Opinions de El Barrio Cantina Anaheim
10/10 across the board, the food was great, the drinks were better. Plus all the bartenders and servers were very attentive. Big or small party, I’d recommend this spot
So I just recently went to El Barrio Cantina for a wonderful and special Yelp event. I enjoyed the food and the ambiance so much that I went the next day with my husband. I knew he would enjoy this place, and I was 100% correct! He’s already planning for our next visit, lol. I enjoyed all of the food that I had during the Yelp event, so I decided to get pretty much everything that I had that night. I wanted to share my experience with my husband. We were able to make a same-day reservation for that night. The last time I came, parking was a bit of a headache. However, this time around, we were able to find parking right away in their tiny lot across the street. Whoo-hoo! My hubby was already happy. When we entered, we were greeted by the GM, Jennifer. She sat us right away in a nice cozy booth. Our waitress (so sorry, I forgot her name) was the only waitress working the floor because they were short-staffed. She gave us the heads up, and she still was quick, and we never had to wait around for her. We started off ordering drinks and an appetizer, the Uno Mas , the La Chica Fresa, and the Taquitos de Papa . My hubby loved it all so far, his eyes just lit up. Haha.. Next, we ordered: Camarón Marinero (shrimp ceviche), El Peruano (Peruvian style ceviche with red snapper), and the Mexican Fried Hot Chicken. The Mexican hot fried chicken was a bit spicier than I remembered, but nonetheless, it was still excellent. Again, hubby was blown away! After we stuffed our faces, I had to get dessert! If you read some of my other restaurant reviews, I always have to get dessert after dinner. I order the Panna Cotta Flan. My husband actually wanted one for himself, we usually share, but he wanted his own, which was odd because he’s not really a dessert person. I asked him why, and he said since everything else was terrific, be believed, so will the flan. Trust me when I tell you that he was obsessed with that flan! He literally indulged in every single bite. I, too, really like the flan; it’s not like the traditional flan. This one was more refreshing and light. Lastly, we ordered two more drinks, Flowers for Benny and J +J Paloma. Both were good! We had a really lovely evening. My husband wants to come back, and he’s already told his friend that he wants to hang out here and said it’s going to be our new little spot. I look forward to exploring more of their menu. I stuck to what I had at the Yelp event, so I’m curious to see how the other dishes are. We might go back today! Haha…Thank you, El Barrio Cantina! I will see you very soon.
What an awesome find! We loved the vibe, decor, cool mural and the FOOD! My margarita was sooo good and a generous pour in all aspects. The potato tacos and marg happy hour set a great deal! The ribs and elote (corn) dish were beautifully presented and sooo yummy! We will be back when travelling through. Gracias!
This place is so nice and the host was very nice and friendly. Went there 2 times in 2 weeks. The drinks were great as well. The oysters were a delight and the papa tacos ,yum. Going back soon!
Amazing food great drinks and excellent service definitely recommend it long beach spot for sure to be at
Ive been to mexican cuisine but this was more authentic, great flavor on all the plates we ordered
They have a large spacious atmosphere. Kind of cool. The drinks are very good. Unfortunately I didn't have anything to eat there we just had chips and salsa and cocktails-fresh traditional margaritas. Also known as skinny margaritas.
Everything was so good! We will definitely be coming back for date night and happy hour!
This place has a really good vibe walking in. We came just as they opened. The food was amazing. Had the loaded fries and street tacos. All really fresh. Was the guinea pig for the homemade orange soda and that was really good as well. Recommend the churro donut. It does have nuts in the scoop of ice cream so be careful people with nut allergies. Service was a bit slow at times but I think at that point it was a one person show. Overall definitely do not pass this place up.
After 2 visits I can confirm that the flavors of this place are beautifully crafted and well worth the visit. This is the type of place you want to bring your parents to. I sat at the bar both times and thoroughly enjoyed both bartenders I sat with. One shared his worldly experience, one shared her passion for beauty in food/drinks, and both enhanced our experience! Bring a date; bring your parents; bring a friend! There's something for everyone here
Great vibe and amazing food at a fair price. Interesting and unusual twists to some mexican classics. I'll definitely come again.
Stopped here for a beer and some tacos. Well, when I saw pulpo on the menu- had to try it! It was so delicious- served with potatoes and a chimichuri sauce. The place was not busy at all for lunch - not sure about the dinner crowd. Will definitely return
This one is a bit of a diamond in the desert. Mainly because it's so difficult to get to. The area is local making it tough to find parking. But the food is amazing. Amazing. Cool paintings.
One of the best brunch experiences I've had. The food set a new standard of what I know is possible for breakfast. I will make El Barrio Cantina a regular stop next time I am in LA.
Amazing place, everything was so good, the food, the music, the drinks, everything very delicious and filling, the vibe awesome, and very attentive servers 💯💯 Best restaurant in Long Beach
Stopped by for quick drinks. I had a wonderful time and the inside is so beautiful. The bartenders were so helpful and were able to check the drinks for what was safe for me.
Found this place close to our AirBNB, and I'm SO glad we stopped by! We ordered street tacos, tostadas, and quesadillas. Our favorites were the street tacos-- the corn tortillas were excellent! Also got some tasty cocktails! Their Recession Menu (Happy Hour) had lots of great specials!

I had my birthday dinner here last night and it was amazing!! We ordered the chile mango margarita pitcher for the table and I love that it was served in a beverage dispenser with a spout rather than having to fight ice to get the drink into a glass. The potato tacos were SO good, we got two orders for appetizers, the aquachile shrimp & then a round of tacos (the cauliflower esquite, carnitas, barria & carne asana) and every dish was mega tasty! It blows the other Mexican restaurant up the street on 4th out of the water. The service was great, she recommended many dishes & allowed us to take our time ordering & brought out a dessert with a candle for my birthday! I definitely will be coming back to try some other dishes on the menu
The margaritas from El Barrio Cantina are absolutely amazing! We also had the fajitas and birria lasaña which were both very delicious as well. Also highly recommend the flan for dessert, the texture and flavor were great. The servers were very attentive and friendly and the restaurant is beautifully decorated. Highly recommend!
We ordered our favorites to take home for dinner— taquitos de papa, hamachi collar, and ceviche de pescado. They were fabulous as always! We tried some new items too — pork chile verde and 4th Retro fish sushi roll—we’ve now added those to our list of favorites! All items were packaged well with sauces, cheeses, beans, etc,., and food was hot when we got home. We’re looking forward to the leftovers tomorrow! I was happy to see that El Barrio Cantina was supporting the important work of ÓRALE on this National Day of Action, donating proceeds from margaritas sold. That made me like the restaurant even more!
Pros: Great daily happy hour with a nice selection of draft beer. The small parking lot across the street looks like it's for an apartment complex but the wall is labeled. You can exit thru the back. Cons: $4 for a scoop of guac. Most of the HH food menu was pricey too: $9 for 2 potato balls.

Awesome food and ambience. However, they were unable to make any accommodations or edits to any items (could not add veggies and stuff, even if you paid extra) (can’t get fajitas without ordering ribs, with a side of fajitas. If you want just fajitas have to order ribs that comes with itt and still pay 40$ for full price even if you choose to do that but without the ribs)
We tried this place few days ago with group of friends. For Tapas, their sizes were bigger than expected. Lani was our server and he was amazing! We ordered spicy margarita which wasn't on the menu, but they made perfect glasses for us. Food was mostly really good. Squash pasta was fresh, soft, tasty, and Zucchini was super fresh. Cauliflower was really good. Chiviche was fresh and tasty. Small short rib was of very decent size. It was tender and soft. I didn't like the fact that the tortillas that came with the short rib were super oily. Fat from the meat would have done it and the condiments that came with it also had enough fat. Potato tacos were ok. They were deep fried which I didn't like, also potato filling was very less. We also didn't care for cream cheese empanadas, it was pretty bland. Chimichuri that came with empanadas was really good. I'm dairy sensitive so I only took a bite of it, but my husband had it all and he also experienced some discomfort in his tummy. Spicy chicken wings was not that great either. You can taste the hint of spice, but it was bland. We had more food and they were all great besides the ones mentioned here for my personal taste. Overall experience was great.
The atmosphere at night is really nice. I liked the lights and crowd. It is probably more like a nice bar than a dine in restaurant. The food is tapas style and go well with drinks. Get the horchata with a shot of rum - great combo! I was expecting more as far as the food. Everything was good but not mind blowing. All the food I had was a 7 out of 10 to me with just several aspects holding it back. The octopus was a bit salty. The hamachi collar was a bit dry. The chile relleno didn’t have the crispy + gooey contrast that most people would usually expect from a really good relleno. Keep in mind you’re paying about $15 - $20 per dish which may lead you to expect a certain level of quality especially considering the price point doesn’t include any sides. As long as you don’t let that fact lead you into setting your expectations too high, you'll still be satisfied. Go here for the drinks and use the food as dishes to snack on with the drinks. Maybe get a small dinner beforehand or come here as round 2 when bar hopping. And again, don't forget the horchata with a shot of rum! You're going to have a good time.
We had the opportunity recently to go back to the El Barrio Cantina. The first time that we went it was a soft opening/party and we wanted to see how they have come along since then. We had the scallops, pork, and tacos. The prices are fair and the food is good. The atmosphere is bright and welcoming. The waitress we had was very welcoming. There is a parking lot across the street dedicated for the restaurant which is key since there is a lack of street parking.
Loved the Tacos de Papa! Was the perfect amount of crunch and flavor, considering potato tacos can be bland. We also ordered the Carne Asada Beef Rib (small) and it was huge for 2 people. Meat was tender and tortillas were fresh. Was a bit on the pricey side, but overall worth it for the amount of Tapas. I got the ELbc margarita and my boyfriend ordered the special Manzanita. They were just ok.
Authentic Mexican food. Fun place to eat. I had a Margarita with 🦐 Marinera Ceviche. Muchos Bueno.
Couldn't tell if they were open and it wasn't very busy. The menu was unique and takes a little getting used to. But the food was really good. Its quite a twist on Mexican food. Chips and salsa are not complimentary.
The atmosphere was amazing. Their decor and music was top notch. Its great being able to have an upscale Mexican food experience. By far, their best thing are the drinks. We were a group of 4 and got 2 round of drinks. The flowers for bunny was the best and most recommended. The food was good. Definitely an upscale experience, so expect to have tasters and order appetizers to fill you up. All of the food was flavorfull and very cantina style. Expect tacos, appetizers, drinks, and mezze over it all. Don't be afraid to share. The only thing was they had a busy night. The only downside, a large party of like 15+ people came in, so at no fault of their own, on a busy Friday, things were a little slower in terms of service. But honestly, it was just a great opportunity to get more drinks in 🙈. Fun experience overall and I was pleasantly surprised.
Visited El Barrio Cantina on a Wednesday night and happy to see that they have a pretty full house of customers. We were pleasantly surprised they were offering dineLA menu, which turned out to be a great way to sample their menu. The meal came with a margarita, taquitos, choice of proteins, and we picked the steak and carnitas, and finally ended with desserts. The margaritas are a little different than your typical cocktail, since it has a little bit of carbonation in the drink. But the flavor is good. Best part of the meal is the taquitos. It's flavorful and crispy. Unfortunately the proteins are a little bit of a miss. The steak was a little bland and the pork was a bit too dry. The pork is better between the 2. The pudding like cheese dessert came out a bit frozen, which is a pet peeve of mine, but the churro return ice cream is amazing! It's a must have.
A small but quaint speakeasy with fabulous drinks and food. The music was average…sometimes we’d be listening to some upbeat EDM vibe music and then all of sudden you’d hear hard core metal which wasn’t keeping with the theme. Service was decent but they were slow clearing plates and glassware. Plan extra time to find parking.
Very reasonably priced and located in the heart of Long Beach. Great service, good drinks, and a welcoming vibe. Definitely worth a stop!

Only ordered one carne asada taco. It was a $7 Taco. Also ordered $4 guacamole. The guacamole was in the smallest cup I've ever seen for $4. The food was good however definitely not going out of my way for this place and price.
Food was ok I thought until my wife said she was up all night with an upset stomach. A few other people in our group were also sick. Not sure about this place. They also blasted the dj while we were eating. Couldn't hear any conversation after that.
First off just know that their website is a work in progress. Our server had to let us know after we were seated. He also let us know about 10 times through our meal that he was new and didn't really know anything about the menu. They do NOT have an all day menu. They only offer a lunch happy hour menu until 5:30pm and then it's their dinner menu from 5:30pm on. The lunch happy hour offerings are minimal. We ordered tacos and cocktails as we planned to order from the dinner menu at 5:30pm. Worst tacos ever. Dry crumbly tortillas, dry meats, dehydrated nopales and no salsa on any of them. They also charge for chips and salsa. The salsa was super bland and had zero heat. Came to find out this salsa is served with everything on the menu. We were tempted to just leave after the tacos, but decided to stay and try some of the items from the actual dinner menu. The birria ramen was actually just a mediocre ramen with "birria flavored" chashu. The carnitas chile verde was actually just two chunks of carnitas with a drizzle of green sauce over black beans. Super disappointed with the entire experience especially after looking at the gallery photos on their website. Do not recommend.
We came here for a friend's birthday. The food was a nice fusion Mexican style. However, we got the wrong order and had to argue with waiter that this was not what we ordered. So not impressed with Service. I came here before for events which were great and well organized. Bar service at those events was friendly. Update: The staff is friendlier nowadays and they have a great Happy is great!

I’ve been here a few times now, and the food is consistently delicious. The servers—especially Marie—are incredibly kind and welcoming, which really stands out and keeps me coming back. That said, I’ve had mixed experiences at the bar. Some of the bartenders can come off a bit rude or not very accommodating, which is disappointing compared to how great the servers are.. I’ve also stopped in a couple of times just for a beer close to closing, around 11:20 PM, when people were still inside, but was told they were already closed—even though the posted hours suggested they should still be open... Either the hours need to be updated, or there needs to be clearer consistency. Overall, I’d definitely recommend going during happy hour if you want to sample a few things. And the Wednesday all-you-can-eat tacos for $25 is a solid deal—hard to pass up. 🌮🍻

We really wanted to like this place, but there were just too many things that needed improvement. For starters, there was a DJ blasting music so loud that nobody could hear each other trying to talk at our table. We all had to yell just to be heard over the DJ, which was super annoying. The food felt like it was just trying too hard to be fancy. Instead of chile relleno, they had “chile relleno stuffed with smoked marlin and beans”. It was just too many flavor clashing with each other in a tiny chile surrounded by a massive amount of sauce. Instead of empanadas, they had an “empanada with wagyu beef on top and crema”, which just means it had shredded beef and sour cream on top with beans stuffed inside one big empanada you couldn’t eat with your hands. The staff was was friendly, which was nice, but I don’t think we will come back.
This place got a lot of good reviews so we decided to try this place. The food is mediocre and the staff needs to improve their customer service skills. We order 4 appetizer but only received 3. The octopus came after with an entrée. The octopus was burned but according to them it was charred. I guess for them char means burn all the way leaving your tongue and fingers black. The picture on their website looked nothing like octopus we received. We got one entrée after another. Towards the end we had finished two entrees and the other two people in our table had not received their food yet. We asked why everyone else received their entrees at different times and their response was "different food takes different time to make" Duh of course they do that's why you start with the order that takes longer first and then what follows. The restaurant should know this and and still make it work where everyone gets their food around the same time. This restaurant could be good but they need to pay attention to details. Once we received the third entrée the fish was raw. We don't mind waiting for a good meal but when it comes out raw that's just unacceptable. Unfortunately I didn't take a picture since I let our waiter know right away. Our fourth person never got their food and we decided to leave. They seemed very bothered when we requested to have to some of the items removed. The supervisor was very rude and gave us attitude and as we were leaving she told us "good luck" If she can't handle a complaint she is in the wrong business and maybe she should stay away from helping customers.
TERRRIBLEE SERVICE! And I got food poisoning so yea. Drinks were alright. Waited 20mins just to be served and food took forever to get to us. Dont get the calamari though, go elsewhere
