified by the caramelized onions and Horseradish sauce. The waffle cut sweet potatoe fries were delicious. Our server was very friendly and perfectly timed her table appearances when we needed something or to check on food quality and preparation. We were there for an early dinner, so the bar was busier than the restaurant.
I had my wedding at The Holland Hotel this weekend where I had Century Bar and Grill cater my wedding dinner for a party of 27. Jon was exceptional at preparing all the food. We chose the Chicken Marsala, Chicken Alfredo, green beans, potatoes, salad, rolls, and the meat and cheese platter as an appetizer. I didn’t get many pictures due to me not having my phone on my wedding day, but all of my guests raved about how good the food was!! There was plenty of leftovers and I ate Alfredo for about three days afterwards. Jon made sure everything was perfect. I cannot recommend the Century Bar and Grill more for events!!!! Thank you so much to you and your staff for making my wedding weekend an absolute dream. PS we ate there again, and I ordered the ribeye that was delicious!! I attached a picture of my wedding plate and steak here.
The food was great. Went there 2 times in a week. Service was good, the staff was very friendly. Ordered balsamic salad and calamari on day 1, day 2 was spicy chicken burger and a side salad.
If you want fine dining in the great unknown area of Texas which is the South-west portion… this is where you go. Top notch. This would have cost me 350 dollars in Houston. I think I paid about 200 dollars for four people with drinks here. It was underpriced considering the quality of food/drink/service received. CHEERS!!!!!!!! Order up!
Excellent food, service and ambiance. We were seated by the door to the patio so every time the door opened, we got a rush of cold air but it wasn't a big issue for us. We were eating rather quickly to get to another commitment ..... which the server was VERY accommodating. Thus if that dash of cold air might be an issue for you, consider asking for another table if they seat you there. I like to ask a server what their favorite dish is, and what do people who come here frequently order. SHE KNEW and loved sharing that with us. There's nothing more zapping of energy to start a dining experience when a server shrugs with an "I don't know". She KNEW the menu, what she liked, what her customers liked AND WHY. All homemade dressings, I couldn't decide so I gave her the decision-making. Same with dessert. She loved that. Her enjoyment on that and the back-and-forth interaction was the cherry-on-top for a great dining experience. I had the honey-glazed salmon. My husband the chicken fried chicken. My salmon was cooked PERFECTLY. P.E.R.F.E.C.T.L.Y. NOTE: She said people frequently order the fish and chips. I needed less fried and more color on my plate, as I had a catfish basket, while traveling, the night before. She said she normally doesn't eat fish but she loves their blackened fish. Oh ..... and here's a picture of the fabulous lighting fixture overhead our table and lobby of the adjoining historic hotel. Quite lovely. (Treasure hunt: look at the back of the chairs at the large table in the lobby. Very cool.)
On my exploration of different areas I ran into this Bar & grill and was surprised on the food. I can't lie the price point was a bit high but it tasted pretty good I had ordered the Spinach artichoke dip which was really good and the Bison Ribs were juicy and tender.
Nice resteraunt and hotel! I wanted something different and ordered the Vegan Bowl. It was so good! I was pleasantly surprised by the sweet sauce that was over this bowl. Also, the margaritas are delicious 😋
Great place with some rich history and atmosphere. Food is top notch made with high quality ingredients and great taste. Love to eat out on the open air back patio. They have nice one of a kind bar drinks. Catch it on the right time and you'll experience some world class entertainment as well. A must stop when visiting or coming through Alpine.
I went to The Century Bar and Grill last week with my boyfriend, and it was great! I got the chicken fried steak with brussel sprouts and shells and cheese. It was delicious!!! I love the brussel sprouts there; they REALLY know how to make them. My boyfriend's steak was cooked perfectly, which can sometimes be difficult to find in restaurants in the area. The staff is so awesome. I make this a once a month dinner, if I'm able to 😃
I got the Century Chop. The pork was cooked absolutely to perfection. There was a base of something underneath it, though. That was wretched. Absolutely horrific. Smelled awful, tasted even worse. The pork chop was great, though. It gets five stars for that.
We stayed at the Holland Hotel where this restaurant coexisted. Our server Christi was the sweetest and ensured that my son's birthday was celebrated with a Happy Birthday song while serving him a creme blrulee (on the house)! My son ordered their burger meal, and I had the country fried steak! It's the best country steak I've ever had matching with amazing mashed potatoes! Though the house marg was a little sweeter than usual margs, our experience was amazing!
Amazing atmosphere. Quality staff. The food is well prepared and thought-filled. A HUGE FAN of this place.
A trip to this place is so worth it. This bar and restaurant are located in a beautiful old hotel. Patrons can dine in bar, inside, or on their beautiful patio. Food and service are great.

Visiting from out of town and found this wonderful restaurant. Christie, our sever was fabulous and attended to our every need with a smile. The food was great, portions were large, and we took home the extra. We had a nice little table in the corner with a view of the patio. Our kids had been here before and we will be back again too, the next time we visit.
Food was delicious! My husband and I both have food allergies (gluten and dairy) and the chef was very accommodating. Service was good. Did have to wait a little bit on the food, but this isn't a fast food place so not a big deal. UPDATE: We returned to this restaurant the next evening after having a great experience. Not so great the second time around. They messed up our order, nearly making one of us sick. My husband has a dairy allergy. They put dairy in his dish and ran out to try and catch him before he ate anything. But he had already eaten some of it. Then, as we were trying to get the check, their computer system went down. We waited for an extra half hour after our meal before we could leave. They did try to accommodate us by offering a free drink but still....30 minutes was kind of annoying.
Overall good experience. Have lived in Alpine for years and never stopped in. Their online menu caught my eye so I stopped after work on day. Online menu is way outdated. Current menu is region typical: a steak option, burger option, chicken thing, hummus, Cesar or house salads. Started my meal with the worst gin and tonic I've ever had in all my years. It was really tonic with a splash of gin. As a bonus, the tonic was flat, but the bartender didn't care. Speaks loudly for the bar. Might need to verify if the bartender knows what gin or tonic is, as they obviously don't know how to put them together. Ordered the ribeye, added asparagus, Cesar salad, glass of wine, dessert with port. Ribeye was an awful cut- thin, anemic. But the person that cooked it was masterful and turned it into something else: perfect edge crust/char, the melted fat, and the center was perfect as well. I saved the outer edge for last, like a savory treat. So good. Best I've had in the region. I haven't eaten so well in a long time. Came with blanched green beans, haricot verts for some sticklers. Again, perfect blanching. That's really, insanely, difficult to come by out here. The norm seems to be to cook beans until the life has left the building. And these were seasoned perfectly with a hint of salt. I was very delighted. Added asparagus. It was good. The broccoli Mac n cheese mentioned in the menu was just Mac n cheese. It was good, not over salted at all, which seems to be a norm out here. Over salting. I didn't even notice salt. Dessert was standard cheesecake. Only option. The crust was amazing, but I suspect it was from a box and not made in house. My servers recommended a nice wine to go with my meal as I was not familiar with any of them. The port with dessert blended well with the crust on the cheesecake. Over all a good experience. I feel if the hotel attempted to emphasize the restaurant, as the Gage hotel in marathon does theirs, then maybe things would pick up, or become even better. But I suppose it's easy money to hawk burgers, chicken stuff, hummus. Lower over head, less risk. Shame as there are clearly some talented folks in the kitchen just waiting to sing. A real cut of meat would be awesome. The online menu would probably be awesome variety here. Alpine is absolutely filled to the brim with burger restaurants that serve chicken things and salads on the side. I suspect that's the idea behind the century. Burger-chic. Last note: the music pumping in from the bar is cool if you're in the bar. If you're trying to promote the hotel or restaurant as a west texas themed, Trost designed, place then it's not. Consider blocking off or turning down the bar music or making it theme appropriate. It's not conducive to a nicer dining experience. Even Stanton House in El Paso with the bar at the restaurant doesn't have such obnoxious music so loud. Least I forget- my servers were awesome. Took the time to answer all my annoying questions and treated me graciously. Good stuff.
Enjoyed my meal at Century. I was in town without having any plans and they were able to get me a table relatively quickly. This was a Tuesday in early December, so I probably just came at the right time. Food and service were good.
The ambiance of the hotel and restaurant was beautiful for a first time visitor. The dinner we had was delicious and the visual presentation was on point. The only downside was the server. She may have had a bad night but everything was disappointing in that aspect. Thank you to the cook who took the empty plates off of our table to give us room.
The porkchops are delicious . The sides are well seasoned and not over cooked. Wife had the chicken fry which is quite large. It was our best meal of the trip.

Our waitress was polite and had a great attitude. My soda was flat. My mom’s steak fries came out towards the end of our meal, and there was a hair on them. Vegan bowl was delicious, but its $18 for 8oz of beans and 4 cuts of broccoli. Rice would complement the delicious chili sauce. All in all a friendly staff.
Decent place charging prices equivalent to the historic, high-end restaurant a town over (12 Gage) without being anywhere near as good. Paid $8 for “chocolate mousse” that wasn’t anything but grocery store shelf instant chocolate pudding. Food would’ve been great for 20% lower price, mediocre at best for the menu prices. We’ll come back for the smash burger though!
We ordered our food to go and waited about 1.5 hours before it was ready (burger and salmon) and when we received the order the salmon was cooked improperly. The bar staff was very helpful and offered a free drink for the inconvenience. The food was delicious but the kitchen needs improvement
Very sweet staff! We showed up an hour before close during Spring Break and the restaurant was packed. However, they were able to accommodate us at the bar and we were able to order food. Food is very overpriced, but may be typical for such an isolated area.

I ordered the ravioli small plate. Half were hot, and the other half were right at warm, touching cold. I also had the Caesar salad. The dressing tasted really off and was completely unappetizing. So I did not eat the salad. The service was on par with the food. Our booth was visited at the beginning to take our order, and we didn't see anyone until we were obviously done. Overall, I will not be returning now do I recommend this restaurant.
I had the shrimp and grits and I enjoyed that. My wife had the fish and chips, and she didn't enjoy that. She said it was bland tasting. We're back home now and I tried her carry out, it was bland. I also didn't like the price of a ribeye on menu. A ribeye was something like $49 and there was no size or grade on the menu. For all I knew it might have been a tough long horn steak. But come time to pay and the credit card machine went down, so I had to come up with cash or leave my wife to wash dishes. Now it would have been a fun thought, but it would have been a bad night.
Took family for a visit. Food was mediocre at best. Definitely not worth the money paid. Kids menu burger starts at 9 dollars we added bacon and cheese to this 1/4lb burger and it ended up being $15.00, which was $3 for a slice of American cheese, and $3 for the bacon. Same overall cost as their 2/3lb or 10oz signature burger. I brought it up to our waitress, and all that was said is " yeah, i think thats high too". Overall, was not at all impressed, definitely will not go out of my way to go back. I gave the extra star because the bar has a decent whiskey, and beer selection.
Absolutely the worst hotel bar I’ve ever been to, the cocktails were terrible and they were out of half the menu. We didn’t even finish them they were so bad…. Normally my boyfriend will finish anything and even he didn’t want the rest of mine. The bartender was slammed, they needed to staff at least one other person. Super overpriced for what it was, came out to almost $20 per person for one drink each. Came here for my birthday when we were on a road trip and were definitely disappointed! Left after the first drink to cut our losses.
While the atmosphere is for fine dinning nothing else is. I don't live in alpine, I don't recommend for anyone traveling through. We are definitely never going back. We felt very uncomfortable and unwelcomed as we tried to get seated. The hostess was not there, and we went to bar just to be ushered back to stand to wait for another 5 minutes for the hostess. We wanted to go to la casita but it was unfortunately closed we had to come to here due to our children being very hungry... Prices are ridiculous high for an odd taste. The service was by far the worse experience. We were sat right next to the cooks when our waitress showed up she was friendly and she started by pouring water, she gave my 3 1/2 a cup of water with no lid. She ofcourse spilled it. We had to had to clean it up and we did not receive any new napkins. That water was disgusting, like drinking out of the lake. She then asked if we wanted to drink something, she asked me and my kids and ignored my husband. Good note that pina colada was very well made. It was puerto rican style and as a puerto rican I can agree it was a great balance of flavor. Then she took our menus when they got wet which left us scrambling to remember what we chose. I got the fried fish, and my husband got the chicken fried steak. I was half way done with my drink, when my husband finally got to order a beer. He got a shiner and his beer was cold but sour. I finished my drink before the food was delivered. Our food made it to our table, my husband's meal was drowned in gravy, while my fish had minimum seasonings. They called my waitress for my missing tartar sauce... the whole meal I had to eat with one of the cooks staring me down. It was very uncomfortable. Another waitress asked if we needed something and thank God because I needed something to drink. She quickly brought me another drink. Then our waitress came by and checked on us. We did order the creme Brule, which was good taste but not what i was expecting. Little more cold pudding than custard. We paid and left.
It's a shame to have to give this place such a low rating really, I've eaten here before and it was good but the experience we had at Sunday brunch was terrible. My daughter's burger, ordered medium, was cooked until it was crunchy. My wife and son ordered the steak and eggs, steak medium rare, and both came out medium well. Our boy, being a seventeen year old that eats anything and everything, ate his steak but my wife asked for another. The second steak came out just as bad as the first. It was at this point that our server, who had been very attentive, disappeared. I think she knew how bad the food was and didn't know how to handle it. My wife spoke with a manager who, instead of removing the inedible meals from our ticket, offered a paltry 20 percent discount on those three plates. We never again saw our waitress and finally had to ask for our ticket so we could pay and leave.
Ok, so the bar is solid, no doubt. But, I'm staying at the hotel as a guest, and I decide to try the restaurant. I order an app and main course. At least 30 minutes pass and nothing I have to ask the bartender and she returns to say that the chef got me "mixed up with another table." Had I not asked who knows how long i would have waited. I actually felt bad for her having to give me a BS excuse. This is not fine dining, I walked across the street to the little Italian joint, their food is great and their service is miles ahead.
The hostess was very rude and said she wasn't seating anyone in the dining room anymore. She said we could eat in the bar, but we had a party of 4 and couldn't sit together. Felt very unwelcome we went to Old Gringos instead felt a lot more welcome there.
If you want to a seat at the bar good luck. The staff has that covered. The hostess is never around even while sitting in front of you on her phone. Make sure you request the cook doesn’t use his vape while making your meal!
