Opinions de Caldo Verde Broadway
My husband and I recently visited this restaurant to celebrate our 7th anniversary, and it exceeded our expectations. The food was outstanding, and the atmosphere was both romantic and beautiful. Special thanks to Megan, our server, whose exceptional service and charming personality made our day even more special. We highly recommend this restaurant. For context, my husband and I travel frequently and have high standards for quality food.
Caldo verde soup was so warm and good! I love the crab and potato, there was also kale and sausage in it. Their breakfast options are great too. Their 3 croissant are made in house and they are so good! Almond one was a little too sweet but the butter and pain of chocolat was great. Smoked salmon was good. Carnitas and hash was good but carnitas were a little salty for me. Arugula salad has a lemony dressing, it was spicy and delicious. Juice is good, recommend the sunrise.
I had always heard about the rooftop at the Proper Hotel, but Caldo Verde at the ground level is a gem of a restaurant and bar. Every bite was delicious, perfectly seasoned and served at just the right temperature for comfort and taste. The bar is very well appointed and the Mezcal selection will make any connoisseur happy. The GM, Kambree, is a gracious host and holds the staff to a high level of service. Highly recommend for foodies and those that want to sit and enjoy themselves in a beautiful urban oasis.
The limited brunch menu is perfect. From appetizers to desserts, everything tasted delicious and just at the right temperature. The food has been described as somewhere between “Spanish to Moorish and Corsican to Portuguese, featuring vegetable-driven market fare.” The decor and stately dining area lends well to a warm and inviting atmosphere. ———- BRANDADE + SOFT EGG cherry tomatoes, chermoula, garlic toast MARKET FISH chickpeas, peppers, broccoli, green olives, saffron aioli PISTACHIO FLAN local citrus, pomegranate, crème fraîche See less
Trendy and fun Portuguese restaurant in downtown. The service was professional yet friendly. I enjoyed the cocktails as well. I had the beef cheek which was delicious. The morsels of meat were tender and served with a rich sauce. A side of crispy sunchokes topped it off. The apple cobbler dessert was tasty. The ginger was a little strong for my taste but otherwise well executed.
Located in the Proper Hotel, this restaurant is a gem. Food is amazing, staff friendly, efficient and guest-centric. Hotel staff and valet also super helpful. Valet parking was only $14. Food prices quitefair for downtown. Be sure to end your meal with the pistachio flan. I ordered the market fish...fabulous. One guest ordered the buckwheat pasta and another the paninni. All wonderful meals. We lingered and there was absolutely no "push" to turn the table. I highly recommend Caldo Verde.
I LOVED the prawns & shrimp campechana!! This was a pretty unique dining experience! I did order the caldo verde, and although it was pretty tasty, it wasn’t my favorite out of all the food we had! Staff were all great and in sync. Atmosphere was perfect and drinks were strong!
Amazing breakfast! While I typically don’t associate restaurants in hotels as fine dining, Caldo completely changed my opinion. The decor is elegant yet relaxed and the food left me excited for the next day. I stayed at the Proper Hotel and didn’t even consider leaving to try another establishment since the menu was diverse enough for me to try something each day. The crab omelet was a particular highlight!
We had a staycation here that included breakfast. The carnitas + sweet potato hash was great and could easily be split between two people. The service here was top notch.
This place was excellent. The staff was on point, the drinks were tasty, the ambiance was beautiful. They took very good care of us and it was greatly appreciated. We will definitely be back.
I was staying at the Proper Hotel as guest for my birthday and wanted to celebrate the “proper” way. The unique blend of Portuguese flavors with a California garnish can be found in each bite. My favorite dish was the prawns, light & delish, and the patatas bravas were crisped to perfection. The executive chef, Chef Chang Sivilay, even took the time to bring a dish out to tell us about the menu which was so meaningful. The ambience at 5:00pm was quite, comfortable and I enjoyed their music selection. Always love the interior design by Kelly Wearstler. My guest and I enjoyed our crafted cocktails — espresso martini &. Oaxacan Old Fashion. I look forward to coming back here very soon.
Great ambiance, good service, its good for first or second date, friends reunion, etc. the food (to me) are more on acidic side, which I am not a fan of it. The crab linguica soup is yummm highly recommended!
Cabrillo at the LA Proper Hotel makes a strong first impression with its inviting breakfast ambiance and upbeat café music. During my visit, I tried the PROPER BREAKFAST from their menu, which offered a satisfying start to the day. The spot also has a tasty selection of pastries, fresh smoothies, and coffee beverages—all ideal for a leisurely morning meal. However, the service was a disappointment. Despite only a handful of guests at that early hour, the server was inattentive and didn’t once check on my table or offer to refill coffee or water, which took away from the overall experience. If great service is a priority, you may be let down here, but if you value good breakfast in a stylish setting and have time and budget to spare, Cabrillo can still be worth a try for the food and vibe alone..
The cocktails at proper are done right no matter where you enjoy. Whether from the roof top to Caldo Verde's brunch, I recommend any of the specialty drinks from the bar. The purple mariposa was beautiful and delicious and the tequila tonic was anything but traditional. The food is delicious but not quite as spectacular as the menu had led me to look forward to, yet it still was well cooked and beautiful. The flavor profile is broad and unique and is a lovely change of pace for a dtla brunch spot. I'm happy to have them in the neighborhood for sure! A must try! 👌
Visited on a Thursday evening, very quiet with few staff on duty. Plating was beautiful and the food was mostly very good. Service was noticeably slow, ceviche arrived without chips (the kitchen noticed and brought them out though) and there was almost a 30 minute wait between the ceviche and the rest of the meal. The hangar steak, persimmon salad, and the ceviche were the standouts. Also the seasonal drink, it was delicious! I regretted ordering their sangria and the patatas bravas, very underwhelming. Ambiance is really warm and nice, but the bathrooms are all the way upstairs which is kind of a pain. I wonder if they are short staffed, either way, a lot of potential here.
Located at the base of the Proper Hotel this Portuguese restaurant is beautifully designed on the inside although overpriced. Our server Emily did a great job tonight and was very prompt. At the end of the meal we wanted to go up to the roof to view the sunset, being that it was a date and we’re locals, but we were told we were not allowed to do so. “It is fully booked tonight” is what we were told although there were only a handful of other diners around us nor did we see any others going up the elevators during our meal. Seems ridiculous to not allow people up briefly after spending $175 for two people. Tonight they had a prefix menu only for $65 per person with a set of first and third courses and for the main the choice between salmon or duck. The flavors were very good although the portions were pretty small especially for the amount they are charging. 1st course was the Red Pepper Campechana, which was delicious but was gone in 4-5 bites. I would have doubled the portion for the price. For my main course I chose the Salmon, which was also very good flavor wise, however I prefer my salmon to be crispier. The inside of this one was a bit cold to the touch. Finally for dessert came the Financier which was a fair portion with great flavors, but based on how much restaurants make for desserts and drinks I was sad to see they chose the make this the larger portion and not the starter or the main dish. Overall a nice meal aside from the portion size and cost. This is why I don’t usually like to do prefix menus at non Michelin restaurants because I prefer to choose what I want to eat versus going with the suggestions.
My first time coming here and it’s a very aesthetically pleasing spot with a great variety of menu options. I started off with the piri piri chicken, prawns, yellow tomato campechana & for dessert I had a pistachio ice cream with peach fruit sides. I also had an old fashion to accompany my dinner. The piri piri chicken was pretty descent with a lot of fries. I thought the chicken quality was ok but nothing over the top(too dry for me but seasoned well). The yellow tomato campechana was a good appetizer but the best part was the dessert. It was a solid pistachio ice cream and the fruit pieces were great. The customer service was excellent and made the dinner a great experience. I think this spot has delicious food and a very comfy atmosphere but it’s a bit pricey. Just be aware that parking is limited and valet is recommended. I don’t think they validate either.
Attentive service in nice setting. Eggs Benedict were delicious.
Good food with good presentation. I expected more for the French toast, but it tasted like ordinary. Hash bowl had a lot of stuff, sour cream, guacamole, lots of meat, and flavor. Smoke salmon was not bad but nothing special. I would order something else more unique. Had to take off some of the tip because they charge customers 5% of staff health insurance thing (don't clearly remember what it exactly said). That is what the employer should be paying for their employees, NOT THE CUSTOMER. We already are paying and tipping for the service that is already included in the foods' price (the irony part of the concept of tip culture). This country is going crazy for real
Excessive prices, and it's not very tasty. They have bland food, without much flavor. The juices are very expensive and not worth it. They're very small and look like they're from a box. The atmosphere isn't worth it either.
