Opinions de Sandy's Austin
Must try if you’re in austin. Would pick this place over the whataburger next door. Parking is limited and on busy days it gets crowded. Menu never changes.
Well, I've been to Sandy's more than once since 2018 when I first got to try them. Whenever I go, I always have to get a corndog plus a burger combo just like yesterday. I got a corndog and double cheese burger combo. Was showing a friend this place because Sandy's will always be my favorite burger spot in downtown. I've always got to stop by to get something from here
I can only speak to the custard and it was delicious and worth a return trip. It melts fast, but makes me think no additives. Yum.
One of the few old Austin places still in existence. Looks the same as 25 years ago. Thursday and Saturday special hamburger, fries and drink for $7.49. food delivered hot and fresh, burgers are good sized. Don't skip getting a frozen custard. There is no inside to this place. It is drive through or walk up, but you can sit at a covered picnic table.
Been coming here since I was a kid, the burgers always hit and the root beer floats really fill the hole in your soul. The people that work here are always nice, and this is one of the places that reminds me why I tolerate living in Austin. Watching the birds and people pass by is nice too!
An Austin institution. Going here feels like stepping back in time. Burgers, fries, hot dogs, and ice cream. Simple but good.
I can only comment on the soft serve ice cream. I had a waffle cone with chocolate soft serve dipped in chocolate shell. I loved it. Hope to have a burger and fries there too some day. It's obviously an institution having to get in line on a Wednesday night. It's not fair to rate the atmosphere since it's a walk up stand, but as far as stands go, it's great.
An Austin staple that never disappoints. The fries are my favorite and their stellar chocolate shakes 😌
A Local Classic That Always Delivers Sandy’s is a true staple in the city—simple, nostalgic, and always hits the spot. I usually go for a cheeseburger, fries, and a cone, and it never disappoints. Great food, quick service, and that consistency keeps me coming back
I’ve been coming here since I was a kid. A tall twist cone on a hot day can’t be beat. Staff is pleasant and the burger is solid. Fries are salted just right. The most Austin you can get.
Great place to stop in the Cool old part of Austin. Been in business since the 1940's. Nice to give your money to a small business in todays world. Burger was solid, fries were generic but not anything to complain about. Sitting outside under the tin roof at a picnic table was the best part. Stop here and help these keep corporate America out for a few more years.
Amazing after all these years how their prices have stayed relatively low. Definitely one of the cleaner and more delicious old-fashioned hamburgers you can find in the city. I believe it is family ran, very kind and courteous staff. Nice little area out back to eat and relax. Their shakes are pretty incredible as well I urge you to try both!
A charming burger joint with an old school feel. Good prices and yummy tasting custard and fries. Kind staff and fast service as well.
Amazing! I wasn’t sure what to expect with this being right next to a Whataburger, but boy was I impressed. The food was cheap. The service was quick. The burger and fries were delicious. I’m not sure how they do it but it was a great experience! Also, the burger was absolutely huge. I wanna say it was the size of a whopper or maybe a little bit bigger and it tasted great!
This is my favorite frozen yogurt place here in Austin. One of the few places here that really is still affordable! Enjoy!!
This gal will wait for a chili cheese burger and wait she did 😂🤤. The drive thru was packed out @9pm and the service seemed to be a family working their gears! Pricing was wonderful and a throwback to "back in the day" we all got chili cheese burgers and root beer floats for 4 we came out right around $40. Definitely did not miss the fries my guy!
Drove by this place and saw a long line. Decided to try it out and so glad we did. Food and prices are great, service is great highly recommend if you’re ever in Austin.
Best burger that I have had in a long time. And even though I'm lactose intolerant I just had to a root beer float (haven't had one since I was a kid). Even though I couldn't finish it all it was worth the minor discomfort & brought back such fond memories. Fast & friendly service (used the walk up option instead of the drive thru). Will definitely be coming back.
Have you really trying to get the experience of Austin! you must really try this place. Tons of parking. Nice for a cute date, chat with friends and enjoy a classic burger and yummy frozen custard. Super affordable and fast fast service. I have been to ask him many times and this is the first time we checked this place out. It will be a staple place to go to from now on.
Got the chicken sandwich and fries. The chicken in the sandwich was a bit small for my preference but still very good. Fries were warm and tasted fresh. Very fast service and short wait time for food. The seating area’s nice although pretty hot in the Austin summer weather. I assume it’d be nicer in the fall. Will come back to try the burgers and ice cream :)
Sandy's is a piece of Austin burger history. It's outside seating or drive through. Sometimes service is quick and Sometimes you wait a bit depending on how busy they are but it's worth it. I highly recommend the double patty with fries and a root beer float.
Old school location with old fashioned Burgers. Very delicious and tasty Burger. During our visit there was a very long waiting time. Parking is very difficult. Staff very friendly.
A true Texas original and a must visit if you are in the Austin area. They have great hamburgers 🍔 and ice cream 🍦 which are great on a hot Texas day. Great location in downtown Austin near Auditorium Shores and The Long Center for the Performing Arts.
We really wanted a shake and fries at 10pm and Sandy’s did not disappoint. We ordered strawberry shake with Oreos with a chocolate shake and some fries and a corn dog. Forgot to take pictures because we drank and ate everything really fast. All of it was delicious. Don’t forget to order your shakes with malt. The service was quick and friendly. We really appreciate yall!
Austin downtown Ice Cream stand feel! Great customer vibes and yummy food! Picnic tables 🌞🍦
I love Sandy's!! One of the few old Austin gems still left. Don't expect anything fancy here - that's not the vibe. It's just good old fashioned burgers, fries and shakes. We love to order food and go to the park nearby and eat and sip on the best vanilla milkshakes we've ever had. Even if you just go for the shake (or root beer float), you won't be disappointed 😍.
Well, last hamburger joints in Austin area and I’ll tell you this is like the best hamburger here in Austin beautifully done. The staff is amazing. Everything else is counts with the atmosphere. They even put on oldies music. What a great place what a great hamburger everything tastes so great. I appreciate it. Thank you so much guys!! My dog appreciate the hamburger patty!!
The greatest fast food burger in Austin by far. Maybe even the greatest burger in Austin. They use good quality meat and ingredients, and don’t over complicate things. A lot of fast food burgers kinda make me sick, but never Sandy’s! They also have great fries with fresh tasting fry oil. Some day I will try the custard, it looks delicious. Thank you!
Great burgers at a very reasonable price! The fries were also tasty, some of the best i've had in a while! Totally reccomend visiting for a short lunch break. The old-fashioned hamburger is definitely worth a try. Only outdoor seating available here and a drive-thru, so it may not be a good choice if you're looking to sit and eat on a hot day.
Sandy's Hamburgers is a hidden gem! Great quality food with very reasonable prices! I ordered the Cheeseburger Combo with Chili Cheese Fries and a Root Beer for just a bit over $10! This was on a Saturday and believe they had a bit of a special going on, but same same. The food was phenomenal. I went back in line to order the ice cream waffle cone dipped in chocolate, and loved it. It's outdoor ordering and seating with a drive thru option. Sandy's was packed with hungry customers and it was worth the wait. Give this place a try!
It is a small little Burger joint that offers American favorites: burgers, fries, shakes, cones. It has an old retro style, picnic tables for eating and matching mood music. Although it wasn't the "worlds best burger," it was pretty darn good. Fries were great too! We wanted to have ice cream but we were full. The hand dipped cones we saw looked delicious! I wouldn't put too much thought into the 2 and 3 star reviews from "expert" guides. The long, constant lines speak for themselves!
Sandy's was a great treat after visiting Barton Springs. Made me feel like a kid again. Playing in the water all afternoon and finishing the day with a delicious meal. Burgers, fries and a drink for under $10 is amazing! The burger was perfect, and fries were great. We even tried a vanilla shake...bro, that shake slap harder than Will Smith at an award ceremony! Definitely recommend.
If you miss old-school quick food hamburgers, this is the place to go. Sandy's still serves up a large, fresh, made to order, hot, juicy hamburger. Nothing fancy, just a damn good burger. They have a walk-up window to place your order and then a lot of covered picnic tables out back to sit and eat, or you can drive through and get your food to go. The place next door with the big orange W wishes they still made hamburgers this good. Sandy's will be packed with a line of cars, and full picnic tables and the orange W will be empty. I always get the double meat and cheese combo. It comes with a double meat and cheese buger, fries and a 20oz fountain drink for just under $12 plus tax. The burger is amazing, the fries are standard fries, but they are always hot with just the right amount of crisp and salt. And don't pass up on the corndogs either.
Sandy's is a must-try burger place in Austin. While Austin boasts many delicious burger joints, Sandy's distinguishes itself with its old-fashioned burgers. The patty size is perfectly matched to the bun, and they use fresh tomato slices instead of ketchup. Each bite is filled with fresh ingredients. Plus, the service is fast. Their dipped cone is the perfect dessert after the meal. Highly recommended!
There are so many memories. My grandmother and I would go walking all over town and shopping on the weekends when i was a child.. She would bring me here for ice cream to keep cool or their delicious burgers. I had fun standing in line. The wait is well worth it. Ask anyone standing in line with u...lol. Also, it's a great place to meet beautiful women. I know I did! 🤠😎
This place was a HIT!!! The burgers tasted like our burger spot in our hometown. Delicious! Meat was real, toppings fresh, bread was soft and it was the size of burgers used to be! Chili dog was delicious! If you are in Austin, do not skip this place! Their combo special for $7.99 on Thursday & Saturday was perfect for our family!
My son likes going to Sandy's for some reason. He asks at least once a week "Can we go to Sandy's" I think it's the chocolate shakes more than the burgers. I don't eat burgers but they look good!

What a find! I do like Whataburger, but we decided to explore the place next door because 20 cars were in line. 😂 Sandy’s was great. I got the burger and fries…both delicious and the fries kind of made me think of how McDonald’s were when I was a kid in the 80s. Everything was really hot and fresh. It is now a definite go to for us if we need something quick to eat on the way home.
Go with the rootbeer float! I'll be back to review the other items. It was very popular when I visited.
Place feels like a special part of history. Ice creams & chilli hotdogs delicious.
A really nice place for some quick eat! We visited on a Thursday night and this place is packed! The drive-thru line extended out to the road, and there was also a long line at the ordering window! Thankfully the line moved pretty fast. We got the Thursday & Saturday burger combo special, a corndog, and a pineapple shake. It was a total of 17 bucks and it was enough to feed 2 of us. I like the corndog the most. It was freshly cooked, the fried batter is very crispy on the outside and scalding hot on inside when you take the first bite. I think the overall taste would be better if they use a different sausage (more meat content? Something like the franks they serve in Costco or Sam's?), but I'm impressed by the corndog. The burger is also good - decent portion, pretty much what you expect from a burger. Fries are crispy but a little unevenly salted. Some of them are bland and tasteless. I will say personally I didn't enjoy the shake as much. I didn't like the flavor of the soft serve they have, but I do like the chunks of pineapple in there (which also made drinking from the straw impossible). The views are also pretty nice (especially at sunset). I didn't take any pictures of the food cuz it was getting dark and those pictures won't represent the food well 😅
Sandy's Hamburgers in Austin, Texas, is a true old-school treasure that’s been serving up delicious meals for decades. Conveniently located near Zilker Park, this iconic spot is perfect for a post-park treat or a casual bite while soaking in the Austin vibe. Whether you're stopping by for a quick lunch or a snack on your way to Barton Springs, Sandy's is a reliable go-to for simple, satisfying comfort food. The menu keeps it straightforward, and that's part of its charm. Their burgers are fresh, juicy, and cooked to perfection—no frills, just classic goodness. Sandy's fries deserve special recognition. They're hot, crispy, and irresistibly tasty, offering just the right balance of crunch and flavor. While they may not be gourmet, they’re undeniably satisfying and pair perfectly with any burger or hot dog. Another highlight is their rich and creamy frozen custards and milkshakes. Whether you go for a classic vanilla cone or a decadent sundae, it’s the perfect way to cool off on a warm Austin day. Sandy's also offers a laid-back, retro vibe with outdoor seating that invites you to relax and enjoy your meal under the Texas sky. They did get part of our order wrong, so some of us had to eat out of sync with everyone else as it was busy. With its proximity to Zilker Park, Sandy's is an ideal spot to fuel up before exploring Austin’s green spaces or to cap off an afternoon of outdoor fun. Affordable prices, friendly service, and a nostalgic charm make Sandy's Hamburgers a must-visit for anyone craving classic American fast food in the city's heart.
Only got an ice cream today but it for sure is an Austin staple. Only wish they'd fix whatever mic or speaker issues they have with the drive-thru, so if you're hard of hearing it's probably best you go inside and order. At the window we had a very enthusiastic worker greeting us with a giant smile on his face. We went during a slow time in the day so we didn't have to wait but I know it gets busy busy real quick. Finally, Sandy's is cheap and affordable with no loss for flavor or service.
Sandys Late Post 23’ 3.5/5 Sandy’s is ok, unfortunately they only have outside seating which was odd because the tables were located near the drive thru, don’t know about you but I didn’t want to enjoy my burger with a side of carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide and Nitrogen oxides. They just didn’t offer anything that was signature, no secret sauce, homemade ranch (no ranch), no peppers nothing that stood out. It was like going to a friend for a bbq with burgers on the menu, the fries were good but dunno. I probably would’ve preferred Whataburger since we don’t get either in Los Angeles! Outside seating, dog friendly
I know everyone is putting how amazing the burgers were but even for an old-fashioned hamburger, and I've rated many, these were quite dry and flavorless. I had the bacon cheeseburger with everything on it. Kids did love the fries. Just being honest, because what else is a review for, right?. However, the service was very quick, especially given how busy it seemed to constantly be. They had great sweet tea and the butterscotch shake hit the spot on a hot day. As for the atmosphere? I like how it hasn't changed much in 80 years so nostalgia is always a win for me and the prices weren't bad if compared to Whataburger up the way.
I had the double cheeseburger combo. Price was good, food was fresh with fresh ingredients. Fries were hot and crispy, and drink was satisfying. Overall food, atmosphere, and service was great. I went on a Sunday around 1 so parking was great. Plenty of parking space.
The food was amazing and a great value. Probably the best home style burger I've had in awhile. It was served extremely quickly and was hot and fresh. The stand outs are the butter toasted buns and the juicy meat. I would ask for extra cheese tbh as the flavor didn't come through over the strength of the beef. What I loved the most was that the bigger wasn't soggy! Dipped Ice Cream cone good, though I think the machine could be a bit colder on the soft serve as it was melting super fast more so than other dipped cones I've had. My only gripes so far is that they don't accept American Express, and that they could benefit from some bubbly personalities, I felt like i walked up to an NPC and they were soft locked. First impressions matter carry a lot of weight.
Service was fast and friendly and the price point is good, but the food was otherwise pretty basic. Good burger and fries but nothing to write home about. I was mostly disappointed in the oreo “sundae” which had no sauce or anything, just vanilla ice cream with some cookie crumbs on it. I should’ve gotten a dipped cone or root beer float. Whole meal cost me about $12-13.
Great place! Their ice cream. Creamy, rich, and delicious, it's the perfect. Whether you opt for a cone, a sundae, or a shake, you won't be disappointed by the quality and taste of their frozen treats. While the food and ice cream are fantastic, the ice cream did melt way too quickly, but I really can't blame them since no one can control Texan Heat!! Overall, Sandy's is a great place! Recommended!

Season it up or shut it down.. it use to have a flavor. Literally none at all other than the mustard pickle & onion. Please bring back the old Sandy's . I won't even mention the ice cream
Got an Oreo milkshake and it wasn't too expensive. Quick service and a nice little outdoor window. Super thick and tasty shake but it was a bit too sweet for me

After reading the reviews and understanding what a classical Austin burger joint Sandy's is, I decided to go there and get me a double w/ cheese and a shake. The shake, butterscotch, was great. The burger though, not bad but definitely not as awesome as I was made to believe. Dry patties, soggy bun and decent veggies. Tasted, well, average.
The burger, sadly, is nothing to write home about. It was fine but I would just as well visit the Whaddaburger next door. Fries were hot and well made. The butterscotch milkshake was standout good. About the consistency of wet concrete and delicious. I would return for that. If you are ok with dining at picnic tables out back, there is a dine “in” option. The crew working the window were great fun. Really nice guys.
Despite being an Austin institution, the food tastes like any other average fast food chain. Service is fast and prices are cheap but you get what you pay for. The meat patties are so thin even a double burger is going to be mainly bread and lettuce. The root beer floats are good. If you want to eat there, enjoy the outdoor seating being surrounded by cars and car fumes.
Burger was good as well as the ice cream. The reason they don’t get 5 stars would be the horrible customer service. They have absolutely no personality, no small talk, no eye contact. They seem like they are miserable and hate their job.
Sandy’s Hamburgers offers a nostalgic twist on classic American comfort food: burgers and fries. Order at the walk up window and your number is called when the order is ready. They have a surprising number of picnic tables around back (covered). The single patty OG burger felt like too much bun per burger but the double patty tasted like a real burger and was decent. Fries are tasty. Ice cream comes dripping and melts fast. It was difficult to understand the order-taker, and there were a surprising number of 'options' for what feels like a simple selection, making the ordering process confusing. Overall, if you're craving a solid, old-school burger and fries, Sandy’s delivers. Just don’t expect a gourmet sit-down experience—it’s more about flavor and nostalgia than ambiance.
Came for a simple dipped ice cream cone and found myself a little disappointed at the chocolate shell not really getting hard or seeming to have much of a chocolatey flavor.
I didn't like these hamburgers; they were bland, lacking salt, and seemed carelessly made. The fries also had no salt or any flavor at all. The service seemed terrible.
Not sure about this place. Sign says Burgers and Frozen Custard. No Frozen Custard here. Just soft serve which is of very cheap quality. Ordered a burger and the bun was grilled to a crisp...…
Eh, got the Sandy’s combo. Burger & fries looked & tasted like Whataburger. The size of the burger, even down to the diced onions. Was not impressed. I’ll go back to try the ice cream & chili dogs. But the burger is nothing special.
My burger was poorly prepared. I ordered a double meat and cheese + bacon + everything on it. My burger only had the two patties and bacon in it. Nothing else on it. No cheese, no lettuce, no pickles, no tomatoes, nothing, dry. I unfortunately was not able to ensure my order was done as I ordered since I had to leave right away. It was very busy at the time I ordered so I understand confusions and mistakes. I’d definitely come back and try this place again though, because I was treated very well by staff and regardless of mistakes, the burger was good. I’d just recommend to double check orders before with customers sending them to the kitchen and before giving them to the customers.

Sandy's: Austin's Go-To for Classic Shakes & Late-Night Bites
You know those nights, rolling around Austin, when the specific craving hits? Not just any craving, but the kind that screams for something utterly classic, a taste of pure, unadulterated comfort. Maybe it’s 10 PM, and suddenly, all you can think about is a perfectly thick shake and a side of salty fries. That, my friends, is when you steer your wheels straight to Sandy’s.This spot isn't just another burger joint; it's a testament to simple pleasures done right. The word on the street, and fr...
