Kumi Ko! Wow this was hands down the best sushi we’ve ever had. Everything was so generously portioned and incredibly fresh. The scallop ceviche was phenomenal and so tender and the Kumi Ko salad kind of blew our minds. We were expecting a standard sushi restaurant green salad but were instead greeted with a huge bowl that included very fresh mixed greens, sliced apples, avocado, daikon, beets, sliced tomatoes and a perfectly salted, umami pickled carrot. The Nigiri combo was on point with very nice, higher end choices of fish and the tuna roll was beautiful and so red in color! 10/10 recommend! Ambience was great and staff were super friendly even though we came in close to the closing time. Thank you! We look forward to coming back!
Great place! They remember you and even remember what your favorite dinner.
Great place for family dinner. The kids were happy coloring with provided crayons and the waitress was happy to help them with chopstick cheaters (plastic apparatus placed at the end to turn them into tongs). They loved the Ramune marble drinks and there was a fair selection of flavors. There were plenty of non-sushi options too. The udon is great but I love the special cut rolls. The miso soup is tasty and the edamame is great too. The ambiance is better after they painted the ceiling and the bathroom is always clean!
So good. I am a huge fan of stuffed mushrooms but never thought that I would find the best in a Japanese restaurant!
Amazing food, great prices for generous bowls and other plates. Excellent sushi and chill vibes. Will return!!!
Best sushi in SLO county. Such fresh fish, great prices and generous portions. Great service as well especially considering this place is usually busy. Highly recommend this place, we haven't had a bad roll yet!
Food was fresh and delicious. Beautifully presented. They have a large menu. Lots to choose from. Dessert was very good. I had the mango mochi ice cream. It was cut into pieces and had chocolate drizzle, whipped cream, and maraschino cherries. I highly recommend this place.
This is an excellent restaurant--i didn't think I liked Japanese food, but the Assorted Tempura had a lovely presentation and was delicious! Nice quantity of vegetables and shrimp
We went there for a late lunch and got the lunch special 'bento box'. That is it in the picture, good deal, nice assortment of goodies. 3 kinds of Japanese pickled vegetables, miso, rice, assorted tempura, cutlet, cut roll. We almost could have gotten one and split it. They also have a really good deal on happy hour. Nice neighborhood Japanese restaurant. Look farther down and you will see another picture I took of spicy Seafood Ramen and Spanish mackerel sashimi, they were terrific. Edit: Went back again for that Spanish mackerel combo and more, wow. That mackerel was one of the best fish dishes we had ever eaten. The entire fish is prepared as sushi/sashimi, and the bones and head are fried up. We at every bit. My compliments to the chefs. This is now my favorite restaurant in town.
Kumi ko Japanese Restaurant has good quality of sushi’s and delicious begin-fried rice. I am Japanese-American, lives there and here both countries. It is real. The atmosphere of the restaurant, the ornaments in the restaurant are real from Japan, sushi chefs wear real Japanese chef costume and hat, and their work are visible from 120 degree angle. Look at the picture I attached, I ordered “Chirashi bowl” that has several different row fishes on the top of sushi rice. It was delicious. My wife liked California roll and she ordered vegi-fried rice. It was also delicious and the volume is also big that you can share with others while you are enjoying your sushi. I am full and happy to went there. Thanks, Kumi Ko!
My friends all go for the sushi, but I enjoy their other dishes like the bulgolgi. I appreciate that their non-sushi offerings are as strong as their sushi offerings, which makes it easier to go with groups with mixed preferences.
Amazing food, tried the crunchy roll, some salmon roll and an Entree of ginger beef. The Ginger Beef entree is missing something to give it a intense flavor, however amazing! The sushi was incredible, and better than most places ive been to here in SLO. The Tempura cheesecake is great, the Tempura might confuse you, but its amazing and just adds texture. Will come again sometime
Kumi‑Ko is an absolute masterpiece of a Japanese restaurant, a true 5 star experience that I recommend at 110%. The portions are generous, the quality of every dish is exceptional, and the pricing is refreshingly fair for the level of craftsmanship they deliver. The staff is consistently polite, attentive, and genuinely courteous, which elevates the entire dining experience. This is the kind of place that reminds you how good food and great hospitality can make an ordinary day feel special. If you’re anywhere in the area, do yourself a favor and make Kumi‑Ko your next stop. It’s phenomenal.
I have been to kumi ko many times but this visit surely took the cake. I personally ordered a super star roll and the baby lobster which are my two favorites. I highly recommend the baby lobster roll to anyone who likes teriyaki/umami flavors its essentially a california roll but with the rolls face up and on top is a buch of baked crab meat and lobster meat with little shrimps inside, and on top has this sweet teriyaki-ish umami sauce thats highly addictive and the dish cleverly puts this sweet ponzu like sauce at the bottom that the rolls soak in and make everything taste amazing. I always add a plain roll to my order to dip into soy sauce and today I got the super star roll which doesnt have anything that makes it stand out much but it is still a tasty roll. sometimes I may get the rainbow roll or the super summer roll (On the special menu its very good). Fish tasted super fresh and super delicous today, and a nice little thing about the place is they give you these little coffe candies with your bill that are very tasty. Overall 5/5 experience especially today because of how fresh everything tasted. Best sushi place here in SLO for sure!
Kumi ko is a Japanese restaurant in San Luis Obispo across from the Damon Garcia sports field. I ordered the spicy ramen bowl and the broth had a slow-building heat with good flavor. We came for my brother’s birthday and the staff actually made it feel like a celebration. They brought a complimentary dessert with a sparkler candle and the whole place joined in to sing. The service moved quickly without feeling rushed, and everyone was attentive without hovering. The food felt thoughtfully made and the atmosphere worked just as well for a special occasion as it would for a simple dinner. It stands out as some of the best Japanese food and sushi in SLO.
Awesome food, friendly and attentive service, clean environment. Easy parking. Fresh sushi. They have the best Shirachi bowl in 805.
Had lunch at Kumi Ko in SLO and it was a great experience! We ordered several rolls, an entree, salad, and some sashimi—and everything was fresh and flavorful. The rolls were well-made and didn’t skimp on the fish, and the sashimi was clean and nicely cut. The lunch portions were generous, especially for the price. Service was friendly and quick, and the vibe was casual and relaxed—perfect for a midday meal. Definitely a solid lunch spot if you’re in the mood for Japanese food!
Grabbed some lunch on a Saturday afternoon, no wait time and not too busy so it was nice. Waiter and food was very quick! Ordered some edamame, shogun roll, baby lobster roll and udon. Super delicious and would be back again if in town. I recommend for others looking to fill a craving.
The bento box lunch special was a great deal, and the spicy pork was hot but the spice didn't overpower the other flavors! I liked the salad and the crunchy roll as well. Again, excellent balance of food in the bento box lunch special!
Came here with my hubby for lunch and we were not disappointed. We had salmon sushi, a cherry blossom roll, baked mussels, & a bento box lunch that included sesame chicken, shrimp & veggie tempura, a spicy tuna cut roll to which I added avo & masago, steamed rice, green salad, & miso soup. Everything was delicious! The salmon sushi was so fresh. Service was great, very friendly & fast. Highly recommend.
Delicious! The fish is fresh and tasty
This is the BEST Spicy Veggie Ramen Soup I have ever had!! Sushi was delicious as well. Parking is easy, and service is nice. Conveniently located in Von's supermarket center. There's outdoor seating and inside is set up for Covid rules. Great spot!!
Place was quiet when I showed up on Sunday, but it did start to pick up as I left. Good timing. Staff was helpful, especially when I ordered incorrectly. Spicy Ramen and 6 sushi, a couple of draft beers. Good price. And great food. Would go again. Now excuse me, I have to pass out.... Oh and no they don't fold your chopstick wrapper into a rest, that's all me, baby.
The food her is amazing!! The service is exceptional thank you Savanah ! A must try!
The food was great, the healthiest beef ramen noodle it lacked some flavor, but I still enjoyed it.
So glad this place exists in SLO! The food is good, and the servers are kind. Since I found out about it I keep bringing my friends and family to try it for themselves.

Ate here for the 1st time with 2 of my daughter's. They had California hand rolls & I ordered Rainbow roll & Caterpillar roll. Everything was fresh, prompt & delicious. The server was very courtesy & will definitely eat here again.

One of our go to Sushi and Japanese food restaurants in SLO for many years. Top quality fish, including for all options for nigiri and sashimi. Everything we have tried is excellent. Our top 5 favorite/goto sushi rolls are: Cherry Blossom Roll Hawaiian Roll Dragon Roll Grand Tasty Roll Kumiko Roll We have tried many of their offerings but due to a mild shrimp allergy in the family tend to avoid dishes/sushi rolls with shrimp or at least shrimp that is easy to pick out if the roll for the one family member. Portions are of good size, and always fresh and excellent. All the standard sides for a sushi place are very good, with no disappointments ever for us. The only dish I heard less than positive feedback on from people I know is the baked green muscles, so if this a fav for you maybe don’t order at any of smaller sushi restaurant in SLO. The Kumiko Boat is a excellent choice, if are less of a raw sushi fan, order a extra California, Crunch or spicy tuna roll with it to turn that extra roll into an amazing extra custom rainbow roll for the sashimi pieces, it also comes with 2 midi soups, order more at under $2 ea if a bigger group, and comes with a decent size combo salad that includes seaweed salad, cucumber salad, and in out order what I think was smoked octopus salad, anyway it was delish, and I’m sure subject to chefs choice changes. Sashimi pieces are thick, most if sliced thinner and in half could be used to top 4 basic roll pieces. DISHES WE FREQUENTLY ORDER: (⭐️ = on our families favorite, 2-3 of starred choice with every order we make 😋): ⭐️ Tempura (mixed or vegetable) ⭐️ Edamame Kumiko vegetable roll Cucumber salad Poki salad ⭐️ Dragon Roll Salmon tempura roll Golden California or Golden tempura roll Rainbow or Rainbow crunch roll ⭐️ Grand tasty roll ⭐️ Hawaiian roll ⭐️ Cherry Blossom roll And also in the family favorites frequently ordered items. (Good, yet nothing special either): ⭐️ Gyoza ⭐️ Miso soup Teriyaki (any type) We typically order take out or delivery but have enjoyed eating restaurant on several occasions and always enjoyed. If a special occasion. Can think of a couple of alternatives that reservations in SLO & Pismo as alternatives for special occasion dining atmosphere. All in all highly recommend!

Ordered the Yellowtail collar, sushi and sashimi combo, scallop ceviche, Chirashi and Galbi. Fish is fresh, chirashi was packed( thank you). Yellowtail collar was properly cooked not dry like other places. Only thing the cuts of fish are quite large making it harder to eat but the freshness made up for it.
nice place to go for sushi, i haven’t tried anything else yet
Was going somewhere else and made a snap decision to go here. Glad we did. Pretty darn good. Had a bento box, the tempura was nice, and the tonkatsu was also good.
This a great spot for dinner. We got the chirashi bowl, rainbow roll, and baked crab roll. Everything was excellent including the hot sake. Our waitress was very friendly and attentive!

The service was excellent. We sat at the sushi bar and had a very good time talking with the personable sushi chef, Kevin. Due to allergy and not liking spicy hot food, my choices are limited. We had 3 special rolls that were good. They were very large and came with a salad and miso soup. We had a very good experience.
Kumi ko is any typically sushi restaurant but there are a few reasons it's my go to first off the fish is very fresh and very tasty, secondly there is not a single item on their menu that I have heard to be "bad" or had any bad experience with. Additionally there deserts are delicious and they also provide these delicious coffe candies with your bill and the waiters are typically very nice. Would recommend out of all sushi places.
Waiter missed part of our order. Received what he thought I said instead of checking with us. Food was ok came out quick.
I wasn't able to try their sushi, which I do know is what they are known for, so my review may be a bit biased. I ordered their undon noodle soup with chicken, mixed veggies, and mixed tempura on the side. Their tempura was pretty good. It was crispy and not oily! My favorite one was the pumpkin! Their borth on the other hand was not as good. There wasn't enough flavor. It felt like an under seasoned chicken broth soup (I think I tasted more of the cabbage than anything else). Also, my friend had the spicy ramen, and she said it felt like she was eating the packaged Shin ramen. We did also share the crab cucumber salad, which was good. The cucumber was very pickaly and the crab was just immitation, but the size was good! The service was also amazing! Our waiter was incredibly nice and understanding.
Very poor quality. Ordered to go, but not sure if dinning in would have been any better. The Heart Attack was oddly chopped and the filing was a very strange texture. The Crunch Roll was not crunchy nor spicy. The Crab and Shrimp Roll had cucumber and Masago egg's, which the menu doesn't state it has. The overall quality of sushi and appetizers was not great. The two sushi rolls were also packed in the same container.
I’m sorry to say that my experience at this restaurant was far from satisfactory. I ordered the Cody roll special and regretfully, it made me instantly feel unwell. Additionally, the salad served alongside tasted unclean, and the miso soup was stale. To my dismay, the quality of the fish was BAD! It disappoints me to have to leave such a negative review, but the discomfort and sickness I endured are not something I would wish upon anyone.
I expected Japanese ramen in a Japanese restaurant, but I got Korean ramen, which was instant noodles. I think they even made it directly from Shin Ramen, because they tasted the same. Udon noodles are too soft, and soup is flavorless.
