Opinions de Chuy's Austin
Where it really shines is the staff, who are kind, energetic, and most attentive. No attitude, just smiles! This place is well-run. The food is good, and so are the prices. I had a mixed combo with the green spicy sauce. I shall definitely return—and I think along the Barton Springs strip, this is among the best.
Dined at the bar, initial service took a little while to get moving, but it picked up significantly after that. The bar has a great vibe with plenty of regulars, and the banter between them and the staff makes for a fun atmosphere. Most importantly: the food was hot, fresh, and delicious. I ordered to go yesterday and the meal was just as good—consistency for the win! It’s rare to find a spot that hits the mark both in-person and for takeout.
This original Chuy’s location is such a unique place. The food is fabulous. The ambiance is so Austintacious and fun! I had a relaxing long lunch here last Thursday with my bro. It was a great place to catch up and just chill. Our waitress, Ana, was just delightful! She was one of the most pleasant servers I’ve had in quite a long time. It’s always special to have a genuine person as your server. You can tell when they are just going through the motions, and this was far from the case with Ana. I don’t get together with my brother that often since I live about an hour away from here, so it’s always a good time, and Ana made it even more fun. We were so glad we decided to have our rendezvous here! ¡Muchas gracias, Ana!
The best Mexican food, and right next to the park. The decor is classic maximalism, and so fun. I wish we could have visited at night, I'm sure it's awesome. It was busy as soon as they opened for lunch, be sure to get a reservation.
I grew up in Austin and only went to Chuy's maybe once. Maybe it's because they don't have outside seating? I know, it makes no sense. All I remembered was their crack ranch sauce or something. Anyway, this year changed all that. I opened my heart to Chuy's and never looked back. I appreciate that they offer several delicious vegetarian options that you can basically make however you like. The combo of rice and different sauces and beans is phenomenal.
Really impressed with the food here. Chuy’s was highly recommended and I wasn’t sure it would meet the hype given I am not a huge tex mex fan. HOWEVER, the food was really delicious, portions big and prices very reasonable. A few extra sauces were provided free of charge to our meal which was appreciated. A knock is the bathroom situation is lacking (1 urinal and 1 toilet for a packed MEXICAN food restaurant?) but luckily I didn’t need to go and was just washing my hands to eat the complementary chips.
Just came in for the first time and was helped by the absolute nicest guy I think I have ever met. His name was Owen, and he genuinely made the whole experience. The food was okay, and I am not usually a big Mexican food fan, but honestly, Owen more than made up for it. His kindness and energy completely elevated the visit.
This is an amazing place. It's the original Chuy's location that has been there since 1982! There's a bunch of different dining rooms plus outdoor tables and a bar area. The staff are great and very friendly and helpful. Prices are not unreasonable and the food is very good. All in all it was a very good experience for my first time eating tex/mex food.
We’ve been fans of Chuy’s for quite awhile, so finally making it to the original location was pretty exciting. At this location, the food was great. Service was lacking, but the atmosphere and food made up for it. Would recommend to visiting this location to any Chuy’s fan, or anyone who enjoys good Tex-mex in general.
This was my first time to eat at a Chuy's. I've heard a lot about them. I live in Abilene, Tx and we are getting one. Turns out this is their FIRST location. The place has tons of character. It was a super busy Saturday night during football season. We rode our motorcycles to the place which was nuts at 9PM!!! The steak and green chili burrito was the BEST burrito I have ever had in my life. The flavor was amazing. Our waitress was excellent and visited a little with us. All four of us had fantastic meals and totally worth the 30 minute wait. You will not regret a meal at Chuy's!!!
Chuy’s is AMAZING. We were frantically searching for a last minute option after our first choice restaurant was full at 6 on a Saturday night, and not only did Chuy’s seat us quickly, they also managed to get all nine of us close together by seating us at adjacent tables! The food and service is impeccable. I ordered the chicken tortilla soup and taco salad, and let me just say, if you’re looking for a healthy, filling, and yet incredibly delicious meal, this is for you. The excellent creamy jalapeño sauce on top really brought it together. Love Chuy’s. Could not recommend more!
Chuy’s – Tex-Mex That Hits All the Right Notes Tex-Mex done right! From the moment I took a sip of my large margarita, I knew I was in for a treat. The flavors took me straight back to my childhood—comforting, bold, and just the right kind of nostalgic. I had the King’s Memorial Combo, and it was incredible in both taste and value. Chuy’s nails it with great food, fun vibes, and spot-on pricing. Highly recommend if you’re craving classic Tex-Mex with flavor that delivers.
Chuy’s is a Tex-Mex haven that delivers bold flavors and a vibrant atmosphere in equal measure. From the moment you walk in, the quirky, fun decor sets the tone for a dining experience that’s anything but ordinary. The menu is packed with Tex-Mex classics, from their famous enchiladas to the perfectly grilled fajitas, all served with generous portions and a fresh twist. Don’t miss out on their creamy jalapeño dip - it’s the stuff of legends! Service at Chuy’s is always friendly and upbeat, making it a great spot for a casual night out with friends or family. Whether you’re a Tex-Mex aficionado or new to the cuisine, Chuy’s makes sure you leave full, happy, and eager to come back for more.

I have been to the other branch of this restaurant many times. Both restaurants are great in terms of service and atmosphere.

Great delicious food. I had a bean and cheese burrito with a medium housemate sauce and it was great. They offer both indoor seating and patio seating. The staff are wonderful
You have to order a margarita to accompany your meal. The service is excellent, always young and friendly people willing to make you have a good time with good food. The fajitas are the best!!

Came for a late lunch. The queso was amazing. My food was also great. The fajitas were edible, not the best. The server could have been more attentive as they were not extremely busy..
Seattle tourist here! Went with a local because it’s a good spot to get your generic Tex Mex fix while in Austin but not much else. The Margarita with a Tajin rim was amazing. The Queso Compuesto dip was pretty addicting. I dont know why I got the taquitos but they were forgettable (I didn’t even take a pic). The server was lovely and helpful with their house sauces recommendation. I just wanted a hot sauce but they don’t have that
Chuy’s is yum! However, we deducted a star because I tried calling them *many* times to let them know they could package all of these fajitas together catering-style to save packaging, but no one at the store answered the phone. Also they didn’t label the veggie dish for our vegetarian so he had little to eat. Need better communication!
Chewy's is tasty. I'd admit that. However, I was a bit disappointed in what I observed at tonight's order. It's obvious they put the enchilada in the aluminum container and then heated it from there …
Strong margarita, complimentary chips, incredible fajitas which come in a huge portion, what else you want

Really nice tex-mex food and the portions were huge. But as the 3 of us concluded - tex-mex just doesnt get to earn a 5 rating. Service is good and the place has a good atmosphere

It was my first time trying here. I got their chicka chicka boom boom enchiladas. The sauce was nice. I didn’t enjoy it that much. One of my friends mentioned that the tres leches from Chuy’s is the best one he tried in Austin. I did get their tres leches and I loved it!! The outdoor seating is great!
Food was good but they got our order wrong (ordered a steak burrito, billed for a steak burrito, received a chicken burrito) and service was slow. At this point we were so hungry we ate what they brought. Waitress was great. No mojito mix, long wait for a table even though we had reservations. Green sauce is the best part.
I have ordered takeout from this location and enjoyed it; however, I cannot recommend this restaurant for dining in. We ordered drinks and queso and ended up ordering nothing else due to the poor q…

Good service, just average food, pre cooked chicken fajitas taco was not served warm. Only refried beans while most offer black beans or charo beans. Place needs serious updating.
The food was mostly okay, the chicken quesadillas were great, but don't ask for fajitas , they're insanely expensive for the quantity. We asked fajitas for two and paid almost 40$ for that dish alone but it was less food than in o other restaurants fajitas for 1 (for less than half the price)
Awful experience at the Barton Springs location! \nWe were seated and it took 5 minutes for ANYONE to acknowledge we needed to put in our drink order. A young gentleman brought chips and salsa to o…

That Chuy's Charm: A Local's Reassessment
You know Chuy's. It's one of those Austin institutions that’s just… always there. For some of us who grew up here, it might have been a place we visited once or twice, perhaps even took for granted. I’ll admit, for a while, I was in that camp, perhaps too focused on other spots. But lately, I’ve had a change of heart, and let me tell you, Chuy's truly delivers on that classic Tex-Mex comfort we sometimes forget we need.Walk in, and you’re immediately greeted with that lively, packed energy –...
