Opinions de Di Fara Brooklyn
I was in Brooklyn (visiting from Philly) for a work thing and finished early so I decided to bang bang Di Fara and Luigi‘s pizza. They’re very different, but both are pretty incredible. Di Fara does a more of a crushed (very slightly chunky) tomato sauce that’s distributed alongside the cheese rather than totally under. The cheese hits the dough in places where there isn’t much sauce, creating a more adventurous slice eating experience. Each bite is slightly different and I love that. The crust is crispy and chewy, the perfect balance, and together with the tangy sauce, fresh basil, and cupping pepperoni, you can’t go wrong. It’s a little pricey, but hey, NY prices! Worth it.
The best pizza I’ve ever tried. Hand formed, with a perfect bake to the crust combined with a great ratio of sauce to cheese. Cheese they add fresh basil which really pushes this over the top.
I finally tried the famous Di Fara Pizza and now understand why it is ranked among the best. They serve the most thin and crispy slice with almost no flop. They top it with a sauce that perfectly balances salty and savory, pleasing your taste buds with every bite. I am not sure how they get the perfect amount of cheese on there, but the cheese did not dominate the slice yet it complimented the sauce and crust so well. I like the fact that everything they serve comes out of the oven fresh right in front of you. Also, there are not that many toppings or other types of slices to choose from, so it eliminates a lot of decision making. Though the pizza is amazing, the restaurant is a hole in the wall on a busy Brooklyn street. They have minimal seating on small folding chairs and tables; something you'd expect to see in one of those dollar slice places. It is also difficult to get to the restaurant, especially if you do not live nearby. You can either take the Q train or drive in some of the most narrow and busy streets to get here. The staff is very friendly and do their best to get your pizza out quick but there can be days where you have to wait in line or wait over an hour to get your pizza, but hey it's really some of the best in the world. 5/5 stars!
Omg. This is top 5 pizza in my life. 6 of us did a “pizza tour” in Brooklyn today, and this is the first stop. I think there is no way the next place is going to hold up to this. Crispy crust, maybe the best sauce we’ve ever had. Wonderful. Stop what you’re doing and go here today.
Hands down one of the best pizzas I have ever had. The crust, the sauce, the basil, the olive oil, everything was on point. Huge shout out to Dino behind the counter. Watching him work was part of the experience and the care he puts into every pie really shows. This is real New York pizza. Worth the trip. Worth the wait. Exceptional.
This incredible hole in the wall in Brooklyn had some of the most incredible pizza I’ve ever had. Crust was crisp, cheese was fresh? And sauce was just right. The guys behind the counter were incredibly friendly and willing to engage in casual conversation. Service was great. Placed our order and got our slices in a reasonable amount of time. Not thing I could complain about. If you’re in the area, stop in for a slice. You’ll be incredibly thankful!
So worth the trip for a ny slice. The sauce was so delicious, I could have eaten a bucket of it, the basil and cheese ratio was perfect, overall the traditional slice of pizza was my favorite pizza ever! The square Sicilian slice was delicious too, just not so easy to eat; much thicker and heavier slice. Very little seating available, but we got lucky, it was a gorgeous day, and we sat outside on a 3 person bench and waited for our pizza, the 1 table outside became available so we got to snag it. There's a window out front they can hand your order right to you.
I've only been here a handful of times , but everytime I make the trip to Brooklyn, visiting this place is always on my mind for lunch. Parking is always annoying, I parked a block away but its normal for this area, especially if you want to sit and dine in. They have a unique style and taste for their brand of pizza and walking in to the store you can see why. Di Fara has been around for decades and the history is well showcased in the store. I tried the square and a regular slice and though it was the most money I ever spent on a pizza slice, it was well worth it. The sauce is flavorful and overwhelming. The crust is crunchy and a perfect balance to the cheese. The touch of basil leaves on the pizza is also a great compliment. I ordered 1 slice and when I was done I ordered 2 more immediately. Overall one of the most iconic pizza spots in the United States with great pizza.
Dave was not wrong giving this place a 9.4! Very small place with not much seating but we got lucky sitting by the window. Pie didn’t take too long even with them being behind on orders, maybe 15-20min we had to wait. But it was worth every minute! Sooo yummy! Definitely worth a stop if you find yourself in Brooklyn!
Believe the hype. This is the best pizza you will ever have. No joke. The sauce is fantastic. The dough is good. And the cheese tastes perfect in the mix. When they cut up fresh basil on top, oh boy. I really enjoyed both the regular and Sicilian. The pepperoni was delicious also. Plan to wait unless you get there when they open. But trust me, it is worth it
Best ever! Dave Portnoy gave it a DOUBLE 9.4...I give it a 9.5. Hard to get to but well worth the ride from the city! Great service and historic spot! The real deal...

Never does this establishment disappoint! Always the number 1 pizza in NY, thin dough, excellent fresh ingredients and one of a kind taste!! No other pizza for us!
Modern building, comfy outside seating. staff is friendly. Pizza, well it was NY pizza. Still haven’t found the WOW pizza yet
Felt really good to finally try this pizza shop with so much legendary history. However, and I am honestly sad to say this...the pizza wasn't bad but it wasn't amazing either hence the 3/5 food rating. I think my expectations were too high being an italian-American born and raised in NYC. Glad I finally tried it but not worth traveling out of your way for. Also I thought $5 for one regular slice was pricey even for today's economy. They accept credit cards now but even so, that was the cash price.
This is a tough one. My bf and I ordered a pie with mushrooms, onions, and semi sun dried tomatoes. The toppings + sauce = delicious. The crust, however just... wasn't it. The texture/mouth-feel was almost like a gluten-free pie. My bf agreed. From other reviews, we know that they have a unique crust style, but what we tried was nothing like what's been described to us. We're going back soon to try individual plain slices to give it another try. Hoping this was just an off day.
South Carolinian here who tried some excellent pizza options in New York City (Lucali being my favorite, followed by Joe’s Pizza and artichoke). I honestly wasn’t super impressed by this Pizza. It was great overall and would be five stars if I was having it in South Carolina where we don’t get high-quality pizza like in NYC, but for the standard NYC sets I was probably expecting something that really was exceptional. Maybe my expectations were just too high, but I feel like I’ve seen this restaurant Get a lot of raves online. if you’re in the area, I would say certainly worth trying a slice, but I wouldn’t go out of your way.
I'm not a native to NY so I'm sure my opinion is going to differ from the vast majority of the local 5-star reviews. I hit up Di Fara in a symbolic foodie style pilgrimage to find the pizza that best symbolizes the original Brooklyn slice. Di Fara has been around forever and its mystique is pretty well known in the pizza world... I found it to be a little less magical than I hoped for. I got a regular pie and when I opened the box what I found was a slightly disappointing and definitely greasy pizza that without its storied history wouldn't hit the three stars I'm giving it. Mr. DeMarco has been making these pizzas for over 50 years in the same location with countless... seriously countless awards and recognition over the decades, which makes it worth checking out :)
I was expecting it to be a busy place with lot of crowd, but was surprised to find no one over there, little sad that how it lost its charm in the last few years. Pizza was decent, I honestly felt Lucali to be better than this, but yeah surely it’s among the top pizzas of mine in NYC. Crust is little too hard.
I got the chance to visit with my family last weekend, and the pizza certainly blew all expectations. I read a couple of reviews beforehand to get a feel for the place and recommend it to my family when we arrived. The service was quick, and the pizza did not disappoint. It was one of the best slices I've ever had; all the toppings blended so well, and it was a decent-sized portion! I highly recommend it and can't wait to visit again if I'm ever in New York.

I had a high expectation coming here today. I have eaten pizza here before in its hey days when Dominic was around. Since he is gone, the pizza here is made by his kids and his family but it’s …
This is the first time trying Di Fara. The picture says everything. C'mon, how do you serve a customer a slice with the cheese already halfway off. As I ate the slice, the rest of the cheese slid entirely off. I also got the square slice and half the dough was super soggy. I much preferred the regular slice over the square. I'm giving three stars because the taste was good and fresh. I would give it one more chance to see if this was just a fluke.
This post will be something of a journey, because that is literally what it took to get here. First off, Di Fara had been on my bucket list for 10+ years given it's history and the recommendation of Anthony Bourdain and Dave Portnoy. When a relative of mine moved to Manhattan in 2021, I finally had an opportunity to visit and Di Fara was right on the top of my list. I arrived in June of 2022 and decided to soak in the entire NYC vibe and walked from midtown Manhattan all the way to Di Fara! A travel distance of 10 miles on foot! The entire experience of getting there was exhausting but great! I was super hungry and excited to boot! However, on getting to Di Fara, I had realized few things. 1. The original owner (Domenico) had passed away just 3 months before I arrived. 2. They were only taking orders from the window...no seating which was not fun after traveling 10 miles on foot. But, I came all this way, so I ordered 2 regular thin (because I thought I would like that better) and 1 Sicilian. Each slice was over 5 dollars, a steeeep price to pay. The pizza itself was good not great. I even really liked the Sicilian better! But it didn't wow me like a few other places did. The pizza was also warm but not enough to really melt the cheese. I was actually very disappointed at the time and it stewed on my quite a bit. However, on reflection, I still liked the pizza and I understand that Domenico's children were still making all the pizzas at the time, even just 3 months after his passing, so I think that is great. If I am around the area again, I will give them another shot, but I won't walk 10 miles for them again haha!

If you enjoy eating paper you will love this pizza house. DiFara has new owners who are using cheap cheese, olive oil and stale crust. Pizza sold for dollar at other locations taste great compare…
First bought this pizza from Wonder. No flavor! crust flavorless bad consistency. Try it again. Bought it at ShopRite frozen section. I threw it in the garbage. It was the worst version of the Wonder version. Don’t waste your money.
What did I just eat? Is this actually authentic New York sliced pizza? This is the place that everyone made famous for? For absolutely no reason I couldn’t even finish my slice and I had to give it to my friend not worth the hype. This was just bad, come and figure it out by yourself. Make sure not to get a pie. Just try out a slice and then you will realize.
