Opinions de Garden Cafe Arcadia
I love Hongkong cafe type of restaurant. I've been missing chicken steak since corner cafe in alhambra closed down. Since then I've been going to different Hongkong cafes to try chicken steaks. I always order the same stuff whenever I go to HK cafes. Like Hongkong Milk tea, porridge, and the chicken steak. We went here on Saturday noon and was managed to get parking right away at their parking lots. This restaurant is located across of Arcadia's KFC // Delicious food corner. The service is nice and the vibe is very homey.
One of the most amazing and diverse menus anywhere. The food was fantastic. The servers could have been more on top of things. They don't come around asking if you need a drink.
I've been going to Garden Cafe for almost 20 years at all 3 locations. I believe the Rowland Heights location just got remodeled and is now called Garden Bustro. Good food, fast service, great prices, and they're open late. Some of the menu items are different than most places so it's a great place for the adventurous foodie.
Pretty Authentic Hong Kong Western Style. Reasonable price with all the inflation going on. Especially, breakfast price. I personally prefer their lemon tea and Souffle. My honey B prefers the curry beef, tomato pork chop oven fire rice, and tomato soup vermicelli. Sometimes their chef special also surprises us. Service are friendly. Special like to Fa Jie and that young gentleman always so energetic and attentive. Of course, the rest of the team provides great service, too. Much better than the Alhambra location.
Authentic hong Kong style. The sauce they use for the baked pork chop rice is unbeatable. Best in LA. My daughter loves their German style pork knuckle. The red bean icee is rich and so perfect. With such big size of dishes, their prices are very good too.
I've come to eat here for over a decade and it's service has always been excellent. It's menu serves a wide selection and the food is always yummy. The environment is usually relaxed unless it's the weekend or on a holiday. The servers are very professional and are willing to redo an order if they mistake an order. If you're looking for a nice place to eat Chinese food for a reasonable price, this is my first choice.
Liked it very much. Great food, nice presentation, once ordered food was on our table very quickly. Servers were exceptionally nice as was the cashier. Highly recommend. Was quite busy . Parking lot was almost full even with plenty of parking slots.
Excellent food in a traditional Cantonese approach.
Let us dispense with the pleasantries: Love the food and the fast dispassionate service. Good to come in and have a good bite without the forced chit chat a normal restaurant would have. You get to eat your food in peace without any hassles, straight to the food with the minimal service.
Came here a lot during high school for late night group dinners after marching band competitions. They were conveniently open till very late at night, staff never really got mad at us staying over time (sometimes till 1 or 2 am), though I don't doubt that they got annoyed. Service was fantastic, because we always showed up with about 15+ people they would always put us in the large back room, and closed the doors so our loud teenager selves wouldn't bother the other patrons. One time several groups decided to eat here, and they ended up having the back room full of high school students till early morning. Food and drinks were always delicious, never disappointed.
I love their filet mignon and chicken steak plate! It comes with a lot of meat along with rice or pasta, veggies, & mashed potatoes! Its my most fave dish! It was my friends first time trying it and he loved it! This place has very tasty items. Id definitely recommend it. Try it at least once! You wont be disappointed.
Garden cafe never fails to be a solid Cantonese restaurant. With such a wide array of items on the menu, the different dishes we ordered all tasted amazing! We ordered the porridge with preserved egg and salted pork, sizzling Angus steak fried rice and tomato noodle soup with fish cakes and shrimp. The porridge always has great consistency, never too watery and always packed with enough flavor that makes you wanting more. The Angus steak fried rice was filled with strong black pepper flavor that gives it a little spicy kick and the tomato noodle soup is great for when you're feeling a little under the weather. All in all, service was good and staff was attentive to when we needed refills on our beverages. I will definitely be back soon!
Garden cafe definitely has a spot in my heart. I've grown up always coming here to eat with friends and family. Even people visiting from out of town! The food here is great a long with the style and taste of Hong Kong style dishes. However remember it is a chinese place so be aware of service at some points randomly become slow or a bit lacking cause the waiters are talking to locals. As long as you're patient with them you'll love eating here as much as I do.
Great Hong Kong style Cafe! Very good portion and pricing. Would kill for it if there's a branch in the east coast Every time I visit Arcadia, I come here. Everything is good but wished the 菠萝油 (pineapple cluster bun with butter) has a real slice of butter instead of just butter spread. Milk tea is bottomless! Which was AMAZING!
Best bang for the buck Canto-western restaurant in the area. Huge portions and reasonably priced. We ordered the pork knuckles and steak over fried rice. Both delicious. Will definitely come back.
Love this restaurant with HK style food. The servers are great and offer to refill the drinks in a to go cup when you leave and it's not too loud. Granted this is not too loud for a Canto restaurant which means its fairly lively. Gramps also approves of the food, service, and atmosphere.
A good friend took me to this busy establishment, and I was pleasantly surprised. As I said, the restaurant was busy but the staff all contributed to the experience of great service. The reason we dine out is for great food and this menu is expansive. My meal was prepared expertly and the portion was very generous. Can't wait to try the variety of dishes and I will be back.
Great choices and great food. The staff is super friendly. Little tip, when you order the fillet mignon or steak ask for medium well if you want medium.
Get the souffle. I miss when Garden would stay open until 3 or so in the morning. Great after concerts, Dodger Games and special events. After covid...everything changed.
My favourite Hong Kong-style Western restaurant—I've been a loyal customer for 20 years. The food and service are just as excellent as ever.
Phenomenal menu with a ton of varieties in true Hong Kong style. Food is solid and staff is friendly.
Good Hong Kong style food. Big portions and affordable prices.
consistent, filling, and good price. quick service. always meets expectations. love the massive selection of food
A long time favorite of my parents and now me. No menu here sucks, all of them delicious in their own ways. The fried rice was wonderful and has that wok flavor and smoky taste. The chow fun was also very delicious, both being carbs not having an overwhelmingly salty or sweet flavor, making it wonderful as a side for the other menus. I admit the service here was completely chinese with the ignorant waiters who won’t give effort in the nicest service, but they are quick and they get the job done, filling our glasses quick and taking our order quickly. They were quite busy when we came in and when we called in before they picked up the phone and left it somewhere for us to listen to the atmosphere. The place feels nice always and although the floors may not be clean, our tables and our wares were clean. The prices are not overcharging for such a great meal. They also open at days where most places would close (christmas etc).
This place has a big menu with various types of food from east to west as it is Hong Kong style. The food portion is big and the meat/seafood dish comes with a lot of protein. You can consider this place cheap given the amount of food. The server is nice and the food taste is quite decent - not super flavorful but moderate good flavor. The secret item we want to try is souffle. Yes the French fancy dessert! But it takes 45 minutes to make. So make sure you order that right when you enter the restaurant. I want to come back to try the souffle!
Great Hong Kong style food. I ordered the baked pork chop over rice. I loved the tomato and cheese sauce on top of the pork chop. My friends ordered a club sandwich (sandwich meat and cheese between three slices of white bread), eel fried rice, and a stir fried noodle. The service was not too long. The servers were kind. Considering that I was hard core craving Hong Kong style cuisine, this place hit the spot!
Our weekend favorite choice is the Prime Rib Special. French style filet mignon is another favorite. Garden is really an amazing place. They serve breakfast lunch and dinner and there are endless choices of dishes to try. Be prepared to be hooked. Generally busy during meal time on weekends. Best is to go early or late. Order takeout is another choice.
I know this restaurant since 1997 at valley boulevard and came back again. The food still amazing, we came for breakfast, we like the pork porridge a lot of pork and came with tasty dumpling. Also i had porkchop with eggs and sweet honey bread, this is a recommended menu for porkchop lover. Everything came with coffee and tea with sweet milk. Overall Great breakfast...
Garden Cafe is the go-to spot for great Hong Kong style food. They serve great breakfast, lunch, and dinner options. I came for dinner this time and there was no wait time to be seated. We ordered the Baked Chicken w/ Pasta, Fried Tofu w/ Mushrooms, Fried Pork Chop Noodles, and Stir Fried Pork w Veggies. It took about 10 minutes for the dishes to be served. The portions are generous for the price in this economy. I really liked the Baked Chicken with pasta. The chicken was tender and everything was perfectly baked and topped with cheese. The tomato sauce also tasted different and a bit creamier than regular tomato pasta. It was so good! The tofu was also very good since it is the soft egg tofu. The other two dishes were just okay but the portion was good. Overall I had great meal here! There was leftovers which I could pack to eat the next day. Their quality and prices are just worth! Will definitely come again for the baked pasta.
Very popular Hong Kong style restaurant. Their menu is absolutely enormous, with hundreds of items so there is definitely something for everyone. The portions are massive too, amazing value for sure. They are not stingy with the meat either. Everything tasted delicious and left me feeling satisfied and not bloated. Staff are friendly and the place is very clean.
Hong Kong style cafe. Really appreciate the customer service with good manners. We ordered Eel fried rice. Surprisingly found some small scallops and shrimps. Another Ox Tail with mushroom sauce which with decent amount of ox tails and taste delicious. Chicken thin rice noodles was good too. In general, the food quality is decent plus good customer service will gain return customers.
Very extensive selection at good prices. The staff is friendly with a generally nice atmosphere. Bathrooms need a bit of work but still a good experience. Will definitely come back again.
My all time fav dish is seafood fried rice with smelt roe. And house special beef noodle will make you feel alive again. Prices are all the same with other Chinese restaurants. Not cheap but not too pricey.
Food selections are great, the quality is acceptable, cannot go wrong, price is very reasonable. When don't know where to go, and want to have selections, this is the place to go
Good food and reasonable prices. However, my crunchy hongkong style noodle was stale (old, left out for a long time). Maybe that was the noodle that another customer had canceled. My other time, the noodles were good/fresh.
The Garden Café in Arcadia is a delightful culinary haven. With its charming ambiance and cozy outdoor seating, it offers a perfect escape from the bustling city. The menu features a variety of delicious options, from hearty breakfast dishes to flavorful lunch specials. The food is prepared with care, using fresh and high-quality ingredients. The friendly staff provides excellent service, making your dining experience even more enjoyable. Whether you're looking for a leisurely brunch or a quick bite, the Garden Café is a hidden gem that promises a satisfying and memorable meal.
Very tasty food. This place has made tremendous steps in the right direction in terms of service. They are very cordial, courteous, and happy to serve you. We gave this place a chance, loved the food and have been returning ever since. The prices are very fair. They aren't cheap, but either are their portions. They give you plenty, they don't skimp, and you leave satisfied.
We’ve been coming to this place so many times. There lots of options to choose from. Food is good and plenty per serving. Price is reasonable.
I recently visited this place, and it was an exceptional experience! The ambiance is cozy and inviting, making it the perfect spot to relax or get some work done. The staff are incredibly friendly and attentive, always ready with a smile and a recommendation. The coffee is simply outstanding. Each cup is brewed to perfection, with rich flavors that truly stand out. I also tried a few of their pastries, and they were fresh and delicious. The attention to detail in both the drinks and the food is evident. What really sets this place apart is the atmosphere. Whether you're looking for a quiet corner to read a book or a lively spot to catch up with friends, garden cafe has it all. I highly recommend this coffee shop to anyone looking for a great cup of coffee and a welcoming environment.
Typical Hong Kong cafe with a billion items on the menu. Place can get quite busy and it seems that they are a little bit understaffed. Food is good and the pricing hasn’t changed significantly. Always get the combos and be sure to check the specials in their separate menu. Steak and chicken with the garlic sauce is my go to. Drinks are still refillable but combos don’t come with the soup anymore. They have kids menu, although it’s pretty basic.
Came here for dinner with friends and had good meal and good time. I got the lobster tail and black pepper chicken. Pretty good ,but I won't get it again. There wasn't enough lobster to warrant paying for it. I like the menu here and keep coming back.
Our normal breakfast place for Cantonese fairs. This place opens at 8 am. My wife and I typically order a Cantonese set and a western set breakfast. There are varieties of breakfast sets for both Cantonese and western breakfast. While the Cantonese sets normally include a bowl of congee and a noodle plus a milk tea, the western set is more of HK interpretation of western breakfast which would include a pair of egg, a meat chop ( chicken, pork or beef), a pasta or oak meal. These sets are great value for the money. The whole set costs only less then $10 with a drink. We just love to eat here to start our day right.
Good vibes for a Hong Kong style cafe. Foods are good as usual and you will never be disappointed.
Been here a few times. The food is always good since HK Cafe, you can get breakfast even dinner time, with a lot of variety and blend of Asian and American foods. This morning, it took almost 45 mins to get our food, and they got the order wrong on one plate, sent back, then the correct plate came out. Other than that, overall like the place and opens late in case in need of late night meal or snack.
Hong Kong style Cafe. Had to order all my staples to see if they hold up to the Garden Cafe in Alhambra. Lemon iced tea, black pepper chicken steak with pasta and dont forget to add the cream corn soup! Yes it's extra but can't miss out on it. Our check covered 6 meals, an appetizer and 2 drinks and came out to $150 with tip. I would definitely stop by when driving through Arcadia when craving my HK Cafe foods!
Small little café selling mostly Hong Kong style comfort foods. However, they also have Japanese and western items. The service is very friendly and the staff are very helpful. The portion sizes for the prices are very large and reasonable. I would highly regret the mapo tofu, and the Angus Steak and Salmon or the Grilled Filet Mignon and Chicken Steak. Chicken wings and corn soup are also really good.
Recently redecorated. Interior looked great. Food was ok. Ordered linguine with scallops and mushroom. Some of the mushrooms weren't fully cooked. Flavor was bland. Companion's fried chicken looked greasy. Portions were large.
Wasnt really a good experience... Overall the food was good. But the service really sucked. Recommended by my Aunt who was with us. It wasnt so full but we had to wait a bit to be seated. After ordering, it took some time to get our orders. Halfway through, added a to go, but wasted 30min bec they "lost" it. Was hard to get refills of coffee or water. We asked several waiters several times but they conveniently forgot. Busboy came to the rescue tho. My Aunt was saying it never happened before but it does seem that all the personnel were new. There did not seem to be a system like other restaurants where u talk to an assigned waiter. You can skip all that and just buy to go if you like the food. I probably wouldnt be back myself. Good Luck.
Today I ordered beef tongue which in past visits, is served in a burgundy or a tomato sauce. Today it was covered in spaghetti sauce and the tongue was too dry and not prepared properly. This is not great Chinese cuisine. It is at best, mediocre. Original Review They offer an extensive menu of Chinese and French-Chinese items though I don't find that anything they offer is particularly great in flavor. It is mostly mediocre in taste. Many of the dishes are accompanied by either white rice or spaghetti with watered down sauce. Clearly these aren't advisable for people who are concerned about hypoglycemia. Their chow mein and other noodle dishes are probably the few better choices they offer.
This place has a good Asian fusion but the servers don't really pay attention to when we need to flag them down for assistance. The place is usually packed during lunch and dinner which helps give you an idea on how well the food is there! If you want to just order something small and do work things it'll be hard for you to find an outlet for your devices.
They must be under different owner or management. Menu is different and foods are different. No more HK style tea cafe. Price has increased three fold. For the price range, I would be rather going for seafood restaurant with better quality of food and setting. Tried their Thai style beef stew, was very salty and nothing tastes like Thai. Also tried baked pork chop rice. It was not bad, but a little pricey. HK milk tea was good.
Good place with good food. However, going over during weekends can be such a hassle! There were several times last time we went when we requested condiments the wait time was horrendous! Also, the time for our orders was extremely long. Overall, the servers are friendly and courteous!
The service was pretty horrible... I understand that they could be understaffed but we sat there for an extra hour for us to get our check and pay. It felt like a few of their servers were intentionally swerving away from our corner of the restaurant. They took our card and brought it back without charging it. They wouldn't listen to what the problem was either and just kept walking around aimlessly.
They serve traditional Hong Kong style Chinese food (fusion). Quality control is hit or miss unfortunately. It tasted very good sometimes, but only so-so/ lack of tastes at times. I order a chicken steak with pasta. The chicken steak has a lack of taste this time, and the pasta was pretty dry. Luckily, they always serve customers with soup (either cream soup or Hong Kong style borscht). I like the Hong Kong style borscht! It’s a little spicy, which was very flavorful! One good thing about this place is that they open until late! This is my go to place when I am feeling hungry at night!
DO NOT upgrade to a fried rice with your meal,.o0t for the white rice or pasta. Total ripoff trash low quality fried rice.
I knew the restaurant would be busy around noon on Saturday, so I placed my takeout order over the phone about 10 minutes in advance. After paying at the restaurant, I saw a woman with a ponytail walk out of the kitchen carrying four takeout bags. I asked if one of them was mine, but she immediately said no without even checking and told me the kitchen was very busy and that I should wait patiently. After another 20 minutes, I decided to check the bags myself—and it turned out one of them was actually mine. I understand that she was busy, but it would have been courteous to at least take a moment to check the labels on the bags.
We used to like this place, but not anymore. Recently we ordered a fried rice and fried noodle, both didn't have much taste and the seafood in them are not fresh. Very disappointed.
This review is not my usual approach to reviews. I like to focus my reviews on food because as long as the food is delicious, I actually don't mind how I'm treated. Despite the many negative reviews on here and on Yelp, there's always a steady flow of customers so I wanted to try it for myself. Food - They are known for their Hong Kong-style food, but they also have pretty much all different types of food from Italian to American. I think they would actually do better if they focused on their Chinese specialities. The food is Chinese comfort food. Surprisingly ok, the beef in my crispy noodles was tender, and the flavor was decent. But it doesn't stand out, 3 stars at best, and I wouldn't bring guests here. Now the service, which is what I usually don't like to focus on with restaurants. Our server took our order, our drinks came, and only 1 of 2 dishes were brought out. About 5 minutes later, our server came by and pointed out that we were missing a dish. I thought she was going to remind the kitchen, but she did not. Another 15 minutes passed, our server was now working the front desk and didn't come back. Since my husband was already completely done eating, I started eating his leftovers. I went to our server to let her know that my food hadn't come out yet. She sent another employee to go check. After another 5 minutes of watching that other employee serve food to another table and still not being checked on by our server, I approached her at the front desk again and this time she did apologize by running to the back. Another 5 minutes pass with no sign of our server so we just decided to wait and pay at the front. While standing there, the food finally came out so I asked for it to go. I know I'm technically getting the food, but many restaurants would not have charged me for the dish that took 40 minutes. They were apologetic at the end, but man...that took quite the effort on my part. Very disappointed.
As far as positive, the room is large, eat parking. Service was mixed: waitress absolutely refused to accommodate simple requests, the waiter was nice. Food wise, I ordered an omelette which was half way decent (hence 2 stars), but the hashbrown was totally disgusting.
Just finished breakfast, what a restaurant, server practically ignore you even they are passing you by, not sure if intentionally or really can't see you, it took 12 mins to get someone attention for a coffee refill and then another 15 mins to get the bill. Is this typical at this restaurant? I almost walk out and pretend not to pay and see if they would even notice.
My teenage daughter just went there ordered a beef with asparagus ($21.95) and an order of pork cutlet. When she opened container at home, the beef/asparagus dish had only six pieces of beef and full of broccoli. I called restaurant. The person answered phone denied any wrong doing and even refused to let me talk to the manager. Please stay away from that place. What a rip off.
The restaurant was unfriendly to a foreigner to try the yim- yang (coffee/tea) hot drink from her friend in thinking the foreigner was taking advantage of free drink. Luckily the foreigner did not know she was being treated poorly because the waitress M. said that in Chinese. Anyway, the foreigner tried and did not use to the drink after a sip. One thing needs to say clearly here: to state the purpose to try the taste of the drink was informed during request for an extra cup 10-15 minutes before the rude interruption.
I have order set breakfast including pork chop bread and Ham macaroni. After we finished eating my Ham macaroni still not been served. We told the waitress however the answer is they can pack for Togo which is not the right answer but she told us no matter how they still charge full price if we don’t want to take to go…….if this happen to any other restaurant, they will either not charge or offer discount.
The food is good. The first time I went, the service is ok. The second time I bought breakfast, I ordered online and went to pick it up. I mentioned I would like “two orders” of pineapple bun, but the lady who pick up the phone didn’t put in two orders, and also she asked me how I will like my egg cooked, I said over medium, but when I open the order at work, I saw it’s well done. If they are going to cook it well, then what’s the point to ask me how will I like it cook??? Tonight is the third time I go, and it’s the most terrible experience I had with their service. The guy who ever takes our order never smiles and is not nice the whole time. He put down the order hard on the table like I own him something, and never check on us about how our orders were. Moreover, when we are checking out I ask for a bigger to-go box and a cap for sauce. He just throws the check on the table and comes back with a really small to-go box that will not fit whatever I have leftover, so I have to ask him for a bigger one and a cap for the sauce. The whole time he looks like he doesn’t want to take care of us, and when my boyfriend went and ask for another cap because the one he gave is deformed, the same server just ignores him, and the other one is acting dumb. I know working in a restaurant is hard, so I always tried to give 20% as tip, but whatever the service is today isn’t worth the 20%. IT’S TERRIBLE!!!
Food is OK, almost cafeteria type of quality. We dined there several times and the ratings have consistently remained low. Food is either too greasy or too salty with ample MSG. Service is even worse, I needed to wave to the servers to get their attention to come take my order. Their waiters don't have a great attitude like we owe it to them for dinning there. I ordered additional food to-go but they forget. NOT going back unless I have no other places to go which is highly unlikely in SGV area. Not worth me taking any pix of my dinner.
The only good I can list about this restaurant is that it have big portions. The noodles I ordered for my Mom and I are sticky and overcooked. The broccoli and peas that goes with the pork steak and rice are yellowish and wilted. The salmon mushroom pasta had an unbelievably strong fishy odor to it as well. Lastly, my Mom had a bellyache and diarrhea soon after the meal. We came today because the dishes used to taste fine, but today I felt like I entered an entire different restaurant that I would never choose to go. Overall, Garden Café is definitely a restaurant I wholeheartedly will not recommend anyone to go now.
Don’t come here if you don’t speak Chinese or are white. This is the place my family goes to very often for HK style food. Like this is THE place. We go to the ones in Alhambra and Rowland Heights too. But never again. As I was looking for parking I dropped my husband off to put our name down because my dad’s blood sugar was dropping. By the time I parked and walked in after circling and waiting) my husband said that he’s been ignored the whole time. They seated 3 parties that came in after them, and was about to seat a table of 7, then when I piped up and said “we are a table of 4 and we came in before that table.” In Cantonese she looked at me and proceeded to ignore me. We got seated and I asked if I could talk to a manager and the response was “I don’t know anything” and laughed and walked away. Another waitress heard and asked what’s wrong and I told her. She said “oh they might not know English” and I told her “what about Cantonese? If she didn’t know English at least acknowledge people and ask someone to come up that does. The food that processes afterwards was also lukewarm if not cold. And maybe the whole start soiled our experience and taste buds but it’s not right to ignore customers, then laugh at us when we want to talk to someone then give a bs answer.
Came here recently because my friend wanted to come here. previously been here one other time about years on years on years back and did not have the greatest memory. its just a typical cafe. for me, id rather go to the other cafes than this one because the taste of the food, quality and portion are a bit different. they charge for soup when other cafes just give it to you for free, and their prices IMO are higher than the other cafes for the same dish. sure enough coming back here, the food is a bit pricy, not that fresh, and the material tastes a bit stale or kind of old. not sure if its the wok and all not washed, reuse oil or just i wonder what the kitchen look like. they have their own parking, and the place does not seem like ever have a wait, but i don't think i would come back.
It was a first time to visit this place and the staff are rude. I am an Asian and other Asian restaurants are friendly and accommodating but here they are rude and won’t be coming back. Such a bad experience
We dined in and ordered chicken, but were very disappointed to find that it was undercooked, with visible blood and raw portions inside. When we informed the staff, we were told it was normal, but undercooked chicken is not safe to eat and can cause serious health risks. We truly appreciate the effort of the staff, but food safety should always be the top priority especially when serving poultry. We hope the restaurant can take this as constructive feedback and ensure that all chicken dishes are properly cooked before being served to costumers.
