I love this restaurant; it’s my family’s and my favorite. The atmosphere is very pleasant, the food is always delicious, and the service is simply exceptional. I would especially like to highlight María, a very kind, attentive, and charming server who always makes us feel welcome and turns every visit into an even better experience.
The food is delicious and the service is very fast! Everyone is super friendly, and I even got to see flamenco. Lourdes took wonderful care of us. I would definitely come back.
Every time we go to Sala, we are always graciously attended by the staff there. Lourdes, our server is always so attentive and knows what we’re thinking before we do. Food is absolutely out of this world- we order the gambas and pulpo every single time!
This place is absolutely amazing—somehow it gets better every single time we go. The food is outstanding and the service is truly top-notch. Maria is hands-down one of the best waitresses we’ve ever had. She always remembers us and the exact dishes and drinks we usually order, which is so rare and impressive. On top of that, she’s incredibly pleasant, attentive, and genuinely makes you feel welcome every time you’re there—service like hers is what keeps us coming back. I highly recommend the bacon-wrapped dates and the fried goat cheese—two of our absolute favorites. The drinks are also excellent, well-made and strong, with no watered-down cocktails here. Definitely save room for dessert—the chocolate cake is my favorite. It’s similar to a lava cake and made fresh, so it takes a bit of time, but it’s completely worth the wait. The atmosphere is cozy and inviting, making it a great spot for a night out. It does get busy later in the evening, so I recommend making a reservation if you’re going after 6pm. One of my favorite places to eat in Astoria!
Sala is so underrated! The happy hour special is an insane value and the food is so delicious. Very authentic Spanish cuisine. We sat at the bar and Hernan was so helpful & accommodating. Recommended to everyone, but especially a date night or girls night.
Maria es una flor muy bonita!!! Croquetas - get the sampler. We had hongos, camarón, jamón. Unreal. Brunch: My man had paella con huevos revuelto. Delicioso: I had Spanish Ratatouille. forget it, so GOOD!!!! the drinks?: THE BEST IN THE AREA. get the bottomless deal, they have bellini, mimosa, sangria, draft beer all in one. for 90 min you can combine all of them. they’re all strong as hell, amazing flavor, they’re not skimping on the good champagne girl. they’re not using store bought orange juice. more than fairly priced as well WELL WORTH THE COST. we can’t wait to try scallops next. THANK YOU MARIA!!! 💕💕💕 y todo el equipo Sala los queremos 💝
My mother and I noticed this place during its development and fell in love with the decor and the atmosphere. The food and service has been amazing since day one! The flamenco nights are a must see and busy so get here before the show starts to secure your seats. The wine selections are great and I recommend the Gambas Al Ajillo and the Croquetas as a shareable starter. Enjoy Sala!!!
First time dining at Sala, which was recommended by a coworker, and I must say I did enjoy it! The ox tail croquettes were so fresh and delicious, grilled octopus and of course the seafood paella, which all went well with the Rioja Tempranillo glass of wine. I somewhat agree with a previous post that the portions are on the smaller size, but perfectly enough not to over do it . Will revisit again, probably on a live Flamenco performance night.
.It's a beautiful place, with a family-friendly atmosphere and delicious food. Every time I come, I enjoy it, and it’s one of my favorite Spanish restaurants in Astoria. María is an excellent waitress.
This quickly became our favorite spot for a light bite of tapas, date night, happy hour, weekend brunch, celebrations - it always hits! It’s so rare to find a place that nails great service AND excellent food/drinks. They have so many things to try, rotating wines, and weekly specials so there’s always a chance to try something new. The manager is knowledgeable about everything on the menu, as well as what’s behind the bar. It’s clear a lot of effort goes into curating the offerings and making sure guests have a good time. See you soon, Hernan!
We go to Sala ALL the time. Often a restaurant does a couple things well; Sala is one of those rare spots that does almost everything well! The food is incredible, authentic Spanish fare, and the service is amazing. Hernan, who usually behind the bar, makes an awesome cocktail, provides great insight into the wines (actual tasting notes, not just "that's a sweet white") and excellent food recommendations. We love this spot!
Sala it has always been since it opened a couple of years ago our favorite Spanish restaurant in the neighborhood. Good vibes, great service and tatesful meals. This time we ordered a Paella de Mariscos, that was exquisite. Thanks to our waitress Maria, she is very sweet and charm us with her beautiful smile, love this place and can’t wait to be back.
I’ve been to Sala a few times now, every time feels like a special occasion and the food is always fabulous. Maria our server on my last visit was so attentive and accommodating. I’ll be back any chance I can get!
The food took me right back to Barcelona Not only was the food so flavorful, it was also so fast. We sat down at 7:00pm on a Friday and had our Tapas by 7:20. The staff was the next best part of our experience, they noticed our table was wobbling slightly and fixed it right away without us even asking. Dropped our napkin by accident, they replaced it immediately (again without asking) It’s hard to find good treatment like that nowadays in restaurants Overall, ambiance, food, and service were 10/10. I can’t wait to come back!
What an amazing place! 🍲 The food was absolutely wonderful. I loved the different flavors and textures, and it was all at a great price. 🧑🍳 The service was incredible—so attentive and genuinely friendly. The restaurant itself has a warm, family environment. Combined with the good music and perfect lighting, it just creates a fantastic atmosphere
Definitely the best Tapas place in Astoria! Food, service and ambient are magnificent! We made a ‘tour’ through the tapas menu and we weren’t disappointed. It’s a Must in Astoria! Hard to decide what was the best, but, gazpacho, goat cheese with honey and as dessert the crispy apple it’s my highlight recommendation
Sala in Astoria is a total win. We grabbed seats at the bar and had a great time—fantastic bartender, super welcoming and on point. The food was delicious across the board: tender octopus, elegant white asparagus, and flavorful mejillones conservas. The standout? The seafood paella—rich, perfectly cooked, and packed with depth. Great vibe, lively clientele, and a space that feels both relaxed and buzzing. A low-key gem that knows exactly what it’s doing.
Great energy, great service most specially GREAT food! Congrats to their Chef and crews! Everything were delicious! They just opened and they already set the bar high! Welcome to the neighborhood! I’ll def be back! And hope they can serve brunch too and put some tables outside since summer season is coming. For sure that would be a hit!
4/5 : Good tapas, great service, questionable paella Came here to celebrate my girlfriend’s birthday. We ordered the artichoke croquetas special, patatas bravas, hanger a la plancha, alisios cheese, and paella de mariscos. The croquetas and patatas were incredible! They both had so much flavor. The croqetas melt in your mouth a bit. The sauce that the patatas were covered in was delicious, and this dish ended up being our favorite. The hanger a la plancha – hanger steak on top of bread – was also really good. However, its valdeón cheese taste was a bit too strong for both of us. Not saying it’s bad, just not for us. The food was great, up until the paella de mariscos. Simply put, it tasted off. The rice has a pretty pungent, overly strong seafood taste to it. The shrimp was good and the mussels were alright, although a bit too closed so it was annoying getting the meat out every time. But the oysters, we both instantly noticed they didn’t taste fresh. There was water inside the shell, suggesting they may have been frozen. With the rice and the oysters being so off, we only made a small dent in this giant dish. Thankfully, the service was great. Our waitress understood when we told her in earnest that we did not like the paella, and so she did not charge us for it which we appreciated. Also, they brought out our Belgian chocolate cake with a candle and sang happy birthday, which was appreciated! The inside is large and spacious, and the decor was an appealing, modern design. If you want to take some nice restaurant pics, this place fits the bill. Overall, we had a great birthday dinner! I recommend it, and I’d be willing to come back at some point, at least to try some more of the tapas.
7/20 update - I feel like I’ve been sleeping on the quality of the food here. The branzino here is probably one of the best I’ve had in the area, including the Greek places. Garlic shrimp is amazing. Recommended. —— Came here for dinner on a Tuesday night. Turns out they have flamenco dancers performing every Tuesday during the summer! Sat at the bar and ordered a few plates to share. Definitely the standouts were the gazpacho and pork terrine, with crispy skin! The other dishes, cauliflower, shrimp, and calamari were tasty. Service was nice and attentive. A few wines on the list along with cocktails. I personally didn’t enjoy the red wines as they were too tannic - I tried two. The white, Albariño, was the way to go! This experience was much better than the last time I visited last year!
Everything was good. We had a small catch-up dinner with my sister, and Sala was our destination. We’ve walked past Sala many times and always said, "We should try it…" A year has passed, and finally, here we are. The Hanger A La Plancha was an okay dish for a meat lover like me. It’s light and tasty. If I had to find something to criticize, it would be that there were only two pieces per order. Next was Pulpo A La Plancha, grilled octopus with mojo verde. It’s tender, juicy, and delicious. I would say this was the best of the night. If I had to find a negative point, it would be that the portion was too small for $22. Gambas Al Ajillo was shrimps with olive oil, garlic, and parsley. Very fresh and delightful. Again, if I had to find a spot to deduct points, it would be because the portion was so small for $18. The last dish was Paella De Mariscos at $24 per person. It was good, full of seafood, and not fishy. I’m not a seafood type person but could still say this was good, so you should try it. Luckily, this Paella wasn’t that small, and it filled up the three of us very well. Along with wine, spirits, and cocktails, I would say Sala was a good place to try. Not definitely, but worth a try.
❤️ Overview: My husband and I went on a double date here on 4th of July. We had a wonderful experience. All the food was good and our waitress was great. She really knew the menu well and was able to recommend things she liked. My friend and I shared two bottles of wine so we were definitely have a good time! 🤣 The only thing that was not ideal was that the table next to us who came in way after we were already eating, got their paella before we did. But other than that, everything was great! ❤️What was ordered: FOOD: vegetable croquettes, hanger la plancha pinchos, pan tumaca con jamon pinchos, pulpo a la plancha, vegetable paella for 2 DRINKS: 2 bottles of the Cabernet blend ❤️Stand outs: The pinchos ❤️Would I come back/recommend: Yes - I would come back Yes - I would recommend
I met some friends for dinner at Sala. True to its name, the place feels more like a living room, with tables and chairs arranged in a cozy, homey manner. The food was decent—nothing exceptional—and the mixed drinks were also satisfactory but nothing memorable. The relaxed atmosphere was nice, but I’d probably choose to go somewhere else next time. Parking was a real hassle; I spent about 20 minutes driving around before finally finding a spot three blocks away.
