Opinions de El Barrio Bilbao
Food, and service were excellent. The food was seasoned just right. It's not your traditional Mexican food, or Tex Mex variety. It's more gourmet type. The server was very helpful and courteous. Parking was a little challenging but we were able find Parking across the street. I would definitely recommend the Carne Asada plate, and the guacamole, both were delicious!
That wasn’t my first visit to El Barrio. I liked it the one time I went before and decided to go for lunch there today, and I’m glad I did. The server recommended the beef quesadillas, and it was an excellent recommendation. The beef brisket is so tender, juicy, perfectly seasoned and cooked, and the chipotle sauce was the best complement to that dish. A perfect lunch on a dreary day. Will certainly go back to try more dishes.
This was only my second time eating here as I forget how good the food is and how remarkable the service is. I will not forget this time. Our waitress was absolutely amazing! A friend I was eating with spilled her drink, and I feel like before the glass hit the table our waitress was right there with towels. EXCEPTIONAL service!!
Had the mole chicken and a tequila flight at El Barrio, and both were excellent. The mole was rich, complex, and well-balanced—deep flavor without being overpowering, with tender chicken and thoughtful plating. The tequila flight was a standout too, offering a great progression from bright and clean to smooth and oak-forward, with knowledgeable notes that elevated the experience. Solid food, great drinks, and a fun neighborhood vibe. Definitely worth a visit.
food was outrageous. had both types of pork tacos, didn't want to put to much salsa on because the flavors were so good. corn tortillas were killer. the brisket quesadilla was one of the tastiest things I've ever eaten. the salad was a nice touch. the most plentiful N/A beer selection I've ever seen. both bartenders were friendly and attentive. one had a great stash. one of my best dining experiences in Alabama.
I have a suggestion. The music needs to be changed if is a "Mexican" restaurant called el Barrio (the hood) translated into Spanish. I didn't enjoy my meal and drinks because of the music. But over all is great restaurant food was delicious and drinks amazing. I was surprised by the menu and drinks. The staff was very helpful friendly and accommodated us to be comfortable while waiting for a table. I do recommend 100% and I will be back
Outstanding. Our waitress rocked and suggested the plantain chips and they were amazingly crispy and tasty. My shrimp tacos were wonderful and filling. My wife got the brisket quesadilla and it was delicious and filling. It gets crowded so allow potential wait time. Bar seating is available first come first serve. A really great experience!! Park on the street or pay parking lots nearby.
Margaritas are strong and the chips with queso came out hot. Had the carnitas tacos, meat was tender with good flavor. Place has a fun energy, music isn't too loud. Good for groups.
This place was honestly a breakthrough moment for me. I needed this outing so badly, and I’m so glad I chose El Barrio over the other restaurant I was considering. From the minute I walked in, the vibe just hit me warm, comforting, and calming. My whole nervous system felt like it could finally relax. The ambiance is beautiful, the decor is so intentional, and the energy felt peaceful and inviting. It’s definitely one of those restaurants you have to see in person to get the full vibe. But let’s talk about the service, because that’s what made my whole night. I had the amazing Jeremiah behind the bar. He said he’s normally a server, but he worked that bar like a pro. Super engaging, patient, helpful, and honestly just comforting. He recommended their seasonal cranberry margarita 10/10. They change them every season! Then I ordered a non-alcoholic sangria; the first one was a little tart, and without hesitation he replaced it with a sweeter version that was perfect. He checked on me consistently, made me feel cared for without overdoing it, and he didn’t even know how much I needed someone to just be kind that night. Sometimes people sit at the bar to release the stress they’re carrying, and Jeremiah truly lifted mine without even realizing it. Thank you, Jeremiah. For food, I ordered: • Shrimp Ceviche – Fresh and flavorful. The only thing I didn’t love was the soggy tortilla chip in the middle that held the stack together it was in the way but I understood why but just ask for chips to make it as a dip. Next time I’m getting it with plantain chips because that would have been perfect since it was a very refreshing appetizer! • Elote Asado (Corn on the Cob) – Good flavor, but the cob was small so it felt like there wasn’t enough corn. So don’t order the small cob like I did lol. They load it with mayo (which I love), so next time I’m trying it off the cob and I’ll make it a large! • Carne Asada – The STAR of the night. I will never forget this meal. The sirloin steak was juicy and seasoned perfectly, the sauce tied everything together beautifully, and the chile potato gratin on the side with the Arugula salad with onion was so FLAVORFUL, comforting and rich. Now I understand why the person next to me only ordered the carne asada it’s fulfilling on its own. This is the dish I’ll come back for every single time. And it was only $26 🤭 Everything was seasoned, flavorful, authentic which is rare to find at many Mexican restaurants. The entire staff was friendly, moving with teamwork and flow, and it just made the whole experience even better. This restaurant gave me great food, great energy, and a moment of peace I didn’t know I needed. I’m so happy I came here, and I’ll definitely be back. ✨🌮❤️
My wife and I drove to Birmingham from Atlanta to see Leon Bridges play at the new Coca Cola Amphitheater.. We had an Air B&B guest that is from the area and said this place was in my wheelhouse. We walked up and it had a good crowd already with a few couples waiting for tables.. We opted for the community seating table next to another couple going to the show. We were just inside to the left in a little area that was perfect.. We had the queso with the peppers and chorizo added to start and then moved on to the asada steak with a potato cake made with hatch chilies. My wife had the green chili enchiladas and some charro beans. Our waitress was great.. her recommendations were exactly what we were looking at and that made it easy. She was very attentive
I know a lot of us vacation in the panhandle and traveling with any allergy can be very challenging. We found this restaurant in Birmingham, AL. Amazing!! They go above and beyond to make sure there isn’t any cross contamination. We recommend 10/10. Add to your favorites in your maps incase you ever need a safe place while traveling. I got the steak tacos and my fiancé got the plantain nachos. They were very flavorful. We will definitely be back!
I was so happy when we finally went early enough to get into this very popular eatery. So many times we tried but the place was packed so the secret is to get there by 5, Florida early bird style. Loved the cocktails and our bartender made great recommendations. The food was also excellent as expected. Hope to return soon.
My wife and I love this place! Every time we visit Birmingham, we always make it a point to visit two restaurants and this is one of them. The food, the atmosphere and the service is always excellent. My only gripe is a personal preference one. Why, please tell me why y’all changed the enchilada recipe?! It was one of the best dishes on the menu and now I think I’ll pass because of the corn like bisque that seems to be all I taste when eating the enchiladas. Again, that’s my personal preference. This place is excellent!
Walked and had chips and dip to start. Surprised they didn't provide free chips and salsa. Ambience was unimpressive. Tacos were great. Split steak and carnitas tacos orders with my wife. They were amazing. I used there house arbol hot sauce, it was tasty. Servers were all nice and checked in regularly. Food makes the place.
To start, parking is very hard to find (unless you pay) but location is great. Went on a Friday night, took us right in. However we were not expecting to share a table. It was a bit noisy and crowded in there, felt claustrophobic. Staff was nice, decent price for food, clean environment. Food was just okay. We both agreed it’s nothing special but we did enjoy our time. (We had cheese dip, beer, bacon quesadilla, and steak tacos)
The short ribs were very tender and very nicely seasoned. The potato taquitos were really good. The "El Barrio" margarita was excellent! The bartenders were nice and answered all our questions, as we were first timers. Our server kept a smile on his face and was super nice. Can't wait to go back!
Food and service was great. The atmosphere is nice, but a bit noisy due to the openness of the restaurant. The only negative I have about the food is the small portion size. And you need to order salsa as none is brought to the table automatically as in many restaurants with Mexican inspired cuisine. The bar is inviting and they also have daily specials that sound delicious.
El Barrio was great, we stopped in for dinner before a Barons game while we were in town. The Good was Excellent!! My wife had the Quesadilla, I had the El Pastor Tacos and both were some of the best we have ever had! Great food and great prices! The home made hot sauces are a must try as well
The food was.good but no margarita pitchers and the top shelf margarita was mid at best. The server was super.rude taking 1 persons drink before they were done and coping an attitude once we asked it corrected. We also tried to tequila flight they were out of 2 of the 3 tequilas and all were served warm with no salt. Over all pricey elevated food with subpar drinks.
