Opinions de Julio's Market Chicken & Fish Athens
Everything on the menu is great! Good chicken and fish! Chicken Fried Steak is wonderful!! All the sides are good too!
Great chicken and the jalapeno peppers are great (found out they dont make there own poppers but that doesnt effect how good they are)
Convenient and easy to drive through for pickup. My favorite is their chicken strips. Always good food.
Love the food. Great for lunch. They have wonderful sides and I love their biscuits!
Always support local businesses. They always give a lil extra and a smile. Lovely as usual
So much better than chain fast food places. Locally Owned and care about the local customers
It's the best fried or baked chicken in East Texas. The chicken fried steak is much better than Cotton Patch or any other in town. Everything is seasoned perfect.
They simply have the best chicken in Athens I've tried KFC I've tried Popeyes and another place can't remember the name of it but Julio's chicken is the best
The best place to eat in town. Fast and great value. Clean and all items are really good. 1 year since last review, but stand by original review.
Really open friendly people that has some finger licken good chicken .. Best part is the up keep on staff that keep a tidy kitchen.. Happy custo Satisfied Bring your family and friends And let them try Some of the best chicken fried..
Good food at a good price. Daily specials and friendly service. KFC went in next door but I will always choose Julio's.
Always fresh and deliciously seasoned. Good veggie plates, chicken variety and fish too!!! Check their specials. Convenient and friendly owners and staff.
The chicken sandwich was amazing!
Top notch customer service! Food was delicious and the okra was a hit!! Thank you!!
Loved it always have great food great people always friendly service great atmosphere comfortable fresh food and clean eating area #1 place to eat in my family
The best fish dinners in Athens. Great fish and good selection of sides. Love their sweetcorn.
Their fish is really good. So are the hushpuppies and the tartar sauce. I also love getting the teacher discount.
Julio's seems to be a family-run fast-food fried chicken enterprise, which was touching and amusing on my visit. I picked up a family dinner. Dark meat is considerably cheaper than mixed, which is perfect, frankly. Ten pieces of dark-meat chicken and two enormous sides runs $16, so about what you might pay at a Popeye's or similar. The entire staff seemed to be related to each other, and almost certainly not over the age of 18. But they knew what they were doing, and processed my order quickly. While they were all but out of the sweet biscuits, they did offer me an apple pie (think McDonald's) gratis, which was a pleasant surprise.
Julio's Market has the best chicken and a lot of other food choices ! The prices are very reasonable and the food is extremely well prepared. My wife, Brenda, and I would eat at Julio's every day. Julio and his staff are remarkable. I love Julio like a brother. Harry Barger
I don't eat coleslaw.... it is delicious....! Their chicken is amazing....! My son even liked it.... and he is picky.... the cobbler is really good too.... 3meals and desert for a little over $15....
I had not eaten there in years. I enjoyed the meal with good conversation. With my new friends. WOW!.
I love Julio's chicken! They used to be bring chicken to our high school back in the day..and I still crave it till this day. My favorite order, though, is the chicken fried steak and always a roll because they are so delicious.
Since we have 6 plus chicken places in town. Ugh. KFC right next door , but Ill equipped . This is the place to get the best chicken, for the best price in town. But just make mashed tators like Popeye's
Omg I ate there for the 1st time yesterday in Athens, Texas passing through and the food was sooooo good!
First time I've ever eaten at Julio's. I don't know what I was expecting but it wasn't what I got. The chicken was crunchy and flavored perfectly. The mashed potatoes and green bean were great and there were plenty with the meal. I am not a big bread eater but the roll was delicious. I will definitely stop by again.
First time visiting and it was delicious, and reasonably priced!
Everyone here is very friendly, and the food is good and a fair price
Crispy, tender chicken, fresh vegetables, homemade rolls, and friendly service!
Awesome job by Perla and Yolanda! Perla was so helpful and has a wonderful personality! Julios has the best fried liver around!
Julios has the best chicken fruedsteak in Athens Tx.check it out.
The owner is the best his kindness and loyalty to his family, employees, and customers. Can't ask for more. the food is just amazing. The owner is amazing person of God and friend. Everything about this place is just wonderful the service the atmosphere the food even the staff. Hope to see you again brother.
Today was our first time coming to Julios and we definitely loved it! The food all came out hot and fresh, all of the staff was very friendly, and the restaurant was clean and organized. For as much food was on each plate, the prices are also very reasonable! We will definitely be coming back soon!
Nice place with friendly staff. The chicken livers were cooked fresh upon our order and were simply splendid. Gravy on the side for dipping them in. Mashed potatoes and roll were basic but good. Sweet tea was made really well and they have the crushed ice. Peach cobbler was warm and amazing. Freshly made. Dining area and the bathrooms were spotless. Real clean environment with tasty food.
Humble owner. Great service and great chicken. In my opinion. The best around. You should check our their new item: Spicy Chicken Tenders. Usually Spicy Chicken Tenders are either to spicy, over seasoned or under seasoned. However; these are phenomenally well rounded all around. Perfect crisp after every bite, golden brown, perfectly flavored to the point where you can taste the spice but not be to spicy. Try them out!
Good Fish and chicken and the best jalapeño pepers in athens. But their Mac and cheese is garbage. Otherwise it's good.
Fish & Tartar Sauce were FANTASTIC. The Creole Rice & Corn on the Cob lacked the right seasonings!
It was delicious, I would go back the next time I go to the Athens. Great service, and the place is very clean.
Chicken and large yeast rolls or glazed bisquits. Some suggestions substitutions ok. Staff young but helpful
Good chicken and good iced tea. Kind of run but always pretty clean. I go here for chicken before i go to the chain stores.
Good fried chicken for a fast food place. Not over salty and seasoned like the bigger chains. One doesn't go to a fast food place for "atmosphere."
I've never tried their Chicken wings or breasts, but their chicken strips are the best I've ever had. Juicy, tender, and just perfection! Their sides leave much to the imagination with the Mac and Cheese having little cheese flavoring and all of the rest being quite poor.
The food is really good, fresh. If you like fried chicken or fish, check them out! Their sides are also good. The staff are friendly and prompt about getting orders out.
My Mom and I eat here every time I'm in town. She loves the fried fish and I'm all over the chicken. We both like the biscuits and the ladies are nice. Prices are very reasonable and if you leave hungry, it's your own fault for not eating some peach cobbler! The facility is no 5 star, but the food brings us back. Beats Chicken Express!
Good food and good prices! The owner is normally there taking your order and the store is fairly clean. Julio's has the best chicken fried steak in town and have a special for it on Thursdays! The sides are always great and I especially like the fried okra and the cajun rice!
We stopped in for a quick lunch on Sunday. Not super busy but had a nice after church crowd while we dined in. We haven't been to any of the Julio's restaurants in a while and gave this one a try. I should have taken a Pic if the current menu board. Lots of great options and very affordable prices. My son and I both ordered the 4 piece catfish combo that came with a side, hushpuppies, roll and a drink. I believe menu price was only about $10.50. Portions sizes were great and we definitely got a great value. The fish was absolutely delicious! It was fried fresh upon ordering, seasoned well and had a great crunch. Probably some if the best fast food style catfish we've ever had. The tarter sauce was excellent too. If it wasn't housemade....they definitely have it some extra flavor...top notch to go along with their excellent fish. Counter service was great and all employees were friendly and welcoming. As others have mentioned, the fries were a bit lacking. No salt or seasoning. Hot and fresh... they just needed a little something besides ketchup. The rolls we were served were cold and not very fresh either. Just some minor things that kept me from giving it 5 stars. But we will be back. The fried chicken looked delicious too and I'll probably have to get the fish and chicken combo plate.
Food is always great, customer service is a different story...
First time there... Fish was good but small. Husband had tenders and said they were good. Rolls weren't very soft and were dry.. they need to offer honey or butter for them. Need to give more tartar sauce for fish plate. My husband said his dirty rice was not fresh and crunchy, like they scraped the pan. Coleslaw I had was good just not too creamy... Fountain drink was good. They do offer combo meals which we got.. they come with a drink... I would try it again but would try the fried chicken instead.....
Locals seem to like it. Just ok for us. Fish a little overcooked. Fried chicken was cold.
The food is good. But they're usually not friendly. Especially the little african american gal. She never smiles and rarely friendly. Like she's always mad.
Decent chicken place. Price is fair. Pretty good hush puppies. Gravy is really good when it’s fresh!
Chicken is good. Mom loves their catfish. But there was an odd smell, should have got it to go.
The chicken is pretty good. I wouldn’t go out of my way... the sides were meh. Price was fair.
The chicken is juicy and flavorful, but the rolls that accompany it are ridiculously huge for no apparent reason. Some of the staff members are not familiar with the menu and daily /weekly specials and have abrasive, condescending undertones when they address customers. It doesn't rise to the level of needing to get management involved, but it'll certainly make you reconsider continuing with your order.
I only ever get the jalapeño poppers because everything else is too expensive. A sweet tea is over $2.00 for example. So since I always order the same exact thing I can say they are very inconsistent in number per order and sometimes they are way overcooked with almost no cheese left in them. This used to be my favorite place to get poppers because they were always good, but not in the last 10 or so months.
"Best chicken in Athens" HAHAHA I always snicker when I see that sign, last 2 times I went the chicken was dry and the food terrible, sorry guys that title belongs to CHICKEN EXPRESS. 7/20/2013 *UPDATE* This time it seems to have improved, decided to give them another shot and the chicken was actually pretty good and didn't taste like it had been under the heat lamp that long, fries tasted like they just came out of the fryer and roll was ok. Improved 1 star rating to 3, will see where we go from there.
Decided to eat here instead of overcrowded KFC next door. This day I should have gone somewhere else. Not only was the fish and chicken subpar but was dry. Asked for tarter sauce and was given one TINY bit. Don't see how they were selected as Best chicken.
The first time we ate the chicken it was great this time the chicken was old and the oil it was fried it was really old. What a disappointment to get home and have such bad food
Fish was overcooked. The rest of the food was really good.
They do not honor their prices on line said that athens doesn't update their online ads but we were waited on by a young lady that was a member of our church we attend n she made things much better by offering us the Sunday specials
Coleslaw was just raw cabbage,no taste no flavor, gravy very runny an no flavor, rolls cold an hard as a rock, chicken tenders just ok
Quality and service down, place always looks dirty but food so/so
I think it was 2012? when Julios won the best chicken. Because in Athens in 2007-2012 unless you got chicken from Brookshires, gas station or Walmart.. it was the only place. Chicken Expess, Popeyes, and now KFC took over. It used to be better, but it's got a lot more competition.
Unfortunately the food was not good. Fish ok, wings and fries were not tasty.
Fries were cold. Chicken strips tough. Roll dried out & floors were filthy.
Nasty, dry, cold macaroni and cheese. Two tiny pieces of chicken, typically in a chicken meal it comes with a breast and a leg or wing, not a wing and a leg. They were over-cooked and old. Okra was cold and soggy. Tenders we got were decent sized, but also cold. They didn’t have any dipping sauces other than gravy. They also charge a fee for running your card but don’t disclose that until you take your receipt and then tell you that’s why there’s a “cash adjustment,” which is fine... but put a sign up and let people know.
Usually a pretty good place to eat until tonight. I asked to exchange the thighs in our family mixed chicken meal for legs instead and they wanted to charge extra and then we get home and only had 3 rolls and no biscuits, when we asked for half rolls and half biscuits. Not a happy customer.
Prices have gone up and quality has gone down. Don't know if there is new management or not, but the quality is not what it use to be. I have bragged about their chicken strips so many times, but not now, They use to be nice big strips of chicken, now they are small, The last ones we bought were barely a couple of inches long. Not as juicy as before, now some what dryer. So guess it is "Good Bye "Julio's and "Hello" Chicken Express".
Worst Customer Service in town when it comes to the evening shift. The girls that work there are rude the chicken is never fresh and when you ask for fresh they tell you it will be 45 minutes before it is ready. I have never had this problem during the daytime while the owner is in.
The other day I got jumbo chicken strips. And they were basically just your regular chicken strips. I have had their jumbo chicken strips and you get more meat in the more thicker and Fuller. I complain to the cashier about it and she just looked at me like I was nuts and told me that that was the jumbo-size chicken strips no these were thin not crispy we're kind of crispy but not really crispy and there wasn't that much meat on them. Do you need to tell your employees and cook there that they need to cook and jumbo chicken strips big ones I'm tired of getting these little bitty skinny ones when I order jumbo chicken strips. I will try you guys out one more time this week and if you can't give me jumbo chicken strips I'm out. Not coming back to that place again.
If you want real seafood and cajun rice this is not the spot. Their food taste like athens...bland and without true seasoning. The hispanic ladies also have no manners. Please do not waste your money
When I visited this place, it was not very busy at the time. Three were working the front counter and there was a lady working in the back cooking with another lady helping prepare chicken. They were very nice with customer service. Food was good, only the macaroni and cheese was a little cold when it was served, but the rest was very well done. The thing that bothered me the most to give it two stars was that one of the workers put a plate of food off to the side of the front counter while customers were being served. She was eating off the plate of food and licking her fingers and then touching the utensils to pick up chicken without washing her hands in between. She kept going back and forth between the eating of the food and serving food by putting it on trays for the one that was actually waiting on the customers to help that cashier. She should have been to the side and not behind the counter eating her food. She should not have been touching the utensils or any of the trays that the customers eat off of. You can definitely tell that all of the crew that were working there knew that she was eating while she was serving food. Also the cook in the back, you could tell that she knew that the lady was eating at the front counter also. This is extremely unsanitary for customers to get plates that she touches with her licked fingers. I don't believe I will return here again even though the food was good and the service was great.
Sat in line for seven minutes before anyone ever answered me on the loudspeaker. While an employee hung out the window and talked to someone in a van. At least say I’ll be right with you!
Chicken tasted old. My okra was definitely old. Fries were subpar. And I waited 5 minutes spent $$26. What a waste.
Chicken livers were raw and they did not want to fix it then they told me there was no manager on duty I will never go back
Went through Julio’s drive thru. The sign said open and the lady behind the counter saw us drive in. We realized they were close when no one would answer the speaker. The problem is the lady behind the counter let us sit at the drive thru and would not take the time to tell us they were closed.
Just spent 30 minutes waiting on food in the drive through after waiting 10 minutes sitting at the box to order. The server had a bad attitude. If I could give less stars I would.
My mother is allergic to fish so she asked them to nake some fresh chicken and put it straight into a box so that it didn't touch the fish but they completely ignored her and let them mix anyway so my mom has to go somewhere else to get her food
I asked questions about meals. The drive thru woman was rude and aggrevated so I left.Customer service needs improvement.
Went through drive-up and ordered a fish dinner with 4 pieces of fish. Drove 30 miles home only to discover there were four chicken tenders instead of fish. I will never go there again!!!!
Got some bad fish that made me sick! I knew it didn’t taste the best however didn’t relize it was bad till a little while later.
Very disappointed.. I purchased 10pc chicken only..Sunday 1:30 Today August 6th. The chicken was OLD!!! Looked like it was from yesterday 😡The legs was so small and almost burnt looking. I think that's shameful to serve someone something that should of been thrown out!!! She was a Grown woman she knew better...I should of taken it back ...but I said NEVER GOING THRU THE WINDOW AGAIN...IF I GO BACK!!! DON'T SERVE A PERSON SOMETHING YOU WANT SERVE YOUR OWN FAMILY OR FRIENDS 😡 THE young lady at the window was Beautiful and kind.❤️ JUST WOW!!! PEOPLE CHECK YOUR FOOD OR GO INSIDE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Extremely rude little hispanic at the window, very sarcastic about them closing early. Tells me they have no chicken or fish which is very confusing since that is the very thing you sell, couldve just simply said we are closing, then some black lady felt the need to yell out that it was mothers day as if i was unaware of the holiday! Owner and Mgr watch your employees because how you talk to customers is very important for business! I am one less customer you have to worry about now!
Was recommended, food good, just make sure they are open. Don't go by hours listed, and if you are not sure don't honk in the drive thru, you will see how rude and ugly the workers are. From the window it appeared they had been waiting on someone, I waited 5 minutes and honked and I barely got an explanation when the window was slammed. Here is a novel thought, if you are closed, don't stand around collecting a paycheck while you send customers away.
The chicken they gave me in my order looked like it had been sitting a long time. 27 dollars for food we could not eat. I don't know what changed because they used to serve good chicken.
We ordered 10 piece mixed meal with 3 fish added. when we got it home to eat there were no fish so I called them and the girl that I was talking with was explaining it to another girl (Theresa), and while I was explaining to her that I had ordered 3 fish but didn't recieve it Theresa called me a liar in Spanish, I guess she didn't understand some people understand Spanish. so needless to say we went back up there to get the fish and was told they didn't charge is for the sides. well why would they it came with the meal. they have us 3 different prices and said they didn't charge us for the fish either (they did). why would they not charge us for the fish or put it in our order of we had ordered it. will not be going back!
Breaking my teeth trying to eat the cold, hours old fish that they just sold me in their drive thru. Rolls , hush puppies, mash potatoes disgusting from being cold and being prepared hours ago, i live in tbe country so its a drive to take it back. I tried calling and got the answer machine each time. I just hope i dont get food poisoning from the little amount i contaminated my body with. $40 later i have nothing but a horrible experience and fear of food poisoning. Not again....
I ordered the 4 piece fish and when I got home ( across the street) the fish was not only cold but old and hard . I will never buy a fish meal there again!
I have been going to the drive through for years and it's been great and the staff was friendly. I went this evening and the girl taking the order told me she would be with me in a minute. It was pouring rain and my car was getting soaked inside so I rolled up my window. She started looking at me so I rolled down the window. She said rudely I'll take your order when you get ready, I told her I had been ready but was getting soaked. She never said thank you so I asked her where the other girls were because she was rude. She said I'm taking the orders and she shut the window while I was talking. I got home and my tenders were crispy and dried out.
I went to this restaurant for the first time I saw a sign said voted best chicken in Athens so I went through ordered the 4 piece chicken tenders I ordered a extra strip and extra gravy and 3 jalapeños I asked the price and the person told me the prices for the extras she even showed me the size of the gravy then a different person gave me the order I got home not only was all the food very cold and tasted old the portions were very small I didn’t get my extra strips not my extra gravy or my jalapeños and the strips I did receive were very small and all that cost me almost 15 dollars which was worth about 5 dollars I will not go back I will not recommend it to anybody and I will tell everybody I know my experience
They have signs talking about “voted best chicken” in 2020-2021 but they have definitely gone down hill fast since then. My wife was not impressed with chicken and my fish was so dry and nasty, it was like a nasty fish jerky. The workers act lazy and the place is old, greasy and nasty. I have been coming here for quite a few years but the owner has apparently just given up. Do not go here, you will not be happy anymore! BUT this seems to be the new normal for many business now days!!! Sorry owner, I hate blasting you like this but it was that bad!
Went through the drive-thru and when I got home my order was completely wrong but they had charged me for what I had ordered but not for what they had gave me. Tried to call but did not get an answer back. Went back up there the next day and was treated rudely when I told them they had gave me the wrong order the day before and was told that they don't even have a phone at their business. Very rude employees working the window.
Kentucky fried chicken is next door to Julio's and that is where I will go from now on. Julio's has gone down hill. The speaker is broken so you have to drive to the window, the lady taking window orders is rude and acts like she would prefer you weren't placing an order at all, the chicken is small and old, they always forget something I order, the list goes on. I only went there for my mother but I told my mother we will be going to Kentucky Fried Chicken from now on and she agreed! What happened to Julio's???? Terrible place to eat now!!!!!!
Very disrespectful needs to be shut down because the people that work here shouldn’t be working here never eat here The chicken is nasty
Worst customer service ive ever experienced, the lady at the drive through was so rude that I had to drive off before even ordering
The two pieces of fish is actually one piece of fish cut in half. The Mac and cheese is disgusting and horrible. The noodles are bland and taste like cardboard and the sauce has absolutely no flavor… besides the cardboard taste. The chicken was awesome. That’s the reason I am happy to accurately give them one star. The roll was cold and was not a honey roll. So as a visitor that visits Athens often… you all will never get a recommendation from me. Also if you pay with car they automatically charge you a fee without your permission. So I got a 8.99 meal and ended up paying 10.04 due to the extra 40 cent charge.
First of all, I waited a long time at the window for them to come take my order. Then when I got my food the chicken taste it and look like it was fried in old oil, it wasn’t good. Plus my side was corn on a cob and it was very slimy and it had a sour smell to it, it was definitely not eatable. This place used to have the best chicken in town, is so sad to see they have gone down hill. I posted a picture of the corn and you can see that slimy water.
