Excellent Peking duck here! The people were lovely and enjoyed the atmosphere. Can't wait to come back!
Best Chinese restaurant in Kansas City! Food is amazing and the owners are very kind. We found our new spot. 🤤
Great flavors! Perfect lunch sizes, egg roll, soup.. outstanding!!! The spicy peanut pork.. ahhhh-mazing! Great bit of sause, and perfect flavor hits. Egg roll was very tasty. Burnt my tounge on it cause I would not let it sit long enough to cool. (Not sorry.. worth it) The atmosphere is on point. Dim, beautiful music.. and staff is sooo nice! Very worth the trip to this side of town!
Great food, large portions, outstanding service, nice atmosphere. When people in the parking lot stop you, telling you all the best things to order, it says a lot about the restaurant. We had a lovely meal.
Great Chinese cuisine with a friendly helpful staff. The duck looked incredible.
Probably my favorite chinese restaurant in the area. Amazing flavors, large portions, friendly staff, and speedy takeout. Our favorite thing is the Crispy Sesame Chicken, but the General Tso Chicken is great too. Everything else I have had has also been amazing! I have been here many times and love to bring friends from out of town to try it! They also have a fun cocktail menu.
Love, love, love this place and highly recommend it. They greeted us warmly as soon as we walked in. The service was attentive, atmosphere is lovely, and food is the best Chinese I've ever had. I overheard our server repeat a regular's order by memory, that's the level of personal service you get there. All the dishes we ordered were perfect, included the Chinese duck with brown sauce - get the pancakes with it - as well as crispy lamb, crispy beef, and the best crab rangoons we've ever had. We live far away but will visit Princess Garden every time we're in KC now, can't wait to try more dishes!
Thanks to a friend inviting me to eat here I love the pork belly and tofu and vegetables
Been eating at Princess Garden since it opened in 1972. Special celebration meals are held there too. It is THE BEST Chinese food in Kansas City! The wait staff, all family members who always remember you , call you by name, and treat you like family. I’ve never had a bad meal, never. Don’t miss this treasure.
Our first visit. We had intended on going ever since I saw a story about it on the local news over a year ago. We love learning about successful locally family owned establishments and this one stands out. 53 years in the same family, where have I been? It was everything we had anticipated and more. Out waitress was very helpful in making menu choices, several people served our needs at the table. We did the family style between the 5 of us and it was so good! The beef and veggies were the best I've ever had, and all the entrees, which were spread out all over the table, were excellent, esp on top of the fried rice and noodles. We will return soon, lots of catching up to do!
Consistently amazing food, always great friendly service. Long time local restaurant. Delicious dishes, will make just how you like.
I should have come out here many years ago to give Princess Garden a five-star rating. My family always orders the hunan chicken, fried rice, and hot & sour soup along with egg noodles. I have never tasted hunan chicken and hot & sour soup like their's and have given up on other Chinese restaurants. I am so sad to hear the owners are closing/retiring, at the end of this year, but also happy for them as it is well deserved. Where will I satisfy my cravings, though? You will be missed!
Absolutely love this restaurant. The owners are so kind and pleasant and so willing to wait on you. The food is outstanding. We hate to see them close.
This is the type of Chinese restaurant that you don’t see often, in my opinion. It still has the ambiance, the feel, and decor of a Chinese restaurant. You can tell this place has been around for a long time… in a good way! The staff were great. The food was delicious. They have plenty of tasty options. Though we didn’t get a drink, their drink selection looked fun and unique. Definitely a place I would recommend for a group wanting to try new things. Even though the menu isn’t communal style, it definitely could be!
This is the premier Chinese restaurant in Kansas City. No where, in the city or country have, I had Chinese food like this.
Been here twice now and both times the food and service have been amazing! Got the Peking duck carved table side as well as the crispy beef. Would highly recommend both. Will definitely be back soon.
Good Chinese American spot! We got the more meat heavy dishes like crispy beef, Hunan chicken, and some fried pork dumplings. Delicious and our leftovers were too. Went here as a kid and recently returned. Their menu has stayed the same and it is very consistently good. Family owned and they are always so kind to us!
Had lunch with a coworker and we shared some sesame chicken and egg rolls. The sesame chicken was sweet and simple and the egg rolls were big and crisp. The person serving us was polite and moved things along without any rush. The place felt casually comfortable and not too busy. Everything came out hot and ready to go. I would go back when I want a casual lunch without a fuss.
I started with the crab rangoon and peking duck carved tableside. the creaminess of the crab filling was excellent and the duck was tender with that classic crispy skin. the tableside carving added a special touch to the whole experience. the friendly staff and warm atmosphere made it feel like a real tradition. portions were generous, perfect even for sharing. i’ll definitely be back with family for those dishes again.
Peking duck is absolutely yummy. Only thing I'll ever eat here again.
Really enjoyed this hidden gem of a place. I’ve lived in the KC metro area my entire life and have never been here until recently. The staff is friendly and the place just has that very authentic feel to it. Lunch portions are HUGE and not a bad deal at all for $12. I got the spicy triple delight with egg drop soup and an egg roll. Flavor was great on everything. And the food came out hot and fresh.
Nice, festive-looking Chinese restaurant with great food and service. The sesame beef(pictured) may make you tear up.
What a gem 🥰 I tried 4 (!) different preparations of duck last night at Princess Gardens on 89th & Wornall (near absolutely nothing else), and we had a excellent dinner. The Peking Duck is their crowning glory and it was delicious. Sam carves up duck like he does it 50x/week because he does! Sue led us to this dish, insisting we would miss out on the true possibilities of duck without it and she was right. Housemade Mandarin pancakes and plum sauce paired with cracklin duck skin put it over the edge. The crispy orange duck might have been tied for my favorite though! Fried duck bites (like really savory fried chicken - think confit then fried), tossed with veggies and an awesome spiced orange sauce. I'd go back just for this. We also tried spiced duck and roast duck. All kinds of veggies tossed in, but we wanted to try the spiced green beans too. Oh and because we were very hungry when we sat down, we got 2 orders of crab rangoon (for 7 of us) and DEMOLISHED them. So creamy and satisfying. The food was great. The decor is charming (if showing a little wear). But the staff made the experience. We had attentive and hilarious service and I hope to go back again to try other dishes from their 11-page menu!
Singapore noodles will revitalize your love for flavor. Black bean 🫘 chicken will give you the hug that never came from your favorite aunt. Beef flat noodles will make you wish you lived in Mongolia and fished for the elusive Taimen with a fly rod each day. Eggrolls are just flat bitchin’ delicious and crab 🦀 Rangoon are made with real crab, scallions and cream cheese…go figure. The owners are so friendly you feel like they actually want you to know the essence of happiness that only exists if you genuinely put passion into your work and care about your product and have standards that eclipse the mundane confines of most peer review. Five stars is a paltry way to acknowledge what they have done for food and families in their area!

I have know Princess Garden since I was in high-school. The integrity and quality of the food has remained unchanged. It's the most authentic Asian food in KC. I'm a vegan but my family isn't and we all have an incredible time when we go there. The decor is delightful and the service feels like family. My last experience, my server told me about a vegetable they have on special. Ong Choy also know as water Spinach, was served in a savory garlic sauce and was fantastic 👌. I'll be a patron for years to come.

Super impressed!! I got the sweet and sour shrimp and was surprised by all the shrimp I got!! Also got the crunchy beef and crab Rangoon. Great portions and food was tasty. The service was awesome too.
This is my favorite Chinese restaurant in KC! I have a lot of pros and zero cons: - The owners/staff are always so kind and welcoming - We have tried new dishes each time and the food is always incredible - Prices are reasonable and you get a lot of food, enough for a second meal at home in my experience - Drinks are delicious and there is a wide variety - The atmosphere is peaceful and the lighting is not too bright or too dim - The art/decor is beautiful and I love admiring it when I go
I've lived in Boone Hills for 6 years. Princess Garden has always been a go, whether doing take out or dining in with friends/family. The food is always delicious and the staff (family owned) is always accommodating. Always leaving the belly and the heart full!
Best Chinese-American food in the metro. They have some authentic Chinese dishes as well. Their mapo tofu is amazing (it has pork, though, if you are vegan). The decor reminds me of the classic Chinese restaurants of my childhood. We eat there at least once a month, often more.
Princess Garden is the best! The food is so yummy, I recommend the Egg Foo Young. The service is great and staff are so friendly, they make you feel right at home! Great value too!
I am back in town for the holidays and SO glad to find Princess Garden was still open. It never fails to impress, and is well worth the drive from anywhere you may in Knsas City. The food is delicious and served in an "old timey" American Chinese restaurant vibe. My family ordered what we thought was way too much food and finished nearly all of it -- at a wonderful price, too. The Mapo Tofu was perfectly presented and generously portioned. Kung Pao Chicken is a lifetime favorite of mine; brings back childhood memories. I suggest both of these AND anything else that sounds intruiging. It's all good.
I ordered the spicy triple delight with fried rice and egg roll. The meal started with spicy soup, which was among the best I have had. Next was the egg roll; came out perfectly crisp and hot, once again among the best I have had. The entree was generous in size, and perfectly spiced, once again among the best I have had. Will definitely be back, highly recommend this place!

The food is delicious! I drive about 3 hours just to eat here. Everything is made fresh including every sauce they serve except Soy Sauce. This restaurant has been open since at least 1982 , so the building is old but very clean and the waitress are attentive and eager to please. Authentic Chinese food that is absolutely delicious! Highly recommended this restaurant.
This place is an "oldy but goody" in Kansas City. My husband and I ordered take out from here but the inside of the restaurant is something special and we've eaten inside previously. While the inside of the restaurant is unique the parking lot can be tricky to navigate when they're busy. We ordered Shrimp Fried Rice 🍚 (spicy), Combination Fried Rice and Crab 🦀 Rangoon. All dishes were tasty. You get a nice value for your money as well. The service was a bit slow but they do make it fresh so I'll take that over quick old or cold food. We'll definitely have to make it a point to visit a couple more times prior to them closing in 2024 for good. That makes me sad because they've been in the same spot for decades but I suppose change is inevitable. I will say it can be tough when they're closed three days a week. Many a day I've forgotten that and called to place an order only to realize they're closed. 😐😟 If you catch them during their operating hours than I definitely hope you enjoy!
I hadn't been here in years, but recently returned to have dinner with some friends. Overall, it was a pleasant experience. The Hunan beef was my favorite, but I also enjoyed the shrimp spectacular. However, the chicken with vegetables was not at all flavorful.
This, by far, is some of the best food we call Chinese cuisine I've ever tasted. Do they havel food like chicken feet, or pigs elbow or some of the food I've tried over the years? No. But they know their audience and cater perfectly to them. From the crispness of the egg rolls to the spicy Sichuan chicken, everything was well made. I'm saddened to hear they will close in 2024, but every time I visit Kansas, this is my go-to.

Im not sure if they changed their recipes or something but it just doesn't taste as good as it used to. The egg rolls are way smaller than they used to be and that makes me really sad because I totally consider them the best egg rolls ever. The staff is so sweet and has always been so kind, I'm just really sad the recipe is now different and the food doesn't taste as good anymore :(
Their Peking duck offering and friendly customer service sets this restaurant apart. But don’t expect the type of sliced duck that you’d get in Beijing. The rest of the food is salty and doesn’t surpass other Chinese restaurants in Overland Park, KS; so I’d eat here again if other people insist.

The place was beautiful but that was the only good thing. We went because my friend saw a review online saying it was a good place. We were sadly disappointed. NOTHING had spice or seasoning. I ordered mandarin chicken noodles but got lo mean noodles. Even it's was in the specialty menu. My friend order chow mein and couldn't make it. They also gave him lo mein, they used linguine noodles. They bolied and tossed in oil before they served it. No spice. We ordered the spicy orange chicken asked for it to be spicier then it said it was on the menu and the only spice was orange peel and ginger. No heat what so ever. The veggie spring roll was an egg roll stuffed with cabbage. Not a spring roll. We don't mind paying $$ for good Chinese food but this was not. I don't know if it's because the customers were mostly senior citizens, but this was bad. We were asked 5 different times how the food was or if it was good. Which shoes us they know their food isn't good.
Went last year for Christmas Day, was pretty good. Husband and I split one of the two person meals. It was pretty good all around, a little pricy but worth it because it’s was Christmas. Came back this year and we were really excited to try the duck they have on their menu, so we ordered half a duck and we ordered the meal for two as well. To say we were disappointed is an understatement. The only thing that was alright was the egg drop soup, and maybe the shrimp. The pork was dry, the duck SO dry, we couldn’t even take meat off the bone because it was shriveled up. And the egg rolls didn’t even contain egg… so disappointing compared to last year. Will not be coming back

1. No menu offered- The waitress didn't even give us a menu, then looked at us sideways when we asked for one- attitude. We've been there before, but she barely gave us any time to look at the menu before asking us what we wanted. The waitress didn't seem to mind giving any other customers a menu... 2. Disgusting Sweet and sour chicken- you can't get more basic than that. It was a new take on it, I can say that. They clearly use store bought sauce, and just let the pineapple and carrots stew in the sauce all day, or however many days it sat. And the chicken was like Chick-Fila nuggets. Gross! 3. Overcharged bill by almost $8!- I get that inflation has hit everyone hard, but why over bill your customers, esp the regulars? Red flag on the play. No excuse, the waitress has been working there for YEARS and clearly knew what she was doing. My poor elderly father was too nice to speak up and just paid. 4. No receipt- again, more attitude when we asked for a receipt, and she never brought it. We had to ask the host as we left. Seriously, can it get any worse? Madam waitress: it's time to retire from waiting tables since you clearly hate doing it. Princess Garden: Do better. I am utterly disgusted by that waitress's behavior. Zero stars for service. Shame on you for allowing this poor quality of service, food and behavior. To all: look at your check BEFORE you pay!
Went there for dinner with my hubby and when the bill came they upcharged us on every single item for no reason (we did not ask for extras or changes to any of the dishes, just standard from the menu). They charged $4 extra for our soup, $2 for our drinks and $6 more for our other dishes! They were hoping we wouldn't notice, it's very shady behavior and we will not be going back. Reading some of their past reviews, it looks like they have done this to others as well so clearly it was not a one off. Extremely disgraceful of them, we have never experienced anything like this before. We were going to go there for our group of 14 family reunion dinner in two weeks but we will be going elsewhere instead. They have lost us as customers forever.
I have been going here 50 years. It was my favorite place. But last nights food was awful. The food was not as good as it once was. Maybe because they are closing they don't care about the quality of their soup or their dishes. It's sad. A restaurant of the the past I suppose.
We wanted to like this spot based on reviews... But it ranks as one of the worst restaurants we've eaten at in relation to its reputation. The service was friendly, prompt and very nice. That's the sole positive. The restaurant is dirty in a way that is hard to describe. Food stains on the walls at our booth, carpet dilapidated, etc. The smell when arriving should have been a clue to turn back around and leave. Have they ever cleaned this restaurant?? The food was what you'd expect from a late night 3am food truck - no flavor, sloppy presentation and we finally just took it to go and threw the food away. That's about as bad it gets.
Wow read some reviews before going regarding how they charge you more… and was actually shocked how true that was. how rude and absolutely zero manners from the workers.. food was great but when we walked in asked for a table for 2 one lady said 15 minutes and a guy came in said 45 minutes then lady walked by and said no you’ll be in 15 minutes… great! the guy looked at us said “Go have sit while waiting” I was like where? when there were no seats available in the waiting area. Got to our table. apps were great.. we ordered the orange chicken and the beef noodles. Our server brought what it looked like the beef dish me and my gf were on our second bite our forks were literally in the plate getting a bite she comes up and takes the dish without saying a single word not an excuse me not any explanation literally nothing we’re like WTH she came back and we asked what happened she said oh that was the wrong dish absolutely unreal. Anyways she brought our tab at the end which was $100 and you have to pay upfront.. we were checking out and I got a charge for $49 and he said oh sorry I made a mistake no problem then he charges the card for $935 and I got a notification on my phone I was like WTH is going on you’ve charged me a grand and he started to argue with me that he didn’t I showed him the notification on my phone and he said oh I’ll return money. And I literally had to talk to him for 5 minutes just to give me the receipts. I attached both pictures. I understand food is good but part of the reason you go to a restaurant is the service also which was the worst experience I’ve ever had. If you’re wanting to eat the food do yourself a favor and order to go.. TERRIBLE SERVICE

I called in an order for General Tso’s chicken, egg drop soup, and crab rangoon. To my surprise, my bill came out to $32.02. They did give me 6 crab rangoon instead of the one I anticipated coming with the meal, but that still doesn’t add up. Per the posted prices, the entree, egg drop soup, and order of 6 crab rangoon should’ve been $24.95 plus tax. I asked to confirm that was the right price for what I ordered and they said it was. Upon reading past reviews, this has happened to multiple other people. I’ll be sticking to other Chinese restaurants that accept orders online to avoid this.
Ordered 3 dinners to go. Basic stuff and honestly not very good at all. Not sure we were given what we ordered. Couldn't tell the difference between the Sweet and Sour and General Joe's chicken in the containers. Both were bland with absolutely no flavor. I can get better Chinese food at Hy-Vee. People were nice but we won't be back.
