Went here for a family reunion. Both the servers and the hibachi chef were great. Everybody was very happy with their entrees and appetizers. And the hibachi chef also put on a really good light show with his flaming onion rings. We'll go there again.

Stopped at the bar to grab a drink while waiting for our table. The food was really good and our cook was a lot of fun. Enjoyed the whole experience, will be back for sure.

Stopped down after a long drive from Phoenix to Pasadena and this place hit the spot. This Japanese Steakhouse has been around for 30 years and I know why. Excellent service watched fresh fish prepped in front of me and it was delicious. Highly recommend.

Good place to eat but a bit expensive but its worth the service and food. Also make sure to have appetite because they give you a lot of food. Also the cook I recommend is Bamba.

Ah, Tokyo Wako in Arcadia, California—the place where fire, knives, and soy sauce come together in a dramatic performance that somehow results in dinner. It’s not just a meal; it’s a spectacle. A high-stakes culinary magic show where the magician is a guy in a tall hat who can flip a shrimp into his pocket like he’s been training for the Hibachi Olympics. But let’s get something straight right now: the edamame. *The edamame.* I did not travel 2,700 miles from New Jersey just to dabble in some average soybean experience. No, I came for *these* edamame—steamed to perfection, salted just right, and somehow achieving that rare feat of being both simple and transcendent. You can keep your truffle fries and artisanal tapas; I’ll be over here, in a Zen-like trance, demolishing an entire bowl of these little green miracles like a raccoon who just discovered an unlocked dumpster behind a sushi restaurant. Now, of course, the main event is the hibachi. If you’ve never been to a hibachi grill, here’s the rundown: You sit in a horseshoe-shaped formation around a giant hotplate while a chef with the reflexes of a fighter pilot juggles knives, sets things on fire, and casually roasts a zucchini midair like it owes him money. There’s onion volcanoes, flying shrimp, and at least one moment where you realize that yes, you are a grown adult getting squirted in the mouth with sake from a squeeze bottle shaped like a little boy. And you love it. The food? Fantastic. Steak, chicken, shrimp—whatever your heart desires, grilled up right in front of you with a flourish. The fried rice alone is worth the price of admission, with just the right amount of crispy bits that make you wonder if you should start cooking all your food on an enormous grill in front of a live audience. The atmosphere is lively, the staff is friendly, and the experience is a perfect blend of dinner and entertainment—because where else can you get a full meal *and* a front-row seat to a guy flipping an egg in the air and catching it in his hat like it’s just another Tuesday? Would I come back? In a heartbeat. Would I fly cross-country again for the edamame? Without hesitation. Tokyo Wako: where the food is great, the show is fun, and the soybeans are worth the price of a plane ticket.

This was my first visit and it was about 4pm so it was very quiet and uncrowded but clean. I ordered the rainbow roll and the chicken fried rice but everything was good and the staff were extremely welcoming and attentive. The rainbow roll was very fresh and the portion was large. The rice was a little heavy on the oil for me but still tasty and perfectly cooked. It was getting busy by the time I left and has been in the same location for over a decade that I'm aware of so they're clearly doing something right.

My food was absolutely amazing. Beef sashimi and spicy tuna tartare, we'll definitely be back again, customer service could use a little friendliness but fair pricing and good atmosphere.

I came here with my family for my birthday celebration. They accommodated our special needs family member and the service was impeccable. I really enjoyed the flavorful assortment of food I had and appreciated the variety of choice. I got a free ice cream for my birthday and a song from the staff. Habachi shows are always the best and it was very enjoyable. I might come back here next year for my birthday. A solid choice

Tokyo Wako Arcadia is one of those places that feels welcoming the moment you walk in. The warm, beautiful wood interior sets a relaxed vibe, and the staff matches it with genuinely friendly service, the kind where they seem happy you’re there. The menu has tons of options: rolls, noodles, hibachi-style dishes, and plenty of plates to share. The sushi really stood out for me, super fresh, clean flavors, and prepared simply (in a good way). And if you’re in the mood for a little dinner-and-a-show, the teppanyaki is fun to watch and still tastes great. Prices feel reasonable for the quality, and it’s an easy spot to bring friends or family since everyone can find something they like. Overall, a comfortable, tasty, down-to-earth place I’d happily come back to.

I come here to celebrate birthdays for family members. I used to come here for lunch when I worked near by. I don't mind traveling from a little further out because it's definitely worth it. I really enjoy watching the Teppanyaki chefs here. Food is always fresh and delicious.

I have been there twice: 3 years ago and tonight, and both my visits are fantastic. The atmosphere of Japan is everywhere - starting from front door and continuing to the very last minute of your visit at parking lot. Staffers are really friendly and welcoming. Everyone knows what to do. The food is ok but the manner to cook and present it is outstanding. They cook it in from of you and it is a real performance.watch my photos and videos and you will understand it. Highly recommend!

It was a wonderful restaurant. It had half the room set up for teppanyaki group style dinners and they also had individual tables for those who wanted a more intimate meal. We chose a table and the food was delicious!! Highly recommended.

Do you see the empty plate? It was gooood and well presented. Good service. To the owner: please separate restroom hall with a curtain so people don't have to smell it while they are eating. Great restaurant.

Took my family to Tokyo Wacko Arcadia. There was five of us. We had lunch at the sushi bar. You don't have to just get sushi there, you can pretty much get anything on the menu. We always do teppanyaki grill but this time we all wanted to do something a little bit different. We are so happy we did. Food was awesome. Services great! Next time I'll post photos.

Tokyo Wako is very nostalgic. Service and food were good as before but the interior needs some updating. The place has been the same since it opened. I don't think it ever remodeled regardless. Still good food. Good service nostalgic atmosphere. This was the first time we've been there in about 15 years but it's just as we remembered it.

When rating a teppanyaki place I usually measure against Benihana as far as flavor and the show is concerned. This place was good but the flavor was a notch under Benihana's (but still good) and the show wasn't quite as professional... that is the only reason I gave it four stars. The atmosphere and decor were very nice and they have koi fish out in the front which was delightful.

W

Good food, but keep in mind you're paying more for the experience and novelty than the food, which although is tasty but it's just like fried rice with eggs and salad. Teriyaki chicken is not that good. Teriyaki steak is good though. Expensive meal, but at least it comes with salad and soup. Eel sushi is good. Server is friendly. I like the atmosphere, it feels authentic.

The location is big, clean and plenty of parking. It wasn’t busy during my visits, the service was good and the lady server stopped by a few times refilling our drinks. The food was good I felt a bit overwhelmed with how everything was served, our chef was a bit quiet compared to the ones next to us or maybe it was just too loud that we couldn’t hear him as much. I ordered the Chicken and shrimp combo but only got like 2 shrimps LOL.

Came here for an early dinner. Colleague and I were the only ones there, and we got a teppenyaki show all to ourselves. I ended up getting the chicken and shrimp combo. It was a decent teppenyaki. Portions were not as big as what I'm used to at a teppenyaki. I typically have enough for left overs for what I pay. You get rice as part of the meal, but noodles are extra charge. Overall this restaurant was very good.

Made a reservation for my son’s birthday celebration. There is no inside waiting area so we waited outside in the heat. It was also warm inside I think their ac wasn’t working properly. They did have fans on the floor but wasn’t helping much. The waitress forgot everyone’s steamed rice. My chicken was dry. The chef was great. Very friendly and put on a great show.

When we arrived we went to the bar & waited for our group to arrive, the bartender was sociable, cordial drinks were good. Our table was soon available . i.e. short wait, our seating arrangement was tight for our group we had, 8. Our cook was friendly, professional, and courteous, as were the staff serving us. Show was entertaining & enjoyable. The food was well cooked although Bland without spice, i.e., basics salt & pepper. The steak was cooked to my liking, the shrimp could have used a little less time, and the fried rice was good. My recommendation is that perhaps the meat should have been marinated or other spices should have been added/offered. Overall, our experience was pleasant and enjoyable

The food was good & the chef was friendly. The front of house team were not so friendly. Chairs up, lights up, music off at 9pm. She asked us to hurry up and pay with half a bottle of wine left, not sure why she bothered seating us at 8 if she wanted to close early. Very blunt and unfriendly service.

This place has really gone downhill, unfortunately. We used to enjoy eating here. Tonight was our last time. The inside and outside feel very dark, musty and aged. The prices have doubled in the past 5 years with a teppanyaki steak, shrimp and scallop entree costing $57 for one person. Every fried rice upgrade is $5 per person. The sushi rolls are $20 and up. We got stuck with a cook as old as Biden. There was absolutely no entertainment/show. We may as well have sat in the kitchen. We asked, "Will you be juggling the utensils at least?" He thought we asked for him to toss us a shrimp and said, "No, people can choke." We explained again what we meant. My son even rolled a fork on his finger just like they usually do with the spatulas. The cook ignored us and finished up, cleaned the grill and left. Boring! I spoke to the managers and they said, "sorry, he's been cooking a long time". They then offered us free ice cream scoops as compensation. I don't think this restaurant can stay in business much longer at this rate.

A decent but pricey “Japanese” restaurant run by Chinese people; it isn’t necessarily bad, but don’t set your expectations too high. They didn’t have otoro (fatty tuna). The sake (Atlantic salmon) was fresh and tasty, but they failed to remove a bone (pictured). Not a good sign. The aji (Spanish mackerel) was fresh, flavorful, and not dried out. The rice should have been packed a little tighter. Overall, the fish was fresh, but sushi connoisseurs should go elsewhere.

Bday celebration in May and we had an amazingly tasty old fashion from the bartender. Hubby and I decided to stop by Saturday at 8:41pm, we took a Lyft. We walked in and noticed the bar area was empty? We asked if we could sit at the bar and the host mentioned the bar was closed but he would ask the bartender if we could order a drink. He returns and says you can order a drink but NO FOOD! 🤔 He then says that the bar closes at 8:30 unless you make a 48 hour reservation to sit and eat at the bar. On a Saturday? We don't go to food restaurant's to just drink that's what dice bars are for. Luckily across the street we had more choices of sit down restaurants. Not sure if this 48 hour advance reservation for the bar is on the website, I just thought you all should know you can stop by for dinner and a drink at the bar area after 8:30 🫣

I am at a loss of how to review it. The food seemed delicious and the chef was friendly and put a nice show. It is expensive but i thought i deserved a nice meal. Afterwards, about 20-25 min after I left I got really sick to my stomach. I still am, writing this review on the toilet boo.

Went there earlier and the server was bad!! Me and my friend had dinner somewhere and decided to grab something small in Tokyo Wako. So we just ordered California roll only. The server didn't checked up on us at all. He was gone, but when he came back, he saw us had one dishes. He was not happy and asked us what we want. We told him we do not want anything. And his response was very rude! Wao! Is there a rule in the restaurant says we can't just order only ONE item? Just feel treated badly. So weird. Will never visit again. They didn't even have dipping sauce in bottle? Gave is the package of soy sauce... So funny right.. 👎👎☹️ ruined the whole experience in this place.

January 24th, 2025, Friday night Upon entering this restaurant, we were greeted by a young male & female host the restaurant had a 45-minute wait but the bar area which had tables and small booths had a twenty minute wait we decided to go to the bar. As we were heading to the bar the male host told it was only a ten minute wait and that he would come get us when a table was available. We had a couple of beers that were overpriced. After waiting about twenty minutes we had not heard anything so we walked back to the host station, and was told by the male host we could sit anywhere we liked. I was not happy at this point. The male host working this night seemed to be out of it Once we were seated the service from the waiter was pretty good. The food was okay but not worth $23 for some lightly fried chicken tempura strips and a small salad. My partner asked for a small salad, and we were charged $5 for a small bowl. We will not be going there again. I hope this review helps the next person that patronizes this restaurant.

I recently dined at Tokyo and unfortunately, my experience was far from enjoyable. Upon arrival, the host was unwelcoming and took far too long to provide us with menus. After a 20-minute wait, we finally received water, despite the restaurant not being busy at all. To make matters worse, the plates and forks we were given had visible stains and sticky residue, which was quite off-putting. Throughout our meal, we felt neglected, as no one checked on us to see if we needed anything. It seemed like the staff only paid attention to the larger party nearby, leaving us feeling ignored. As for the food, it was just okay—nothing exceptional that would make me want to return. It's a shame because with better service, this place could have great potential. I never ci e back.

I went with the intentions to have some drinks and have a nice dinner with my family. It was my first time and it was a horrible experience and customer service sucks all thanks to the bartender. He had no manners he definitely hates his job he needs to look for another job. I work in the food industry and I'm the manager and I can tell you he would never get hired and after what he did I would of fired him. You lost good customers I will never go back. The only thing that was good was the food and the chef was fantastic.

G
George Gaona

I had to keep flagging down the waitress for tea and other drinks. Didn't wait to hear complete order. Started walking away before I had fully stated what I wanted. Her attitude made it seem like I was there on her time. No customer service attentiveness. This was my first and last visit.

J
Jason Comtpon

It was our first time going so we had no idea how everything worked, we were sat down at the big tables were apparently only certain food items were cooked in front of you, so we ordered a couple entries and we were told by the chef that the food we ordered was not for the table we were sat at not knowing how everything works we were quickly rushed away from the table with no apologies even though we told or waiter that it was our first time. It was not a good experience and we were not pleased with the results. The only good news that we have is that the second waiter we got was much more professional and polite. I hate to be this rude to a restaurant review but it's the truth we will not come back.

The menu has drastically changed. Ingredients switched out for others that really don't make sense. Food is over salted. And the pricing is all over the place. Just not as good as it used to be.
