Opinions de Country House Diner Brooklyn
Food is good, hot off the grill. Available seating inside and a good view of the street.
I had the best breakfast in brooklyn for a great price. Amazing burgers too I definitely recommend you eat here especially if you are in the area.
Awesome place. I had the double cheese with an egg on top. Best thing I ate while visiting NY. And then owner is awesome too! I'll definitely be back
For all you newbies in the neighborhood giving this establishment poor ratings, understand that the Country House has been a fixture in this neighborhood serving black and brown people waaaaayyyy before you all decided that Brooklyn might be a nice place to live. So those "anyones" they allow in, are the people who has patronized the shop through the years here in BK. In other words, put some "respeck" on it!
Cozy quiet atmosphere respectable and friendly customer service great burgers enormous amounts of good quality food at reasonable prices if you're ever in the area stop on by you shouldn't be disappointed.
I've enjoyed the experience. Polite and food is good. I've had lunch on several occasions. Salmon burgers and beef burgers.
Love eating breakfast the same place that the greatest rapper of all time did. Food is great.
Very simple and limited menu; no pork served here, only beef, chicken and turkey. But still the food is great, made with care!
I've been a customer since the early '80s. Love the food and service. Always my first stop when I visit my hometown Brooklyn.
Went for the first time today, service was great, and courteous, I had the Cajun chicken Caesar salad and it was so delicious!!! Will definitely return!
Delicious no-frills diner with a relaxed atmosphere, reasonable prices, and a halal kitchen. Highly recommend
Service was great and quick, didn't eat there had takeout, when I reached my destination and got relaxed the food was well worth the wait, meaning traveling a distance and smelling the aroma almost wanted to open the bag on the train and dive right in.😋👍👍👍👏
This place was amazing! Food came quick and was very good. I recommend!
Notorious B.I.G. Grew up around the corner and used to eat here all the time. This is the closest diner to my house and I love it!
One of Clinton Hills finest dinners, been around ever since I was a kid. Definitely recommend this place for a good meal..
This place is historic. It’s Biggie’s favorite place as I heard. And favorite meal was : A T-bone steak, cheese eggs, and Welch's grape.
Cheap delious breakfast. Fast service. Grits are good and creamy. Turkey sausage are amazing.
Went here with some friends to get a late meal before heading to a show nearby. Food was amazing and came out of the kitchen quickly. We all got breakfast for dinner and everything was absolutely delicious. Friendly service too. Would highly recommend!
Honestly it was amazing... the food was good, well speaking for what I had it would be irresponsible to say the whole menu is good but the service was great the food came quick not to mention its a 24 hour spot which totally came in clutch. Additionally the price point wasn't bad yea definitely going back.
Great food. Good selection. Cooked exactly how asked. Service was fantastic. Price point was as expected. Overall, will absolutely visit here again.
Stopped in after touring Clinton Hill and Bed-Stuy in search of Biggie landmarks. Came in looking for some great food since this was a frequent stop of Biggie's. Food was excellent for what we expected from a traditional diner. The owner was taking orders, cooking the food, and bringing it out. Talk about hustle! Very friendly guy and on his game. Don't listen to the bad reviews, try this place out. Take a seat by the window if you can, and watch life go by for a little while.
I go here once a week. Great food. Super consistent. Friendly service. Good prices. They also make really good coffee. Update... Still awesome.
I ordered a pastrami sandwich. It was delivered in about 5 minutes, and it was the best pastrami sandwich I've ever had. And it wasn't any more expensive than you'd pay for lunch downtown. Two thumbs up!
People writing negative reviews, including those who get steak from a diner and complain, are probably terrible humans. I recently moved to the neighborhood and this place has no frills, rustic grub. Omelets are killer and the coffee is strong. They also have WiFi!
Amazing place. Food here is delicious, and the prices are surprisingly cheap for the neighborhood. Staff is amazing, so honest. Will come back here again. Love the food so much.
After having only one bite...I was sold! Azif I believe that his name knows how to cook! I had the salmon and grits...ooo weee! Amazing...I'll definitely be back for brunch👍🏾
I'm inclined to agree with the locals about the Country House Diner - it's not the fanciest diner in Brooklyn but it serves up good home food at prices that are starting to disappear from the New York foodscape. And frankly, sometimes it's nice to have a meal that hasn't been hipsterfied beyond recognition - my corn beef hash was large and delicious with just the smallest kick of chilli to get me going first thing in the morning. If I were a resident New Yorker, I'd make it one of my regular haunts
Service was good the food was good and the food came fast and hot.
I LOVED THIS PLACE!!! Super affordable and really yummy food. I had a classic tuna melt and my friends got the feta and spinach omlette and waffle, eggs, and fries and everything was great. Service was fantastic, I only wish they had been playing music! Seriously great, reliable place!
Still my favorite diner to visit when I come home!!!
We went there cuz it's one of the diners biggie "Notorious BIG" used to eat in. And were so glad that now the diner is Halal! We had eggs with potatoes which was really good. Loved the beef sausage. The kids loved their hot chocolates. And yea their pancakes is good. Deff worth visiting if you're looking for Halal options for breakfast.
Great comfort food! Came in in a cold morning and food was made fresh. Excellent people watching from big sunny windows. Owner is kind, service is great. Perfect neighborhood vibe.
Love this place. Food is always tasty, and the service is incredibly fast. My go-to for breakfast!
Came in to get something to eat. Owner was friendly, food was made to order and overall it was a great time!
INSANE!!!!! Food is just amazing, staff are lovely, you feel like you are home. They become your friends. Taste like food made by MOM. OMGSH!!!!!
Great place to grab a nice and affordable home- cooked style meal. Everytime, food is made with care and the service is quick. Definitely recommend.
I eat there after church for brunch, the food is tasty and plentiful.
The gentleman who waited on my Mom and I was very polite and accommodating. Very friendly and comfortable in every way. We ordered breakfast that was absolutely delicious and very filling to say the least. What I really enjoyed though was the relaxed atmosphere in no way being rushed like alot of other places do. They put the check in front of u while ur in the middle of eating but not at Country House. After breakfast my Mom and I enjoyed a couple of cups of very good coffee ☕️ and even better conversation. Country House Diner I would say is one of those neighborhood gems 💎 u have to go to and give it a try, I'm absolutely sure ull feel pretty much like I do about it, happy you went and looking forward to going back next time I'm over that way. Stay Blessed and safe 🙏
ABSOLUTELY no idea where all these hateful reviews are coming from. This place was EGGSceptional :) The waiter was uniquely friendly and accommodating , I heard a fellow patron order something off menu and he was like, yeah I could probably fix that up for you. Food was very classic diner fare. My BLT was nice and yummy, and my employed girlfriend’s home fries had some onion in them which was fun. Reallly good. In summation, other reviewers need to sort out their lives before coming at my new favourite diner.
Came here not knowing what to expect. The server was kind and welcoming, sat us down and got us drinks. The coffee was honestly really great I think I said it out loud 4-5 times lol. We ordered our food, I got 2 eggs over medium with bacon, toast and homefries. My husband got a spinach and feta omelette. While we were waiting for our food I decided to pull up the reviews on this place, and I’m not going to lie they made me pretty nervous. Very nervous actually. The food came and I was surprised to find that everything was absolutely delicious. No complaints here, everything tasted great and was prepared appropriately. I had to come on here and leave a good review because I feared only negative reviews would deter someone from trying this place.
The food is halal and fits those dietary considerations. They have a bidet in the bathroom, if you are savvy about that. I ordered a plate ( meaning about 6/7) egg cheese and bacon on wheat toast sandwiches...that's just a hint of how good they are. The main host Shahid was very attentive to my needs, and the cook Hakim was phenomenal. The food was delivered promptly, hot and tasty. I will make it my intention ...to get to this eatery at least once a week and recommend it to as many people as possible.
Cute little dinner. The owner is very attentive. I always get a Caesar wrap with fries too good
The food was tasty and the hospitality was awesome. All this at an amazing price. I will be back!!
Eggs, toast and turkey sausage. You can't go wrong with basic breakfast. Service was quick and polite. No pork products are served.
pretty good spot for comfort food. We came on a Sunday and we got seated immediately. The waitress was the only person behind the counter but she did a good job of managing all the people in the restaurant. The space is a little dark on the inside but they have three tables by the windows. Mostly tables with seating for 4, but there were a couple with seating for 2. I don't really recommend using the bathrooms. I got the salmon with onions and peppers with a scrambled egg and home fries. I don't recommend the home fries (next time I'll try the grits), i asked for them extra crispy and they were just boiled potatoes fried on one side. The salmon was all cut up and mashed with the onions and peppers, with some browning- still delicious- and I added hot sauce to them for a bit more flavor. The scrambled eggs were well made and I was able to get wheat toast- try it with the pancake syrup it's delicious. M got the beef bacon which is pretty tasty, I ate it with the home fries to give them some flavor. The coffee was actually really good! it was pretty simple diner coffee but didn't need cream or sugar and was smooth. I recommend this - and a number of people were getting iced coffee too which I guess is something to try here. all in all, a pretty solid spot and it seemed like a good number of people from the neighborhood come here. I would say the food is pretty cost effective too, you could get the eggs and some meat and toast for about $5 - so a nice big breakfast wouldn't break the bank.
So.... After an evening at a near local watering hole I was jonesing for pancakes. My friend found Country House a six minute walk from where we were. It was easy to find, there was only one person working but he did a good job at handling the customers. It was after midnight so it wasn't crowded at all. Another couple was already dining in and a few people came for take out orders. The food was good and came out fairly quickly. I could imagine it runs better during the day with more staff. Would definitely return for some late night breakfast.
I went for breakfast after a party. There was ample seating. No wait and food came out in a timely manner. They could do with more servers but the server/chef was friendly and moved pretty quickly with the orders. My toast was burnt but I was given more on request, Im not sure if I paid extra for that. Good portion size.
Good food and service. I had wings and fries and my mom had 2 eggs scrambled with cheddar and toast. We both enjoyed our food.
Been there for ages but recently for 2 pancakes 2 scrambled eggs and home fries i was charged 28$. For 28$ I can get better breakfast from IHop or Dennys. The homefries were like mush my eggs were barely warm and the pancakes were 👎. The food has always been subpar they just benifit from the neigborhood being gentrified.
Food was seasoned well. I got the scrambled eggs w/cheddar cheese, corned beef hash, with home fries. My only true concern was that it was 10:30 a.m, and when I got my check there was a Gratuity charge on my bill.
Great grits once you season them to your liking. If they used actual butter I'd give another star. Solid place to get a basic quick breakfast and definitely filling. Staff is also friendly.
I've ordered here for take out 3 different times . The 1st 2 times, had Fish & Grits after hearing my co-worker's review " That food was the bomb". She was right! I then decided to try the Salmon & Grits because it has to be amazing.... well not so much. I was so disappointed that it was canned salmon. For almost $30.... you know how many cans of Salmon I could have bought.
Food was ok. There was one man working there. The price was OUTRAGEOUS! 2 platers , one with pancakes and bacon the other was an omelet and toast! For $33.00! The menu had a totally different price. Then he rushed us out before we finished our coffee and tea. Place changed, used to be really good. NEVER AGAIN!
Good Cajun Chicken Salad. Chicken had a great seasonings. My hubby was In a mood for pancakes but it was too heavy and was not good. I dont think I've seen my hubby not finishing his pancakes ever. He actually only had few bites. Too bad. But everything else was good enough. Very nice staff.
Stopped through here on a little local Biggie tour I put together since this was his usual spot back in the day. Got the Biggie special aka what he used to order but you’ll find it listed as the steak and eggs on the menu along with his usual grape soda. The food was ok, what you would expect from a diner and a little on the pricey side but again, I was there more for nostalgia sake. The diner itself hasn’t changed much so it still has that old classic diner feel. The sever we had was also really friendly and had some great stories to share from back in the day. Would suggest a visit if you’re a true Biggie fan.
Food was ridiculously overpriced for this place. Almost $25 for two eggs, potatoes and canned salmon. No wonder its always empty in there. This place rarely has more than one costumer inside.
We asked for a spinach, mushroom and feta omelette-extra soft and an order of French toast. Usually the lack of pillowy goo on the eggs order is enough to groan about but man! The spinach tasted like boiled grass and the mushrooms straight from the can and washed. Upsetting. French toast was not a delight either. I love breakfast but this was sad. I even had to put sugar in my coffee to get it down. Waitress was great though.
This place is soup. He has a service charge for eating in after a certain hour because he says “they” don’t have mandates for Covid and he doesn’t want to have to take IDs and vaccination app proof at the door because he’s running a glorified bodega diner. Fries and burger were great though.
they charge the 15% gratuity even on TAKEOUT. Food was a notch below mediocre. The only reason i stopped by was bc its 24hrs and i had no other option. I would have gotten a better meal at a bodega
Biggest note - I’m glad I clarified the price of the “market price” breakfast steak, which was 49.95, and with the server’s accent, I almost mistook for 14.95. The gruff guy behind the counter said that it was because it was a nice cut of steak, not breakfast style. So why put it on the breakfast menu at a diner? People are NOT coming to this spot for a fifty dollar steak. The rest of the menu was a little diner-standard, but limited. Everything else was only mildly overpriced. Food was meh. Atmosphere was incredibly bland. Probably won’t come back, which is a shame, because I live nearby.
This place was very average, nothing special about it, the service was ok not bad, and the food was just ok, i had pancakes and bacon, my friend had a grill cheese sandwich, good enough to go one time but no reason to go back, this place needs something to make them standout and rise above being average, maybe a new look or new recipes especially because there is so much food competition in brooklyn
Triple check your bill. He tried to overcharge us and another table as well. When we called him over he came straight up with a new bill, basically knowing that we were on to him. Then tried to tell us something about service charge and Covid even though he didn’t even check our vaccination nor was he wearing a mask the entire time. Don’t go here.
This used to be my spot…on a cheat day… I should’ve stayed faithful…chicken cheesesteak tasted like the cheapest corner store sandwich you could get…they stay empty and I see why now…and btw sandwich was lighter than a feather
The diner is run down. It could definitely use some renovating. The food was mediocre. This restaurant is a staple in the community and has seen better days.
Some dishes are overpriced, like the steak & eggs, and average tasting. AND they add the tip to your bill automatically, even for a party of 2. Who does that?
They need to fix their hours on here, it says 24 hours yet when you show up at 11 they kick you out telling you they are “closing” can’t comment on the food since they never severed us but looking at the comments I’d say I dodged a bullet.
I been eating here since I was a kid and I always loved they food the only place I get a PhillyChzSteak from and it was nasty not only that I used to pay 6$ bout a month ago now it's 9.50 with no fries it was dry after he ask me 6times what I wanted on it smh they lost me as a customer
The prices went way up but the quality didn’t. Used to love this spot but now it’s hard to justify. Rest In peace sweet diner prince
Food was great until my husband tapped me and I turned around to see a big roach crawling on the counter behind us totally turned me off we just paid for the food and left immediately very unsanitary and disgusting will never eat at this establishment ever again
The “WORST” place to ever exist. I’m definitely never gonna go back there.
Gave us tge wrong order and didnt listen to our allergy warning. Dont go
They totally just scammed us and overcharged $5+ and claimed it was just tax.. came and got fries and hot chocolate (hot chocolate was just standard store bought stuff) and the fries were really greasy and tasted like old oil. Bathroom was gross. Would not go again
The place is clean and the lone server/cashier was friendly enough. The food was so-so standard diner fare. When you ask for the check the server just shouts the amount at you from across the room for all to hear. I was shocked that a burger & fries and iced tea was $23. I asked for an actual itemized receipt and that’s when you see they add an 15% “in house dining service charge” without telling you in advance — note, that’s NOT the gratuity like some places add (the tip is still extra). That’s just an extra 15% they charge you for doing what restaurants are in existence for in the first place. Shady as hell. Avoid!
Do Not Eat Here Unless You WIsh to Be Ripped Off! The waitress refused to provide me with a menu because she gave them out to a nearby table party of 12. I’ve eaten at this restaurant several times but not recently. I anticipated price increase but my bill was $18+ for 2 eggs, grits, toast, turkey bacon and 2 coffees. She charges $2.50 for extra and $5 for turkey bacon. The base price for the first three items is $7.95. Without access to a menu and I know local diners prices in the area such as Mikes Coffee Shop. live in the neighborhood. Beware!
Wouldn't recommend it at all. Besides the bad oder I could see the cook instead of pour the bowl of friech fries into the grease he used his hands no gloves. They were under cooked my scrambled eggs were cold and he forgot my 2 diet Pepsi sodas. I had to go back to get it. Not going back EVER
I had a very poor experience, I highly wouldn’t recommend, the waiter told me I have to stand at the counter order my food and I would have to come to the counter to pick it up .,, although I requested dine in. While others are seated . And getting their order taken by him . I was treated so poorly that I had to leave didn’t order anything . Customer service is non existent. An honestly I can understand why they’re always empty now . Don’t waste your time .
Look, I know I ordered steak and eggs for a diner and I wasn't expecting a Michelin star standard but also I didn't expect $30 for a cheap cut of meat with 3/4 fat on it. The only ONE star is for the waitress who was so nice and pleasant. Horrible.
Very disappointed , literally everything from the False advertising, to food looking nothing like they pictures they Have up , and promoting prices that doesn’t even compare to what they showering or selling. Just very disappointing with this out come especially on my birthday 10/14 /23 couldn’t enjoy my breakfast how I wanted to , supervisor and manager wasn’t on site at the time I was told by a worker and he refused to acknowledge my problems. Hope whoever reads this helps them .
The food itself was badly cooked and disgusting . But worse than that - these guys tried to scam me! When I went up to pay , the owner 'accidentaly' tried to charge me more than 300 dollars for three burgers . He could tell that I was drunk (I was) but he didn't realize that even when I'm drunk I can still notice when something says 300 rather than 30. Don't eat there - and furthermore, don't trust them either.
Food was okay. Not great. The thing that concerns me is it was very overpriced, and I saw someone else mention a gratuity charge here. I couldn't see one on the handwritten bill, but I tipped 20%. If there was a gratuity charge that they did not inform me of, that's a pretty scummy thing to do. I would recommend avoiding this place and choosing a different diner or one of the many delis nearby.
Stopped by for a quick breakfast...big mistake. Food was mediocre at best, service by owner was poor and he tried to defend the food being overpriced. If you're in the mood for a $30 supermarket steak that's dry, chewy and old then this is your place.
The food was horrible, I order an egg white omelet with mushrooms and onions, with homefries well done, the service was horrible, not even a good morning from my server and he stood at a distance taking my order, seemed like they were understaffed because he was also the chef, however there was a worker that came in and had his meal well prepared and also was able to help him self with espresso, and I said to myself at least someone is enjoying their breakfast and his plate look like he ordered his meal from a real diner, this place is not a diner, do not waste your money here
This diner offers nothing but disgusting food. The chef is so rude i wouldnt be surprised if he spit in the food. I know grits taste horrible but they grits taste like it came out the devils behind.
Food was quickly made and served.. They didn't ask how a person likes their burger.. And the over all price for a burger and fries for 2 was over $35!! The food was bland.. We ate the pickle.. A few bites of French fries and left a pile of food..
This place is filthy, the owner is extremely rude and disrespectful holding no regard for safety by not even wearing a mask while working. An African american girl came in and asked to use the bathroom, this man gave the most condescending and negative look I've ever seen and said "no money no honey" as she pleaded to use the restroom. Avoid this place.
I needed to find a bathroom quickly, and this was the only open establishment nearby. There were 0 customers inside. The two guys behind the counter said I could only use the restroom if I paid him $3. I told him it was an emergency and this was ridiculous and he responded "that's business. where would you go to the bathroom if not for me?" Inhumane. I'd never consider giving these gentlemen my business - ever. Hopefully neither ever experience an emergency.
Stay away from this place. How is it possible to f up breakfast?? I ordered coffee, 2 scrambled eggs, toast (didn’t have rye???), potatoes and bacon. I got 2 runny eggs, wheat toast (he did tell me) and horrific turkey bacon!! When I asked what was on my plate he told me turkey and that they don’t cook pork there!! That’s fine bro but you have to tell me that it’s going to be turkey bacon and not freaking real bacon. I didn’t touch the turkey and sat there for 30 minutes. The guy never came to ask if I wanted a refill of coffee?? Now get this, I was the only person in the place!!!!!!! No joke but now I know why. The dude was like I’ll only charge you $15!!!! I was livid and he told me the turkey was $5!!! I’ve been eating in diners for the better part of 50 years. This place was the absolute worst. I couldn’t care less about $15. It’s the principle. Lesson learned. Don’t eat in a 100% empty diner! Apparently I was the only person in Fort Greene who didn’t get the memo.
Please don’t ever go to this restaurant the owner is very rude and has a nasty attitude. The food was cold and very distasteful and they still charged for food that was from the can which was supposed to be salmon sorry it wasn’t the grits was so cold the cheese nor butter would melt the home fries had more onions and green peppers then potatoes and to top it off i changed my order to fries and hot wings the wings had no meat straight from the freezer and when it told to the owner his reaction was very nasty i will be reporting them because they need to be shut down. That’s why the place stay empty I should have known better. Run don’t walk never enter this place unless you don’t care what you eat i would not give that food to a homeless person. I would rather give a homeless person money instead or Mc Donald’s seriously.
The food was absolutely disgusting. I had the literal munchies and I still could barely force down the pancakes and left half of it untouched. And I'm not even a picky eater. I've had school lunches that were better.
Bacon was like dog treats. French toast was literally 3 slices of bread. The beggin strip bacon and a waffle was $18. No music, nothing on the walls. Couldn't tell if the server hated us or not. It was like a David Lynch movie.
I really was in the mood for diner we sat down for a few minutes. Nobody came over to us. My wife went into the bathroom before we start eating. There are roaches on the floor thanks no thanks. Also, there is no letter grade on the front of the store either.
IF I COULD GIVE THIS PLACE A NEGATIVE INFINITY I WOULD! Me and my friends got off a long shift and got told off by the owner or worker or whoever was there. We hadn’t even sat down yet. Whoever was there gave us attitude and when we decided to leave he told us to give him the menus. We were nice from the first moment we walked in.
The atmosphere is nice. It’s in the heart of Fulton St. the service was OK as well. The waitress was sweet and respectful. The food was not something that I enjoyed. I ordered French toast with Turkey bacon and cheese eggs. The French toast wasn’t very flavorful and the eggs came without any cheese. When I brought it to the waitresses attention she gave me a cold slice of cheese. I suppose she did the best she could and I am still appreciative of the service she provided. I thought the price for the slice of cheese was high as well, as she charged me $3. I was also surprised by the almost $12 gratuity fee. When I asked her what the fee was for she showed me on the back of the menu in fine print which stated all tables will be charged the fee. Once she explained this, I had no problem paying but it would be nice for them to print those words bigger and put it on the front of the menu instead of hiding it in the back. I would not come back here for breakfast.
