At fish! Borough Market, the freshness of the ingredients is matched by the excellence of the staff. The fish is beautifully prepared using top-quality, seasonal produce, and the team is consistently warm, attentive, and professional. Their genuine care and knowledge enhance the dining experience. A true gem for anyone who values exceptional service and fresh, flavorful food.
I know my fish and chips and this is the best I have come across so far. Maybe there is something better, but I haven't found it yet. We ordered the Cod and Haddock, both had a light crispy batter and the fish meat was succulent and tasted fresh, so much so I didn't use any condiments like salt, pepper or ketchup. The service was very good and the staff were friendly and attentive, I would come here again with no qualms. Highly recommended.
I went yesterday to dinner alone and from the very first moment the girl at reception, a blonde with very long hair, was super kind and friendly, the waiters too, very friendly and recommending good food (everything I had for dinner was delicious, starters, main course and desserts), making the evening enjoyable. I came back the today and they remembered me and gave me a super cute smile, which is appreciated when you go to dinner on a Thursday night in London alone and they were very nice to me. I will definitely come back here when I am next in London.
If you want to dive right into English culinary culture, then order a fish and chips here. Even if the price may be a little be more expensive than in other places, the quality of the fish, the perfect crunch of the frying, the crispy and melting chips and the delicious mashed peas make you forget and understand this small higher price. Moreover, the setting is magnificent with a very beautiful exterior view, a very pretty restaurant and a attentive and kind staff.
This is a truly high-class place to try fish and chips — just as the ratings suggest — but there’s so much more to it. The service was exceptional, and the food felt like a work of art, making our lunch unforgettable. Thank you, Jay and Smelena, for taking such great care of us — the level of service honestly exceeded what we’ve experienced in some five-star hotels. They offer a wide variety of fish, sides, and snacks, all prepared perfectly. Highly recommended!
Good little hidden gem, located right on the edge of the market. This was a great venue and very warm inside given the cold day outside. We went in and was seated pretty much straight away, food was delicious and served in good time. The menu is obviously as it say on the tin and serves fish, so is a limited menu for kids. But restaurant is good for all ages
Exceptional food and service. We were served by Shona who was alert and incredibly diligent in filling glasses when needed enquiring as to our needs and completely unassuming. starters a dozen oysters and whitebait with two bottles of Stellenbosch white wine, two double calvados dessert drinks and two coffee liquors. The halibut, baked squid and baked wild fish and sides were of the highest quality, cooked well and tasted fantastic. Price was good if you factor in the oysters and drinks. Highly recommended
A solid classic if you want fish and chips while you’re in Borough Market. We ordered the hake, and the fish was really juicy and nicely cooked. The only downside was that the portion of chips wasn’t very generous and they weren’t seasoned with salt or vinegar. The homemade tartar sauce, though, was delicious.
This restaurant has become one of my absolute favourites for seafood! The staff are incredibly welcoming and make you feel right at home from the moment you arrive. The food consistently hits the mark—always fresh, flavorful, and perfectly prepared. I wholeheartedly recommend this place to everyone looking for a great dining experience.
First time I ever tried fish and chips, and it’s actually not bad. The fish was moist and the batter was crunchy with a light beer flavor. Chips were gorgeous and fluffy. The portion was huge, way bigger than I imagined so it’s best to share for 2. The place got crowded quickly and they have limited outdoor seats, so arriving early helps.
Fish Kitchen at Borough Market is an absolute treat and a must-visit if you’re craving classic comfort food done right. The fish and chips are outstanding : Perfectly golden, light, and crispy batter wrapped around fresh, flaky fish, with chunky chips that are fluffy on the inside and satisfyingly crisp on the outside 🎣 😋
My partner and I, had lunch at Fish today and it was overall a great experience, food was delicious (we had mussels and seared tuna, both as a main, with side of mash potatoes and broccoli) Tony was our server and he was impeccable, very friendly but professional and his timing was great, food also came very quickly. We will definitely come back.
Had lunch here but went without a reservation and was still seated quickly. Although it’s become a bit of a tourist spot, the staff were attentive and welcoming. The soft shell crab was crisp and flavourful, and the halibut was fresh and well cooked. A relaxed, easygoing place for nice seafood
We enjoyed everything at this restaurant. Food was very good, we had quite a few options from the menu: sardines, marinated anchovies, mackerel with pesto and salad, seabass and the absolute winner- fish & chips (cod option) which was sublime. Batter well seasoned, very light, fish was very fresh and flavoursome, chips were real and not frozen, tartar sauce - excellent. Our waitress Georgiana was very nice and helpful, providing excellent recommendations for the food and the wine, really top-notch service from her and the rest of the staff. It was a special night for us and we are glad we spent it here. Gave 3 stars for the atmosphere, but not the restaurant ‘s fault. It was a rainy, cold Monday evening and by 9 pm the restaurant was empty. We will visit again, hopefully in a warmer season!
I was walking around Borough Market but found no where to sit and the food looked great in the market. So I decided to come here and have a dozen oysters and some champagne and it was honestly a lovely lunch. Easy and fast seating and was such a relief to get out of the crowds of the market. the good was exceptional. The sea Bream I changed with spinach and not white cabbage. The oysters were a treat. Highly recommended and not sure why this restaurants rating is so low. Staff were very polite and attentive.
Fish! I had the specials rather than the fish and chips it is famous for. I saw most people get that and it looked amazing I'll have to try next time, but my asparagus were lovely then this flaked hot salmon salad with dried salmon with the texture off bacon was off the charts never had anything like that before so I'm glad I choose the specials definitely going back on next trip to London
We enjoyed everything from the service, through the food and to the vibe. My grilled cornish skate with fried buttered capers was amazing and I was able to substitute the mashed potatoes for this wonderful tomato salad. My son said his steak was the best, even though it was a seafood restaurant. And my husband liked his salad and the sticky toffee pudding. Definitely would come again.
The food was scrumptious, and our host Smilena made sure we ate well. We saw how hardworking she is—always looking for ways to help the guests. Diana at the entrance was very pleasant to speak with. The goat cheese and oysters are a must-try, and they offer a variety of grilled fish. Thank you for the excellent service and delicious food!
Arrived early for my booking. Got shown to our table by a very friendly member of staff. Ordered wine which was very nice and arrived promptly. My partner ordered the Haddock and chips with mushy peas and I ordered the Grilled Swordfish which came with seasonal veg and I chose the herb and garlic butter sauce and a side of new potatoes. My partner loved her meal and mine was fantastic too. My partner ordered a liqueur coffee with Baileys. I ordered the Neals Yard cheese, biscuits, grapes and quince jelly. Both went down a treat. Will definitely be visiting again. All the staff were attentive and provided exceptional service.
September 2024: Stopped by for lunch and tried the sea bass fish and chips from the takeaway stand. Fish tasted fresh and delicious. Put a little malted vinegar and it was perfect. Chips were big and had a lot of texture. Would definitely come back again for more delicious fish and chips!
I stopped by several spots in Borough Market in London recently and the food that stood out the most was the Fish & Chips with Cod from Fish! Kitchen. The cod was delicate and tender, breading thin and not oily, and overall a good balance. The fries were quite good as well. I think it's one of the best stalls in the market and I'd give it 8.8/10.
There are so many fish n chip restaurants in London, we were so lucky having chosen this one to try out the famous must try fish n chip. One word: perfect. Crispy, super light dough, fresh fish ( we chose cod fish), fresh potato chips and sauce. Calamari was great either. The coating was thing the squid thin sliced, pairing with arugula, add some lemon juice. The seafood salad was a big portion of seafood from scallops, shrimps to fish and clams, more seafood than salad :) Highly recommend this place. Oh we ate at off peak, that’s why it was no waiting line at the restaurant. The take-away shop next to the restaurant is always crowded.
I had the best fish & chips here! I have never tried it, to be honest, although I come a lot to London, but today, when I saw how they were excited for the dish, especiallythe Haddock, I decided to get one of these yummy fish. We had different sharing sizes of starters such as fried calamari, thai fish cake, and main discharge. It was really tasty and left me with a good impression of a traditional popular dish
First visit to Fish for our party if 6. Fabuous restaurant. Great location and the food was first class. Not to forget to mention that our waiter from Brentwood was excellent and took some lovelt photos of us :-)
Huge line but it went pretty quickly! The fish and chips were great! Enjoyed them!
Unmissable if you enjoy seafood and are in London. We attended on a Thursday evening in February without a reservation and were given one of the “bar seats” overlooking the kitchen. You can see first hand the care and focus that is going into food preparation. I recommend the haddock with bubble and squeak and poached egg. Friendly service and quality fresh food, what’s not to like?
Great place in the market, staff are super helpful and friendly. I ordered the fish finger sandwich and it didn’t disappoint. The portions are generous and the food was great. Highly recommended!!
Great food, super atmosphere...worth sitting and enjoying time on the market
What an enchanting evening at Fish! My father and I came for a meal and we absolutely loved it. We were looked after by the amazing Florin, he was super attentive and friendly, genuinely some of the best service I’ve ever experienced. Throughout our meal my father and I went “thinks definitely one to come back to”. We started with the Thai Fish Cakes and the Prawn Cocktail. Both were full of flavor and delicious. I went for the classic Cod and chips and my father, the Lobster. I the batter on the cod ACTUALLY had flavor unlike a lot of the cheap ones you get and it was well balanced , not too thick nor thin and I just loved the peas. My father’s lobster was so juicy and tender, he loved it. For desert I went for the crème brûlée, and my father had 3 scoops of ice cream/sorbet. No regrets all around 10/10 meal. The Barman makes a fine negroni but there is an extensive wine list available as well.
Visiting Borough Market was a vibrant and memorable experience. I explored a wide variety of food stalls, fresh produce, and unique local products while enjoying the lively atmosphere. The market’s mix of colours, smells, and sounds made it an exciting place to walk around and take photos. I enjoyed discovering different cuisines, talking to friendly vendors, and learning about their products. The historic surroundings and busy crowds added to the charm of the visit. Overall, exploring Borough Market gave me a great opportunity to see new things, taste delicious food, and appreciate one of London’s most iconic market destinations.
This restraunt was an amazing way to celebrate a Friday night. Our server Emanuel was quick no messing around we ordered drinks within 5 minutes of arriving and they came as quick as a flash. Emanuel was really nice and good for a chat and he never missed a beat. The ambience was really nice and not too loud. The food was spot on came really quick. Would recommend any day, great for a celebration or just a drink.
The fish (opt cod) was juice perfectly crusted, the octopus potato salad amazing…. Giovanni and the rest of the “crew” very welcoming and friendly…. Definitely 💯 % We will be back soon…..
This was an excellent experience if you like good products. Delicious grilled skate wing. Very fresh, hand-made smashed potateous really, really excellent with butter and persil. Tartare sauce delicious. French fries as they should be. Italian wine (we took the better one at 34£ for 500ml). Kind service, attentive for the kids. Merci!
Recently went to this restaurant With my wife, daughter and son The Service was excellent. I couldn’t fault it. My wife and daughter had crab for starter and lobster as a main course me and my son both had steak. Each meal was beautifully cooked And was delicious You start a main course and a desert and several drinks. The bill came to just under £400 which you don’t mind paying when you get made to feel special and the food is exceptional well done.
My first time to try the restaurant and I was truly impressed by the excellent service. Coming from hospitality background, I notice certain things on service and I cannot find fault with the team here. They are polite, efficient, friendly, warm from the time you step in and meet the receptionist, throughout the meal and even after. Of course, food was also very good but the service is noticeably better than most places in London.
Had a wonderful dine-in experience at Fish! in Borough Market! The food was absolutely delicious, fresh, flavourful and served hot. The ambience was great too, lively yet comfortable, perfect for enjoying a good family meal. A special mention to Cosmin, our server, who made the experience even better. His hospitality was excellent, attentive, friendly, and always with a smile. He made sure we felt welcome and well taken care of throughout our meal. Highly recommended! 🐟✨
They have both a restaurant and a takeaway stand. Naturally, prices vary depending on whether you choose to dine in at the restaurant or opt for takeaway. The takeaway stand is prominently located in the center of Borough Market and is easy to find. We opted for the cod and chips, which was simply a piece of battered cod served with chips. I appreciated the high turnover, which ensured the fish was fresh, the batter remained crisp, and the overall meal was enjoyable. It's a straightforward, no-frills offering.
This is a nice restaurant located just behind the grab-and-go fish & chips stall in Borough Market. We tried the Fish & Chips, Fish Pie, and Fish Cake, and finished with an Earl Grey tea. Everything was delicious, and the sauces served with the fish & chips were especially good. The waiter was very attentive, and the service was excellent. They accept both cash and card payments. A cozy place where you can enjoy a nice time with friends. Highly recommended.
If you’re in the mood for fish then this is the place to be! Enjoyable food. Great for a casual dinner out. Atmosphere: Buzzing atmosphere. A little bit of a tourist vibe with too many tables squashed in but that is to be expected when visiting borough market Food: Sourdough and butter: Nice for the table Fish soup starter: This was nice but not stand out. Probably wouldn’t order again but was pleasant. Thai fish cake: Friend really enjoyed these Cod and chips: Very nice. Good mushy peas. Salmon: nicely cooked Soft crab bun: Lots of flavour and juicy. Sticky toffee pudding: Sauce was way too runny on this. The sponge was very soft which I liked. However did just seem like it had been thrown in a microwave. Came incredibly quickly. I wouldn’t order next time as didn’t feel fresh.
While exploring the borough market, saw a line for London’s famous fish & chips. Well well well, let me try this now It was a ‘to-go’ line (not the actual restaurant) and the line was moving fast. Seems they were only taking orders of fish & chips. I ordered one (Plaice fish) and unfortunately, I got burned fish. And that was too full of oil – 2/5 Doesn’t matter if they won some ‘Fish-Chip Award’ if you don’t maintain consistency. And to-go customers- they might come back so treat them nicely, please. if I am asking where are folks/sauces are – point them out nicely. Just handing out the food doesn’t mean your job is finished.
Was looking forward to it but it was slightly disappointing. Great crunch, chips and fish tasted really fresh (got the Cod for 15 pounds-ish?), however too much raw flour below the batter for my liking, but I do like that the seasoning is customisable and you could add the amt of salt or vinegar to your liking. Not a bad experience but not mind blowing
The fish was really fresh and delicious, but the chips were way too chunky. The staff’s service was worse than a bus driver’s – I don’t think it’s worth the price at all.
I waited in line prior to the stall opening and found they were precooking a few dozen fish for orders, likely to beat the lunch rush. When it finally opened, i was greeted in a rushed manner, stating that out of the 7options on the menu, only haddock and seabream were available today. A huge let down as i was really looking forward to Cod. After placing my order, i was nudged to the side and they briefly placed chips and a piece of fish into my box, and that was it. I cannot believe they did not advertise their tartar sauce while i was ordering if in fact they do not plan to include it in their meal. If i had known it was not included, i would have happily paid extra for it. Too bad i wasn't able to buy one from the worker as he said i had to order it ahead of time, meaning line back up... I noticed most people were just ordering the fish and chips without tartar as well, and seemingly unaware it did not come with. The chips were dry and the fish was room temp. I cannot imagine they believe people will enjoy their fish and chips meal as is?! Very disappointing as google photos of their dine-in option shows the meal with a lemon wedge, tartar and mushy peas all included in the meal. Baffled that their exterior stall still advertise themselves as a "proud winner of a national fish and chip award".
If you’re ever wondering what culinary betrayal feels like, stroll into Fish! at Borough Market and prepare to have your soul deep-fried in disappointment. Let’s begin with the “fish”. I use that term loosely. It was undercooked, sad, and floppy like it had just lost a custody battle. The batter was a soggy, greasy crime scene, and the inside? More raw than a Love Island contestant’s emotional baggage. I took two bites, stared into the void, and honestly questioned the entire British Empire. Then came the “chips.” These weren’t fries. They were a disgrace. Limp, lifeless potato sticks that even the French would be embarrassed to call frites. They tasted like someone whispered “salt” from a different room and then dropped them in a puddle. The beer? Oh god. It was warmer than my therapist’s office. I cracked it open expecting a refreshing pint, and what I got was a lukewarm, flat insult. I actually spit it out like I was in a Monty Python sketch gone wrong and chucked the whole thing in the bin, which coincidentally is also where the food ended up. Along with my hopes, dreams, and £30. This place should be investigated by the UN. I left hungry, bitter, and emotionally wounded. Honestly, the only fish I trust in London now is the one singing in The Little Mermaid. Avoid this place like British sunburn. You’ve been warned.
The food was not tastefully made. The badder (thick layer around the fish) of the fish (and chips) was way too thick and interrupted the flavour and crunchy taste of the dish. The staff didn't even come to ask if we were enjoying the food after being served. I saw other people as well removing the big and thick badder layer of the fish to enjoy the taste of the fish in the first place. There was a fat-free paper on the plate under the fish. The purpose of this was not clear to me. The paper gets soggy, and it can easily be eaten cause people cut into it. The net over the lemon is unnecessary and very wasteful. Appetizer: The bread (with butter) could have been warmed up. Only the sides: olives, spinach, and green/mix salad had a nice taste. Did not stay for dessert. Price wise , food wise and service wise this place I would not recommend.
