Real BBQ joint! The beef ribs is the best dish on the menu Cool decor, order at the counter, walk to your table.

Internationally famous bbq spot, delicious meats and sides in a very cozy atmosphere. I went there twice both in the summer and the winter, both times had delicious food and some leftovers to enjoy home. Some seasonal specials like the fire roasted chipotle chicken are worth trying!

Everything was beautifully cooked. Some Japanese colleagues in town, we enjoyed ourselves across much of the menu. The highlights were the beef rib, collard greens and brisket. Highly recommend.

Unreal bbq smoked meats and side options. We had the Korean bbq ribs which fell off the bone, rib tips, mac n cheese, pulled pork, cornbread and coleslaw, shared between 3, it was epic. The queue goes out the door from midday until evening, it moves fast, but is a testament to how delicious this spot is. Recommend leaving someone in the queue while someone goes to get a beer and then rejoins the queue with the beer. Overall great spot, we'll be back!

Excellent smoked BBQ. Korean spare ribs are must. "Regular" spare ribs and hot wings are also delicious. Self service. Prices moderately higher. Location is in Brooklyn and requires one hour commuting from Manhattan. Variety of draft beers, sodas, wines...

We’ve been here many a time and it’s always a hit. The line can take some time, so show up at or right before 12pm on a weekend or you’ll be waiting for up to 45 min - 1 hour. Go with a group so you can order a bunch of things. The lamb banh mi, turkey sandwich (HTBC), korean sticky ribs, Vietnamese hot wings and beef rib are easily the best things in the menu. Can’t leave without some mac and cheese or the corn bread. Their bloody mary is a must. TBH, the brisket is a bit of a miss personally.

Went for a BBQ Thanksgiving with some friends and had an amazing meal and a fabulous time. The bloody mary is dangerously delicious, especially the candied bacon garnish. brisket is always a win, but this Thanksgiving, my friends and I all agreed that the beef rib was the best meat in the house. Mac n cheese, mashed, stuffing and pickles were delicious but forgotten as all the attention was on the meat. We also had some fabulous turkey breast with gravy, jalapeno cheddar sausage and pulled pork, but the beef is all anyone remembered after the food coma.

Hometown Bar-B-Que is a small, family-owned restaurant that specializes in authentic, pit-smoked meats. The meats are smoked for hours over oak wood, and the result is some of the most flavorful and tender barbecue I've ever had. I started my meal with the brisket, which was perfectly cooked and fell apart at the touch. The flavor was rich and smoky, and the meat was so tender that I didn't even need a knife to cut it. I also tried the short ribs, which were equally as good. The meat was so tender that it literally melted in my mouth. The coleslaw was fresh and crunchy, and the mac and cheese was creamy and cheesy. I also had a side of the cornbread, which was moist and flavorful. Overall, I had an excellent experience at Hometown Bar-B-Que. The food was delicious, the service was friendly, and the atmosphere was relaxed. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a great meal. Here are some additional details about the brisket, short ribs, bacon, coleslaw, and mac and cheese: Brisket: The brisket was smoked for 12 hours over oak wood. It was tender and flavorful, with a nice smoky flavor. Short ribs: The short ribs were smoked for 8 hours over oak wood. They were fall-apart tender and had a rich, beefy flavor. Bacon: The bacon was smoked for 2 hours over oak wood. It was crispy and smoky, with a nice salty flavor. Coleslaw: The coleslaw was made with fresh cabbage, carrots, and onions. It was tossed in a creamy dressing with a hint of sweetness. Mac and cheese: The mac and cheese was made with elbow macaroni, cheddar cheese, and Parmesan cheese. It was creamy and cheesy, with a nice crispy crust on top. I would definitely recommend Hometown Bar-B-Que to anyone looking for a great meal. The food is delicious, the service is friendly, and the atmosphere is relaxed.

You cannot go wrong with this menu. The brisket is the signature, but collard greens, fried cauliflower, cornbread, and tacos are also all delicious. Laid- back, ambient interior and friendly staff!

Really just excellent across the board, but the pastrami sandwich (weekends only it seems) was truly next level. Beats out many, if not all, the top places one might think of to get a pastrami sandwich in nyc. Cut thick and ridiculously tender, just superb. They were out of rye and gave a much bigger sandwich on a baguette which was actually delicious, and very nice of them. Pulled pork sandwich and cornbread were also top notch. Only thing to note is the potato salad is more of a mashed consistency, but again very tasty. Basically this place is exactly the type of bbq nyc is not known for, and as such a delightfully surprising treat.

Probably the closest you’ll get to proper Texas bbq experience in NYC. That unfortunately also means long queues - we waited an hour on a Sunday late afternoon but the experience was perked up by live music and a couple of beers. The food here is absolutely fantastic, the pitmasters clearly take their craft seriously. The beef rib was the highlight, a primal eating experience with a peppery bark. The brisket (make sure to get it fatty) and jalapeño cheddar sausage were a close joint second. Sides were decent but not life-changing. The two table sauces were excellent too, they should bottle it. Prices are high but fair for good quality meat - make sure not to order what you need and not get caught out by an unexpectedly enormous beef rib.

Phenomenal time we all had !! A bunch of coworkers came here to celebrate a birthday. The food is a bit pricey but so worth every penny, from the meat to the drinks everything was incredible & everyone of us enjoyed the night !! So much food left to take with us as well.. Loved the rustic & family feel when you're here as a group ! If you haven't tried Hometown I highly recommend at least once !

Really phenomenal BBQ, the best I’ve had since being in NYC. The meats and sides are absolutely amazing. It’s a really nice location too - a bit hard to reach from the city (45 min by ferry/subway), but it’s really nicely decorated with plenty of space. Wish they had more fans because it is HOT in the building, but would be fun to come at night when it is cooler out (and they have live music!). The cornbread, pickles, and mac and cheese were delicious. The brisket was super juicy and I liked the turkey too. The ribs were a bit dry but still good. The line gets super long during the day (was about 30 minutes on a Saturday at 2pm) and I imagine it’s longer at night. I will 100% come back here, had a great time and would highly recommend.

First time experiencing real American BBQ and oh my, the hike to red hook was worth it! Brisket was shockingly tender and juicy, while the ribs were sublime. Cornbread deserves its own shoutout, wow! Never had anything like it. Mac & cheese was also incredibly flavourful and rich. Completed the meal with some delicious draft beers. 10/10, you’ve got to visit while in New York.

This place makes me wish I had it in my hometown. It is without a doubt the most beautiful Barbecue experience in New York City. You’d think they couldn’t nail everything on their menu but they just do, you can choose anything and you’ll be chuffed! Although there are places with better individual pieces, Hometown is the most complete Barbecue platter you can get. Stand out for me was the honey drizzled corn bread - no where else has come close. The best bread I’ve ever had. The service is quality as well, they know they’re stuff and they’re happy to share it. You tell them what you like and they’ll sort out the platter.

Hometown Bar-B-Que is one of the best BBQ joints in all of New York City. The menu is diverse and has surprises beyond the amazing staples like brisket, beef ribs, pork ribs, and pulled pork. The prices might be higher than you normally pay for barbecue but the food quality is high enough that it’s worth it.

The closest thing to Texas bbq I’ve found in nyc and I’m so grateful for it. Bbq is one of my favorite food groups and this place does not disappoint. Now that I’ve tried it, I’m going to be trekking my ass from the UWS monthly to get my mouth on some brisket to say the least.

Busy! But for a good reason. This place is also LOUD but if you have the pipes to order get the brisket and get the cornbread. A definite must for this location.

A favorite BBQ place in town. can be very crowded at night and weekend. They have very good briskets with nicely burn and juicy, soft meat.

M
Madison Riley

It might be a slight trek to get out there but if you're craving BBQ, it's worth it! The meat absolutely fell off the bone, the seasoning was perfect, and the cocktails were fresh and variable to anyone's taste. The vibe was very "I've just moved from California to Austin, TX and this suits my aesthetic" but when you're in NYC that makes perfect sense and is still quite beautiful. A mix of country, pop, and rock music over the speakers, casual dining area, and generous portion sizes makes this a winner.

M
Mohamed Osama (Oss)

The food in this place is phenomenal! We tried the brisket, the Turkey and beef ribs. All were absolutely fantastic. But the beef ribs were really the best! Be prepared to invest some time here as the line is quite long but it is totally worth it!

Overall rating: 4.9 So expensive but so good. I’m so surprised this doesn’t have a higher rating! This is a sign to go here if you’re debating it. First the atmosphere, space is soo beautiful. It’s so large and so gorgeous!! One of the reasons why I love Brooklyn. I got the pulled pork sandwich & corn bread which was $26 🫣 but it was sooooooooo good. My friend got 2 ribs which were $16! And something else, I can’t remember. The corn bread could have been better but it was still good. I also separately had a hot toddy which was soo good & so large! The staff was so friendly and so chill. I definitely will be coming back when I’m craving BBQ or tomorrow. Highly recommend!

Fantastic food and great energy. We sat outside on the picnic tables where there is plenty of shade for us and our baby. They were out of a bunch of stuff on a Tuesday, but we had the beef ribs, Korean baby back, Mac and cheese, and corn bread- all incredibly delicious

M

We were a fab four, and we went all in for the brisket, pork, ribs, cornbread, Mac and cheese, brisket and cheese, Korean pork ribs, coleslaw, and a bunch of other mouthwatering treats. Everything was amazeballs, but that brisket and cornbread were off the charts 🙌 One of the top-notch BBQ joints I've ever hit up in the city. They've got outdoor seating, so grab your grub, a cool sip, and step outside - it's like a picnic in the midst of the urban jungle. Totally recommended.

Amazing meats and sides. I wish they would offer table service, because it can get full and we waited more than half hour in line just to order food. However it was totally worth it, I recommend the brisket, Mac and cheese, corn bread and the pickles!

D

Who knew you could find such delicious bbq in NY! This gem in Brooklyn passed my bbq test with flying colors. More impressive than the beef rib which was tender and packed with flavor, the sides were honestly amazing. There’s nothing like it anywhere in the state of New York.

Great restaurant, great neighborhood I’m glad I was able to finally to get over to Red Hook to try this place this past weekend. There will be a line during the weekend, I think we waited for about an hour, but as somebody from Texas will tell you, that’s to be expected at a good bbq place. The risk is whether the place delivers on the food after the wait and for me, Hometown did. Subtracting the the cost of a flight to Austin, I was happy, considering it among the best I’ve had in the city. The brisket was tender and flavorful, good sausage, and the beef rib - OMG I don’t usually go for beef ribs but it was amazing. I wasn’t a huge fan of their sauces but they did the trick. And again the whole atmosphere of the place itself and Red Hook makes it a great place to visit in summer. I will return!

If you like BBQ, you’ll love the brisket here. For two people, we ordered: - 1/2 lb brisket (ask for a fatty cut) - 1/2 lb spare ribs (was more like 3/4 lb) - 1 pastrami bacon - small collard greens It was the perfect amount for us. The other reviews mentioning the slow ordering system are pretty accurate, but it also evens out a bit since you are getting most of your order immediately (rather than waiting for it to come to your table). The brisket was our favorite, it fell apart just from being held up in the air. The ribs weren’t bad, but not a must-have. Same with the pastrami bacon, though I can’t complain when getting a slab of pork belly. The collard greens were great though, really tasty and a nice amount of pork in there too :) I wasn’t a biggest fan of the sauces they had at the table, but the mustard (?) sauce that came with the pastrami bacon was awesome. It was tangy and cut through the fat of the meat so well without being overpowering. Overall glad we visited, I would recommend trying to get there about 10 min before opening to avoid a super long line.

A little bit of a wait, but they serve you drinks while you are waiting. Amazing atmosphere. The food is OUT OF THIS WORLD. Everything is 10/10 - my favorites: brisket, corn bread, pickles, slaw, Korean BBQ. Come with friends so you can all order something different.

First time here and I have to say I loved it. Very reasonable prices especially for the amazing quality of food. I had the pulled pork, small Mac & cheese and, honey cornbread and the wife had the Korean BBQ ribs, small Mac & cheese, small collard greens, and honey cornbread. There was live music which just added to the amazing atmosphere. I am definitely coming back to try more things off the menu!!!

Hometown BBQ was our first stop on our vacation to NYC. I discovered the restaurant on the Food Network, Man vs. Food and couldn't wait to try those Korean Ribs! My oh my were they Damn good! We also ordered just about everything else on the menu and was not disappointed. The servings are plentiful and enough to share if you like. I came in ready for the K-ribs but fell in love with the Beef rib. A masterpiece!!

j

Excellent place to go, summer, fall and winter (probably spring too.) Extremely cosy and costly, probably the location. At times, a live band comes and play, making this a great experience as one dines. If you can't find a seat at the location (outdoor seating only if the weather permits) you can easily do take out. But come early - once something is sold out, then it's out for the day.

Best BBQ I have ever had. Got some amazing Beef Ribs alongside some Brisket, which were delicious. We also ordered the Korean Pork Ribs, which was very tasty with a nice tangy sauce, and the Mac & Cheese was super creamy. Overall, it was all just amazing. I never had such amazing bbq and friendly service like this before. Will come back every time I'm craving BBQ.

An absolute homerun by the hometown team. We couldn’t get into Redhook tavern on a Saturday so we ventured over to hometown and I’m glad we did! The line took about 30 mins (we got in before it opened and were stationed under the hometown sign for context). We obviously got way too much food for two people but we wanted to try everything and I’m glad we got what we did! I do think I’d skip the bacon next time but the sausage, brisket, beans, and potato salad were to DIE for. I’m not usually a pulled pork fan but the sandwich was amazing as well. The bar was a bit chaotic as the bartender would just pick someone to service but it was fine. Would recommend and would return!

We’ve been to many BBQ places across the country and this ranks among our favorites. Get the brisket. Both sauces on the table are outstanding.

**Update** first time I went the food was good but me and the queso Mac didn’t vibe lol. Had to run it back so here we go They open at 12 and already like like 30 ppl in line lol. There was a wait to get in and order. And I have to be honest it wasn’t a crazy wait and after getting the food it was well worth it. There plenty of seating and a bar area. They have a pretty big menu. Today we ordered 1/2lb or brisket, A pulled pork sandwich, large collard greens, the H.T.B.C and banana pudding. The pulled pork sandwich was piled high and flavorful. My dad snatched it off the plate and didn’t wanna let me take a pic. It was pretty big and he struggled to try to finish it. The collard greens were good. The brisket was very flavorful and tender. I enjoyed this brisket more that other places in the immediate area (not throwing shots) the banana pudding wasn’t a must have item, but it wasn’t bad. The HTBC is the best turkey sandwich I have ever had in my life. It’s a meal. It’s so flavorful and moist. The Texas toast is insane. Everyone need to order this sandwich. It was amazing. The staff is friendly and attentive. While on the line there was someone taking drink orders (which was cool) when you’re ordering food you can ask 20 questions and every answer is thoughtful and came with a smile. They like what they’ve created and want to share it with you. That’s dope! Food: 5 | Service: 5 | Atmosphere: 5 Seating type: there are 3 seating areas (bar, indoor and outside) Vegetarian options: they have some solid options Parking space: there is no dedicated parking here (that’s I’m aware of) Parking options: street parking is hard, if only there was a parking lot next door lol Kid-friendliness: the kids will love it Wheelchair accessibility: this establishment is handicap accessible

Superb BBQ in NYC. I brought my Polish GF’s family here (who hasn’t had too much American BBQ in their life) and they loved it. Honestly even for my own personal experiences, one of the best BBQ restaurants I’ve been to. I would easily recommend balling out a little bit and getting the Beef Rib. That was the best meat for sure. The brisket was also extremely good but we all agreed that the rib was the best. The flavored crust is just perfect. Falls apart in your mouth! The cornbread was salty and buttery. The coleslaw was a very traditional coleslaw. The Mac and Cheese was to die for. The collard greens were good, not the best I’ve had though. All in all, if you find yourself wanting to try American BBQ for the first time, go here instead of Fette Sau in Williamsburg. It’s a bit of a trek, but if you’re a real food enjoyer, then it’s worth it! You can get a nice view of Manhattan around these parts too. Will be coming back!

The atmosphere and service was amazing, also had love music playing, what a super cool place. The food was also really good, was going to get ribs but ended up getting a pastrami sandwich, jalapeno sausage and Mac n cheese. Pulled pork sandwich with Cole slaw. And sides of pickles, collards, Cole slaw, Mac n cheese and cornbread. So that was around $140. Everything was really good to absolutely amazing, except the Cole slaw was pretty underwhelming. We didn't get to spend alot of time at the restaurant but will definitely go again. It's located really close to the water, good views of the Statue of Liberty 🗽 and city skyline. Also have some really merchandise, if not in stock you can get online. Again, will definitely return for drinks and ribs and brisket. Thank you for a great BBQ night out in Red Hook.

This is 100% the best barbecue in NYC. Although pricey, the quality of food is simply outstanding. The atmosphere, both inside the restaurant, as well as on the block outside, is almost always festive. The surrounding Red Hook area is also very popular.

Went there on two separate occasions, and I think this is the best spot to be. It's close to the water if you want to enjoy the view and the food is top tier! We got the pastrami bacon, beef brisket, corn bread, pickles, potato salad, Mac and Cheese and slaw, and it feels like my ancestors are calling and hugging me while spreading love. Everything is amazing, the meat is always tender, the cornbread always makes me act up, and my sister and dad love the Mac and Cheese! While I do feel that the potato salad would better pass as mashed potatoes, nothing on the menu ever disappoints! We also brought leftover food home and it still tastes the same!

L

The food here is amazing! My favorites are Korean sticky ribs and Billy’s housemade Italian sausage. For the ribs, the meat falls right off the bone when you take a bite; then the sweet sticky sauce hit and it’s the most beautiful experience. The sausage is very flavorful and juicy. Both of these options are more impressive than the brisket they have, which is surprising to me. The bacon is also a great option. The sweet cornbread is a perfect addition to any meat options here. The restaurant is large, with outdoor seating and an indoor bar. You place your order at the register and they will bring you your plates. It can get crowded on the weekends, especially during summertime; but if you go on a weekday, there’s usually not a line. Service is friendly. This is a great spot for large group gathering. Definitely worth visiting in Brooklyn

I am not exaggerating when I say it was a 2 hour wait. Got here 1230PM and didn’t get to the front until about 230PM. BUT the wait was worth it. Probably the best bbq I’ve ever had. The beef rib was the size of my face. Everything was very good. I’m going to go into a food induced coma now.

T

This was easily one of the best steaks I’ve tried. I’ve had similar preparations in many places, but this one truly stood out. From the moment I walked in, the aroma of smoke and perfectly cooked meat immediately caught my attention and set the tone for the experience. The atmosphere is very pleasant and comfortable, making the whole visit even more enjoyable. I left very satisfied and will definitely be coming back again.🥩❤️

WHAT DO THEY DO TO THIS NACHO CHEESE DIP TO MAKE IT SO PERFECT?! It’s perfect. I’d never order this of my own will but my friend ordered it and what a great decision that was. The cornbread is great. All the meat is great. A 1/2 lb of meat per person is definitely enough, especially if you get 1-2 sides. This isn’t the cheapest spot. 2 sides and 2 1/2 lbs of meat was $75 (fed 2 people and was a lot of food). I LOVE that they have Stiegl! And they have special really great mugs for the radlers. Lots of seating. There was a long line on a Saturday at 7pm and it moved slow.

Absolute hands down best BBQ joint in NY and perhaps best I’ve ever had. All the hype about Hometown is on point. Super casual and super friendly staff. You have the choice of both indoor and outdoor seating. Every item on their menu is to die but the ultimate is the pastrami sandwich. YES you heard me right! This sandwich is even better than Katz’s. More bark, more tender, juicier and let’s not forget the buttered rye bread. Bottom line, there is not a single item on their menu that is not worth devouring.

10/10 experience. Food, drinks and service, seriously all outstanding. I like the laid-back atmosphere and the fact that they have good quality napkins. Meat was beautifully cooked and so flavorful. The sides? Perfection. As a southwestern girl I could dream of nothing better. And they were playing steely dan 💯

The brisket and ribs are melt-in-your-mouth and fall-off-the-bone and juicy. Perfect American BBQ. The pastrami bacon is worth it and full of char flavor. We loved the cornbread and the mac and cheese. Atmosphere is very southern. A bit pricey but definitely the best BBQ you can find anywhere in and near the city.

Coming from the UK it is incredibly difficult to find a quality, top end BBQ place. Hometown Bar-B-Que is phenomenal! My wife and I made this a key stop on our trip to NYC and I can fully recommend it to any BBQ enthusiasts or anyone who loves BBQ food!

Hometown Bar-B-Que is worth the trip out to Red Hook. We ordered the brisket tacos, pulled pork, cornbread, and slaw, and everything was delicious—but the brisket tacos were the standout. Both BBQ sauces were incredible and really elevated the meal. We split everything between two people and the portions were perfect. The atmosphere was super cozy and chill for a Saturday lunch. We grabbed a couple cans of Shiner Bock from the bar and hung out, and it felt like a great spot for groups and even kid-friendly during the daytime. It was freezing when we visited, but I think they have outdoor seating in warmer weather.

Pretty good BBQ place for a NY Joint. Saw this place advertised on Man, Fire, Food on TV. Hard to find a Beef Rib in the area and Texas Red Chili all in one Place. Overall the BBQ was spot on. Everything a BBQ place should be. Smaller place than I expected size wise and got that country look to it. Felt that the Korean Sticky ribs although tasted good was a bit over cooked and tough to eat. The best was that Beef Rib, Brisket and The Chili. Definitely worth the trip and place to check out.

Best bbq I’ve had up north. Might take a while, as this is a counter serve restaurant with a very slow moving line. We thoroughly enjoyed both a brisket sandwich and the pulled pork. The pulled pork was absolute perfection. There are two sauce choices (we preferred the sticky). I also loved our little cup of mustardy Cole slaw and a side of crusty, buttery cornbread. Great experience.

Super fan spot. In the top circle of NYC-based BBQ establishments. Daily list of standard and special BBQ fare, by the lb or in sandwich form. Good sides. Ribs and Pulled Pork I give an 8/10, brisket at 7/10, beans 8.5/10, corn bread is really interesting 8.5/10. Other sides are a 7/10. Overall comment is that I wish there was a bit more smoke flavor on everything, and the sides were a bit on the fatty side. But it's very good BBQ. Great atmosphere, and excellent vibe. Live music put everything over the top. Totally awesome scene and energy. Drinks are also very good, homemade cocktails and all the mixers and garnishes taste fresh. Would absolutely recommend.

The best BBQ in NYC and most of Texas. This place is divine. Food is delicious and made with love. The line goes around the corner for a reason. Pastrami bacon is heaven. Pulled pork and brisket sandwiches are the bomb and all the sides are scrumptious. Our family go to. ♥️♥️♥️

Highly recommend this place! I hate white meat because it can be dry but I cannot express enough how PERFECT the chicken breast was here. The Korean Ribs were delightful- the perfect mix between sweet, a mild kick and the crushed peanuts on top just added to this. The Mac and cheese was very decadent and filled with cheesy flavor. We also got the brisket dip which was amazing!!!! Very thick and with a mild kick as well, I cannot express this enough- you need to try this place!! Just know when you go in you will need to order at the cash register to order. They’ll give you a table number. You will have to self serve plates, cutlery and water.

We came here on a Sunday late in the afternoon, between lunch and dinner and it was cold. There was still quite a line ahead of us but the kind bartender came around and took drink orders while we waited. The line did take a bit of time (maybe 30 minutes or so) but we had our drinks and they had live music and games on a TV's so it passed quick. We tried the pulled pork sandwich, brisket sandwich, pastrami bacon and Mac and cheese. All of these were delicious and the portion sizes were very generous. We took home leftovers and they reheated just as well. Highly recommend the Mac & cheese & pulled pork, truly great BBQ in Brooklyn. Afterwards we walked to the water and there are some really nice views. Make note, it can be hard to find street parking in this area.

Came here for lunch on a Sunday and it was pretty busy. The line took forever to move, we waited for about 20 minutes before we could place our order. Definitely needs more than just one guy taking the orders. But, the food was enjoyable! My favorite was the brisket burger, so tender and juicy and the buns were crispy which I loved! The Korean ribs were good as well. Potato salad wasn’t for me; I didn’t like the sourness. The mac and cheese was alright, I’ve had better at other places. Overall, a good meal but quite pricey…

I liked it, but didn’t love it. The set up definitely screams Texas BBQ. In short, if you’re in the area and like BBQ, then check this place out, however I wouldn’t go out of my way to come here. I do recommend the potato salad and brisket queso.

Always wanted to go there. Finally went there. The place is big. They have live jazz music on Fridays. This place was packed when we went there. The menu is ok, wish they have more options. Prices are a bit high. Their Mc & cheese is the BEST I've ever had!! Delicious 😋. The Spare ribs are meatier, soft, and flavorful. Cornbread was really good to make sure you ask them to pour some hot honey on it. The Brisket was very soft but kind of bland taste-wise. The service was very slow but the people there are very nice. Definitely a place to try

Stopped off here on holiday from the UK - took the ferry from Seaport to Red Hook - 15 minute walk (would have been shorter had it not been for the insanely hot weather). Be warned - you have to queue - but like all good BBQ institution if you are not queuing then there is probably something off with the food. The food was outstanding, prices per lb - we got the brisket, pulled pork, collard greens and corn bread. My lord that corn bread was insane - buttery almost pudding like - brisket was tender and the pulled pork was melt in the mouth. You do get offered drinks whilst waiting in line. Only gripe is that we got given the wrong drinks and were told that the waiter misheard us but were not offered our actual order despite informing him of the error… not a massive issue but we think it should have been corrected. Great food, plenty of seatinf with a live band at the time (Sunday evening) and easy to get to even from manhattan side.

When you serve meat that is already cooked/smoked, I would not expect a 1.5 hour wait starting just outside the main doors. As I approached the kitchen, it was clear it was not a methodical operation to prepare an order and was definitely contributing to the delays... Besides the service, the brisket was dry today but the beans were amazing. I would come back for that alone if there was a separate line for sides.

Delicious BBQ in Industry City, Brooklyn, NY. The brisket and cornbread were too die for!! So good. The pastrami, thick cut bacon 🥓 was very flavorful but super rich and filling, so please share!! It’s a self-serve place, so if you’re looking for table service you won’t get it. Be the food was very good.

It was our first time here, we came around 3:30pm on a Sunday afternoon in the middle of February thinking it wouldn’t be too busy since we’re inbetween meals. There were maybe about 30 people infront of us and we joined the line that stopped at the door. We’ve had plenty of Texas style BBQ and from experience the line moves fast. However, it was exactly 1 hour until we were able to order. They only had 2 people cashing out and cutting at the same time which explains why it was so slow. At least we got most of the food right away. It was a bit difficult to find street parking since the majority of spaces are truck loading zones or no standing zones. We got multiple things since we were starving by the end of waiting: - Frito pie - surprisingly one of our favourites! - Beef rib - delicious but unfortunately we got a really fatty piece and felt like the $52 for one beef rib was half fat 😢 - Brisket - well cooked, juicy, but kind of bland. You really need the table BBQ sauce to go with it. For 3 slices it was about $48 😩. At least the slices were thick. - Korean sticky ribs - 3 ribs for $16. They were small ribs and I found it way too salty (and I’m usually a salt fiend), but my husband liked it. - Jalapeño cheddar sausage - at first I didn’t like it much but for some reason when it cooled down the flavours came out much more and was great! Good for takeaway. - Cornbread - DELICIOUS. Super moist, not too sweet. They drizzle syrup ontop right before serving it to you. - Mac and cheese - great! - Hometown coleslaw - really bland, not worth getting - Banana cream pudding - not bad, not mind blowing. My husband really liked it though. Overall the food was great but I’m not sure I’d want to wait an hour again for it. I can only imagine what the wait is like in the summer at peak meal times! Maybe a takeaway order next time. There were multiple DoorDash drivers picking up food.

3 sandwiches, 2 small sides and 1 piece of corn bread for $89. For a lunch, this is more than we generally spend. The meats were good the potato salad is made with mashing the potatoes which is just different than what I personally like.

Delicious BBQ!!! Not worth traveling across the city for though. I ordered: The beef rib: delicious, expensive but worth it! Brisket: is the best item on the menu. Especially if you get some burnt ends!! Pork ribs: good, not great. Chicken wings: good, not great. Skippable. Cole slaw: skip it, kinda bland. Corn bread: get the corn bread, don't share it with anyone!!!

So after a morning of Ikea, my husband and I decided to forgo the meatballs and have BBQ instead. My husband said he's been to Homertown before and that the line was a 1.5 hour wait. Naturally, I was excited. We got there on a chilly Friday afternoon and there was no wait. The staff here seems really nice and patient and seem like they won't rush you along if you get to the front and aren't fully sure. I ended up settling on a pulled pork sandwich and a side of mac and cheese. My husband ordered the Korean ribs, brisket, coleslaw and the Vietnamese wings to split. So I have to say the wings were fire but everything else seemed mediocre. In fact, I really hated the mac and cheese. I didn't try my husband's wings and brisket but he said the brisket was also nothing special but the Korean ribs were good. I tried his coleslaw and it was also mediocre. We did order ciders and the dry cider paired well with the salty meal. I do appreciate that they have a station set up that makes packing your unfinished food very convenient, including little sauce cups incase you want to take some sample of their BBQ sauce home with you. Overall, I did give this place 4 stars because of the staff but I would not say that the food is 4 stars. If I had to wait 1.5 hours in line, definitely not worth it.

Hometown BBQ is a great family BBQ joint located in Red Hook. I had read good things about it and thought to finally give it a try. So, one Friday after work I took the ferry from Wall St. to Red Hook/Atlantic Basin (SB 11), and made the short walk from there. I was very surprised when I walked through the door because inside was its own world. The first thing that hits you is the fantastic aromas in the air. You just know there’s some good stuff cooking! And then there’s the music. I’m not exactly sure how to describe it; maybe Dixie? I’m not certain, but the joint was jumpin, that’s for sure. You come in and que up on the left side to place your order. You get your meal on trays and you bring your food to wherever available table you can snag. There are two rooms, the main area and the back. I had the brisket, Korean ribs, Mac and cheese, potato salad, and honey cornbread. The Korean ribs were amazing, and for me, stole the show. The profile was so delectable that I could have easily had only those and a side. Wow, is all I can say. Another surprise was the honey cornbread. I was not expecting them to have such flavor. I make cornbread quite often, and I can say that their version is a home run. Bam; right out of the park! The potato salad was very interesting, as it wasn’t like any that I’ve tasted before. It has a very unique taste and texture. You might not even recognize it as potato salad at first, but you’ll certainly think that it’s delicious. Another ‘wow’. The Mac and cheese has a great crusty topping, and my only regret was having ordered only a small size. Overall, I just loved everything! I was fortunate in the fact that I had a lot of leftovers and I can firmly say that the next day things were even more delicious! Will I go back? Absolutely. The ferry ride is nice, and it’s not terribly far from the port/pier. If you want to try somewhere different I can recommend Hometown without reservations. I hope this review helps.

Probably it is the best BBQ place in NYC. Of course, it is taxes level of BBQ, but the line is insanely long, we arrived around 20 minutes after the restaurant just opened, but still spent 1.5 hours to get 🍗 Recommended pork belly and brisket!

Was so hyped for this place, and while it was good, it wasn't anything out of this world. The beef rib was huge and delicious but the sadly brisket was pretty tough/ dry. The Pork ribs were really good too. The price was crazy high. I know it's NYC, but these prices are higher than famous bbq places down south. For a guide 1/2 lb pork ribs equalled to just 2 ribs. Service was few words and placing meat on the tray, but can't deny how hard these guys work to smoke the meat for hours.

Go there early to avoid long lines especially during weekend lunch times. Favorite was pastrami bacon, beef rib, and cornbread. Italian sausage was not bad, but the didn’t prefer the cheese inside. Cornbread was very moist and tasty, would get again. Coleslaw could be dressed a little more. Brisket was not moist, nor tender and was my least favorite. Would go back if there’s no line, otherwise not worth the wait on a hot summers day.

I just loved the idea of dining to a local place; we really loved the vibe! It’s a self service restaurant where the staff are extremely helpful and friendly even though we were tourists dining for the first time there! I noticed on the board menu that several dishes were written off which meant that they were easily sold out. Tables are on a first come first serve basis and the drinks are sold on the bar. There is a station with several take away boxes which you can use to take out your leftovers!! The food was bursting with flavour; the family found it a bit spicy but to me it was amazing!

Probably the best BBQ in NYC. While a far cry from some of the titans in the South, Hometown deserves credit for its innovative approach to a classic cuisine. The highlights on the menu are the greens, beans and potato salad and their two sauces are excellent. In terms of flavor, Hometown knows what it’s doing. The meat, however, is not quite perfect. The brisket could render the fat more to avoid heavy fatty pieces, and while the smoke on the ribs were good, the flavor was average. If you’re thinking of heading to Red Hook to visit, be prepared to wait at least an hour in line. They will supplement this wait time by taking drink orders in line, or you can walk up to the bar and grab one as well. With occasional live music, and ample space, Hometown certainly has the look and feel of a classic BBQ joint. Worth a visit- if you can make it through the line!

Beef short rib has slight underseasoned crispy crust, while juicy and meaty with a subtle amount of smoke flavor. Brisket (Moist) has a layer of fat in the middle but is a little dry as there is no fat in between intersection of meat. Pork ribs is tender and moist but seasoning has little flavor. Lamb belly is seasoned well with spices but not enough fat to create an explosion of flavor. Overall, the food is delicious but not blown away. Hill Country Barbecue offers better smoked barbecue (personal opinion)

Travelled all the way from Jersey on a hot summer day, and the line was insanely long. The food was pretty average, wasn’t really wow-ed by it. Maybe the long wait and the heat raised my expectations. Overall I don’t think it was really worth it mostly because the seasoning & marinate was not enough— at least for me it wasn’t. Felt like it could’ve been more flavourful. Went during the summer, it was really hot even if you sat indoors. They had live music performing indoors, pretty family friendly spot though.

Heard great reviews about it and made my way to Red Hook, Brooklyn, to see what it was about. Great curb appeal, especially the Halloween decor. It was a festive touch. The atmosphere inside was nice! The workers, cookers, grill men, servers, bar staff, etc., all dope. Expeditious ordering, the line moved quickly, I received my complete order in a timely and friendly manner and left a tip. After which, the grill man even slid a sample of brisket that I ordered - nice touch. It was bussing btw! I thought those bites were indicative of the ½ lb I ordered to go - though sadly, it wasn't. 😩 I'm sad, I really wanted to write alllll about it. I ordered the Brisket, Smoked Turkey, Asian Wings, Potato Salad, Mac & Cheese, & the Chicken Tacos to go - totaled $90. As flavorful as everything was (or was not 🥴), the only thing we'd purchase again is the smoked turkey. I'm not going to completely bash their products. I will say this, I and my family prefer non-mashed Potato Salad... I was so confused 😕. The mac & cheese had to be popped back in the microwave when I got back home. The cheese on top ain't even melt chileeee, but the bottom was burning through the cup. And it needed a little seasoning (and cheese, but that's neither here nor there). The chicken tacos were very tasty, a lot of spice and small - not worth the price tag of $11. The asian wings were also good and very hot. You get 3 whole wings for $15 or 4 for $20 if I recall. These are regular chicken wings if you're interested, not the ones on steroids 🤣 - I would've preferred the ones on steroids for the price. Anywho, the ½lb brisket was overcooked, and the Mr. was very disappointed. So yeah... No. That smoked turkey, though ... EVERYTHING. Try it!

Went for my birthday. Staff was SUPER cool (outside of being charged for water w/ lime) Save the cornbread, every side was mid to bad BUT the brisket and the beef rib were very solid. All at a steep premium. Would go again for free with a group but generally not worth the trip to Red Hook.

This was my third time here and for some reason the wait in line was for 40 minutes (I wanted some BBQ and happened to be in the area so I waited 🤷🏾‍♀️). I got a $22 brisket sandwich that was hard to chew and the meat was not hot. The hometown bbq at industry city has always been good when I've gone! Their food was hot and the brisket tender with the right amount of fat. So i'm giving up on this location 🫤 Every time I come here the brisket dissapoints.

Wait was 20-30 minutes on a Saturday at lunch hour. The good thing about this line is that there’s always enough seating. Warm service at the register. But I honestly feel that the place is a little overhyped. My biggest issue is that everything came out tepid, even the pastrami bacon that’s not ready right away and requires someone to bring to our table. The brisket and the pull pork were surprisingly dry. Pastrami bacon was better with the extra fat. Mac n cheese tasted like boxed food. The highlight was probably the corn bread, which, with the salt flakes and honey butter, was pleasantly succulent.

After having a few real Texas briskets, I had to give this one a try and I must say, it was nowhere near an authentic Texas brisket. I ordered one pound of brisket and got half point, half flat. The point was “okay,” but the flat was really disappointing. The way it had to be sliced already told me it was severely undercooked.

Arrive early! We went right when they opened and had to wait 15-20 mins behind about 10 people in line. A lot of hype here for being the best in the city. I cant confirm or deny yet because I have yet to visit other BBQ joints in NYC. Definitely good vibes and nice atmosphere. But the BBQ doesn't compare to Texas, like not even close. For Brooklyn (or perhaps anywhere outside of Texas that isn't part of the South? Perhaps?) it's decent BBQ. The brisket and pulled pork were actually really good and my favorite. Ribs and rib tips weren't the best. Mac n cheese and corn bread sides were okay. I don't think I'd go out of my way to visit again unless I was making another IKEA run.

The experience was good - with the music, outdoor tables and some nice staff. The food is disappointingly underwhelming. All the food was served cold. The brisket is forgettable without discernible smoky flavor or any flavor. The ribs were slightly better but mostly just salty. The chicken wings were at least spicy. The potato salad should be called/described as mashed potatoes since food is about texture not just flavor and it is mashed. The chili was a bit spicy but otherwise uninteresting. The corn bread is good and except for the way too sweet bacon in it the Bloody Mary is excellent. Wouldn’t spend the money again.

A lot of online reviews raved about this place, and many even mentioned this place can hold its own in places like Texas. Maybe it is just me but I think the brisket is a little too dry, and I normally get better brisket in those Brazilian all you can eat BBQ. The ribs were just okay too, and I get a lot better ribs in a joint in Bayside, Queens. Cornbread was also dry and I believe Outback's cornbread is better. The atmosphere is really nice though. I didnt feel like I was in New York. The price is way too high for the food quality, again this is just my personal opinion. The line goes out of the door for a Sunday afternoon so I would think many people like the place.

I went here December 2024 last year and the food was much better and the brisket had tons of flavor. The meat was very noticeably pink and had salt flakes sprinkled on so each bite was amazing. I went today and the brisket was overcooked to CONGRATULATIONS instead of pink. It was gray literally everywhere and there was no tenderness at all. My girlfriend got sick because of the meat. There was barely any flavor and they usually sprinkle salt flakes onto the meat but they didn’t. Mac and cheese was still good as usual, but the brisket was extremely disappointing.

This place has FALLEN OFF HARD!!!! Had a holiday party catered and WOW! What awful food! The brisket was dry. The chicken had zero flavor, and the coleslaw was mediocre. The big star, however, was the Mac n cheese. What a plastic, velveeta, Sisco systems tray of garbage that was! Wanna know how bad it was? We out left overs from all our parties in the office fridge, they NEVER last more than a day. We still have an entire tray there and it’s been three day! Utterly lazy and disgusting! At $50 per person, this place should be ashamed of itself for having the nerve to serve this garbage! Guess the formula for crap food is Fame+inflation+ lazy= HTBBQ! They’ve always been expensive, but used to be worth it. It’s nice to know I’ll never need to spend that kind of money there again! Cornbread wasn’t bad. NOTE: IF this was strictly the catering menu, that’s no excuse. People have events catered by you because the food they eat when they are regular patrons is so good, they want it catered. Not providing the same level of quality means you’re either too lazy, to apathetic, or to unskilled to serve the same quality to a large group.

We got the brisket, spare ribs, corn bread, and Mac and cheese. The brisket was extremely dry (see the pic!) - it’s hard to overstate how dry it was, and it was pretty bland. The ribs were better, with a nice peppery flavor but nothing too special. The Mac and cheese and corn bread were both pretty good, but again not super memorable. Overall, pretty disappointing given the hype surrounding this place and the 1 hr long wait.

EDIT: Leftovers reheated tasted a bit better than what we had yesterday! Food was mid at best. We ordered the brisket, pulled pork and the kbbq ribs for the meats and for the sides we ordered the potato salad, mac and cheese, coleslaw and the beans. The brisket, we ordered a pound and we got 2 slices of good brisket (top layer in the photo) and the last 4 were very dry. The pulled pork was decent, not much flavor. The kbbq ribs were the best out of the 3,imo. For the sides, the mac and cheese were lacking sauce, but a nice bell pepper taste. Coleslaw was.. coleslaw. The potato salad was a mashed potato type of salad, on the drier side. The beans had a nice unexpected spicy kick to it which was nice. Overall, it was decent bbq, was it worth the $130 and the wait? Not really. We had high expectations since people recommended it to us and we came there on an empty stomach.

I’ll be honest, we had high hopes and large appetites when we arrived here - the vibe is good and we’d just eaten amazing cue at Bark BBQ… but, yeah… Service kinda set the tone - brusque and without any southern charm. Same from the barman. We don’t care if they spit in our face if the food is sublime, but, yeah - “barely mid”. I’ll add that we’re huge BBQ fans and have eaten from some of the South’s best, so this isn’t our first time. Maybe we ordered wrong, but the brisket tacos didn’t hit, the jerk rib tips were nicely cooked but didn’t have much flavour… the sausage was the stand out and we actually enjoyed and slaw was also finished, but lacked bite… the pulled pork was by far the most disappointing - drenched in oil (see photo) and lacking any flavour depth. Probably ate a third of it - after straining off the oil and lathering it in (pretty good) sauces. As I scraped the rest into a takeaway box for our dog I genuinely paused to consider if he would even want it.

I've been coming here for years and have loved it. I've introduced countless friends to this spot. Today was finally the day where the brisket was really bad: cold, tough and low quality brisket taste. After waiting in line for an hour, I expect more. I'm writing a review in the hopes that quality control is improved and this experience can be avoided for others.

This restaurant is a complete waste of money. They overcharge for nothing. My meal consisted of four ribs, a small portion of macaroni and cheese, and a slice of honey cornbread. I didn’t even receive a drink. My meal came to an exorbitant $80 for absolutely nothing. It’s ridiculous that they charged $40 for four ribs. I couldn’t even enjoy my food. To make matters worse, they even gave themselves a tip despite not providing any waiter service. I definitely wouldn’t recommend this place to friends or family.

Atmosphere is great with the live music but I would not return unless the food gets significantly better. We paid $150+ to try everything. To me the pulled pork sandwich and Mac n cheese were decent, but that’s it. Everything else was either too salty, dry, not tasty. Went to the galleries across the street, the smell drew me in. The line was well over 1.5 hours. Many times I thought about quitting but figured it must be that good so I hung in there lol drinks were good. But during such a crazy wait they didn’t offer water or anything. Limited seating along the way. So you’re standing the whole time.

I honestly had a really bad experience here. The burger came out completely cold. We told the waiter about it, and instead of fixing the problem, he said, “You just took too long to come back.” That’s absolutely unacceptable service. We didn’t go anywhere — we were just at the bar for maybe three minutes to grab our drinks. If you serve a cold burger, at least try to fix it — reheat it, replace it, do something. But blaming the guest? That’s just terrible customer service. Second, the BBQ pork ribs were extremely dry and overcooked. They were so tough it was almost impossible to eat them. Honestly, I don’t even understand how that’s possible — pork ribs are fatty, and you have to really mess up to make them this dry. Third, the taco was awful too. It wasn’t even wrapped properly and was also cold, just like the burger. I would really like to draw the owners’ attention to how the staff treats guests. This kind of attitude is absolutely unacceptable and really drives people away. You can’t treat your customers like that and expect them to come back. Overall, this place was a huge disappointment. All three dishes were terrible. The only decent things were the music and the drinks — the beer was fine. I’m really disappointed and feel like I completely wasted my time and money here.

Honestly the worst ribs I’ve ever eaten. I actually barely ate any ribs at all. They were weird colors and mostly just burned skin on bones. Cost me $50 to not eat here. Avoid this place

This place was rated the number one BBQ spot in the area, so we made the trip out from downtown Brooklyn expecting something special. Unfortunately, it ended up being one of the most disappointing BBQ experiences I’ve had. The brisket was shockingly dry, so much so that I didn’t even bother finishing it. The regular spare ribs were not much better. The cornbread was excellent, I’ll give them that, but the mac and cheese was completely forgettable. For brisket, spare ribs, a small mac and cheese, and cornbread, the total came out to 67 dollars. For that price, the quality was nowhere near acceptable. Definitely not worth the trip or the hype.

I'm not exaggerating, this was the single most disappointing meal we had in 2025. Everything was cold. They had just opened, we were in there at 12:30. The bread was soaked with grease. The brisket could've been used as bullet proof vests, absolutely dry and tough. Greens lacked flavor, and the coleslaw was like eating unwashed cut cabbage: tough and gritty. Counter was rude. $130 for 3 small sides, a cornbread, ½lbs of brisket and pulled pork, a bahn mi, and a single drink. I don't waste food, and I never forego leftovers, but we had to throw 75% of it away because it was so bad; it would've felt inhumane to give it away to a homeless person and make them sick, because we felt physically ill for the next hour after only a few bites. Pit masters and owners should be ashamed.
