Opinions de Black Oak Brooklyn
Everything was great. The food was 10/10. I love the steak, eggs and potatoes. The pancakes were very fluffy and good but it does have a hint on lemon in them. But overall everything was great.
Great food, service and drinks! My third time eating at the restaurant and I’ll be back soon!
We stopped in for a late lunch. The pasta dishes was delicious. Service was fast and attentive. The only complaint we have is the music was maybe a tad too loud. Other than that, no complaints at all.
Came here with family on a Saturday night after axe throwing to celebrate my sister's birthday. We had drinks, appetizers (Ricotta el Miele, Meatballs, and Pulpo), Short Rib Tagliatelle pasta, Bronzino, and pizza. Everything was delicious. The service and atmosphere were great (it's pretty spacious as well). I would especially recommend the pasta, it was fresh and the meat was so tender, and the Ricotta el Miele. I didn't try the Bronzino but my brother-in-law was raving about it.
We had a celebration at the Black Oak on Fifth after my daughter's book-signing event at The Ripped Bodice. We were delighted with all aspects of the party... responsiveness, planning, personalized attention, quality of food/drink, atmosphere, friendliness, proximity to the book event... everything was TOP-NOTCH. They even created three signature cocktails for us in keeping with the book's theme! Highly recommend!
Went to a birthday party. The place is lovely! The food is delicious, the service is great. My special shout out to the bartender - cocktails are amazing.
After our production, we wanted a post-show spot that felt just right—soothing, cozy, and classy, but also open past 10 PM on a Saturday night. Finding a place that checks all those boxes isn’t easy, but Black Oak delivered. From the moment we arrived, the setting felt effortless yet intentional, with attention to every detail. The service was warm and seamless, and the menu? Exactly what we needed. The Diavola pizza hit the spot, and the pappardelle ragu was pure comfort. Their spritzes are the real deal—no shortcuts, just the authentic flavors you’d expect. The best part? At 10:30 PM, when most places would be shutting down their kitchens, we were served a full prime dinner next to a glowing fire oven. No settling for late-night fast food—just quality, atmosphere, and a sense of ease. Black Oak was everything we were looking for and more, with pricing that felt just as fair as the experience was exceptional.
Excellent Food and Great Service. Lovely atmosphere. All was uncommonly good. The scallops were fresh and well prepared, although we were not in love with the balsamic and corn. I love they have draft beer, but I'd say they need to have the tap cleaned more often.
On a whim, my wife and I decided to go to Park Slope for some window shopping. Feeling a little hungry we found Black Oak on Fifth. The menu looked good, so in we went. One thing I've learned is that no matter good the food is, if the stagg with whom you interact aren't on top of their game, the overall experience suffers. Black Oak on Fifth excelled on all counts. Greeted by Lydia, we were the first customers of the day (a Sunday). Very comfortable dining space and atmosphere, and Lydia was very charming and upbeat. My wife chose to get and egg white omeletter with mozzarella, spinach, and roasted peppers. She loved it! I got the Eggs Benedict, something I hadn't had in years. The hollandaise sauce was not the traditional pale yellow in color, but rather a much deeper, richer yellow/ orange. I don't know what made went into it, but it was fantastic! The salad greens were "dressed" to perfection in my opinion: just enough of a vinaigrette dressing to taste it, but not overwhelm the leaves. The rosemary potatoes were also perfectly done. Now I know that being first in, and therefore first food out of the kitchen, things might be a little better, but it really was good. Lydia was working with a new server (Faith) and again, they were terrific. Would definitely recommend a visit for brunch, and I would think lunch/ dinner menu offerings would be just as good!
Great place. Great menu. Food was terrific. (Brick oven) pizza was outstanding. Super fresh ingredients. And the waitstaff were exceptional. Highly recommended! 👍👍
I came in for a coffee on a Saturday and this is a really lovely spot to sit outside off of 5th Ave in Brooklyn. Check out Black Oak for a quick bite to eat or a coffee, cold beer, or cocktail. The staff at this location is friendly and attentive and made the whole experience really enjoyable, which I can’t always say is the case when you’re a party of one. I never felt overlooked and I will be back!
Absolutely love this place for many reasons. The ambiance is amazing! The food is delicious. I do have my favorite go-to foods when I go there, but have tried pretty much everything on the menu and everything is delish. To go with the perfect ambiance and yummy food, the staff is very warm and friendly with great service. Cocktails are also very good here.
I went here with my toddler niece and family. The kale salad was super delicious- I esp enjoyed the crunchy crouton bits, the vongole was also wonderfully unique with clams and mussels to add a very flavorful combination for this dish. Overall the food was delicious but I’d ask them to go lighter on the salt for each dish all around.
Eggs in purgatory were amazing Ate at the bar The bartender was perfect!!
Great food. Small simple menu. Welcoming staff
Can't say enough about this place! The food was tremendous. We got two dinners and a pizza. (Amazing pizza with prosciutto and arugula. Yum!) Service was great, very friendly, and a terrific vibe. Can't wait to get back there. ❤️
had a great experience with some friends for brunch!! Joseph was our waiter and was very attentive the whole time - we never saw the bottom of our glasses and everything we needed was done in a flash. Great prices, great fun, great service, what more could you ask for! Thanks Joseph and staff.
Food is always amazing. Tonights dishes - baby lamb loli pop, let's talk about the sause it comes with! I wanted to lick it off the plate. My wife had the octopus. It was super tender. 👌 In our second courses, we had ribeye steak & caccio pepe pasta. 😋 too good!!! Cocktails - Irish lunch super! Had my boring paper plane (my too go drink). Big shout out to the server Jospeh, chill, dude. 😎
The vibe here is more like a sports bar while their menu feels like a nice Italian restaurant. You need to decide for yourself if that is something you like, but I had a very good time here eating dinner. The staff was very friendly and attentive, the food was good. Pricing is very much in line with most other restaurants.
The food was ohhhhh so delicious. The workers efficient, polite and all round really nice and knowledgeable. The ambiance was so relaxing and beautiful, my six year old was in awe of the tree painted on the roof of the bathroom and how beautifully decorated and clean it was. I'll definitely be back to dine
The food is delicious 🤤🤤. Staff is excellent friendly. the pizza is delicious also the ravioli is delicious 😋🤤🤤🤤😋🤤 I love the pizza. it is relaxing to come sit and watch a game soccer baseball football basketball enjoying the game with good friends the staff is also hard working. I love to eat so everything is delicious.
Fantastic dinner at Black Oak. We got a snap pea soap special, the fritto misto, spicy soppressata pizza and the papardelle bolognese. All were delicious!
Good evening NYC ! Let’s get straight into it, My partner & myself popped into this spot in search of happy hour & we found more than that ! Happy hour had a variety selection of drinks for some really reasonable prices, my partner ended up getting the Pomegranate Spritz & I ended up not catching a photo in time before it was gone. I ended up trying yet another espresso martini on my mission to find the best around & this was a solid option, good flavor, a little shredded goodness, & a good foam level. However, the martini was missing the beans 🫘 which caught me off guard just a bit. For food we got the Margherita pizza & Brussel sprouts & this combo did us justice! Good pizza & delicious brussel sprouts !
Black Oak is our favorite restaurant in the neighborhood. Gloria and her team are the best. LOVED the special avacado pizza!! Add it to the regular menu, please!
Walked in on a Thursday evening on a whim after grabbing drinks at another bar nearby. My friend and I were pleasantly surprised at the food and cocktail quality... 10/10. My only critique is we almost skipped this restaurant because the Christmas tree in the front window in February distracted from the other actually beautiful decor. With that being said I'll definitely be back!
Carefully prepared and uncommonly delicious food. We savored every bite! The staff were attentive and courteous and we enjoyed being in the space very much. Thank you!
Outstanding food, service, and ambiance. Had a group of 14 and I think everyone liked their food. The space does get pretty loud when the room is full due to the brick walls. Attaching a picture of the chicken Milanese. It was really good. Probably would be leveled up by some Viennese style lingonberry sauce.
We live close by and I regret that this morning was our first time trying Black Oak — we had an amazing brunch! We were sat immediately without reservations next to some friendly neighbors. The bartender who took our order was also extremely attentive and friendly. I had French toast with some extra eggs & bacon and my boyfriend had Eggs Benedict. Food and drinks were both delicious, made with fresh ingredients and served in generous portions. With add-ons and multiple Bloody Marys, coffees, etc. we were pleasantly surprised that our bill wasn't more than it was (about $50 for each of us). The restaurant was comfortable, bright, and expectedly lively for a weekend brunch. It is so nice to find a real neighborhood spot where the vibe is not pretentious or exorbitantly expensive — with great service and great food. We will be back soon!
Super cute spot! The food was delicious and plated beautifully. Indoor was very nice, evenly tempered and the ambience was very chill and sleek. The outdoor seating was a little limited due to the sidewalk space, but they made it work! All around a very enjoyable experience! The brunch was lovely!
Great place. The cacio pepe pasta with spicy sausage was amazing. Excellent bloody marys.
New restaurant, new pizza brick oven, new equipments, clean bathrooms, motivated staff, delicious meat balls and great smoky Mezcal Pompelmo cocktail. Request your game or just hang out and be a good neighbor. Bring your tiny wallet and good conversation skills. Promise you'd wanna go back.
I really enjoyed the brunch menu, the food was really good!! I had the steak & eggs.
I often pass by there and it appeared as just another restaurant on Fifth Avenue. I tried it yesterday and I was amazed!!! Food, service, and atmosphere were all excellent. I wish they were in Philadelphia and I would be there today again 😊. For now I have to settle for my weekly trips to Brooklyn. Great place!
Ordered delivery from their website, really easy to use, food was great. Steak was great, traveled well. Sautéed spinach also well done. Will order again!
Love the pasta with sausage. The burger is a hit. My husband likes the short rib ragu. The people who work here are great. There was a server who recommended me the special the mushroom ragu on pasta night and it was ok. I should have stuck with my favorites.
The food is amazing. Drinks are always spot on. Even at a crowded time, it’s not too loud. I love the decor. Would definitely recommend.
Stopped into Black Oak on 5th with a colleague while in Brooklyn on a business trip, and wow, what a great call. We grabbed seats at the bar and had Gloria, the bartender extraordinaire taking care of us. She was outstanding from start to finish: personal, friendly, and genuinely fun to talk to. She had great recommendations for drinks and even steered us toward an incredible dessert. The whole vibe was welcoming and relaxed. If you’re in the area and not sure where to go, go to Black Oak and say hi to Gloria. You’ll walk out impressed and already planning your next visit.
Delivery outstanding. The restaurant thought they’d made a mistake with the order, and subsequently delivered another pizza and a bonus dessert! Not necessary. Was fine the first time around. But how responsive and courteous. The food was delicious. We will be back often!
Gloria took the best care of us at the bar. I can't stop thinking about how perfect our experience was here. I loved that not ALL TV's were on sports; I was a big fan of the woodworking channel that was on while we ate. I had the mac (with buffalo and bacon) which I will have dreams about in the future. This was the BEST mac and cheese I've ever had. It changed me, truly. My husband had the steak and eggs, which was equally delicious (he says); I was too deep in my mac and cheese to even think about his food. This place was incredible, so much so that we plan on returning tomorrow before going back to TN. Get here now, and if Gloria is at the bar, PLEASE sit with her as she's amazing, sweet, and super knowledgeable about the area's goings on.
A Flavorful Night Out at Black Oak on Fifth Nestled in the heart of Park Slope, Brooklyn, Black Oak on Fifth is a gem that blends rustic charm with bold flavors. My wife and I recently dined at this cozy American-Italian restaurant and bar located at 200 5th Ave, and the experience was nothing short of delightful. Starters That Set the Tone We kicked off our evening with the Grilled Octopus, served over a seasonal purée, arugula, and finished with a balsamic glaze. The octopus was tender and smoky, perfectly complemented by the tangy glaze and fresh greens—a dish that truly awakened the palate. Pasta Perfection Next came the Short-Rib Tagliatelle, a comforting bowl of handmade pasta tossed in rich short rib ragu, sprinkled with Parmigiano Reggiano and parsley. The portion was just right, and every bite was packed with deep, savory flavor. Seafood with a Kick For our main course, we shared the Frutti di Mare, featuring pan-seared salmon nestled on sautéed spinach, all bathed in a scampi sauce with capers, lemon, and chili flakes. If you enjoy a subtle heat in your seafood, this dish is a must-try—it’s vibrant, zesty, and satisfying. Pizza That Steals the Show From their all-day pizza menu, we ordered the Margherita Pizza, and wow—fresh basil, San Marzano tomatoes, and buffalo mozzarella came together in a wood-fired masterpiece. It was crisp, flavorful, and utterly addictive. Sips to Savor The drinks were equally impressive—fresh, earthy, and crafted with care. Whether you're into cocktails or mocktails, the bar delivers a refreshing complement to the meal. Ambiance & Atmosphere We chose to sit outside, soaking in the evening breeze and the vibrant energy of the neighborhood. The service was warm and attentive, and the prices were more than reasonable for the quality and creativity of the food. Final Thoughts: Black Oak on Fifth is more than just a dinner spot—it’s a place to unwind, indulge, and connect. With its welcoming vibe, inventive menu, and dedication to flavor, it’s no wonder we’re already planning our next visit. If you’re in Brooklyn and craving a memorable meal, this place deserves a spot on your list.
Back in Park Slope again and this establishment has such a welcoming environment with the best food. Dinner 3 out of 4 nights while in town, thanks Gloria and the Black Oak Staff! I have been visiting clients in the area and have eaten here 3 times now. The food is great, Zack has been my server 2 out of the 3 visits and also great. But special thanks to Gloria for recognizing my visits and making me feel welcomed to this establishment.
I was taken here for my birthday dinner and had an absolutely wonderful experience. The staff was amazingly helpful, friendly, and kind and made some great drink and appetizer recommendations. The food was spectacular and I especially recommend the lobster ravioli, meatball appetizer, and buffalo chicken sandwich. The cocktails were also really great. Overall I couldn’t recommend the Black Oak on Fifth more for anyone looking to have a lovely dinner.
Black Oak on Fifth is one of those neighborhood spots we kept meaning to try and somehow never did, despite living nearby for a while. After finally stopping in, it turned out to be a great place to grab some solid comfort food in a relaxed setting. The vibe is simple and cozy, nothing flashy, just an easygoing atmosphere that makes it perfect for a casual dinner. Prices are also very reasonable for the area. Food wise, the margherita pizza was the standout. It hit that perfect balance of fresh, cheesy, and satisfying without trying to overcomplicate things. The meatballs were another highlight and definitely worth ordering to share as an appetizer. They were flavorful, tender, and felt very homemade in the best way. Overall, this is not a place trying to be trendy or over the top, and that is exactly its charm. It is a warm, dependable spot that is easy to recommend if you are in the neighborhood and want something comforting and satisfying. 🙂🍕
The restaurant is still on a soft opening. Their sauces are fabulous (we both had pastas with different sauces) and fairly priced. Our server was earnest, but obviously new (never serve one dish when the other has to wait - or at least try to explain the problem) The menu doesn't play to the strength of their home cooking - hard to tell what the restaurant is about - Bar food? Italian cooking? - it needs to be tightened up. Same with the interior, which could have a few less tv screens in the dining area. (These suggestions were made directly to the manager who listened attentively - she recommended that we also try the pizzas) This restaurant is worth a visit and could be a star attraction on 5th - just needs some work around the edges. Again, the sauces are really, really good - I'd urge neighbors to help them settle in
I live in the neighborhood and I always try new restaurants when they open and I'm often disappointed, but not this time. The pasta is fresh/handmade and so much better than regular industrial pasta. The pizza was great too but PLEASE, DO NOT USE CORN FLOUR under it, that's so not authentic and makes the dough very gritty! We ordered Bucatini Amatriciana but we were served spaghetti. Cacio e Pepe was little disappointing, it should only be the starchy pasta cooking water, pecorino cheese and tons of cracked pepper (no parmigiano, butter and oil). The manager did not come to the table at all, to greet us. You would think that she would have, considering it's a new restaurant and it wasn't even that busy. The waiters were super nice and polite, they need some extra training though. All together, a pleasant experience and I will definitely go back.
Great experience! The food and service were great. We were a party of 6 which is worth mentioning as that sometimes is an issue. Calamari and meatball appetizers did not disappoint. I personally had the French toast which I enjoyed. No complaints from the table which made me happy as this was our first time at the restaurant.
We enjoyed this place very much, nice looking, very good food. Just as much an Italian place as any in the area with especially good pizza. Started with the mixto with calamare, zucchini and shrimp. Lightly floured, fried and tasty. Also had the burrata which was fresh and sensational. We had a pizza with prosciutto and arrugala. The crust was crispy, light and with a nice brick oven taste. Service was friendly but a little slow and there was a small issue with our order otherwise would have received 5 stars. Definitely will be back.
Food is fantastic. The pizzas always hit the spot. The outside area is lovely even on rainy days. Really great and attentive service whenever we have been there. They show sports as well if that’s of interest!
Went for the eggs purgatory, was not a fan, it is essentially shakshuka, but was very tomato sauce-y and there was no flavor to it, and definitely no Parmigiano Reggiano on top. We also got the burger which was good and the French toast which were also good, the seasonal fruit was strawberry’s and mangos. For us personally the highlight were their drinks, we got the Irish lunch which was delicious, and the Illyia (with the flowers in the photo) also very good
Came here for dinner one night. Everything was fine. Nothing extraordinary, but a regular restaurant. Lentil soup was soup. Caesar salad, eh it was okay. Margherita pizza was very thin towards the middle and extremely floppy with cheese sliding off. It did the job, but wouldn’t crave anything again.
Nice place with great decor, bar, and dedicated pizza oven. Service was great, couldn't ask for more. We came for brunch, and the prosciutto arugula pizza was pretty good. It's a white pizza by the way. We had an impression of a modern American tavern kind of feel, but majority of the menu is Italian cuisine. Even the sandwich named Black Oak Grilled Cheese, where the name seems to lean into the American aesthetic, is really an Italian sub. The name was misleading since nothing resembled a traditional grilled cheese. The entire sandwich was a few degrees from being considered cold, the bread wasn't seared or pressed nor was anything noticeably buttered, and the cheese was just a thin layer of mozzarella contained behind the edges of the bread. I've had sandwiches in Italy, and this one was pretty basic, for a much higher pricepoint. Personal preference, but two pieces of texas toast, seared with butter and edges just seconds from blackened, with ham or bacon, and cheddar cheese oozing off the sides, would 100% fit the aesthetic of the restaurant. Just saying. I wanna love this place, as they did an amazing job building their outdoor seating area, but right now I'll likely only come back for pizza.
Loved the salmon carpaccio. Looking forward to trying more of the menu. Service was a little laggy but very polite.
Quite a nice restaurant, got a reservation for 6:30pm, but I arrived early and they sat us early! The waiter Zack was quite nice, gave some good recommendation of wine. The service was a bit slow, but understandable as it was getting busy. The food was alright. I did really enjoy the ravioli and the meatballs. The vibe was quite nice too. I’m hoping to come next time during brunch.
Good chouce for local brunch. Attentive service and solid good ambiance, though the metallic chairs are too cold to sit on even in warmer weather (especially when wearing a skirt). The avocado toast was good and big (a pear was an unusual addition) and an omlette came super filled with mozzarella (i chose it among other 3 ingredients). However, my cappuccino was lukewarm, with very fluffy foam though.
I was visiting family in NY for my birthday and we decided to try this place on my last night. I am so happy we did! The service was great and the food was delicious. Their pasta is cooked to perfection and seasoned well. I really enjoyed this place and will definitely be back on my next visit.
Enjoyed a nice dinner after the gym here! Shared a pizza and the rigatoni pasta. The pizza was quite good with the right amount of spice and sweetness from the honey you can pour on top. The mocktails were ok heavily hibiscus flavor couldn’t really taste the other essentials in the drink
I stumbled upon this restaurant while on my way to a vintage store. It's a large space, diverse crowd and plenty of seating. The service was good. Drinks were great. Pasta dish and Brussels on point. I also had thr crab cakes which were tasty. Good place for family or easy going date
We came here for brunch on a Saturday and it wasn't too busy. The brunch pizza was good although the egg whites were a little under. The eggs in purgatory were perfectly cooked and the sauce was delicious. The cacio e pepe was sooo good! The food came out quickly but overall the service could be a bit more attentive. The ambiance is nice, it has a feel of a modern upscale bar with a dining area.
An unfortunately mid experience. Our server was great and attentive, refilling our water and checking in regularly. The food, however, did not meet expectations. We ordered the Brussels sprouts and they were soggy even though they looked crisped. The cacio e pepe was watered down and mostly tasted of pepper lacking any cream. Our most memorable part of the outing were the drinks—a dry martini with extra olives and an Aperol spritz—which were on par with other restaurants in the area. There are better Italian options.
Amazing atmosphere and service but food was…. Meh. Seasoning was lacking all over and felt as though I have had much better food at other local establishments. would go back to try brunch and bar bites!
We had brunch reservations today to celebrate my wife’s first Mother’s Day. It was my wife, my mother-in-law, our newborn baby, and myself. We got there a little early as our reservation was for 11:45am. They seated us early no issues. Our food was delicious, drinks were as well. I had three issues with our brunch today. First off our server, although came by and asked how our food was, never asked if we wanted another round of alcoholic beverages. We also had ordered 2 coffees and a latte, not once did anyone come to top off our coffee although it’s called “bottomless” on the menu. Third, which wasn’t a major issue because it happens, was I ordered crispy bacon and it came out fatty and not crispy. We loved the atmosphere and although it was busy, we never felt rushed. Which is why it was weird no one asked if we wanted more drinks or more coffee. I’m in the service industry over 20 years so issues like these are important if you want repeat business. The food was really good but we also pay for the service too.
This is for review of this past Sunday brunch. Promising but fails to deliver in every way. Very loud inside with brick walls and hardwood floors and metal ceiling so the sound reverberates. Service slow from the get-go. Waitress never returned after taking our order, even though we wanted more drinks and coffee. My eggs Benedict and potatoes were cool. Why didn’t I complain? There is no one to tell. Mac & cheese was very oily. The chicken sandwich was good, but fries soggy and not hot.
The hostess was very nice, and the waiter was pleasant as well. However, I did feel rushed to leave. About 15 minutes after I finished my food, the server brought the check and asked if I was ready to go — twice. I handed her my card and mentioned that I planned to stay a bit longer (maybe 15 more minutes), and she gave me a look before saying she had to check because they had reservations, even though I had only been there for about 30 minutes total (15 minutes waiting, 15 minutes eating). I wasn’t planning on staying long, but it felt like I was being pushed out by 1:45 after arriving at 1:15. She later came back to say I could stay because the next reservation wasn’t for another hour. At that point, I obviously didn’t feel welcome or comfortable staying. I was dining alone — and this usually doesn’t happen when you’re with a group — plus there were empty tables, so the rush felt unnecessary. The food was okay. I ordered the Eggs in Purgatory — not bad, but not particularly memorable. The space itself is very nice, though. Not sure if I would come back.
I came here for brunch with high hopes and a growling stomach. The service was excellent—attentive, warm, and genuinely kind—but the food felt like a missed opportunity wrapped in marinara. I ordered the Eggs in Purgatory, which looked like it wanted to be shakshuka’s Italian cousin but forgot to bring the flavor profile. The sauce lacked depth, the egg was fine but unremarkable, and the whole dish landed somewhere between “comfort food” and “well, that’s… food.” The side of crostini was serviceable, though it didn’t really help elevate the dish. Now, credit where it’s due: the Bloody Marys were killer—spicy, bold, and honestly the highlight of the meal. If I come back, it’ll be for the drinks and the friendly staff, not the food. I wanted to love this place. I gave it a real shot. But when the best part of brunch is your drink and your waiter, that’s telling. If you’re in the neighborhood and thirsty? Sure. Hungry? Maybe look elsewhere.
A relaxing and homely atmosphere! We ordered the meatballs to start - that was our favorite part of the meal! For mains we shared a Diavola Pizza and the king prawn pesto salad (specials for the day)! The pizza could have been cooked for a few more minutes but the taste was fantastic! The salad was bursting with flavor, we would have loved a few more prawns as there were only 2. For desert we went for the vanilla gelato, one word, stunning! Drinks wise, we shared a bottle of the Argentinian red and our desert drinks were an espresso martini and a pint of peroni! Over all we would give 7.5/10! Great experience
I was excited to try this new restaurant in the neighborhood. I love Italian food, but the place doesn’t really give Italian food vibes. The park slope passion drink was really good. Calamari was okay, could’ve been more crispy. Linguine seafood was alright, not something I would come back for. My brother ordered pasta with meatballs. But only got the pasta at the table. The meatballs never made it to the table. He decided to leave the pasta since it was cold and he couldn’t enjoy it. Pasta overall is too much of a tomato taste for our liking. So we told the restaurant to take back the pasta and forget about the meatballs. When the bill came to the table the restaurant still tried to charge for the pasta that we told them to take back. Overall for 1 order of linguine seafood pasta, 1 order of rib tagliatelle (tasted like meat from a can), 3 park slope passion drinks, 1 order of calamari, and 1 Coca Coca came out to $122. By the way the portions were so small! I am still hungry after I left and spent over $100. So disappointed, I will not be coming back.
Daniel was nice gentleman but the bar tender was in outerspace. Pizza was fresh soft and crispy no flop I’ll give you that. For an authentic Italian spot the sauce not to tasty with one basil on a Margherita pie. The Orecchiette no flavor at all with pieces of broccoli stems no rabe the dish had this reheated microwave flavor. The mozzarella sticks although it didn’t say homemade I assumed it was since the theme was authentic Italian but they were frozen reheated sticks. The papardelle Bolognese was ok and that’s because I was hungry but again nothing authentic about it the ragú meat sauce was chewy gamey not what I expected. Look if your going to call your self authentic Italian food place or whatever don’t have Mac and cheese on the menu and the name black oak it’s confusing lol this place I’m sorry gets 2 stars if I were you just drive a bit towards bay ridge or cross over to Staten Island for authentic and a better tasty Italian menu.
I ate here twice. First time the appetizer which looked like previously frozen calamari was cooked well and tasted ok. The berry mojito had what looked like frozen strawberries just thrown into it. The second time I order the same appetizer which was overcooked. The Rose wine was flavorless and tasted cheap. Pay attention to the bad reviews they are not fake.
Extremely over priced considering terrible food. I ordered a cappuccino which was extremely milky. Could barely taste the coffee, returned it for regular coffee which was very acidic. Ordered salmon Benedict, the salmon was so salty and the hollandaise sauce was downright awful. The salad on the plate was overdressed and just way too Lemony - this so called Benedict was $23… pre tax! The French toast was so dry and unflavorful. Just so disappointing! Never going back.
The first appetizer we got was good but it took over an hour to get food. And after more than an hour we just couldn’t wait any longer and decided to eat elsewhere. Waiter said the food would arrive in 5 minutes a good 10 minutes after originally telling us the food would be here in 5 minutes. When asking another person about an update on food he straight up said “i don’t know”. Many tables who were here way after we were got food first which makes absolutely no sense. Was super excited for this place and am very disappointed.
They threatened to call the cops on me because I asked them for a charger. Even after buying a drink, they couldn’t help me out when my phone was on 1%. I don’t recommend. And their response below is a lie. I told the bartender I would pay them to use a charger. Not that I needed money to get home. The fact that they would lie about that is insulting. I’ve attached my receipt below- why would I buy something from them and ask them for money at the same time? They are lying about everything. I moved seats once. Nor was I falling asleep at the bar. I was hyper focused on trying to get home. I didn’t communicate because they threatened to call the cops and said I was scaring the staff. As a black man, I found that to be racially charged and insulting. Even in their response, they’re showing bias as they perceived me to be someone who couldn’t afford to get home b/c the color of my skin. At the very least, the bartender misheard me but given the rest of the way they handled this situation, I’m not giving that benefit of the doubt. It’s disgusting. I didn’t move when they asked me to because I knew I did nothing wrong - especially if the cops came. I didn’t communicate with them because I would not respond to their intimidation / rude approach. If I was asked kindly and approached with respect, I would have gladly moved. When I did get the charger, I sat there and did not bother anyone. I left as soon as my phone hit 2% because of the vibes of this place. I was the one who was uncomfortable b/c the macroagressions, and their response further proves it. The gaslighting and bias is alarming. I have a receipt of buying a drink at 4 pm, so they’re just lying to protect their reputation. Again, I don’t recommend this place AT ALL. Edit: please stop with the edits to your responses. It’s just digging yourself a bigger hole. You can’t say I was asking your bartender for money if I pull up with a bag of food (which btw I did, and it cost $100+). And you can’t call the cops on me and pray that I make it home safe in the same sentence.
You won’t convince me any of the food is made from scratch. The Caesar salad is incredibly bland. Just romaine with tasteless, store bought dressing. Extremely disappointed I spent money here and won’t return.
