Opinions de Kanji Ramen Austin
Had a great experience here! The ramen was excellent and appetizers were just as good. We tried shrimp tempura and takoyaki, and both were delicious. The signature Kanji ramen 🍜 was very flavorful and really stood out. The server was attentive and welcoming, and the cozy ambiance made the whole meal even more enjoyable. Decent prices comared to other ramen spots around. Definitely a spot worth coming back to!
This is the best ramen place I have had in Austin. From the Brussels sprouts to the ramen, it was all delicious. I got their veggie ramen and the tofu was marinated which usually doesn’t happen, it was a pleasant surprise. My fiancé got the Kanji signature ramen and he said that the broth is really good, the ingredients are so fresh. Best part is that because the ingredients are so fresh, and they don’t use dairy to make the broths creamier, you don’t feel bloated. We will definitely be going back!!
Y'all the tonkatsu ramen was so good I literally started crying fat tears and I had to lock in to finish. This is a must-stop place. Only $15 for the bowl. Great service, i did go when it was slow but it was good. SUPER clean atmosphere would be GREAT for a date, our server Suran was so attentive and helpful in choosing what I would like from the menu. I felt welcome, I didn't feel like an encumberance like I do at a lot of restaurants nowadays.
I got a Ramen Bowl and it was simply delicious. Additionally, the atmosphere was incredible and our server was so sweet, accommodating, and very relatable! At one point, I asked "Between 1-5, how spicy is this?", he said "6", My FACE as I said "Out of 5?!" was just the picture of SHOCK, he said "Oh! I'm used to people saying out of 10!" and we all laughed so hard.
Very cute and cozy! We got their agedashi tofu, katsu curry, and don katsu chicken. All of it was really good and hit the spot on a chilly winter day.
I’m not usually a big fan of ramen, but the ramen here completely changed my mind! The place is small and cozy, giving it a warm and welcoming vibe. The food was absolutely delicious — the broth was rich and flavorful, the noodles perfectly cooked, and the toppings fresh and balanced. The mushroom salad was amazing, the Shumai dumplings were spot on, and the Takoyaki was absolutely mind-blowing. I’ll definitely be coming back for more!
We hadn’t gone in a while, still amazing! Perfect pork broth, excellent spicy miso, great classic, takoyaki perfect. We met the new owners, so nice and polite, we have a 6-year old and he was really sweet to him.
We had a wonderful time at this restaurant. The place was clean and well-maintained, creating a welcoming atmosphere right from the start. The staff were friendly, attentive, and made us feel right at home. The food was delicious, and the menu offered a wide variety of options to choose from.Overall, it's a fantastic experience. We’ll definitely be back!
Best ramen I have had in my life. The broth is subtle, which accentuates the sweet flavor of the noodles. Adding a spice bomb enhances the flavor to be the full package. The meat is tender and has a deep flavor. I definitely recommend their kanji signature or tonkatsu, with spice bomb. 10/10 would recommend!!!
It was great! I normally get the signature ramen. I enjoy how flavorful the broth is and how firm the noodles are. I love that the Tonkatsu pork portions are generous. The bamboo shoots add a nice tanginess to the rich noodles. Came here for lunch on a Wednesday and the place was empty. I was feeling terrible and stressed from work so it was nice having the restaurant to my self and a delicious and calming bowl of ramen. I felt cured after my meal. Note, this place is busier on weekends and at so be prepared.
Food:5/5 I love their popcorn chicken(very tasty) and tonkotsu, mukurai, and signature ramen was good. Drink: 5/5 whiskey sour was very different and I love this version a lot. Service:5/5 They are very attentive. All our order came very quick. Restroom was very clean. Atmosphere: 5/5 I love how serene this place was. Will be here again and again especially for mukurai (spicy) ramen. Parking: free and plenty
Quaint little ramen shop, very cozy. Food was delicious and the service was top notch. Our server suggested their specials and thats what we ordered. The tonkotsu broth in the ramen was absolutely delicious and well seasoned. We ordered popcorn chicken, spicy miso ramen, tonkotsu ramen, shumai, shrimp tempura roll and chicken katsudon for the group and devoured everything. Will definitely make it our regular Japanese spot!
Really great little ramen spot run by a friendly family. The tonkotsu had a deep, unique flavor—something a bit different in a good way. I got the chasudon, and the pork was super juicy and flavorful. Definitely comfort food. The popcorn chicken, a twist on karaage, was a fun surprise—crispy, bite-sized, and really tasty.. Friendly service and cozy vibe. They also have outdoor seating if you ask, which was a nice touch. Will definitely be coming back!
I’m a big ramen fan and have been visiting this place for years. After trying all the ramen spots in Austin, I can confidently say this is the best I’ve had. Recently, the restaurant changed ownership—the previous owner sold the business and retired. However, the quality of the food has remained just as great. I’ve even noticed some improvements under the new owner, like fresh paint on the chairs and an adjusted layout.
If you want to try one of the best ramen place in Austin then Kanji Ramen is THE ONE to visit! I have been here many times and never been disappointed. The food, environment and overall vibes is absolutely amazing! Some of the new additions on the menu such as Shumai and Popcorn chicken are must try! I absolutely loved the Spicy Veggie Ramen too! Had an amazing time and will be visiting again! Food - 5 star Service - 5 star Environment - 5 star
Went around 7-8pm and it wasn’t too busy! The service was amazing! The cashier was also the one who brought us our food and checked on us to make sure everything was okay and good. Food was DELICIOUS and fresh! Seaweed salad was so yummy. Will definitely come back. So glad we found this place!😭💗 I got the spicy kpop ramen. Finished it completely ❤️
Positives: pleasant staff; quiet restaurant setting; fair-to-large servings; local option super convenient to 183. Just 'liked' it because of odd/off flavors with relatively thinner broth, and prices that were a couple bucks higher than others at comparable quality.
Good attentive service. The Brussel Sprouts were really good. But the fried chicken was appetizer was not great. And the vegan Ramen needed more flavor and salt but not bad.
Placed a to go order for the spicy miso ramen. Received my meal within 5 mins. Service was quick and friendly. Food was not good at all. Miso had zero flavor but a hint of sweetness? Broth had no depth or anything to it. Honestly it wasn’t bad bad but it was disappointing.
We must have come on an off day, all the comments talking about it being so flavorful and their favorite place sold us to drive 45 minutes to come here. Our normal ramen place was closed and I wanted to take my husband out to lunch for his birthday. I’ll start with all the great things, first, service was top notch! The man working was kind, attentive and very helpful. The yuzu whiskey sour was phenomenal, and it’s now one of my favorite drinks. The restaurant was extremely clean, I always look for dust on ceiling fans and vents, not a speck in sight. The only thing lacking was the flavor, the ramen broth hardly tasted like anything, I got a spicy bomb for mine and it was neither spicy or flavorful. If they were closer, I’d come back to give them another chance, the drink alone would be worth it, but it just isn’t worth the drive.
Ordered Shoyu Ramen with chicken and spicy bomb and chicken Katsu Don. Soup tasted average where chicken pieces doesn’t have any salt or flavor. Ramen is fine but soup is more with less Ramen. However, Chicken Katsu is great with fried chicken and rice underneath with egg flavor. Service is good and ambience is decent.
This used to be owned by a Japanese man with counter service, this is no longer the case and it doesn’t have the same appeal it used to for me. Very generic, manufactured American ramen shop now that always smells like some kind of cleaning ingredient Edit: I have tried the current menu on other occasions, this isn’t my first visit under the new ownership. They are right I didn’t order food this time, because the smell was really strong and I couldn’t ignore it, so we walked out. Wish them the best, but this spot is no longer Japanese-owned and isn’t for me anymore.
