This was easily one of the best steaks I’ve tried. I’ve had similar preparations in many places, but this one truly stood out. From the moment I walked in, the aroma of smoke and perfectly cooked meat immediately caught my attention and set the tone for the experience. The atmosphere is very pleasant and comfortable, making the whole visit even more enjoyable. I left very satisfied and will definitely be coming back again.🥩❤️
WHAT DO THEY DO TO THIS NACHO CHEESE DIP TO MAKE IT SO PERFECT?! It’s perfect. I’d never order this of my own will but my friend ordered it and what a great decision that was. The cornbread is great. All the meat is great. A 1/2 lb of meat per person is definitely enough, especially if you get 1-2 sides. This isn’t the cheapest spot. 2 sides and 2 1/2 lbs of meat was $75 (fed 2 people and was a lot of food). I LOVE that they have Stiegl! And they have special really great mugs for the radlers. Lots of seating. There was a long line on a Saturday at 7pm and it moved slow.
Absolute hands down best BBQ joint in NY and perhaps best I’ve ever had. All the hype about Hometown is on point. Super casual and super friendly staff. You have the choice of both indoor and outdoor seating. Every item on their menu is to die but the ultimate is the pastrami sandwich. YES you heard me right! This sandwich is even better than Katz’s. More bark, more tender, juicier and let’s not forget the buttered rye bread. Bottom line, there is not a single item on their menu that is not worth devouring.
10/10 experience. Food, drinks and service, seriously all outstanding. I like the laid-back atmosphere and the fact that they have good quality napkins. Meat was beautifully cooked and so flavorful. The sides? Perfection. As a southwestern girl I could dream of nothing better. And they were playing steely dan 💯
The brisket and ribs are melt-in-your-mouth and fall-off-the-bone and juicy. Perfect American BBQ. The pastrami bacon is worth it and full of char flavor. We loved the cornbread and the mac and cheese. Atmosphere is very southern. A bit pricey but definitely the best BBQ you can find anywhere in and near the city.
Coming from the UK it is incredibly difficult to find a quality, top end BBQ place. Hometown Bar-B-Que is phenomenal! My wife and I made this a key stop on our trip to NYC and I can fully recommend it to any BBQ enthusiasts or anyone who loves BBQ food!
It was really cool experience. Kind staff, softness brisket and beef rib. If you have remain things, they can provide you take out by yourself. Great!!
Hometown Bar-B-Que is worth the trip out to Red Hook. We ordered the brisket tacos, pulled pork, cornbread, and slaw, and everything was delicious—but the brisket tacos were the standout. Both BBQ sauces were incredible and really elevated the meal. We split everything between two people and the portions were perfect. The atmosphere was super cozy and chill for a Saturday lunch. We grabbed a couple cans of Shiner Bock from the bar and hung out, and it felt like a great spot for groups and even kid-friendly during the daytime. It was freezing when we visited, but I think they have outdoor seating in warmer weather.
Pretty good BBQ place for a NY Joint. Saw this place advertised on Man, Fire, Food on TV. Hard to find a Beef Rib in the area and Texas Red Chili all in one Place. Overall the BBQ was spot on. Everything a BBQ place should be. Smaller place than I expected size wise and got that country look to it. Felt that the Korean Sticky ribs although tasted good was a bit over cooked and tough to eat. The best was that Beef Rib, Brisket and The Chili. Definitely worth the trip and place to check out.
Best bbq I’ve had up north. Might take a while, as this is a counter serve restaurant with a very slow moving line. We thoroughly enjoyed both a brisket sandwich and the pulled pork. The pulled pork was absolute perfection. There are two sauce choices (we preferred the sticky). I also loved our little cup of mustardy Cole slaw and a side of crusty, buttery cornbread. Great experience.
Super fan spot. In the top circle of NYC-based BBQ establishments. Daily list of standard and special BBQ fare, by the lb or in sandwich form. Good sides. Ribs and Pulled Pork I give an 8/10, brisket at 7/10, beans 8.5/10, corn bread is really interesting 8.5/10. Other sides are a 7/10. Overall comment is that I wish there was a bit more smoke flavor on everything, and the sides were a bit on the fatty side. But it's very good BBQ. Great atmosphere, and excellent vibe. Live music put everything over the top. Totally awesome scene and energy. Drinks are also very good, homemade cocktails and all the mixers and garnishes taste fresh. Would absolutely recommend.
Highly recommend this place! I hate white meat because it can be dry but I cannot express enough how PERFECT the chicken breast was here. The Korean Ribs were delightful- the perfect mix between sweet, a mild kick and the crushed peanuts on top just added to this. The Mac and cheese was very decadent and filled with cheesy flavor. We also got the brisket dip which was amazing!!!! Very thick and with a mild kick as well, I cannot express this enough- you need to try this place!! Just know when you go in you will need to order at the cash register to order. They’ll give you a table number. You will have to self serve plates, cutlery and water.
We came here on a Sunday late in the afternoon, between lunch and dinner and it was cold. There was still quite a line ahead of us but the kind bartender came around and took drink orders while we waited. The line did take a bit of time (maybe 30 minutes or so) but we had our drinks and they had live music and games on a TV's so it passed quick. We tried the pulled pork sandwich, brisket sandwich, pastrami bacon and Mac and cheese. All of these were delicious and the portion sizes were very generous. We took home leftovers and they reheated just as well. Highly recommend the Mac & cheese & pulled pork, truly great BBQ in Brooklyn. Afterwards we walked to the water and there are some really nice views. Make note, it can be hard to find street parking in this area.
Probably one of my favorite place in the city. This famous barbecue is an institution. Never deceived, the quality is always here.

As a local, I try to avoid the lines but if caught in one, it's well worth the wait. Ribs are amazing, cornbread is unlike no other, and you don't want to go home without an order of collards.

Was so hyped for this place, and while it was good, it wasn't anything out of this world. The beef rib was huge and delicious but the sadly brisket was pretty tough/ dry. The Pork ribs were really good too. The price was crazy high. I know it's NYC, but these prices are higher than famous bbq places down south. For a guide 1/2 lb pork ribs equalled to just 2 ribs. Service was few words and placing meat on the tray, but can't deny how hard these guys work to smoke the meat for hours.
Go there early to avoid long lines especially during weekend lunch times. Favorite was pastrami bacon, beef rib, and cornbread. Italian sausage was not bad, but the didn’t prefer the cheese inside. Cornbread was very moist and tasty, would get again. Coleslaw could be dressed a little more. Brisket was not moist, nor tender and was my least favorite. Would go back if there’s no line, otherwise not worth the wait on a hot summers day.
I just loved the idea of dining to a local place; we really loved the vibe! It’s a self service restaurant where the staff are extremely helpful and friendly even though we were tourists dining for the first time there! I noticed on the board menu that several dishes were written off which meant that they were easily sold out. Tables are on a first come first serve basis and the drinks are sold on the bar. There is a station with several take away boxes which you can use to take out your leftovers!! The food was bursting with flavour; the family found it a bit spicy but to me it was amazing!
Probably the best BBQ in NYC. While a far cry from some of the titans in the South, Hometown deserves credit for its innovative approach to a classic cuisine. The highlights on the menu are the greens, beans and potato salad and their two sauces are excellent. In terms of flavor, Hometown knows what it’s doing. The meat, however, is not quite perfect. The brisket could render the fat more to avoid heavy fatty pieces, and while the smoke on the ribs were good, the flavor was average. If you’re thinking of heading to Red Hook to visit, be prepared to wait at least an hour in line. They will supplement this wait time by taking drink orders in line, or you can walk up to the bar and grab one as well. With occasional live music, and ample space, Hometown certainly has the look and feel of a classic BBQ joint. Worth a visit- if you can make it through the line!
Amazing! The only reason it's 4/5 is because the brisket we got was dry. Highly recommend the Korean sticky ribs and the mac & cheese. The slaw could be improved, we found it sort of plain

This was my third time here and for some reason the wait in line was for 40 minutes (I wanted some BBQ and happened to be in the area so I waited 🤷🏾♀️). I got a $22 brisket sandwich that was hard to chew and the meat was not hot. The hometown bbq at industry city has always been good when I've gone! Their food was hot and the brisket tender with the right amount of fat. So i'm giving up on this location 🫤 Every time I come here the brisket dissapoints.
Wait was 20-30 minutes on a Saturday at lunch hour. The good thing about this line is that there’s always enough seating. Warm service at the register. But I honestly feel that the place is a little overhyped. My biggest issue is that everything came out tepid, even the pastrami bacon that’s not ready right away and requires someone to bring to our table. The brisket and the pull pork were surprisingly dry. Pastrami bacon was better with the extra fat. Mac n cheese tasted like boxed food. The highlight was probably the corn bread, which, with the salt flakes and honey butter, was pleasantly succulent.
After having a few real Texas briskets, I had to give this one a try and I must say, it was nowhere near an authentic Texas brisket. I ordered one pound of brisket and got half point, half flat. The point was “okay,” but the flat was really disappointing. The way it had to be sliced already told me it was severely undercooked.
Arrive early! We went right when they opened and had to wait 15-20 mins behind about 10 people in line. A lot of hype here for being the best in the city. I cant confirm or deny yet because I have yet to visit other BBQ joints in NYC. Definitely good vibes and nice atmosphere. But the BBQ doesn't compare to Texas, like not even close. For Brooklyn (or perhaps anywhere outside of Texas that isn't part of the South? Perhaps?) it's decent BBQ. The brisket and pulled pork were actually really good and my favorite. Ribs and rib tips weren't the best. Mac n cheese and corn bread sides were okay. I don't think I'd go out of my way to visit again unless I was making another IKEA run.

Way too expensive, food not that good sorry, poor service, did not find any ambiance.
Not a place for smash burger lmaoo. It look like they took a microwaveable burger and smashed it down and brisket sandwich needed more seasoning
EDIT: Leftovers reheated tasted a bit better than what we had yesterday! Food was mid at best. We ordered the brisket, pulled pork and the kbbq ribs for the meats and for the sides we ordered the potato salad, mac and cheese, coleslaw and the beans. The brisket, we ordered a pound and we got 2 slices of good brisket (top layer in the photo) and the last 4 were very dry. The pulled pork was decent, not much flavor. The kbbq ribs were the best out of the 3,imo. For the sides, the mac and cheese were lacking sauce, but a nice bell pepper taste. Coleslaw was.. coleslaw. The potato salad was a mashed potato type of salad, on the drier side. The beans had a nice unexpected spicy kick to it which was nice. Overall, it was decent bbq, was it worth the $130 and the wait? Not really. We had high expectations since people recommended it to us and we came there on an empty stomach.
I’ll be honest, we had high hopes and large appetites when we arrived here - the vibe is good and we’d just eaten amazing cue at Bark BBQ… but, yeah… Service kinda set the tone - brusque and without any southern charm. Same from the barman. We don’t care if they spit in our face if the food is sublime, but, yeah - “barely mid”. I’ll add that we’re huge BBQ fans and have eaten from some of the South’s best, so this isn’t our first time. Maybe we ordered wrong, but the brisket tacos didn’t hit, the jerk rib tips were nicely cooked but didn’t have much flavour… the sausage was the stand out and we actually enjoyed and slaw was also finished, but lacked bite… the pulled pork was by far the most disappointing - drenched in oil (see photo) and lacking any flavour depth. Probably ate a third of it - after straining off the oil and lathering it in (pretty good) sauces. As I scraped the rest into a takeaway box for our dog I genuinely paused to consider if he would even want it.
Hospitality and service needs to be improved , waste of time and gas. No reservations, just a long ass line

This place was rated the number one BBQ spot in the area, so we made the trip out from downtown Brooklyn expecting something special. Unfortunately, it ended up being one of the most disappointing BBQ experiences I’ve had. The brisket was shockingly dry, so much so that I didn’t even bother finishing it. The regular spare ribs were not much better. The cornbread was excellent, I’ll give them that, but the mac and cheese was completely forgettable. For brisket, spare ribs, a small mac and cheese, and cornbread, the total came out to 67 dollars. For that price, the quality was nowhere near acceptable. Definitely not worth the trip or the hype.
I'm not exaggerating, this was the single most disappointing meal we had in 2025. Everything was cold. They had just opened, we were in there at 12:30. The bread was soaked with grease. The brisket could've been used as bullet proof vests, absolutely dry and tough. Greens lacked flavor, and the coleslaw was like eating unwashed cut cabbage: tough and gritty. Counter was rude. $130 for 3 small sides, a cornbread, ½lbs of brisket and pulled pork, a bahn mi, and a single drink. I don't waste food, and I never forego leftovers, but we had to throw 75% of it away because it was so bad; it would've felt inhumane to give it away to a homeless person and make them sick, because we felt physically ill for the next hour after only a few bites. Pit masters and owners should be ashamed.
