Carnitas El Guero is praised for its juicy and flavorful carnitas, generous portions, and friendly service. The agua fresca, especially the pineapple, cucumber, and lime combination, is a favorite. Karaoke on weekends is a plus. Some find the location less desirable or the bathrooms unclean.

Walk in 5 min before closing. And we got welcome with smiles. Food was really tasty, fresh and served fast. The restaurant is authentic. You feel in Mexico not in Texas no more. So it s a cheap way to travel on top of the rest. Really enjoyed that they closed late (2am). Prices are ok. Very typical place. We ll go back as soon as we have a chance 🙏
Israel Montoya’s karaoke 🎤 is the best from 8pm- 2:00am FRIDAY, SATURDAY, AND SUNDAY. FRIENDLY ENVIRONMENT WE ALSO 💃 💃 🕺
Authentic carnitas and other Mexican staples. We shared a mixed carnitas platter. Meat was moist, salty, with skin and trompas. Quesabirria tacos and consume were above average- rich and savory. Sides, sauces, and drinks were literally perfect. 5 stars for Mexican Coca-Cola. HIGHLY recommended for families, couples... basically EVERYONE.
Recently moved to Austin and in need of some good carnitas. As soon as we walked in, we were greeted. I was very happy with the food but what stood out to me and really made an impression was the aguas frescas we had limonada con pepino (lime and cucumber) and a limonada con pepino y piña (lime, cucumber and pineapple) they are made fresh and per request! My daughter had the quesabirrias, my husband tried the tacos de tripita and we shared the carne asada and carnitas, we also ordered some guacamole. Everything was delicious. The service was great very friendly staff and a clean place.
I had the tacos de chicharrón prensado, lengua and agua de piña/pepino/limon…and wow! So good. I’ll be dreaming of the chicharrón prensando and craving the freshly made agua fresca for weeks. AND the bathrooms are sparkly clean! highly recommend this place if you’re in the neighborhood.
Carnitas El Guero hit the spot this weekend! The caldo de res was flavorful and satisfying, the chicken quesadilla was bursting with filling, and the carnitas tacos were everything you could ask for – perfectly juicy and delicious. But what really impressed me was the friendly service. The lady who took our order was so welcoming and helpful, it made the entire dining experience even better. I'll definitely be back to Carnitas El Guero soon!
Here comes... I told these guys I'm a famous food critic, and upon first impression I was appalled because they did not offer refills on coffee. And I did say that was going to be in the review. So I'm only being honest. I'm an honest restaurant critic. Aside from that it is the most amazing $10 I have ever put into my mouth. Like I eat everywhere at restaurants that are you know, for lack of better words all I can say is full of it. After eating it every four star restaurant Austin I'm going to say that, besides dairy Queen, you will find the best food here at gueros !! Oh here's the main thing, they're open till 2 in the morning!!!!
Listed as one of the top 5 taco places in Austin. Your option to order pork carnitas lean or otherwise. Excellent hot sauces, beer selection and delicious tequila & juice jarito. Huge portion of deliciously flavored juicy pork served with a stack of hot fresh tortillas. Very unassuming location, busy with taco connoisseurs and laborers alike.
This is the type of place that foodies dream about. A place largely unknown unless you know someone tells you about it. This is the kind of place you want to keep a secret for fear that if the word spread to too many people, it wouldn’t be as good or it would run out faster than it already does. This review will be a bit long for the casual reader mainly because the other reviews haven’t really gotten into the details of why this place is so special. Understanding that many people who have posted reviews previously already have an inherent understanding of how carnitas is made, this place is likely par for the course for them. I won’t go into the long details of making Carnitas, but just know it’s a decent bit of time and effort. It’s not something you can just whip up in an hour. It requires practice, expertise, and experience to get it right; this place is incredibly divine and the meat is very porky flavored. The restaurant itself is located inside a gas station. Upon entry, there was a line of five or ten in front of me, all Spanish speakers. I came on a Sunday around 12 and could see why this place sells out on the weekends by 1 or 2. There are a few different options of how you can take your carnitas, but I bought a pound with some sides and took it to go. In truth, I came here to buy salsa because it came highly recommended to me. I am so glad I bought both salsa and carnitas. I spent a few minutes chatting it up with a guy I assume is the chef or main cook. Really nice guy and really great customer service. He allowed me to buy both their salsas and gave me a few extra portions of their onions. Their onions aren’t just diced onions. They are pickled with white vinegar and habanero and salt. Maybe some Mexican oregano. They are a really nice topping for the porky, little fatty morsels of porky goodness that contrasts with the herby cilantro. There are two salsa options, a spicy tomatillo based and a smoky red. Both are insanely good and pretty spicy overall. The green tomatillo is speckled with habenero and is a bit thinner. The red is a thicker, smoky, chipotly with about the same amount of heat. I taste a lot of roasted and smoky pepper undertones. I loved them both and so glad I bought some to take with me. They could easily sell this to hipsters at Whole Foods like Taco Deli does. Absolutely worth it. I cannot say enough about this place. Food was amazing. Service was fantastic. People were friendly. The long line of all Latinos, many of whom I assume were Mexican, is a really good sign. Place is cash only, but there is an ATM inside. I hope this place becomes their own brick and mortar or at least a food truck.
Average tasting tacos. Carnitas lack flavor. Need to add salt, lime, and salsa, to give it a good taste. The meat itself is juice and tener just not seasoned well. The pastor is good. Nice flavor. Would get if you had to come here. The asada also average, ground beef kind of taste. Overall very average and less tasty than I expected. Way better options in Austin for tasty tacos.
Everything was really tasting. 1 agua loca was more than enough to make the rest of my night better! The portions are huge and it’s really cool that they are open till 2 am. It was perfect because we went to have dinner after work! The only thing I didn’t like that much was the music, it’s a little bit too loud but other than that the food was delicious and the service was perfect.
This place is located in a kind of a ghetto area of Austin. It does have decent parking size. The place looks clean inside. I tried to Caldo De Res, who’d was good. I wanted to order a second michelada and it took about 15 minutes for the server to come check on me, even when she saw my cup empty several times. My server was busier filling up salsa containers, instead of checking on the customers, This has been some of the most mediocre service I’ve ever experienced. I CARE MORE ABOUT THE SERVICE, FOOD IS SECOND. I won’t be coming back here.
I came here bcuz someone recommended it,it was NOT what I expected & just a regular experience. 😐😕 Nothing special about this place that I saw or experienced. 🤷♂️ Walked in & used the restroom first....after seeing this disgusting bathroom, I should've walked out. But,I was hungry & decided to give this place a try. 🙃 I like to be flexible & give places a try, but first impressions & results count in my book. 👀 The general layout of this restaurant is odd & look's like a jenga hopscotch put together haphazardly?? Dirty and disorganized location.🫣 Giant potholes in the parking lot & limited spaces is also an eyesore. I ordered the carna asada plate with aqua de horchata. 🍽 The meat had lotsa grizzle & skin left on whatever meat this was? The rice was cold & bean's we're good. The avocado slices was the best thing on this plate🥑🥑🥑🥑🥑🥑🥑🥑🥑 Added plus of having 5 tortillas is nice. 🫓🫓🫓 I was battling the meat to eat it and pulling off the skin while eating this. The $6 Dollar Glass of aqua de horchata is extremely overpriced. Good but NOT Great. Other than the initial order, the waitress never came back after delivery of food. Poor customer service & lack of any followup at all. 🫥🫨🫤 1st Time here & Definitely My Last Time🚫🚷🚫🚷🚫🚷🚫🚷🚫
I was having so much hopes for this place to be good but I was super disappointed for the food that I got. A lot of people recommend me this place & hype it up so much but it’s not worth it spending your money here. I got a beef steck torta and it only had mayo, meat and like 3 small slices of avocado 😭 . My husband got a taco al pastor and the meat taste it so funny. The green salsa is super water down & it has no flavor and it wasn’t even spicy. The red salsa was okay. Overall this place is 6/10. I should have just stick with my tacorrido.
