Saddle Peak Lodge offers a unique, rustic ambiance with a lodge-style atmosphere that many find warm and romantic. While some rave about the food and attentive service, others have noted inconsistencies in food quality and portion sizes, especially regarding the price. The decor, featuring taxidermied animals, is polarizing.

I've been here several times and each time the meal was solid. The service is very good. Pork chop was perfectly cooked. The beet and burrata salad was rich but not heavy. We've had venison and salmon here and always tasty. We arrived early for a drink at the bar and even the "well" chardonnay for happy hour was quite good.
Liked the atmosphere and the food and had a good meal. Service was a little hit and miss, they forgot us for a short while but seemed a little understaffed with a larger party upstairs. Whisky bar is worth a visit if it's your type of thing, it is for me so I was happy. Good for a birthday meal and certainly looked good for the larger celebrations going on upstairs. Is an outside seating area but we didn't venture out there so I can't really comment too much on that.
The food and service were EXCEPTIONAL and well worth the drive. The dining experience and atmosphere can't be matched. Saddle Peak Lodge is unique, charming, sophisticated...but friendly...and I could go on and on. It was indeed a memorable evening and I will be back! Thank you for making my birthday a special night to remember!!!
2nd fanciest meal I've ever had and it's such an experience. Inordinately expensive but the food & service are amazing & the atmosphere is pristine with such a beautiful lodge. The Johnny Cakes are like the best thing I've ever eaten.
Saddlepeak is such a treat! If you haven’t been since last week or last year, you must go. Yes there are exotic foods like Elk or Salmon Tartare, venison, duck, rabbit etc but there’s also the famous Mary’s chicken or pastas and more for those who want delicious fare but don’t feel as adventurous (but secretly they’re waiting to see what you order so they can try it!!). The French Onion soup is very nice. Just enough as an appetizer and not too salty. The Caesar salad is very creamy and not overly bitey with vinegar. My favorites were the rabbit and bison ! Wow! Craving a martini or a glass of whiskey to kick the night off? The bar is stacked and you’ll enjoy every sip! Danielle, the bartender for the last 14 years pours a mean cocktail. The wine selection is beyond comparison. An array of selections by the glass will keep you coming back for a 2nd or third glass. Have a bottle in mind you haven’t tried or one that brings tears and memories to your eyes? Take a stroll through the enormous wine menu! Whether you want to impress your date across the table or the partners that you just struck the deal of the year, you’ll find premier choices from beginning to end. The bread pudding is so savory! Staying the weekend?? Don’t miss the incredible Sunday breakfast and bottomless mimosas!! Yes bottomless! The double sided fire place makes the bar a nice place to chill for a cocktail and bite. But the dining rooms and patio are a must see! Wait, did I hear the restaurant is haunted?! Don’t miss the culinary delights at this historic Malibu treasure! Cheers to many more years!
Love saddle peak; the vibe, the service is great, the steaks are delicious and I always get a specialty cocktail even though I rarely drink, because they are so fun. Definitely try the Johnny cake if you can!
Excellent food. Trio of meats, pork chops, Bison short ribs, roast Elk, crab bisque and Elk tartare was all excellent. Service could have been better. This time we ate on the mid floor. Very nice. Love the Lodge decor.
Everything was amazing. The food was delicious and the staff was attentive. We did go in the middle of the week, so there were only a couple of tables with people. I assume it is busier on the weekends.
The hotel staff here is beyond friendly, accommodating, and wonderful! I can't say enough about how they treated us like royalty.. a much-needed fall getaway turned into a memorable trip of a lifetime! Thank you so much to the wonderful hotel staff! Happy hour and continental breakfast was delightful and abundant in the quaint Lodge and restaurant!! I will always stay here anytime I'm in Arrowhead.
We celebrated our wedding anniversary awesome experience
We had a very nice meal here this week. We started with some great cocktails in the rustic bar and moved to the table where we shared some incredible appetizers. The cast iron johnnycakes with maple syrup and some chile are a great way to get us off to a sweet start. Other standouts included the potato puffs in a wonderful truffle creme sauce and the min Pork belly sandwiches were terrific. And the elk tartare was just wonderfully plated and tasted divine. The wine list is huge by the way and we settled on an Orin Swift red wine to compliment the huge pork chop with mash and bone in rib eye. Also one in our party had the salmon which was great and cooked to perfection. We finished the meal sharing some benits which were fantastic. Its a beautiful setting and the staff attentive and helpful. Can't wait to go back
Great Sunday Brunch, very extensive menu. Amazing atmosphere. Great history. The service was amazing. We had lots of special dietary needs. All the entrees were cooked to perfection. There's inside and outside dining available.
I have not been able to find a good place in Southern California for elk till now. I went there for an anniversary and was not disappointed in anything. I shared the game trio (emu, elk, bison sort rib) and the new Zealand elk plates. I ordered medium rare as recommended and everything was cooked to perfection. The wine list looked amazing. I went for a rose and bottled sparkling water. Even the sparkling water was the best I had ever had. We finished with the bread pudding and it was so yummy. Our waitress Mary was so friendly, classy and professorial. Saddle Peak Lodge really delivered on making it a special occasion.
It was a really nice experience. The atmosphere is amazing and the vibes are truly wonderful. You kind of feel like you’re in different place in a different country. Must visit!
What a little slice of Heaven in LA. The ambience is perfect. A little log cabin with exposed beams and rustic stone. We sat outside under the stars. The service is fantastic and we felt right at home! Our server Steven was attentive and very friendly. The pretzel rolls were divine and I loved the apple salad and the bison short ribs. This is a wonderful place to entertain friends from out of town. We highly recommend!
Top-tier service and amazing food. All the meals are outstanding but do yourself a favor and try something different when you come here. The bison is GREAT! Tip is included as a 20% service charge and they don’t even give you an option to add more on the credit card slip so there’s no pressure if you’re on a budget. Perfect place for a special date for any occasion.
As you step into the lodge, you're greeted by an ambiance of rustic refinement. Hunting trophies and mounted animal heads adorn the walls, softly illuminated by candlelight. Spectacular views stretch out before you, and the attentive staff, clad in their crisp uniforms, glides through the dining room. The crystal glasses feel substantial in your hand, and the plush leather chairs sink beneath you, adding to the sense of comfort and luxury. But it is the food that truly sets Saddle Peak Lodge apart. Its exquisite cuisine transports you to a time when elegance and adventure were the hallmarks of fine dining. The menu specializes in wild game dishes like elk, bison, and buffalo, each prepared with meticulous care and attention to detail.
Was in there a few months ago and I absolutely loved it. Please be aware that you will have to park in valet but there are some ways around this. They have a sign that says proper attire should be worn and I didn’t have proper attire but was really glad I was allowed in. They start you off with some complimentary bread, butter and salt. Presentation is amazing and key to food. The place is decorated with lots of wild animals and you can really appreciate the size of these animals by looking at their decorations. I ordered the three meat special which had bison, deer and emu. Bison and deer were delicious but emu was not so. I also ordered some quail and to say the least it was the most delicious. They have a 20% gratuity charge included in your bill. Staff was wonderful and very knowledgeable about their menu. Overall experience was wonderful, food was super tasty and service was top notch. We go to Saddle Peak birthdays, anniversary, anything else we want to celebrate. Because of re- homing after a long evacuation, we couldn't celebrate my April birthday until last Sunday. I mentioned this to the waiter, and after we were all finished, he suddenly appeared with a birthday treat. Wow. PS Saddle Peak is a ni tipping restaurant.
One of my favorite hidden gems tucked away in the canyons of Calabasas. A unique place with great atmosphere, excellent service and outstanding food. The menu features wild game entrees that always delight. It is pricey but the food and the experience is worth it… perfect for a memorable special occasion.
Food is great. Staff is on it. The bartender knows her stuff and curates her own drinks and menu.
Everything about this place is INCREDIBLE. I am blown away every time I eat here. Everything I have ordered has been fantastic, but my favorites are the short rib, the filet mignon, and the elk. For sides, the Brussels sprouts and the Mac and cheese are so delicious, and the johnnycake is one of the best things I have ever eaten. I have never been disappointed by anything I have ordered here. They also have an incredible wine selection. The wait staff are all so attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable. The manager (I think his name is Harry) is always floating around, and is so nice and helpful. The restaurant itself is also so beautiful and in the most gorgeous setting. I can not recommend this place enough!
We were so happy with the entire experience. Service was amazing and the food was perfect. We chatted with the two bartenders while we waited for the rest of our party. They both made us feel like regulars, and were super relaxed while still providing 5 star service. I really hope we get back out to California so we can visit again!
This place is incredible. The service was spectacular and wonderful. Nick was our server and he was so attentive and thoughtful. The food was delicious and perfect. I was so impressed. Every single server and the hostess were so lovely. The gentleman in the suit was incredible as well. This is a gem in the hills of malibu. Our son goes to Pepperdine And he is a Sophmore. saddleback Peak Lodge restaurant was close enough from Pepperdine for him to come and celebrate my birthday on Sept 11th 2022. yes…my birthday is 9/11…use to be a nice and quiet day in sept. Well, Saddleback Peak Lodge made it all so worth it today to celebrate my birthday. The bathroom was impeccably clean. I was so relieved when I went inside and it was super clean. The valet was wonderful as well. Thank you to the owners of this great restaurant. U made my birthday so special today.
I have to admit it this is the best place I ever been ... great food 😋 the meat 🍖 was juice and the service was friendly 👌 I totally recomend this place for any event ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Steven is a dedicated and very personable waiter and all the staff is great 👍 so is the food and chef 👨🍳
Excellent elk loin with a side of portobello fries makes a perfect meal that won't disappoint. Ask about the triple sorbet on a block of ice. If it's available pair it with the apple filled beignets, the combination of differing fruit flavors with the contrast of hot and cold will bring a sigh of joy.
We had a fantastic time at Saddle Peak Lodge! Super cozy, lodge-style atmosphere and a warm fireplace made it a really memorable experience. The staff was super attentive, and the food was delicious. Definitely worth checking out, whether it’s a special occasion or just a nice night out. Highly recommend!
Originally founded in 1900 and set up in the Malibu mountains Saddle Peak truly is a special experience and an LA staple. I go out to eat at least once a week to a new place, every week, and can honestly say this is one of the better places that I’ve been to in a few months, and I usually go to places of the same price scale. Our server Steven was fantastic and did a wonderful job as well as the rest of the staff that we encountered. The inside is designed like an old hunting lodge, which, at one point it actually used to be, complete with an inside that looks like a log cabin with taxidermy and chandeliers all over the place. Extremely unique for the Los Angeles area. They have valet only for $10 and the attendant on duty tonight was also very polite. Some of the items on the menu are a bit overpriced, but not by a lot only about a $10-$15 raise compared to other places down closer to the water. However, every dish we had was fantastic and the atmosphere really added to that as well. I started off with the French Onion Soup, which was a bit expensive for $24 but it was truly great. The flavors were rich and deep and it’s a dish I order all over town and can say this is one of the better ones that I have had. Next came the Bronzino which was fantastic. The skin was extremely crispy and the black rice with it was a great combination. It was also about $10-$15 more than usual being that they asked for $54 for this dish but still it was a good sized portion and truly delicious. Finally for dessert I had the famous toffee bread pudding which was not overpriced and came in at the standard $15. It was an absolute wonderful end to the meal. I understand how this place could be a bit expensive for some, but I honestly didn’t mind the slight increase in price just because of the trade-off of the location and experience. I would happily come here again, and plan to in the future. This would definitely fall into the special occasion dinner, even though it was just a regular Saturday dinner for us. I would highly recommend it to anyone for any occasion, especially a celebratory one.
We came here for an early dinner and enjoyed the quiet, very interesting decor and overall feel of the place. Our servers were very good. I ordered Buffalo, elk and emu trio. It was unusual, but I am glad I tried. Our gelato served on a block of ice was exceptional, really tasted like the fresh fruit.
My husband and I celebrated our wedding anniversary there and upon knowing this, the owner gave us a free dessert with a "Happy Anniversary" message written in chocolate. The staff is very helpful and friendly, from servers to busboys, they all took the time to ensure we were having a lovely evening. And don't get me started on the food, it was DELICIOUS. Would definitely go again!
We just left that place with my jeans unbuttoned, bc I am full and satisfied. So glad we took advantage of this DineLA deal! My boyfriend got the bison rib—tender and flavorful—and I got the delicate and tasty salmon with tiny dollops of wasabi to accompany the beets. Beets and wasabi? Who knew! The squash and lobster soup and the salad w shaved pink lady apples were delicious, as were our desserts-chocolate pot au creme (to die) and a banana bread pudding (boyfriend found the bananas strangely firm. the only minor negative of the whole meal). Service was excellent and non-intrusive. Note that a 20% gratuity is included in the bill, which I actually like bc the waitstaff is terrific. Absolutely worth the drive from the valley and the money for a lovely romantic splurge! Will be back for lunch in the near future!
Saddle Peak Lodge is a place we’ve visited several times over the years, so we were really looking forward to our most recent dinner. Before going, I checked recent reviews and was surprised by how many 1-star ratings there were - which definitely gave me pause. Were we about to be disappointed too? Happily, no. We had an excellent experience. There were six of us, and we ordered a wide range of entrées: sea bass, salmon, chicken, rib eye, and lamb. Every single person rated their dish a solid 5 stars. My sea bass was outstanding -perfectly cooked with a lightly seasoned crunch. Honestly, one of the best sea bass dishes I’ve had. That said, not everything hit. I didn’t love the Pink Lady salad. It was interesting, but the flavors didn’t quite come together for me. I also found the hors d’oeuvres and small plates uninspiring. I usually struggle to narrow down appetizers, but here I struggled to find one I wanted - and even the shared salad fell flat. The rib eye deserves a special mention. One of our dining companions is a sous chef who regularly prepares rib eyes at his own restaurant, and he couldn’t believe how good it was. His only complaint? Not enough mashed potatoes. Desserts were a hit across the board - the bread pudding is a must. Service was attentive and smooth, and surprisingly, the restaurant wasn’t packed - even on a Saturday night. One thing to note: valet is your only parking option, and it’s $20. Will we be back? Probably. When Saddle Peak gets it right, it really gets it right.
I don't get all these bad reviews. Last night was my second time there for my birthday. We were the only people there. I know this place is pricey and if it weren't for my good friend paying I wouldn't be able to afford it. But what a treat!!! Service was great. All of our food and drinks were excellent. We even took a tour of the place and wow its so cool and vintage. Please don't let this awesome one of a kind historical restaurant fade away. Maybe if they add some lower end grub or a few more LA friendly Items more people will come. If you have the money and the time go check this place out. I hear they also have an awesome brunch. Don't listen to the bad reviews. Go. You'll have a ball!
Went for the Christmas dinner with a big group of friends & they were very accommodating. Everyone was happy! We were not expecting a prix fixe menu, as we were told it was not when the reservation was made. But even with 14 people (some VERY picky people lol) everyone was happy! Note there is no tipping but a 20%service fee instead.
Such a unique experience. Everything I had was amazing. I got the elk, apple salad, and mocktails. I’m definitely going back.
A hidden gem in the canyon in what might be the most interest setting ever. The whole place is like a hunting lodge with hidden surprises around every corner. It has multiple stories with different themes, and a beautiful outdoor patio for dining and events. The food is also very good and high end. Great place to experience something new!
The Game Trio is why you come here! Seating inside the lodge or the patio outside, either is nice. Many people prefer outside but inside is also nice with rustic old lodge feel. Valet parking available. Tucked into the canyon hills location. Their wine prices are high but their clientele probably doesn't care Justin Cabernet is 3x normal. Great service with helpful suggestions. 1000% recommend the Game Trio! Loved the Elk on that plate. Also the Shishito Peppers appetizer. Portions are good size for the money. This place ain't cheap but the food and atmosphere is worth a special trip.
Everything was beautifully done. The wait staff was incredible. The food was quite good, but some of it way overpriced for the size of the portions. The ambience is both lovely and grotesque. Too many dead animals decorating the place everywhere you look. I know it’s a hunters lodge, but oh my God! It’s everywhere! Rather overwhelming.
My wedding and reception were held here a couple weeks ago. The venue was lovely and intimate and I think everyone had a fun time. I felt the hospitality we received all day from the staff, whether that was with the room set up, dinner service, or bartending, was very good-natured and accommodating. I can't speak for everyone's meals, but the salad and 72-hour rib steak I had were tasty and good quality. To come to Saddlepeak is to expect some aged charm and an at-ease vibe as opposed to a big-business feel. For me the setting and whole experience added up to a wonderful evening.
The Saddle Peak Lodge is a must visit for my family and I when we are in Los Angeles. It is a drive through Malibu and up the mountains to get to it but it is a gorgeous route even at night. Let me start off with saying I absolutely love this restaurant but if you are an animal lover it's a bit hard because it is a hunting lodge atmosphere with animal heads and pelts as decor and if that turns you off this may not be for you. The employees are all wonderful and the last time we went we wound up with a small wait and one employee took us on a guided tour of the lodge and told us all about the history of it (and some possible ghost sightings) right up until our table was ready. The food is wonderful, I really enjoy the Pink Lady Apple Salad, Brussels Sprouts, Mary's Chicken Breast, and sorbet trio. If you're a more adventurous eater my father really enjoyed the Chef's Game Trio of Emu, Elk, and Bison. It's a beautiful place in a gorgeous location with delicious food, what more can you ask for?

We haven't eaten here for a few years. Everything was fabulous, to the service, food, and atmosphere. We loved it and will go back soon.
We had an family event here recently. It was perfect! The ambiance, the cocktails, the food. It is an unique place which is its charm. It has been here since the 1930s! It is warm and romantic and cozy and everyone had a great time. So glad it's still here!

Love this place. Stephen has taken care of us twice. Exceptional service. He is very kind, polite and responsive. The food is exceptional, there are other items besides game food. It is a real experience to dine there and have such a great experience and food.
The first time I went to Saddle Peak Lodge was on a date (With my future wife). This was on early 1978 and it became our favorite restaurant.Back then they had three levels,we always sat at the top level and always ordered prime rib. We now live in Washington state and haven't been there in many years but we will always have fond memories. P.S. Back then busboys would take meat scraps and throw them out back, they have/had big windows on the back wall with floodlights and the coyotes would come eat the treats, fun to watch them but I guess that would be "politically incorrect " these days!
The atmosphere of this restaurant is beautiful. We enjoyed a long, leisurely meal with a few hiccups. First, we forgot our Tesla key card and had to self park. We were prepared to pay the $10 fee but the valley attendant was a bit grumpy about that we needed to self park. Once we ordered, our appetizers were enjoyed. We had the spaghetti with uni butter (delicious) and the salmon tartar (also delicious). For our mains, we ordered the branzino and halibut. The rice accompaniment for the branzino was under seasoned but otherwise, the mains were tasty. We also ordered the brussel sprouts which were great but arrived after our meal was almost finished (good customer service here as this item was removed from our bill). Our service seemed to disappear during our meal, leaving empty water glasses which was somewhat frustrating. When dessert arrived, it was dropped off without forks and one of the items was wrong. Again, we had to flag down staff to get someone to bring us utensils while the ice cream and sorbet began melting. Once again, the desserts were eliminated from our bill to compensate for the errors and extra items were delivered. Overall, the meal was tasty and the ambiance was nice, however, at this price point (even with the removal of several items from our bill) I expect to be served at a higher caliber.
The atmosphere at this place is great. The log cabin was first built in the late 1800’s and the. Added to in the 1980’s. Has the look and feel of a western hunting lodge. Perfect place to have had our Christmas Eve dinner. Food though, was good, but not great, and the price was a little steep. The service was great, and you must Valet park your car for $20. If the food was better, the. This would have been a 5 star rating.
Went here for a nighttime Valentines dinner, the main dishes were good. My wife wants to come back during the day, and see it in sun light.

The restaurant has gone downhill since our last visit (pre Covid). Service was slow, even though there were minimal customers. The restaurant needs to be updated. Much of the decor was falling apart, broken, or worn. I understand it is supposed to be rustic, but it should be kept up better. In addition, some of the food was not as good as the price would reflect. I will give kudos, however, to the fabulous Endive & apple salad I had; it was wonderful. Hopefully, the restaurant will get back to what it once was before Covid, which was excellent.
Always interesting selections, and very well executed. Game lodge atmosphere is unique, but complements the food/beverage menu. Service is untrained (it matters and it shows) and generally inattentive. Appetizers arrived, but no plates. When advised, waiter brought coffee saucers (?). Reaching over the table to clear plates, and fill wine glasses (?). C'mon, I expect that at Denny's, but our bill was over $600. I get it, it's hard to recruit, but management CAN train staff or improve performance incentives.
Setting is lovely, the food was good but not great, and the service was horrendous. I was treating my good friend for a special birthday and was embarrassed by their performance. Be aware that they have no reason to provide even decent service as their policy (stated in the menu) is to force a minimum 20% tip in every bill. We had to ask no less than 6 times for my friend’s coffee and it finally arrived at the end of our brunch meal! And, other basic things we asked for multiple times before receiving. I called the next day to speak with the manager about my experience and reached only a voice mail general box. I left a message explaining the situation and asking that the manager call me. It has been weeks and still no call.
For the price I would’ve expected better service. We went to celebrate my boyfriends birthday. The positives are that the cuts are definitely juicy and delicious. The food itself was quick and left an impression that the chef definitely knows how to prepare meat. The negatives are that we tried to flag down our waiter while he showed pictures off his phone to another table, we finally caught the attention of a different waiter to get a set of silverware and drinks after our food arrived at the table. I think this is an excellent restaurant if you like expensive plates with okay service. Would I go back? Well only if I want to punish my wallet.
Food was just okay. Caesar Salad had too much dressing and didn't taste like Caesar. Oysters were very good and branzino was good. Server was very accommodating and had recommendations. Service was spotty. Difficult to get refills etc. Table water tasted unfiltered. Location and ambiance are wonderful. Valet is expensive at $10.
It is always such a treat to go to this magical place, unfortunately the food and management can be quite a disappointment. 6 of us went for 7:15PM dinner Saturday night and everything was lovely initially; cocktail, salads, and appetizers and a complimentary demitasse of mushroom bisque. But then it was a painfully long 30 minute wait for our entrees. We were perplexed with how much time had passed, and as it is not a very late night place, the restaurant was clearing out, and we still had not been served. We had to flag down our waiter, who had not previously approached our table to acknowledge the long delay or to update us. Dining out has a pace to it, and this pace was that it was time for dessert, or after dinner coffee, or just time to pay the bill, except we hadn’t had our entrees yet. Finally the entrees arrived, 5 of them, but not the birthday celebrant’s. A long several minutes later, the manager brought over the 6 entree, trout with a perfunctory acknowledgment of the delay. Mixed reviews of the food. The salmon diner was happy, my $72 16 oz. ribeye was tasty but lukewarm. My wife’s chicken and everything on her plate she found to be inedible. There was no followup to the table from the manager, though now the restaurant had just a few remaining diners besides us. I stepped away from the table to speak privately to our waiter about the “spoiling” of this special evening, and the failure of the waiter or management to communicate with us proactively about the problem the kitchen was having, or to offer us any consolation, remedy, or compensation. The waiter was fully aware of our disappointing experience, and seemed sincerely apologetic and embarrassed by our experience. Still no offer of any remedy until I proposed they might offer us complimentary coffees for the table. Apparently the waiter took this up with the manager and they comped us the coffee and our 1 round of cocktails. The manager never came to the table, which is really kind of pathetic. This is such a special place, yet it seems to continue to fail to serve food as special as the setting, or to manage the guest experience.
The starters were a disappointment. We ordered a pork belly and a salmon tartare. One of the 3 pieces of pork belly was literally just a piece of fat with no meat at all. Very fatty and greasy, which you would expect of a pork belly, but everything has limits. And then the sauce and that toast - the dish all together had a fast-food taste profile. Do not recommend. The salmon tartare tasted just like lemon and pretty much no other flavor to it. Very plain, not interesting. Absolutely not worth the calorie budget and the money budget too. Game meats, on the other hand, were a pure delight! We ordered a trio plus the quail and a duck breast - everything was just great👌 Elk was tender and delicious, rabbit was flavorful, bison was very bright, and quail... well, that's just a quail, can't expect much from it, but it was good. And I liked the duck breast cooked to perfection with the sweet notes from dark cherries. All meats came with great matching sides - just really good! So if you like me don't like to put mediocre food inside of your body, my good advice to you is skip the starters and go straight to main courses. That's what's worth it! ❤️ I will be back for that game trio for sure!
Very mediocre. Cocktails weren’t great. Food was not tasty but I like to be fair, it wasn’t bad, just mediocre. Steak was overcooked. Can tell the kitchen lacks the experience of controlling the flame, hence overcooking a nice tomahawk steak. Environment is charming …. But very dirty, lots and lots of dust and spider webs everywhere! Hygiene needs improvement. Servers have a very very nice attitude which is what really made the place! But everything else scored low hence I can only end by saying the place is mediocre. No food pics because presentation and cooking needs improvement.
Haven’t been here in years and wasn’t thrilled About going because I’m not into dead animals on the walls all around and not into gamey meats… however they changed the menu so there are more normal options to choose from. The place is set in the canyon surrounded by oaks and the room is legit log cabin style and even tho the animals are still on the wall it’s a pretty cool environment. Our waiter was great but the guys who actually served the meals were a lot to be desired. They didn’t speak much English and every single time didn’t get the dishes to the right people …it was like they had no idea what they were doing. The food was flavorful but luke warm. I had the filet and I like a steak to come out hot. My husband has the rib eye and his was the same. The Cesar had almost no dressing so we needed to get extra. They also didn’t come around and ask if we wanted refills on our drinks. The best thing was the Johnny cake - which was like having dessert first. The bill was nearly $1000 for 6 so pricey for the level of service etc. …a dinner here Once in a decade is enough.

Service was good although there is a mandated 20% tip attached. Menu was interesting. Three meals out of six were served cold. Had them brought back, and when returned, food was room temperature. Overpriced and short staffed in the kitchen? Glad I did not pay. Maybe the weekend brunch is better.
I took my wife for Valentines Day . The menu was prix fixe for $185 per person not including 36% service fee. From the 4 courses (3 dinner 1 dessert) we had lobster bisque , scallops , elk , filet mignon , chocolate cover strawberries and Meyer lemon cake. Scallops were raw and smelled fishy, filet was over cooked -well done , elk was ok but lacking flavor. Total bill $540. Valet parking $14 . Total $554 I just can’t justify the spend for the quality and taste of the food . Next time I’m going to COSCO cook my own scallops and fillet for under $100 ,light a candle, buy roses and have an awesome romantic dinner. PASS ON THIS PLACE.
We went for our anniversary and it was great for two. So we booked for a party of 10 friends for a pre-Christmas season dinner. We booked well in advance, about a month for this Christmas dinner. They seated us on an added table with spindly folding chairs. Big guys were sooo uncomfortable. We tried to get them to switch us, because there was a large unused table right behind us. They said it was reserved. It sat empty the whole time we sat on thise awful folding chairs. This was a few years ago, and none of us have been back!
Dined here on Saturday night July 8th 2023. Ordered “shrimp cocktail” and apple and blue cheese salad. Shrimp cocktail had12 shrimp that was presented on a white platter with about 2 oz. Of cocktail sauce, on a bed of mixed greens. The shrimp still had the the poaching liquid ingredients on them “ peppercorns, and herbs or whatever was used for poaching. Not an elegant plate for $52.00. Apple salad was ok big pieces of Belgian endive with shaved apple sticks, a few candied pecans, again just ok. My wife ordered the chicken, which came drenched with their truffle sauce, and scattered around the plate were baby fingerling potato. Food was good presentation left a lot to be desired. My daughter and I shared the tomahawk steak. Which came with spinach ( very under seasoned) Brussels sprouts which had the core left in them and undercooked, red potato purée which was very gummy, and again no seasoning. Pencil thin asparagus which according to the menu it said “ asparagus cooked three ways”. We only get a plate of, what I’m guessing is roasted asparagus. And mushroom bordelaise which came in a 3 oz. Container. Not enough to share for 2 people when you order a 2lb steak. Best thing we ate was the fried my son ordered. Overall very disappointed, expected a lot more, especially when the price came out to close to $700.00. Service was good, very attentive. Would not recommend this place.
Valentines dinner menu was almost a joke. Quality and taste were below par. Steak cooked medium for what its worth, no flavor, no juices, no savory sauce or reduction. Chewed very dry. Veggies looked horrible. Wife’s plate was fish and not flavoral at all either. Upon walking in bartender was grunting and annoyed about her job. Hostess were nice as can be. Place seems to have gone down hill. To top it off, presentation was poor; especially the starter.
We went here for the Christmas Eve prix fixe menu and we were very excited. Unfortunately both the service and the food was disappointing. Our server was great, but the wait times between courses were up to an hour. They then tried to deliver one course immediately after delivering the previous course. In addition, they tried to deliver the wrong order. The game courses were delicious. Both the elk and bison were well seasoned and well cooked. Unfortunately, the remainder of the courses were quite disappointing especially given the price of the meal.
My wife and I went for our anniversary. The sticker shock was insane when you look at the menu. It was as if you went into a forward time machine to the year 2080. The price for a bowl of soup was $26. The sad thing was we actually ordered it and they forgot to bring it. The building is definitely very cool and you can't beat the animal carcases on the wall -- makes you feel like you're in Yellowstone. The price and the service level was horrible. And to top it off with a bow, they put a mandatory 20% service fee (as their tip) because people don't want to pay a normal tip on this kind of price, with horrible service. I would never suggest to anyone I know to go to this place.
About 15 years ago when my significant other and I went for the first time, the food was amazing. We went back last year and the food was still amazing but with less options. Last night we went there and ordered the Tomahawk since it was my 40th birthday and knew we would probably never order that again...we were extremely dissatisfied with what was brought to our table. Sad to say; last night was the last time we'll be going there. The quality of the food that what was presented to us exceeded sub-par. Steven had great customer service but it seems the kitchen was lacking; price did not equate to presentation and quality. We won't be going back.

The food was shockingly bad here and I truly can’t believe they can get away with serving this level of food for a $500 check! Came here on Valentine’s Day for a pre fixed menu which may have been a mistake and the food was bordering on inedible, tough steaks, soup that was basically spaghettios and cold squash with brown sugar clumps on it. My husband and I were both so nauseous afterwards and I got sick. You could tell a lot of the food was just reheated. It’s a very cool space and I thought it would be a much better restaurant but I would never go here again.
I usually cook on Thanksgiving, but this year I thought it would be nice to have a break and have a bit of a splurge at Saddle Peak Lodge, a Michelin Star restaurant (as I was reminded of after lunch). The set menu of four courses and 3 choices per course looked very good on paper. The first 2 courses were good, but not what I would call excellent. My first gripe is that the second course appeared at the table while I was still eating my first course, and I had to ask the waiters to give us more time between the next 2 courses. Then I received the turkey course. Well! I wish I had taken a photograph, but suffice to say, it was absolutely awful, and not worthy of a fast-food café, let alone a Michelin Star restaurant. There was a mound of turkey breast that had obviously been brined to the point of being almost inedible; ditto for the stuffing. The mashed sweet potato was edible as was the puddle of cranberry purée, and I did find a few beans, although they were hidden under the pile of food. The presentation of the dish—well it wasn’t really presented—reminded me of food depicted in movies about life in prison. The desert was okay, but again not worthy of a Michelin Star. Overall the meal was extremely disappointing, especially given the importance of food at Thanksgiving. To top off our experience, we were charged a 20% service charge (we were a party of 2 and had no choice in the matter), which was also subject to sales tax! When we questioned this, the floor manager did not give us the choice of paying a cash gratuity. After numerous complaints, they did remove the price of 3 alcoholic beverages, but I would have preferred to have had a Michelin Star level meal and paid the full price. In summary, I will never go to this restaurant again. In addition, I think Michelin should seriously reconsider whether the food at Saddle Peak Lodge is worthy of a Michelin Star.
The food is salty and served cold. I had the ribeye with mash potatoes. Can't blame that it was busy as there was only one other party besides us. Main course took WAY too long! Standard charge of 20% for tip despite the party size thus the waiters service is mediocre. The bus boy and other staff are good and strive to provide the service one expects from this supposed upscale dinning, but still needs work especially on clearing the table once one is done eating and drinks are better made at the bar than when brought to the table. Appetizers were delicious and at a perfect temperature.
First time visit and will definitely be the last.. The "manager" child was exactly that! Beyond Rude, disrespectful and disgusting towards my date and myself. Same goes for the child hostess, both of which we were informed were the owners children.. The owner should be ashamed of the way his kids are behaving and treating guests of his very high end restaurant! I have never been more disgusted in the way were were treated by those 2. The ONLY saving grace was our waiter and bartender both of which were outstanding professionals who are deserving of a position in a high end environment. The kids of the owner should NOT be employed without the proper training and customer service that is expected at a 4 or 5 star restaurant! Beyond disappointing and very sad!!
Such a disappointing experience. I made reservations weeks ago for March 25 to celebrate my parents' 49th anniversary. They've been going to the Saddle Peak Lodge every year to celebrate, and it holds a special place in their hearts. On the afternoon of March 24, I got a text and call from the restaurant asking me to check in; when I called back, the hostess told me that just that morning a man had walked in and spent tens of thousands of dollars to buy out the entire restaurant on the 25th for a private engagement dinner - just him and his girlfriend. She told me that, although they were sorry to reschedule our reservation, the money was just too good to pass up. She offered us a bottle of wine as an apology. My parents and I were disappointed, but we understood - what a romantic story! When we arrived on the 26th for our rescheduled dinner, I asked how the engagement had gone - and was told that the event was wonderful, and that all 300 people who were there had had a great time. When I asked how 300 people had shown up with only 24 hours' notice, the hostess - not the person I'd spoken with two days before - looked totally confused. It was clear at that point that we'd been lied to. Now I see another review on Yelp from someone who also had their reservation canceled for the 25th - except THEY were told that it was because of a planned power outage. If you're going to lie, at least try to get your stories straight. To top it all off, the food was mediocre at best: good cocktails, great bread, hit-or-miss appetizers, and entrees so inedibly salty they had to be sent back. We got the comped bottle of wine, but only after reminding our server. The meal was nowhere near worth the hundreds of dollars that it wound up costing. Save your money and go anywhere else. I'd really appreciate a call back from the restaurant to take responsibility for their obvious mistake and clumsy lies. What a disappointment.
I felt violated after having Easter brunch at this place. It was perhaps the most disappointing dining experience of my life, especially after having to choke up $400 (no alcohol) for three people, for what amounted to a disgraceful menu put together by what I can only imagine as a chef school dropout. The food was arguably little better than what you could get at Denny's. There were only a few options to with a basket of "bread." which was only chocolate muffins that looked like they came from the local Vons. The salmon came out raw, and even after sending it back it was still undercooked. The cream for the coffee was curdled. The croissants in the eggs Benedict was burnt. The people delivering the drinks kept bringing me two iced teas, and the waitress was indifferent at best. And this wonderful experience could be had for only $90 per person, not including the service charge of 20%! It was disgraceful. These people should be ashamed of themselves for what they delivered, or failed to deliver. We're still sick to our stomachs for being assaulted this way. Never again!
Went with friends for New Years Eve reservation 8:30 pm. Only 2 other tables the whole night with only 2-4 people. Our group was 6 people. Took 1 1/2 hours to get our food. I was very specific with the waiter I couldn’t have the lobster coconut sauce on my salmon. The food finally arrives and I’m starving and his helper puts my plate down covered in Lobster sauce. I waited for the waiter because his helper didn’t speak English in the meantime I was scraping off the sauce and by the time he came over my friends ate most of their meal. I said they put the sauce on my salmon and he has the nerve to say “I’ll get some napkins for you to wipe the sauce off” I was in complete shock. I said I can’t wait another 1 1/2 hours to wait and being allergic I need the chefs to burn all the sauce off. He didn’t care didn’t offer something else for me to eat or even take it off the billl. I will never return again!
One of the worst dining experiences I have ever had. We went there for my wife's birthday and we told them ahead of time that it was her birthday. They completely forgot. The bad experience started from the moment we drove up with the valet who was very rude, did not open any doors, and grabbed my 10-year-old son in a creepy way and said hello little boy. When we walked in there was a very weird smell of sewer. Also there was a smell of gas. The waiter had some lame excuse. I ordered the pork chop and it was inedible. The outside was overcooked, dry, and the inside was raw. It was also so over salted that it was inedible and I'm a person that likes salt. My son just had french onion soup which was also inedible. He orders it all the time and enjoys it but this one was disgusting. My wife had the filet mignon and it tasted like barnyard hay. I thought that the wait staff was probably on drugs because everybody walked around like zombies. There is no personality, there was no check back after serving the food, and when they did serve the food they had to auction it off, apparently not understanding the concept of position numbers at a table to remember who ordered what item. For three people, with no appetizers at only one glass of wine, and one person just having soup, the meal was $265. Absolutely outrageous especially for the quality of food and the horrible service. What's worse is they automatically add 20%, so apparently the weight step doesn't feel like they need to do any work to ensure a good tip. It's sad because this place could be great merely from his location.
V interesting crazy rustic decor. Food was not worth it. I ordered recommended hamburger. First iteration and undercooked .. odd condiment flavor, but wasn't sure if it was bec meat too rare. Had to flag down the server who didn't even do the perfunctory check on how was your meals. He took it away and said would deliver a new one. Fine except the new one, in a restaurant with many empty tables, so not busy, came when rest of table almost finished, and had to inquire where the redo was. It came soon after, this one overcooked and still with odd taste. I gave it back. This is not a typical experience for me. A suit came out to apologize and offer anything else, but at that point, declined. They did comp of course and were duly apologetic. The egg scramble dish was totally ordinary, and their signature how are, which takes 20 mins to make and arrives in a skillet infused with maple syrup, v sweet and not exciting. Service was poor with many wait staff and no attention. Would not return, despite the nice suit.
Set menu for Father’s Day at 95$ for some toast and eggs, refused to offer their original menu which had meats. Who offers eggs for Father’s Day and not meats ? And for 95$?
First, we ordered the Fathers Day Brunch $95 per person. We ordered 2 glasses of champagne. We were served our salads before the champagne which we had to ask for again!!!! Then while we were eating the salads our entree arrived!!! We asked for the entrees to be served when we were finished with our salads. Then after a half hour of finishing our salads we asked for the entree (eggs Benedict) and we were served COLD eggs Benedict. We asked for warm eggs Benedict and waited another 15 min for it to arrive. The croissant was burnt and soggy and one of us only received one egg! The potatoes were overcooked and unappetizing!! The desert we chose was flan. It was like a flat custard! Not a proper flan! When we complained to the manager for a second time of our service we were told there was nothing he could do. His name is Harry and he should not be a service manager because he did nothing to make our $455 lunch enjoyable!!! We will never go back. It was so bad!!!!!
Father’s Day Flop – $95 Eggs Benedict and a Side of Regret I was brought here for a Father's Day brunch “special,” and boy, it sure was special — in the way a parking ticket on your birthday is special. Let’s break this down: $95 per person for a three-course brunch. First course was a small salad (choose from three — none memorable). Main options were ribs, salmon, or eggs Benedict. Dessert? Predictable. I had the eggs Benedict, which was just okay — and that's being generous. The potatoes on the side were soggy and flavorless. My wife and daughter had the salmon, which was dry and tasteless? Neither of them finished it. Now, let me say this as clearly as I can: there is not a plate of eggs Benedict on this planet worth $95. And insult to injury? Coffee wasn’t even included. That’s right — brunch without coffee unless you pay extra. But wait, there’s more: They slapped on a mandatory 20% “fee” — not a gratuity, not a tip, not a service charge (according to the fine print on the receipt). So what the hell is it? A mystery tax for being foolish enough to eat here? We shared our disappointment with the manager. He apologized and comped us... coffee. Thanks, I guess? The lodge itself is nice, and the staff was passable, but far from attentive. At $95 a head, I expect food that delivers and service that gives a damn. Maybe dinner is better here — I wouldn’t know, and frankly, I’ll never come back to find out.
I dine out often and rarely feel the need to complain or write reviews, but my recent experience at Saddle Lodge left me no choice. My girlfriend and I visited for their Thanksgiving luncheon, which featured a prefixed menu for $105 per person. She had chosen the restaurant, selling me on its festive atmosphere and cute decor, which I genuinely appreciated. The service was warm and the staff were kind, but unfortunately, the experience ended on a sour note. Both of us fell ill later that evening with identical symptoms: chills, stomach aches, diarrhea, and general discomfort. When we entered the restaurant, I noticed their B health rating, which, in hindsight, might have been a red flag. Two days later, I called to report the incident. The hostess politely thanked me for letting them know but seemed ready to end the call. I asked to speak with the manager and was placed on hold for 15 minutes. When I finally spoke with him, he was polite but dismissive. He claimed that if it had been food poisoning, the entire batch would have been contaminated and more customers would have reported similar issues. He even suggested that I might have been allergic to something in the food. Now, I eat clean and healthy regularly, so I’m left wondering—was he implying the ingredients or additives were of such low quality that they could cause this reaction? What’s more, my girlfriend had the exact same symptoms, so an allergy seems unlikely. It could just as easily have been a hygiene issue—a dirty plate, or a staff member not washing their hands. This experience ruined my Thanksgiving. I missed out on plans I had looked forward to and ended up spending the day sipping ginger tea. While I appreciated the kindness of the staff, no real solution or acknowledgment was offered. For a $105 prefixed menu, I expected much better. I hope Saddle Lodge takes this feedback seriously and addresses these concerns. The atmosphere is charming, but diners should feel confident that the food and hygiene meet the standard.
One of the most over rated restaurants I ever went to. Firstly $15 Valet only parking. As there is nowhere else to park so they start taking your money here. We went because the website didn’t say a lot. We thought a cute little lodge. No prices on the website. So it’s a very expensive breakfast. Eggs Benedict Plus non optional 20% service charge which also get taxed so your paying $50 which is absolutely obscene. Don’t know who they are thinking that’s reasonable. We had to wait 15 minutes whilst they got a table ready for us at 11am. There were 6 people in the place. Generally it’s dark and dingy and could do with a dusting and general clean. Food on the floors: there are 100s over better places for brunch or lunch within 10 minute drive and better priced.
This restaurant should be charged with fraud. We made a reservation 6 days in advance through their website for a Saturday night dinner for six people. We received a cancellation notice call the Friday evening before our reservation. The message clearly communicated that "due to a wedding we cannot accommodate your party, we apologize for the inconvenience, if you'd like to reschedule please call us back." We left a voice message to express our displeasure, state that we would not reschedule, and to confirm their cancellation. One hour before the time we had reserved on the Saturday, we received a text message stating "we will see you in one hour." We immediately called the restaurant, and were told by an extremely rude "manager" that we had misinterpreted the cancellation! They subsequently and illegally charged our credit card $150!!! This required us to dispute the charge with our credit card company. If zero stars could be given, I would. Avoid this restaurant entirely.
A highly regrettable meal. Wagyu Tomahawk steak was a disaster, especially for the price. No crust, very undercooked. I believe it was frozen and not fully defrosted. If you’re thinking of celebrating a special occasion here I would highly recommend you reconsider.
We have been coming here for years. This place used to be packed with people but not anymore. Now I know why. The food quality has changed through the years. It used to be very good and now it’s just so so. The bone morrow we ordered came on our table cold so we returned it and order another one. The second order was waxy and not edible. Then we had the tomahawk steak and we found hair in the order. Spoke to the manager and he refused to give us credit because the hair doesn’t belong to their staff, he said. This was the worst experience we had ever been treated. Sorry to say that we will never come back here to eat.

The managers at the restaurant are complete jerks. Do not go to this restaurant. Specifically Harry and Hargun were awful people as I was trying to book my rehearsal dinner. They sent me a menu, and then sent me an agreement which said prices were subject to change… even though I would be paying a deposit. Not only is this absolutely unacceptable but their attitude was especially unacceptable. They were unresponsive for over a week. They were inhospitable after we called and emailed several times. They were disrespectful in tone and in willing to work with me to book my event. Do not book here.
Worst restaurant experience ever. Even though the restaurant was almost empty, the waiter in dirty clothes and with dirty hair showed up at our table 20 minutes later. Careless dirty guy who brought after another 25 minutes one cocktail, even though we ordered 4. When we complained to the guy named Harry at the front desk, who called himself a restaurant manager (he was standing at the front desk with full mouth of garbage food they are serving), he started insulting us and in the most rude manner said that we are not welcome in this restaurant and should leave. I have been going to this restaurant for over 30 years, and thanks to that ugly person who is a disgrace to entire restaurant industry, will never go there again. I hope the owners of this restaurant will investigate this incident and will kick him out for good.
Only giving one star because the ambiance is incredible but we had a pretty horrible dinner here. The service was the worst ever, it took 30 minutes to take our drink order and there was only 3 tables full in the restaurant. We learned it’s a no tipping restaurant so clearly no servers care to work for a good tip. The food was okay but definitely not worth the price. I would much rather go to Mastros or another restaurant. My water glass was empty for 30 minutes, we had to get new silverware ourselves and the t didn’t know whose order was who’s when they brought it to the table. We came for a great holiday experience and left never wanting to come back. I hope they get better because it is such a special place but we will take out business elsewhere.
We used to love this place but had the worst dinner here a couple of weeks ago. I emailed the owner/mgr constructive feedback and never received a response. Stunning. To start with the lowest point of the evening — my ribeye (which our waiter took off the bill) was one of the worst cuts of meat I’ve ever received at a restaurant - high end or otherwise. What should have been a delicious marbled cut, was almost purely fat and gristle. Most of it was left on my plate. I struggle to understand how kitchen staff could prepare and serve such a cut (at $80+) without recognizing that it has no place in a high end restaurant. One of the other guests in our party also had the ribeye — it was definitely a better, and edible, cut but not at all at the quality level I would expect from the Lodge of yore or at this price point. The rest of our meal was just…fine. Pork belly appetizer was dry and disappointing. Salad was lackluster. Pasta with shrimp — just okay. I could go on… Massive disappointment given how great it used to be.
Only giving one star because the ambiance is incredible but we had a pretty horrible dinner here. The service was the worst ever, it took 30 minutes to take our drink order and there was only 3 tables full in the restaurant.
