Amazing food, beautiful place, very kind staff
An extraordinary dining experience for true food lovers. Vecchio Ristoro is not just a restaurant—it is a journey through flavor, craftsmanship, and time. Every dish is cooked from scratch using the freshest, highest-quality ingredients, with exceptional attention to detail and beautiful presentation. The chef’s cuisine is creative, refined, and full of character, delivering unique flavors that linger in your memory. Even the homemade bread deserves special praise. The service is flawless: attentive, knowledgeable, and delivered with genuine passion. The staff take the time to explain each dish and pairing, enhancing the overall experience. The atmosphere is rustic yet elegant, warm and inviting, with a charming old-world touch that perfectly complements the cuisine. This is a place where time slows down. Patience is essential, as each course is prepared with care—but the wait is absolutely worth it. A high-level culinary experience in Aosta that should be experienced at least once. We went to this beautiful restaurant based on its reputation and were not disappointed. The service was friendly and efficient and the food was beautifully prepared. We had the proximity tasting menu. It was excellent. We did not want to do full wine pairing but we were selected an excellent glass of orange wine for the first 2 courses and red for courses 3 and 4. We both loved the Bar BQ quail with fig ravioli whilst the beef fillet steak was also exquisite. Highly recommended
Had an outstanding evening with delicious food and impeccable service. Stand out dish was the risotto for me, but everything was very tasty! I had the vegetarian menu, my friend the 'normal' 5 course tasting menu and we shared a bottle of wine. The bill came to under €300 for the two of us which felt like amazing value given the quality of food. We left with full bellies and happy hearts. Would absolutely recommend to anyone visiting Aosta or the surrounding area!
Dining at this Michelin-starred restaurant was an absolute delight! The food was amazing, and the service was impeccable. I had the most delicious pasta of my life right here. 🍝 Also, the dessert was spectacular, super fresh and energizing.

Very classy and nice Interieur. Service is excellent, very polite and good English! We went for the seven courses with wine pairing. Food was absolutely perfect, one of the best Michelin experience I’ve ever had. (Very subjective of course) We really enjoyed the wine pairing, as the wines were a bit more unusual and quite an experience. We will certainly come back when we visit aosta again!
Extremely nice service, the food was great, but I ate in other gourmet restaurants with no Michelin star and the food was as good as here. I expected more flavours.Rabbit liver was not impressive at all. The wines are quite expensive. We payed 200 euros/person for a 7 course menu. I will give it a try again.
Fantastic restaurant, incredible food and very amicable staff. The chef comes several times to explain a plate (instead of coming at the end, when talking is often awkward). Don't wait, just go and enjoy.
We had the 7 course menu with the wine pairings. This was the best experience we had with michelin starred restaurants during our 3 week holidays in North Western Italy. Creative variations on Italian dishes using fresh local ingredients, leading to exceptional taste combinations, combined with very good wine pairings.
Amazing food! Already the amuse-bouche was mind blowing. Very good and kind service and the atmosphere is always very nice and cosy. Loved that the heafchef came to us and explained the menù.
I wouldn’t ever dreamed to find a place like this in Aosta. The host and the waiters were very kind and polite, regarding the food ..let’s say it in one word: Terrific. From the entree to the coffee (and side chocolates as well) it’s been amazing have a dinner there. Of course could be a little expensive but we’re talking about high premium restaurant.
Amazing food, really fresh, flavours very well balanced - put together in creative combinations, wine list excellent and recommendations on point! Service was impeccable and Paolo looked after us very well! Tables were extremely well spaced and Covid measures fully adhered to but not overbearing. Highly recommended to go for the 7 course tasting menu and let them take you on an unforgettable culinary experience! We left filled, contented and eager to return next time we are in Aosta!

By coincidence we dined at another 1-star Michelin restaurant 2 day’s previous in Piemonte before dining at Vecchio Ristoro. Sadly this one just wasn’t the same experience. The service was fine, sometimes friendly but mostly perfunctory. The food was good but not amazing for the tasting menu. The dessert was the best part. Some of the portions were pretentiously small for the “soup” and the risotto served on flat plates with maybe 3 tablespoons. We understand many course small portions philosophy…but this seemed extreme. The breads were tasty but do not need for every course. We don’t visit Aosta often but for 300euro+ we guess there are better food experiences available.
This is difficult. Generally I only post opinions on places I feel are excellent or even better - or truly dreadful. It could be that Vecchio Ristoro was having a bad day when we visited, but no Michelin-starred restaurant should ever have a really bad day, only degrees of excellence. A locked door with almost invisible signage greeted us, and entry required energetic ringing of the bell. Not a great start, and the service was simultaneously too intimate and overly formal. This was an atmospheric style that went out of fashion many years ago. Almost everywhere food is now meant to be fun, and dining a pleasure. We can't really remember what we ate. It must have been all right but it was certainly unmemorable, and hugely out of kilter with the gravitas of the hefty bill. All over the Aosta valley there are places serving good food in a happy atmosphere. That this restaurant has been awarded a Michelin star suggests it must have peaks as well as troughs...possibly we were simply unlucky.
The worst most expensive meal I ever ate. It gets one star because the service was OK. The filet fish was fish schnitzel and had fish bones, the carpaccio was smoked fish, the risoto was fried rice and the gnocchi was bad. The wine was extremely expensive and bad and 4 EUR for a bottle of water is excessive! Stay away.
