Opinions de OPA! Greek Cafe Austin
This is the best establishment in all of humanity's history for liquids, nutrients, sound waves, live music, comfortable warmness on the flesh, joy, and attractive souls. The highest of vibes are to be had here. We heard the music and saw the ambience. Then we literally made an illegal u-turn to be here. Excellence on all levels. Minus one thing. Its a little gauche to have a tv and sports playing. No offense and no disrespect. This is a classy place. Please do yourself a favor and spend your money here. The best choice you'll ever make for the betterment of your life. I love you Opa! Thank you.
I honestly loved everything about this place. I stopped in and immediately felt how warm and welcoming it was! iI’s family-owned and you can really tell they care. The food was AMAZING. The gyros were so fresh and flavorful, like the kind you keep thinking about after you leave. The guy at the register was genuinely so kind. I asked for feta and he gave me a whole block without hesitation ! You can tell everything is fresh and made with love. The outdoor patio is so cute and cozy, such a nice spot to sit and enjoy your meal. The whole experience just felt happy and comforting. I left in such a good mood and already know I’ll be back because I want to try literally everything on the menu. This place is special and absolutely worth supporting. Highly, highly recommend.
I’ve been going to Opa regularly for a while now, and I can so proudly say this cafe has the best coffee, matcha, food, staff, music, and seating out of all the cafes in Austin. Everyone is so nice and approachable, they really care about you having a good experience whether that’s with wine or even a macaroon! Lots of parking and perfectly tucked away even though it’s on a busy street. The outside has so much seating with plenty of shade.
A must-visit Greek café in Austin — Opa delivers every single time. I stopped in at Opa and ended up having one of the best casual meals I’ve had in Austin. The croissant sandwich is the real standout — buttery, flaky, and packed with prosciutto, arugula, tomato, and a perfectly cooked egg. It’s the kind of dish that looks simple on paper but hits every flavor note when you bite into it. To go with it, I ordered the Evil Eye cocktail, and it was the perfect balance of refreshing and unique. The combination of vodka, elderflower, citrus, and blue curaçao is bright, crisp, and just sweet enough without being overwhelming. If you’re someone who likes a drink that actually tastes crafted, not thrown together, this is it. The vibe at Opa is exactly what you want from a neighborhood Greek café — relaxed, cozy, and genuinely welcoming. Great food, great drinks, and a space you actually want to hang out in. Absolutely a 5-star spot. I’ll be back.
Quaint little cafe, beautiful calm and soothing atmosphere it's really neat to come across a place like this. The food was rather excellent and lightlt filling from the simple appetizers to the lamb gyro and pizzas. Stayed late enough to enjoy some beautiful light jazz from some various performers showcasing their amazing skills. Overall a great visit only real issue was little late on the food arriving but the staff overall was friendly and knowledgeable in their menu and very helpful!!
The gyro looked so good I ate half of it before I remembered to take a picture. The pita was so fresh it was soft and delicious. The fries were done to perfection! I want to give this place one star just so I know I'll always be able to get in when I want. 😏 The atmosphere is awesome. Grab a table and get some work done or have a small friend gathering and play games. They actually have games available! My daughter and I are making this "our" place to go. Next time I hope to get to spend more time with her in that very laid back environment.
What a great place. Located right across the street from Proud Mary, the energy is much more relaxed. A solid place to work or meet people. Get the omelette and add meat balls. Super good. Americano was solid. Bathrooms clean. Tons of parking. Lots of quiet indoor seating. Shady under the trees out door seating. Happy staff.
really great food! portions are also big (except the avocado toast) but the gyros especially are great meals. the coffee is delicious and high quality but a little slow. the food is quick to come. the staff is very nice too. lots of great vegetarian options, and the seating outside is so nice. i liked the pasta salad and warm pita a lot.
I do open mic here and the host Zach is hilarious... I had an amazing time met some cool people as well. It's definitely a place I will return to.
One of my favorite spots! Been plenty of times for brunch, good coffee and breakfast. Croissant sandwich and yogurt bowl are my go-to. Food service is a little slow, but I usually don’t mind. I sit outside and have never had a problem finding a table.
I didn't get the chance to order food while there, but the environment was one-of-a-kind. They had both outdoor and indoor sitting areas, and it felt like a place where you could comfortably get work done while sipping on some coffee or tea. It didn't feel crowded or unmaintained, but rather open and cozy.
This is a great place to meet up and hang out with friends. There’s plenty of space, comfortable tables, and quick service. The menu is extensive, and the staff is very friendly. I especially love the interior design, and there are options to sit both indoors and outdoors, which is a nice touch. The place is quite popular, and we had a wonderful time during our visit. However, I do have one comment. My drink was served in a cup with a chip. I always mention this to businesses when it happens. Please make sure to check your dishware carefully. Chips on cups can harbor bacteria and pose a risk of cuts while drinking. I kindly ask the owner to address this issue and inspect all dishware for any damage. Overall, it’s a fantastic spot, but this small detail needs attention.
We got the gyro and the falafel platter and both were pretty good! It was the perfect amount of food. You order at the bar and then they bring the food to your table. We also had the sangria which was $2 off during happy hour which lasted until 6pm. Lots of nice outdoor seating and indoor as well
Great place to grab and coffee/wine and relax. The inside is so cozy with plenty of seating and the outside is a great space to enjoy the weather. They have delicious, fresh food that can satisfy your hunger and the staff is so so welcoming! Favorites were the hummus and the gyro wrap. The pita bread was so fluffy and perfect with the hummus and the gyro meat was perfectly seasoned. White chocolate mocha coffee was delicious too. I wish the spanokopita had more feta cheese but it was still delicious!
Tried placing a pickup order over the phone and the lady said it would take too much time and be too much of a hassle to check if what I ordered had peanuts and treenuts in it. To be fair it was Sunday during what I’m assuming was dinner rush but figured it wasn’t that big of an ask… just wanted some Greek food :(
Eater beware: The falafels we ordered were from trader joe’s (same perfect shape and grainy industrial taste) and they didnt even care to microwave them enough. Dolmas are are also from a can (you can tell from the citric acid taste. Freshly made dolmas dont taste like that). It would be understandable if it wasnt “a greek cafe” maybe…very understaffed so we waited ~30 mins to be served ready made microwaved food. Not sure why they kindly force a tip starting from 20% for counter service and all that..
Worst Greek food I've ever had. I ordered the Mousaka - it was burned and tasted like it had been reheated 4 days in a row. My friend ordered the briam - the veggies tasted as though they were past their 'use by' date. The frappe was decent. Called the restaurant to speak with the owner 3x. The staff was nice and helpful. I emailed the owner to professionally discuss my concerns with the owner - she didn't even bother to respond to me!! No email, no phone call...nothing! I will never return to opa. With so many other options I recommend anywhere else.
After standing in line for 20 minutes when I only had 35 minutes to grab a bite & a drip coffee, I left without ordering. I was looking forward to their delicious Greek omelette, but it was not going happen unless I had at least an hour to wait. It was a Sunday morning with a line of at least 10 people which barely slimmed down because there was no one helping the barista. He had to ring up all of the orders and turn around and make all the drinks. I was so impressed by the time I finally got to the counter I asked his name. Santiago was hustling so efficiently and was incredibly friendly to everyone. I’m almost appalled at the establishment for being so clearly understaffed on a busy Sunday morning. They needed one person ringing up sales and another person just on barista/drinks. When I tried to order an omelette, I found out that it would take at least another 30 minutes. Essentially between standing in line and receiving my food it would’ve been 50 minutes. Weekends on South Lamar are very busy, especially in the mornings. It astounds me that a busy café would only have what appeared to be one barista, one cook and a busser for the entire shift. I wish I had more cash on me to tip this amazing worker. I hope they double his pay because I’ve rarely seen someone hustle that hard. No café should push their employees to the brink and expect their customers to stand in line for 20 minutes to place their order. Furthermore, I don’t know if their AC is broken or if they just turned it off at the first cold snap but it’s very hot inside, particularly when the kitchen is open. They have tons of windows and only the front door propped open. It was so uncomfortably warm inside that all the patrons were sitting outdoors. I have been patronizing this establishment for 10 years and was incredibly disappointed by my recent visit. They are no longer near the top of my list for cafés in my neighborhood.
I remember when Opa opened on S Lamar. I think we were one of their first customers as we were served their Greek fare in a fun environment. I’ve enjoyed watching Opa becoming a solid establishment. Over the years, I’ve never considered the staff to be overly friendly or welcoming or acting as if they cared people came in - if that is your vibe, not a problem. However, I don’t think I’ll ever go back after last week. The staff was just down right rude, unhelpful and even unkind. In a world where so many are stressed, isolated, at odds with each other, this type of behavior for a public facing job just isn’t necessary or acceptable. Good bye, Opa. I’m sad & sorry. I don’t mind paying the high prices for going out, but I think management needs to up their service game & teach some skills or let people who just bring Opa down, go.
