Opinions de Alma Brooklyn
Me and my boyfriend checked this place out for Valentine’s Day, the food was great we had tacos and chicken wings which were delicious!!! We were literally in a trance eating our food cuz it was so good! The drinks were amazing also! The service was fast u won’t be waiting for your food for more than 10 mins which is great. They also have a rooftop but it doesn’t open until April and the owner let us know that it does get busy and packed so reservations are usually needed . Definitely go here it feels so warm and welcoming the owner definitely is attentive to your needs and will make sure u enjoy ur time here which I love . Check this place out what are u waiting for?!??!!!
I’ve lived next to Alma for years and always enjoyed the cocktails but never the food. Recently they changed owners and the difference in food is substantial. We had the fish tacos, guacamole, ceviche, tamale and chocolate cake. The tamales were superb, the fish tacos very very good, and the guacamole was amazing. I thought the ceviche was not on par with the other dishes, but since it changes (ours was shrimp) I’ll have to try it again before delivering a final verdict on it. Our neighborhood has never had a great Mexican place, but I’m starting to think that Alma might fill that niche. Plus you can’t beat the views. Let me also add, I have two loud children and nobody gave us grief.
We had such a good experience here! The food is amazing, the drinks are strong and tasty, and the atmosphere is lovely. Our server was Elijah and he was handling 13 tables solo and still crushing it! The best part was our great experience with the staff.
Wonderful experience starting with a generous serving of spicy Margarita in the ground floor bar, and then a nice dinner with more drinks on the roof deck. Friendly and attentive staff, coupled with beautiful views of the Manhattan skyline from the roof deck adds to the experience. Highly recommend it.
Finally made it here and the experience was great. The rooftop has an amazing view of downtown Manhattan especially at night. The service was very attentive and the food came quickly. The guacamole was excellent quality which is always an important indication at a Mexican restaurant. We will certainly be back. In the summer the rooftop must be even better.
Great food here and a rooftop patio with an amazing view of the city. The service was top notch and we had a blast dining here. Getting a table on the rooftop patio can be tough but is worth the wait. We ended up being there for the sunset and it made for a beautiful evening. Highly recommend.
The views are unreal. Truly a Brooklyn local favorite. I got the mushroom enchiladas and they were incredible. Great service. A must for a sunset watch in great weather. They have a retractable awning as well so it's great even if it's raining.
Went here for my boyfriend's birthday and had an amazing time. We didn't have to wait long at all. We were seated, but wanted a table with a view. I asked the waitress and she was so nice and gave us a table with a great view. The food was tasty and the service was great. We especially liked the lemonade and the ice cream. Will definitely come back in the summer.
Excellent rooftop view! Food was quite delicious and authentic with that freshly made taste about it! Only downside was the sun was beating down on me, making it rather warm and uncomfortable until sunset. It does get quite busy here, however most of the staff is very pleasant and welcoming!
We love this place! The food and service are always excellent. The is a good mix of traditional and contemporary dishes. We always sit on the roof - where the views of the harbor and skyline are fantastic! Day or night, the views and culinary experience are memorable.
The food is great. My steak was beautiful. But the staff is friendly and welcoming. Not something I see often. Great views of the city from the rooftop dining area. Charmng decor. All around great experience.
The view is beautiful. The service is very friendly. The food is delicious! I had the special of the day, shrimp tacos and was blown away. I've had lots of shrimp tacos before, but none like this! It was so flavorful and delicious, I'll gladly go out of my way to eat here again. I highly recommend that you go and try their daily specials.
Great views! Food is great but can be very spicy (for me) so just ask. Stairs to the roof can be rough for some people, but if you get up there, you can sit at the bar and watch the sunset. Accessible by the B61 bus!
So there was Mole on the menu as a special with enchilada and it was like "abuelita esta en la cocina". Drinks were great, food and service was great. Nice views of the harbor and lower Manhattan. Alma is a comfy place it is not a fancy place. Great food. I always stick to tacos and enchiladas at these sort of places. Have to say the fish taco did not knock my socks off but the Mole enchiladas were absolutely fantastic. The guacamole was made fresh to order like it has been since they opened and as it should be. Dress is super casual like the space .
Alma is a great place for food and drink. Perfect atmosphere for a date night. An they have multiple floors and a pool table on the main level. Food naturally comes a bit spicy, which I'm a little sensitive to, but they are more than accommodating with modifications. An Mario, the bartender makes THE BEST cocktails!!!
Alma has an amazing rooftop with views of downtown Manhattan. It would be worth a visit just for that, but the food is also amazing. We all shared the Chicken Enchiladas and the Short Rib enchiladas. The chicken comes with a mole negro and the short ribs a yellow mole, which was delicious, and the first time I tried a yellow mole. The cocktails we had were also delicious, and you can tell they take a great deal of pride in the ingredients.
A Brooklyn native introduced us to Alma 2 years ago on our last visit - this time, with parents and grown son and his wife with us we insisted on taking them. It's not just the incredible, stunning view of the Manhattan skyline at sunset, it's the phenomenal service, incredible cocktails, and truly delicious food. The house-made Guacamole is a must. You simply cannot go wrong here!
The overall taste of the food was really good. One of the foods that I enjoyed was the Mexican Burger. The coke was very very fancy. It was a good restaurant and the view was very nice. My brother wants me to say that "The sweet taste of the caramelized onions complemented the meaty taste of the burger".
A low key and chill Mexican eatery. The top floor terrace has a very nice view of downtown Manhattan mixed with Brooklyn gentrifications. Guacamole is creamy and tasty. Medium rare steak torta is perfectly cooked with lots of flavors. A perfect laid back Sunday brunch spot if you happened to be in this neighborhood. Would love to come back and try the dinner menu;)
I have always enjoyed coming to alma. The food is fantastic super fresh the tortillas are top quality. All their sauces are delicious and they have some pretty vegetarian friendly items that are super delicious if you're interested. The staff is super friendly and very attentive. Be sure to reserve the rooftop ahead of time it's well worth it.
I must say I really enjoyed this place.not just for the food and the scenery which were all good but for the service. Came in with our 1 year old and they were really accommodating and friendly. They got us a chair for him and new utensils quickly whenever he dropped any. Overall I really enjoyed the experience and will be sure to come back.
Really nice spot with rooftop views of the city. Mexican plates you'd expect and very tasty indeed. Mezcal and tequila based cocktails were very nice and had a good kick. Check them out after sunset for even better views.
Had a group event here and the service was great! The bar is on first floor, the restaurant on the second/third floors with great views. I wish I had more pictures but the food was great and the desserts were amazing! I had the chicken enchiladas with mole sauce and tres leche with Mexican hot chocolate for dessert. Afterwards, we played pool and hung out on the first floor by the bar. Great atmosphere!
Alma is a whole vibe -- from the rooftop to the last bite! If you're looking for incredible rooftop views, flavorful food, and strong drinks -- this spot checks every box. We ordered a few platters and every protein was cooked perfectly. You could really taste the care in the seasoning -- fresh, bold, and totally satisfying. The guac was super creamy with just the right amount of lime and heat, and don't even get me started on the frozen margaritas... they were freaking bomb. Refreshing, well-balanced, and definitely packed a punch The ambiance is unbeatable -- cozy but lively, with those dreamy skyline views that make your meal feel extra special. And the service? So warm and attentive. The staff made us feel welcome from the second we walked in and checked in throughout the night without hovering. This place is perfect for date night, catching up with friends, or just treating yourself to some rooftop magic. I'm already planning my next visit!
We had great food and a good time at Alma, which has been around for so many years. Tbh there are other dishes on the current menu I'd like to try but we only had standards like guacamole, fajitas and enchiladas. However these were all very tasty and well presented and the spice level was just right for us (medium - I'm sure they'd raise or lower it for you if you asked). The service was excellent and of course there was that incomparable view, especially through the wraparound windows on the mirror- backed top (3rd) floor where we were (the 2nd floor space looked fine, too). We dined very comfortably and happily, overlooking the lights of Manhattan at night. P. S. Some reviews seem to confuse Alma with Bar 61 on the ground floor. I've heard it's a good place, but it's not Alma or a restaurant.
We stopped in for a quick drink and snack while we were in the area. Alma has a perfect corner bar feel and what looked to be an excellent menu, based on the food we saw coming out. My only regret here is we had other plans and didn’t stay for dinner. We grabbed chips and salsa and the salsa was not only homemade tasting, it was one of the better salsas I’ve had in recent memory. We’ll plan better next time and will be back soon!
Came on a Friday afternoon. If you want the rooftop view I would recommend reservations. Please note, there are no elevators and it is a steep 3 flights of stairs but worth it. The rooftop was cozy and had great views of the city. Food was yummy, the pork and shrimp tacos were really good and tender. Carlos was our server and he was super sweet.
I went for a brunch with my family, in addition it was my mom’s bday. The food was really good, the drinks as well were good and strong. The Love Bird in particular was really good. You definitely have to sit on the rooftop as on a nice day the views are really nice and adds to the enjoyable ambiance of the spot. Highly recommend for brunch, I can’t say anything for dinner but I imagine it’s solid as well.
Alma is the perfect spot for a casual night out! The view is one of the best in the city, the food and drinks are good, and the service is friendly! Best of all, it won’t break the bank! My girlfriend enjoyed a table on the heated rooftop where we ordered an array of food and drinks. We shared the chips and guac to start and it was really good - fresh, light, tasty. Next, we both ordered a bunch of tacos that were all really good. If I recall correctly, my favorite was the steak taco. I ended up having some Coronas and my girlfriend and I both had a bunch of their margs. I would highly recommend their margs, they’re tasty and strong! We ended with some churros, and they were good especially with the chocolate dipping sauce! Our server was great. He knew the menu well, offered recommendations, and was quick to check up on us. No complaints. As I mentioned before, the views are crazy good. Try and get a table close to the edge of the rooftop because they have the best views. Just trust me, you won’t be disappointed.
We went to the rooftop. Rooftop and restaurant have 2 different menus?!? Drinks were tasty. Service was ok one server was far better than the other. Food was tasty...I noticed all 6 of our plates were empty. I had the short rib enchilada. Very very good 👍 Lastly, roof top view of lower Manhattan looked like a painting. Would go again!
The drinks were amazing! Kudos to the bartender. The service was great. We stayed for a long time and they never rushed us to leave. The food was good for what it was. I had ceviche and steak. They did listen when I asked for medium rare, more on the rare side. Overall I'd recommend it for the drinks, vibes and views.
Beautiful rooftop views. Started off with Chips & Guac that were great! I thought the margarita was perfect but little over priced. For $16 I expected a larger glass. The food was just ok as far as taste but it was nice and hot straight from the kitchen. The waitress had no personality, greeting, volume or smile. It became the conversation of the night how robotic she was. We ended up having other servers help us in between her long disappearances. We actually thought there was a shift change because we saw all the other servers except her. She was super weird and depressing that we left earlier than planned. She had to be on something.
Very tasty Mexican food in a pretty authentic locale. The first floor bar gets pretty packed, but the upstairs restaurant has a ton of space, so don't miss out. The margaritas are great and there's a pretty decent beer menu too. Te food was great with some delicious tacos and burritos with great ingredients. Service was also super fast, very appreciated with dealing with hungry toddlers. It's a little bit out of the way, but well worth the detour to visit.
The food was great and very well seasoned. The view is amazing and I certainly recommend bringing out if town guests here who are interested in seeing NY from a local's perspective. Unfortunately the wait for someone to take a drink order or check in after we were seated was a bit long - the food made up for this though. It was cold because they kept a portion of their rooftop panel opened to be outdoor dining as I'm sure indoor dining would have severally limited their seating options. It wasn't crowded, but I do wish they had more heaters. There were only two which covered really only two of the five tables that were sat. Regardless, I definitely want to go back when it's warmer. Super cool spot off the beaten path.
The rooftop here has a wonderful view and the layout of the tables gives it a cozy feel. Went here for brunch and was impressed with menu. Service was fast and kind. Kind of off the beaten path a little though you can take the b61 bus to get here. If the front door is closed walk around the corner and there is another entrance.
Alma BK is a solid spot that I visit mostly because of the great scenery upstairs and the drinks. The views are fantastic, especially if you’re looking for a place to relax, enjoy a drink, and soak in the atmosphere. My wife absolutely loves it here, which is why we end up coming back. However, when it comes to the food, there’s not a ton of variety to choose from—just one or two standout options for me. I don’t hate it, but I don’t love it either. It’s a bit of a middle ground: not bad enough to deserve a 3-star review, but not excellent enough to earn a full 5 stars. For me, 4 stars is where it stands—good enough to enjoy a nice evening with drinks and a view. If you’re looking for a place to hang out, relax, and take in the sights, Alma BK is a great choice.
We had to wait over an hour for a table on the rooftop (the wait for the lower-level seating was next to nothing), but I was glad we did; the view is stunning. The food was just pretty good and a bit overpriced. They do not accept reservations, but will call a phone number you provide when your table is available, so you don't have to wait at the bar.
With the amazing downtown Manhattan skyline in the background and some delicious food to boot, this Mexican restaurant is worth visiting if you're in the area. It has 3 floors, and of course if youre a big fan of views, you have to sit on the third floor. Because it's in Brooklyn and you won't find parking easily, but drive a few blocks down on Columbia St and you'll find something eventually.
Really good food and atmosphere. Margaritas was amazing but a little more expensive than similar places
First time we’ve been here in September 2023. The only downside was crazy swarm of bees flying around. Owners didn’t bother to somehow inform prior to sitting or help resolve the issue. Second time we’ve stopped by yesterday, on Mother’s Day. Here are some menu prices: taco (2 small ones per portion) - $15, guacamole - $18, margarita - $15, a bottle of lager - $9. I could consider the prices as reasonable if food/drinks would be really good, but they were okay at most. Meat/shrimps were fresh, but nothing special, like you know, special sauce, or herbs. I checked some places around Brooklyn and this one seems to be too pricey with no much added value.
First two times were sitting on the roof top, but this time out of luck for rooftop seating. Food was good, but the dishes we wanted are not on the menu anymore. The new menu has only few options. The drinks were good we like it a lot. Overall we had good time except we were sweating throughout the meal because the AC was cold enough. Hopefully they will bring back the original menu and proper temperature for indoor dining.
Wonderful wonderful service. Very friendly staff and good food. We sat on the rooftop and enjoyed the views. Drivers, parking was available on the street but do give yourself a few extra minutes to find a decent spot. We ordered Short ribs (nice sized portion), ceviche and a shrimp dish. Simple menu with quality food. A wide variety of Mezcal here. I wasn't a fan of the one I tried. Hand sanitizer at every table. Clean bathrooms as well.
The food is pretty good, but felt overpriced for what it was. The portions are expensive and small, but don’t feel elevated like you might expect at the price point. Didn’t like that chips, salsa, rice and beans have to be ordered individually and cost $5 each which adds a lot to the bill which is usually included in the price of the entree at most similar restaurants. The view was nice, but not nice enough that I felt it warranted the price.
The rooftop views make this a good summer drink spot but you can skip the food. Dinner( queso fundido, short rib enchiladas and fish tacos) were all pretty ho hum. The guacamole was the most flavorful part of the meal but the chips were stale.
Food atmosphere cleaniness was good had fish tacos. Taco had somewhat raw taste drinks where good. We were rushed out with staff stating they needed the table when no one was waiting & 4 other tables were empty & available.
Sadly, the food was trash. Fish tacos were like rubber. Shrimp tacos were very mediocre. Guacamole ($15) was fine, nothing special. Elote (corn) also super lazy. Drinks were good though. And of course the city view from upstairs is spectacular. Worth coming here for drinks, but between Red Hook and Carroll Gardens, there's many other much better food options nearby. I rarely leave negative reviews, but this place was surprisingly disappointing and I want it to be better. I hope it improves
ok, i’m sure this COULD be an amazing place, but when we went, they had a limited menu because they are renovating their kitchen. they didn’t have elote or burritos or it was either rice or beans. what???? the views are fine from the rooftop. there was some construction going on next door. the portions are pretty small. although the food was tasty, we did end up eating elsewhere afterwards. 2 teeny tiny tacos were $15 and people in my party ended up ordering 2 orders of tacos each, plus chips and salsa and an appetizer. the ceviche, while good, does not come with chips, which i found to be odd. everywhere i’ve gone has offered chips. anyway, i did enjoy their chips and salsa tho. they are thin. it was cute, but i wouldn’t come here if i was starving. it’s more for snacking.
The highlight of this spot was the dessert! Everything else, including the drinks, were mediocre at best. We sent back one drink that was so dreadful. The margaritas were ok, the frozen were better the ones on the rocks. We went for taco Tuesday and they were “blah.” The service was great! The outdoor street ambiance was really great.
All i can say is " eeeeh" . Literally everything was so so blah. The food was cold, the chips were stale.the salsa was ok. The tortilla seem homemade so that was nice. The nachos had a odd tasting cheese, like plastic ish. Rice and bean cream is 10 dollars. You get such an a small amount of rice that my 3yr old wanted more. The rooftop is uneventful, is literally big windows that are opened. They do have a lot of outdoor seating. I tried making reservations online but it was "booked". Still decided to go in and it was pretty empty.
This place was the local TikTok Tavern overrated hotspot of summer 2023. You’re paying marked up prices for views and Instagram photos, not higher quality food. Food is pretty low quality and portions tiny compared to the more humble Mexican establishments in the South Brooklyn area.
Sad what’s happened to this place. Not only has the menu changed, the food quality has too. There’s close to no non-meat options on the menu and the prices are just ridiculous for that they serve. 3 tiny over fried and over salted fish tacos for $21 is a joke. The guac was bland and seems like it’s half sour cream or something. Just not good at all for $15 an order. For that price they should offer grilled fish and larger amounts of fish. Overall it’s disappointing. $5 (meh) chips and a small serving of salsa… they should at the least offer a second dish of salsa. I suggest find another spot in the area.
I wish i could leave a better review because our server was a really nice guy, but 2 things really jumped out at us: the portions were verryy disappointing, and I was charged more than what was quoted on the menu (appetizer, main course, sides & drinks). For these 2 reasons it wasnt a very favorable experience.
Nice view, only. And super expensive for not fresh food ($10.00 for a bit of rice and some Sort of bean cream..) Pre-made not fresh guacamole, (meaning it's not Made at the restaurant from scratch) not fresh tomatoes, burned tasteless steak and chicken, food needs a serious fresh upgrade, especially if you look for good Mexican Food.
I gotta say I was very excited to come to this place, because I heard such good reviews from bartenders from other places(I should have figured they work there so they would say good things). We Went upstairs to the rooftop and from the moment we went to the host stand we should have just left. I asked for a table for two and I am not even kidding, there were at least 5 employees standing by the host stand trying to figure out where to seat us. I understand it’s a Friday night which a busy night. However, they just all talked amongst each other while we just stood there waiting to be seated,it felt like they didn’t even care we were just standing there waiting(Bad Vibe) no apology or anything what so ever someone eventually just told us to follow them. Our table was wobbly(no one bothered to fix it). Then our server came to the table, we ordered Guacamole to start (I do not recommend unless you want bland guacamole). We got our drinks($15 for a margarita in a lowball glass, only half full). Margaritas weren’t even that good(At a Mexican Restaurant). Our entrees came, which were actually good(not amazing but compared to everything else, it was the best thing). Server didn’t ask us once if we were doing fine or needed anything. I had to get his attention to get another drink(Twice). Overall, it was a very disappointing experience. I will never come to this place again nor recommend it to anyone(I feel like the hype is that they have a rooftop, I rather travel into Manhattan for that honestly). If you want Amazing Mexican food and service, go elsewhere.
Had a dinner service here last night. View isn’t too bad of the city. Service was good, had an issue with the server who acted a bit unprofessional after we inquired over really really overpriced shots. Enchiladas were premade (couldn’t substitute the cheeses) but were tasty. Guac was really on point. Menu was kinda lacking, one of my friends had the tacos and he said it was pretty good, although very small and not filling.
Food was ok but not really worth. It snowed and we felt safe on the rooftop as they had a cover that was good enough. Portions were kinda small but drinks were good and chips and dessert were all good portions. Kinda pricey but they were very nice
This had been on my list for a looooong time and specifically for their brunch. I came all the way from Inwood (and due to major subway delays it was a near two hour journey). I arrived and was impressed with the expansive three level indoor, outdoor, and rooftop seating. The view from the roof is fantastic and decor is incredible. It was pretty empty(just three tables on the roof) but it was 2pm and on pride. When the menu was presented, none of the brunch items were on it despite the website saying it was served on weekends until 4pm. The server explained website was out of date and no brunch was being offered. The food we had was decent but nothing special and not worth the trek.
Well... Let's start with the good aspect---the service, cuisine, and ambiance is very good; they have three floors. Everyone seems to have been enjoying their food. The top floor is open air; you can take some very nice pictures of the Brooklyn docks and the lower Manhattan skyline. They have a small bar on the top floor too. The 1st and 2nd floors are well air conditioned but nothing to rave about. Now the bad... It's way too pricey for what you get... for example, I ordered an appetizer of salsa, guacamole with tortilla chips and 1 Modelo Negra beer... no draft beer available 😪... the price came out to around $23.00 which includes the tip! Most, if not all of their main cuisines start at $19.00. It's just too expensive! Review the picture to review what I ordered. 🖖
*WARNING TO ALL* This place is one of the most overrated spots in downtown Brooklyn. To start, there are completely different menus for the rooftop and sidewalk that come with their own different prices for the same exact dishes. My group of 3 ate at the rooftop and the whole atmosphere was so dark we had to use our phone flashlights to see anything (we're not hard of sight). The food was mediocre at best and the margaritas we ordered were $16 for not even a regular sized glass (sidewalk bar does pitcher sized for $14). They tried to butter us up by saying the 3 sauces they included with our entree were "on the house" which was a nice touch until you literally hear them say that to every single table around you. This whole place screams scam and ripoff at every turn. They don't even have authentic and original Spanish food items on the menu that you would typically expect. The side dishes are laughable in portion and do little combined with the poor presentation and taste of your selected entree. Even the basic service of eating at a restaurant and staff asking "how is your meal/how is everything" doesn't happen at this restaurant. It is an awful shame and would not consider taking friends/family/date or even to pickup/take out from here. I'm writing this in depth review literally minutes after just eating there and paying a WAY overpriced bill for what we experienced there. Will NEVER RETURN HERE. BE WARNED!!!!!!!!
I just want to be completely honest. The price does not match the portions. Food was not bad, but im just not satisfied with the portions being that small considering how expensive it was. “Quality over quantity” i get it, but you can’t be skimping food.
Walk-In with my friend around 11pm cause I saw the fight(ufc317) on the TV. There were like 2 other people sitting down as well pretty empty. We got 2 drinks, 5-10mins later they changed the TV to some random football game, mind you place was practically empty on a Saturday night, NOT ONE person was paying attention to that game. So I started to watch on my phone, when we tried to order another round of drinks the mustache bartender legit only came to my friend and took his order and ignored me completely. 5-10mins pass by, still hasn’t asked me about another drink even though I tried to flag him down to order, was being completely ignored. Eventually I lost interest in spending anymore money here, definitely will not come here again or recommend this place to any one, if this is how their service goes with just 4 people in the bar. Can’t imagine how’d it be when busy.
It makes me sad to write this review. ALMA was one of my favorite places to go when we were celebrating or when I had friends from out of town. - this was about 9 years ago. Today I was in Red Hook and decided to revisit. The staff was friendly enough but the menu was lacking. They had apps, like mushrooms and cheese, Guacamole or chips with salsa. No decent salads, no maduros or tostones. I ordered the special, Duck. There was nothing special about it. Toughest meat I've ever had (pork. Beef or chicken) and that was alarming for duck. My daughter ordered the habanero short ribs tostada and though she loves spicy, there was no other flavor but heat. Same with the rack of short ribs, spicy and bland. Cheesy rice, bland. But the real kicker were the drinks. My daughter ordered a ginger ale and it came in a tumbler glass w ice. That was like 1/2 a can of soda for $4!!! They use to be served in a pint glass. Between my husband, 7yr old daughter and I, we spent $140 and this was painful considering how awful the food was. If you have $140 to throw in the garbage, do it. They still have a pretty good view of Manhattan. But if you want to spend your money on a delicious dinner, THIS IS NOT THE PLACE. You're not going to impress anyone by bringing them here... deeply disappointed. I feel hustled
