Opinions de La Palapa Austin
I came here for the first time with my cousins and it was a GREAT time. We didn’t order food this time due to how late we arrived, but we’ll be back for sure to try it. We sat at the bar and Daniela provided the best service. We might’ve been loud, but others were as well if not louder and she didn’t mind it. We had the Purple Margarita (So GOOD and will get you LIT) and a few shots: personally had the chamoy one without the Tabasco. The place was nice and felt inviting. Service was top tier as they were very attentive to our wants and needs.
Good drinks and affordable. Chill vibes for happy hour. The food is just okay get large portions.
Today, August 6, 2024 3:50 pm was our first visit to this beautiful restaurant. What a beautiful experience, the atmosphere, the attention of the waitress, the portions of the food, excellent flavor. I recommend this place a million times. Reasonable prices. We are from California and we were delighted with this restaurant. We will return soon……. I've never given 5 stars but this restaurant deserves a good job La Palapa 💪
We stopped in for late night food because we did not have a lot of options and were nearby headed home. Our server was super friendly and informative about the menu. The burger was crazy huge and great according to my friend who ordered. They told us that the owner also owns short stop and is a huge burger lover so that's why they have this on the menu. Very unusual for a mexican spot but I like it! We also got the flaming queso with chorizo which is always cool just to have at the table. I got the tortilla soup. It was simple and great. Overall, would go again when we're in the area.
The place looks sketchy but the food and drinks and service is amazing….. sat at the with Daniela first time at the restaurant and her taking care us … came back and she remember what we drank and ate since then she made us feel welcome … since then we knew this was going to be our new to go spot , not just her all the staff are friendly as well ! If you seat at the bar or a table the staff food and drinks are good !!!
This place is a wonderful choice. The portion sizes are just as good as the food. The service is extremely fast, and the margaritas plentiful. Not to be overshadowed, the cantina in the back of the restaurant is cozy and very fun on karaoke nights. If you are really hungry, then this is the restaurant for you.
This is TRUE QUALITY Mexican Restaurant and Cantina. I preferred a chimichanga. The meat was juicy, hot, and thoroughly cooked well. The rice is perfect! Beans perfect! We were quickly seated and quickly seen my our waiter. Waiter was very easy going to talk to and customer service at its excellence. Food arrived and arrived hot. Serving amount was plenty with our meals and I’m leaving this place extremely satisfied and well fed. If you’re visiting Austin or you just live here. This is one of the best quality Mexican restaurants I can say I’ve been to in my entire life. Highly recommended for parties as well.
Very tasty dishes, and I love their salsa - just enough spice and fresh. The meat was tender and well seasoned, and the portion was satisfying. Will return!
This is a popular place for the investigators that I work with. They love the large number of choices on the menu, the quality of food and the excellent service. A friend of mine said it's a really fun place at night. She's done karaoke there. I had the fajita nachos, chicken and beef. They were great.
Food was great and our server matched it, great personality and sense of humor. Found this little gem after flying in from Denver with a 3 hour delay.. the Marg was tasty as well!

The staff at this restaurant are very kind and friendly and that goes a long way with me, especially nowadays because people seem more uncomfortable being nice but this restaurant is great. The food is very very good and the I gotta shout out their margaritas, they are extremely good and not that expensive either. Easily my favorite Mexican restaurant in my area of Austin Texas. Come here a few times a month and I recommend this place to anyone to try them out!!
I came for dinner. The food was delicious and the staff was nice. The parking could be a hit or miss.
Everything is good here. The food, the margaritas and the service. It’s my favorite place and it’s my kid’s favorite place as well! I highly recommend.

This was my first time eating here, and the food was great. I am looking forward to visiting again. I really enjoyed the burrito. The nachos are a great choice also.

This place has really changed since the karaoke days! I had the fajitas for one, and a Mexican martini. The fajitas were good, but a bit heavy on the sauteed onion and bell pepper. (I'm not a fan.) The MM was tasty, comes in a small shaker. It could have used a bit more alcohol, but I won't complain.

Fajitas and Margarita were great, service could have been better. After the waitress/server dropped off the food, she never came back except to drop off the check. I had gone in thinking I'd have at least 2 Margaritas, only had one.

Not the best experience but I would be willing to give them another shot. We had a team lunch so there were eight of us. There was another table with a larger party. I only saw one server so not sure what was going on. Food looked great but the temperature and flavor were lacking. I'm hoping that this was just a random bad day (we all have them) so I don't want to rule them completely out.
The food was decent. However, the service was slow and had to wave the waitress down several times for things like silverware, chips, and the check.
I wanted to like this place, I haven't been in over 10 years. But I was in the area and hungy. Unfortunately I was disappointed. I ordered a simple 4 tacos. 2 bacon egg and cheese, and 2 bean egg and cheese. See photo. The order was almost half right. No beans in my taco? And one of my bacon had a piece of green, not sure what it is. But that tells me they are not keeping their grill clean. And it wasnt busy so no way they were making a ton of orders. I almost gave them one star but at least my tacos were hot and cooked right.
Well, appetizer was cold, carne ranchero ordered beef medium served well done but got chicken first? , no silverware with food either, once appetizer was returned no ranch on plate, 4 tiny pieces of bell pepper on the plate and a mass of onions, ranchero beans are good, had to ask for refills on drinks so Austin’s best “NO” Lastly, no manager came to the table, I asked for a manager at the host stand and a very nice young lady came up to the front and started making excuses. I was done and left with no discount for the errors or even the offer of a free appetizer if I returned. I wanted to love this place but I don’t.

Found stuff that comes from their tortilla soup in the nachos. It was onions too. We’ve had the nachos a few times and they was good in the past. Then it was oily at the bottom of the noodles. We bought two and there was barely cheese on them. Real fry. We will not return, was going twice a week. Disappointing.
We ordered food to go today and it was absolutely disgusting! I specifically requested NO onions on two of the plates and they were filled with onions. Each plate of food was bland! I’m questioning if the cook is allergic to seasonings! This place is a complete waste of money!
If I could rate a 0 I would. The service was absolutely horrible. The server was unprofessional and so argumentative when simply requesting how we wanted our order made. There was so many workers but yet we had to keep asking for refills for our salsa, drink and chips. The food was horrible. When asking one of the workers for more hot sauce, she just looked and stared at my uncle, he asked her again and she continued to stare. I helped and said Salsa and she still looked like she was looking into space and we asked again, no response and she finally went to the back to bring out more Salsa. We were a party of 9 and they brought out our plates two at a time and 5-10 minutes between each one. We wanted to eat together but some finished their food before any other family members received their food because of course we didn’t want to wait and eat cold food so those of us that received our plates sooner ate it. I did enjoy my fajita taco, although it was a little burnt, but everything else was horrible. The enchiladas were not authentic. The sauce was made with Wolf Brand Chili, so it didn’t even taste like enchiladas. The music and yelling in the bar area carried over to the other side of the restaurant and it made hearing difficult with the people in my party. All in all, horrible service and all the employees acted like they haven’t been in the hospitality industry and had no experience in customer service. This was my first time here and definitely will be my last.
