Ce que disent les clients de Carnitas "El Güero"
Carnitas El Guero is praised for its juicy and flavorful carnitas, generous portions, and friendly service. The agua fresca, especially the pineapple, cucumber, and lime combination, is a favorite. Karaoke on weekends is a plus. Some find the location less desirable or the bathrooms unclean.

Honestly don't even think about it just go and eat there you get a large quantity for a good price they have a meal for two people that's $20 and I don't think that you would finish it I was going to this place when they were inside of a gas station and now they have their own restaurant
Can’t believe this place 😍 … food, service, drinks !!!! Very authentic Mexican place, I can't wait to come back !!!!! You must try it !!! The carnitas taco is out of this world 🤤🤤🤤
The most authentic mexican food I've had since I've been here in Austin. I know I shouldn't but I could eat here every day! Carnitas for those who dont know is a slow cooked pork and takes several hours to make. Served into tacos. Their aguas frescas are made to order!! Natural fruit water..
Delicious food, full bar, late hours, not much more you can ask for.
Yes, I was attracted to the shiny lights. I was drawn in like a month, but I'm glad I tried it. This is a no nonsense taco joint, only a handful of things to choose from, but it was excellent. I loved the Tinga!
I highly recommend the Carnitas tacos 🌮 (not surprising since it is in their name). We will be adding this restaurant to our taco Tuesday list!
I am more famous than the than the gentleman that wrote before me. So my say is of greater importance. The main thing for him was they closed at 2am. But in my professional opinion it was the food ! that brings me to the 5 ⭐️.
Food was on point, and everyone was very nice.
Took home a couple orders of the Libra (DIY carnitas) and it fed a hungry crew of 4 with leftovers for a weekday lunch. Really moist and tender, and the salsas are top notch.
Carnitas are delicious and the order comes with a grilled jalapeño, grilled onion, pickled onion with habanero and some tortillas. Highly recommended.
If you want really authentic Mexican Carnitas and great quality, this is the best place for it. Everything is fresh and cooking perfectly.
I have to add this location, it's a great place to get the best authentic Mexican style of food this North from the lover Valley border with Northern Mexico 🇲🇽 😀 ya can't go wrong with the Aguas frescas made to order! Clean establishment, friendly fast service, perfectly presented dishes with little to no wait time!..Congratulations is in order to the MEN that cooked this food! Can't wait to come back and bring my entire crew. Awesome!!!
Family atmosphere and the best Austin carnitas!!!!! The lemon/cucumber/pineapple water is fantastic and super fresh, and when the temperature rises, you would like to refresh with this. I tried the pozole the second time. SO good. . full of meat and not much of grains. We tried the scope, yum yum. You can choose the protein from carnitas, pastor, asada, and more We are looking to go back.….. Hope they can open another location in Leander or Round Rock, ha, to go more often
The food was great, fresh, hot, tender and flavorful. And generous portions! 3 dinners fed 4 adults for $40. We did take-out but the restaurant was clean and there was a nice outdoor patio. I’ll be a regular.
Excellent carnitas and even better service! The aguas are also really good — definitely tasted fresher than many of the ones I've had around town that I suspect are from the powder mix. Definitely a hidden gem in Southeast Austin. (One note: This isn't the place for you if you don't like pork. They definitely specialize in the one thing they do really well.)
I f's with it good tacos good authenic Mexican food and they have sum good agua Frescas how ever you spell them fruit waters with the bubbles in it Hidden Gem!
Tacos were big and delicious. The pina fresh drinks were the bomb! The chicken quesadilla was so good. Rossy our waiter was so great with exceptional customer service. I highly recommend this place. Muy deliciosos. La mesera Rossy nos atendio muy amamblemente. La comido es muy rico. La agua de pina igual!
You know that saying, “things happen for a reason”, well we stumbled across this restaurant down Lamar Blvd in the North and I couldn’t believe how delicious their food is. My husband and I ordered a pound of carnitas with tacos dorados and pozole, and we were impressed with its presentation. Their carnitas are served along with diced onions (which have a kick of spice, but are the best), cut up cilantro, diced limes, and green and red hot sauce. Their pozole is served with three tostadas, chopped lettuce, sliced radish, onion and cilantro, lime, and chile en aceite. I want to thank Gustavo Reyes who served us today (April 17th), I was impressed with your customer service. He is so energetic, knowledgeable and willing to serve us when needed. Thanks again for this experience, I hope some time in the future we see you in Houston.
Tried the tinga de pollo and it was delicious. No frills but great food. Definitely going back. Every plate I saw looked delicious.
Food was delicious. As always. I usually get delivery but took my parents to eat there and we really enjoyed it. We ordered 2 personal orders of carnitas and an agua fresca.
Came to buy a drink at the gas station and did not expect to find a taco shop inside but the smell convinced me to try it. The gentleman working gave an outstanding service and look forward to coming back when we visit Austin again. Best carnitas tacos I’ve had. Thanks
Love this hole in the wall restaurant. Although I do not speak Spanish, the people were really nice. My girlfriends are latinas and approve of this place. Right after church my husband (gringo 🤣) and I (vietnamese) stopped by for some tacos. It was excellent with the cucumber lemon fresco. We will definately be back. Mucho gracias! P.s You know it's authentic when you walk in and everyone speaks spanish.
Best carnitas in the area. Tacos and dive bar vibes. Great prices and excellent food. The birria quesadillas are a perfect 2 am snack
My husband and I decided to come to Carnitas El Guero for dinner yesterday since it just replaced Buddy’s Mexican Food. Honestly, I’m SO glad they are here. I got the chicharrón with carnitas tacos and they were delicious. We went the same day that all those suspiciously similar reviews about the roaches were posted with somehow no photos with proof. When we went there was no roach in site and no hint of extra roach protein in my tacos. I’m assuming someone had a bad experience and decided to tell all their friends to leave negative reviews on same day (get a hobby). Customer service was great and they made sure we got everything we needed when we got our food at the counter. Will definitely be back!
You know it's authentic Mexican food when you get in and they don't speak much English. Drinks and food came out quickly but food was fresh, hot and delicious. It's a cute lil place, has inside and outside seating (enclosed).
Excellent food! It's some of the tastiest tacos I've had in a while. Would definitely recommend! The wait staff was super nice and we worked through the language barrier.
Wow! Amazing carnitas and great hole in the wall. One of the best pozoles I've ever had. Al Pastor tacos were legit. Item of note, highly recommend knowing at least "some" Spanish or use a phone translator.
Great soft well season carnitas (not the mixed). They make this amazing like water. They make it right when u order it so it tastes so fresh.
5 Stars well-deserved. The food was really good and so was the service. I ordered the Pozole and fresh pineapple juice. And let me tell you it did not disappoint. I like that they put some ingredients on the side. And you choose to add them to your meal or not. While waiting for our food which mind you didn't take too long. an appetizer was brought to our table. And that too was so good. So good in fact that i added it to our order. Great food wonderful service who could ask for any thing more. I would definitely recommend people to stop by and eat at this place. So definitely a big Thank you to the friendly Waiters and thank you to the cook who made the delicious meal.
Best carnitas taco I’ve ever had. A must stop on the taco stand tour. Fantastic.
Certainly the best carnitas in Austin. Very very good.
Very good food and drinks.
On point Mexican tacos, if you want a good meal or even a snack this place will satisfy those needs with their carnitas and juices. Aguas are straight made fresh and blended right in front of you. Personal recommendation pepino with limon
I went late afternoon and there weren’t many people there so not quite sure what the atmosphere is usually like, but the food was legit and the service was good. Best carnitas I’ve had in Austin. Didn’t try the other meats
Quite possibly the best carnitas you're going to get in Austin. Yes, those are loaded words, but hey, I stand by them. These carnitas are good - *real* good. They fall into the category of "do one thing, and do it well", and boy howdy, do they do it well! Note, when ordering, you can get *just* the carnitas, or a mix of stuff - I recommend getting the mix, it's...amazeballs Enjoy!!!
Pleasantly surprised at how good this carnitas are, as a born and raised Mexican, honestly I wasn’t expecting them to be that good, but they past the test indeed, and the sauced were pretty good too, specially the red one Definitely a really good spot to get some pretty good carnitas 👌🏼
It was the closest place and only place that wasn’t a franchise and I was great carnitas were great
Walk in 5 min before closing. And we got welcome with smiles. Food was really tasty, fresh and served fast. The restaurant is authentic. You feel in Mexico not in Texas no more. So it s a cheap way to travel on top of the rest. Really enjoyed that they closed late (2am). Prices are ok. Very typical place. We ll go back as soon as we have a chance 🙏
Israel Montoya’s karaoke 🎤 is the best from 8pm- 2:00am FRIDAY, SATURDAY, AND SUNDAY. FRIENDLY ENVIRONMENT WE ALSO 💃 💃 🕺
Authentic carnitas and other Mexican staples. We shared a mixed carnitas platter. Meat was moist, salty, with skin and trompas. Quesabirria tacos and consume were above average- rich and savory. Sides, sauces, and drinks were literally perfect. 5 stars for Mexican Coca-Cola. HIGHLY recommended for families, couples... basically EVERYONE.
Recently moved to Austin and in need of some good carnitas. As soon as we walked in, we were greeted. I was very happy with the food but what stood out to me and really made an impression was the aguas frescas we had limonada con pepino (lime and cucumber) and a limonada con pepino y piña (lime, cucumber and pineapple) they are made fresh and per request! My daughter had the quesabirrias, my husband tried the tacos de tripita and we shared the carne asada and carnitas, we also ordered some guacamole. Everything was delicious. The service was great very friendly staff and a clean place.
I had the tacos de chicharrón prensado, lengua and agua de piña/pepino/limon…and wow! So good. I’ll be dreaming of the chicharrón prensando and craving the freshly made agua fresca for weeks. AND the bathrooms are sparkly clean! highly recommend this place if you’re in the neighborhood.
Carnitas El Guero hit the spot this weekend! The caldo de res was flavorful and satisfying, the chicken quesadilla was bursting with filling, and the carnitas tacos were everything you could ask for – perfectly juicy and delicious. But what really impressed me was the friendly service. The lady who took our order was so welcoming and helpful, it made the entire dining experience even better. I'll definitely be back to Carnitas El Guero soon!
Here comes... I told these guys I'm a famous food critic, and upon first impression I was appalled because they did not offer refills on coffee. And I did say that was going to be in the review. So I'm only being honest. I'm an honest restaurant critic. Aside from that it is the most amazing $10 I have ever put into my mouth. Like I eat everywhere at restaurants that are you know, for lack of better words all I can say is full of it. After eating it every four star restaurant Austin I'm going to say that, besides dairy Queen, you will find the best food here at gueros !! Oh here's the main thing, they're open till 2 in the morning!!!!
Listed as one of the top 5 taco places in Austin. Your option to order pork carnitas lean or otherwise. Excellent hot sauces, beer selection and delicious tequila & juice jarito. Huge portion of deliciously flavored juicy pork served with a stack of hot fresh tortillas. Very unassuming location, busy with taco connoisseurs and laborers alike.
This is the type of place that foodies dream about. A place largely unknown unless you know someone tells you about it. This is the kind of place you want to keep a secret for fear that if the word spread to too many people, it wouldn’t be as good or it would run out faster than it already does. This review will be a bit long for the casual reader mainly because the other reviews haven’t really gotten into the details of why this place is so special. Understanding that many people who have posted reviews previously already have an inherent understanding of how carnitas is made, this place is likely par for the course for them. I won’t go into the long details of making Carnitas, but just know it’s a decent bit of time and effort. It’s not something you can just whip up in an hour. It requires practice, expertise, and experience to get it right; this place is incredibly divine and the meat is very porky flavored. The restaurant itself is located inside a gas station. Upon entry, there was a line of five or ten in front of me, all Spanish speakers. I came on a Sunday around 12 and could see why this place sells out on the weekends by 1 or 2. There are a few different options of how you can take your carnitas, but I bought a pound with some sides and took it to go. In truth, I came here to buy salsa because it came highly recommended to me. I am so glad I bought both salsa and carnitas. I spent a few minutes chatting it up with a guy I assume is the chef or main cook. Really nice guy and really great customer service. He allowed me to buy both their salsas and gave me a few extra portions of their onions. Their onions aren’t just diced onions. They are pickled with white vinegar and habanero and salt. Maybe some Mexican oregano. They are a really nice topping for the porky, little fatty morsels of porky goodness that contrasts with the herby cilantro. There are two salsa options, a spicy tomatillo based and a smoky red. Both are insanely good and pretty spicy overall. The green tomatillo is speckled with habenero and is a bit thinner. The red is a thicker, smoky, chipotly with about the same amount of heat. I taste a lot of roasted and smoky pepper undertones. I loved them both and so glad I bought some to take with me. They could easily sell this to hipsters at Whole Foods like Taco Deli does. Absolutely worth it. I cannot say enough about this place. Food was amazing. Service was fantastic. People were friendly. The long line of all Latinos, many of whom I assume were Mexican, is a really good sign. Place is cash only, but there is an ATM inside. I hope this place becomes their own brick and mortar or at least a food truck.
The chorizo quesadillas are amazing, generous portions of neat & quality cheese. They only have beer when it comes to adult beverages. The agua Fresca was delicious.
Stopped by here to get out of a rainstorm. The entrance is on the front. There's a side entrance with covered seating, but that is for a separate business. The food selection is not very broad. But, oh my goodness! It is yummy. The Latina who died with me verified the authenticity of this Mexican food. That is to say, you will be disappointed if you are looking for tex-mex. But you will not be disappointed if you are looking for True Mexican food. We had tacos and quesadillas. Portions were reasonably sized and priced
I really like the carnitas here. I always get a pound to go and take it to eat with my coworkers on the job site. Usually at least one of them complains about the food I bring. When I bring carnitas El guero no one has anything negative to say. I highly recommend trying the food here.
Located inside of a gas station but don’t let that fool you. Full on operation here. Definitely good but definitely HEAVY. Personal combo comes with two tacos (tacotes) and one doradito. I think standard is the mixed which includes a bit of everything. Think I’ll go with the leaner one next time but flavors are legit. Salsas check out.
Excellent Flavors and very generous portions. However, lacked in the vegetable department. Needs to add Avocado Slices and or Guacamole and needs fresh Radish. Carnitas have been in family for many Generations. Enjoy
Best carnitas ever, if you're from Mexico you're going to love this place, the truly taste. The service could improve, but nice music and perect for a spending a good time and eat great food.
I had to stop to see what the carnitas were all about and they did not disappoint! They were amazing! I also got a pozole to go and it was the worst I ever had i do not recommend to anyone!
Tacos were good but a little skimpy for the price.
Tried the Carnitas (pork) tacos, they have a mixed option that takes different cuts of pork. Also tried the chorizo tacos, and they are all really good. Great beer options, including some of the best Mexican brands. The place could honestly use some remodeling, though. Friendly staff, decent prices.
Carnita tacos were great! Good service. More like local eatery. Little out of the way. If back in area will go back.
Food was decent. However, the food is a little pricey for the overall atmosphere, taste, and cost.
The staff are fabuloso! And the food, .... OMG! Perfecto! Muy Bien!!! Dos tacos del pork. - How is that for awful Spanish. So sorry! I will.reyurn again and again! The chef is magnifique!!! The food delicioso! Guacamole fabulous! I think $13 for a large portion of guacamole and chips...s o yummy and the best pork tacos EVER. This is authentic Mexican food! No Texmex aqui! Gracious staff! Yep! This Gringa loved it!! 🤠💖🙏
I like the food it's very fresh especially the lemonade, You could really taste the limes and it's very enjoyable, the service here is great, it is quick and the waiters are very nice. The atmosphere here is nice, they play some nice music and it's just very calm here, I highly recommend this place.
Average tasting tacos. Carnitas lack flavor. Need to add salt, lime, and salsa, to give it a good taste. The meat itself is juice and tener just not seasoned well. The pastor is good. Nice flavor. Would get if you had to come here. The asada also average, ground beef kind of taste. Overall very average and less tasty than I expected. Way better options in Austin for tasty tacos.
Everything was really tasting. 1 agua loca was more than enough to make the rest of my night better! The portions are huge and it’s really cool that they are open till 2 am. It was perfect because we went to have dinner after work! The only thing I didn’t like that much was the music, it’s a little bit too loud but other than that the food was delicious and the service was perfect.
The drinks & the salsas are good. However, I am not impressed at all with the food. The carnita is soggy & the doraditas are so hard & tough over fried. We probably won't be going back.
Solidly ok tacos. The carnitas were good, they would have been even better if they were crisped up a bit. I ordered the one person personal plate which came with 1/2 lb of carnitas, about 6 corn tortillas, some pickled onions, cilantro, three lime wedges and a fried taco. The fried taco was not great. It tasted a bit old and stale. Carnitas were good, tortillas were ok. There was not nearly enough onions, cilantro and limes. These were fine, nothing spectacular, nothing I would crave when I want carnitas.
Overall place was alright. New to the area and was pretty much the only place I found dedicated to carnitas. Only wanted an order or carnitas and cueritos but seems they only offer options with additional items including tortillas, which did not need. EVERYTHING was place within the same box and pretty sure because of this there was way less of the actual lbs ordered of meat. Will give a shout out to the service though nice, attentive, and respectful employees.
This place is located in a kind of a ghetto area of Austin. It does have decent parking size. The place looks clean inside. I tried to Caldo De Res, who’d was good. I wanted to order a second michelada and it took about 15 minutes for the server to come check on me, even when she saw my cup empty several times. My server was busier filling up salsa containers, instead of checking on the customers, This has been some of the most mediocre service I’ve ever experienced. I CARE MORE ABOUT THE SERVICE, FOOD IS SECOND. I won’t be coming back here.
I came here bcuz someone recommended it,it was NOT what I expected & just a regular experience. 😐😕 Nothing special about this place that I saw or experienced. 🤷♂️ Walked in & used the restroom first....after seeing this disgusting bathroom, I should've walked out. But,I was hungry & decided to give this place a try. 🙃 I like to be flexible & give places a try, but first impressions & results count in my book. 👀 The general layout of this restaurant is odd & look's like a jenga hopscotch put together haphazardly?? Dirty and disorganized location.🫣 Giant potholes in the parking lot & limited spaces is also an eyesore. I ordered the carna asada plate with aqua de horchata. 🍽 The meat had lotsa grizzle & skin left on whatever meat this was? The rice was cold & bean's we're good. The avocado slices was the best thing on this plate🥑🥑🥑🥑🥑🥑🥑🥑🥑 Added plus of having 5 tortillas is nice. 🫓🫓🫓 I was battling the meat to eat it and pulling off the skin while eating this. The $6 Dollar Glass of aqua de horchata is extremely overpriced. Good but NOT Great. Other than the initial order, the waitress never came back after delivery of food. Poor customer service & lack of any followup at all. 🫥🫨🫤 1st Time here & Definitely My Last Time🚫🚷🚫🚷🚫🚷🚫🚷🚫
I went to Carnitas El Güero in North Lamar because it was highly recommended by many people from a private Facebook group I belong to. I ordered ONE cheese quesadilla, ONE assorted carnitas taco, and ONE chicken tostada and ONE diet coke. The cost? $30 DOLLARS!!!!! When I asked for the manager to ask why I was paying so much money for FOUR food items, a shaved head man with mustache who was inside the kitchen came out and he told me: "IF YOU WANT CHEAP FOOD YOU NEED TO GO TO MCDONALD'S". Then I asked for my money back, and he said: "I WON'T GIVE YOU YOUR MONEY BACK!" I asked for his name and refused to provide it. They steal your money at this place. This is one of the most expensive food I have ever paid in my life, and the worst customer service ever, and it seems I'm not the only one complaining for their excessive prices, but their reaction to comments like this one is excessively rude.
Per my Mexican family this carnitas taste only “hervidas” (just boiled)-lack seasoning, taste and color. This order was received via door dash, perhaps you serve restaurant patrons better food. Cooking carnitas is an art and am sure the Austin crowd regardless of place of origin know the difference.
$3.49 a taco was seved 3 beef and one pork mediocre tacos at best, service was awesome, waitress was sweeping the floor at my area kicking up dirt, not good. It a ok place, but not what you would expect at the prices, salsa was old, water down, bland. Tortilla was simple and market lower shelf quality. I dont post negative comments, but this place needs to bring up the game.
Terrible Carnitas. Dry and garlicky. Ran out of almost everything by 1pm, truck was not clean. We found a hair and a piece of yellow plastic in our food. Two family members got sick. Overall I’d recommend staying away Note: this is for Rundberg location.
When this place first opened it was real good. The meat was fresh. We went 4 months after opening and there were no cars i thought they were closed. I got dry old meat cold tortillas. Gave me asco .. no shade tho hope yall got better.
This place stiffed a famous competitive eater that they reached out to for a food challenge they had. He still graciously released the video and said nothing but good things about the food despite the dead beat owner not honoring their contract. Pay Joel Hansen I was interested in eating here till I read how you treated Joel.
I Personally Don't Eat Here (My Mom Does). So I Did Her The Favor Of Stopping By To Get Her Some Food. Waited About 15 Minutes For The Food. Afterwards My Mom Had Called And Asked If I Could Get Her A Side Of Avocado. Me Trying To Please My Mom To Make Sure She Enjoys Her Meal. I Went To The Register And Asked How Much It Was For A Side Of Avocado. A Women Behind The Register Grabbed The Menu Pointed Towards Where The Pricing To The Avocado Was. 2.99. I Pulled Out $4 To Have In Hand For When They Ask For Payment. A Second Lady Came Asked What I Wanted I Repeated "A Side Of Avocado". She Wrote It Down On A Receipt As If To Take The Order Down For A Side Of Avocado. After That I Was Completely Ignored. There Were At Least 3-5 Women "Working". Or So They Made It Seem. They Went On About What They Were Doing (They'd Stop, I Guess To See If I Was Still There Waiting). Then Proceeded "To Work". I Was Obviously Getting Upset. What Was So Difficult With Getting A Side Of Avocado??! I Left. Worst Service Ever. Honestly Don't Plan On Coming Back.
I’m being on that place a several on the past and today I work close to that location and was really bad We see a small roach we let the waitress know and tell her to get rid off the roach she tried but no success We tell the cashier and she looks like she doesn’t care I don’t try to get a free food We just want to head and apologize and tell us they going to take care Please if you are the owner Take care your place Because I really like the carnitas Thank you 🙏
Service was pretty much to the point. Can’t say it was good or bad. Food was not what I expected, I ordered a sope, portion was big and floppy. Presentation was hideous as it covered my whole To-go plate. Salsa was like colored water, super runny and watered down. Al pastor meat tasted di
This was my fourth time at this establishment and my wife ordered Asada platter and ended up with Pork. OK. We finished and went to pay with our CC and they said it didn't take in their system. Yet we knew it did, because our CC company notifies us when we make charge. Ok, they still said that it didn't take, and we paid cash. We verified with our CC company and Yes, it was charged. My wife went back to get refund and they tried to argue, but we had a receipt from before and the CC charge. I would recommend anyone stay away.
I was having so much hopes for this place to be good but I was super disappointed for the food that I got. A lot of people recommend me this place & hype it up so much but it’s not worth it spending your money here. I got a beef steck torta and it only had mayo, meat and like 3 small slices of avocado 😭 . My husband got a taco al pastor and the meat taste it so funny. The green salsa is super water down & it has no flavor and it wasn’t even spicy. The red salsa was okay. Overall this place is 6/10. I should have just stick with my tacorrido.
