Food was delish. Service was excellent. Our server, Chris, indicated my meal might take a while (it didn't) but it was good for him to warn me anyway. Sat outside next to the babbling brook. Great setting.
Amazing food, relaxed sweet atmosphere. Our go to place for date night.
Simply amazing food. We were visiting the area from Manhattan. Nice place to sit outside under the trees, by the stream, but even better was the food. I am vegan so there was tofu soba noodle for me and my boyfriend was happy camper with filet mignon and ice cream cake dessert. Delicious!
Great food, nice view, good service with a friendly vibe and live music. You can't ask for more from a restaurant. The only knock I'd give it is price of a glass of wine or beer was a bit high like in Manhattan price range.
Had amazing dining experience recently with my daughter. Dinner was delicious, excellent cocktails and friendly, attentive staff. Will definitely go again when in the area.
Great Mexican food. Ate outside alongside the creek, under a mulberry tree . Huge margarita which was delicious. Took one enchilada home as the portions are very generous. Service excellent and very friendly. The whole complex is quite lovely and still developing.
I have never had a bad experience at Bear Cafe. The food is almost always very excellent, mostly slightly above average. The service always friendly. The freshly made desserts are very tempting each time out. The atmosphere comforting and relaxing. Expensive, yes, but a nice treat once in awhile.
We live in Austin, Texas and have traveled to Mexico several times, so I think we are reasonably well acquainted with Mexican food. The Bearsville Cantina cuisine is absolutely delicious with exceptional service and stunning views. We always visit when we are in the area.
We're back in 2023 and had another amazing meal and service at this fabulous restaurant by the water. Delicious El Jefe margarita, yummy! They have dog friendly outside seating which makes it a must stop for us!! 2019: Great ambiance on the stream. Dog friendly. Good food.
Food was excellent. Our server Christina was sweet and efficient. We sat outside on the back deck where we could hear the music inside and the running water. Beautiful experience. The manager was also very polite and accommodating. Will definitely return. 👍👍👍
Food was fresh and delicious! Great combinations and dishes. We had the fish tacos, shrimp tacos, chicken and chorizo burrito, and stuffed salmon. The margaritas are delish! I suggest passing on the sour mix and have it made with just fresh lime juice. Good stuff! Great service too!
Hands down best Mexican place in Woodstock if not the entire Hudson Valley. Food is always fresh menu isn't dull and tired with great twists on traditional dishes. But it's the service that outmatches the rest. Amazing staff extremely generous and kind. 5 out 5 for me
Vegan and Mexican fare are not two words that often go together. The Bear Cantina has mastered this combination. First, the staff was immediately welcoming. We sat on the scenic patio overlooking a runoff from the Hudson. The vegan menu has many options and even a beyond burger if you happen to be that person at a Mexican restaurant who doesn't want authentic food. The ingredients were very fresh and my burrito had a unique vegan twist on the "typical" dish. Cashew crema. My downfall. I will order anything with cashew cheese of any kind. My bf ordered a chicken burrito and loved it just the same. I think we would drive the hour and a half to eat here again because, yes, it was that good. Plus, there is always an adventure to be had in Woodstock.
So yummy! You can sit inside or outside by the stream and both are quite lovely. The food is really good and probably the best flan and churro's I've ever had. We've had birthday dinners there and celebrated my 17th year anniversary with my hubby there and it was so much fun.
Wonderful meal in a fun, eclectic location. It's one of those hidden gems you wouldn't expect to find that far out into the woods, but Bearsville seems to hide a few of these secrets. Well-cooked food with ingredients that were clearly fresh, we had a large group that was seats quickly and got out meals right on time. I suggest getting a couple of pitchers of margaritas, ordering the buffalo cauliflower as a starter, and then go with your gut for the main meal. There's no wrong choice!
We just had such a wonderful experience at the Bear Cantina tonight. All eight of us had excellent meals and my margarita was yummy. Everyone was super friendly and helpful, great service. Thanks so much we'll be back soon.
We had an awesome Mexican Easter dinner next to a crackling fire overlooking the stream with the sun shining on us. Couldn't have been better! 🙂
Great quality Mexican food near Woodstock! Tacos and quesadillas were delicious as were the strong margaritas (recommend the Presidente). Hard to beat that combo!
Had a reservation to eat before a show next door. Glad I did because there were no openings. Anyway, ordered one of their special drinks, the Bearsville: Vodka, St. Germain, Fresh lemon juice and Agave syrup, with a cucumber slice. A bit tart and delicious. I ordered the New York Strip with garlic mashed. While the wait was a bit longer than I expected, the cut of meat was absolutely phenomenal. Easily one the of the top 5 steaks I've had. Cooked perfectly! Wife had the Citrus lime BBQ salmon, also delicious. No complaints. Definitely worth a try.
Excellent service, food, and drinks. It's always spotless, and the atmosphere is great. We love The Bear Cantina!
Very very good Mexican food. I did not expect such a gourment menu and diverse. Margaritas could have been better, not fresh made, they were from a mix. The cerviche was outstanding and the sauce for Los Tres Hermanos was soo yummy and different. The guacamole was one of the best I have had. Staff was friendly and attentive. I'll be back for sure!
I love this place. The location is really cool, and the service is really good. This is my favorite Mexican restaurant. The margaritas are big and delicious! My favs are the quesadilla and chimichangas with steak. Me and my boyfriend are locals and regulars here on a random weekend night.
this consistently great restaurant rivals any eatery in nyc. from the moment one enters the space, the service is impeccable - gracious and friendly in a casual, laid back way. from the vegetarian fare to the meat options, the food is outstanding. the wine list is excellent. the place is rustic without being cutesy and overlooks a lovely brook that runs through the town of woodstock.
This place is new in the area, great food and drinks. Love the outdoor seating near the water. The host and waiter are friendly and courteous. There are several other restaurant in the bear area, including a music theater. I'm glad I found this place.
Such an awesome place. It’s a compound of different buildings including an outdoor seating area with a fire pit, restaurants, and music theater.. so much going on. Food was great and the restaurant has seating next to a beautiful stream. Highly recommend to anyone visiting Woodstock.
The food was amazing, the atmosphere both inside and out was great and the service was friendly and SO FAST! If you’re craving some authentic Mexican food, look no further! And don’t forget to try the churro ice cream. To die for!
The Queso and the carne asada are the best i have ever had. The service was amazing and i loved that the outdoor seating was next to a little babbling brook.
Delicious food, the best people. Eat here weekly 😁
Everything was so good! I had a classic margarita, chimichanga with chicken, guacamole, and chips with salsa. Highly recommend!
A very good Mexican restaraunt but not the fastest serving.
The Burrito Rico was the best burrito I’ve had in forever. Seared Salmon entree was a beautiful platter of flavors and colors. Staff was warm, informative, attentive, and friendly. Both indoor table by the window and outdoor patio table by the creek were ideal spots (it started raining on the patio so we moved indoors. Would absolutely come back!
We would give the Bear Cantina 10 stars if we could! After needing to reschedule our wedding plans, we were looking for a venue to host our rehearsal dinner at in Woodstock. Having visited the restaurant before, we knew this would be the perfect place. From the beginning, the team was helpful and accommodating, willing to work with us on the menu and make sure we had everything we needed for the perfect night. The food and atmosphere were both amazing. The staff is super friendly and our guests truly had a special and memorable night. We cannot wait to return here on our next trip to the area!
A cold night when we walked in, they asked ”do you want to sit by the fireplace”? Omg, yes! By far the best fish taco I’ve ever had. Many fish tacos from Mexico, all up the west coast, I didn’t expect this so far from Mexico. My date had the pastor tacos and shared one with my gf. She said I’m always ordering this from now on!
Had lunch at the Bear Cantina after the Rail Explores adventure nearby. We were seated very quickly, our waitress was the friendless and very engaging. Our dishes ranged from tacos, enchiladas and the mole special, absolutely phenomenonal flavor. We indulged with the Oreo Churros, such a treat! Will definitely come back when we next visit Woodstock!
What a lovely place to eat and enjoy yourself! Pet friendly. The people that work there are great! And #1 the food is fabulous! Margaritas a little expensive for my liking but worth it for the taste! Made perfectly! All in all I would be happy to come back again!
The food is tasty and plentiful. The atmosphere is boosted if you sit next to the windows overlooking the Creek. It's beautiful watching the water flow while eating dinner or lunch.
It was really good! The service was amazing and having it right next to the stream was really cool. The food was so delicious and there was so much to choose from. Even as a picky eater I found things for me. Their churros were amazing as well and they were an amazing thing to top off the meal. The waitress was so nice and I def think this restaurant deserves more love!
Such a hidden gem in Woodstock this is one of our all time favorite places. We love the vegan options as well. Nice staff. And in the winter a big fire is going in the summer, sit out by the creek it's a beautiful spot.
The food is good for how much it cost. It’s good. The service is good. It helps a few know Spanish that atmosphere is a little tacky but it has a beautiful view and it’s really a nice place to go to have dinner.
Excellent. This is the closest restaurant to my house. I’ve been up here for 20 years now, and am so happy there is a great Mexican restaurant in this location. First, if you’ve never been in the building it’s quite an experience. Beautiful. I had the burrito with chorizo which was great. The salsa was great, the chips were great, the salad was great. All five stars, with five star service.
This was such a fun place to eat! It's right in the creek which is just beautiful. The staff is super friendly, the restaurant was crowded but we still received excellent service and it was not overly loud. The set up is perfect, I highly recommended this place. The entire area is really pretty.
Absolutely phenomenal! One of the best places I’ve ever had. Margarita was DELICIOUS, Nachos were an 11/10, and don’t even get me started on the flavor packed tacos! The service was wonderful, very friendly and attentive staff. Also the view of the creek was lovely! Amazing atmosphere, and an overall outstanding experience. I will definitely come back soon.
I ordered the steak and chorizo tacos and was pleasantly surprised with how large the dish was! It came with rice, beans, guacamole, sour cream, tomatoes, and cilantro. The tacos were a bit oily but that’s how chorizo is usually. The guacamole with chips were great! Lots of pico de gallo which I love. We also had hibiscus margarita and jalapeño margarita - SO refreshing and delicious.
Definitely coming back. The food was delicious. Something for everyone whether you eat meat or are vegan they got you covered!
This is a great option if you are near the Woodstock area. The prices are more reasonable than many of the places in Woodstock proper, the food is amazing and the portions are ample — big enough to share! Great atmosphere too. All around a slam dunk.
We love coming here anytime we return to Woodstock. My 5 year old loves the bear theme, the river view and the toasty toasty winter fire. The food always satisfies!@
The Bear Cantina is one of our favorite restaurants - you know that one you go to when you aren't in the mood for trying something new and just want to go somewhere you know you'll like? We've probably visited this place more than any other local restaurant, and that's because we enjoy it every time. I haven't had a bad meal here - all the things we've tried are tasty. My wife loves the tacos, and I like the nachos a lot. All of the varieties of margaritas are great, too. Sitting out on the deck overlooking the creek is so relaxing when the weather is nice, but the interior has beautiful outside views too and a cozy fireplace for when it's too cold for the deck. The service has also been perfect each time. It's a really cool location and a reliable spot to go to for a great evening out.
Really wonderful Mexican food. Loved the elote app and my burrito. Servers are so friendly and accommodating. Even though they had a huge party being hosted in the restaurant they still checked on us frequently. We sat outside with our pup. This place is dog friendly with ample seating on their back patio! Highly recommend!
Huge fan of this place! The Mexican food is terrific, and I really like the margaritas, too. And the staff is extremely friendly and accommodating. They were very good with our little one, they brought a high chair and were very friendly with him. And the price is right too! Definitely a place to return to.
Always a great time at the Bear Cantina! Ana is kind, hospitable and my daughter loves her. The entire staff makes you feel like you’re coming home. Great food. Great spot.
Everything was so delicious and fresh, I was really surprised as I came here on a whim from spending the day at animal sanctuary nearby! Currently dreaming about the delicious and hugely portioned impossible enchiladas all the way from the Bronx right now!! The ambiance outside is very beautiful as well and our waitress was very attentive!
Bear Cantina Mexican is a true gem tucked away by the water, offering a dining experience that's as refreshing and flavorful. From the moment you step inside, you're greeted with the lively ambiance and the tantalizing aroma of authentic Mexican cuisine (and excellent complimentary chips and salsa!) The waterfront location adds an extra layer of charm, providing a picturesque backdrop as you dine and even better in the summer when the patio opens. The food at Bear Cantina is nothing short of excellent. Each dish bursts with vibrant flavors and fresh ingredients. Whether you're indulging in their sizzling fajitas, savoring their perfectly seasoned tacos, or diving into their enchiladas, every bite is a celebration of culinary craftsmanship. One of the most remarkable aspects of Bear Cantina Mexican is their commitment to inclusivity, extending a warm welcome to our furry companions. Even in the winter months, their dog-friendly patio remains open, allowing you to enjoy a delicious meal with your loyal canine by your side. The staff at Bear Cantina Mexican are friendly and attentive, always going above and beyond to ensure that every diner leaves with a smile on their face. Whether you're a regular or a first-time visitor, you'll be treated like family from the moment you walk through the door. Whether you're a food enthusiast, a nature lover, or simply looking for a place to unwind, the Bear Cantina is sure to leave you feeling satisfied and inspired. Ps - Make sure you leave room for homemade ice cream next door at Nancy's Of Woodstock - Artisanal Creamery!
Amazing experience. We were able to pick our own table and we sat next to the beautiful roaring fireplace . My partner and I both got the Mole Enchiladas , one with chorizo and one with chicken and they were amazing. Extremely warm and cozy experience on a cold December Saturday . I highly recommend this restaurant and will be coming back!
We came from Massachusetts expecting to go to Woodstock, but we found this place in Bearville. The atmosphere is absolutely stunning. Anywhere you sit you have a great view over the river. The restaurant itself is very welcoming as so the town is too. The food was great and fresh. The salsa is homemade as well. The staff was really nice and cooperative, as the food came very quickly. They also have live blue grass on Saturdays. Overall a wonderful place in a natural setting, 10/10 would recommend!
food, wine, ambience and service were all great. only problem was that we made a reservation, we didn't take forever to order or eat or anything, but apparently we must've had the last reservation and were made to feel pretty uncomfortable midway through our meal as they even turned the music off. it was valentine's day and our reservation was for 8:30pm. that's pretty reasonable. i think we were out of the door by 9:30 even after ordering 3 courses. it was just disappointing to have such a lovely beginning of the meal, complimentary bubbly even, end in such a way. staff was still polite but there was no mistaking that we were officially unwelcome at a certain point, even when there was another table there. to have our entrees on the table and no music and the staff sitting at the bar clearly waiting for us to leave when we're trying to have a romantic dinner... not nice. but, again, everything was delicious, our waitress was great and it is a beautiful spot on the creek. i still like it there, this was just not what we hoped for or expected or deserved.
Very nice atmosphere pretty views..the fresh salsa is so yummy and the burrito was delicious ...my steak was on the tough side .. but I just took out the grizzly pieces and enjoyed the rest.. 😁😌 Definitely going back !! The Bear 🐻 mmm!
Great atmosphere, cozy and warm. Party of 5. Took 15 minutes to get first bar order after being sat in dining room. Meals came out in phases instead of at the same time. Food was ok. Manager felt that it wasn't ok for the chef to not have meals brought out at the same time so he comp'd or meal. We would DEFINITELY go back because of their customer service and the nice feeling we had while we there.
First time here. Lunch for 4 of us. Service very attentive and friendly. Two vegan meals which they enjoyed. My wife's salad was very good. I had enchiladas with ground beef (see pic) and the best overall combination of enchiladas, rice and beans I have ever had...and I love Mexican food! One star off for atmosphere...dark woods and boring. Highly recommend. Also, plenty of free parking.
The waitstaff was engaging and attentive, and the food was excellent. The place itself is beautiful, as the restaurant is situated above a stream and the whole side of the restaurant facing it was floor to ceiling windows. Even the other customers were friendly and excited about the food. The hostess was the worst thing about the place as she was unfriendly and cold. They would do better to hire a person who exudes warmth and seems more welcoming.
We enjoyed takeout on a rainy evening, though I would have loved to have eaten on their deck overlooking the river. Food was good, not authentic but very delicious nonetheless. I really loved their Mexican cob salad & the steak tacos were pretty good too!
The food and the service was pretty good. My lady loved the salmon with mango salsa. I had the meat combination with shrimp, chicken, and steak. The shrimp were really good just wish they gave a few more. Everything was reasonably priced.
Great ambience, spacious dining room is good for groups. Very amiable and attentive servers. I had the scallops, I recommend them. Nice tap beer and wine selection. A little on the pricey side, so be forewarned.
Great Mexican food in a beautiful location tucked away from the hustle and bustle of Tinker Street. Prices are a little steep and they don't have a lunch menu (at least not on weekends when I visit) so buyer beware, but if you are looking for a quieter, beautiful place to enjoy some really tasty food, this is your spot.
A chilly but beautiful evening to dine outside. The deck has been expanded since the last time I was here and maximizes the creekside. The staff was friendly and prompt. We ordered skinny Margaritas which were a bit tart, but we asked for it! I ordered beef tacos which were tasty and the beans and rice were pleasantly modest in portion and also tasty, not pasty. The salmon was nicely seasoned but a little overcooked. Again, the sides were a better version of the usual, but overall it was the usual Mexican cuisine.
Had high hopes for this place but the dishes lack any spice or flavor to set them apart from other mediocre local Mexican food. The setting is gorgeous however, staff friendly and courteous, and prices are ok.
Sat nite 7:15 reservation for 8 people: the food was good, but the experience was marred by an extremely long wait between appetizer and entree (>45 min) and the attitude of the mgmt. When we inquired after our main course, she answered that they were a full house that night and it was not unusual to wait so long. We were surrounded by empty tables in our section of the diningroom. She didn't seem to understand that an apology or small comp goes a long way to making a customer feel valued. In the end, coffee and dessert were comped, but she had already set the tone. Food was quite good; dessert selection a little lackluster.
Eaten here a couple times while waiting to go see a show next door at the bearsville threater. Food is not bad, not really my style though, neither is the kind of crowd they attract. Hip means nothing to me..it's all about the substance. This place is more hip than the food is good. Again it's not bad food just not great to this guy
The food and location were good. However, when I asked our server for an additional bowl of salsa for our long table of ten, the waiter was somewhat rude and tossed a bowl of salsa from the middle of the table towards our end and said, “Did you not see this?” Throughout the meal, I felt he was dismissive of me, and ignored a couple of my requests. When our entree’s were served, I asked for another bowl of salsa for our meals he said, “I can get you another bowl but it will be three dollars.” Which was fine, but it was his tone. Finally, when we asked him to split the bill between the three families he said he could not do that. Of course, because we had a large party, a 20% gratuity had been added. Little did he know, the woman he was treating so poorly was the person paying the entire bill. He didn’t get an additional tip and in my option, he didn’t deserve the 20% he received. The name on the check was Salvador. If you are the owner of this restaurant, I would complete additional training with this individual as his behavior was extremely offensive.
Service was a little slow and I felt like it was warm inside, but overall the food was great. The drinks were also good, but the person had a very light pour (and that’s coming from someone who rarely drinks). Price is what you expect for the area 🤷🏽♀️.
Very friendly waitstaff, although 3 simple drinks took very long to get from the bar. The food was okay. It was unexpected to find fried fish with skin on in the fish tacos, but it tasted good. Don’t get the sangria - doubtful that there was even wine in it. Tasted like watered down herbal tea.
Nice atmosphere with outdoor seating right along the small river. We had the chimichangas and enchiladas which were fine but not very spicy if that’s what you’re after. Service was nice but they were pretty busy so we had to track down the staff in order to be waited on and for the check.
Beautiful location. But the food can not compete. I feel like a lot of these reviews are fake and misleading. The portions are ridiculously small. The food is okay at best. And that's being generous. It's bland and cold. The amount of time we had to wait was my biggest complaint. I'm not even sure why we had to wait so long for cold food? Took about an hour to get our meals. And the waitress never even came back to check on us. We had to flag someone down to get our check. I'm sad we picked this place to try on vacation.
My worst dining experience ever. I don't say that lightly. And moreover I wish I was joking. I went to Bear Cafe for a meal with my wife and daughter. We attempted to make a reservation via the phone but to no avail as they did not return our call. Oh well, soldier on. We arrived and were told it would take 30 min. Again, no big deal. We were seated promptly actually and excited to eat. Our server greeted us and got our order because we were ravenous and ready to go. We ordered a burger for my daughter, a chicken sandwich for my wife and a rack of lamb for me. We also ordered a Brussel sprouts and French onion soup for an appetizer. After a lengthy wait of 30+ min we still had not received our apps. Our server who had been mostly inattentive to us for refills(yes I would like to order a cocktail) finally says it will be out soon. Just waiting on the soup. So now that it's been recognized that it's slow, we wait another 20 min and see orders of soup and vegetables taken to tables that were seated after us. In fact by the time the appetizers arrived over an hour after ordering I saw two tables come and go in that period. And inevitably my Brussel sprouts were cold because we had to wait 20 min for that soup. Now I am annoyed. We had spoken to another server about our meal because our server was too afraid to approach the table and she made it worse. An apology to say the order had been forgotten or the kitchen had misplaced it would've gone a long way. But nothing there. Finally the manager who has been walking around all night and seemingly taking care of everyone but us finally approaches us. He offers to buy our meal and we are on the verge of leaving. We did not leave because it's after 800 and most restaurants(in Woodstock) close early. I just want to feed my three year old and get her to bed. So we stayed hoping the entrees would arrive soon. We look around and see that the place is thinning out. The lights flicker off and it seems like the night won't end. At 9 pm when we had ordered at 645 our entrees arrive. A burnt burger. A naked piece of chicken for my wife and a raw piece of lamb for me. It took over two hours and our food was grossly presented and incorrect. The chicken sandwich needs the chutney that is listed on the menu and ketchup for two orders of fries. Oh and we would like the salad my wife ordered and not the fries actually. We want to eat and leave. We get that it's a bad night. But now I just want ketchup for my daughter for her crispy burger. I ask my server and she says she will check. She says that they are out of ketchup. Now I get that places run out of things. I have managed two separate places and in my experience I would've found ketchup or gone to the store. The manager walks up and tells us they are indeed out of ketchup. No more explanation. No sincerity. No belief in this mans eyes. The manager was inept, Cold and useless to make this bad situation better. A real apology and attention to our actual order would've made any part of this better. Instead we received a laughably bad meal after a ridiculously long wait. It took us 3 hrs to have our meal. 630 - 930 pm. I exaggerate none of this. I didn't ask for the moon. I didn't want the nicest whiskey or wine on the menu. In fact I turned down a glass of wine. I just wanted to see my food come out in a timely manner after the problem(hour from order to appetizers). I brought up the fact it had been an hour since we received our apps and it was like staring a wall when looking upon the managers face. We walked out without anyone speaking to us. I know the owner and manager were cowering with the server in the kitchen because they didn't want conflict. So here is my conflict. I now take the time to write this in the hopes that Bear Cafe finds new management, cooks, servers, owners or even closes. That's harsh. But my neighbor table told me that for 20 years this place was tops. But the decline is precipitous and steep.
Most of these reviews are from the previous restaurant that was at this location (The bear cafe). First of all, I find that pretty dishonest to try and use the good reviews of the previous business which happened to be at the same location. My review is for Bear cantina. The quality of the food here is very low. The staff are nice, but I'd like to know who hired this chef. If you know anything about Mexican food, you will see that the food here is not even edible.
I ordered a hamburger to go w tater tots and specifically requested no onions (I’m allergic to sulfur) .. when I called to tell them, they hung up on me and wouldn’t answer the phone. Wow Dangerous place to eat & drink Now I may have to call emergency services. Poison. They do not care about customers. They just wanna “look cool” They have people’s lives in their hands Do NOT eat here if you have any food allergies or requirements : I’ll never be back. And what do they care if I have to call 911
This is a very over priced place. When I ordered a jack Daniels and coke they referred to it as a custom item and charged $14.00. The shrimp fajitas come with only 5 shrimp. The bartender had the worst attitude and slow service. There are other really good and priced Mexican restaurants in the area.
We were so excited to try this new restaurant as we like to support our local businesses, we were very disappointed! We had really high expectations because of the positive reviews. It was overpriced for the quality of food we received! For example, a $20 salad consisted of a few pieces of rubbery grilled chicken that we could not eat and a handful of mixed greens. I hope they step up their game so there is a reason to go back to this beautiful spot in Woodstock!
