Opinions de Joyface Avenue C
1000/10 I love this place. You gotta go early or late. But music is perfect. It’s tight but high vibes. Cannot wait to go back!!
This place could not have been more fun! The music was an amazing array of remixed oldies! And there was dancing!!!! Genuine dancing all night long!!!! Stuff to stand on and a freaking waterbed, get real, music could not have been better genuinely!
Went tonight for matinee disco. Bouncer was lovely, bartenders attentive and quick, clean bathrooms. No complaints!!
This is one of those places in New York City that if you know you know. The line might be intimidating, but it is absolutely worth it. The DJs are incredible. The drinks are very very good. The crowd is very beautiful. That's the best way I can put it. I would recommend getting here before 10:00 or right after 10:00 to avoid the line. The line truly can be intimidating. Let me just reiterate that but other than that 10 out of 10 would recommend to anyone who loves to dance to strictly dance disco funk music.
Great 70/80s dance music with a pretty eclectic crowd committed to have the best time. Energy & service was top notch, (love that water bottles were available at the bar to help yourself) including the security by the door. Drinks were a bit expensive though.
Came here for a matinee event on a Saturday and had a super fun time. The space isn't large so I imagine some nights it could get pretty packed, but it wasn't so crowded while I was there that I couldn't comfortably dance around. The ambiance is great. It is extremely dimly lit inside. The DJ was awesome. The music is very loud so I would caution anyone who might have sensitive ears. I would 100% come again.
THE most fun place to go out in NYC! Period. End of discussion. The music and overall aesthetic/vibe of Joyface brings so much light to my life. I am forever grateful to have such an incredible place to have weekly therapy dance sessions. I cannot speak higher about Jen and the people she has on her team. Special shout-out to Z, Daniel, and Ben!! Everyone is so welcoming, kind, and SO MUCH FUN to be around. Come here if you’re cool and want to BOOGIE🕺🏻
Good vibes bar. Nice music plays. Tight but hot place. Love it.
The cocktails are so good but a little pricey. I also love the decor and music here. Fun crowd on the weekends
I went here for the matinee. A+. It felt like walking into a 1970s time machine with great music, dancing, and vibes. Highly recommend for an unpretentious early night… complete with a WATERBED! Docked one star for the pizza. We basically ate cardboard, but we had a great time doing so.
A very unique bar modeled to look like a 70’s apartment, complete with a waterbed! There’s different areas set up for sitting, but overall not too many seats available. Overall, a very fun stop and I’d recommend it although it’s probably not the place to spend a whole evening having drinks.
the place is fun. its small and too crowded, the front door charges everyone different prices don’t know why. some people she charges 50$ some 25$ doesn’t matter what time you go. overall its fun place especially if you don’t have to pay to get there. music is good old school disco music.
Place is cute and vibe is vibey. Stepped in with two friends on a n early Wednesday evening, place was fairly chill and not busy. We ordered 2 vespers and a martini, was charged $18 per drink. A bit pricy but still somehow makes sense in New York. Then it went downhill. When we stepped back to the bar the bartender asked us to move so someone else could order? Weird given that the rest of the bar was empty. And then when my friend returned his drink asking for a different drink bc he didn’t like his, the bartender asked for a card to charge him a again though his drink went back full. So 5 for the vibes, 3 for the drink(s), 0 for customer service.
Place used to be it! Until they brought in the new “door girl” and got rid of the original staff. So unbelievably rude, pick me energy. Also, the same music plays every time. I get it’s about throwbacks, but when I say the order and everything is absolutely the same.. it’s become a place you can’t rely on every weekend & visits need to be spaced out. Try going next door to HiLot, wont disappoint and they actually know how to make a drink!
I really wanted to give this place a 5 star review. I saw not so great reviews before I came here, and I was in total awe of the decor and atmosphere when I got there. But, a gin and tonic was $20, and the bartender was rude. My boyfriend asked if he had any suggestions and he said "no, I don't." Then, my friend tried to meet up with us. Because it was after 9:30, she was turned away because she needed a "reservation". We had to go out and grab her, and the bouncer (girl with dark hair and bangs, you need a vibe check) said to her "yeah, you need a reservation after 930. And you never showed me your ID". To the owners of this place, y'all need to take a chill pill and speak with your employees about how to create a welcoming atmosphere.
I usually LOVE joyface. I went on a Tuesday night thinking it would be more chill and lax, it was the opposite. I have never been cut off in my entire life. We asked for a simple song request, it was denied because it was after 1982. Okay that’s fair. I asked for a song that was released in 1981 by Journey, I got the response “you’re cut off”. The bartenders seemed miserable. I even asked them “do you like your jobs?”. They were on their phones the whole time being miserable. I understand if you had a hard day, but don’t take it out on the customers. I have been on days where I have waited outside for like 45 minutes, and the bartenders weren’t as miserable. Totally not fair. On a Tuesday, it’s not crowded, and still slow service, longer than a busy night!!!!!!! If you want a better job, don’t get mad at the people that are giving you business. I have never had a bad experience at Joyface, but the fact that I had one on a TUESDAY NIGHT, makes me upset. I would have loved to dance, but when we asked for the music to be louder and better, the bartender said to turn it down, and that’s not the joyface way. I love joyface and was excited to go at a time where it wasn’t jammed packed and we had to wait, but was super disappointed. I would rather wait outside for an hour, like I have, then be there on a empty night where the employees don’t want to be there. I didn’t feel welcome there at all. Joyface is the best, but we didn’t get that experience. Don’t take your bad moods out on the customers. Thanks.
Pretty mediocre. It’s somehow “list only” even when the place is empty. Unless you’re willing to drop $100. Once you’re in, it gets so packed you can barely move. If you enjoy spending money to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with entitled people, this might be a five stars for you
Bouncer was incredibly condescending and rude. After a patron said a comment about the bar next door, the bouncer started talking about the exclusivity of Joyface and being rude to the patron, making assuming an about the patrons character. Very standoffish, unprofessional, and prejudice.
We called ahead to ask if there was a private event. They said no. We showed up and they said we couldn’t come in and there was a private event. This is the third time it’s happened. Maybe be transparent online about your events. Really upsetting.
Racist staff at the door. Let several people in in front of us (all white), then when my group arrived at the front of the line with several women of color in the group, he denied us entry. Would avoid this place like the plague!
Racist against brown people. If you’re not white, you won’t get in— or they’ll charge you for a cover fee or tell you to come back after 1 to get in… my friend and I tried going in and at first they said it’s at capacity... then we saw 4 people come out and we went again to ask and then they said $10 for cover charge… so we moved away from the door, then we saw two white girls go in right after us without paying a cover charge. Then we asked these other two white girls outside joy face at the corner if they get charged a cover fee for going in. They said no. We tried going in with them but the bouncer rejected all of us. Then I told the two white girls to go without us to see if they get in and they did without paying a fee or anything. Soo this place discriminates everyone unless you’re white.
Was planning on visiting for that matinee party but after seeing photos of the venue, I’m good. No way I’m paying $40 to get into a place that looks like that. Trash. Basura. Garbage. No bueno. Fail.
Racist towards black people and they didn’t let us in. They lied and said it was a private event and we came back 20 minutes later to see a line and we asked people if they are attending the private event and they said there was none. So we spoke to the women named mandy and then she said we couldn’t enter because our male friend was wearing shorts. But there was no private event. They were only letting white people in. Disgusting. I totally understand it’s N.Y.C. and you have every right to gatekeep a place but there’s no need to lie. Say no with dignity!
I’ve never met such arrogant people in my life. You’re a bouncer at bar with 3.3 stars, relax. I almost feel like they claim this place is at maximum capacity, just to make it seem like people want to be there. When meanwhile, they have a plumeting rating. It must just be their gimmick because if management actual took these reviews seriously they would have done something by now.
No menu? When I asked for a menu, a bartender showed me his palms and said there’s no menu. How am I supposed to go out and not even know how much I will get charged for a drink? People go out on a budget sometimes, and it’s totally fine to know what’s the approximate amount of money you will leave there. Got in pretty easy, no problem with bouncers. But the place itself however did not give the vibe it was promised I suppose, very dark, loud and not much sitting spaces. Very hard to catch bartender’s attention to order or ask for water. I saved this place ling time ago for myself to check it out, honestly I wish I didn’t. As people mentioned, go somewhere else to spend money on a better service and atmosphere. $17 for a drink? Thanks, I’d rather pass.
