Opinions de Koo Koo Chicken Brooklyn
Amazing authentic Malaysian food - my top picks are definitely the hainanese chicken rice, the penang hokkien mee (I'm from Penang myself and can attest to its quality!) and nasi lemak!
Very good food. The owner is there everyday to make sure things run smoothly and customers are happy. The only complaint is the place is a bit small.
Good food and fast service.
Food reminded me of the street food I had in Kuala Lumpur. Hainanese chicken, roti canai, bak kut teh and grilled fish in banana leaves were on point.
Passed by yesterday and decided to try their pad thai. The woman was very friendly. The dish was really good. I'll be going back there again.
They did a good job on the chicken wings, fired rice and noodles. My wife and baby love them. Keep up the good work guys.
Clean and great service. The food came out really quick. The roti and curry chicken was amazing.
Authentic, fresh and delicious Malaysian food. Our go to place for lunch/dinner.
Very aunthentic Malaysian cuisine. Not many seatings. Really highly recommended for those who like Malaysian cuisine.
Delicious food and great service! The best chicken in town. Highly recommend for lunch or dinner!
4.5 stars. Cashier lady was very sweet and kind. Food was good not great...The dark meat of the Hainan chicken was very soft and juicy. The white meat was overcooked. Definitely not as tasty and soft as Nyona back in the early 2000s. I also ordered the beef chow fun with egg sauce. I think the beef would taste better if stirred fried with the chow fun. Malaysian milk tea was on point. Pretty good! Okra and shrimp was tasty as well with some ground pork. Overall a yummy meal .
I ordered delivery and everything we got was amazing! It was the best food I've had in a while. $$Roti$$- chewy, flaky, sweet, flat bread with luxurious and silky pork stew for dipping $$Malaysian spare ribs$$- crispy, spiced pork ribs with sweet chili sauce $$Pulut hitam$$ - broken grains of black rice in creamy coconut milk The service was kind as well. Can't wait to have the leftovers and go back for more ☺️
We drove by this restaurant purly by accident and thought to try it. Right before we walk it, we googled the review and it was 4.5 stars so we we're like great! We ordered the typical Hainese Chicken with Rice, Curry Fish Head Rice Noodles Soup and the ABC ice for dessert. The rice in the Hainese chicken was AMAZING! It was nothing we've had in other Malaysian restaurant. If you like garlic, you are on for a treat while this rice explodes with garlic flavor. The chicken is made perfectly with the sauce that is matched made in heaven. You have to get the condiments tray where the chili sauce for the chicken is in there so you get more than typical tray. It is Tangier that typical which made my mouth dance with joy. The curry is just spicy enough to thicker than a typical soup. It's wonderful with flavour. The ABC shaved ice is wonderful for the hot summer weather. It has red beans, corn kennels, jelly, peanuts and grass jelly embedded under the shaved ice. Overall, we love the food experience and highly recommend this place and will be returning with friends and family.
Owner is a great guy who delivers great tastes in unassuming but proud dishes with plates that have good portions and full of flavor. Best dishes, Malaysian spare ribs, seafood Tom yum noodle soup, sizzling beef cubes, and od course the Roti.
Food is pretty good for the most part. Tried majority of their dishes and my faves are the Indian Mee goreng and the first veggie option(ong-choy). Service is typical Asian food service. Bring you the food and don't bother you unless you ask. Which is fine at it's price point.
Me and my boyfriend loves coming here religiously. Very delicious Malaysian food and fast service. Their roti starter is sooo good. Lychee drink is a must try!
Great food all the time, whether ordering in the restaurant or for delivery. Nice and friendly service as well. I never ordered anything that wasn't good. Their roti canai is authentic and delicious, all freshly made. I like their Hainanese chicken, Nasi lemak, and curry.
The taro bowl, Sarang Burang, is so good. Small menu but anything I order is always great. Ate here 6 times this month with friends and family and not planning to stop!
The best Malaysian food I've ever tasted. Waiting staff is very nice and surprisingly prices are very cheap. All in all, it was a great experience.
The food was delicious, the owner was cool as fvck. Had the pattaya chicken, papaya salad, roti, the koo koo chicken, and the spare ribs. Pattaya chicken: perfectly cooked, drinkable sauce, shallots and red pepper🙌. Papaya salad: long threads of papaya, accompanied by ripe mango, shrimps, and a lovely drinkable sauce. Roti Telur: lol, lmao. Perfect just order it. The koo koo chicken: large chucks of beautifully fried chicken with a delicious sweet chili sauce👌. Spare ribs: crispy, chewy, savory goodness. Please don’t change.
Wonderful cuisine! Though I have never eaten in the restaurant, their takeout food never disappoints. The Curry chicken and roti canai are my favorites.
A nice place to eat Malaysian food in Brooklyn. The food is so delicious, especially the roti. And the curry is just right and tasty for me.
Walked in randomly, ate in twice in the mid-afternoon. Thin, crisy roti canai. Everything on the nasi lemak platter was fresh and flavorful. Nice people and good wifi!
Love this place. The owner lady is super cool. Remembers my take out order and always gives me a nice smile. Take out orders are quick and easy. Thank you mama. I highly recommend this Malaysian spot.
We highly recommend, tasty food, friendly service, nice place hot green tea on a cold day to welcome revelation !!!
Koo Koo chicken is a Malaysian restaurant on the 86th Street and 17th Ave. They have a great menu for vegan and meat lovers. The steed chicken and their chicken curry is delicious. Also, the Malaysian local food roti telur and roti canai are being served here. The food was tasty n worth a try! Also the ambience was good and great service from the employees. For quick note: they accept cards for purchase above $20 only.
Ive never tried Malaysian food before but when I came here I loved it so much! The roti canai was so good, I absolutely loved the texture of the roti. The sauce that came with the kebabs was so good too! The staff were also lovely and our plates and tea cups came warm which was a very nice touch ^_^
The food was nothing short of Delectable.. We absolutely loved it.. Def a new favorite.. Decor is lacking and place is very small. Service although very good can seems like it can be an issue if they get super busy, they were almost full and had only 1 waiter. However he was very nice and recommended some great dishes being it was our 1st time there.
Recently noticed this newly opened Malaysian restaurant so I stopped by with my mom and girlfriend. First thing to notice is that the store is very bright with good lighting. The food was flavorful and the portion size was decent. It wasn't expensive either! We ordered quite a few items and the bill only came out to a hair over $60 including tip. The workers were very polite and attentive. I definitely recommend this place!
Always wanted to try this place. Not disappointed. The food was great and not overly priced. Portions were just right not too much not too little. Of course being a Malaysian I would love a taste of home every now and then and Koo Koo Chicken doesn't disappoint. Of course it's not exactly the same as what I am accustomed to but it's pretty close. Highly recommend.
I love this place! The staff are very nice and kind. The place is very clean. The waiter cleans the dishes/utensils for you. My go-to's are the pineapple fried rice, satay chicken, and roti canal!
Amazing food with reasonable price. Must try the chicken. it is very good with the sauce.
First time here. Food was good. Can't wait to try more dishes next time around. Very promising. 12/26/24: Dined here a few more times. Consistent food, good quality and taste great through Covid. They ended up building partitions for dining in. Very clean restaurant overall. Bathroom is well kept. Floors are not greasy and slippery. They also clean the plates and utensils with hot water right in front of you. Let’s talk about the food. 100% comfort food for us during a streak of cold weather. I left with my belly way too full, cannot stop eating. I hope this place stays open. It’s a small family run Business, manager is very friendly. 01/08/2026: This place remains the best Malaysian in Brooklyn. Possibly NYC. Service is still top notch. The guy waiter works ALL the tables. Owner, the boss, head honcho, oversees everything but remains so chill and welcoming. Our family loves this place. Food, quality, cleanliness is CONSISTENT. There is so much to eat, we always end up ordering way too much. TBH intentional.. b/c we like to save it for next day. This place…. Also makes the best sweet and sour chicken dish. The chicken is not chewy or dried up like the take out places. Recently found out they have desserts too. I will make sure to order a nice dessert to complement the meal afterwards. Craving this at 8am while writing this review. Wish this place a wonderful and prosperous 2026. A staple in Bensonhurst
Idk how this place is only rated 4.1 stars. This restaurant is small and quiet, but has absolutely brilliant food and pretty good and fast service.
Solid spot that serves great dishes with great pride and service. The prices are very reasonable and I will most definitely be back. I appreciate the the divider tables with barriers and I feel it makes the space more comfortable than before. Do make reservations if you plan to come and do not want to wait. We ordered other dishes, but could not wait to eat. The roti canai, beef skewers, Hainanese chicken, curry chicken, nasi lemak should not be slept on!
Came here a few times and would keep coming. Food comes pretty fast and service is pretty good. I love their beef chow fun and sarang burung. I always order their lychee drink! Portions are pretty good, only complaint is that the seats and tables are kinda tight. It’s a pretty small restaurant.
ordered hainanese chicken, roti canai & a large hainanese rice. everything is awesome and tasty but i just think the rice isn’t as good as nyonyas rice, just a bit too garlicky.
I really like their hainanese chicken... the cha kuew teu noodles were nice n springy but needed a bit more flavor.. curry fish head noodle broth was good... coming back to try some other stuff
Food was good. Eating in was a good experience. However they do get busy in regards to take out
This is the best food I’ve tried , more originality. The environment is nice and clean. I had the roti Canai and the hainanese chicken , the flavor and the sauce is good but the portion of the chicken is a little less . I gag the 1/4 size but missing the drumstick. This is why only 4 star. Next time I’ll pay more for the full portion.
The food is good here. The food comes out quick. The place is not that big. They have a decent amount of seats. it does get hard to move between tables if you have to use the bathroom or when leaving because of the seating arraignment. The place does get busy. Their menu is not that big. They have one unisex bathroom.
There isn't much Malaysia fare around this neighborhood. I definitely prefer here over PappaRich, which is more pricey. It's also one of the more cozy restaurants you can dine in.
A bit smaller portions even for takeout/pickup, but tasty and spicy. Their Pad Thai is way more spicy than a lot of the hipster non-authentic "Thai" places that tend to put too much sweet. Hainan chicken and rice is good, they tend to take out most bones and do give a good ratio of skin and meat. Prices of course went up like most places have, service is quick and friendly. Place is a bit small, no parking lot, but there is usually enough street parking.
Dined in on Saturday during lunchtime around 12:30, got a table right away. no waiting but the place was full. The food was very good, service was a bit slow, but there was only 1 waiter. Looking at the old photos they lost 3 tables when they put in the partitions. Overall good experience, will come back for takeout or dine in. Hopefully its not too crowded.
solid food, very flavorful. prices are affordable, portions are enough to keep you full and probably the best day. only thing is that the place is not the cleanliness esp the bathroom
The flavor is the food is a bit on the sour side. The curry there is a bit mild, I prefer it more spicy. The price is amazing for the food they have. I would recommend this place. The service there is 5 Stars! The Waiter there cares about you. The atmosphere there is cozy and comfortable. They play some good music as well.
Pretty authentic I would say but portion is much smaller compared to other Malaysian restaurants. Food sometimes is a hit or a miss with saltiness.
great price, delicious food, highly recommend. came here as a party of 5 on a saturday night. they weren’t too busy, and we were well-tended to, but they used quite a lot of MSG in their dishes. ordered the hainanese chicken (half), curry fish head, roti, vegetable dishes and beef chow fun. the chicken was mid— its not bad, i’ve just had better; but at least it satisfied my craving for hainanese chicken. roti was amazing— how can u go wrong. but the curry fish head by farrr was my fav dish. sauce was amazing, fish was super flavorful and tender, and there were plenty of vegetables in the dish too. would come again but we requested no MSG in the dishes bc some in our party are allergic and they were not feeling well afterwards 🥲
Visited recently on a Saturday evening around 7pm. We had made a reservation earlier in the day. Ordered several dishes and all were delicious. But the biggest hits were the roti tissue, fish head curry and oatmeal shrimp. We plan to introduce friends to the restaurant.
First time here. Ordered pad thai with shrimp, naan, and a malaysian iced milk tea. Told the waiter to have less sugar for the ice tea but i guess he didn't pay attention and turned out to be one of the sweetest ice milk tea I've ever had in my life. The pad thai on the other hand was very authentic and naan was excellent.
I think it was overall okay. As a Malaysian, I do have high standards and can be critical for our food but I also recognise that it’s not easy to master all the great Malaysian food. The roti canai was what I would expect. The coconut rice from the nasi lemak was fragrant, the sambal was good (could be a little more spicy), the achar could come with a little more variety (aside from pineapples). The dry wanton noodles had good noodles but the sauce and the soup was a little lacking in richness of flavors, the wonton was much bigger than the size of what you would typically see in Malaysia.
Great food! Ambiance is lack luster. A bit pricey but big portions for sharing.
Food was good, got the taro nest, chicken, curry beef, pancake. Serve was nice. It was a bit hot inside the restaurant, didn't feel like AC was on. Price was a bit high for a small restaurant. Overall good.
Kookoo chicken offers typical Malaysian fare. The portions sizes are smaller than expected especially for the price. The Hainan chicken was good, the spicy sauce was probably my favorite part of the entire meal. The fried taro was subpar - not as crispy as I would’ve liked. Since this is one of the only Malaysian spots left in this area of Brooklyn, it will suffice. The service is not great. I understand that everyone is understaffed but the waiter would take away 1 or 2 plates and not come back until we waved him down again. We were trying to clear the table to have cake and get all the dishes off the table, not good service at all. The restaurant is on the smaller side and with the covid compartment / plastic rooms inside, it’s even more cramped. We had a larger party and there was just enough room to barely accommodate 10 people. Anything more, you should probably go somewhere else.
Popular spot for flavorful, crispy fried chicken and tasty Korean-inspired dishes. Known for its fresh ingredients and bold flavors, the menu offers a variety of chicken options, from classic fried to saucy, spicy, and sweet-glazed styles. Sides like fries, coleslaw, and rice complement the meals perfectly. The casual, clean setting and friendly staff make it a great choice for both dine-in and takeout. Portions are generous, prices are reasonable, and the food is consistently delicious. Koo Koo Chicken is a go-to place for anyone craving satisfying comfort food with a Korean twist.
Someone mentioned about this place on a facebook community group and always wanted to try it out myself. The menu is not expensive compare to Manhattan and the restaurant pride itself for serving comfort food from Malaysia. The chicken rice was not bad but the penang char kueh teow is a pass . You can substitute the usual wide flat noodle used for this iconic dish with pad thai noodle but the flavours were total lacking. Its a no bueno to be honest. One thing I do like about this place and was surprised by it was the server came with ur plates and cutleries in a hot bath before placing it on your table (very common practise in most cantonese restaurant but its always do it yourself).
I wasn't impressed with this restaurant.. the food was okay but a little sloppily put together and Bland. The process of ordering was Todd. If you didn't speak Chinese it was much more difficult to order there. And the place is very tight with tables. And the price wasn't anything fantastic
Food is good but delivery portion is not worth the price. 14-15 dollar for delivery and they don't even fill up your rice all the way and they give you like 4 piece of chicken
Overall food was ok. What they can improve on is customer acknowledgement. We were sat down but the waiter took the order of another table that sat down after us. Even after we were looking up and around for someone to catch our eyes, nobody respond. The staff continued to do their own thing. One lady saw me but just continued to wipe down the bowls. After a good 10 minutes of being ignored, I eventually resorted to rising my hand like I was in second grade and call out for someone to take our order.
Food was good, unfortunately service, horrible. Went there with my friends, not even 1 hour yet and waiter says you only have 15min left when table next to us, was empty and no one waiting to be seated. Definitely not a place to meet up with friends if planning more than just eat and go.
This place has really gone downhill since COVID. I visited this place many times Pre COVID for both takeout & dine in and the experience was fine. Post COVID their food seems to have gotten more oily, prices are much higher, portions are smaller, and the cashier lady's service is terrible. I asked for some sambal on a $70+ take out order and the lady gives a long speech about how none of the dishes in the order are should come with sambal, but will provide this time as a "favor". Every other Malaysian restaurant I've been to wouldn't even bat an eye if asked to add this condiment. Only come here if you are really really craving Malaysian immediately.
Used to come here often but place has gotten worse and worse as their business has gotten better. The veggies and chicken came out in less that 2 min, it’s safe to say that their most popular dishes are not made to order. When we left our table wasn’t tended to once, dirty empty plates, napkins, no water refills were made. We left 15% and they demanded more tip. Like…really. They said if u can’t leave more tip, don’t come back next time. Mind blown.
FYI, One hour eating time!! The guy waiter was not very welcoming. My table of 5 sat down and I wanted to order some appetizers since my husband was looking for parking. I was told that to order together cause there’s a one hour eating limit. Why?? There’s not a single person in that restaurant. The layout of the restaurant is still Covid like with each table with a plastic barrier around it making the space very tight and uncomfortable to sit. Food was fine, the chicken oil rice was a bit hard and old tasting so I would skip that. The guy waiter looks like he hated his job, not a bye thanks for coming when we left…lol. Place just looks sad in general, I would skip. Go to Makan on avenue U, the waitresses there are way livelier
Food is very average and tasteless, left 12.5% tips and the rude waitress come back demanding 15% tips. Not coming back.
Very rude staff, refused to take our reservation. When we got there, there were 2 available tables but did not sit us down because they are “not available” never attempting to go back again.
Very bad customer service.. I used to come for the good food even if the service wasn’t that great but the food now wasn’t great either.. you will only get better service if you know the owner .. the owner will personally make you this Roti Tissue and I’ve never see the server come back even once to refill the water or check on the table. Never again!!
Great food especially the nasi lamek dish. Everything was pleasant until the end when the bill came. I paid about 10% tip on top of the bill. The waiter was not pleasant with this and kept pushing for a 18%, which was stated on the bill. Really disappointed with this type of service. This is especially rude if another party is present.
ZERO STAR IF I COULD!!! Went in to have lunch with family yesterday. Food was good and service was ok. Paid the bill with CASH and an adequate tips. Walked out and the waiter ran out after us and said we didn’t pay enough tips!! According to the waiter, we were $2 short on tips!!! When did tips become a MANDATORY OR SET AMOUNT??? Well because of that $2, we will NOT go back ever again!!!
Not impress. And customer service not so good. They only wanted to take your money and they’re slow. Not LGBTQ friendly. People talks about you. Koo koo chicken owner doesn’t care about the sloppiness but as always will leave a comment saying how it’s a mistake and it’ll improve. You guys should know before opening a restaurant to sell food zero star lol
Do not order delivery here, you might go hungry. This has happened enough times to us that we finally gave up being a customer. We’d place an order and it gets delayed to the point where the it is cancelled. Several times the delay was so bad we had to go out and buy pizza nearby. Don’t offer delivery service if you are unable to keep up.
Food was good .. two waiters..The older gentleman is very friendly . The other guy has bad attitude , angry face and he ran after us for extra dollar tip . Gave him $5 he ask us to give him $6 . WTH .. for $1 you lost a customer
Bug with found at the bottom of my boyfriend’s rice box. Left a yelp review and owner wanted to deny their mistake that it was highly unlikely to happen because of their cleanliness. Just needed to share with my google reviewers as well for food and service like this restaurant’s. I would stay away. Owner suggested Malaysians by Bensonhurst area to me like I didn’t know but I guess start going to Nyonya. I have shared pictures on my yelp review if anyone would like to see. I needed to delete that picture off my camera roll because it was just plain disgusting to have.
‼️BE CAUTIOUS WHEN EATING HERE! YOU WILL BE HARASSED MULTIPLE TIMES FOR MORE TIP!!! This restaurant and their waiters will actively target and harass Americans and non-primarily Asian speakers for more tip! We are Asian Americans but primarily speak English. Me and my daughter ate here for casual lunch Sunday August 20th. 🚨The male waiter was extremely rude, coming back twice pointing at the “SUGGESTED 18% or 25% tip” on the bill and how I must give him more tip ($7 more than the standard 15% we originally gave). He only backed off and let us leave the restaurant when I harshly told him “NO” for the 3rd time! Never been so embarrassed by a insistent and selfish waiter feeling like he’s entitled to a larger tip when we are only 2 people who got 2 dishes with an appetizer who paid the standard 15% tip and compared to the big family groups of 6+ people across from us who got 7+ dishes and only tipped $10. For the food and drinks: Every other Asian Speaking table was bought a carafe of hot tea and table side cleaned chopsticks, we were thrown 2 glasses of cold sink water with forks and not given tea like we expected like every other customer there. Curry Beef Brisket Over Rice was barely edible, 3 pieces of beef and the rest were all veins and hard tendons. We sat there for 15 minutes because I wasn’t feeling well and hardly ate the 2 dishes we ordered so we asked for 2 take out containers and were given 2 small cheap plastic ones that couldn’t hold the food but all the other tables with leftovers got good quality large plastic take out containers. Rule to the restaurant: Don’t target and harass small groups of people or any costumers for an inflated “suggested tip”. Just make it a noted required tip percentage for every table then we wouldn’t have come here and had such a bad experience. 🚨 There are many other reviews to this restaurant with similar experiences to us told to never come back by the waiters if they don’t tip the suggested 18% or 25% so please don’t go here unless you want to be targeted and harassed multiple times to pay the inflated tip percents!
We had a terrible experience. We often order takeout, but this was our first time dining in. We needed abit more time to decide on our order, but the waiter told us there was a time limit for dining in. this made us feel very uncomfortable as if we were being rushed to finish and leave. Not coming back.
Very friendly staff. They made an effort make me comfortable. The service was good and the food was ok, but I was not very impressed with the quality of the rice. I prefer a sticky rice, and their rice was not of the better quality that I am use to. Their satay chicken skewers are tasty- but very heavy handed with the salt, even before I dipped in the peanut sauce. The front cubicle was very cold due to being very close to the main door, which opened directly to the cold weather. I asked to be seated in a warmer place. Their prices are fair, and the portion sizes are acceptable. I recommend giving this restaurant a try.
The food is decent, but the service is extremely disappointing. I’ve been here twice now, and both times my group of 5 was restricted to just 1 hour at our table—even though the restaurant was nearly empty, with only one other table occupied. It feels unreasonable and unwelcoming, and it completely ruins the dining experience.
