This has been one of my favorite dining experiences this year so far. Had a res for Thursday dinner but surprisingly not as busy as expected. The ambiance is cozy and welcoming. Service was great! I wish I remembered our waiter's name but he had glasses and a small pony tail. But he had great recommendations for both food and drink and was very helpful in explaining the dishes further. 3 of us got the Whipped Mackerel, Cantabrian Anchovies, Wild Shrimp, Octopus, Squid a la Plancha, King Oyster Soba, Cod Pot Pie and Venetian Style Risotto. Might've been a tad bit too much food but was happy to try it all! The Cantabrian Anchovies and Wild Shrimp were really stand out dishes for me. The Cod Pot Pie was good but nothing particularly special and everything else was still very enjoyable. On the pricier side so perhaps a nice date night or to treat out friends and family that are visiting. Cannot wait to return!
We ate "outside" in an enclosed and heated structure. Absolutely delightful. Sorry to hear they're being dismantled. The food was a delight and service was friendly and just the right level of attentiveness. The menu is great for sharing. You can't go wrong.
Amazing neighborhood spot for an intimate dinner. The service is absolutely fabulous and there to make sure your time is perfection. And the food is out of this WORLD.
Best restaurant in the neighbourhood and one of my favourites in the whole city.
Absolutely wonderful. Had dinner with my daughter and son in law while in town for a business meeting. Loved the poppers! Wait staff was terrific. Every dish had unique features. Very difficult to determine a favorite. Cant't wait to return!
Came here for Mother’s Day dinner and we had such an inventive tasty meal. The flavors were unexpected, inventive and super fresh. I knew that seafood would be amazing here but service was also super friendly as we sent back barnacles because stupidly I was expecting something else and they sent a dessert in place as we didn’t eat the other dish. The wild shrimp dish is divine!
Everything was delicious. Service is incredible. Portions are perfect if you stick to the recommended amount of dishes. Fisherman’s stew was insane. Def stick to the seafood (steak was weakest but still good). Wine list super thoughtful too. I will be back for more.
Had a wonderful dinner. Pleasant and hip yet as welcoming to 60 somethings as it is to 20 and 30 somethings. Delicious and creative small plates with a focus on seafood. Extensive wine and cocktail offerings as well. Friendly and attentive service. Lively yet still quiet enough to easily have a conversation over dinner. Add photos
Had a lovely date at this restaurant last night. Our host Anna was so charming and welcoming, and the drinks made my Henry were divine. The food was fresh, innovative and delicious. Will definitely be returning!
Henry is the best bartender! So sweet and caring! Every dish at this place is a unique piece of art and I am enjoying every evening spent here! The best for a date night , and also for those picky gourmands like myself. Must try!
One of the best meals I’ve had in New York in a minute. Incredibly fresh ingredients and gorgeously delicious combinations, lovely wines, and a great atmosphere. Will definitely be back for more!
Creative and delicious small dishes. We were two and ordered a snack, two cold and two hot dishes. Service was good, a little slower for the hot dishes. Our waitress was superb. The atmosphere is much brighter than a typical NY restaurant and there are only stools to sit so it may not be easy for some older and heavily pregnant people. Highly recommend the food here. Great addition to the neighborhood.
Some of the best seafood I’ve had in New York. Highly recommend to get a few plates and share. Everything I’ve tried was excellent. My favorite is the grilled squid with pine nuts and mushrooms.
I have never been to a restaurant that is this delicious and the flavours are out of this world. Amazing service and amazing food. You deserve more than 5 stars. Definitely coming back again.
Food was very tasty especially The wild The shrimp was flavorful, but the service definitely has room for improvement—it felt a bit pushy. We originally ordered five dishes for two people, intending to order more later or get dessert, but the server kept insisting that we needed more. The restaurant wasn’t fully booked, and it was a vibe killer that we couldn’t order at our own pace.
My boyfriend and I casually walked in and was very pleasantly surprised! Each dish had a lot of flavor and the ingredients tasted fresh. Dining here made us walk out happier!
The food I had here was delicious but the portion sizes are tiny, not just small I mean TINY. I do mean to emphasize how amazing the food is though, they clearly have a very passionate chef. Cocktails were good, but in my opinion not amazing like the food is. The vibe here is date night or cute dinner with a couple friends. Very chill but in a tasteful and urban elegant way. I’d recommend going. Expect to have parted with $100-150 pp at the end of the night though.
Atmosphere was so perfect (date night!). The food is sophisticated yet approachable. Clean, fresh, excellent culinary. Best meal I've had in a bit. The Anchovies, Watermelon Salad, Risotto ALL outstanding. The NA drinks were also excellent with the same attention to detail as a traditional cocktail. The Staff is attentive and incredibly warm.
Great food! Very nice and calm atmosphere, great for dinner! Very recommend this place
When one of our favorite restaurants in Cobble Hill/Carroll Garden, La Vara opened a sister restaurant, Saint Julivert next door, we couldn’t wait to try. Saint Julivert is a seafood centric restaurant. It’s a causal restaurant with high top tables and bar seats. We ordered head on shrimps, whipped mackerel, Manila clams and Hamachi collar for dinner. Our favorite dish was the Manila clams with coconut bacon broth and oysters crackers. The broth was full of flavor but not too heavy with fresh clams. It was one of the best dishes I had this winter. Another winner was the Hamachi collar grilled with jerk sauce. The collar had a lot of tasty meat and cooked perfectly. The flan was delicious end to a lovely meal. The servers were all very friendly and helpful. The wine menu was balanced with affordable choices of white wines to pair with dinner.
Spectacular seafood small plates that have been consistently served up for years. Any order that doesn't get the jerk fish collar (when it's on the menu) is making a mistake. Another amazing hit spot
Absolutely sublime. A neighborhood treasure and worth the trip to cobble hill if you don’t live in the area. Exemplary Presentation, service; and creative dishes. Noteworthy knife work on the dishes to boot. Always a fan of tapas sized dishes for a tasting style meal. Totally worthy of a Michelin star. A seriously incredible value for cuisine at this level.
Surprisingly it wasn’t crowded on a Friday, maybe everyone was out of the town for the Labor Day long weekend. Inside are only high tables and bar seats, a mix of industrial and minimalism style. Rip and dip is a new item on the menu, veggie frittata with taro, peas, cilantros etc, the dipping sauce made the dish even better. Pig ear terrine is so tender that it was melting in the mouth very quickly. The swordfish belly has good amount to fat, which made the dish meat neither dry or plain. Cream spinach goes well with the fish. Service is great and the staff is very attentive.
The food here is incredible and unique. Our service was one of the best that I’ve received in New York. Was a perfect date night spot, it has romance and grade vibes overall.
Food was fab, service was fab, wine and drinks were fab. Flavors and style had contemporary flare while still being comfortingly delicious. Sat outside and our server (from NOLA!) took the best care of us. It’s refreshing to dine somewhere that feels worth the price. Nyc is already so expensive but this place is definitely worth my hard earned cash. Can’t wait to return!
A nice addition to their good-food-corner of Clinton St., Saint Julivert is able to serve a complete menu of exclusively seafood. The results is a surprising flavourful journey that makes you rediscover the pleasure of fish dishes. If often fish happens to be the least interesting choice on a menu, what would you choose if you are on a diet, here it is all different and seafood is the king of taste. Spices and strong beautifully balanced flavours are at the center of attention supported by a good choice of wines. Not to mention that the place are all very very pretty, word of graphic designer.
Small plates of very delicious food. I understood going in that it was going to be pricey, for a guy from Philly, all the reviews showed $100+ per person, I guess I just didn't expect that I would leave hungry. But all good, it was delicious and the staff were great. The cocktail prices were reasonable.
Pretty amazing. They have a prix fixe happy hour from 5 to 6 that's out of this world. Highlights: -anchovies: didn't know I was in the anchovies but they're really great -cold shrimp: great citrus flavor. -squid entre: I'm not generally into the texture of squid but the sauces were so good and the way they prepared it was perfect
Dining here is a fantastic experience. The tapas-like dishes are unique and flavorful, the restaurant is intimate and the ambiance is light. Make sure to order a large variety as the dishes are all very unique. The standouts for me were the Octopus, Jerked Hamachi Collar and Squid a la Plancha.
We had a fabulous dinner at Saint Julivert. We sat at the chef’s counter. Our servers, AJ and Bex, were absolutely delightful, very informative and efficient. They explained the menu well and went over the day’s specials . The portions are perfectly sized and they are to share. We had 2 starters, 2 chilled plates and 2 large plates. The dishes were with just the right amount of heat and there is a wonderful array of fresh herbs that were used. I love that the dishes came out one at a time and did not overwhelm us. The cocktails are unique and flavorful. We met the manager, Rob, who was so very pleasant. We briefly chatted with the chefs who were busy but still made time to chat with us. We met more of the staff and I am sorry that I did not get all their names because they all deserve recognition for making this a MUST GO TO restaurant. There is not a single negative with this restaurant. It was excellent.
Fantastic dinner. Great service. What more can you ask for? Can't wait to go back!
All around fantastic time at Saint Julivert ✨ The space is narrow, but nicely designed; I recommend sitting at the bar. Our bartender/server Omie (not sure if this is correctly spelled) was super nice and gave some great recommendations, which really elevated our experience. Every dish we had was delicious, but our stand outs were the whipped mackerel, the shiso tacos, the jerked hamachi collar, and the mezcal flan.
Wonderful experience all around. Service was warm, friendly, and attentive. It was very helpful when it came to suggesting pairings. The wine and cocktail list is great. The food was really excellent. I recommend the Amberjack and Hamachi collar. Dessert, we had the mezcal flan. 10s across the board.
Terrific food and engaging, friendly service. Inventive dishes with incredibly fresh ingredients. We loved everything we ate and felt the portion sizes were perfect for sampling a lot of the menu while striking the appropriate balance of feeling satisfied, not wasting food, and still enjoying each dish to its fullest. Only caveat would be outdoor dining - if you're going to be in their covered shed, avoid rush hour.
Never cared for diving in the ocean. But man did Saint Julivert take us on a deep sea adventure on his ship the Saint Julivert. The setup is cozy and dark loved it. The food. Omg. A journey. We started with this eggplant labneh dip with fun looking bread sticks. We were above the sea still. As we dove we went through amazing taco bites and lobster tostadas. And it culminated with this squid ink pasta and cod pod pie. Worth it worth it. Our highlights were the tostada and the tacos.
What a great b day dinner! Was originally headed to Tribeca. What a perfect detour closer to home. While this is tapas and portions are tapas, the flavor explosion is well worth it! Just amazing. Everything was perfect and the impromptu flight of whites is certainly what makes this a fun place. One standout that had us licking our spoon was the corn, clam, lobster stew. Thank you 🙏🏻
This place is next door to another very good Spanish restaurant, La Vara, and no less impressive in their creativity and quality of food. However, this place is more specialized on seafood. Nevertheless and despite really tasty seafood plates, I enjoyed the most their traditional Portuguese beef cheek and tongue sandwich.
elegant neighborhood spot with honestly delicious food but bit crowded in there and rushed us out after a quuick moment which left a weird taste. impressed by the atmosphere and flavors despite facing a wall for seating. had the hamachi collar which was soft and delicious as expected and jerk flavored, along with whipped mackeral which gave japanese vibes and was an interesting pairing with sourdough, and cod pie which was like a warm croissant filled with fish meat and surprisingly good. just wish that one host wasn't so rushy but the rest of the staff was quite kind and nice
A more contemporary, wine-bar feel sister restaurant to La Vara next door. The food and wine menus are well curated, featuring tapas-style seafood dishes perfect for share. Highly recommend the mackerel mousse, fried olives, wild shrimp, and the fish pot pie. Note that everything is on the saltier side (for me) and the portions are small (we got 6-7 dishes for two). Overall great experience and very helpful and friendly service!
A very wonderful and magical dining experience! A surprising and delightful taste that I never thought could be paired with food in such a way. The shrimp meat is fresh, with a slight sweetness and the fragrance of yuzu garnished well balanced. The cucumber in the octopus removes the flesh in the middle, making the taste more delicate.
Saint Julivert is beyond everything 💐 It was my anniversary night and we decided to come here for the first time, we were so amazed by the food, drinks and atmosphere (I have to say, everything was delicious). Service was incredible, I think we get to met one of the owners that night too and talk to us about the restaurant. It’s a cozy, smooth place. 100% recommend this local jewel ✨
Amazing seafood-focused restaurant with innovative dishes. My favorites were the raw wild shrimp and cooked squid dishes. I also enjoyed the whipped mackerel and clam mushroom soba, nice flavors without being too heavy. I would skip the chilled octopus dish though - I felt like it lacked the depth of flavor that the other dishes had
🏅 AWARD WINNING COASTAL CUISINE 🦑 Michelin couple Alex & Eder creates a creative culinary restaurant inspired by coastal seafood regions from Spain / Japan. Saint Julivert is a hidden gem on Clinton Street and judging by the lively interior, it’s no secret that this is a popular destination for foodies and restaurant savants. The interior is modest in size so it feels more like an intimate chefs kitchen / bar with high tables and counter tops. Our waitress, Winnie, was terrific and guided us through an assortment of seafood dishes to try. She said this was more of a shared dish style and gave us a great range of options. The food was INCREDIBLE. Presentation was top notch, like artistry using a palette of seafood and complimentary fruits / vegetables. Each bite was not only delicious but you could appreciate the layers of different flavors from tangy/tart to smoky/savory. My absolute favorite was the shiso leaf wrapped raw seafood appetizer. Everything here is amazing!!! Premium cuisine at a premium price. Highly Recommended ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
*GREAT time and overall experience* Saint Julivert feels like a hidden gem, in Cobble Hill. The seafood was outstanding with a pleasant ambience and excellent service making for a very enjoyable evening. At the time we had went, we ordered their special Barnacles dish! Never had that before so it was a must to try. Oh that was a funny thing to eat (and actually very tasty). We also tried the 'chilled' octopus (amazing) and whipped mackerel (so good) amongst others. We also had a fish we watched as they deboned in front of us which was very impressive as NO bones were left behind. Definitely will go back
Wow. Just wow. Came on a Sunday night (2 couples) and all were thoroughly impressed. Sat by the window at the entrance, which was very nice, though us ladies had to pull the table closer to eat comfortably. Some of us started with drinks and one was made a yummy mocktail by the bartender who was more than happy to oblige. We had a fantastic waiter who shared the specials and offered some advice when asked. We started with the Cantabrian Anchovies, whipped mackerel, and head on shrimp. All were amazing, and came with bread. The beet butter was a standout paired with the anchovies, and the shrimp were to die for (we contemplated getting another order). We shared dinner as well and got the asparagus, Octopus, and Hamachi collar. Again, all were incredible. The hamachi collar was a standout, truly unique and we all kept picking at it. We rounded out the night with flan and never felt rushed, even in the great spot we had. Will absolutely return again. Impressive meal in an adorable spot.
This is one of the best tapas spots I have ever tried, hands down! We ordered the special, the sole with Thai inspired vinaigrette, the octopus, the beet salad, risotto, oyster mushroom soba, and the whipped mackerel. Every dish is extremely balanced in terms of flavors and texture (I prefer milder tastes for reference). And the combination of ingredients of each dish is so delightful and delicious. For example, the roasted hazelnuts paired with the beets is a surprising burst of flavors that leave you wanting more. The dishes also came out quickly, and it's really nice to try out each dish all at once! I don't usually give reviews for restaurants unless I'm completely blown away. I will definitely keep coming back to Saint Julivert and I'm excited to see what other dishes they will create!
This is our second time coming back to this restaurant. It’s a small cozy spot where I love sitting by the bar to see the action. The food was still amazing. It’s our first time trying the violet hour though. We should have totally done that the first time. $45 PP - we can choose 3 dishes each. It was a tasing menu where dishes were supposed to come in half portion. It’s definitely bigger than half portion, we feel it’s almost like 2/3 of a real portion. The 2 of us with 6 dishes to share - we were full! Great value! Will definitely do this again if we come back between 5-6. One star deducted to the service was because it seems we didn’t have a dedicated server. No one told us about violet hour nor special of the day x 2. We had to keep asking about it. Imagine if we didn’t overhead about the violet hour from the table next to us, we’d have totally missed it. So does the special of the day
The lighting is not photo friendly, so don't judge the dishes by my pics. The food was excellent. Don't skip the anchovies or the iberico steaklette. Cocktails were just as good and they even served me something off menu that turned out to be my favorite drink of the night. Excellent find in the neighborhood.
Incredible meal, no- experience. We got the chefs counter and were greeted by Winnie. She was helpful with an amazing drink recommendation. Then came the scallop tacos which I hear are only available on Friday/Saturday and Sunday if you’re feeling lucky (they run out)! The stars of the show were the seafood sausage and the squid. Can’t wait to go back!
A quote from my boyfriend after our appetizers: "ill never be a mother, but i imagine this feeling is the equivalent of holding your child for the first time" My new fav spot, how this place isn't packed out is actually beyond me because it was easily one of the best meals I've ever had in New York and I've eaten a lottttt. Everything I could hope for from an NYC seafood restaurant comes alive here. Ambience is so nice lighting is perfect doesn't get too noisy but still feels alive, service is excellent, cozy but cool. The food is just outstanding, I literally recommend everything like truly. Each dish was like wow I've never had something like that before and I need it again and again. In fact, I went two days in a row because I just had to get some appetizers again and try some more mains. I'm actually obsessed. I would be here much more often if I lived somewhat closer, but I will with no hesitation make the trek from Manhattan anytime I start craving it. I honestly recommend every single dish that I have posted in this review (it's also every single dish that I've ordered in my times coming here) , but I think for me (i really love raw seafood) I can't go here without ordering the wild shrimp appetizer and the lobster tostada. The lobster tostada is one of the craziest things I've ever had I don't know how they made it taste like that and the textures (im salivating as i write) and they give you so much lobster i was swooning. Not that everything else isn't also perfection because it all really is in their own ways, but as a lobster lover this just tickled me. Love their drink menu, non alcoholic list is pretty limited but what they do offer is tasty, for low ABV they have a lot of options featuring sherry, sweet wines, and amaros etc Dessert was great im forgetting what it is called atm, but alongside the creamy looking one is their italian ice and flavors rotate.
Cute little spot right next to the historic Cobble Hill Park. Good selection of wines and spot plates to share. Sister to the next door La Vara, which is excellent!
First visit and several of the tapas style dishes are exceptional. A few were more mid level so you get this great then mid level back and forth. Wish it was more consistently great. Wish the place had more atmosphere. Wine selection by glass also was a bit weak. For date night it did not fully deliver. Service was great though. So much potential
Kinda of a date night sorta atmosphere but it's nice. Good wine selection, food is good but a bit pricey.
two down, one to go. i think i prefer this to la vara. there is a lot more seafood here which i appreciate because i love a seafood summer. not one bad dish. favorites were the sorullitos and lobster tostada. the tostada had a nice sweetness and the sorullitos had a nice spice. the hamachi was also amazing! very buttery and soft. the squid was great but i wish there was more of it, it was a lot of mushroom (which i love but it’s a lot of $ for mushrooms). the mackerel was good but a pretty small portion and not a standout. the beets were also great, loved the way all the flavors complimented one another. they really excel with sauces and flavor pairings here! the atmosphere is cute but it’s a small restaurant so i recommend snagging a reservation especially on weekends
Dined here with no reservation ok a Thursday night. Staff was great and seated us promptly although it was busy. Dined outside but it was good weather so no issues. Food was great and the drinks were good. Would come again when in the area. Good dinner with some drinks, would def recommend getting the risotto
Super unique meal! We love love loved the food here and really enjoyed everything we ate. One star down because another patron was clearly over-served and was being rowdy and loud, but was still getting drinks and none of the staff asked her to be quiet. When I’m spending this kind of money, I would have liked the overall atmosphere to be a little less like a frat party. But back to the food - we hadn’t heard of many things on the menu but we were feeling adventurous and so glad we did! This is your sign to try things without googling them. Just trust this chef - they know what they are doing. Our favorites were the whipped mackerel and lobster tostadas. Both were so fresh and clean and light (but still filling). Good portion sizes for tapas style. Beautiful plating. Really fun and unique meal!
The food was excellent. Despite the portion being small, every dish we ordered was delicious and well executed. The moment I arrived at the restaurant I was immediately struck with the elegant aesthetic and the ambience. Giving just four stars because they only have high tops at both communal table and counter unless you sit outdoors. Sitting through the whole dinner was not ideal for elders. Understandably they are trying to maximize the space it’s just a bit unfortunate.
We had a cute date night at this place, but it fell short of our expectations. We were excited after reading the glowing reviews, but the service was disappointing. Given the limited seating and the small number of guests, we expected more attention and guidance on the menu. However, the menu was not extensive, so we didn’t receive a comprehensive overview of the dishes. Despite these shortcomings, the food was delicious. Each dish was unique, and the flavors and presentation were perfect. This is a seafood restaurant, so be prepared for a variety of dishes, some of which are served raw. overall, we would rate a four out of five given the shortcomings in the service.
Great ambiance when we entered. Menu looked promising as it is seafood forward and we love seafood. Whipped mackerel and lobster tostada were great. Sole was fine. Cod pot pie was forgettable. Service throughout was not good, never filled our water, never checked in on how the food was. Probably would not come back, perhaps expectations were too high going in.
Boring over priced small plates. Charged me 28$ for two anchovies and some fried corn meal. Tomato water was tasty. 180$ for two people with some drinks. Not worth it.
I usually wouldn't go out of my way to give a negative review but I didn't want folks to experience what I experienced, and honestly it was disappointing as I was looking forward to coming back here to this restaurant. The lobster tostada was really a squash tostada with several thinly sliced sprinkles of lobster. Wouldn't recommend. The clam "special" had 5 tiny clam shells, with one missing clam in a tiny little pot and a thick piece of soaked sourdough bread inside. 4 tiny pieces of clams and a piece of soaked bread - this was $24. As much as I tried to justify in my head, this was a bit overboard, even for a NY standard restaurant, and one that is highly rated. And unfortunately, speaking to someone about it didn't help. The manager wasn't authorized to comp the dish or do anything about it other than to tell me I can email them to see if they can comp a drink next time I come. I really hope the restaurant is a bit more generous with their special moving forward. All that said, service and the whipped mackerel were good.
I’ve been eating in NYC and similar establishments all over Europe for 40 years. I enjoyed the owners other places especially Txikito. I don’t remember the last time I felt like having a slice of pizza after a meal. Hushpuppies had a nice flavor. No complaints there. Amberjack was good, appreciated the tomato water especially. But when sharing with another, jute a couple of small pieces each. One of the smallest “crudo” dishes I’ve seen. A special of polenta fritters with babaganoush and salmon was delectable, but it’s more like a $20+ amuse bouche. Rissotto was flavor packed and smoky. But again, poor value and a dish that felt like an excellent side dish midway. Would have loved to pair this with some fish or something. This is a fisherie with zero cooked fish on the menu other than a very expensive whole fish special. Squid a la Plancha - not as good as I hoped. Overly sweet and one-note until you mix all the sauces. 5 dishes, one drink - $170. We could have easily ordered two more dishes but simply didn’t feel like paying more for such poor value.
We came here for the Valentine’s Day special event. The food was good but the portion is so so small. It was $125 per person pre fixed menu, but they only give 1 small plate to share for 2 of us. I have never had dining experience where it says it’s pre fixed menu for everyone, but only give you one plate to share. See pictures below and you will understand how tiny the portion is. It was overall a very pricy dining experience for very tiny amount of food. Sadly had to eat a second dinner after this
We saw a bug MIXED in our wild shrimp dish. After we kindly told them about the bug, the server offered another dish as a substitute. However, they didn’t even apologize to us till the end. Pretending like nothing happened and I was so pissed. At the end, they even tried to charge us for the substitute dish before I checked the bill and discovered the charge??? Other foods we ordered were okay but we were so upset by the bug and it was supposed to be a great night with friend. Will never come back.
