Opinions de Cafe Xochimilco Astoria
OMG!!! I am in love with this place, their food and the atmospheres. Awesome customer service. (The chilaquiles are from another world, yummmmyyy)
Lovely place for breakfast! There is a lilting Mexican music playing while the host and hostess go about serving their guests, all with a smile. Food is simple but tasty. Priced reasonably, you cannot go wrong ordering any one of their dishes. Tea is served as well as coffee and soft drinks. Nice decent tables and chairs. Good ambience.
Chilaquiles and breakfast platter are both tasty. Was also surprised by their empanada Salteñas. Staff is friendly and service is pretty good. Will definitely go back.
Spectacular spot with loving attention to detail. Buenísima comida y atención. Some of the best chilaquiles I’ve had anywhere, Mexico or internationally. Such a gem. Una joya total.
This is my second time here and I hope it isn’t the last one. I love their Tamales, chilaquiles, Oaxaca tacos, the atole is amazing!
Came here for brunch, was pleasantly greeted and welcomed, the staff also were warm and happy to recommend dishes. When we asked questions they were patient and honest, the portions are incredibly generous and the quality was good, will def come back soon :)
The food was absolutely out of this world!! The cucina special was so good I forgot about the green sauce until the end and that was fire too. Friendly staff, small business, and a cozy atmosphere. Couldn’t recommend it enough
I happened to be in the Long Island City neighborhood and was looking for a place to have dinner. While checking Google, I came across this Mexican spot called Xochimilco. I’ve actually been to this city in Mexico before, so I thought I’d give it a try. The great star ratings were well deserved—this place is very authentic. I met Johnny, one of the staff members (possibly the owner), and he was incredibly friendly. I ordered the torta al pastor, and it was amazing. I travel a lot and visit Mexico often, and I can honestly say this is one of the best—if not the best—I’ve ever had. I’ll definitely be back and am looking forward to trying more items on the menu. I also had a jamaica drink, which was perfectly balanced—not too sweet, just right. Highly recommend!
I stayed in the hotel nearby and came here twice during my 3 days stay with friends in NYC. Chilaquiles verdes were amazing, I highly recommend Cafe de Olla as well. The French toast was insanely delicious with lots of berries and bananas, definitely an unexpected good surprise. Plates are big enough to share. Thank you a lot for the amazing service, you made me feel home!!!
I’ve been on a hunt for the best chilaquiles all over NYC, and honestly, most spots in Manhattan are way overrated. This place, though—absolutely amazing! The chilaquiles were so delicious, full of flavor and perfectly done. The customer service was just as impressive—everyone was super friendly and attentive, making me feel right at home. Brooklyn spots never disappoint, and this one is definitely authentic. I’m sure I’ll be back very soon!
The food at Cafe Xochimilco is the reason why there can be a bit of a wait for a table. The tacos gobernador is plated simply and contains big, juicy shrimp seasoned just right. The enchilada, topped with fresh greens and crema, is more visually appealing, but its flavor is definitely enhanced by the house hot sauces. The order can take awhile to come out when they’re busy. Please note that there’s a 3% surcharge if you pay by credit.
I found this restaurant during a visit to NYC and I will come back every time. We had the nachos as we were looking for a snack. We replaced the meat with Birria and my friend who was going to have a bite could not stop. Delicious!!! And the service was really nice too. Highly recommend!
Wow wow wow, the food is sooooo FRESH and TASTY. It’s easy to tell that the restaurant keeps everything fresh daily. I had a torta de milanesa de pollo and let me tell you, IT WAS AMAZING. It’s such a pretty interior and such a great date spot. Try the tamarind juice and/or the other juices they make in house. The staff are super friendly and inviting. I highly recommend.
I’ve been here twice now and definitely intend to keep coming back! The food is delicious, the staff are so nice , and the space is beautiful. I have enjoyed every single thing we got here. The tacos gobernador are stellar; the shrimp is perfectly cooked and the cheese pairs so well with the texture. I also LOVE the chilaquiles—so saucy and tangy and perfect with a side of eggs. Such a lovely, vibrant spot that I highly recommend checking out!
Wow!!! Couldn’t wait to take pics before digging in, but the presentation was lovely. Incredible, authentic Mexican food. This is restaurant quality, made-to-order food disguised as a casual cafe. Shrimp was perfectly seasoned & prepared. The avocado salad was tasty, refreshing, and perfectly portioned, and the enchiladas were delicious! The woman who runs the place is so sweet, and the decor is so cute! The tables are topped with colorful tiles which adds to the vibrant energy of the place.
I loved everything about this cafe. The food was excellent, and the portions generous. I haven't had shrimp tacos this tasty before. The chilaquiles were more standard, but still top class. The staff was friendly and service was fairly quick. The decoration is simple but cozy, and the natural light coming in from the windows is quite pleasant.
The food here was absolutely delicious and the prices were very reasonable for the quality and portion sizes. I tried the special dish of the day and it did not disappoint — the cheese was incredibly fresh and honestly my favorite part of the meal. You can really taste the quality of the ingredients. The only thing I wouldn’t personally recommend is the café de olla — it was a bit too sweet for my taste. But that’s just a personal preference! Everything else we tried was excellent and full of flavor. Just a heads up: the place gets very busy, so you might have to wait a bit to be seated. Definitely worth it though!
If I were lucky enough to live within walking distance of Cafe Xochimilco, I would likely be always there. The staff is excellent, the portions are generous, and the food is delicious. We stopped in for breakfast on a random Sunday. The first thing we noticed was that the table next to us had ordered a plate of chilaquiles with steak in a proportion large enough for two. So we ordered that, but still wanting to try more than one thing on the menu, we also ordered chorizo tacos. My wife had coffee while I opted for the freshly squeezed orange juice. Overall, this place is great, and we will certainly return for lunch.
A very cozy place with good quality food. The flavors are on the gentle side, which i appreciated a lot for the agua frescas and deserts (not too sweet) but I could have gone with a bit more flavor in the beans. The flan was very good. I did find the prices a bit high for what I got. I feel that either portions should be increased or there should be something a bit more special. For example, it was 18 dollars for a plate of only rice, beans, and eggs. At least have some sides like pickled vegtables / lime / cilantro on the side.
Disclaimer: I’m from Texas. A lot of people don’t realize Mexico or any country by region has different style foods. Being from Texas, I’m used to Tex-Mex (which is a whole thing on its own) Jalisco taquerias, I guess more northern Mexican food. This place reminds me of southern Mexico type food, like you’re visiting South America. Wasn’t for me, at least for breakfast. $18 for a burrito that’s half beans and rice. Not sure if it was the chorizo or the beans but something had a bit too much coriander in it. All I could taste before putting any sauce on it. They use Oaxaca cheese so you know that’s not adding any flavor to anything that’s seasoned up like that. Just not for me. Seems like the family is great and it’s not lacking service or anything for sure. Spot is chill. Just would want more egg or meat versus beans and rice for $18.
