This Bakery is on of many in Bay Ridge that’s gives a choice of delicious Cakes , cookies and French pastries. They also bake delicious breads from French Bread to to delicious rolls. They also have seating where you can enjoy a morning coffee with baked goods. The staff is always helpful with your visit .

Every place has something it's known for. I'm not sure what Jean Danet's specialty is but I can certainly tell you that they have more to offer than just pastries. If you're in the mood of some coffee, they make a mean Latte and Cappuccino, the small size offers just the right combo of espresso and milk. With that latte you MUST have their APPLE TURNOVER! I've tried picking them up in the afternoon and they were all gone, a common occurrence according to the staff. Should they be out of the turnover, get the APPLE Strudel (huge and not overly sweet like some), but baked to perfection. The next two recommendations I'm particularly proud of sharing because when I "discovered" them I felt I knew something few did. Their PIZZA! I've gone with the square margarita with fresh basil, by the pie because one slice is never enough! And if they don't have one ready, in 15 minutes it's ready for you fresh from their authentic wood burning stove. For desert, seasonally, they offer up Gelato. The real deal. I've tried most of their flavors, and must say their Hazelnut and strawberry flavors are simply awesome! Honorable mention; Butter pecan. The Strawberry Banana Chocolate cake is very tasty and I've heard the cheesecake is wonderful (not a fan of cheesecake so I've never tried). Oh, and let's not forget about their rainbow cookies chocolate croissants (full stop)! Sorry for the long review. Two years worth of tasting to fit into this overdue review.

First time here and probably some of the best cookies that we've tasted! And knowing that they bake French and Italian pastries makes it all worth going back multiple times. We look forward to trying the cakes as well. Great find in Bay ridge Brooklyn. 👍🤗

Jean Danet has the best cakes, pies, pastries and cookies. They even have good coffee, which I get on my way to Weight Watchers, the irony not being lost on me. This is the place I go when my hosts say, "Bring dessert." A word to the wise, on Thanksgiving, shop early!

I have been going to this bakery for many years and love it. I live in Crown Heights Brooklyn and travel all the way there to get their cakes and pastries. I have known the owner and his wife for many years. Such wonderful and nice people. Anyone who has never been there should go and check them out. The cakes and pastries are always fresh.

This is a high quality pastry shop with the highest quality of ingredients at affordable prices. I favor their blueberry crumb pie, its been the same great way its always been, And believe it or not its still the same price as it was 20 years ago, but might have went up only a dollar in comparison for example to fine pizzerias to whereas the pizza pies went up about about 5 dollars or more compared to 20 years ago. Just an example, but almost everything else in this pastry shop as well is about the same affordable price, and ive always gotten very friendly customer service from the workers in my time of shopping there and all the cashier girls are always pleasant and sweet hearted. I was actually there yesterday to pick up some Irish soda bread and i needed 2 of them, and luckily, it just so happens i bought the last 2. So i could have happen to wind up waiting an hour or 2 for a new batch to come out the oven, so i recommend, as i have done in the past, is call first to see if they have and place some on hold for when you arrive to pick up, or if none of what you are looking for is available at the moment, you can place an order and they will have it ready for you for your scheduled pick up time. So place an order now, and stop by soon for a sweet treat to eat!!!

They have the Best Chesecake I have ever gotten!!! And trust me I have gone all over NYC eating cheesecakes. I would like to thank the owner and who ever makes this masterpiece of cheesecake. Also, I would like to volunteer to taste the cheesecakes that they make everyday to make sure that they are at flawless standards. I would like to also volunteer and make the sacrifice to come and get all the cheesecakes that were not sold for the day ( if that's even possible ) since I live like 3 blocks away.

I have been coming to this bakery for many years. My favorite goods here are the croissants, lindzer torts and apple crumble rolls. Everything here is freshly baked and delicious. The service is courteous and fast. They have a small seating area, with table service, and they serve coffee. If you are in Bay Ridge, don't miss this local favorite.

I had ordered a cake called a Bomb for my boyfriend’s birthday. It’s a layered cake consisting of chocolate cake, whipped cream, bananas, strawberries surrounded by dark chocolate and chocolate whipped cream. I posted a picture last week. Not only was it aesthetically pleasing, it was light and airy and not too sweet. A pleasure to the eyes as well as the mouth! I also purchased a slice of chocolate blackout cake and assorted cookies. This was my first time at Jean Danet and definitely won’t be my last!!

I lived in Bay Ridge in the 1990's. I would bring the Cheese Danish & Apple Strudel whenever I visited someone's home. Everybody loved it! I visited Bklyn this past week. I was pleased, and not shocked, to see they were still there. These are must try items!

Jean Danet is hands down the best bakery in Brooklyn! Their pastries are incredible, flaky, buttery, and always fresh. The cakes are just as amazing, light, and flavorful with the perfect amount of sweetness. Whether you're in the mood for a pastry or a special cake, they never disappoint. I got my wife's birthday cake here and got an inscription "Happy Birthday Baby Cakes" plus a bunch of italian cookies. I have to say it's the best tasting cakes I have had in a very long time. (Wish I could reverse engineer a cake to get this recipe.) I really enjoyed the service as well. Young lady that was there was very easy to talk to and clearly someone is doing something right with customer service. I have had some disappointing experiences since moving here but this one was great and memorable since it's our first birthday in our spot. Thank you and Blessings on you guys for 2024! Definitely my new favourite cake shop in Bay ridge. I highly recommend them. 👍🏾

A not so hidden gem in Bay Ridge. Get a selection of éclairs, tarts and cheescakes. But start with a crispy pizza or a Panini. Or just sit and chill with a cup of coffee.

The products taste very good.

A bakery, otherwise known for their pizza. They also offer bottled beers and house wine with that. The desserts are really great too, which in fact is the main attraction. You can also pick up fresh bread here in the morning. Definitely make it a destination, either for your baked goods, or lunch.

Best sweets. THE BEST PIZZA IN THE WORLD. Well, it was a long time ago. No more pizza there, but the Italian pastry is still very good.

They have an excellent strawberry cheesecake, we also used them to make custom cakes. Great people to work with.

Used to be great, fresh pastries, great croissants but recently have gone down. Very sad that there pastries do not taste as good as they used to, I do not know why...

Disappointed..Bakery not as good as it used to be or i am just used to Tasty Bakery in Dyker Heights that has much better selection and taste..

No longer sells pizza!!! 😡 Best cheesecake 😍 in the area but the pieces are too small.🙁 They only serve hot coffee & water. There are tables to sit & eat but they do not have forks or spoons to eat with.😠 Homemade gelato wasn't good. Threw it away. 🙁

This place is French the way Wilco is a hip hop band, but whatever, the only thing you need to know is that at least for meals, you should stick with the pizza - which is what my rating is based on - because it's really great and a lot of the other stuff is ordinary. (People seem to love their desserts, and I haven't tried any of those yet.). I assume maybe the calzones are good because they've got that fancy brick oven situation. But seriously, if you're here for lunch or dinner, stick to the pizza, which is one of the best even in a neighborhood saturated with pizza, and be discerning about everything else.

Biscuits/cookies look better than they taste but overall decent. Service is good and so is the cappuccino. Need to try their cheesecake now !

You get what you get and you don’t be upset is what I think when I get cakes here. It’s local, it’s affordable, and they are nice. The cake is not too bad either.

If you like Cream Puffs they have the best! Filled with delicious french cream. The cheese cake is very good also, I'm not a fan of their pastries and pies are just ok.

Very dry pastries. .stiff cakes , bland danish ..like cardboard or they keep old pastries around..never had pizza since there is Ginos and Peppinos nearby who are the best..pass on Jean Danet..2 points for decor because it does look nice ..although very small and but food is lacking

The store is nice and clean. The products not so great, but when there is a birthday you forgot and you need a last minute cake, you can buy it here.

I have been coming here for many, many years, even before the current owner. I went in to buy cannolis and rainbow cookies to take to a friend's house (both of which I have purchased here before). What a disappointment! The cookies were a bit dry, and the cannolis were not filled all the way through, just cannoli cream at both ends and an empty shell in the middle! What is going on here! I know for a fact that you can do better because you have in the past!

Used to like this pastry shop. Their prices are really ridiculous now. The quality of their products have not been up to par in a while. I ordered a latte with regular whole milk but got oat milk - horrible. The chocolate croissant I got was stale and tasted weird. Both were trashed. Waste of my money. Not going back to this establishment.

I ordered a birthday cake for my daughter, but it was mostly cream and had very little sponge. However, it had a lot of strawberries and was filling. I recommend it to people who love cream and strawberries. $36 for this is too much.

Don't go for the pastries, the few i tried were completely mediocre. Maybe the pizza is worth it, I'll try that one day. No idea why it's called Jean Danet, it's clearly Italian-centric, not French. Cannoli, marzipan, bready not flaky croissants...

I just walked in got completely ignored by multiple staff members just standing there. The next customer had to ask if they’re open or closed before getting any help. I walked out without getting any serves.

Really rude staff. I grew up in the neighborhood and used to love this place but it has gone downhill.

Went in to grab a quick piece of cake. Got it back home and it was dry as can be. Pure sawdust. Frosting fell apart as well. Little to no taste. Also woke up in the morning and felt quite sick and I only had 3 bites of it. Would not recommend. Nice setup in their shop though.

I spent my money for something not worth it. Prices were good and cheap but you get what you pay for. It’s frozen and old and dry. It honestly went to waste. I guess my garbage got some dessert tonight.

I canceled my cupcakes order during the pandemic, paid in full by cash, they told me I can't have my refund but gave me store credit, now they don't recognize the receipt I brought and said they don't have record, my receipt should have said paid in full, am I suppose to teach you what to write on your receipt?? I want to support locals but this is what I get??!!

We spent $40 on some strudels and they were not fresh. Both the apple and cheese did not taste good. We also got biscotti snd cookies and they were very hard and dry.

I bought seven pastries and that was a waste of money , $33. It’s nothing compare to I bought them for my husband’s birthday and each guest tried one small piece. The rest was left on their plates. I felt so uncomfortable when none of my guests liked that piece of……. Don’t go to this bakery. what you buy is not a cake or pastry you’re buying just sweet mass that has absolutely no taste. Don’t even know why Management doesn’t do anything about this. Have they ever tried what they are selling to people? Shame on you bakery.

Strawberry shortcake had no filling and the whipped cream has a weird plastic taste. The strawberries were bruised and the place is dirty.

The customer service was very poor. And then the older female said when I came out the bathroom 🚻 that I wasn't supposed to use their bathroom. After I'm a paying customer who sat their for coffee and apple pie with my mom. Very rude and not friendly at all.

I came in during the afternoon time. I ordered a coffee and it wasn’t made the way I asked for, I let it go thinking that they changed the taste. Later that evening I thought i’d give the pastry shop a try, but I had a worse experience. I came to place my order and there were two young lady’s behind the counter that were talking and the one with the glasses was extremely rude and unprofessional, she should not be working in the service industry. Her attitude was so bad. She was finding any way not be at the register and to not help me out, I come here often whenever I visit NYC and this is the third time. I let it go for the first two time and nothing has changed, I wouldn’t recommend this place at all

I recently had my wedding at Bay Ridge Manor and was told Jean Danet provides the wedding cake. So I went to the bakery to show them what I wanted the cake to look like and was told that it could be done. I also placed an order for cookies for the favors and that was a huge issue in itself. Once the cake was rolled out for my husband and I to cut, I saw that they did not do what I wanted and the same thing for the cookies. I sent them a picture and was told it could be done and just like the cake, they did what they wanted. I would not recommend this bakery at all.

I have no idea what happened to this place. Got a large order of pastries for people visiting from out of state. It has been a long time since I have been to Jean Danet . They USED to be so good! I love pastries, so I was thrilled when my husband came home with a box of assorted cakes and a few black-and-white cookies, etc.. So last night I took a little of this and a little of that and half a black-and-white cookie. First, I took a bite of the chocolate cake with frosting and it didn’t taste like chocolate! The cake tasted weird to me. Not bad, but weird and the frosting tasted like frosting with no flavor. Then I went onto the carrot cake with the same results. I love carrot cake but if I didn’t know that he bought carrot cake I never would’ve thought this was carrot cake. Lastly, I went For the black-and-white cookie and without exaggeration, it was the worst black-and-white cookie I have ever had in my life. It wasn’t spit out bad, but it was again pretty tasteless and not worth eating. Everything on my plate went in the garbage and whatever was left in the box went in the garbage. Shame on this bakery for turning out such subpar baked goods! I would never, ever consider going back there again. There are too many good bakeries in Bay Ridge to waste your money at this place.

This bakery has been going downhill for a while now. The pastries are often stale, yet the prices keep getting higher, which makes no sense for the quality they’re offering. I used to come here because they had a nice variety of pastries, even though the man who sometimes works there can be quite rude. But today was the final straw for me! .I came in this morning to get a box of assorted pastries. The woman working, probably in her mid-40s, was extremely slow and seemed confused the entire time. I was literally the only customer in the shop, yet it still took forever. I tried to be patient because I understand everyone has off days, but I wasn’t asking for half the bakery , just a simple selection.! At the end, I asked for two extra croissants and she charged me for them. When I got home, guess what? The croissants weren’t even in the box. So not only is the service slow, but they’re also charging customers for items they don’t even give them. And of course, mistakes like that never happen in the customer’s favor. Were they expecting me to go back in the rain just for two croissants? To make matters worse, most of the pastries I brought home weren’t even fresh. The place wasn’t busy at all, so there’s really no excuse for such poor service… That was the last time I’ll spend money here. Unless they seriously improve both their service and quality, I wouldn’t be surprised if this once-decent bakery eventually ends up closing.

Bought 3 different pastries including a cake slice and muffin and all were extremely stale. Even after putting in the oven the cake slice was frozen inside. I understand things may not move fast, but as a fresh bakery with higher end cake and pastry costs, customers should be given fresh items.

I am very upset with the cake I ordered. It was a cake for my baby's first tooth and it was something like a lasting memory that's why I am disappointed. First of all, the letter on the cake ruined the cake's decoration I tryed to fix it with a spoon. Second, I ordered something in the name of my baby and they wrote the name wrong. The name should've been Aila.

I’ve been coming to Jean Danat Since they first opened in the late 70’s. They have always been my favorite bakery especially after tasting their chocolate impossible cake. That is until today. I purchased 3 pastry’s and after biting into the fist I could tell the case was so stale. This should never have been sold. I understand that due to the economy products don’t move as quickly as they used to but this cake had to be at least 3 days old and to charge the full price of 5.00 each after they know they’re selling days old baked goods is shameful.

Bought the oreo Cake Slice, Pina colada cake slice, it was tasteless and dry, nothing like oreo cake, they just put the oreo cookie on top of it and call it oreo cake. Waste of time and money.
