Great deal during restaurant week, 3 course meal that includes 1 app: a soup or salad 1 entree and a dessert for $20.19 a person. Great service and the food was excellent. Came in at around 6pm with no reservations(ballsy on restaurant week) but had no problem getting a table. I do recommend having a reservation though.
Great eclectic menu mixing old world and new unexpected flavours. I could go on about the details and spoil the surprises, but I don't want to take the moment away from you. Bottom line, we'll executed dishes with a great balance of flavours, spice and subtleties.
My husband's and I attended a food and wine pairing @Shango with a four course meal. Well, at least it was advertised as a four course meal. However, it really was eight! The appetizer had three courses in itself and the entree had three. There were eight wines total! It was off the chain! The food was excellent, as usual. It was a great experience, but there was more food and wine than we could handle!
Shango Shango Shango what can I say? What else could you do? The martinis come dirty, like the gulf on a spilly day. The fried chicken has that je ne sais quoi that recalls the first time you ever had excellent homemade fried chicken. They’re not putting bones in there, so you slice pieces or hoist that saucer then dip that heavenly bird into the gravy and voila: mwah magnifique. Everything else I ever tried on the menu was great too. Not to brag but I lived in New Orleans from 2020-2022, and trust me, a lot of places down there WISH they were putting out this kinda product. A gem.
One of my favorite's. Great food and an even better atmosphere. House made marinated olives and bread to start, great fish offerings and the molten chocolate cup cake is to die for. Not to mention homemade ice cream with the pecan pie. Great wine list and Beers on tap.
Party of 3 enjoyed their meals and the friendly service. Presentation was excellent, food delicious and the portions were spot on. Plenty of bar options available. I was told that they were new but our server said 17 years isn't new.
Hands down one of my favorite restaurants on Earth! Every meal is well-prepared and delicious. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. I cannot recommend Shango higher! Kudos to Jim and hos crew!
all my food was excellent. can't wait to go back. We were there for Easter brunch. Service was fast, portions were large and bananas foster french toast was incredible.
Tried Shango out on New Years Eve and had a great experience. It was the first time I've ever eaten duck breast, and our server was very thorough when explaining the cooking process. Salads, entree's, and desserts were delicious, along with a great wine selection. Looking forward to trying their Sunday brunch!
My experience with Shango Bistro began weeks before I ever set foot in the restaurant. This past July I was visiting Buffalo for the afternoon and parking along Main Street was really tight, so I noticed a spot behind Shango and asked a gentleman standing outside if it was OK to park there. The gentleman turned out to be the owner and we had a very nice conversation. Based on Jim’s friendliness and the great things I heard from others who had eaten there, I was looking forward to an opportunity to try Shango. As luck would have it I found myself back in Buffalo last month and stopped in for dinner. The food and service were excellent and I had fun catching up with Jim and his son, both of whom took time out to chat with me. I can’t recommend this place strongly enough!
Hidden gem! Seafood stew was out of this world and so were hush puppies. Will be coming back ☺️
Overall a great environment and dining experience. I like how friendly the staff is. We had a big group of people but our server Julian was so patient and friendly.
The wait staff was very friendly, and the bar tenders were very professional and knowledgeable. Food was excellent and timely. Would recommend to anyone in the mood for some good Louisiana style cooking !
Hadn't been in a while but it sstill was a great meal and good service, although a bit on the pricey side.
Excellent food with a New Orleans flavor 3/22/25 Another excellent meal of Penne with shrimp (unfortunately they no longer use crawfish) and a shrimp po boy. The beignets were better than ever with a more authentic New Orleans taste. The only disappointment was that the sweet potato fries had too much honey on them making them overly sweet and sticky
Great food, great service, reasonable prices. I lived in Louisiana for a bit, so I know my Cajun food. I approve, although the sausage in the gumbo could use some work.
The waitress was super friendly and helpful. I had a delicious fried oyster Po Boy. My wife said the Blue mussels were delicious. Portions were abundant. Friendly atmosphere. I would definitely done there again!
We enjoyed our meal here last month. The servers were efficient and professional. The decor is a little austere, maybe that's the look. I had their creole meatloaf, heck I'm in a NOLA style restaurant, right? Excellent, the heat was just enough to keep things interesting.
The food has been amazing every time I’ve eaten here. We ordered the fried chicken with a side of mac and cheese and steak po boy. 10/10. It was busy on a Friday night a little longer than usual wait time for our entrees but not unreasonable and the waitress gave us free bread and butter to compensate
Just about the best food in Buffalo and definitely the best classic creole/cajun penne dish. The heart and soul behind the cooking is evident in every dish, with flavors so carefully balanced without ever being boring - creative but not gimmicky, innovative beyond just trendy, the menu is the perfect size with something for every palate. This is a must-visit in Buffalo and should be in everyone's rotation, it's that good!
Refreshed decor gives Shango a renewed Fremch Quarter vibe. Bar area is popular for coctails and small plates . Employees and owners have put heart and soul in keeping a local treasure alive. Very eell curated wine list backed up with staff knowledge and training. Check social media for special events.
Will is quite literally in my top 5 favorite bartenders of Buffalo. The food is always spectacular, The Service is out of this world fantastic, And the atmosphere is 15/10.
This is one of the best restaurants that Buffalo has to offer. I've been several times and each time has been an excellent experience (even the covid takeout I just got). Their menu always seems to have something new and different to try and I've yet to be disappointed. Expect to spend a little bit more here but not so much that you can't come here a few times a year. Even if you aren't a fan of Cajun/Creole style cooking, eat here anyways. You won't regret it.
Great flavor, great service. Unique cuisine for the area. This is one of my favorites. The free cornbread is the best! This last time I visited, they had liquor license issues. They do serve beer and wine. The liquor situation and the parking situation (if they are busy) are my only gripes.
We waited a bit for our food but it was fantastic. They make Hurricane drinks like you would get in New Orleans. I haven't been out to many restaurants since March of last year so I tend to be picky when we do go out. Definitely worth the wait.
Strong Cajun menu with a good number of options both for starters and main plates. The wine list is rather extensive but not overly expensive. The atmosphere is upscale casual with a very warm feel and the service was excellent on a Thursday evening.
Great place! The fried chicken was amazing. Loved the atmosphere and just a very good meal all around. Very friendly staff. We will absolutely be back and until then I'll have dreams of that fried chicken and grits!
Our experience was particularly unique as my 4 month old daughter decided to loose her $*!\ right as the apps and drinks was served. Staff was above the normal level of accommodation to our circumstance. Becises the great customer service, the food was excellent and atmosphere was quite nice.
Great dinner. Actually it was double dinner for me. Shrimp Po Boy with sweet potato fries and Cole slaw and seafood stew. Both were large portions and better than I expected prices. I had two meals since I was starving so it was really $50+ with tip but that's on me and I lost to the sandwich and had to give up. That's a statement. I am not a champion-all-you-can-eat eater but typically my friends and family all chuckle how much I do eat. After the seafood stew I had no chance of finishing the sandwich and sides. All were great tasting. I just was shocked at the seafood stew and shrimp in the sandwich. HUGE.
Oddly enough, though the main entrees are solid, their best dishes are their appetizers n “small plates”. Jumbo soup w/rice is really great, flavor wise. Don’t be put off by the color, the flavor is fantastic. The crab hush puppies are also another must have. Crispy sweet potato fries w/honey a great mix with anything salty. And for main entrees, the penne pasta with jambalaya mix is pretty yum. The ambiance is solid rustic, if a bit dated. The furniture can be a bit rocky, careful. They are currently renovating. The service is solid. The prices worth the flavor but like I said, I lean heavily on the small plates vs the main entrees.
The food here is absolutely amazing! I would definitely make reservations as it is very small. I went with 7 people and NOT one meal was bad. Tried BBQ rabbit and alligator for the first time and they made me a lover of the dishes! Highly recommend. Also they only sell beer and wine.
Amazing meal, staff and atmosphere. We ordered the flat iron steak and shrimp poboy. Everything was delicious! Ended with the crème brule with pineapple, yum 😋
A very nice restaurant, located on Main Street across from St Joseph's Church and the UB city campus. The food was very good. I had the andouille sausage and shrimp in a cream sauce with penne pasta. The service was wonderful, as the waitress was friendly and made sure our beverages were filled and that we enjoyed our food. I gave four stars for atmosphere because it was a bit dark for my liking and it made it hard to read the menu.
Bar service is outstanding, food is delicious and everyone is pleasant!
Our go to date night since it opened 15plus years ago. Wonderful consistency in the food, always great specials and very affordable prices.great cool vibe and attentive service. Pro tip my wife says not to share but there mac cheese is so good if your get an order to go (2lbs) and add 8oz of lobster meat from whole foods ,you have luxury dinner for 4 for cheap!
Literally everything we ate was delicious. The grilled broccoli, the pork belly, the calamari, the fried chicken and the blackened salmon were out of this world. Service was fantastic as well. Love this place!
This restaurant is a jewel of a find! Have eaten there several times before events at Kleinhans. Food is outstanding quality, portions are on the larger size. Service has always been great. Bar orders are well done and a great selection of mixed drinks. Reservations have always resulted in immediate seating. Highly recommend.
Enjoyed a fantastic vegan meal here! Curried lentil stew minus the raita- chock full of delicious veggies and beans with incredible flavor. We shared a seasonal salad with an amazing balsamic dressing- so good! The service was friendly and professional and a nice view of the UB Architectural building and a local church. Omnivores will be very happy here as well- my son devoured the Mac and cheese:) thanks for a great experience- if I was a local, this would be a regular stop for me!
Shango, as always, was wonderful. On this day they hosted the former owners of The Terling Tavern for St. Patrick's day. The corned beef was exactly how I remembered it...one of the best meat dishes I've ever had. The service was what I usually expect at Shango, friendly and attentive. A fantastic day all around!
The food is actual perfection, everything ordered was amazing. The restaurant is beautiful and comfortable. The service was fantastic, our server was Chris, he was polite, professional, friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. Top tier all around!
This is an intimate and quiet restaurant that serves New Orleans style dishes. The ambience is dimmly lit, so you feel like your the only one's there. They also have large plates that can be shared, so the helping size for one person is enough for 2 dinners - Even their desserts are sharable. Their dishes are also not too "heavy" in the stomach. We ordered the "Crab Hushpuppies" appetizer, which we've had similar hushpuppies at other "New Orleans" style restaurants, and you're aleady getting full before you've ordered your main entre. Shango's Crab Hushpuppies are balanced with a pairing of a house made cocktail sauce that is very mild with a light citris taste that makes the hushpuppies magically not sit in your stomach. This is when you know the chefs know what they're doing. I also ordered the stuffed trout (whole), and on the plate you can see it - I mean from head to tail. But there was not a single bone in between. As I was digging with my fork expecting to hit a backbone, there was nothing - That trout was de-boned very meticulously. The time and care that Shango takes with building their dishes will definitely make me come back again.
I’ve been to this restaurant two times now and it never disappoints. If you’re considering going, please do! The last time there my partner and I decided to get drinks. He got an apple cider mule and I got a blood orange spritz. Both were perfect and delicious. We got the seared pork belly as a started which was delicious as well. It was agreed that one wasn’t enough because of how good it tasted. The combination of the pork with the sauce and corn was perfect. For the main dish he got grilled filet of sirloin which was cooked perfectly. And the fries were so good. I got the penne which was a perfect combination of spice and sauce. There was enough sausage and shrimp that I wasn’t worried about running out before the dish was done. We would recommend all of this food to anyone trying this place for the first time. We both ended up leaving with extra to take home and it reheated perfectly the next day
This place was amazing! We have been wanting to check it out for a while and finally stopped by for a friend’s birthday. The food was incredible - the fried chicken was super moist and the pork belly melted in your mouth. The hush puppies and banana foster was also delightful. Service was great as well, we got a cute birthday candle to celebrate. We will definitely be back and will be recommending this place going forward!
One of our favorite places to dine when we're in Buffalo. Tucked away in a great location along Main Street and across from a university, this place has great service and the food is awesome. I've tried something didn't each visit and I haven't been disappointed. I can't wait to go back and try something new. Thanks for the great experience.
We were blown away by the food here! It was truly outstanding. We’re from Toronto where creole food is virtually non existent so it was such a treat to be able to have some incredible creole food! Right up there with what I’ve had in New Orleans. The bread with honey butter, the shrimp and grits, and the creamed corn were so so delicious. The service was excellent as well!
Casual and relaxed atmosphere with a nice and airy outdoor / window area. The food was spectacular! Clearly they take pride in the details. I had two dishes and both came on cast iron dishes to keep them piping hot throughout the meal. A big plus is their vegetarian options! The lentil stew was out of this world. Everything about it was perfectly cooked. Check them out! You won't be disappointed. The staff was very friendly as well.
Food was absolutely amazing. I had the salmon which fell apart with a fork and melted in your mouth. Cooked perfectly and the entire dish complemented each other. Have some wine or their signature Hurricane then finish off with some Beignets. Please keep room for dessert and get the beignets. You'll thank me later. Nice spot for a date night or company dinner. I will be back again.
We had an amazing time at this restaurant. The portions are giant, the food is delicious! The service was lovely, too. If you take the metro, it is very close to the University station or LaSalle. We wanted to try the desserts as well but we were so full that we couldn’t haha. Definitely coming back to this place.
This was one of the more stellar dining experiences I have had! Be aware that there are more options available for desserts AND drinks than are online. The fried chicken and grits and greens were all so good it was hard to decide what the star of the show was. The bread basket was EXCEPTIONAL (that corn bread was better than most I have tried!) Calamari was crispy and fresh and the dipping sauces were unique. My husband got the Mac and cheese with andouille sausage and it was two meals for him. The dessert was a KEY LIME creme brulee with a blueberry compote and it was out of this world. Additionally our waitress was funny and super helpful. What a great night out!
Such a fun hidden gem in WNY. Steak PO Boy was perfectly cooked. Super tender. All the sides were great, starting with the bread basket and butter. Make sure you don’t leave without trying the beignets. Might just have to get 2 orders of it next time! Wanna try every entree on the menu as well!
Food was excellent, ambiance was nice ( a little dark but still nice), staff... meh! I expected much better service based on the reviews I have read, I would give it another chance because the food was delicious. However, honestly if the food was only average I wouldn't come back because of the service. Advice- Tighten up the ship, you've got a good thing here!
Nice place for couples. Quaint and relaxing. I wish there were more gluten free options, but the service is great and they tried their best to accommodate my allergy. They have a great wine list. Menu prices are reasonable.
This restaurant is very cute on the inside. The menu is hit or miss, though. I went with a bunch of my friends so we were able to try each other's food. The salmon was very good. The biscuits & gravy and the crispy chicken were not. The waiter was nice enough to help us out with some of the food concerns, so we left happy.
Went for brunch because my wife had an exam in town. Food was delicious. They also had good coffee which is hard to find in restaurants these days. I am available to all restaurants to give a course on how to make coffee and not coffee flavored water. But this place i highly recommend. Friendly staff, outside seating, nice menu, and yummy mimosas.
Overall the food, atmosphere, and service were great. I gave 4 stars overall because there was old crusty food left stuck to the table. The waitress did clean it up, which was nice.
My girlfriend and I have gone here twice now. We really like the atmosphere, the service, the quality of the food. If we were to make one small request: to have more vegetarian options. (My girlfriend is vegetarian.) Out of all of the entrees, there were only two options (i.e. the Jambalaya and the Mac and Cheese). Don't get me wrong, the Jambalaya is fantastic. And I have gotten a couple of seafood dishes while there; both very filling and appetizing. Overall, a fantastic place to go out and enjoy cajun cuisine.
The atmosphere was nice. The server was wonderful. The food was okay, but I was not impressed enough to refer. I had shrubs and grits. The grrits were two loose for my liking Occasion sauce. That's good and the shrimps could have been seasoned and cooked.Just a little more dessert was great. Drinks was wonderful
Food was pretty good, not the best Cajun/Creole I've ever had, but still tasty nonetheless. Service was fast and attentive which is always a good thing. Probably could have been in five star territory if either: The food had a little more "Wow, this is practically the best thing I've ever put in my mouth" factor. Orrrr if the prices were a little bit lower. $100 bill for two people is definitely on the high end for Buffalo. Many other restaurants in that price range could out compete this place.
I went to this restaurant to celebrate my brother's Mother in law Saturday evening. I was expecting to eat so so food! OK Food! Nope! I had the seafood stew! OMG! IT was amazing. I wish I had a loaf of bread 🍞 so I could dip it into the stew. That sauce no joke!! The young lady who serviced our table was extremely nice and patient. I'll definitely return and order that Seafood Stew.
We stumbled upon this place when heading back to our AirBnB after a long day visiting Niagara Falls. The restaurant has a nice atmosphere but it’s very dark so hard to see and the booths are tight. There was also no AC. We got the Burrata for an appetizer and it was mediocre. For our meals we got the shrimp poyboy which came with delicious sweet potato fries that had a honey glaze and the salmon which came with jambalaya, which my mom really enjoyed. (She is hard to please when it comes to food) My dad got the seafood stew which had good flavors but the seafood was all overcooked. My sister had the seasonal salad which she finished. (She never finishes her meals) We also got the Mac and cheese side and it was pretty good. Overall, it was a pretty good restaurant but I’m not sure if I would recommend it
I was excited to go here given the good reviews. My girlfriend had an excellent seafood meal, but my steak PO BOY was just so-so. In terms of cajun food I like Chester's better on transit and its cheaper.
I went in for Sunday Brunch and honestly left underwhelmed! The waiter seemed to be a bit off her game, but was kind and always offered to make it right which is most important in my book. I am not concerned with flawless service as we are all human, all I ask is acknowledge the error and attempt to correct it and you will be alright in my book. The 3 stars was strictly for the food. I ordered the chicken with "cheese grits" and eggs and also a bowl of gumbo. I also tried some of the other food that my friends ordered like the catfish and jumbalaya. The jumbalaya was very good and the gumbo was decent at best, which was disappointing due to the raving reviews of this place being "Buffalo's best Cajun restaurant". However, the cheesegrits were pretty bad. They seemed to have the texture of cream of wheat, not the normal texture you would expect from grits, and really we're too sweet for my liking. Being from the south and having eaten many many times in Louisiana, I can honestly say that the food at this particular restaurant would need to improve to really embrace the title of cajun.
This is a fine place. It has decent ambiance and seating possibilities. Wine was good. As tasty as my food was it went south quick but that could just be me. Also it was cold, turn up the heat a bit in the fall. Usually I like a small menu but in this case there could be a bit more Veggie variety and GF options for my partner.
Have been here twice before and was great. Showed up last Saturday to a sign out front, saying they were closed due to a private party. We’ll be back, but update your hours on this listing when you do that! How hard is this?
Terrific waitress and service, decent atmosphere, “church pews” may have be part of the ambiance but they are moderately uncomfortable, hence the 1 point deduction for atmosphere. Been to NOLA a dozen or more times on business and visited K Paul’s restaurant every visit. I make blacked fish and steaks at home year round on an infrared grill burner with a Hestan titanium pan with a blackening recipe I developed based on the K Paul version with great success. I’ve always enjoyed blacked fish and steak at K Paul’s. At Shango I asked for a blackened sirloin. The sirloin was pan seared but not really blackened and lacked the Cajun spices I'm used to in NOLA and on my own grill. Paradoxically, the Shango kitchen delivered my “blackened” steak in a pool of A-1 steak sauce. I was genuinely puzzled. Why? Everyone else at my table enjoyed their meals, I was the lone outlier. I don’t send dishes back at restaurants unless they are genuinely bad or spoiled. This wasn’t bad or spoiled, it was just weird and contrary to the cuisine style Shango is trying to emulate. It was like a cover band doing a bizarre version of the original bands tune. It just stopped making sense.
It was a struggle to give this 3 stars which is a shame because I remember when they first opened and the food was fantastic. I should have known better because the reservation was very easily available on a Friday night and when we got there it was initially empty. We were the only ones there. Back in the day you NEEDED a reservation now it’s just for show. The food was mediocre relying on sauces to convey taste instead of the ingredients themselves. I had the salmon which tasted salty and bland. The rice was meh and whatever the little round thing was i took one bite snd spit it out. We had two appetizers which were deep fried and more deep fried; and two dinners.I didn’t even finish mine and definitely didn’t want the leftovers. My companions dish looked worse than mine. Overcooked pasta and frozen shrimp the sauce was watery and only decent thing in the bowl was the sausage. He didn’t finish his meal either. The interior looks tired and the garage door was open which brought in a ton of flies. We spent as much time swatting flies away as trying to eat. I almost knocked over my glass of wine trying to swat one very aggressive fly away from my face. We left without dessert and really wished we had gone somewhere else. This restaurant needs a rethink fast or they aren’t going to be around for long. Really a shame overall.
My husband and I were recommended this place by 2 other folks. But, to be honest we're not sure why. The food was average and the hard church pew seats were very uncomfortable. It also felt a little dirty. Service was kind. We probably would not return or recommend.
The service was bad, took forever to get our food order taken, it took forever to get the food and when we did the kids didn't even get their food because the server didn't put it in so then it took another 30 mins for mac and cheese and by then we were getting up to leave. It wasn't busy, there were 5 other tables, it's a small place. I don't think my family and I should have had to wait 45 minutes to get our food order.
2/3 of my visits to this restaurant have been very poor. Inconsistently inauthentic is probably the best way to describe Shango. Last year for my birthday, the host made no extra accommodations for my large party. Placed us right by the drafty door. On top of forcing one of my guest to pay the same price for Her orange juice as the rest of us did for our mimosas. Does that mean your alcohol has no value?? Food was lackluster and without flavor. Today, over a year later I brought my family here for a father’s Day brunch and again, extremely underwhelming. The host and wait staff ignored us waiting for a table with no apologies, and I’m pretty sure I was served mashed potatoes not grits. I got sick to my stomach before the meal was done. When I asked the waitress about the quality she “promised” it’d be better next time. I don’t believe it. Restaurants are like people- when they show you who they really are the first time BELIEVE THEM. The two stars are held up by a great dinner I had a few months back which prompted me to try brunch again. Won’t be wasting my time again. Hire a new host with a better attitude and chefs with experience making authentic creole cuisine. This restaurant belongs on elmwood with the rest of the gentrification.
This place has a great atmosphere and the bathrooms and very friendly. O however do not eat atmosphere in the bathroom. I eat food. And the food was not great. Everything was sweet, as it was coated with honey. Po boys in NOLA are savory, with the cuisine being mostly spicy. Shango was not remotely close to New Orleans cuisine.
Third time dining here for dinner. When they get your food order right, it's very good. I recommend the buttermilk chicken. But, be ready to wait a LONG time to get your food and, be given bread to hold you over or a relish dish. Plus, double check your bank account when they charge you because it's usually more than what you signed for on your receipt.
Came here unexpectedly on my birthday after another restaurant closed without notice. This place had great reviews and a nice atmosphere, so we were hopeful. Unfortunately, the service and food were extremely disappointing. My sister’s blackened salmon was visibly undercooked (photo attached), and my Cajun meatloaf arrived cold/lukewarm. We would have sent both dishes back, but our waitress never came back to the table to check on us, ask how the food was, or offer refills. We had to flag her down just to get water, and earlier I had to go to the hostess stand myself to get salt, pepper, and straws. By that point, I didn’t even bother ordering another drink. Gratuity was added automatically, which is lucky, because the level of service did not justify it. We spent about $200 on a birthday dinner we did not enjoy. Nice atmosphere, but poor service and improperly prepared food ruined the experience. We will not be returning.
Very disappointed. Waited a very long time for our meal (well over an hour) even though it wasn't that busy in the restaurant. My fried chicken was pretty gross too- like it was par-boiled first. When the food finally arrived, the server put the wrong one in front of me and spilled a bunch of the side all over my sweater and jeans. I was so excited to try this place, won't be going back. Also only beer and wine.
I visited the place on 2/24/19. Food was great as usual, although a few of the guests in the party had their entree prepared, they requested not to have certain things but still had it. Also the waitress took 40 min to get us a straw. She kept saying ok be right back. Then at the end, upon paying there were some discrepancies the way some of the people in the party was charged. Im not sure why things were this way, but it made for a unpleasant experience.
*Brunch experience* Service was extremely slow while the restaurant wasn't at full capacity. From placing the order to actually getting the food, took 35 minutes. The gumbo was luke warm at best. The server forgot the gravy for one of the meals, and also accidentally charged the dinner portion instead of the brunch, a $9.00 difference. The atmosphere inside felt very dark and just sad. I highly suggest opting for table versus booth seating. The cushion is non existent, and due to the spacing, you have to try very hard not to tug the table cloth off the table as you're getting in and out.
service was great food was absolutely horrible. To start off I have been to NUMEROUS Creole and cajun restaurants and have been to New Orleans. To start off the night my girlfriend and I ordered gumbo, when it was brought out it was lukewarm and honestly tasted similar to the campell chunky soup. Then we ordered our entrees and I myself got the penne which came with sausage and shrimp. The shrimp tasted frozen and was hard and the noodles were hard as well. my girlfriend got the buttermilk chicken and the breading was literally just coming off the chicken and there was absolutely no taste to the grits and chicken. The ceiling right above where we sat has a hole in it and is coming apart. as I stated our waitress and staff were great.
Ate here years ago for a friend’s graduation dinner and the manager threatened to call the police on us, accusing us of trying to skip out on paying the bill because that’s what people like “us” do. This was the response to the table’s complaint of terrible service and lack of preparation for a reservation that was made weeks prior. Plus the food was a terrible interpretation of Creole and Cajun cuisine. I will never recommend this place to anyone as long as it’s in business
I’m not sure what has happened to this delicious restaurant but they literally have a hack running the kitchen. The chef really does not understand Cajun creole cuisine. You should be able to at least make a decent gumbo but no! It was a poor attempt. Really too bad, it was so delicious back in the day.
Disappointed. I have been coming to Shango for years and have always enjoyed the food, service and atmosphere. I am writing this review while I am still sitting at the table because of how disappointed I am. It pains me to write this because the food is very good, but it's amazing how the service and atmosphere can ruin the taste an entire evening. My boyfriend and I ordered and then the flood gates opened. With a couple minutes the soup and salad where served... perfectly fine, but then the appetizer came out and proceeded to get cold while I finished my salad. And then, you guessed it, just after I started the appetizer, out come the entrees. I proceeded to feel extremely rushed, very uncomfortable, and actually just wanted to get the heck out anyway since my relaxing Friday night dinner was over In a matter of minutes. I would have addressed this in person on not via online review had the waitress ask us how everything was, but she never came over to check. In my many years of dinning out, I have complained less than a handful of times, I am usually not comfortable saying anything negative but this experience can't go unaddressed. Unfortunately, I have no interest in ever experiencing that again and will not return.
I wish I could give 0 stars. I left another Mardi Grai party to come to Shango for some food. I was advised that there was no take out. There was no line out the door, and literally no other patron that was dressed for Mardi Grai besides ME ... I paid for my drinks, no tip, and left. Next year I'll be at Hot Mama's for Fat Tuesday
