I enjoyed the margarita. the food was pretty good. the atmosphere was pretty upbeat. there is a nice bar area semi separated from other guests. the service was pretty good (which is hard to find currently). will definitely come back
The tamale plate was absolutely amazing. The bartender told me that they are made in house which make sense due the size.. They where big and packed with flavor. I definitely will get again
Wow! What a huge menu. We had 3 dishes: the Texas Shrimp, 3 cheese enchiladas and beef/chicken fajitas. Everything was great! One exception: the $4.99 house margarita was weak, but the upgraded $8.99 one was better. Busy place in the bar room, not a place for a quiet romantic dinner, but a great trendy place for a good time. Younger crowd.
My wife and I had wanted to eat here for some time. We noticed the restaurant every time we passed by heading to Harker Heights or Killeen. We finally made it today after an appointment in Harker Heights and the food was well worth the stop! Only took us a couple of minutes to decide what we wanted; food was delicious and the portions were just right. The service was great and that decor was very nice. We most definitely will be back anytime we’re in the area.
As per their usual, food was outstanding! However, what outshined the deliciousness, was our server. I wish we got her name. She is engaged to the gentleman that delivered our food, and attends Texas A & M on the left handed scholarship. Our server was incredibly sweet, attentive and truly exhibited all of the qualities this establishment embodies! Having worked in the food industry myself, it's hard to impress me with service, and she truly did!!
Best Mexican food in the area, and my server Sebastian was attentive and gave me the best service I’ve ever had in a restaurant
Food was fabulous and our waitress was amazing..wish I would have gotten her name. I did mention it to the manager though how great she was. She deserves some type of incentive or acknowledgement...shes awesome. I would definitely go their again and recommend this place. Loved it.❤❤❤
The Service was Great and the Food was not Expensive and Great Quality and taste was Excellent. Our Waitress did a GREAT JOB keeping our Drinks Filled I would tell all my Friends to go there.
Get the 3 taco plate!!! I had an enchilada plate with a taco. Taco was out of this world! Enchiladas were also very good. The chips and salsa are wonderful. I will be going back to this place. The restaurant is real nice inside. Our waitress was a very sweet woman. My son had the macaroni and cheese plate from the kids menu. It must have been good, he ate all of the noodles and drank the remaining cheese sauce.
Good food, great service. A little pricey but well worth it
EL CORONEL PLATE was delicious one of my favorites. The best Carne guisada and cheese enchiladas portions were right on. Served very hot food stayed warm until the last bite.
We have never been disappointed eating here. The karaoke nights are fun and when there is a DJ the music is always good! We are locals and will frequently visit
El Mexicano catered fajitas for 20 people. The food was excellent. Everyone had plenty to eat and enjoyed all the sides. The charro beans were really good. Be careful transporting them since we had a little spill. We will use them again!
Dang you get a lot of delicious food for the price. Can't wait to go back. And the bartender is great.
Great ambience, friendly staff, amazing food. Everything under the sun to eat that accommodates adults and children. Overall great place and great experience!
Eduardo our server took really good care of my family which were 7 at the time. Eduardo was very attentive and very knowledgeable of the menu explaining anything we needed help with. Very hospitable and kind and friendly.
The taste of the food in all the dishes that come to the table was good, the only details are one steak ordered medium was more in to the well-done side, my barrio bowl was good but the meat was dry And the lengua en salsa verde was also in to the dry side but good flavors.
We are locals and this is our spot! Best Fajitas & Margaritas in the area guaranteed! Sit in the bar for a lively music experience. We LOVE this place 🍻 BTW Edgar was our server! Treated my kids like his own and waited on their million refills requests. He’s a man among men!
Extremely fast and friendly service, delicious food and very well priced. Giant portions. Chips and salsa were served to us the second we sat down and our entire meal came within 5 minutes. They treat my 1 year old so well and have a crayon and paper for the children too. The food is very well priced. Very impressed and will return here again!
This is my family's favorite restaurant! We drive from Killeen just to eat and always make sure to sit in Mrs Angela's section. She's absolutely amazing in so many ways! I highly recommend visiting. Their cold spicy salsa is 🔥🔥 You definitely need to visit!
I have been coming to this establishment for years, as well as there other locations. But this location is my far the best one. The waitstaff is always friendly, attentive and all around great, the food never fails to be less than delicious, and the margaritas are the best! My absolute favorite place to eat and have drinks!
Food was awesome. Place was booming! Parties going on. Music was playing in the bar side and it wasn't too loud. Kids were laughing. Staff was smiling. Perfect Friday night family atmosphere. You gotta go see for yourself. I've been to this place every day of the week over the years. If something isn't right just tell them. They will make it right immediately.
Just moved back to Texas our home state. Lived in South Carolina for a few years. We missed central Texas/South Texas Mexican food. El Mexicano was fantastic. Food, drinks and service were top notch. Definitely one of our favorite local hot spots.
Food was very very good, and $6.99 for lunch special made it even better! Guacamole looked freshly made, and we watched our waitress mix in fresh cilantro and jalepenos when she brought it to the table. Beef fajita meat was cuttable with my fork. The Mexican rice was outstanding -- moist and flavorful. Chips were crispy, 2 flavors of fresh salsa. Thet offer healthy fruit drink menu selections, but they were out of 3 of the 4. This place was a great choice.
Ordered the seafood soup for something lighter for lunch. Soup was exceptional! Seasoned perfectly with wonderful seafoody flavor! Had to have at least dozen or more of medium sized shrimp with tails. Also octopus, and a fish fillet. A little price but totally worth it!! Absolutely recommend! Next time I will take a picture!
Love the Barbacoa and Breakfast Tacos! Ate here 3 times within the 3 days while We where back visiting in Temple/Belton Texas :)
Homemade corn tortillas! Food Still good!! Our order consisted of two dishes one menudo YUMM! And Carne Asada plate. Another visit was Siete Marez soup (seafood soup: octopus, mussels, fish, shrimp, squid, crab and clams) with vegetables (chayote, cabbage, carrots) and menudo again Drinks: Horchata and Lemonade PLUS THEY BROUGHT BACK THE 3 DIPPING CONDIMENTS OF REFRIED BEANS, CLASSIC COLD SALSA, and Ranchero (cooked hot) SALSA for the chips!!!!! Ty waitresses are attentive here. My husband and I always enjoy visiting here.
This is our favorite restaurant in Belton. Any time we pass thru, we stop. The food is great and it is quiet. When our babies were small, the waitresses would even come over and play or hold them. We love the family friendly atmosphere here and consider it to be one of our top ten best stops along I-35.
Went with my son on Veteran’s Day surprisingly they weren’t busy for dinner. This is last night I apologize to our hostess I forgot to get her name. She was attentive, friendly, made sure to not let us sit waiting. All the waitstaff made sure to check on all customers so no one got overlooked. Bar was included. Good food, charro beans were so good! Spanish rice was flavorful. Bathroom was clean and orderly. Have been before and will continue to come back!
We had the Birria & Quesabirria and it was absolutely outstanding. I’ve been craving it since I had it like a week ago actually. I live in Waco but was down visiting my grandma and now I need a Belton trip just for some more of this lol. Margaritas from here are also always top tier, as well as the queso and salsa. Everything I’ve ever tried, actually. Fantastic place.
This restaurant has very good food. We had wonderful service, our first time visiting this restaurant and we was definitely pleased. All of the food was fresh and tasted so good. We tried some of their drinks they make there and they were also delicious. If you want good Mexican food that is fresh and friendly service, this is your place to go.
Great food great service no wait at all very friendly I highly recommend this place the prices are great as well as the portions they serve! I highly recommend this place I loved it and will go back** update... I can't believe I forgot to add this but when you order the guacamole, they make it right in front of you that was a personal touch that I truly enjoyed also again I highly highly recommended this place!

Always love the margaritas and food here. Service is very good. My only complaint is having to smell Fabuloso while I eat.🙃
Ambience was really nice, food presentation was beautiful, full bar and great service! The reason only 4 stars instead of 5 is because I did not care for their hamburger meat in everything it tasted like dog food; I do wish they would use a better quality hamburger that actually tastes like hamburger. The taco Kama tostada and enchilada all 3 had the same yucky meat.
The hot sauce with the chips just about killed us! However, our meal was outstanding and the portions were larger than most restaurants. The staff were all very friendly and on top of things.
Got asked for our drink orders by 3 different members of wait staff., they forgot our tortillas and brought me the wrong drink. Overall though, it was delicious! I'll most likely be back the next time I'm in the area.
Food was good, lot of choices and generous helping of dishes, authentic Mexican foods, plenty of seating and parking. The waitress was very helpful, precise with our orders and great atmosphere.
I love picking people's brains about places we should try. It just so happened that my barber suggested El Mexicano. It is her favorite spot and she said you have to go for the drink special. Well, I marked it down as a must do and then needed to find a place that night to take the wife. I can understand her mentioning the drinks as it comprises the first 3 pages of the menu. So, they take it seriously. They also take their salsas seriously. In the picture you will see their house salsa, bean dip and a spicier salsa served warm. The trio hits each of your needs from refreshing to heat. We ordered a chimichanga with fajita beef (covered in queso and gravy) and a Texas quesadilla with fajita beef. The quesadilla is quite a bit of food and had a good sear on the meat. The chimichanga was good, gravy excellent and that hotter salsa hit the spot. Our server was awesome and we will undoubtedly be back to try some more of the menu...and maybe even some drinks.
I've been here a few times as it's close to my office in Belton. I've always been pleased with the tacos and enchilada lunches I've here but today I got the grill chicken lunch and I gotta say I was extremely surprised at a) how huge the chicken breast was and, b) how amazing it tasted. Perfectly juicy and tender with a fantastic flavor. Combined with salad, rice, and a side of tortillas it's easily one of the best lunch specials for the price around in my book. EDIT: I'm adding a bit of constructive criticism. I still love this place, but having been here many, many times since my original post I'm leaning more toward a 2.5 or 3 star rating instead of a 4 star rating because of food temperature inconsistency. Sometimes my dish is piping hot like it was just made, other times the same dish is luke warm at best. Similarly, sometimes one thing on my plate is piping hot and another thing on the same plate is room temperature. This tells me there's some sort of logistics issue in the kitchen. The flavors are still on point, but I am concerned there's a lack of coordination and efficiency in the kitchen and/or expediting process that need to be addressed.
Food was pretty good. I had cheese enchiladas and a giant mug of Shiner Bock. Service was great. Clean. Plenty of parking.

It used to be pretty good. They have a free dip bar on the weekdays that's pretty good. Unfortunately they changed the way they cook their beef fajita meat. Now they use a tenderizer and must have changed the seasoning to where it tastes like ground beef instead of fajitas.
I’ve eaten at this place for years. Great food! The breakfast tacos are amazing. Just make sure you ask for egg!!! I always thought that egg is a no- brainer. Its always on a breakfast taco. Guess not. I ordered and got sausage and cheese. NO EGG. WTF?? If the people taking your order over the phone spoke better English it would be easier. Not so much repeating and talking “baby talk”. My kids love it! That says a lot. Never seen any roaches in there like I’ve read on here. So great food, comes out fast nice people. Just learn English better!!!!
The food is great but had to only give 3 stars because we sat for 30 minutes without even being served a drink. After someone did finally come to our table service was still very slow and the restaurant wasn't that busy. Make sure you have plenty of time and patience if you decide to stop here.
Their food is ok. There are other better places in town.
Service was good. The food wasn’t bad. Respectfully, it was very white washed Mexican food. Chips and salsa were good. The queso dip was really good! We’re looking for our go to Mexican restaurant locally, unfortunately this one isn’t it.
The food is hit or miss. Some dishes are good, and some are not. The Mexican martini was very good. The margaritas were not good. The enchilada was poor. The rice and beans were ok. The taco asada was good, and the Molcajite was decent. The Molcajite was stacked, not very hot. It seems like they placed precooked items into it, poured some sauce on, and served. With that said, the sauce was great! The meat was food, and the cheese was fantastic. I think the prep and presentation could be much better, and I think the meats cooked in that sauce with the cheese melted bubbling over everything would have been mind-blowing. The fact it was all just placed in there and heated just didn't set this apart from all other mediocre places that make these. All in all it was ok but it's a gamble on what you will really enjoy and what you won't.
This was New Years Day, no waiting for two. The service was good. I will have to say the food was ok. The Spanish rice had flavor, the beans seemed kind of like paste, no signs of beans. The beef w…
Food 2.5/5 service 2/5 atmosphere 2/5 I don’t like to judge but this place needs self investment to mitigate the issues such as food quality, service and cleanliness. This place has potential but needs some work.
Usually a great place....but not now. Service was slow, meal was wrong. They did not have clean glasses, we were given to go cups instead. Ordered queso, got chip pieces to dip with. We were offered new ones but they never arrived. Serving staff was to busy chatting to proved adequate service. This was at 2:30 in the afternoon and it was slow!
The breakfast taco was delicious but my rating goes down to a 2 star because their website lists the price per taco was $1.64, but they charged $2.60 per taco because they said the website is wrong and needs to be updated. They would not honor the price on the website.
Went on a Friday night, our food was cold, and the manager didn't offer to remake it for us. That he would give us a discount! The discount was not even $4.00. What a joke! The server asked if I would like a box for my food. I said" yes...I can take it home and warm it up , so I can eat it."
We have been coming here for 10 years and my husband orders a pork chop taco. We have never had any problem until now. Our server told us no more pork chop tacos. First of all, the owner told him it was fine. It wasn’t on the menu but they would make it. That’s why we always come here. Our server told us today the cook would make it for him but no more. So long story short they just lost a long time breakfast customer.
I was very disappointed this last visit since we usual don't go often but when we do, it never dissapoibts the way it dis this last visit. Beans were very burnt, wife couldn't even finish her food. The sodas had no carbonation in them so we got tea after noticing that and the biscuits for the sausage egg and cheese biscuits were cold. Again, we hardly go but when we do go, it is amazing but it failed us this time Hopefully manager of the kitchen starts spotting these things soon to avoid losing customers
Upon my arrival, I waited for 12 minutes before receiving any acknowledgment. Upon receiving my tortilla soup order, I noticed they had placed the tortilla chips in the soup, resulting in them becoming soggy by the time I got home. I enjoy the crunch of tortilla chips and didn't get to enjoy them.
Service always sucks, they are polite none the less you are on there time and preference goes to the regulars or the ones that look like they will tip well. Food is not bad infact pretty good however not worth the business or impartiality. We go elsewhere based on this fact. We have tried it several times more than five but that does seem to be the case service sucks.
Service was not good! Had one small bowl of chips and salsa and no refills. No water refills and had to find waitress to get more tea. Food was very mediocre. Got cheese enchiladas and it was cheese tortilla and cheese on top.. had to ask for red sauce for top? Won’t return to this spot
We’ve been loyal customers for years, coming here several times a week. The food is generally good, though consistency depends on who’s in the kitchen—sometimes it’s excellent, other times just okay. The service is usually fast and friendly. But here’s the deal: we’ve started going to other taquerias because the frozen margaritas have taken a nosedive. They used to be great, but now they’re just slushy, melting way too fast and turning into a watery mess. A proper frozen margarita should stay frozen—not feel like something from a gas station slushy machine. Please bring back the real frozen margaritas. Fix the margarita machine, or you’ll keep losing regulars like us.
Does anyone know when the actual restaurant is opening back up? They’ve been remodeling for a couple months now..
The first time we went here. It was really good for breakfast then we went again for dinner and unfortunately, it was just a greasy slab of I don’t even know what.. as some advice from someone who frequently goes to establishments to eat and does look at the atmosphere of the place, having political views on the news on every TV isn’t recommended. Also, we were charged $30 for one margarita only because I requested patron tequila even though the menu stated it was a top shelf so I think we were definitely overcharged for that and unfortunately we will not return to this establishment.
We use to love going to this restaurant but after last night, we are done going there. It was 3 of us and we had some food and beer. They never told us that we would be charged gratuity on the alc…

Me and boyfriend have been coming here for almost a year now. The servers are amazing and do their job to the best of their knowledge but The food is ALWAYS cold, the owners wife voices her opinion to the servers but can NEVER talk to the customers about the horrible experience. Every time we come here and it’s horrible we try to talk with the owner just to let them know our experiences and how The food is cold EVERY time that we come here and we STILL come.we sent back cold food yet AGAIN today and the owners wife said that the food wasn’t cold when clearly it was cold. All customers want is a happy server and their food served hot but for some reason they can NEVER get that part right.
I have always loved their food and drinks but this morning we got breakfast tacos that cost $32 and the quality was bad. Some were wrong & only a couple pieces of meat in each taco. Didn’t even get chips.
We order tortilla soup after waiting 30min. An watch other people that came in after us an got there food. They finally noticed an came to tell us it takes longer to make the soup! What a lie.. very disappointment they were to busy taking. Never came to check on us. All lady’s there are very rude. Bad service. Will not go back. They don’t deserve not even one star. . Everyone I recommend Mi Pueblo on Main Street. Went there after leaving Mexican Grill. We got our food fast . Great service!! Great food. .
Came to dine in but were never approached other than to give us chips and salsa. It was just the two of us sitting and the moment a large table of people came in and sat next to us, that was pretty much it! When that large group came in, we were instantly forgotten about. No waitress came to our table and she never returned to ask us about drinks or an order. Very rude and will not eat there again!
Used to be our favorite place to eat for years. After tonight, not anymore!! The last few times the food has been wrong and cold. Tonight our waitress (short, older lady) got mad because she got our order wrong. .I didn't eat the wrong/cold food and said I wasn't paying for it. We waited over 45 minutes to get tacos... some of our friends walked in after us, 6 people at their table, got served and were done eating ready to go before we even saw our food.I didn't eat the wrong/cold food and said I wasn't paying for it. We paid for 2 out of 4 plates. She got super aggressive and snatched the pen out of my hand, scratched my finger and left marks on my hand. We will never be back. They have lost a long time loyal customer.
We went in for breakfast. We were promptly greeted , given menu and our drinks. Took a bit for our server to take our order and then it was a wait for our food to arrive. My food arrived about 4 or 5 minutes before my husband got his order. My husband ordered country fried steak and eggs. Steak was hard, crunchy and had no kind of gravy on it. He said it was the worst he'd ever had. Country fried steak is his favorite breakfast. He's a truck driver and has eaten them all over the country and in the best and worst of places so for him to say this was the worst. Well, that says something huge. I ordered the divorce eggs , on the menu it's written in Spanish. Eggs were luke warm. Potatoes had no flavor, no seasoning, and no browning or color other than bland almost like they had been boiled and then fried for a minute and that's it. It was just not a good food experience. Not good at all. We don't normally go out to eat at all. We eat at home. Being a truck driver my husband eats out a lot so I enjoy cooking up good meals for him. Going out together for a meal is a treat. This was a huge disappointment and just solidifies the why's to why we eat at home. This place really needs to do better.
Do not order from this place! We called our order for pick up and they did not put our complete order in the bags. I had to go back to the restaurant and they made me bring the half of the food that they gave us, just to end up giving me what was missing! They do not pay attention to details and we ended up having to reheat our food! Because it was cold! Just horrible service!! First and last time we’ll go to this Mexicano Bar and Grill. This would never have happened at the Sparta Rd. location! Ugh!!!
Very Judgmental I’m glad I kept my composure but can’t eat in peace with sum predator looking people eyeing you down. Like y’all ain’t never seen someone from the hood? Many uncomfortable faces just starring you down. Never again there💯the 2 waiters I had were good but took a long time coulda just been serving people so I didn’t trip, but I try being a good person I really do but feels like they just wanna bring the bad side out of you. Very bad negativity
They were rushing us to get out with out really telling us but basically moping and turning the lights off giving us the check and a Togo box literally as we were eating. Why say you close at 12pm if you don’t? Really unprofessional. We were still eating and the fact that they literally mopped and the floor was slippery and the lights were off as we were making our way out was so rude and disrespectful. The only reason we went here was because it closed late because we know how it is when people arrive 30 min before closing. We arrived at 10:30. El sol de Jalisco has way better food and service. Nos estaban corriendo a las 10:57pm cuando cierran a las 12pm
It will be a long time before I come back to this place to eat. I ordered fajitas and when I took a bite I noticed something different, when another person I had lunch with said something about his fajita taco, "I said does it taste like lime?" I told the Waitress that I didn't like it that way, the head waitress comes to the table and tells me that they have always cooked with lime. I told her that I have been coming here a while and never has the food taste like that before. The other guest that complained also with me just sat there while others ate their chicken fajitas that had no lime flavor in it. So the restaurant has lost its quality in my opinion.
We have eaten here annually for several years while attending a retreat. Never again. First she got the drink order wrong. Then it took forever to get the food. Or I should say some of the food. By the time my plate was brought out the other 4 members of my party were almost finished with their food. To top that my order was completely wrong. I told the waitress to take it back & bring me my ticket for my drinks. 45 minutes later we asked again for the tickets. When they finally got there they were completely wrong. So she regenerated new tickets but only some were correct. I left at this point so I don't know if it ever got straight. Not once did management come over to see what the peoblem was. So I finished my evening hungry and frustrated to the point of tears. It was a totally horrible experience that ruined my whole evening.
I’ve been going to this place for years & it’s usually decent service. But over the last few months every time I have went in the group of girls at the front is rude and unprofessional. This is not the way you treat your customers and yall burrito was falling apart too. To sit there and make fun of a paying customer because they can’t pronounce a food in Spanish when they’re trying to order. The fact that they even tried to make it easier for you when ordering. Very unprofessional. Most places will fire you for speaking behind a customers back loud enough to where they can hear you. Should really think about the impression you leave to customers spending money at your business.
The food is great and service is good. However, be careful when you put a tip on your credit card. They ran the original amount and then the amount with the tip. They did this twice to me. When I went and spoke with them the issue got escalated to the owner. She showed no type of customer service and told me this normally happens and that it will fall of on it’s own. I had to advise her the charges were charged not pending and in fact my funds would not “fall off.” She then told me to give my information to someone in the staff and will look into it. It has been almost 2 months and still no call back. It’s unfortunate that the food is good and received better customer service from the staff than the owner. You do not escalate a situation to someone higher just so in turn the owner disregards the issue and tells you to just give your contact information to someone in the staff. Sorry, but she could have taken my information, shown empathy, and acknowledged the issue. I had to have the issue resolved with my bank which they advised they are processing the payments incorrectly and in fact, have been charged twice. One of the regular amount and the second the full amount with the tip included.
My husband and I have came here for years and always had a good experience until tonight. My son's pizza looked like something you would feed to your dogs, and my husband's order was all wrong. Definitely not happy with our experience tonight.
Showed up at 6am since that was when it was supposed to open. No one was there but one person in the back. Actually watched another customer go in through an open door, turn the lights/Tvs on and sit down at a table. We went in and sat for over 10 minutes without seeing a single employee. Been eating there off and on for well over 10 years and the food and service have steadily declined. Unfortunate since it's a great location, but there are many other great choices in the area.
They tell you to have a seat wherever you want then don't come to your table for 20 minutes and ask if you want anything to eat or drink. I watched them serve everyone else in the restaurant but me...... Never coming back and I really used to like coming to this place!! Never again!!
Staff and customers keep reaching over for to go plates and there was water all under my feet and the food was so so. I won't be be returning
Employees were friendly. However, the food tasted like dirt. We were better off eating the plants that are outside. The food had no flavor, it was cold and the taco shell was stale. The lettuce was brown, and the tomatoes was over ripe. The water tasted like sewage. Overall, terrible
