Unassuming strip mall location from the outside but really fantastic on the inside. Atmosphere, staff and food/drinks were all amazing. I’ve visited the area a few times but this was the first time I’ve discovered Reid’s. Will definitely be back. I found all portions to be consistent with what I expect from a small/large plates style restaurant. We choose to share everything when dining in restaurants like this so we tried several small plates and a couple entrees amongst the family. My wife and daughter absolutely loved the pasta special. Prices are consistent with what I would expect from a James Beard nominated restaurant with quality ingredients and a strong staff. Anyone complaining about price does not have reasonable expectations of what it takes to actually run a restaurant.
Sat on the oyster bar side. The drinks and food were so good. The chef even made my pasta of the day vegetarian. Our server Sarah was so kind and attentive. She even gave us a coupon to their sister breakfast spot Betty's biscuits where we ate at the next morning.
Came in here after a half day at Beech. Duck was phenomenal, spice cake too. This is a real nice establishment, price isn’t too bad, $30-$60 for entrees, most leaning towards the lower end. The chef was grilling some of the entrees outside, on a charcoal grill, while it was 30 degrees outside, if that tells you anything.
Reid’s Catering was phenomenal! We had a small, intimate wedding of 20 guests at Sky Retreat, and they made the entire evening feel like an elevated, elegant dinner party. From start to finish, their service was outstanding. Dinner was served family style, which created such a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The food was absolutely delicious and beautifully presented. Their team was attentive and professional. They came around throughout dinner to refill beverages and made sure every guest was well taken care of. They also provided bartending service and took care of cutting and serving our cake, which was such a huge help. We received so many compliments from our guests about the meal and the experience. We truly can’t recommend Reid’s Catering enough, they helped make our wedding day feel so special and seamless!
Reid’s Cafe is one of the finest restaurants on Sugar Mountain. My husband & I ate there nearly every night while we were in the area! Each night we would sit at the bar and enjoy conversation with Eddy the bartender- who by the way makes outstanding drinks! Every dish we had was amazing as you can see from the photo of my tuna on Tuesday night. Tuesdays we were told the menu was limited - if this is what limited looks like please serve me more! Reid’s is run by Tina who obviously loves what she does! She made us feel welcome & at home as did all of her employees!
Highly recommend sitting at the bar. Eddie is a great bartender and so knowledgeable about menu. Always interesting farm fresh local specials and nice wine list. Great atmosphere.
What a gem! Our family visits Reid’s every year, multiple times if we can help it. We are in the business, and this restaurant truly is top notch.
The steak was without doubt one of the best I have ever had. Of course me being me, I forgot to take photos. The steak was near perfect cooked with a sear producing a good crust and an amazing tenderness with much flavor. The pan seared tuna had great flavor but the sauce with it left a bitter taste within my mouth, overall it was good. Charcuterie board had a wide selection. Some of the cheeses were extremely stiff though. All else was good. The drinks and cocktails were all prepared very well. Wine selection was good. Prices vary by menu items greatly, I’d say range per person with apps and meal and drink is ~90-125 for dinner.
One of my absolute favorite restaurants in Banner Elk North Carolina! Food is 5 star, the bar is amazing (Make sure you ask for Devon), and atmosphere is cozy, but still sophisticated. I love how the menu constantly changes, ingredients are fresh, and cocktails are delicious. You must get reservations here if you’re in Banner Elk North Carolina..
A wonderful place for my dad’s birthday. The food was wonderful, plated well, and filled us up. The tuna was tender and tasted amazing with the sauce. The lobster bisque looked royal with the huge pieces of meat in it. It was a great place for our family to celebrate.
So glad to have found this restaurant!! Have been twice now, once in May for an anniversary dinner and now in December for a girls trip. The food is phenomenal! Everything we ate was delicious, especially the oysters. The drinks are fantastic too. This is a must visit when we are in the area now!
We enjoyed our dinner. It is fancier than we expected. It usually takes reservations but they allowed us to walk in. The food was special and tasty. Service was very good.
I was in town for a snow boarding trip and made the stop on the way down the mountain. This place was incredible. I order the wagyu beef sandwich. It was perfect! I also had pistachio baklava it was great as well! Anytime I’m back I will definitely be back!
I had an amazing meal here June 1st! The restaurant has a very friendly, inviting atmosphere and our service was impeccable. I had the Crispy Duck Breast and it was cooked perfectly-is it too much to say the duck was so tender it almost melted in my mouth????? No! Not too much! It was that good! And that was after a delicious charcuterie board as a starter. And of course a perfect bottle of wine. Just a great evening meal. And I will definitely come back!
My new fav location in Banner Elk! Scottie our waitress was amazing professional courteous and completed the perfect dining experience! One can expect excellence with Reid’s Caterers as well.
We went for new years eve 6 course dinner with wine pairings. Wonderful.
From the creators of the Beacon Butcher Bar comes another fantastic restaurant in the Boone area. This cozy spot is located between Boone and Banner Elk and offers a quaint food and wine selection with enough diversity for everyone to find something to their taste. The patio offers a few tables for outdoor seating.
The food was AMAZING. I got the fried chicken and grits, and the grits were the best I've ever had. The chicken was delicious as well. Service was fast and the server's very nice. I'll be back!
Now I'm no James Beard chef, but we went for a Sunday brunch and thisplace is a hidden jem in Banner Elk. Creative takes on classic southern fare. Chicken and waffles and sourdough French toast were great, cool vibe, staff was very friendly and attentive. Prices are in line with the quality and atmosphere.
If you like good food and service eat here. Banh Mi pork cheek? Wow. Absolutely insane. Thanks y’all! 4.9 stars. If there had been a toothpick at the front… 5 stars
The cafe is beautiful, the service was great and the food was amazing. I had a side salad with an delicious apple cider vinaigrette and Curry chicken salad sandwich on focaccia bread. It was on of the best sandwiches I've had in a long time. The Pisgah Pale Ale was sooo good! This is definitely a must visit!
Yummy...the food and the drinks were so good! Stopped in for lunch and had a few sandwiches and cocktails. Service was good and set up well for social distancing. The Ole Fatty Fashioned was a very unique experience. Great place to stop by when you're in the neighborhood.
The entire staff were on point!! The chefs really know what they're doing and I have zero complaints!! I highly advise to try the northern oysters!! We will be back for brunch probably Sunday!
Wonderful meal!! Best in the area with fresh ingredients and creative dishes. Loved it!
Such a delicious dessert!! Sweet potatoes sundae. It was sooo yummy and paired with a amber ale beer made it even tastier.
Absolutely wonderful! What a great find.
Best ever fresh Pasta! Trout was outstanding. They will see us again.
Found this wonderful gem by chance! Food is excellent! Service friendly and knowledgeable of the menu and daily specials. Cafe style ambience.
We have eaten many meals at Reid’s cafe over the past 7 years, each of them ranging from very good to outstanding. But last night, I had the grilled lamb tenderloin with lentil rice fritters and a creamy yogurt sauce. I’ve eaten at many 5 star restaurants in my years on earth, all over the USA and other countries. I can’t remember the last meal I’ve eaten that was PHENOMENAL. This was that. The meat was the most tender bite, grilled, seasoned to perfection, served with flavorful fritters that were portioned so you had one for each strip of meat, plenty of the 2 delicious sauces to go on top. Literally perfect in every way. I raved the entire way home. We are so lucky to have this little gem of a restaurant!
We used Reid's to cater our NC Mountain wedding and it was absolutely incredible! Their team was so easy to work with and incredibly accommodating with a couple of tricky dietary restrictions. Their attention to detail was amazing and we got so many compliments from our guests about the food and service. If your looking for a caterer for your event, hire Reid's!!
What a great place to have a special dining experience. I love the unpretentious atmosphere… upbeat vibe and classy. Attentive service. Great old fashion. But the food is the headliner here. Started with lobster ravioli served in a light broth which was delicious. Oysters were next and outstanding. My wife had the lasagna special which had a unique crispy sear to it. Fantastic. And my scallops and risotto might have been one of the best I’ve had. Highly recco 🔥
Reids is a fine jewel among rough gemstones. The food is consistently good, and quite tasty. The portions are sufficient and the choices are phenomenal.. I had a curried chicken salad which was awesome! The staff is very pleasant and professional making the dining experience one to remember. The decor is comfortable but interesting. It's an upscale place that makes you feel like you're upscale.
We used Reid's to cater our wedding and it was absolutely incredible! We cannot speak highly enough about the entire Reid's team. Our wedding was on private family land, and everyone was extremely flexible and accommodating. The communication throughout the entire process was very thorough and everything from the first inquiry to the tasting to the wedding day was perfect! We had multiple comments from guests saying it was the best wedding food they had ever had (we agree!) The service was impeccable, and we could not have dreamt up a better team to handle our day. Thank you Reid's!!
We had a great wine with an exceptional meal. You will have an excellent meal served by a wait person who is happy you are there. Pork tenderloin was great, according to my husband. The pasta of the day was great & the upside down pineapple cake with buttermilk ice cream was an awesome way to top off an outstanding experience,
Reid's catered our wedding a few weeks ago in late August and I have nothing but amazing things to say about them! You absolutely get what you pay for here - the food, drinks, service, cleanup, you name it was all amazing. My husband and I (along with all of our guests) were treated like gold the whole evening, someone was always around checking on if we needed another drink or more food or anything, and everything was delicious. They even left us an adorable message in our guest book - such a sweet touch. 10/10 recommend this company if you're getting married or hosting an event in the high country!
Everything here was great.I really regret not coming here before. They say they're a cafe, but you get in there and it's more of a high end restaurant. Service was outstanding. Food tasted great very well prepared. We were stunned at how good the oysters were.. Better than some places we've been to in Charleston. Go see Eddie, one of our new favorite bartenders. We will definitely be back.
My girlfriend and I came for a Valentine's Day dinner and everything was absolutely amazing. The service was wonderful, food and drinks were delicious (really appreciated my mocktail), and the atmosphere splendid. Will definitely be making Reid's our date night/special occasion spot and will find any reason to go back. 10/10 recommend.
Our group of 11 had an amazing valentines day dinner here! Sarah was a great server, especially for such a large party! The atmospehere was great, food and drinks were delicious. Steak frites were a tad pricey but the sauce was amazing. Thanks Sarah!!
WOW! Where has this place been all my life? Reid's Cafe is fantastic. I really wasn't expecting much, so I was floored by the quality of the food, atmosphere, service and extensive wine list at this restaurant. Seriously, this is Asheville level quality right here in Tynecastle.
A surprisingly excellent dinner! The food is delicious and this staff is warm and welcoming. My husband and I had a great time. Highly recommend.
Cute restaurant. Good service and good cocktails. The food was well prepared and made good use of seasonal produce. Desserts were good as well, especially the apple cobbler with buttermilk ice cream.
I felt the menu was small with very little choices. I also thought it was overpriced for the type of restaraunt it was. For example, I don’t think they should charge $70 for a bone in steak since this is not a steakhouse or $40 for a fish plate. Before eating, be sure to look at the menu before entering. On a good note. The staff was nice and the restaraunt was clean and quaint.
When dinner costs $185 for 2 of us (with tip), we expect a few things: bread for the table; an array of options to order; fantastic service. We received none of those. There are 3 options for dinner each night. On Monday, there was a steak (hangar, $50); a fish (amberjack, $45), and pasta in a white sauce ($40). There were 3 appetizer choices...one had mascarpone, no thank you, and one was a pate, no thank you, so we ordered the Benne rolls and received 3 of them for $8. There were no salads available. There were 3 'vegetable' sides, 2 had mascarpone. Again, no thank you. The hangar steak was quite excellent but the fish was just okay and the pasta was just okay, No excuse for everything not being top notch. We were 2 couples, and at the start, we requested 2 checks, and she said she could split the bill. I said No, we do not want it split, we each want our own bill, as I knew the other couple would enjoy a bottle of wine between them. At the end of the meal she presented us with 1 check. When I reminded her that we wanted 2 checks, she asked who had the wine (maybe the couple who had the wine glasses?), etc. We will not be returning. Ever.
My wife and I went for supper on 11/14/25. The service was great, she was very friendly and attentive. We ordered the specials. My wife got the Beef Bourguignon and I the Seafood Gumbo. The beef bourguignon was bland and the seafood in the gumbo (3 pealed shrimp & 3 crab legs) didn't taste fresh, but the 3 pieces of sausage in the gumbo were good. We shared a spicy caesar salad, a bottle of mineral water and a ginger beer. Our bill was $92.36. Not good value for the quality of food, IMHO.
Honest review coming: Waitstaff was top notch and the feeling was very nice. We were cared for. So thank you Also the food tasted good generally but did not stand out. The location is a strip mall. I have never paid more for food in my life…. My wife and I had a 240 bill after a drink each one entree and an app. We literally left there and had to stop and get something t on the way home so we weren’t hungry. The portions are tiny. The shrimp and grits and salads are deconstructed down to silliness that looks more like someone in the kitchen was tired…. If we paid half it would’ve felt better and not so ripped off…. Not sure if their goal is make money or make people full…. There’s lots of good places near by that are better choices and you don’t leave hungry lol
Worst food. Gave us over cooked burnt chicken. Customer service is non existence. Would not recommend to anyone.
I’ve been three times to Reid’s and brought visiting family on Saturday and was disappointed. They were understaffed so our server was running a lot. She must have forgotten to put our order in because it took an hour for our food and people seated after us at the bar and a nearby table both left before we got our food. 3 of us ordered the fried chicken sandwich which was extremely salty and none of us finished it. I love the ambience of this restaurant and it was great in the past but the other times we went it was also wasn’t busy.
Very poor atmosphere more likel a diner, overpriced, tourist trap. In an effort to appear elegant they poured you water out of a nice green wine bottle that was obviously tap water.
I recommend that Reid’s removes “family friendly” and “kids menu” from their listing. I’ve eaten at Reid’s many times and it’s one of my parents favorites when they are in town visiting us. Tonight we had a reservation for 7 which included my almost 2 year old daughter. Since we’ve visited with her before and I told the hostess in advance to be expecting her, I didn’t imagine this would be an issue. Our reservation was at 5:30. Our daughter was being very well behaved but got antsy at the table (as toddlers do) and so I walked with her around the restaurant - from the front to side door. Some older woman who obviously doesn’t have much experience with children decided this was far too much for her - a child! Walking past her! During dinner! She complained to the manager and the manager came and told me I was not allowed to walk around with my daughter any longer. This isn’t the way a manager “makes everyone happy” she was not being loud and causing no other disturbance besides walking past a table. I believe you nicely tell that woman that we have every right to be purchasing an expensive meal as she does. And if that’s not the case and you do not want children at your establishment, make that clear. It’s just rude and makes a nice family meal (that is very expensive FYI) into a terrible one. Do better. I’ll also mention that I asked if I could add protein to a kids portion of pasta and the waiter gave me two options - a $65 steak or $25 chicken. I hope any parent here is laughing along with me.
As the waiter went thru the specials I had chosen one and indicated my wife is a vegetarian so no need to go into other meat dishes but he did anyway and she selected a pasta with veggies dish from your menu. He brought her a pasta dish with two pieces of meat on top! They redid the vege dish and she liked it after waiting 10-15 minutes for it. It was my birthday and I was upset. My grouper filet was rather small, more so than another diners' I could see and the accompaniment was not at all memorable.
