Great spot to get Taiwanese comfort foods including rice rolls, soups and snacks. This is my go to place for Sesame Pancake with green onion egg and fried dough stick. The dough stick is prepared perfectly and the sesame pancake is super flaky. Very popular place on the weekends.
Almost felt like I was transported to an alleyway in Taipei. Authentic Taiwanese breakfast cuisine. Sure the ambience isn’t quite there and while they don’t necessarily focus on service, you’re there for the incredible food - and that they have in plenty. Scallion pancakes, hot sweetened soy milk w fried dough, chicken soup and of course, their rolls. Easy 5 stars!
I got the egg wrap with spam. It was delicious. Fast and friendly service. I just wish that they kept the place tidy and clean. The tables were sticky and floor looks like it needed to be mopped.
First time trying this place and it was delicious! We had pork soup, double pancakes, eel roll and the Taiwan roll. For only $5.50-6.00 a roll / pancake, it was very filling. We only finished about half the food. The staff was very helpful and friendly, so wanted to commend them on providing a great experience. We will definitely go back to try more items!!!
Their signature rice roll is pretty flavourful, the Place was nice and clean , staff was friendly and patient. a cozy relax place for breakfast.
I think it’s the only rice roll in Houston and it’s great! I ordered Tao roll, it tasted sweet because it added mayonnaise and Taiwanese sausage, which I like it better than the traditional one. Milk tea is great as well but smaller than I thought.
Me and my friend recently found out this place but couldn’t go last time because they closed at 3pm. This time we went around 1pm. We didn’t know what to order so we went with traditional choices: tao pancake and traditional rolls. If you see their menu, you will know the ingredients in the dish. For me, the pancake was not really special. But the roll was quite a new thing. The roll was good but quite dry. I recommend to have with a soup or drink. They have soybean milk. But at the time we ordered they were out of ice. I’m sorry with this hot weather in Houston, I can’t handle hot drink. I think I’ll come back to try other rolls on their menu and of course the iced soybean milk.
This was my first i’m here in my first time having a rice roll. I got the traditional. What an interesting experience. So many different flavors and textures to enjoy with each bite! I don’t come to this area often but when I do I’d come back. One roll was the perfect amount for a satisfactory lunch where you’re not left full or hungry.
Highly recommend this place. The rice roll is amazing!!! Got the traditional roll and the egg bomb roll. Make sure you have the purple rice when you order it. We also ordered the meat wonton soup and the egg pancake - the flavor is amazing!!!

Egg pancake is a must try. The rice roll is okay but I would say egg pancake is better.

The rice roll is excellent, especially with the pork floss inside. The wonton soup and vegetable pancake are okay, but nothing special. I highly recommend the rice roll.

Such a great spot for Taiwanese food! Everything we tried—from rice rolls to pancakes, soups, and dough sticks—was delicious. Perfect for a casual meal!
Awesome place for traditional Taiwanese breakfast. It is delicious and the price is reasonable. Therefore it is usually very busy. I recommend placing the order over the phone ahead and pick up the order. There is also limited space for dine in. I usually order double egg pancake with sausage or tofu, Taiwan rice roll, Eel rice roll, meat ball soup (not the American or Italian meat balls, you should try this dish. It is completely different). If you go after 11am, there are also other soup options that are okay, but I personally only like the meat ball soup

Stopped by Tao Rice Roll about 30 minutes before they closed and they were sold out of all pancake. Got a rice roll- the traditional one which comes with pork floss, egg, fried stick, dried radish, mushroom meat. I liked the crispy bites in the rice roll and the flavor was delicious. Price point decent as well! Located in a plaza with shared parking.
The rice ball with extra fee for purple sticky rice. I love rice ball because it accompanies me through my teen year. I used to go to the local market to buy the rice ball for my breakfast. The cold soy milk tastes like home. I could have two cup of them. The traditional noodle bowl is ok. The least like dish is the juicy dumpling because it’s not juicy at all. Where is the soup?
Lovely Taiwanese style rice wrap! Just like the old days........ savoury soybean milk is not traditional and lack of flavour. Sesame wrap with fried dough with eggs is fairly good. Came back again, food is consistent and good, its comfort food for Taiwanese!
Cool small spot. Had a rice roll that was not what I was expecting. It was still good though. I thought it was the rice roll that’s noodles. I’d comeback here again for a quick breakfast. Place was clean and staff was friendly and patient. Taiwanese milk tea was good tea. Complimented the rice roll well. Great start to my day.
The rice rolls here are not bad, taste-wise. I know it's America, but as a Taiwanese (we have rice rolls on every corner), for the price of one rice roll that I'm paying here, I can get two super jumbo rice roll balls that include all the ingredients. Not only here at Tao, but the rice rolls at 99 Ranch's food court are also pretty expensive. If you've never tried a rice ball or want to have one from time to time, this is the place for you.

I placed the order online but the order was not fulfilled until I got there. he couldn't find my order receipt but then he worked on it quickly. He was friendly though. The food was hot and fresh. it tasted good. The sweet soy milk didn't taste that good. The seating inside the restaurant was very limited.
Is a very small place with few tables. Obviously, is designed for take out. The foods looks attractive but nothing really stand out come to the taste. The Xiao Long Bao is pretty good. The Salty Soy Milk totally tasteless, not even a hint os salty at all.
Not what I was expecting. Tastes like a pork bun roll but on rice instead. Bacon roll, had a sweet bbq sauce, bacon, lettuce ,& pork floss. Sausage roll, had sausage and pork floss. Sesame pancake, had thin scrambled egg with green onion & some sort of bread stick. The sesame pancake wrap was super flaky! $20 for 3 rolls

When I went to buy lunch at noon, the service staff had a bad attitude. I bought a fried dough stick, soy milk and rice balls. I didn't expect that my stomach began to feel uncomfortable after eating. I don't know if it's because of the freshness of the food or something else, but I won't come again. The taste is also lower than that of the Shugrand store. If it weren't for the proximity, I would never come to the China City store.
Ambiance was a little chaotic for me. The seating is VERY limited and it’s a order and sit type of place. Make sure you bring some disinfectant wipes because they don’t go around to wipe down tables for you. I mean you can ask but they don’t have many people working so I’m not sure if they’ll give you a towel to wipe it down yourself or if they’ll do it. Service is ok…it gave me a fast food type of feeling. You order and they’ll call out your number to get your food. The person that took my order missed one of my order for the rice roll, but I’m glad because I tried my daughters and I didn’t care for it at all. Menu by the cashier was a little confusing for me since I’ve never been there before. It has the name of the roll and then it’ll list the ingredients under each roll. The “hot” drinks weren’t hot it was more like warm hot and both the sweet soy milk and ny style milk tea was very bland. Unfortunately I would not be returning.

Food is decent, but they absolutely cannot handle taking online orders. I would place my order thirty minutes ahead of time, but the food wouldn't be made by the time I get there because they keep the tablet they use for online orders out of sight under the counter. This has happened more than once. The staff has never been rude to me but are disorganized and from what mandarin I can understand they don't have a system to keep track of orders and would try to figure out amongst themselves if customers got their order yet. They quickly corrected the mistake, but this shouldn't be a common occurrence.
