Opinions de Don Cuco Mexican Restaurant (Toluca Lake) Burbank
I absolutely love Don Cucos. Both locations are great, but i am writing about my experience at the Toluca Lake! location. The atmosphere is always welcoming, the food is consistently delicious, and the service is top-notch. I recently placed a takeout order though a delivery service for pick up, and made a mistake, but the manager was incredibly kind, and went out of his way to fix it for me. I really appreciated that thoughtful gesture. Thank you, and I can't wait to come back!
This place was amazing! Lots of different choices for flavored margaritas. I had the pomegranate marg, Amazing!! Also had the queso fundido and they serve it in a sizzling cast iron with real cheese and it got crispy and burned a little which was delish! If you know you know! For dinner had the chile verde which was perfect. Service was spectacular. Just a little gem of a place in downtown Burbank.
Here's another old school restaurant that we love. It's cozy and dark and packed in tight! The food is on the higher price side but still worth it. We enjoy the traditional feel of this restaurant. My only consideration is that parking is difficult. So be sure to plan to come a little early to compensate for finding a spot.
Went here for the first time, and everything about the entire experience was amazing. From the service to the atmosphere to the food. Everybody was great from the hosts to the servers to the bussers. Very helpful, very knowledgeable and just great. I got the Lobster Enchilada, Chicken Tortilla Soup and Fajitas and it was all great. The margaritas too are delicious. Highly recommend, check out a very authentic Mexican restaurant.
You can't beat this place for its food, it's friendliest staff around and just the historical aspect of being here in the community for so long.
Love the atmosphere. Good food and drinks. Wish they would take reservations for 6-8 for dinner!
We stayed next door at the Tangerine, not only does it smell amaaaazing while you’re swimming in the cute hotel pool, my kids and I ate there 3x during our five-day trip. The staff was amazing and so kind. I can’t say enough great things about Don Cucos in Burbank, so I’ll say try the chicken tortilla soup. It’ll change your life. The ✨house margaritas✨ are top notch. (My kids took the blurry photos.)
Great atmosphere, I like their booths. Food is always a delight, as is the service here. Get the Chicken Mole Enchiladas, my favorite. Parking on the street can be a little hard at times, but with a little legwork it's doable. It's worth it. A little walk after lunch or dinner is a good thing anyway.
Excellent meal with great margaritas! Perfect way to wind up the day.
Delicious food, when I'm here in California, it's really hard for me to enjoy a good plate of Mexican food, but I found it at this restaurant, I was left speechless. The tortilla soup is complementary, and I had me a salad instead. Accidentally, they brought an extra cup, and the waiter said we could keep it, I tasted the soup, and it was delicious. Everything on my plate was delicious 😋
Old fashioned place. Superb food, ambiance, and drinks. Everything is just about perfect
So happy we went here! We had ducked into another restaurant on same street but left because of limited/small menu options. Ended up here as a walk-in and they were awesome! Cool atmosphere, dark with traditional Mexican restaurant themes/beautiful tile, stained glass. Got chips/salsa, 3 margaritas, 2 entrees (burrito and fried burrito-each came with rice and beans), 2 cups of chicken tortilla soup for $80! Everything was delicious but probably the best chicken tortilla soup I have had. Wish I lived local, would be a regular!
Loved my tortilla soup!! Absolutely nailed it. Chips were consistently re-upped as well which I always appreciate. Good service and prices!
What a fun little restaurant. We were walking by this place and decided to go in. It was packed at the bar. All the local people were watching a game. The food was so generous in size and so tasteful. Traditional Mexican food is at its best. Thanks Don Coco for treating us so good while we were visiting L.A.... We will be back.
It was my first time in LA, and I was so fortunate to be staying so close to Don Cuco's. The staff was so friendly, and they welcomed me back the second time I came in! Gustavo, my server both nights was wonderful! He gave great and honest recommendations and made sure I had the best experience possible. The atmosphere can't be beat, and my only wish is that I had more room to try more on the menu--especially those margaritas! I'll be back!!
Excellent patio and good food. I had the Chile relleno and taco combo plate with beans and rice and a spicy margarita. The relleno was crispy and full of cheese and BIG! I reheated part of it the next day for breakfast and it was still really good! Beans appeared to be prepared, not canned. The spicy margaritas was lacking. They should have put in a little more effort than throwing in a few jalapeño slices. Paid $45 for all.
I was impressed by everything. Right from the salsa onward. The margarita was perfect. The fajitas were delicious. Everything tasted fresh and with just the right amount of spice. This place has just perfected everything. Honestly, probably the best Mexican food I've ever had -- like an analog clock at 6:30 -- hands down! The only thing I wish was better, was the lighting. Not because it impacted the food or service in any way. But because I would have loved to take a picture of the beautiful food as well. The red lighting interfered with the ability to get a good photo.
Wow! This place was absolutely amazing! The service really impressed, before even getting our food... We were served chips & salsa immediately after we sat down as well as water. Our server came 30 seconds later to take our drink order. Once we ordered our food, the salads/soup came immediately. Our server even brought a small sample of the second soup choice for us to try! As soon as we finished any of our food, someone came and cleared the dishes from our table. Not just our server, multiple people. It was amazing. There was never a delay. The food was PHENOMENAL. I wish we saved room for dessert. Whenever we visit California, we will definitely be eating here. Thank you to the staff for the amazing service and food. 🤤😊
This place is legendary! Awesome margaritas - I prefer the skinny because it has fresh lime juice - and endless warm/fresh chips and salsa. My favorite appetizers are the Cuco’s shrimp (large shrimp wrapped in crispy bacon) and chicken flautas. The chicken tortilla soup is so comforting, and I love the homemade blue cheese dressing on the side salad. For entrees, you can’t go wrong with seafood enchiladas, cochinita pibil, or fish tacos. I eat here at least once a week and never get tired of it. Beyond the food, the people who work here are terrific - friendly and accommodating.
Guys, if you are missing that authentic Mexican food taste, this is the place to visit. Delicious simple food, nothing like the commercial Mexican food you find here and there. The atmosphere is great, cosy seating with reddish lighting, sounds a bit strange, but creates a nice mood. If you’re going for spicy, go for Al Diablo stuff, it will spicier than expected. The borrito comes in a plate with all what you would need, full of flavor and add ons, I had the pulled beef option, a favorite for me. Fajitas are all in, any choice will work. A lot of my reviews end up getting good scores, but I go looking for those special authentic places.
We've been coming here for years! They have the best salsa and their combo plates are delish -- love the taco/enchilada combo. Service is also amazing, they are always quick to refill chips and salsa and are very welcoming and friendly. And the vibe?? So great! Love all the cozy booths and decor!
Don Cuco's is one of my favourite places to visit. The staff are really friendly and accommodating, the food is incredibly tasty and fairly priced (I particularly love the quesadilla) and not the mention the free water and tortilla chips upon arrival - I could not recommend this place enough. The menu is huge, with a massive amount to choose from, both food and drink. I love this place and will keep visiting it as much as I can.
Love this restaurant. I've never had to park far away either! Dining here is always fun. Reasonably priced with great food and beverages! The Service is very attentive and friendly. Clean and fun atmosphere. Sports on t.v. at the bar. Full of friends and laughter. ❤️
A local friend took me in and I loved it. The margaritas are really good and not overly sweet, we had house strawberry and regular on the rocks. The strawberry had actual strawberry blended in it which was a nice surprise (frozen marg). The service was a bit slow but I understand with covid going on. The food was flavorful and tasted fresh and hot, there's free chips and salsa(a bit spicy but I'm not a fan of spicy). Prices, especially for drinks, are very reasonable. We had the guac and it was a just ok, lacking a bit of salt and lime in my opinion so jd skip it. Overall if you're looking for good Mexican outside of Central LA this is a great place to try.
While staying nearby, we stumbled across this restaurant. We went every evening to enjoy food and some of the best margaritas we've ever had. The service and food were excellent 👌. If we lived in California, we'd be here every weekend. Thanks for the hospitality.
We have been coming here for many years. The fajitas and Cadillac margaritas are amazing. Staff and servers are friendly, attentive and efficient. I love it here. Classic red booths. Cozy atmosphere.
We love it here. Food is amazing and so well priced. Serving portions are shareable. We’ve been regulars for years.
Wow!! I am not sure what I just had but the carne asada plate was amazing!!! The steak was tender and the Spanish rice was fluffy. There was this pepper with cheese that melts in your mouth. Probably one of the best dishes I have had at a Mexican restaurant. My wife loved the tacos and the table chips were fresh. My wife got a Guave margarita which was very stiff. Overall, it was a great dining experience. We will be back.
Been coming here for over 20 yrs and the consistency is amazing! Heavy drink pours, impeccable service, delicious food and comfy atmosphere. Thank you!
Aye yi yi! Don Cuco’s can’t be missed. Classic Mexican food in Southern California. Really nice little place with cozy booths and great margaritas! Everybody is smiling and the food is flowing. Everything about the place is laid back and copacetic. Killer chile rellenos ✅ Refried beans done right ✅ + Super savory salsa ✅ Fishbowl size margaritas ✅ Muy Beuno!
Don Cucos in Burbank offers a delightful escape for anyone craving authentic Mexican cuisine. The atmosphere is calm and inviting, making it an ideal spot for a leisurely meal. The soft lighting and comfortable seating create a relaxing backdrop, perfect for unwinding after a long day. During my visit, I indulged in the fajitas, queso fondue, and steak picado. Each dish was a standout, showcasing rich flavors and fresh ingredients. The fajitas were sizzling and beautifully seasoned, while the queso fondue was creamy and indulgent. The steak picado was tender and flavorful, leaving me thoroughly satisfied. Service at Don Cucos was equally impressive. Our waiter was attentive without being intrusive, ensuring we had everything we needed throughout our meal. His recommendations enhanced our dining experience, making it even more enjoyable. I highly recommend Don Cucos to anyone seeking a quiet, enjoyable spot for delicious Mexican food.
This is our must go to restaurant anytime we come back home. It’s always consistently amazing, the ambiance is perfect for a date night or just a quick stop with family. The drinks are always incredible and the wait staff are so knowledgeable and kind!
Was on vacation and my wife and I came here after a tour of Warners Bros. Looked at the reviews for restaurants nearby and we came here because one said “Great food and strong pours.” They were correct. Food was delicious, drinks were indeed strong, service exceptional, and atmosphere romantic. Great experience for us!
My favorite restaurant! The Margaritas are strong, tasty, and have enough variety to please any drinker. I'm no soup guy but the Chicken Tortilla Soup is quite possibly the best soup on earth. Every entree I've had is quite good, and the Flan is to die for. The vibes are electric inside and out. The prices are good. All around perfect restaurant!
Not from here so took a chance and glad we did. Fantastic food, quantities, and service. If you’re looking for Mexican food and can’t decide, stop your search and go here it was great!
Great food, great service especially when I ordered the wrong thing, they gave me another meal. Meals were Big! Margaritas were yummy! Menu has huge selection. Authentic Mexican food you can't beat. Even the next morning out of the take home box for breakfast. My only comment would be that the cloth chairs need a steam clean. They were pretty grimy.
Usually busy but the atmosphere is very festive and positive. Food was great, and my friend enjoyed the margaritas. Great place for dates, birthdays or just a fun time with great food.
Great place. It's always a good sign when a restaurant is packed. We enjoyed the margaritas. I thought the enchiladas were very good. Service is friendly and fast. Food was hot. I'd dine there again.
Don’t come here expecting modern take on Mexican dining. This is old school Mexican food that lands on your plate like it was dropped from 3 feet above; yellow rice, sloppy beans, and not a whole lot of flavor to anything unless you put hot sauce all over it. You don’t come here for the food really. You come here for a great old-school Mexican restaurant experience with the red vinyl booths, etc. It’s more about the environment here and I love this place. It’s great to have beers on the front patio. They can accommodate very large groups here as well. Parking is really really difficult here. Definitely better to consolidate or take an Uber or just take your time trying to find a spot. This is the worst place for parking in the whole vicinity.
Went to both locations in the same week (my family and I enjoyed the food that much!). The one on Orange Grove is bigger and has better atmosphere. It also (for our experience) had the better service. The food at both is great and the drinks are spot on!! Also the salsa is addicting. For food I had the Pollo Picadillo (wasn't spicy for me) and the Pollo de Naranja. Also I'd suggest the tortilla soup! It's delicious! Drinks I had Strawberry Tejon-something like that and the Purple Cadillac. Both had great flavor and great alcohol content! Meaning they had flavor but you also knew you had liquor that wasn't watered down. 👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼 Come for the food and at the very least go for the drinks! You won't be disappointed at either location!
We had a great experience at Dom Cuco in Burbank, right next to the Tangerine Hotel. Everything was absolutely delicious. I had the carne al pastor and my husband ordered fajitas and the queso fundido, all full of flavor and cooked perfectly. The service was excellent. Everyone was kind, attentive, and very polite. The atmosphere is cozy and welcoming, and the décor gives the place a really charming and authentic vibe. We loved everything about it and would definitely come back. Highly recommended!
Casual Mexican restaurant with very Ambient themed lighting and plenty of decor. It was a comfortable experience. At my time of visit there was plenty of staffing and consistent check ups on refills and other needs. There is a free parking structure next door with free 2 hour parking, with multiple levels. Very convenient. I ordered the 2 Enchiladas plate which came with beans, rice and also a choice of soup or salad, I went with the soup option. I chose 1 chicken and 1 beef enchilada. Overall the plate was delicious all around, especially the soup which my partner also enjoyed. I also ordered a strawberry margarita which I was asked for a smaller or bigger version. I chose the bigger version which was I believe 13 or 14$. I posted a photo of the size comparison to the water glasses; it was pretty big and no holding back on the alcohol. I would highly recommend.
I recently had the pleasure of dining at Don Cuco, Burbank, a restaurant. I was blown away by the food! The flavors were incredible and the presentation was beautiful. I especially enjoyed the Chicken Burritos & Santa Fe Rolls. The service was also top-notch. Our server, Diego was attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. He made sure that we had everything we needed and that our experience was perfect. Along with that he arranged the high chair for my kid and provided the perfect atmosphere to keep him happy. I would highly recommend your restaurant to anyone looking for a great dining experience. I will definitely be back again soon.

When we got there, they said it was probably a 20 to 25 minute wait but it only ended up being about 10 minutes. It was pretty packed but we were able to get served quickly. It definitely helped that they give free chips and salsa when you sit down to hold you over. I got the chicken tortilla soup and it was definitely good, I wish it had more meat in it for a bowl but it was only nine dollars which isn't bad especially in LA. Overall definitely a solid experience.
Nice Sunday meal here in this LA classic that has been in business since 1969. Love the old-school vibe inside the restaurant. The dining room is long and narrow with classic Mexican decor. Service was super fast and responsive. Started with the house Margarita which was tasty but a touch too sweet. Food was okay, not as good as I hoped. Tortilla soup was very nice. Chips and salsa okay, not great. Best parts of the visit for me was the decor and warm service. Street parking was relatively easy on a Sunday evening.
This place has always been a staple for years, I just wish the booths were a little larger, but I know theres only so much that can be done with the space.
Nice not-so-little place serving delicious Mexican food. I had the Cochinita Pibil which tasted so good. Their portion sizes are huge and the fresh chips before your meal definitely fill you up. We also had some chicken dishes and some of it was slightly overcooked, wouldn't recommend. Their margherita was decent as well. Overall, a good place to go if you are in the area but not one you would go out of the way to get there.
I stopped by after Forrest Lawn since my boys were hungry. I gave it a four star since it doesn’t have Horchata, Tamarindo and other drinks as it should for a Mexican restaurant. Also, the lack of parking is painful to be honest. The food was great and with a decent portion as it should since price is pretty high compared to other Mexican restaurants. The waiter always checked on us to make sure we had everything or if needed anything else.
I have no idea if this place is good or if the margaritas severely influence my opinion. I’ve been here a few times and got lit up off the margaritas each time. I even celebrated a birthday here. But is the food good? I guess. I don’t recall hating anything. My goal is to try my best to come here and not have a drink so I can give an accurate review of the food. Wish me luck
Food was delicious and the atmosphere was delightful. The service we received was unfortunately not the best. Our waiter seemed rather annoyed by us needing some extra time to figure out our food order. There was also the issue of temperature. They chose to seat us outside due to my mobility service animal being with me. The problem was that both my kiddos were cold and they told us they wouldn't turn on the heaters because other patrons didn't want them on. I guess when you are used to people throwing around who they are to get things in this town, it's easy to treat "commoners" poorly. I'm not one to boost, but I'm a professional athlete who comes to LA often for work and my family was having dinner with a network producer that evening. It's safe to say, I probably won't come back despite how good the food is, how cute and historic it is, and how close it is to the studio lot. It's not cool to treat people as less than no matter what their career or public status is, but such is LA!
Very cute atmosphere. I sat outside and the weather was perfect. The food here wasn’t impressive but there were large portions, unlimited chips and salsa with tasty cocktails. It was a busy night so there was a bit of a wait and the server was a bit pushy for us to order more. Overall tho, I would recommend this spot if you are in the area and want a cute place to eat at.

Five of us enjoyed fast, friendly service - tasty food and margarita's. Next time we're in town we'll return!
Be careful when ordering with any allergies involved. my son ordered a kids burrito plate no cheese bc of severe allergies. his beans were covered in cheese. Im glad I checked his burrito beforehand because it was also full of cheese. he would of been sent to the hospital if eaten. Very disappointed his food allergies weren’t taken seriously. Decor was nice, staff seemed stressed. There was a long wait to get a table and the food mistakes took over 15 mins to correct. I had to ask for my salad that was supposed to be included in my meal. Won’t be returning unfortunately
I had the mole enchiladas combination plate. It was acceptable but not exactly good, the mole sauce split and separated almost immediately. The chicken inside the enchiladas was well cooked, but the refried beans and rice were bland. The prices reflect the tuxedo shirt and bowtie clad servers, rather than the food quality.
Ordered an enchilada plate for lunch. Price was $13 with tax for one enchilada. I thought they came in pairs. I thought this was a little much for one chicken enchilada. Beans were a little bland. Nothing special about the rice. Salsa for the chips was good. This meal should cost under $10 with tax for two chicken enchiladas. Or atleast give me two enchiladas for $13 geeez ! Customer service was good. Street parking only which can be a little hectic during lunch hours. Not sure if I'll go back for lunch again at these prices.
The atmosphere and service was great. I was disappointed with the food and the chips I received were a little stale. The red rice that came with my food was bland to no taste. The enchiladas were supposed to have green sauce but I hardly tasted the sauce. My friend who ordered the shrimp taco (sorry, not pictured) was huge. Again, the flavors were not there. I was a bit disappointed.
We had dinner here 2 times during our stay in LA, first time everything was perfect (food and staff), they gave us nachos as appetizer, second time the nachos tasted weird, also the main food, i did not like it at all-shrimp in taco had no taste, rice was hard, i had to ask for water 3 times untill they bring it. Pictures are from the first time at this restaurant.
I visited Don Cuco's twice in the same week. Unfortunately the second visit ruined what should have been a great memory. My first visit, I ordered a shrimp quesadilla. It was made so wonderfully. Plump large shrimp with cheese melted from end to end of the quesadilla. The second visit, I wasn't sure if the cook thought he was making a taquito, because everything was rolled in the middle and I was left with big flaps of dried quesadilla. It was slapped together so badly I wondered if I inconvenienced the chef. I was so disappointed with the teaspoon of guacamole I was given. I pointed this out to my server. Thank goodness I did not order a side as I can imagine if it would be equal size. My friend ordered chicken fajita, as she did last week. It was atrocious. When she ordered her fajita last week, she remarked the slices were grilled and seasoned well. This time, she received pieces of tasteless chicken cut and thrown on the grill. I guess the original cook was out of town. Even the margaritas were horrible. I'm not sure what house tequila they use, but it was horrible. Don Cuco's is a long-standing neighborhood restaurant. I had been there many times in the past. My guest likes Mexican food, and was really happy from our first visit. Sometimes a second visit at the same place is not the best choice
Ate dinner here after a day at Universal Studios and it was just OK. The service was really good but the food was mostly bland and lukewarm. Definitely not worth the $20 a plate they charge. The Mexican pizza was the best thing we ate but was lukewarm. The enchiladas sanoras was very bland. The Chile verde was bland and not cooked properly, the meat did not take the flavor of the sauce. The rice was shown little care. They were very attentive as servers but the most important thing, the food, was lacking.

I will not recommend this place. Food is not good. Average street vendor is doing better. Service is good. Overall place is very bad, small, dark with a not comfortable set up. P.S. Worst michelada I’ve tried in Los Angeles.
Food is not authentic Mexican, fajita plate was 2 shrimp, extremely dry chicken and 3 pieces of overcooked meat. The tortilla soup was the only good thing. Honestly felt terrible for the waiter who was almost literally running to try to get everything done, can’t say I blame him for ignoring my table and having to ask for my refill and the check multiple times. The decor, lighting and atmosphere are nice but that’s about it.
The rice was not done, beans spoil, the shimp so dry. The meat from my child's hamburger taste and smelled like old grease. Disgusting
