Opinions de Magnolia Cafe Austin
I was very impressed with the donuts and interior design of this Bakery. I highly recommend the pistachio cannoli and any of the specialty items that they rotate. They also have some very cool latte flavors.
I have not had a chance to visit this place physically but I have ordered DoorDash from here and I am so impressed! The pastries were beautifully presented, tasted amazing and the portion sizes were huge! I got a variety of different ones and Ughhh these donuts were just amazing! I can’t wait to visit the place.
The donuts are sooo good! Cameron and Chase are awesome! They always take care of me and my family! They always have a smile on their faces and are super friendly. I definitely recommend this place!
I just had to come on here let y’all know about the amazing experience we had on Thursday! It was our first time in, and the customer service was picture perfect. Whoever was working around 11-12pm was SO kind, I’m so sorry I can’t remember their name. They must’ve answered a bazillion questions and were so so amazing. Def will be going back because the donuts were fantastic as well!
The Brown Butter donut is cakey and decadent. 👌🏾 The bits of salt on some of the donuts brought out some great flavour. Everyone enjoyed their drinks, they were all well made. The baristas were also very friendly, and offered some recommendations to us on other coffee in town they like when I asked. I love the selection of donuts. There is a mix of bold and sugary, and more dough forward and subtle cream topping as well. For example I found the Horchata donut way too sugary for me, but the Churros and plain glazed were more to my taste. The restaurant itself is clean and comfortable. There's a self serve water tap and glasses to stay hydrated and cleanse the palette from the decadence. The staff is friendly. Good vibes ☀️
The donuts were so incredibly I had them two days in a row on a family trip to Austin. Highlights were the cragel, cereal milk latte and horchata donuts. Staff was super friendly and the atmosphere was great. 10/10 recommend for anyone who visits Austin.
Yum! We’re loving the Salty for our office breakfasts. Delish fresh sweet & savory options as well as very friendly, efficient service from young lady up front this morning 2/19. Recommend!
I can't put into words how much I liked these donuts ! My favourite ones : horchata, pistachio cannoli donut and butterscotch crunch ! The only downside was that the donut holes were a bit dry.
I am so impressed with this donut shop it’s so much variety and it’s fresh real ingredients and they have gluten free options. But was so helpful !! And the cortado amazing 🤩
No matter where you are staying in the Austin area please make a trip to the salty donut. We were staying at the line hotel and it was about a 30 minute walk down Congress. Even though it was June in Texas heat, it was worth the walk. This is literally the best donut I have ever eaten. My son got two churro donuts for his birthday. My other kid, the picky kid, just got a regular glazed donut. I indulge in a cheesecake donut and it was magnificent. There's also a gourmet coffee stand. Super cute café fun vibe, just on the edge of town. I promise if you have donuts, this will be worth every minute of your trip.
There is parking! Hurrah. There are a few limited spots in front of the store and additional little lot in the back for parking. There is also access to street parking close by. This is a big store location! They have all the donuts. I went here specifically for a limited edition and they still had them available (it was bubble gum) in the evening (around 5PM). Though I didn't love the limited edition flavor the donut itself was amazingly fresh and delicious. I love how creative and flavorful all the donuts are at The Salty and can't wait to try anything new they come up with.
These donuts are really tasty and they have some creative flavors. I've never had a bad experience here. The drinks are also really good. It's on South Congress, so it's a bit of a hassle with the parking, but it's totally worth it. It's a great place to bring your friends and explore the area.
Free gel cleanser from Summer Friday with cloud dew donut purchase- I love this type of promo! So cute :) I come to the salty almost every other day bc they have amazing cold brew and fill it up all the way even if you ask for no ice (unlike coffee shops like desnudo that only fill it up half way) and I really appreciate that. Pistachio cannoli donut and gluten free chocolate chip donuts are the best, probably the best donuts I ever ate actually. Shout out to the salty you guys are the best please don’t change 🫶🏼 kind people working there 💝
Crowded spot because it’s delicious! Any time a head boss is coming into the office, we order from here and it quite literally sweetens them up! Works like a charm! 😋😉
Phenomenal place! Don't have to worry about parking if its slower since they have a small parkinglot next to the building, which was already a treat. Then when we got in, the people were extremely nice and quick with their service! I ordered the Queso & Chips & Salsa, and was baffled by how much queso they gave when most places would give you only half that amount. And it was so good! My sister and I kept joking how we should stop eating it so we had room for our entrees but just couldn't put down the chips. Then for the entrees, she got the croissantwich, which with the jam was so freaking good. I got the voodoo burger (which I included a picture of) which was so mouth wateringly good. It wasnt too spicy and just had a small kick due to the spices. After the meal, my sister and I absolutely agreed to go back since everything was awesome.
Vibe is what Austin used to feel like about a decade ago: eclectic, unserious, fun, and quirky! The service is top notch! I'm gluten free and their jalapeno cornbread pancake is so yummy! I add feta and bacon to mine for a sweet/savory/creamy/spicy experience. It's so yum! I also enjoy their huevos rancheros too! Great place for a brunch spot and they're open 24 hours on the weekends!! Make sure to come early to put your name down for the guest list!
Magnolia Cafe is such a charming local spot!! Friendly and attentive service, nice indoor and outdoor seating, large menu (everything looks so good), and a mimosa bar while waiting to be seated (quick wait times). Loved our queso omelette and croissant-wich! We got lucky and were able to park at the restaurant but more parking is available close by. LOVED this restaurant experience!
The staff was quick to seat us, despite the business. They were friendly and helpful. The place was clean, good lighting and atmosphere. Expect it to be somewhat busy / noisy bc this is a popular spot. The food is excellent. Good portion size and reasonable pricing. Their pancakes are exceptional. One additional bonus is the specialty drinks. The cold brew with horchata is to die for. John our waiter was amazing. Attentive, helpful, and humorous. I would recommend this place to anyone coming to Austin.
I have to admit, Magnolia Cafe has been in my list of places to try but somehow it never happened. Today, because we're in the neighborhood, so we decided to visit one located in the South Congress Ave. After putting the name down to get a table (a straight forward process that just need to scan a barcode and fill out the information), we got seated within 20 minutes. We started with Chips, queso and salsa (It was so good and gone so fast that did not have time to take a picture 😅); for the lunch we got Chicken and the Egg, Omelette with shredded beef, Chicken Enchiladas and Voodoo Blue Cheese burger with a side order of home fries (My order). Without knowing what to expect, I have to admit that it was an outstanding burger: from the nicely cooked beef patties to blue cheese crumbles and grilled buns, the result far exceeded my expectation. I'm addition, judging by how quickly the rest of family finished their meals, I can only assume other dishes were good, too. The service we received was excellent, definitely deserves to be mentioned. Overall, it was a great dining experience. Highly recommend it. 👏🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Magnolias is a staple in Austin, Texas. This night I walked in at about 930pm. To my surprise, it was not busy. Melissa took great care of me. The coffee was hot, the water was water. I ordered a dish with called the chicken and the egg. A jalapeno pancake is the foundation of this dish. On top of that, is a sizable portion of seasoned shredded chicken, followed by shreddee cheddar cheese, and 2 over easy eggs. Quite a combination of flavors and very very tasty. I also ordered a not so short pancake side, along with some back. Sit at the bar and watch the short order cooks put on a show. The manager, at least I think it was the manager, was all over the place helping where he could. Melissa regularly checked in on me and I left quite pleased with my order.
I tend to review restaurants while I travel. I just returned from a two month jaunt across Europe and was pleased to be back home at Magnolia. I’ve eaten this breakfast over 100 times. Three alarm breakfast tacos on flour with extra salsa. My wife gets the Flaco taco and a gingerbread pancake with pecans. Everything here is good.
Looking for a small town diner vibe in the big city?! Look no further, Magnolia Cafe is IT! ERICA the waiter was so kind and helpful! I came here on a Tuesday around 1PM, they had some people here but it wasn’t slammed. I really dig the Jazz music! The roast Beef omelette was fantastic, get the side of Home Fried (Quantity and Quality), the side of black beans was quite enjoyable as well. My girlfriend got the Chicken and The Egg, also an excellent choice. A cornmeal patty, chicken, and 2 eggs with spice 🍳 Will come here again!
This place is seriously super cute! Service was amazing and the food was delicious. While you wait you can purchase a beverage out back, and we only waited about 15 min. Seating consists of indoor and outdoor. Parking lot can be busy, but there is a side lot and parking in the back. Def worth the wait!
𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐠 𝟒.𝟓 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐬. Austin staple. This lovely restaurant in South Congress doesn’t have a lot of frills and bells and whistles but the food is good and there’s an extensive menu for everyone in your party who might want something different. We went early on a Saturday so there was a little bit of a line, but it moved by quick enough. Staff was friendly and my food lacked a bit of flavor, but the French toast was well made so overall experience.
Magnolia Cafe – A Perfect Austin Kickoff Spot! We started our day at Magnolia Cafe, and it was the perfect move. The landscape hash was hearty and delicious — definitely a meal that keeps you fueled for a day of exploring. We split a pitcher of mimosas, which set a great tone, and the atmosphere was relaxed and classic Austin. The service was friendly and attentive without being overbearing, and the whole place just had that cool, laid-back vibe you want in a brunch spot. Whether you’re looking for a big breakfast, a boozy brunch, or just a solid spot to start your day, Magnolia Cafe delivers. Can’t wait to come back!
Came here for breakfast, which actually ended up being lunch because of the wait time. We had to walk around South Congress for over an hour before we got a seat but the wait was worth it! I got lemonade and a smoked salmon Benedict. Lemonade could’ve been sweeter but the Benedict was amazing! Super flavorful and the home fries were great! Our waitress (I can’t remember her name unfortunately) was super friendly and funny. The AC could’ve been turned down a bit on such a hot day. I would definitely go here again but beware of the wait time! 🥔 🍋 🍳
We were visiting Austin from Denver and one of our Denver Friends recommended Magnolia Cafe to us. The food here was awesome and I highly recommend it me and everyone else at our table ended up getting breakfast items, and all of them were delicious! I got an omelette (that I can't remember the name of) and ginger pancakes stuffed with bananas, and it was delicious! My friend got the shredded beef omelette and said it was awesome, and my girlfriend got the chocolate chip pancakes and also loved them. Overall I highly recommend this place for their breakfast this was probably the best omelette I've ever had!
We had a short weekend trip to Austin and I am glad we made a stop at Salty Donut. We tried a pistachio cannoli donut and loved it. So I bought four more to bring back to Chicago with us. The donut is fluffy with just the right about of filling, chocolate, and crushed pistachio. We had a big breakfast prior to stopping by. If we had the capacity, we would have also liked to try the yuzu and matcha donut. I also wanted get the jalapeno and sausage and Terry Black brisket kolaches to go but neither was available for the day.
Magnolia Cafe offered great breakfast items. I ordered the French Toast, eggs, and bacon. The French Toast were very large, great serving size. Also the local restaurant drinks seem pretty good. I ordered the Spribiscus and it was very refreshing. The restaurant has a good atmosphere, nice music, not too loud where you can't have a conversation. The service was good as well. Would definitely recommend this spot for breakfast or even brunch!
I've been having the occasional dinner here since the mid-90s, more frequently in the beginning but less so in the last few years as I don't find myself around south Congress very often anymore. Last Sunday, we decided to swing by, in part for old time's sake, and I'm glad we did. Magnolia Cafe is still an Austin original, and, after decades, still true to what made it a local institution. Food was just as I remember it, flavorful and with fresh ingredients, service was great and the place was perfectly clean. We had the stir fry, the black bean entree, and a key lime pie slice; everything was delicious. Since the pandemic, they are not open 24 hours anymore but, otherwise, still there. We'll definitely be coming back a lot more often.
The salty donut is an cute and chic shop offering a unique variety of donuts, coffees and cafe items. Their traditional glazed donut is the best, in my opinion, but still a little heavy. The other donuts are rather dense but there is not anything that particularly stands out about them. That said, it was great to stop in and try. Customer service is relatively average. I also ordered an iced matcha latte which was rather lack luster in terms of matcha quality. I would go back again to sit and chat or study while grabbing a small treat— but wouldn’t call them the best donuts the area has to offer.
Went around 11am on a Saturday and it wasn't too crowded, still a few seats open but it got crowded shortly after. The donut itself was more like a sweet bread than your traditional donut, you can tell by the photos. I would've labeled it as a bun with a nice filling and topping. I got the horchata and the banana cookie butter creme, which is seasonal and it tasted like mashed banana on the inside. Definitely authentic and natural ingredients, but there was nothing special about it. The topping for the horchata donut was very sweet and marshmallowy and looked beautiful with the torched /bruleed top, but I also didn't find anything special about the flavor and it felt overly sweet at the end. They are around $5 per donut, so its a bit pricy. I think the draw is the nice environment and the special and fun flavors. The service was okay. I'm glad I tried it but probably won't be coming back.
This was our second visit, although this time on Saturday around noon it was kind of disappointing. Both host staff was not friendly or welcoming, just matter of fact.-no smiles! Our server was very friendly but very distracted and not very attentive to us. We had to wave her down a couple of times to get some assistance. We ordered the Biscuits and Gravy added shredded beef which was yummy and the Magnolia Stir Fry which was not yummy. The Stir Fry was more like a soup, way too much teriyaki sauce and barely any rice. The highlight was the Root Beer Float, perfection!! If we go back, I’ll stick with breakfast items.
I was coming here to have breakfast with my daughter and we were so exited to try this donut place. When we came in and we saw the intricate donuts we got more exited so we waited and ordered a pistacho cannoli, the star churo dulce de leche, and an iced matcha latte after we ordered me and my daughter saw they didn't have much variety they, also they only had 3 salty options which is ironic because they are called the Salty Donut . The service wasn't nothing speacial just your normal hi what would you like and that's it. Upon receiving at the donuts we were impressed but when we tried them they were good but they were just missing something about a good donut, then my daughter and I were disappointed by the quality, flavor and price of the matcha as we are matcha lovers. After this vist my daughter and I will probably not come again when we can go to a place like voodoo donuts or other donut places that taste way better, are more economical, and have better quality.
Was in austin for a quick trip and decided to stop in as the donuts looked good on photo. Man could I have been wrong . Let's start the cashier was not very helpful when asked a question about the menu, she just pointed at the display and this is what we sell. Im like ok ordered 4 items and they were not good. The donuts were hard as a rock and cold . The terry blacks brisket kolachi was terrible , meat looked like paste and had no flavor. Id be embarrassed to have my name associated with that trash. The jalapeño kolachi was ok but after them trash donuts and TB kolachi there was no saving them. Spent 22 bucks on 4 items not the end of the world but , I would rather went else where , will not be back .
My sister had this before so she was so excited because of how delicious it was. But we were both disappointed due to the fact the donuts tasted old and had not much flavor to it. We were extremely disappointed because it was a Saturday evening so it was busy. I would not recommend this !!!!

Magnolia Cafe: Still Capturing Austin's Quirky Heart
When you talk about Austin originals, it’s hard not to bring up Magnolia Cafe. This Austin institution isn't just serving food; they're dishing out pure joy with a side of genuine hospitality. From the moment you walk in, the vibe is unmistakably Austin: fun, a little quirky, and humming with good energy.
