Opinions de Uroko Austin
Review is for Tonari by Uroko. I think there needs to be more concepts like this — 12 course omakase that only lasts 45min. (You simply don’t need to be at an omakase for 2-2.5hrs) Excellent dishes for the price point and glad to have still had time on my hands. The scallop, Wagyu, and fish bone soup were the stand out dishes for me. Would do this again and prefer it over a lot of overpriced omakases in town.
I recently checked out Uroko and had an awesome sushi experience. Their temaki (hand rolls) are made fresh to order, and the 12-course omakase on weekend nights was a highlight — each nigiri was beautifully crafted and full of flavor. The place feels intimate and well-curated — small seating, a relaxed vibe, and chefs engaging with guests. Staff were great in explaining each dish, and you can tell they care about top quality ingredients. If you’re into sushi with finesse and heart, this is one to bookmark.
Love this place. They have very good selection of hand rolls and very good quality. There's normally one sushi chef that makes hand rolls one by one after you order. The chef makes the rolls very pretty. They sell salad, drinks, Japanese snacks, original T-shirts as well. Very cute place. The building gives very modern feel with the common eating area with other vendors. Normally people are hanging out/working with laptops. Cafe Medici is right nextdoor.
One of the best omakase experiences you can get in Austin without having to bend over backwards for a reservation or sacrifice your wallet for. Experience, attention to detail, and flavors are not compromised. Each bite is unique and balanced. I actually love that it is a 45 minute experience because honestly it takes a few minutes to consume one bite of nigiri lol. Would recommend to anyone looking to try an authentic and cost effective omakase for the first time, or even seasoned omakase enthusiasts
This is not necessarily the best Sushi that you can get in Austin. When you're coming here, you're booking for the 45-minute omakase experience. Mind you it is definitely an experience and that does come with a price tag. The place is very cozy and you are sitting at a bar like structure with a sushi chef at the center and a drinks/sake guide. We immediately went in and started to get our nigiri pieces of fish. Each time the chef put a new nigiri on our plate, he explained every single detail that went into making that particular piece of the nigiri. I would definitely say that the additions to the fish really was thought out on all of the flavors to compliment that particular fish. This is definitely an experience because instead of just getting a piece of fish you're getting something very creative. In fact, I would say perhaps something you might not be able to get at other sushi places. We started out and the sushi was pretty good, but as we continued through the courses each piece got better and better. The A5 wagyu Sushi piece was mind-blowing and also the uni was so buttery and did not taste bitter which I give all of the compliments to the sushi chef. As the sauce and pairing of what was in the sushi must have really brought out the flavor. My favorite pieces were the A5 Wagyu, the Ebi, toro, and Uni. I got the sake flight and it was a very good pairing with all of the different sushi pieces. I do wish that I had maybe three to four more pieces of sushi, but maybe that is just wishful thinking because everything was so good. If you haven't been to Omakase in Austin, I would definitely give this a try. I did happen to go the place next door that served hand rolls and got a spicy tuna and salmon. I'm definitely going to try to hit this place up for lunch one day and gorge myself in hand rolls. You can definitely tell that the fish was fresh.
Great place and service. They had a very creative and unique omakase! I highly recommend it. The whole experience was pretty quick though very enjoyable. Some of the omakase had this foam on top I hadn't seen anywhere else which was fantastic. And oh my... The beef omakase was a treat.
Wanted a quick take out option so we decided to stop by Uroko and give it a chance since the reviews were looking pretty good. After trying it, I can see why everyone loves this spot! I started off with a Yuzu Sake Slushy and this was the perfect drink for the hot summer- cold, refreshing, and citrusy. As for the food, we got a couple different rolls: Salmon, Sake toro, Hama toro, Spicy tuna, etc. Everything tated really solid here- my personal favorite was the Hama toro (the crispy quinoa was a perfect addition). I thought I’d be left hungry after 2 but to be honest, they are pretty filling which was a pleasant surprise. Overall, solid spot for some handrolls and I’m looking forward to trying other items on their menu!
An incredible and casual Omakase in east Austin. There are about 6 people that enjoy this experience with you. Both of the staff are Japanese, and were very personable. It is hard to say which of the 12 pieces were my favorite because they were all delicious. As far as pricing, they are decently priced for an Omakase experience — without alcohol and excluding tax and a tip, it is around $80. I can not recommend Uroko enough. Can’t wait to visit again!
Put down your chopsticks, this is the best Omakase destination in town. This group isn’t messing around trying to slow roll you like other places in town tend to do. Arrive promptly, be seated promptly, be served promptly, and GTFO. Each bite is delicious and introduced in the perfect order, but without the awkward time wasted in between plates. The sake flight is well curated, but they have a good selection of drinks if you don’t feel like sake. This is one sushi bar that delivers on everything it promises. Enjoy!
🌟 FIVE STARS 🌟FIVE 🌟 STARS 🌟 FIVE STARS 🌟 I absolutely adore Uroko, and their talented chefs and staff. If you want a masterpiece in each bite, please do yourself a favor and dine here for an evening -- you wont regret it. Their omakase experience is beyond anything I've ever experienced. Each piece, thoughtfully crafted by such talented (and ADORABLE) sushi chefs -- chefs Také and Masa. They are incredibly passionate about their food and you should come with an empty stomach and open heart to truly appreciate their creations. I have a toddler and rarely get to get out to enjoy an evening date night, but would choose (and have chosen) Uroko every single time.
Amazing Omakase experience, 10/10 would recommend. The sushi chef was very friendly and answered all the questions I had. As for the sushi, wow, I am truly speechless. Each piece of the 12 course meal was unique, full of flavor, and highlights the freshness of all the ingredients used. This experience is 100% worth it and a steal at this price point.
This place is a solid 3.5 star but the service takes it up to 4. It’s the most reasonably priced omakase and they are quite efficient but shouldn’t come as news that some pieces are amazing but others are just ok. Obviously you’re getting what you pay for. I do like that they do a $30 sake flight it’s such a fair price and add a nice touch. Ended up trying the hand rolls after as I was still hungry and I must say they are so generous with the fish and the portions are just right. The only problem was that it’s only 1 person working and a ton of people ordering so it kind of beats the concept of a hand roll place if you have to wait 15 mins for a roll.
Fresh sushi handrolls at a walk-up counter (they make ‘em right there in front of you!). Their rice is fabulous. Also they’ve an *excellent* speciality and hard-to-find sake selection — would be easy to miss this, but don’t!! They also offer take-out omakase and handroll classes, which is neat. Price point ~$6-12 per handroll.
Quick and delicious. 12pcs in 45 minutes $110 incl taxes fees & 20% gratuity A few of our bites were a bit on the bland side, but that comes from someone who is used to a lot more sauce on their nigiri. Plus the chef prob wants us to really taste the natural sweetness and flavors of the fish. The sushi chef is quite innovative and experimental with the food. If you do the 8pm seating or earlier you can go outside right after to grab some hand rolls if you’re still hungry (they close at 9pm). Same owner, same kitchen, same high quality fish. We shared 6 rolls among us 4 after 😛
Great ayce omakase. They have a variety of fish and creative combinations. I love their miso soup and fish collar. Docked a star because the rice portion is on the heavier side. I thought it was because we were in an ayce experience, but after looking at other non-ayce photos, it seems like it's just their style. My husband and I finished about 20 pieces on average, but there were still a lot left from their offerings, so you would walk out full.
I tried the omakase. It was good, but personally I felt that some of the nigiri sushi had too much garnish on top of the fish, and was overpowering the taste of the fish. Specifically there were 2 or 3 pieces that had either curry or miso on top, that really had a strong taste and I could barely taste the fish, which was a shame. Otherwise, it was a great experience; service was great, the atmosphere was great.
We (party of 3) tried out Uroko as part of the AYCE Omakase experience. Start time was 5PM for 90 minutes of AYCE Omakase but by the time we were seated and everyone had a chance to order drinks and the host explained the concept it was 5:10PM. The seating is for 12 and it is served buffet style as All You Can Eat with 2 chefs preparing the sushi and an additional employee assisting with drinks and dishes. After all 12 of us had each grabbed a plate of what we wanted, the chefs quickly fell behind and it was difficult to find enough sushi variety after the third trip. My plates were 10 pieces, then 8 pieces, 3, 2, 5, 4, 1, 2, 2. After 45 minutes we were waiting for the next batch to be prepared. The chef made varieties using the same pieces of fish (salmon, hamachi, shrimp, tuna, beef, scallop, and a few others) and switched out toppings as he liked. 12 people was too many for an AYCE concept with only 2 chefs. The quality of the seafood was not high enough for an Omakase experience at this price point. The rice was not as flavorful and delicate as I would have expected for an Omakase. The seating is made for parties of 2 and if you want to sit more together you have to ask in advance. This is more of a unique concept but could have been executed better.
Came in to order food with my service animal, and the cashier immediately yelled at me to take my dog outside. Instead of offering help or an alternative, she chose to raise her voice in front of other customers. It was extremely embarrassing and completely unacceptable. In Austin — a city that prides itself on inclusivity and dog-friendly spaces — this kind of reaction is out of line. The restaurant is in a mall where dogs are everywhere, near open doors and shared spaces, yet this employee singled me out and treated me like I was doing something wrong. Service animals are protected by law, and it’s clear she had no training or understanding of that. I never got to try the food because I was basically kicked out. The problem isn’t the kitchen; it’s the lack of professionalism from the front-line staff. This isn’t a small mistake — it’s a sign of poor management and failure to educate employees on proper customer service and disability rights. Shameful experience. If you rely on a service animal, don’t expect to be treated with respect here unless something changes — and I sincerely hope management takes this seriously.
