The absolute highlight of my Barcelona trip so far 🇪🇸. Juan and the team are incredible to watch like a finely oiled engine moving seamlessly between kitchen and customers providing delicious bites treats and drinks whilst chatting and multitasking to the extreme. Fascinating to watch, delicious to eat and just iconic both in setting and in taste. The dessert ‘from peru’ made with pisco sour foam was the outstanding dish I’ll remember forever but gazpacho and crispy padron peppers also incredible. One of the best places I’ve ever eaten! Highly highly highly recommend 🍷 🍋 🍅 🥖 🍋🟩
Absolutely fantastic! Flavours are out of this world, can be compared to fine dining! Do not miss this place. Prices are a bit stronger than what you would expect for bar setting in the middle of market, but quality of ingredients and flavours justify every single cent. Guys working there are great, very efficient.
Couldn't say enough about the place. Always packed with people. The owner was very welcoming and smile all the time. All crew were very active and helpful. Good English speaker and also has English menu. I ordered potato omelette and potato with spicy sauce. Both are so good and too bad I didn't try the seafood yet because it was a bit early to me as I was looking for breakfast. Very KOOL place to eat, big portion, and reasonable price. A hidden gem
Really love sitting at the bar counter watching the vibrant market vibe. The service is super fast and active, they are so professional. We try the fried artichoke and fried egg with squid. Thefood serving is super fast. Fried egg with squid is so delicious. I also boost up my morning with Café con Hileo. Quite a good experience I have tried this restaurant in the market 👍
We were lucky to get a seat for four fairly quickly (it was around 3pm and they close at 4). Service was quick and friendly and everything we ordered was superb! The fried eggs with squid was unique although a splurge, padron peppers soft and addictive, croquettes fried perfectly and very creamy and the mussels were fresh. A great experience in the middle of the hectic market!
Lovely place inside the market. You kinda have to loiter around the chairs to secure a spot. It's always busy so best of luck. We came towards closing and they were kind enough to let us sit since we were waiting close to 30mins. Once seated the cooks/servers will greet you and take your order. It's a bar concept so up order at the bar where you are sitting. Go with the sangria. It's refreshing. As for the food. Nothing goes wrong. They are famous for a few items that got featured on travel shows. They are well marked on the menu. But do venture out. The dessert and coffee were wonderful. They will cheer you on if you tip then nice.
The place is packed for a reason. Worth the wait! We came here during peak lunch hour. We had to wait for people to finish eating, right behind their seats, in order to grab a spot. Service was fast. We ordered two items and cava. The slow-cooked Iberico pork ribs were delicious and I would highly recommend. I’d probably skip on the escalivada, which is like a chilled cooked peppers and onions combo, with what tastes like a balsamic vinaigrette. I wasn’t a huge fan of the texture. The also provided a bag of free bread. Otherwise, I’d certainly come back to try some of their other dishes!
Like eating at a fine dining restaurant in the middle of the market. The food is fresh and extremely delicious. It’s a bit loud and you have to work to get someone’s attention but the food is worth it. I could eat those artichoke chips everyday and the fried eggs with mushrooms were unbelievable.
Everything is on point, service, quality of food and the atmosphere. My friend and I were lucky enough to have seats right away but it can get busy and people waiting. The quality of the food served is top notch, there is an extensive menu and everything is well worth the money. The oxtail risotto was delicious and the fried eggs with squid. The anchovies were amazing. I cannot fault this place, it’s one of my favourite tapas places to eat in Barcelona. The iberico pork rib was very salty but it was tender.. perhaps it could have done with less salt but everything else was top notch.
I had read really good reviews about this place, and it was nice to have a spot in the market with seating. Food was good but I think we could have gotten better value for money by just walking around the market and picking up random foods. House Special Squid & Egg was very unique. I would never have not squid and a could actually go together but somehow it did! A decent portion size on this one, but also very expensive! Grilled eggplants were amazing! It actually looked very aesthetic as well and they give you a spoon to scoop out the flesh from the skin. Overall quite a flavorful dish and nice to get some veggie and fiber in as well! Sausage & Beans was good! Quite a large sausage and a very large amount of beans as well. So definitely recommend this for some nutrition! Pork Dumplings were very unexpected! They will like crispy dumplings with some really nice sauce! Filling and the sauce was really nice and went really well with a coating as well, but only thing is that it felt a little too oily from being deep fried. Spanish Omelette was delicious too! I've tried them at other places and this one was notably good! Love the Papas Bravas as well! Perfectly crispy potatoes with that really nice spicy sauce on top. That sauce was so good, I had some with the Spanish omelette as well and it was beautiful
I love love love this place. The food is great but the guys working behind the counter are awesome! Jorge, Ivaan, Jun, El Jefe.. the whole crew! I think I’ve had most of what they have on the menu! Every dish is great, they have something for everyone. It’s a must visit when you’re in Barcelona. I make sure I stay walking distance from El Quim whenever I visit!
The chef's here are clearly well trained and very talented. The ingredients used are very high quality. A little on the pricier (especially for a market stall), however if you want a high quality meal you can't go wrong here. Steak was perfectly cooked and well seasoned. The fried eggs with octopus was outstanding too. I do wish the artichoke chips were a bit crispier and less oily but not bad. Go here if you want a high quality meal but don't expect cheaper market prices!
10/03/25: Barça Birthday Trip. El Quim featured on YouTube which is where we saw it. Great food, great beer and great service. Managed to find 2 seats quickly in 2 consecutive days for a bite to eat. Well worth a visit the black pudding & onions were exceptional, as was the Spanish omelette!
Had their specialty, the baby squid with fried eggs. A simple dish from an ingredients perspective but the execution is impeccable. The eggs themselves are reminiscent (to me) of a South East Asian style fried egg - crispy strands on the outside, but the yolks are nice and runny. The squid really lends the dish a nice seafood-y, briney sweetness. The tiny, spicy red chilli packs a punch and gives it a good kick. This dish wins a 5/5 on its own. The perfectly grilled peppers and fresh, crispy bread just seal the deal.
I can see why this is such a well recommended spot in the market and I ended up visiting twice to be able to try more dishes. The first time on Dec 28, I arrived before they opened and about 10 minutes in, all the seats were taken. The main dish I wanted to try out was the house specialty eggs and baby squid. Was the first time having that combo and it was unique and flavorful. Garlic prawns were cooked to perfection as well as the black pudding which had some amazing sweet onions with it. Also first time having escalivada. The meatballs were a hit even though the sauce was a bit sweeter than expected. Really liked the green peppers. On the second pass, I had to get the omelette (assorted veggie version) and it was one of the best things I ate in Barcelona. Enjoyed the El Boca Quim sandwich and another dish I was looking forward to was the sardines. Plus, you get to enjoy cava at 9AM. This is a must visit. 2023.12.28 & 2024.01.03
You can expect really quality food to be served here. Located in the bustling La Boqueria Market, it can get really crowded and you’d have to wait around to get a seat. You’d have to eye patrons who seem like they are close to finishing their meal and just hover around them - otherwise you will not be able to get a seat at all. We had the signature baby octopus served with egg which was super delectable and very obviously the star of the restaurant. We also had their anchovies and pork which were of excellent quality as well. Bread is given with your meal so you can use it to lap up any remaining juices/gravy from your meal. Together with our glasses of sangria, it was a meal that I would remember for a while. Would definitely recommend.
It’s not a meal, it’s an experience. Dining in the heart of the bustling Boqueria Market is a treat for the senses. Don’t be put off by the wait to get a seat, it will paid dividends. The food is stellar, featuring fresh ingredients cooked to perfection. The food is not pretentious but the preparation is amazing.
A small tapas bar located inside the Boqueria Market. Prices are indeed on the higher scale but all the dishes we ordered tasted so good and I would recommend them all. Just be careful to keep your belongings in the front instead of putting them on your chair cause they might be stolen.
Always enjoy eating here. Came back today after 4 years. The last trip, I came last almost 8 times! Food was tasty and fresh. Service friendly and prompt and place is kept clean and tidy. Just a little cramp but that's the same everywhere.
I followed Phil "Somebody Feed Phil" to this marketplace to have lunch at El Quim. We expected the seats were hot so we acknowledged to the staff seats for two, and we did not wait long for our seats. Ordering was an ease, the menu was easy understanding and we ordered our food. Everyone was busy but seemed they did not forget every customer, everyone was well taken care of. The must have signature dish: baby squids on fried eggs (2 eggs) was amazing! Best eat with their crusty bread, and use the bread to soak up the sauce left on the pan. We also had the anchovies, oysters and razor clams, all were very delicious. Oh, the sangria, got to have the sangria, it went well with the food. Watching the actions in the kitchen was a bonus. We had such wonderful culinary experience, El Quim isn't just a tapas bar, it is a destination.
this place has the best pan fried salmon ever. the omelettes are also a must. we came 2 days in a row for breakfast, the coffee is also excellent (they have oat milk). we didnt have to wait as we came early.
Everything was super fresh and delicious; you can choose from foie gras, baby calamari, potatoes bravas, anything you like. It's a favorite at the market, and you might have to wait in line a bit. Despite that, they are very attentive and friendly.
Great food and great service. The atmosphere is also amazing! Not the cheapest option, but understandable for the location.
Great bar in the markets… probably the best… extremely friendly and efficient with the best Spanish omelette we have ever had. The seafood was delicious and all dishes came out like a high end restaurant
I had the squid fried egg here over 6 years ago, since then I've thought about it at least once a week. Luckily I had the privilege of eating here again last week and it was just as delicious as the first time, honestly for me it's the best egg dish I've ever eaten it's just absolutely perfect. To top that the staff are friendly welcoming and attentive thank you again for the best egg of my life!.
One of my best meals in Barcelona. They say it's always hard to get a seat here, I guess I was lucky then. Their Sangria is the bomb but the start of the show was the Chiperones con Huevos, with a side of Patatas Bravas. ♥️ Will comeback to rry other dishes.

Had a quick bite here to experience the Tapas Culture inside the famous Mercat de la Boqueia. 🙂 Ordered two best sellers, Fried Eggs with Baby Squid and Patatas Bravas and they did not disappoint. 🙂 A little pricey for the squid dish but it was something different from other tapas bars’ menu. Glad I’ve tried that. 😌 Service was fast and friendly. My first tapas meal in Barcelona was a good start. 😊
Eating at this restaurant in the market was an experience for me. A completely different atmosphere than in classic restaurants. Excellent food made from fresh ingredients.
This was our first stop as soon as we landed. We were in the Mercat Boqueria and wanted to try some tapas. El Quim did not disappoint. The chefs are all very nice and friendly. We had the croquetas, pan con tomate, omelette, and Gazpacho. Everything was delicious and a great start to our trip.
Heaven. The obligatory seafood platter, the baby squid and the iberico bellota plate are just simply perfect, but there's much more for the gourmets on the rustic & gorgeous lineup: the tripes are sensational! The texture is flawless, cooked to be supersoft but still nicely chewable, the taste is led by a rustic smoky note with a touch of chili - perfection. And the morcilla: well, we have a long tradition of black (blood) pudding in Hungary, but this is very different: it is not just blood, but full of different haggis-like cuts, dressed in a very unusal but phenomenal seasoning (almost sweet, lead by cinnamon, ginger...?). Flawless spot, everything is "Preparado con cariño" as our server said smiling on my honest surprise after tasting the tripes.
Had brunch at El Quim’s twice during my stay, there was so much to select from, I feel like I can eat here for another week. Everything was delicious & worth the money. I had the shrimp, mushroom with foie Gras & egg, Iberia ribs, peppers, Peruvian dessert & Mamma’s chocolate cake. Alberto provided excellent, efficient service with smile.

Went for breakfast. They opened at 9 sharp. Ordered eggs with baby squid. They gave bread as sides for free. The fried potatoes were nicely done too. Overall a great experience.

After reading a lot of great reviews online, we decided to give this place a try, and we're glad we did! While it's on the pricier side, which is typical for a touristy spot like the market hall, the food and atmosphere made it worth it. A tip: opt to sit on the left side of the bar (coming from the main entrance) for a more spacious and less crowded experience. It's perfect for enjoying a bite to eat and some chilled drinks.
Definitely an experience to eat at the Mercat de la Boqueria. El Quim was extremely busy and there is no proper way to wait for seats, you just have to look at who you think will finish first and wait behind them. Food was really good - very solid tapas! The garlic shrimps and croquettes were absolutely delicious (definitely a must order!) I would also recommend the artichoke chips and the green piquillo peppers for fun and tasty appetizers. The tomato bread was a very generous portion and very tasty. I would probably skip their signature fried egg with ham dish next time, it was good but nothing special. Would be back for sure!
El Quim de la Boquería is a lively and charming bar located inside the famous Mercat de la Boqueria in Barcelona. The tiny counter-style setup with stools all around gives it an authentic and bustling market atmosphere. The menu offers a wide range of cold and hot tapas, meat and egg dishes, and local drinks, making it a great spot to sample traditional Catalan flavors. The food is delicious and freshly prepared, though prices are slightly on the higher side, which is understandable given the market’s popularity. The bar can get quite busy, adding to the vibrant energy of the place. However, it’s not the most vegan-friendly option—when we asked for vegan dishes, the eggplant came with sour cream and the mushroom plate included foie and egg, which made it difficult for our vegan friend to find suitable options. Still, the overall experience was enjoyable, and the quality and taste of the food stood out. El Quim de la Boquería is best suited for those looking to enjoy authentic market-style dining and local specialties in a lively, central setting.
This restaurant located in the La Boqueria market. The food was ok, but in my opinion it’s a little overhyped - also the prices were quite a bit higher (likely due to the location). It was super busy, so maybe we just ordered the wrong dishes. The croquettes were a little mushy and seemed like they were lukewarm. The prawns were good, but they were not entirely cleaned and were few for the price of the plate.
It’s inside the market and we were seated at the bar watching the chefs making amazing tapas! We were amazed by the flames and the dynamics and the flavors. The Riojas wine was great and the croquetas delicious.
we had the eggs with baby squid - they were tasty but not exceptional and quite salty. i did appreciate the complimentary bread and fast service though!
Higher prices are expected at a tourist area.. prices are shown upfront, so it is whether one is willing to pay for it. Judging from the crowd, many do. Food is above average and enjoying food in the middle of a bustling market is part of the experience for tourists.

Nice local vibe place with delicious seafood platter. Haven't tried anything else but i definitely recommend grilled seafood. Staff are funny + kind!

I honestly do not know what the hype is about this place. Its in a market so waiting is such a pain. You'll probably step on someone's leftover food that fell on the floor and they don't clean up before you sit down. They simply throw the paper the previous person was eating on. The food was also not really good. We ordered the mussels, croquettes, grilled peppers and fried eggs with baby squid (which is ridiculously expensive). The flesh in the mussels were so small it was ridiculous (considering we had such fat and juicy mussels the next day). Some of the shells were empty. The fried egg baby squid was entirely unseasoned with the fried eggs drowning in the water that came out of cooked squid. Quite unpleasant. I only enjoyed the croquettes and the grilled peppers. To see the owner coming on Google reviews to throw tantrums about people who had received bad service and did not like the food (both extremely believable) is just crazy to me. This place is definitely not worth the price because its not even good. Please use your money elsewhere that's worth the hype (highly recommend Colom Restaurant).
We visited for lunch and unfortunately had a very unpleasant experience. At the end of our meal, we found a large hair in one of the dishes. It was honestly quite shocking and completely ruined my appetite. We informed the staff, and the response was simply that they would prepare another one. By that point, I was already too disgusted to continue eating. When we asked for the bill, the dish was initially included. After we pointed it out, they removed it, but there was no real apology and no attempt to acknowledge how unpleasant the situation was. We asked whether they could at least offer the drinks or a small gesture of goodwill, since the experience had been spoiled, but the answer was no. I understand that mistakes can happen anywhere. What disappointed us most was not just finding the hair, but the lack of empathy and basic hospitality in handling the situation. Sadly, we left feeling frustrated instead of enjoying what should have been a nice lunch.
