Made reservations to celebrate our 46th anniversary. First time here, drove in from Charlotte. Atmosphere is great. Omwe were sat on the patio, with the fireplace and heaters it seemed warmer than inside and was a nice area. We both ordered the Cuban crepe which was great. Also order mac and cheese and sweet potatoe fries. We finished with the chocolate and cherry bread pudding with ice cream. A great desert. Server was outstanding! One comment would be to fix the two lights out in the lot, for a couple of older folks it would have been helpful. Thanks.
Smoked duck ramen had my attention and wow, it did not disappoint. This bistro is great for casual lunch or a nice date night dinner. We enjoyed the wood fired brussels as well! The staff was friendly and attentive.
Went with a group of 7 ladies and thoroughly enjoyed our time there. From our drinks to the main course, the food & service was exceptional. I highly recommend the Roasted Figs appetizer, which you can get wrapped in prosciutto. I also suggest the Crab Cakes, Salmon, or a burger…I didn’t eat any of those things, but based on my friends responses to their meals, I would say they were delicious!
REGRET TO INFORM YOU THAT BISTRO ROCA IS CLOSED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE DUE TO A MAJOR FIRE – REBUILD IS ANTICIPATED – FIVE STARS to Bistro Roca in Blowing Rock! Excellent food and service in a relaxed, casual atmosphere. From superb comfort food prepared in a wood-burning stove to upscale, meticulously crafted dishes, everything is top-notch. Bistro Roca is also home to Antler’s Bar — North Carolina’s oldest continuously operating bar, open since 1932! See attached menu plus a couple of our lunch selections, including their 'famous' Fried Chicken salad!
This was our first time having lunch at Bistro Roca, and it was a wonderful experience! We sat out on the porch, which was peaceful, cooler than inside, and much quieter - a perfect spot to enjoy a relaxing meal. We ordered the Fried Green Tomato BLT and the Cuban Crepe - both were fresh, delicious, and beautifully presented. We’ll definitely be coming back. Highly recommend this gem in Blowing Rock!
Hidden gem of a place. Every single item from apps, entrées, to dessert hit in every profile. Back end knows what they are doing and even foh is very friendly and efficient! Will be back with more friends and family.
We had an excellent experience from start to finish. The service was outstanding, and every dish exceeded our expectations. We started with the figs and spring rolls, both of which were absolutely delicious. For our entrées, we enjoyed the ribeye and crab cakes — each cooked to perfection and full of flavor. We ended the meal with the bread pudding, which was the perfect sweet finish. The restaurant is also conveniently located just a scenic walk from The Embers Hotel, making the evening even more enjoyable. We’re already looking forward to our next visit!
We were really impressed by the food! Two apps, 4 mains, and a desert…all great. Pleasant somewhat dark interior with a large bar area in a quiet part of town. Great.
Great food....Ethan was great waiter. Calimari may be the best we ever had. Pizza was very good. The best silverware EVER...and I love good tools.
There are so many good things to say about this restaurant, it's hard to know where to start. Our waitress Julia was outstanding. She was happy, helpful, friendly and attentive. The food was delicious. The pizzas we chose off the menu both had very unique flavours. Each bite was like fireworks in your mouth. The wines and warm cocktails were great. Perfect for a cool winters eve. The bourbon pecan bar was a hit for dessert too. And best of all it all came out quickly! Great work Bistro Roca! If we were local to the area, we'd be regulars.
Our first time here. We were presently surprised of how the staff took excellent care of us. Miranda was awesome! Our favorite was the lobster Mac & cheese and the chocolate cheese cake. We will be back!
A friend recommended we try Bistro Roca, and we’re very glad that we managed to get a 5pm reservation on short notice. The atmosphere is rustic and cozy, and it’s not too loud even when crowded. The service was very good, and the food was even better. I was impressed with the Caesar Salad dressing; while it’s a little creamier than my ideal, it has a real bite to it, unlike most restaurant Caesar dressings. The Roasted Figs w/Prosciutto were yummy indeed, the BR Burger was perfectly cooked medium rare and BIG (easily enough for lunch today), our daughter loved the Artisan Pepperoni pizza, and my wife barely left a crumb of her Cuban Crepe (she started so fast, I didn’t get a photo) on her plate. My wife enjoyed one of their IPAs, and my Maibock tasted like it was straight out of Bavaria, Germany. We’ll be sure to return every time we’re in Blowing Rock!
The food is 1000/10!! Came here with my family while in the area and we loved it! Get the Ribeye steak so so good! And you have to try the Mac and cheese! Also the two deserts we tried bourbon flan and amaretto bread pudding were amazing! There were so many things on the menu that looked good. Place was clean, cozy and great service. Can’t wait to come back and eat here again! Delicious!
Bistro Roca has excellent service (seriously), strong mixed drinks, a solid variety of food options while also being limited enough to know that they make their food with care, and I'm obsessed with the Antler's bar decor of black and white dog photos! This is a must-visit for going to Blowing Rock!
Bistro Roca is a pretty restaurant with a great atmosphere. We dined in the enclosed patio area with the fireplace. Started the meal with the shishito peppers and the figs, both were very tasty. Unfortunately, by the time I ordered my entree they were out of the Korean ribs. Selected the brisket pizza instead. The toppings were very good but I didn't care for the pizza crust. It had a kind of grainy consistency. That said, everyone else enjoyed their selections.
Would like to give more stars. Sunday brunch was delicious and enjoyable. The atmosphere was great to enjoy the forest area. Food was good - french toast was so far my favorite! Lobster mac was also well cooked and well balanced. Great place for special occasions.
Stopped in while visiting from Delaware based on the advice of a local. We were VERY impressed. The place has a really cool vibe with lots of brick and distressed wood. Every course was simply excellent! We had the roasted figs and manchego as an appetizer, the pappardelle, and local NC trout as main courses. We had a couple of cocktails as well. Everything was excellent! The service was great as well. If we are in the area again we shall certainly return!
It was a busy Sunday in Blowing Rock and all restaurants were busy. We decided to walk over to Bistro Roca and get our name on the wait list. There was an hour wait however as luck would have it, there was an open table in the bar area so we decided to take it. This was our first time at the bistro and they were serving brunch. Our waiter/bartender, Hunter, was wonderful and too great care of us even with the high volume of customers. We enjoyed our drinks, the food was excellent and we look forward to our next visit. You will love their biscuits! If you get a flatbread ask for the chili oil. Even if you are not a fan of eggplants you have to try their Eggplant Frites - they simply melt in your mouth and the house made honey mustard adds just the right touch. My mouth is watering already.
Exceptional in every way!!! We've been enjoying Bistro Roca for the past 10 years. It is an absolute must on our Blowing Rock visits. The atmosphere has a rustic, mountain elegance feel. The cocktails are inventive and the wine selection is lovely. The menu offers so many delicious choices. From salads, to mussels, to wood fired pizzas, fish, steak and pasta...their menu has something that will please every palette. Every bite is delectable. We have always had stellar service, but this past visit we had the most memorable server ever, Jessica. She made our entire dinner experience from start to finish, amazing. We were a large party of 8, with 4 kids!!! She made them all feel special. Jessica was able to recommend entrees as she thoroughly knew the menu. I also highly recommend asking to sit on their semi enclosed outdoor patio. It has the most perfect ambience for a warm summer evening. Enjoying an evening at the Bistro Roca was hands down the best Blowing Rock, culinary experience of our trip.
We drove 2 hours to see the Blowing Rock. After researching where to eat on Google, decided to make reservations here. But after reading some of the reviews, we almost canceled. I'm so happy we did not. We arrived 15 min before our reservation time. Checked in and waited in the bar area, which was quite interesting and casual. Dog lovers own the place! Dog pics everywhere. Rustic atmosphere and kind staff. Husband ordered the black and blue ribeye cooked medium. Eggplant fries recommended by the waitor were surprisingly light. Creamy on the inside amd served with this honey mustard kind if dip. Just awesome! The Bleu cheese and butter wasn't chunky and mild. It added depth to the char broiled steak cooked perfectly! So much flavor! Opted for fries, which were different and great. Ordered the Habi Burger which was said to be on the menu 15-20 years; our waitors first pick! Charbroiled burger glazed with a habanero glaze- it was aaaahhhhhmmmazing! Not too spicy just the right about of flavor. The Mac and cheese side was an up charge of $2 but so worth it. Bun compressed nicely. Thick fresh tomato and crisp lettuce. They pride themselves in using local ingredients from local vendors; there's even a box on the menu showing these businesses. The waitor was amazing too. Never had to wait for a drink and checked back after we tasted our food. The bistro was packed but we didn't feel rushed at all. The patio I read negative reviews about was a room added on maybe with half the walls actual walls and windows that line 3 of the walls. It was really nice. The only drawback was parking but just before the restaurant there's a 'park' that you can explore before or after your visit. Totally worth the drive!
Look no further when visiting Blowing Rock. One of our favorite spots when we come to visit. Located by the beautiful park if you come early you can walk around the park or walk after the dinner and get yourself sweets from Wilkins. But let me tell you about the food here!!! My husband and I big foodies and have lived in NY and traveled the world and have had one of the best dishes. This place is on our list of best places to eat. Our waitress Julia was awesome and super sweet! We ended up chatting about food, nature and tattoos! We like to sample dishes and share them together. We had octopus which was so temper and not too chewy(perfect texture), Mac and cheese (delicious!!! and so creamy) soup of the night (kimchi+ mushrooms), Caesar salad, trout from the main dish, red curry from the special of the night. Everything was top notch. We enjoyed every dish. Can't recommend this place enough!!! Just make reservations and enjoy the beautiful night at Bistro Roca! Also did I tell you how cozy it is inside? Just go!
The best duck confit I've ever had!! Steak was slightly undercooked for my wife's liking but was so good she ate it anyway! We will be back!! Next visit was just as spectacular!! Thank you Bistro Roca!! 💙
This is the exquisite restaurant that I treated my (now) wife to on the night that I proposed to her near Blowing Rock, NC! We both ordered from their Specialties menu, the delicious Crab Cakes & the Black & Bleu. I recall this being one of the few occasions I ordered such significant portion of food and did not leave a crumb behind because it was so melt in your mouth good. The waitress had even allowed us to choose a complimentary dessert off their menu due to the special occasion! We are so excited to revisit one day hopefully soon.
Discovered through a simple Google search, they are off the beaten path and worth the exploration. Unique dishes and a staff in kitchen that cares about presentation and process. They support the Humane Society through photo shoots and have friendly staff too. We will return for sure.
I never write reviews, but this restaurant had me talking and thinking about it since we set down for dinner! This place is FANTASTIC!!!! INCREDIBLE from the moment we opened the doors and weer welcomed in to leaving, we felt at home. Bistro roca, has an incredible atmosphere. Jessica was our server tonight and she went above and beyond! She knew the menu forwards and backwared, and we had a lot of questions! she steered us in the right directions, and kept checking up on us every 5-10 minutes which was awesome. I had the habi burger and a side of mac and cheese, and it was SOO GOOD. This was probably the best burger i had ever had, and the mac and cheese is top tier! top 3 mac and cheese ive had, and i eat a lot of mac! also i had one of their signatgure cocktails, (___ river blues) (i think) and my god! this was one of the best mixed drinks i had ever had. we got here early at 4:$45p and by 6 they were pretty much fully packed! woujld recomned to get make a reservation another big shout out to Jessica, She took really good care of us, and she was having fun while doing it! we were joking and goofing around, and she matched our engeries perfectly! you could tell she really loves her job!
Fantastic meal. I had the Habi Mac & Cheese and a Caesar salad. Both were excellent, and the bread pudding topped was as well. Good ambience. The servers did a great job. They made me feel welcome, were polite, and always had a smile.
The staff were friendly and attentive. Perhaps the best burger I have ever had. Unusual menu choices - I'd never had braised figs and cheese nor the fried zucchini strips. We ate near the bar which proved to be quieter than the dining room even with a football game on. You need to call ahead for reservations even at lunchtime.
We are visiting Blowing Rock for the first time. We have already been to Bistro Roca twice, and we plan to go again before we leave! The ambience is superb...cozy, warm, and exactly what you want on a chilly Winter or Fall day. We had the Korean Beef Sandwich with a house salad for lunch, and it was delicious. We may even go back to get it again today! We ate dinner there the same day, and it was equally lovely. My husband is a brisket fanatic, and he said their brisket entree (with collards and grits) was the best one he has ever had. We live an hour and a half away, and we are already planning to drive up just for dinner. A must-try while in Blowing Rock!
Remy (from ratatouille) must be hiding in the kitchen cause this food has the most delicious flavor combinations. The pork is an absolute must it is so tender and delicious. They have really fun drinks too! Make sure to get a reservation or the wait will be long!
Our server John Was amazing. Very nice and great personality didnt treat us like we were just another table. . The food, the atmosphere, the vibe, the aesthetic, 1000000 out of 10. Anytime we are in town will be guaranteed to come eat here again. Thank you for making my first time here absolutely delish
Loved my vegetarian food here. Had the veggie mac n cheese , figs, eggplant frites and the pecan desert which was all so delicious!! Taylor our waitress was a delightful person. Appreciated the semi outdoor seating during the fall foliage!
best meal in a long time!!! Ignore the reviews that aren’t 5 stars as it’s clearly people looking for something to complain about and probably get a freebie. Seriously incredible food, atmosphere, and service. Been coming up to Blowing Rock for years and have never been, but will be returning every chance I get.
Exceptional. The quaint cozy atmosphere sets the relaxing tone adorned by two separate fireplaces boldly exposed to the patrons seated nearby. I ordered the brisket and my wife the crab cakes. The prices are inline with fine dining so, not cheap but worth the cost over all. The server we had was friendly knowledgeable and loaded with mountain charm. The food came out quickly and dare I say, photo ready. This was a worth while experience and a delicious end to our 30th anniversary evening. Highly recommend.
Went on a little ski getaway last weekend with my boyfriend and we both absolutely loved this restaurant. The atmosphere was so cozy and welcoming, and our waiter was incredibly kind and attentive. The cocktails were very good, and I highly recommend the calamari frites as an appetizer, it was delicious. We’ll definitely be back next year!
We came here for lunch and everything was absolutely delicious — simply amazing. We ordered the smoked duck ramen, which was very generous in portion and incredibly tasty. The staff was very friendly and welcoming, and the atmosphere felt truly magical. The restaurant has a charming dog-themed interior, with many photos of dogs and a few cats as well. If you’re looking for a place to enjoy a wonderful meal, this is definitely a great choice.
We had a large party…two with food allergies…one vegan and I cannot remember a more enjoyable dining experience! Our server Jessica was amazing. The food was some of the best I have had in Blowing Rock. We will be making a trip back in the very near future. A huge thank you for making a birthday celebration truly special.
We had the best experience last night at Bistro Roca. Our server, Mark, was the reason for it Mark shared excellent choices with us, for both entrees and wine. He was attentive to us as well as the other patrons in his section Mark, Kudos and Many Thanks! And our compliments to the Chef and Hostess Team, too! A Most Lovely Night!
I’m going to itemize this review since it’s only fair. Atmosphere: excellent vibe and we sat with a view in the backside of restaurant. 5/5 Food: Ribeye and Mac and cheese: 5/5 I’m an extremely tough steak critic and they nailed it and it was generous. Braised Brisket: 4/5 they are using the flat and it would be juicier if they used the point of the brisket. It’s still excellent. Pecan bar dessert: 3/5 really good but too much granola/oatmeal vibe going on int it and not enough Pecan. Pizza: it’s terrible. The dough is quite bad and the pizza is uninspired as you can get. It’s very grainy and they buy the dough from Stick Boy and and it’s not good. 1/5 (this is what keeps it from 5 stars) Service: Molly was excellent. Sadly the restaurant didn’t offer anything for the birthday we were there for. Many times a restaurant will do a small dessert or something. That was a tad disappointing in a restaurant of this caliber. Prices: this is where this place does very good. It’s not cheap but it has a tremendously good value for what to get. It’s not expensive it’s priced just right. Except on the cocktails. $15-16 for a cocktail needs to stop being normalized. So far this is the best restaurant in BR
One of our traditional dinner spots in Blowing Rock. Usually very good but on occasion they'll over char a pizza and they get really busy so getting bar drinks brought to your table can take awhile. But the entrees tend to be excellent and the servers are very nice. Love the mac and cheese, repeat Love the mac and cheese, and when cooked without over charring the pizzas are stellar. Have had pork porterhouse over polenta, one of my husband's favorites. He also adores the pecan bar dessert. The pork lettuce wraps are very good. And you can't go wrong with the BR burger with a side of the awesome mac and cheese. And also really enjoy the CAB Brisket.
We were a party of 4 have dinner. We had the Roca appetizer whish was great! Flavorful. We also had a smoked potato and bacon bisque soup from the specials, great flavor. After my wife had the mountain trout dish, we also had the Cab Ribeye steak. We had 2 different burgers, the habi and the venison. All food was very tasty and well presented. We did enjoy our first experience. For wine we had the Aimery sparkling wine.
Service is flawless. Atmosphere is superb. Food is good, not great. Drinks are excellent. Prices are reasonable. We've dined here a few times. Most recently we opted for appetizers roasted figs wrapped in prosciutto and drizzled with balsamic and we had the charred octopus w smoked olives and an aioli. For entrees, the flounder was melt in your mouth perfection w succotash and asparagus. The lamb loin w chimichuri was char-grilled to an ideal med rare but over seasoned w finishing salt.
Very charming little restaurant and the staff were great! The food was pretty good. We had shrimp and grits which had great flavor just wished they would have taken the tail off and had a hamburger with macaroni and cheese. The macaroni and cheese was delicious and the hamburger was pretty good. Would recommend and would definitely go back!
This quaint restaurant in Blowing Rock, NC, was lovely in a Hallmark Christmas type of town. It felt so welcoming. The decor was attractive. There were framed pictures of dogs all over the walls. I took some pictures of them and left them here in this review for you to check out. The seats were comfortable, and at no time did we feel rushed. The Pork Lettuce wraps and the Four Roca spread were delicious. The Pork Lettuce wraps were a bit spicy, but that's how I like my food. That's my 2¢ now you decided.
We made a reservation for dinner in view that every restaurant in town was getting full even during weekdays. We ordered an octopus as an appetizer 🤔 and I was really disappointed, I have never seen a octopus presentación so week and unbalanced. To started it was served on a bed of hash browns waffle house style with some kind of Digon mustard that it did make no sense and not to mention that the octopus I believe never left the ocean because there was exactly seven pieces of about 3/4" in diameter and 3mm think. My wife chose the wagyu steak which I know it's an expensive piece of meet, I really don't care about the price of the plate but the service and presentación of it, she asked for a medium well steak it came as well done not to mention that even though it's a expensive steak you really expect a piece of steak and not a gourmet piece, the presentation was with something that I have no idea what it was but a couple of deep fried balls, after I tasted them it seems to be like a deep fried risotto, again for that exclusive type of steak the presentation had no balance at all. I had the duck ramen that was well done and presented as it need it to be, the duck was delicious and the ramen was well done. I'm not impressed with the food at all.
I wouldn't say that anything here really knocked it out of the park for me. The pizza was the best thing I had. The bread dip platter was pretty good and a fun thing to share. The cobb salad was enormous and to me, the horseradish dressing wasn't very good. I wish I would have tried a different dressing. The calamari was large and seemed like maybe it sat under a heating lamp for a while or something. Was a bit limp. The sauce that came with it was very good though. The soup of the day was a white bean with vegetables but mine only had about 5 beans in it so I was a bit disappointed. The flavor wasn't that good to me either. The atmosphere is lovely and the service was pretty good. I'd probably give the place another try but get their special of the day (they were out of it when I was there) or a pizza. The pizza was excellent.
WE returned for another visit to Bistro Roca. Probably our 50th dinner at BR but completely lackluster staff at the Bar. We were blessed to experience wonderful staff who were amazing in their welcome and support over the years. Tonight we struggled to get their attention to even place an order. No welcome and no thanks for visiting. Fortunately our past patronage makes us love BR but the bar staff needs to get their act together.
Until last evening, Bistro Roca has remained a favorite. My husband and I have been enjoying the atmosphere, service and food for many years. The atmosphere and service were excellent, but I was very disappointed in the Mountain Trout entree. It was tasteless and poorly cooked. The fingerlings and brussel sprouts tasted as though they had been cooked long before. On a positive note, my husband enjoyed the brisket. Hope improvement can be made at a favorite place!
Surprisingly disappointing. The pizza and eggplant frites were too greasy. Initially the waitress was attentive, but then she disappeared. We told her the food was greasy, and said,”ok.” Not worth the price!
Well, that was rather disappointing. We ordered a Cesar salad without croutons, as my wife is gluten intolerant. Croutons were on the salad, not a big deal, an easy fix. My smoked chicken pizza was ok, but not well done as I asked. My wife received the wrong pizza, thankfully it was gluten free at least. Her pizza was ok, but upon trying a bite myself, it reminded me of Totinos pizza from college. Considering the prices, we expected more. Service was great though.
I saw a review that said this was the best food they’d had in years, well, maybe if you’ve been in a coma. If you’ve actually had great restaurant experiences, you’ll see this is not it. The drinks were inconsistent, sometimes too strong, sometimes weak with flavoring all over the place. The trout was bland with no seasoning, and the calamari came out soggy. Most of the food arrived lukewarm and seemed slightly undercooked, just a few more minutes away from being properly crisp or done. Overall, nothing had much flavor, and our server seemed annoyed on top of it all. Definitely a disappointing experience although it does have a good atmosphere.
