Had my bridal shower at Anassa Taverna, and it was perfect!! The staff and manager were so friendly and accommodating to us. Food was delicious and very filling - definitely go for their lunch menu instead of brunch if you're hosting a daytime party here. Every detail was perfect, including the tablecloths, place settings, and stationery design. Highly, highly recommend this place for a party or just a nice meal!
Went yesterday with some friends and OMG! amazing food. But what really impressed me was the service from our server she was attentive, friendly, and incredibly efficient and her busser who kept our table always clean and we felt well taken care of throughout our meals. Their hard work definitely added to an excellent dining experience at anassa, will come again.
I have been to Anassa dozens of times, and every single time they just one up themselves. I dont know how much for you can ask — great food, great drinks, great people. It’s the best! Can’t wait for my next trip for an Organic Chicken and glass of wine!
Every January 1st, my husband and I take out our immediate and extended family to celebrate my nameday. As you can imagine, finding a restaurant open on New Year’s Day is always a challenge. This year, we chose Anassa in Astoria...and what an incredible decision that was. This was probably our fifth time dining here, and I felt compelled to finally write a review because what a night!!! From the very first interaction with Lefteri while making the reservation, to the warm welcome upon arrival, to being seated at a perfectly chosen table in a prime location of the restaurant...every detail was thoughtfully executed. The food was absolutely delicious, the service was superb, and the entire evening felt seamless and elevated. Having grown up in the restaurant business (family-owned), I tend to be very critical when dining out. I notice everything. Last night, however, was exceptional. Every aspect of service was checked off flawlessly: from the server, to the bus service, to the manager’s attention. The level of care was truly on another level. The cocktails were also outstanding! Very creative, unique, and perfectly balanced. Thank you, thank you, thank you to the entire Anassa team for making our celebration so special. We cannot wait to return.
Great welcoming management with sense of humor. They listen to your wishes and preferences as well as they discreetly check upon you during the stay. Helpful and attentive service! As always, very cozy athmosphere and very nicely made food - great lamb dishes. Wish the flavor of a hummus starter had more significant taste, it didn't have actually any seasoning, wish the tzatziki side was a little bigger. Would be lovely to have ouzo served on the alco menu as well! Great choice of a sweet mastiha shot as a wrap up of the visit! Will get me one for home! And will comeback!
After the passing of our mother , we needed a restaurant to celebrate her memory. Taverna ANASSA in Astoria was outstanding!! With very little notice a phone call was made to the restaurant, Mr Dimitri Filippou answered the call. I told Dimitri what I needed and without hesitation he connected me to his event coordinator, Ms VASO PLATIS . A few txts later the even was booked for 50 people. To say that Ms Vaso Platis was excellent would be an understatement . She was amazing!! My guests and I walked in the restaurant with great seating very nicely decorated for the occasion, excellent staff and service. It felt like home. Thank you Vaso, staff and Anassa Taverna !!
Anassa has to be one of the top five restaurants in Astoria. It is an absolute must go for anyone who likes fine food. The seafood is exquisite the dips. The hummus service is excellent. They have a nice bar and you could live it up here because it is an expensive restaurant, but it’s it’s worth the price.
We ate here last night for the first time and everything was absolutely fantastic!! We shared fried calamari and fried saganaki for appetizers. We ordered the Kefte kebab and filet mignon kebab and both were delicious, flavorful, and so tender- great portions too. The vibe in here is warm and energetic. Server was very friendly and paced the meal well. The manager came over to check on how we were doing, too, which is a plus. We highly recommend this place for your next date night!
Everything from the octopus 🐙 to the Anassa chips for appetizers were great! For the entrees you can select your fish of choice and they prepare it to perfection. I went with the lamb chops with the lemon potatoes which were amazing. Service was good but the place was packed so I get it. Overall great experience 🙌🏽
My first visit to this restaurant won’t be my last. The food was delicious, from the Skordalia, the zucchini chips, and lamb chops to the lava cake finish. Service was equally wonderful—friendly and responsive on all levels. I also enjoyed the casual atmosphere combined with a fine dining sensibility and attention to detail.
Visited for a birthday dinner with family and the food/service were phenomenal! The appetizers had us so full! The entrees were all amazing! I throughly enjoyed each course as well as the sangria. My faves were the Greek sausage and lamb chops- cooked to perfection! HIGHLY recommend for a special celebration or an intimate dinner. The restaurant is very stylish with great ambiance. LOVED it!!
There are many Greek restaurants in Astoria, : Anassa became my favorite. Everything was excellent—the food, the service, and the ambiance. My only suggestion would be to lower the music volume or consider playing something more calming, like classical or higher-frequency music, to enhance the overall atmosphere.
I had a wonderful experience here. We had a reservation and we were received and seated accordingly. Server was amazing and knows his craft. May be little under staffed for a place with such foot traffic. Food was amazing and my wife really loved the cocktail. That was my first experience and definitely gonna be on my goto list for future occasions.
Five of us had a party on Saturday evening. The tavern was quite busy which reflected on service (our waiter wasn't present all the time). But I can understand that. The space itself doesn't look like a typical Greek tavern, but high ceiling, good furniture and an appropriate lighting are definitely worth mentioning. The food is good, but some portions are too small. For example, Greek salad is very tasty, but the portion is way too small. The same goes for grilled saganaki. In addition, our lamb chops were served well-done, although we asked for medium. On the other hand, our red snapper was great. Restrooms are too small for a restaurant with this capacity. The wine list should be MUCH better. Overall, it wasn't a bad experience. And the prices are very reasonable to be honest. However, if I compare the food and portions with some other Greek taverns in Astoria I have to admit there are better options.
Beautiful restaurant and good food. I’m only giving it 4 stars because I ordered a steak cooked medium rare and it came out more medium-well. Also the waitress was very pushy to pack up our food and get us to pay, even though it was late and there were plenty of available tables. Otherwise, I’d still recommend. Cocktails (cleo and athena) and zucchini fritters were delicious.
Came here on a Saturday night with reservations. Very lively. Waiters were attentive. The shrimp saganaki was flavorful. The octopus was exceptional. The lamb chop was delicious. Wasn’t a big fan of the baked clams. They were too oily and not fresh. I don’t think the waiter seemed to care when my friend told him. However, we had a good time as the drinks were good.
I feel very conflicted about leaving this review. The food was great but slightly salty, but still very tasty. My lamb chops were cooked perfectly, and overall I had a good time. However, since we came on Valentine's Day, I noticed that many couples were given roses as they walked in. My partner, who was the only Black woman in the restaurant, did not receive a rose when we entered. At the time, we didn't think much of it and continued with our dinner. As the evening went on, though, we saw more couples come in and receive roses. Some of these couples were seated next to us, which left a bad taste in my mouth. I can't help but wonder what criteria the restaurant used to decide who received a rose and why so many couples who arrived after us were given one. Unfortunately, this experience spoiled my enjoyment of the restaurant and left me feeling conflicted. We ordered plenty of food, left more then 20% tip and if anyone from the restaurant sees this please reach out, if there was some criteria that needed to be met to receive a rose I would love to know
3.5 stars which just ok. The restaurant had a beautiful atmosphere and excellent service, but the food was just mediocre. There are far better Greek places that are authentic in the area. We had the Saganaki and beet salad for our appetizers. The Saganaki was very good, but the beets in the salad tasted like it was straight from a can. For entrees we had the filet and kofta kabobs and sea bass plaki. The kebabs were good, but the sea bass plaki was very bland. For desserts we had the orange cake and the chocolate cake both were mediocre and not worth ordering. Nothing was terrible here, but nothing was amazing either. Overall it was mediocre and not worth a second visit.
First time there. Restaurant vibes were great. It seemed busy and lots of tables were packed. Bar was busy as well. Food was very good. However, the service was TERRIBLE. Our waitress didn’t fully speak English, but proceeded to correct us on the pronunciation of the dishes. She was very condescending and only warmed up to us once my friend started speaking Greek to her. She did not walk around the table to take the order. I felt like I was ordering at a pub because I was basically screaming my order to her since the place was so loud. She then never came back to check on the table at all. Food came out very late and in batches. Not because it was busy, it was because they didn’t have anyone running the plates. I cancelled an order because somehow it never showed up to the table with everything else, once I called a busboy to ask to call the waitress over, she decided to come like 10 minutes after. By then everyone else was finished with their dishes so I canceled mine. I would probably go there once more to get the vibe again, and see if these are recurring issues. I will definitely not go back during dinner time, seems like they are not ready for a packed house. Again, food was good, for what we had. Drinks were not strong, but not weak either. They were ok restaurant drinks. Service was 1/10 and if I was given the same server I would request a different one. She was terrible. Being pretty and blonde doesn’t mean she has to be condescending, inattentive and rude.
