Really tasty food! The chicken pot pie was hearty and filling. The pancakes were fluffy and not overly sweet with a great flavor to them!

Delicious restaurant! Very cozy with space heaters available. Friendly and fast service. Everything was hot and flavorful. They even brought us complimentary corn bread. Highly recommend!

What a beautiful and cozy restaurant. The food was so fresh and delicious. I had the pot pie and my friend had a burger which is now his favorite burger of all time. The ambiance at night is dimly lit and so romantic and the staff is so friendly. I will definitely be back for date night. Thank you FOAF!

Delicious vegan choices. The Harvest Crostini was delicious and my favorite. A cozy atmosphere for a warm, cozy dinner during the winter.

This place is fantastic. My friend lost a fantasy football bet and the bartender was so helpful. He guided my friend towards how to be better in setting his lineup. A true hero!!!

What a great place to celebrate Thanksgiving. The food was on point and the stuff was friendly. Also i really liked the sweet decoration of the Restaurant and the fireplace. Thanks for the great experience!

Really like this spot, the sever/bartender was super cool. We sat at the bar and received excellent service as well as friendly advice on what to order and serving sizes. The food tasted fresh which was to be expected in a farm to table setting, would 100% recommend to a friend, especially for a brunch service on Saturday. It was packed and for good reason, will definitely be back soon.

Amazing quality food, charming ambience and great service. We can here in between lunch and dinner for a quick bite. It was so good we’re already planning our next visit for dinner and brunch.

Millennial inspired farm to table experience. With a rustic country farmhouse atmosphere this hole in the wall was a delightful surprise. Went with a group with kids and the staff had items to help entertain the kids. Overall everyone enjoyed the experience with one issue of the wait staff not as attentive after the food was presented. I would recommend the second floor for dining and the free cornbread topped with spiced apple chutney is worth trying out!

On my last day in NYC, I was craving for a good breakfast. I really wanted to go to some local diner and luckily through Google Maps I got to know about this place. I read good reviews and what intrigued me was the use of organic products in their cooking. I immediately went there after a walk of 10 mins from my place. It sure was crowded on a Saturday morning, there was a waiting time of about 45mins. I waited for 15 mins and got 1bar seat. Ordered their famous Farmers omelette with a coffee and a fruit bowl. Man o man! I can't explain my happiness when I saw the fruit bowl - it was looking aesthetically beautiful and the fruits were so fresh and yummy. The BEST BEST fruit bowl ever. The omelette was absolutely delicious too, coffee was just ok though. Best breakfast experience at NYC. I must suggest this place to everyone. Be sure to reserve in advance. #LetsGuide #ongooglemaps #breakfast

Come for the brunch! I went at Sunday at 9:45ish AM and it was not too busy. The inside seating is really nice and the service is good. The food was great and the coffee divine. Would definitely come back for the breakfast/brunch. Hope this helps!

We are currently on holiday in NYC from the UK.This is our first time eating in this restaurant . We were met by lovely staff and a pleasant atmospheric place. We ate upstairs. The food was delicious. The chicken pot pie I would highly recommend 😋 We were served by Nora, who was so pleasant and attentive. Thank you so much 👌 Plus, we loved the beer you thought we might like🍺

Went there multiple times and its definitely worth the wait! The eggs Benedict are my favorite! The omelettes are also great! Service is awesome, the mimosas tastes great! If you make it to sit outside you got the best spot!

An amazing brunch place with friendly staff/servers and an inviting ambiance. They don’t reservations and it’s first come first serve but the wait is usually 15-20 mins (we were a group of 4), but well worth the wait.

It's a good place with decent food! Loved their pita chips. Cappuccino was good but would have been better if they served little more quantity in a bigger mug!

The outdoor dining experience here was excellent. The staff could not have been more friendly and efficient. The outdoor setup was so well decorated and the environment was warm and inviting. It was pouring rain yet we were warm, dry and comfortable. The appetizers and main dishes we ordered were absolutely delicious. This restaurant has obviously embraced the outdoor dining / Covid reality and it is no wonder this place seems to have remained popular.

Great neighborhood restaurant that has been around for a very long time. It’s a nice little cozy restaurant. They have amazing food options. Especially for breakfast. They try to locally sourced their food for the menu as well. I’ve been coming here for a very long time and will continue to do so.

First of all, the restaurant is designed in such a beautiful way and the "Farm to Table" is incorporated so beautifully and elegantly. The food is great; very delicious and fresh and very simple in the good way. We love the place very much!

First of all the manager is amazing and runs the place like a well oiled machine! But in fact it is a charming cottage in the forest. But in fact it is in Gramercy Park. I wish there was a portal there and I could go to the place it came from. I wish I could eat their vegan pot pie and strawberry tea every day. My server was Antonio. We bonded and he made me feel special. I wrote him a poem after I had an incredible conversation with my dining companion, Sam Rad, a radically optimistic futurist you all should listen to. Thank you farmer for being my friend.

Last night, the esteemed Friend of a Farmer invited the Unconventionals to enjoy an amazing dinner! This family-owned gem has been around since 1986, pioneering the farm-to-table movement in NYC. The vibes and food alike were immaculate! To top it all off, there was beautiful live music to enjoy during the meal. Thank you for having us - we will surely be back!!

R

Amazing spot! Very intimate farm to table restaurant with dim lighting (made it a little hard to read the menu). Food was delicious. Must admit, i cannot remember the last time I had chicken pot pie. This one was piping hot and tasted very fresh. It was also super filling. The cookie skillet had the best vanilla bean ice cream and wasn't too heavy.

Loved the food here! And our server, Louise, was friendly, funny and fantastic! Louise made us laugh hysterically with his jokes. The ambience was great. We did have to wait for about 25 mins before getting a table for 4 for a Sunday brunch. I highly recommend this place.

Line can be long but it moves fast for parties of two. Great food, especially for brunch. The coffee comes in a French press and the hot chocolate is fantastic! Any egg dish is delicious.

Went here for a quick brunch with a friend. We got a table upstairs right away, but they also have outdoor seating. The place is beautiful--local produce is used as decor and as ingredients! The coffee was French press and delicious. They brought out a square of corn bread with apples on top. It was good, but I'm not a huge corn bread fan. I ordered the "Healthy Farmer's" omlette (egg white, feta, spinach and tomato) and it was really delicious and very filling. The tomato and feta were in nice, big , chunks, which I liked. I also had some wheat toast, and the bread was nice and thick but a little lightly toasted for my taste. Affordable prices, good food, nice atmosphere. Totally loved this place! I'd go again!

Brunch opinion pending, but the dinner was delicious, the atmosphere was quiet and cozy, and the drinks were delectable. The short rib was savory and broke off while barely needing your knife. And the mash potatoes were on point, with big chunks of skin flowing throughout. Fresh and flavorable.

I have gone here for the past three years on my birthday. By yourself or with a group the food, atmosphere, and kind staff make it worth it every time. I am so excited for their UWS location to open and to go again this year. Everything was so delicious we couldn’t wait to dig in before our photos 😅

A fantastic experience! Fresh, seasonal food, passionate and knowledgeable staff members who put their hearts into their work all in a beautiful old English setting. We also appreciated the menu options that were a mix of traditional meat dishes but also many vegetarian dishes too! Thoroughly impressed and will be back!

Absolutely delicious. I had the arugula salad with chicken. It was very fresh with perfectly balanced flavors. We also had the blueberry lemonade. Delicious!

I was truly impressed with the brunch menu selection at "Friend of the Farmer"—there were so many tempting options that it made choosing quite a challenge! I went with the boomers (blueberry pancakes), and it was absolutely delicious. The atmosphere is something special, and the service was impeccable. Overall, it’s a fantastic spot for brunch. I absolutely love it!

J

We had the Terry Ann chicken and toasted squash crostini, which I felt were exemplars of down-to-earth, quality culinary innovation. I really enjoyed the touch of stuffed Granny Smith in the Terry Ann chicken, which gave the breast an extra juiciness that’s often lacking in chicken breast dishes. Fantastic freshness with the squash on the crostini, too, which was evidence of true farm-to-table ingredients. The dessert, which was a pumpkin bread ice cream sandwich, took a while to arrive but otherwise was quite nice and homey. I would have given the experience a total 5/5 had it not been for the rather dim environs, and the tables felt a bit squeezy too. But all in all, great food, unassuming vibes and cosy atmosphere - highly recommended!

Lovely experience eating here, service was great and loved the complimentary cornbread with apple chutney. Their farm fresh fried chicken was delicious, definitely recommend eating here!

Still as great as 20 years ago. Fabulous food and great wine selection. I especially enjoyed a Pinot Gris from the Fingerlakes region of the state of New York. My salmon with Brussels sprouts was good too. There was also a delicious free cornbread appetizer with apple sauce. Attentive service and overall wholesome atmosphere. Great brunch options even on weekdays, such as Eggs Benedict with smoked salmon and French Toast. And nice outdoor seating on Irving Place. Inside it's especially cozy in winter with the fireplace on.

Came with my mom because we was coming out an appointment and neither one had had breakfast and as we was walking home we came across this place..... and if was a GREAT choose!! The food was filling and yummy, drinks where really good let's just say "is 5 o'clock somewhere". It was a nice mother and daughter breakfast. The service very attentive BUT not on top of you. When we came in they was nice with a smile even if they was busy still they gave us a nice greeting.

Really good brunch! There’s usually a queue but totally worth it. The layout is incredibly cozy and fascinating. The interiors makes you feel at home, the staff are very friendly, and more importantly the menu looks great. The food is cooked in a timely manner and presented beautifully. I would say the menu is different from the typical brunch menu. And that the French toast is very different to what you’d expect. It feels like a dessert. While I thoroughly enjoyed the menu, there wasn’t a single dish that had all the items I wanted. But the kitchen staff were nice and modified their dishes and served all the extras I had requested on the side (salmon and avocado). Lastly, if you don’t mind sitting at the bar, the corner area right by the fireplace is incredibly cosy on a winters day so I’d stay there

The staff + service was lovely, the food was divine, and the atmosphere was superb. Highly recommended for those looking for a cozy + quiet restaurant with delicious food on a quiet but amazing street! The outside is unassuming but you are wow’d at the ambience as you walk in!

Visited this charming restaurant on Thanksgiving day. Enjoyed a delicious 4 course meal. Corn chowder, veg casserole, turkey with all the trimmings, and apple pie and ice cream. All the food arrived piping hot, and we devoured each course - so tasty. Service was very good, restaurant was extremely busy but we never felt rushed. Set in a quiet street about 5min walk from Union Square. Would definitely return next time we are in New York

When we came here for brunch, there was a line of people waiting and many people were dining both inside and outside. The atmosphere of the inside of the restaurant felt great and warm. The food was well-made and had delicate quality in them! The apple pancake was very good! I wish the portion can be a little bit more, but the experience was satisfactory. They even served a free apple cake(forgot the name) at the beginning, which was very nice of them!

Good brunch experience, especially considering we didn’t have a reservation and there was a crowd waiting outside. We were a group of three, left our name, and were seated after about 35 minutes. The food was good, service was efficient—maybe a bit rushed for my taste, but understandable given the constant line.

We had such a great experience coming here to celebrate Mothers Day the weekend after. When we walked in around 1pm for brunch, one of the servers bumped into my mom accidentally and unfortunately spilt some of the coffee on her skirt. We didn’t think much of it since it was busy and these things do happen. The host told us they couldn’t seat us unless the whole party was there and we were just waiting for my sister to arrive. So we decided to wait outside in front of the next door establishment. We were there for a total of 3 min when the the server who initially bumped into my mom with the coffee( Bryson) came looking for her with a cup of seltzer and napkin saying, “ I thought you left! I was looking for you! I didnt want you to leave unhappy. Let’s get this taken care of for you. “ he literally bent down and grabbed the first layer of my moms chiffon skirt and started to take the coffee stain off with the seltzer. My mom and I were both simply amazed by the consideration and prompt attention after the small accident. That quickly elevated our experience already. Then my sister arrived shortly after and we were seated to the covered front entrance in the left corner. We had the sweetest server, I don’t think I ever got her name but she was amazing. She recommended the burger, the chicken club and the breakfast option where you get scrambled eggs, choice of flavor pancakes, a meat option and hash browns. We ordered all of her recommendations and they all exceeded our expectations. She also brought us complimentary warmed corn bread with house made apple jam. Delish! 10/10 def coming back for more!!! My mom said it was one of her favorite Mothers Day brunch experiences. Thank you Friend of a Farmer. ❤️

I don’t know why I waited so long to try this restaurant. I loved everything about it from the decor to the food to the service. They start with cornbread with an apple chutney which was great. We started with butternut squash crostini, don’t see it on the online menu. It was delicious. I didn’t even know I was eating squash, the honey balanced the cheese and the squash sat on top. The short rib entree was tender flavorful and comforting. One of the best I have had. I don’t eat duck but the person who got it also thought it was one of the best he has had and he has had many subpar duck dinners. We so appreciated our server’s recommendations. I was leaning towards the chicken pot pie and he said it was delicious but will never leave the menu so if we planned to return we might want to try something that could rotate off the menu, great advice. Tried the special cocktail, was something with cherry juice and was a little too sweet for me but wine selection was nice. If you want an eclectic cozy meal with great food I recommend this restaurant.

Friend of a Farmer is one of my favorite restaurants. The ambiance is beautiful with such a cozy and welcoming atmosphere😊 The staff is always very kind and attentive, and I especially want to mention my server today, Terrence, who was wonderful. My favorite dish is the Boomer Special — I always choose the French toast and sausage. It never disappoints! I highly recommend this place for any occasion ❤️

Absolutely amazing food, service and cocktails from start to finish. Great place to go to when wanting to get into a cozy vibe. We got the Bees Knees cocktail, Crostini appetizer, then shared the Duck and Shepherds Pie for our entrees…everything was mouthwateringly delicious 🤤 it was like a flavorful journey that brought joy to our souls and we all need little glimmers of joy, especially right now.

This spot is true to it’s name, serving what I like to call a farmer’s breakfast fit with meats, eggs, potatoes, and some kind of delectable carb on the side. I ordered the Boomer’s special which came with scrambled eggs, meat of choice, pancakes or waffles, plus home fries. I opted for crispy bacon and the blue berry pancakes. When I say that everything was cooked to perfection, I certainly mean it. Eggs were seasoned and tasted buttery, bacon was crisp as requested, even the blueberries in the pancakes were sweet and tender. This was well worth the $27 platter price considering this city has lower quality brunch plates for a few dollars less. I will note that extras, such as a side of the home-fries are an extra $9 for a little cup, but I suppose their profit margin is with drinks and these little side options. My partner got the chicken pot pie and it was solid, but a little on the salty side and a little overly sweet with too much rosemary in the filling. Probably wouldn’t order that again, but in general, this place seems like a well oiled machine. Service was smooth and precise, not overly personal or warm, but we got water and food in a timely manner, and they checked on us at least once. Decor is what some may consider shabby chic charming, but it was a little half-hazard and needed some editing on the second floor, namely with too many baskets crammed into the rafters, gathering some dust.

Went here for a solo breakfast whilst in NYC. Really cosy interior, really enjoyed the design and warmth of it. The staff were very friendly and chatty, which was appreciated. I ordered the boomer special (which is a little bit of everything) with the apple pancakes and the smoked salmon as the protein - it was all delicious and very well done classic American food. Coffee was also great. Thank you 💫💫

Recommend the chicken pot pie. The complimentary cornbread with apple garnish is delicious. Such a delicious starter. Wouldn’t recommend the harvest grain bowl as the texture of the corn and green peas is tough. Incredible service and homey atmosphere. Afterwards, if the Union square green market is going on, highly recommend walking over as it’s so close by.

Lovely little place to grab a bite, to catch up with a friend or colleague, to talk a little shop, to celebrate with a loved one, or to cozy up with a book. This place is a family favorite with excellent and attentive service, a glorious atmosphere, and rustic but delightful dishes. The upstairs area is the place to sit, but spots fill up shortly after they open. Try to make a reservation if you can, or else hope they simply have a spot available for you!

Recently went and it was a very pleasant experience. The meal started off with a complimentary cornbread with apple sauce which was excellent. The burger was top tier and so was the chicken. The servers were attentive but I did feel a little rushed to get through the meal quickly. There is outdoor seating with space heaters to keep you warm. Overall I would return.

Cozy atmosphere, friendly staff and pumpkin walnut pancakes full of light fall flavor. The pumpkin flavor wasn't overpowering the dish. It was a nice and light. I love nuts so I was glad to see all three pancakes had a generous amount of crunch. The syrup gave it a nice sweet touch without being too sweet. Loved the ambience and the staff were all very friendly as they checked to ensure all was well. I will be going back soon!

To experience the feeling of dining in a farmhouse in New York City, is to experience dining at Friend of a Farmer in Gramercy Park. This place exudes coziness and warmth that fills your soul, meanwhile the delicious food fills your stomach. Great food that will leave you full and great drinks that will make you drool. I recommend making a reservation, but if you’re just in the neighborhood pop in and the kind staff works with you to secure a table. Visit with your friends and know you are all supporting locally and a family owned business!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Such a cute spot! The whole place is so pretty even upstairs feels like a little farmhouse escape in the city. The service was great too. We asked our server for some suggestions and she nailed it. We shared the pancake with lemon zest and it was really good. I got the country grain bowl salad with chicken and it was super tasty and full of flavor. Satisfying!! I’ll for sure be back and I totally recommend checking this place out. It’s a real gem!

Charming farmhouse vibes at this quaint restaurant with a menu that is mostly brunch options with some lunch plates. Chicken pot pie was very good, and I nibbled some of my friend’s pancakes which were also delicious. Service seemed a bit inattentive but overall decent. Great option for lunch!

One of our best breakfast experiences in NYC! The food was incredible, especially the apple pancakes. The eggs benedict with salmon was so fresh and delicious, and the pot pie was cozy and rich. Ate breakfast at the bar, service was great. I didnt like the coffee and got the apple cider with spiced Rum. Husband loved the porridge, and I enjoyed the apple pancakes. Everything tasted fresh from the farm and not over salted, sugar, or fried. The eggs were perfect, and the apple chutney was more of a preserve feel. Would come back.

Cute spot! Definitely loved the decor in their outdoor seating area. Biscuits were good, the cornbread waffles were the best and the blueberry pancakes were okay. I think it’s a nice brunch spot.

If you are in need of great comfort food, cooked with farmed ingredients in what used to be someone's apartment with a built in fireplace, and really comfy leather chaired old oak varnished tables for two - go here. 😌🤤

Great atmosphere. Solid food. Lovely service. Didn't feel rushed on a Saturday afternoon. The only reason I'm removing a star is because my omelette was not a true omelette to me. More like the ingredients listed were in folded eggs if that makes sense. Tasted good but not what I was expecting. The whole wheat honey toast with fresh whipped butter, I could eat by the pound. Go. Enjoy. Expect a nominal wait for brunch but certainly worth it.

I went to have breakfast with my mom at this place. The Hostess was super friendly but the waitress not so much. The food was delicious. The chef and his staff went above and beyond. I love the ambiance of this place but it was a bit dusty and the rugs were dirty. The overall look was pretty. It suits its name.

My friend highly recommended us that Friend of A Farmer serves one of the best pancakes and corn bread in Manhattan. Weekend brunch reservation is not acceptable and there is always a long line by the entrance during brunch time, so we would suggest to come early to beat the crowd or make dinner reservations. After being seated, the staff served their signature corn bread in a skillet and it was surprisingly delicious and puffy. For entrees, we had their Chicken Pot Pie, Country Omelette and 2 Boomer Special with Pancakes. Our favorite was their pancakes and it was super fluffy and perfect with butter & jelly. The omelette was also decent with plenty of ingredients but the Chicken Pot Pie was just okay.

Friend of a Farmer is a lovely American farm to table restaurant with a few locations in Manhattan. The Gramercy location has a super cozy and dim lit ambiance that I love. The dinner menu isn't very expansive- there's only about 10 entree options and most of them are quite meat-y and heavy. I got the Terry Alan chicken which was unique and delicious. The chicken was stuffed with shredded apples and cheese, and I loved the combination. It came with an amazing citrus raisin sauce, mashed, potatoes, and lemon bread. The side of fries was perfect. I would return to try their chicken pot pie and have drinks at happy hour, but again there aren't that many options to choose from.

Had reservations for 6 pm and was seated promptly at 6. Atmosphere is dimly lit and quiet - great for date night and conversations. The drink my boyfriend got (Key to the park) was pretty weak and just tasted like apple cider but the food was great. He got the shepherd's pie and I got the vegan pot pie. Both were delicious and tasted home cooked. We also enjoyed the vegetable soup appetizer. Our server was great, friendly and attentive. Would like to return if there's a new vegan option added to the menu to try! Update June 2023 we tried the brunch this time and it was decent. I got the vegan scramble, personally too eggy for me, I like a tofu scramble better. I thought it was going to be like a chickpea potato mash kind of thing but it's actually like eggs. Otherwise it was good.

Have had FOAF on my list for many years and finally decided to give them a try. Luckily we didnt have to wait long for a table for 2 on a Saturday around 1245pm. Host was very welcoming, server was nice but forgot about our table for bit- we noticed that each table around us got a free order of cornbread as they waited, we never did. Food: -I ordered the boomer special with bacon and lemon pancakes. All were prepared nicely, crispy bacon and lemon pancakes although slightly wet were tasty! I did enjoy the potatoes but they were bordering mushy. Also the syrup that came with dish wasn't a typical maple syrup, it was quite nice but didnt have a chance to ask server as she was often MIA. Food arrived very quickly. Drinks: I ordered a latte but received a lukewarm cappuccino lol- I take my coffee seriously, so this was a bummer. Hugo Spritz, was nice but tons of ice and light pour- less than one would expect at the brunch pricepoints. Overall, had a nice, enjoyable meal and even though there was a lack off attention from our server compared to others around us/other servers we witnessed, would be open to give them another try (potentially their UPW location).

Great spot for brunch. Everything baked there is delicious, they bring a little cornbread type dish as a complimentary appetizer and the bread is so sweet it tastes like cake. The whole wheat bread on the chicken sandwich was the best thing we ate. Overall good food and the atmosphere is cute with really small rooms and inside & outside options.

Hesitated a few times before organizing a dinner here due to some reviews. The food is rustic, down to earth and delicious and so so much cheese. The ribs were so tender. Don't know how rest of the place is laid out as we were near the entrance in a crammped nook, also felt the wait staff didn't check on us as often due to the location.

Drinks: 9/10 I’ve visited 3 times. I typically have water or French press coffee. I know that’s a *low* threshold but the coffee is always brewed well, not better, very smooth, and seems to be some sort of breakfast blend because it doesn’t make me jittery. I really like that! I believe the last time I visited, I ordered whatever bottled water they had available. It feels silly to *rate* water but it was fine. Service: 10/10 I’ve never had a reservation coming here but I always get a seat pretty easily. Whenever I’ve come in the host greets me immediately and gets me squared away. I’ve come during busier times and more chill times, the wait hasn’t been more than 10-15 mins. Also the servers are really sweet, knowledgeable, and seem to have amazing timing when it comes to checking in on how the meal is going. Food: 9/10 Always FRESH and the hot dishes are HOT. The entire concept is farm to table so the ingredients are seasonal which will may some dishes different from season to season. The last time I went I ordered: Rose Club - the chicken on this sandwich was really juicy and the sandwich itself was pretty big so I saved half. The fries were really crispy on the outside and pillowy soft on the inside. Biscuit - I wasn’t too much of a fan of the biscuit. If it was called a “roll”, I’d be completely happy with it but it just didn’t give “biscuit”. Cornbread waffle bites topped with caviar and crème fraîche - I’ll think about this appetizer often. The cornbread waffle was delicious, crispy, the right amount of sweet and moist. The caviar was the PERFECT salty, seafood-y addition that truly is a competitor to your favorite waffle and other protein duos. Ambiance: 8/10 I will say I’ve sat outside during the warmer seasons and inside (upstairs) during the colder ones. Outdoor dinning was perfectly fine, nothing stands out in my memory about it being exceptional or unfavorable. Dining indoors is bit cramped however I feel like it does add to a certain coziness level in the space. They also have it decorated for the seasons with a working fireplace upstairs that adds a certain life to the space. Overall: 9/10 I love this place and I’ll return. I can always look forward to consistently good service, fresh/delicious food and a bit of a rotating menu that compliments the season. You really can’t go wrong with that.

❤️ Overview: My friend and I went here for dinner and overall it was a wonderful experience. Our server was very nice, the atmosphere was cute and rustic, and the food was yummy! My friend ordered the chicken pot pie and it was so yummy. If I were to go back, I would get that next time. We both love pot pie, but the short rib caught my eye, even though it was a bit pricy. It was yummy though! ❤️What was ordered: FOOD: short rib, chicken pot pie, and fries. We also got cornbread with a compote on the house. DRINKS: Spicy peach margarita (special cocktail that day) ❤️Stand outs: Chicken pot pie ❤️Would I come back/recommend: Yes - I would recommend Yes - I would come back

Brunch was the definition of mediocre, but packaged at a premium price point. Food was nothing special. Service was bad. The poached eggs in the eggs benedict were so over there was no runny yolk. The breakfast potatoes were bland and mushy. The cornbread waffle was good, but not stellar, and definitely not worth $17. I appreciate the farm to table aspect, but it's not executed well. Our server interpreted someone having an egg allergy as being vegan and she had to continually ask for every dairy component of her dish. He asked the table next to us to clarify their order at four different points.

Friend of a Farmer is place I have frequented for years. A good place to meet a group of friends for comfort food, brunch. I have not been for a few years, BUT in my most recent visit, something changed. Perhaps it is me. I ordered the Boomer special (scrambled eggs, bacon, potatoes and French toast). I found it pedestrian, sorry to say. I could have made the meal myself or went to IHOP, see photo. Eggs were not fluffy nor hot. Bacon I remember back in the day used to be a thick slab. Potatoes unmemorable. I still give it 3 stars as I have fond memories of the establishment and food overall is good but perhaps no longer great? Ambience is country cozy. Clean. Service is very good.

This place was on my list to try for a while. The idea of farm to table hearty food was very appealing and I was hoping it was going to be great. Unfortunately, it wasn't amazing. It wasn't bad either. Just ok. The chicken pot pie was nice, but it didn't have much chicken in it, and was mostly vegetables. The barn burger had great potential. I could tell the quality of the meat. However it didn't have any seasoning at all, hence it was pretty much tasteless. I'm sure many of the brunch dishes will be good, just not these two. All in all I was dissapointed.

Waiting time : 10 minutes (Saturday brunch) Food: OK (eggs benedict & Shepard potpie) Drink: disappointed (espresso martini) Service: OK (they seemed bit off. Asked our order twice, Wrong receipt, but friendly😅) Maybe my expectation was too high. But food was not that much special, there are a lot restaurants for better food with same price

Went for dinner last night at the Gramercy location and, unfortunately, was disappointed in the service. It took around 30 minutes before anyone came over to greet us, offer water, or take our drink order - not what I’d expect from a restaurant with this reputation and price point. The food, as always, was excellent - we had the pot pie, mushroom pasta, and duck, all of which were fantastic. I’ve dined here before and have had great service, so this felt like an off night. It was especially a shame as we had a friend visiting from out of town, and we’d been talking up Friend of a Farmer all week for his last night in NYC. One small note - we accidentally ordered the Beet Tartare thinking it was Beef Tartare (easy mistake!). Our server mentioned this happens often, so it might be worth clarifying on the menu or when taking orders. Overall, I’ll definitely give it another try since the food is consistently great - just hoping the service returns to its usual standard next time.

M
Mayra Mondragon

Overall the food was enjoyable, the best part of our meal were the pancakes. It was an extremely long wait at the line to get seated which was unnecessary for a party of 3 as I saw multiple parties of 4 that arrived after us get seated first. We were seated at a table of 4 seats, why could we not have been seated prior to all of the later parties still not clear. Not recommended for brunch on the weekend as the wait might not be entirely worth it. Perhaps on the weekdays is a better option.

Food is alright. Well presented, fresh, tasty. I'm holding back one of the stars because there was nothing special whatsoever about my Cobb Salad. I've had better in much cheaper places, and the second Star because the service was slow. Waited almost 10 minutes at the end of the meal to order a coffee to ask for the bill.

A

Food was pretty good, definitely not bad by any means, but also not amazing. Service wasn’t good. Waited half an hour beyond our reservation to sit down, took almost two hours from start to finish, as we struggled to get our waiter. Poor portion sizes as well (One slice of cornbread or half a cup of cranberries isn’t enough for 5 people). Atmosphere was great. If I were back in town, I’d consider coming back, but can’t confidently say I would.

In town for just a couple hours on a business trip. My buddy and I were hungry for breakfast and stopped in here. It’s a very simple diner, but had great reviews. The food was really good and the pancakes were remarkable. The reason for two stars dropped was our waitress was pretty rude. Never smiled. Wouldn’t talk to us and looked like she hated being in there. Overall, the food was great with the service just sucked.

I went here once in ~2021 and liked it, but the place has seemingly deteriorated in quality since. The wait was slightly long but it was a Saturday afternoon, I expected that, not a problem. The host in the floral button down and the glasses was really lovely, he deserves all the praise! We sat on the upper floor and I got the kale Caesar with fries, my friends just got fruit bowls and fries/home fries. It took about 30 minutes which feels like a long time for a simple order, but wouldn’t be the end of the world if the food was good. But the Caesar dressing was thin, almost watery, and the croutons were too small and too few. And then I found a hair in my salad— didn’t want to make a fuss so I didn’t say anything, but gross! The fries were good but I was still hungry afterwards. $19 for a poor salad is disappointing, and a $10 extra charge for adding chicken on top of it is absurd. Overpriced and disappointing. Maybe the breakfast is better.

Service 1/10, Food 8/10 not sure what her name is but our server was an older white woman with short hair and we were extremely kind especially since it was New Year’s Day 3pm, but for some reason the service we received was not up to par, we ordered a sandwich that came with potatoes and we asked if cheese can be put on them, our server was extremely hesitant just making a face at us and after a while of us just looking back and forth she said ok I will ask, she came back and said “sorry we can not put cheese on your potatoes, it’s just too busy.” …in the time she took to ask that, they could have easily put cheese on our potatoes. Regardless we tried to enjoy the place, it had a nice cozy ambiance it’s just very tight so I wouldn’t recommend for big groups. I recommend the cornbread waffles, the bacon egg and cheese was very dry and had basically no sauce.

Bad hostess, unable to attend and clarify seating options. Hostess was asked if we can sit at the bar and have drinks while we wait for a table, which she said yes you can do that. After being seated and having drinks served, she came by and told us you need to get back in line to wait for a table. Not coming back for sure

I’ve been before months ago and it was great, but I got eggs benedict this time and it was almost disgusting. Burnt cheddar biscuits as the base, cold potatoes for side, and under-poached eggs with runny whites. Also decor seems so fake, like a city person who fetishizes the farmhouse aesthetic but still feels very compelled towards beige.

C
Claire Louise

I was so excited for this to be my last breakfast in NYC. I showed up and sat in the bar apparently it’s because I was a lone dinner. I ordered and it took thirty minutes for the food to arrive. I was then ignored. I ordered the cornmeal waffle and a side of scrambled eggs. The food was cold so it was not good. I’m so sad that this experience was far less than I expected for the price point. It makes me nervous to come back.

Want to preface with that the staff was lovely -- that being said, didnt love what i got. I got the smoked salmon eggs Benedict. I think i would really like this place if i got something else, but i was disappointed especially for the price. The home fries were really wet and mostly undercooked. Mushy and hard at that same time which was weird. Eggs cooked well, either the holandaise sauce or the lox seemed pretty tart and acidic. Might just be a preference thing, but was a bit much for me. Decaf latte is very bitter and sour -- but to be fair, its hard to have a good decaf.

My friend and I were treated in a really rude way here—among general iciness from our server, we were asked to leave our table the second our bill was picked up despite still having tea to drink and only having been there a little over an hour. I would totally understand if we had been loitering with nothing to finish, I know this is a busy spot, but that wasn’t the case. The food was fine, I just wouldn’t expect a whole lot of friendliness.

M
Marcel

Stopped by on a slower weekday late morning. We ordered 1 order of chicken and waffles a fruit cup and waited over 40 min! While we waited we managed to drink about half of our very bitter, low flavor cappuccinos and later found out... had ordered a $9 bottle of water! Assumed the chicken and waffles would be sweet with syrup, however surprisingly these were covered in gravy... didnt know because it was a special and only described as chicken n waffles by the server... no detail or attention to order by the server... No Thanks!

D
Diana

My food was served to the wrong table and after having it sit with them for at least 5 minutes they tried to still serve it to me. I am pretty sure they just then waited another 15 and reheated the same food to again serve me. Totally unsanitary and disgusting. I then had to ask for the check multiple times. The restaurant is also freezing so it is an uncomfortable dining experience all around.

I have never left a negative review on Google but this shepherds pie was horrible. One of the most expensive item on the menu- $29, and it’s with no flavor, full of mashed potato, very little ground beef (and it’s super dry.) It’s lacking the definition of the top layer and the filling. Really just like eating a whole plate of unflavored mashed potato. Think twice if you are thinking about trying their shepherds pie. I would not recommend.
