Opinions de Faso's Ristorante Buffalo
A unique Italian restaurant on Niagara Street. A wide variety of specialties made of the highest quality and in substantial portions. Limited parking in the adjacent lot with street parking also available. Great atmosphere.
Faso's is quickly becoming my special, secret spot I visit for a culinary pick-me-up. It's a total hole in the wall, with relatively inexpensive, excellent Italian-American food they've been serving for more decades than I've been alive (I'm 43) by real, down to earth people that aren't going to kiss your butt. The decor inside is outrageously tacky & unique (think lit up Xmas decorations all year round, pictures of Italy, pics of Jesus and the Virgin Mary...) Remember to bring quarters for their vintage jukebox, shut the front door tightly behind you otherwise the broken alarm quietly buzzed & order a bottle of wine bc the service is very slow, you'll have to time to sober up... Patience is all part of the experience! Solo, with a date, with your family... Faso's is the coolest place in BlackRock, hands down.
I ordered takeout but I had to go to the restaurant to do it because all I got was a recorded message when I tried to call. The very sweet, little old Italian woman said it was just she and her husband working so she couldn't answer the phone. The place is decorated for Christmas with a very Italian feel. It was worth the wait because the food was delicious. I ordered the Sicilian Eggplant Parm which is different than regular eggplant parm. It had little to no breading but still very good. It came with spaghetti and I ordered two meatballs to go with it. They were delicious and so was the sauce.
THIS PLACE IS A HIDDEN GEM! the food is amazing, atmosphere is right out of a christmas movie and the owner is the sweetest woman. makes all the food from scratch. a must visit if youre in buffalo
This is a mom and pop restaurant that has been around for a long time. It's not for everyone but it's definitely for anyone who loves authentic Italian food. This is your Nonna and Nonno's Sunday dinners and any other meal you could imagine. The decor is one of a kind and your eyes will wander the rooms until your food arrives at which time you will promptly forget it because the food is to die for. I cannot recommend this spot enough - ya it's a bit rough around the edges but when it's gone there won't be another one like it.
I haven’t been here since I was a child living in riverside on East Street. I recently moved back downtown, and I searched for this place that I remember and thankfully it was still there!! I think the decor is amazing and they’ve definitely added more. The owner was very lovely on the phone and even better in person when i came to pick up my food. The garlic knots were everything I remember and more, and the gnocchi was top notch. If you’re in Buffalo looking for a good place to eat this is definitely your spot Also PSA I added my own parmesan
Amazing little amazing little find. Got to meet the owner as well. HE WAS STILL WORKING THE BAR!! been open for 43 years. Eclectic and very special for sure. Food has huge portions. The couple that was in dining already couldn't say anything bad about the place. I got a fish fry dinner to go for $12.95 plus tax in the service with amazing.
I arrived at a repurposed house claiming to be the best. Walking in I was overwhelmed with the decor, no photos will capture the scope of it. Slightly wary, I ordered what I can say is one of the best meals of my life. Take the time and go to this small…but uniquely decorated restaurant. You will not be disappointed.
I loved this small family owned restaurant, the evening I was there no children nor grandchildren helping out, both workers were either octogenarians or very close. They were very sweet and helpful. Felt like my childhood, at a place in Smithtown on Long Island called Angelo's (aka The Hotel) near the train trestle. Checkered table clothes, warm rolls, a bottle of Chianti. Then grandma's lasagna and delicious gnocchi. I will return. They already had Christmas decoration up, it was a lovely/festive evening.
The decor of this place feels like it's new Years eve in Little Italy. The lighting Mean Streets. The hospitality what Olive Garden ads pretend to be. Was really impressed by the no frills eating experience as Faso's. Had a white cheese pizza. I usually don't do white but it is a special. Very crispy, not too heavy, rich garlic and oil flavor. Anchovies make it even better! Do not hold on it, it's not strong at all. So if you want to go back in time for family Italian cuisine go here. I'm definetely coming back here again for more.
Amazing food! Its a little modest place but makes you feel at home. Extensive menu with lots of genuine Italian dishes, even ones you normally don’t see at restaurants. Props to the owners (the cutest little old Italian couple), they served and prepared our meals!Best peanut butter pie I’ve ever had!!! Will definitely be back when we are in the area again! The photo is their spinach artichoke dip with pasta chips. So yummy!
I highly recommend this place! First time we have been here and we love it so far! The owners are so sweet and nice. A little old couple and they are so nice! The food is excellent! I got the potato gnocchi and my husband got a hot chicken finger sub! We will definitely be back! Such a small and cute little restaurant!!!!!
This is a unique place and it happens to be close to my house. Pasta fagioli is delicious. Complimentary garlic knots are tasty. Italian house dressing is outstanding. You gotta try it! Veal marsala was wonderful. Penne parm, not so great but menu is huge so lots to choose from. I didn't like the sauce but that's just me. Wine is a bit over priced for a little neighborhood joint. I've had the pizza before and it's OK. This is Buffalo, so lots of competition, but not bad. Come here for the ambience/experience and friendly owners who are always working. Chicken Madeira was absolutely the best. Onions, garlic, red peppers, sun dried tomatoes, artichokes, mushrooms and pine nuts over penne pasta
This is definitely an “old school” Italian restaurant with an extensive menu. The service was good and my meal was ready for pickup and hot when I got there. I was excited for finding an every-day fish fry near me when I had a hankering for a fish fry. The fish fry was good and I was able to have a side of spaghetti instead of macaroni salad. In the future I’d like to try the scallop and chicken dishes, there were dishes served here that I haven’t really seen at other restaurants. The parking lot has lots of spaces and has a small “beer garden” section in the rear for outdoor dining when it’s nice out. The salads are all romaine lettuce, not spinach or other greens.
I wanted SO BADLY for this restaurant to be my FAVORITE authentic Italian family restaurant to order from, but sadly it was a HUGE DISSAPOINTMENT !! ** I do want it to be known that this was a take-out/delivery order and pray they don't serve these portions while dining in ** I couldn't believe the PORTION SIZE of the entrees & ESPECIALLY the SIDE DISHES !! THEY WERE SMALL, PATHETIC & ACTUALLY DRY because they were also stingy with the marinara sauce !! My artichoke ravioli would've been OUTSTANDING if they had more than 3 tablespoons of MARINARA sauce on top !!! As far as portion goes, the house salads literally had 1 tomato & 1 cucumber SLICE in each of them& the spaghetti sides had We both had chicken entrees that were TINY PIECES of cut up chicken instead of actual chicken breasts ! "Buffalo's Best" Chicken Francaise was horrible ! I didn't even recognize it as Chicken Francaise , I thought they made a mistake !! I will say the DEEP FRYED ARTICHOKE was AMAZING & the ARTICHOKE RAVIOLI would've also been outstanding IF they would've put more than a few tablespoons of MARINARA sauce on top which caused them to ALL STICK TOGETHER !! I would've never accepted this if I was dining in & I REFUSE to believe that this happens while dining in ! It sounds like the owner is STILL A HARD WORKER & would NEVER find any of this to be acceptable ! Also the lemon cake was DRY like it had been left out & was very small slices I'm so sorry but I feel like the owner & take-out/delivery customers should know this since you can't send it back
I ordered for pickup, and the 10 minutes I waited there were not great. Very, very cluttered and dirty. Pasta for the ziti was overcooked to a paste. Gnocchi was a solid mass fused together with a ladle of cold sauce on top. A table was complaining about wait time. Single staff seemed to be overwhelmed by the few tables present. Sidewalk was dangerously slippery right outside the door. Have eaten there a few times happily over the years but lately it seems like they can't keep up with running the place, and the details are really slipping. I normally wouldn't have written a review, but this time was really bad. Reminded me of something out of kitchen nightmares.
DO NOT GO HERE!!!! I saw a post on TikTok sharing this heartwarming story of the owner of this place, who is in her 80's, who drives from Springville, miles away, to maintain this restaurant. It sounded like a feel good story, one that I wanted to support. So, me and my daughter get a $20 Uber over to Faso's Ristorante. As soon as we walk in, the dining room is empty except for two tables. About 8 remain unseated. We tell the gentleman who is the only employee we see that we will be a party of 3. He looks around confused and then says "Well, we have no where for you up here, we will have to put you in the back." I work in the service industry, I totally get it. So, no problem....happily we follow him into the back of the restaurant. Now this area looks like it hasn't been touched in ages. Dust is on glasses, old plastic patio chairs are piled up in one corner...the place looks deserted. Christmas decorations are still up (mind you, this is the first weekend in March) But, once again, whatever, I am willing to give it a shot. So we sit at the table he tells us to. No menus. No drinks. It's fine, we'll wait. But then it starts to become longer and longer and he is not coming back to us. So I look at my watch, and it's now 20 minutes we've been sitting at this table with not even a menu to look at. So I decided to get up to walk over to where the server was behind the bar to ask for menus to at least get started. As I approach the bar, this man is on the phone probably taking a to go order (at least I hope it wasn't a personal call). So I patiently wait behind him as to not interrupt. Thinking I would just ask him to see some menus to take back to the table after he was done with the phone call. Instead, about 5 seconds after I am standing there, patiently waiting. He, mid-call, whips his head around and snaps, "Yes?!?" I stammer, " I was just wondering if I could get some menus?" He visibly rolls his eyes and says "Ummm...yeah. I will be over there AFTER I FINISH MY PHONE CALL." I, of course, am taken aback by this utter rudeness so I just kinda stare at him, trying to process what just happened. But before I can even say anything, he then yells "What?! What are you staring at me like that for?" I shake my head and mutter that I'm sorry and head back to the table, bewildered. He shortly follows behind me and approaches the table with two menus that he promptly throws onto the table and before anyone can say a word he screams, "YOU'RE WELCOME!!" and storms away. I wish I was making this up, but it literally just happened and oh my God. Needless to say as soon as he did that, I told him there would be no need for waters because we were going to go. To which he replied, and I quote, "Yup!'. So, alas I have no review of this restaurant because I didn't even get to eat here. But I will review the horrific welcome I got to this place my first time there. If this is your standard of service, being in the business of hospitality, then maybe I dodged a bullet not eating here. Because if you can't even make someone feel welcome off the bat, the experience don't get better. Just saying. To summarize, do not go here. It's not worth the disrespect. This individual I encountered has to be related to the owner in some way, shape, or form because there is no way they could still be employed otherwise. It was bad y'all. BEWARE!!!
Loved the eclectic place, great food. But it has moved on. With 4 full tables in front we were seated in the back. Friday night 6:00. Two other tables were also seated near us. We were seated for 25 minutes before we were given menus. The hairied waitress poured water for one table a 2 top and took their order. She then took an order from the 3 top next to us, no water for them. She told us, a 2 top, that more than 2 orders would overwhelm the kitchen, and she would come back. We were not even offered water. So another 10 minutes at 35 minutes we left. Maybe we will return on a weekday when there is only a table or two.
Ah where do I start. Well it was my grandpas 80th birthday and he was so excited to try this place and well, it was a huge let down. The raviolis were supposed to come with meatballs, they didn’t. We got two lasagna dishes, they were completely different sizes. The rolls were beyond burnt. The hamburger was dry as a bone and the bun was burnt. We may have had a bigger order but we gave them a 24 hour notice. They said it would be ready at 5:30, we called and they changed it to 6.. okay that’s fine. We didn’t get the food till 6:40. Over an hour late and we didn’t get a discount or anything, just an extremely disappointing dinner. I hate writing bad reviews but this is necessary. If they couldn’t handle a larger order I would’ve rather them deny us instead of butchering most of the order. I didn’t get a picture of all the meals but here’s two.
