Consistently great food and service. Seems to be popular with locals. Have homemade grated hashbrowns cooked Nice and brown and crispy.
Excellent Food! You get your moneys worth with Great Friendly Service!
The Hat is a great and has tasty food. It is affordable and doesn't break the bank like going to Jalapeño Tree... parking is terrible
Delicious food and nice friendly service in a friendly atmosphere. I always enjoy this place and not just because my friend is part of the family who owns and operates it.
Great food and service! Salsa is great. Must try the chicken, in anything, it's so tender and juicy. Pancakes are awesome! Fair prices as well.
MmmMmmgood👍 had pancake with egg on top and good olefashion syrup...PC was really thick & brown kinda crusty round edges just like Gramma 's not often ya get a PC like this one😏 Really took me back and waitress was not pushy just perfect. Very enjoyable. Thank you El Sombrero, will be back. My life hidden with Christ in God.
I have always enjoyed dining here. I like the comfortable atmosphere. The staff are always friendly and helpful. I particularly enjoy having breakfast here on Sunday mornings.
Been there 2 times...food was excellent....reasonable prices and large portions which suits me fine. We shall return.
Absolutely love this hidden little place. Food is phenomenal and the owner is the best! If you haven't been here, you are missing out!
LOVE this place! Every time I eat here I leave stuffed! The food is great and the staff is very friendly.
The best Tacos al Pastor I have ever had. Service was friendly. And not as crowded as others if you’re in town for First Mondays
Food was awesome. .The place had just closed when we arrived and The owner even re opened for us . The staff was really nice as well.
I love their breakfast—great low price for a lot of food. All the servers are very nice.
This is a great Mexican restaurant. The food is just a little different from most tex=max it's a welcome change. Good food good service! Prices are moderate.
Good food every time I've been here. Only issue I had this time is that the salsa had too much comino (cumin). First time that's happened...to be continued
Really good food in large portions. No more expensive than any other restaurant. Large menu. Good service too.
Great service! Carrley was our great waitress...wonderful food, as always! Love eating at this restaurant in Canton, Texas!
Love coming here! Great food, atmosphere is so neat and love how its decorated, everyones extremely nice and always leave here satisfied!
Very good food, for the right price!! Recommended by ME!
Awesome experience tonight. Was our first time to eat here. Good food, friendly waitress, decent prices, and clean facility plus cute sombrero decorations. We had a fried avocado plate, al pastor plate, taco plate, and queso. We highly recommend this place.
I was hungry for green enchiladas and I can only get them made right here.Their tortilla soup is the best in town too .You might want to try breakfast here .Raymond and his family have a very hands on here and you can get breakfast ALL DAY .It's also my chili relleno go to place.
This is a great Mexican food restaurant. I love their breakfast and almost everything is good for lunch or dinner. Easy to get in and out when in a hurry.
August was a great server and will request to be sat in her section when we come back! Food was priced right and tastes really good!
The food was good and the server had great knowledge of food and made perfect recommendations. Fast service. Not a lot of atmosphere but food was good and large servings.
Best authentic Mexican food in Canton, maybe van zandt county. Chips and salsa are very good. Taquitos are awesome as well as the El pastor tacos. They're going to do a lunch special with sopa's next week and we'll be there to enjoy them. They have real gordita's that are awesome also. Very reasonably priced food and we always leave with a to go box because they give you so much food.
Food very good as was service. Great value. A pleasant experience. Update: This place has the best breakfast!! Upgrade to five stars
Two Sundays recently we have taken a group of 20-24 people after church. Food and service was excellent. They are now part of our class rotation for Sunday lunch.
I Love this restaurant. I believe the owner is originally from California so there's actual authentic Mexican food here, unlike majority of the Tex Mex that you find in Texas. Great food! If you want Tex Mex than go to jalapeno tree!
I had breakfast of bacon & eggs. They were very good. The service was great. Correct meal ordered, hot food, timely coffee refills and friendly service.
Our family favorite place for Mexican cuisine. Excellent location. Great staff. Nice variety of choices. It is comfy and casual. Also, great for Take Out.
This place has a great breakfast if you're looking for fast and cheap. We have also used them for catering a school teachers appreciation for breakfast as well as a wedding.
We arrived at a very quiet time us and another man in the whole resteraunt. Service was exceptional. Friendly. Fast and the food was great recommend the the chilli reljeno wife had the fajitas and says they are awesome as well
Absolutely amazing!! You guys are awesome!!
This place was not busy so we were a little nervous. The pancakes were amazing, bacon was crispy and the the eggs cooked perfect. This place is a best kept secret for breakfast. Oh and I forgot to mention we ate for less that $15 for two people.
We ate at Brothers Cafe in the building with El Sombrero. The food was delicious, country style sides and huge entree portion on the Monday lunch special. The wait staff was effectient and very nice. The food was served quickly and was hot and fresh. We will be back.
I love the soup chcoken torrilla
We eat here everyday. I have NEVER received bad food, rude behavior, or dirty dishes. I recommend this great restaurant for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
El Sombrero at 230 TX-243 B, Canton, TX 75103 is a great place to eat. We ate lunch and we had the beef fajitas and nachos wow you will get your moneys worth and served hot and very juicy and a mixture of great flavors. The beef on the nachos was fantastic with a mixture of other items added such as guacamole, sour cream, onions, tomato and a white sauce that was fantastic. The fajitas came out sizzling and very tender with fresh condiments and rice and beans that were very tasty. We have also had breakfast here too and we enjoyed everything about it. The place was very clean kind of old fashioned but well kept with no waiting and the service was wonderful. We got our meal quickly very little waiting and the parking lot was easy to get to and such a cute spot here in Canton Tx we highly recommend you try it. We will be back thanks for the great service.
This establishment was A+. Definitely will travel back just to eat here again! Bring the kiddos too, they are very family friendly. Loved our waitress too!
I went in to get just 2 orders of beef fajita meat to go, nothing else, and they were able to fill the order at a reasonable price. It looks like they've done a freshening up of the interior, which was definitely needed. Nice and clean. Beef fajita meat was good and tender. We'll eat in next time, and enjoy the updated interior.
My meal was delicious we had fajitas with beans , rice , guac and sour cream 10/10 and I’m picky when it comes to Mexican food it has to taste authentic and they passed . Now , their salsa wasn’t the best hope they can make it better and add sum kick to it . Chips were nice and hot . We felt very welcome by the girl who attended us . Will definitely be back !
Best breakfast food in Canton served here! I've been coming here since I was a kid and have become increasingly picky, this place has always had good options for me. I always order different things but by far the biscuits and gravy and the pancakes are my favs! The owner is always around and greeting people, making each person feel like family. They also help other local businesses by displaying business cards for people to take. All around an amazing food establishment with the best breakfast in Canton!
The chicken wings on the appetizer could have used sauce or seasoning. The chicken fried steak mashed potatoes and okra was great my wife had the BBQ burger and loved it
Quick, friendly service with generous portions and wonderful flavor! We love the breakfast burritos and the lunch quesadillas. They're a great price for the quality.
I placed it to go order and receive somebody else's order brought it back within 5 minutes and took a while to get the order but glad I did real good chicken fried steak and the nachos were okay
Don't let the silence of the restaurant, the lack of knowledge and inattentiveness from ONLY our server fool you, the food more than makes up for it!! It was PHENOMENAL!! The biscuits and gravy were OFF THE CHAIN!! We will be back!!!
Every time I've been I've had friendly service and the food has always been good. One of my favorite times to go is for breakfast.
Everything was just "Ok ", Ok food, Ok service. Prices are going higher, like everywhere else. The atmosphere is good, Everything looked clean, but I'm looking for more than just "Ok " when I'm spending money.
Nobles and eggs were delicious. The staff was very friendly. I will be back. Breakfast was great but I will be back for lunch.
Mexican food was very good. Sauce is a bit on the hot side, more than first visit. Chicken Friwd steak was also good. Portion size large. Service was excellent, friendly and helpful. Will make this place a regular.
Very good food at very reasonable prices, especially by 2024 standards. The service was very good also. We will go back.
My father and I have been coming here together for years, it’s definitely has come along well since then. The food here is ok but it honestly depends on what you get or like! Other than that, it’s very nice and comfortable here!
Food is good. The service is usually pretty good. Portions are huge. Wish the portions and prices were a little smaller. Can never finish my meal. Chips and salsa are awesome!
Large menu, good Breakfast available all day. The burrito special and super burrito are full plate big burritos that can satisfy a large appetite. Kitchen special is very good.
Pretty good Mexican food for Canton. The hot sauce is good, the fried avocado is great. The owner is real nice guy. I'll go back for sure.
The chips and salsa were awesome so good, friendly staff. Good beans and rice I had the flautas which was okay. My son had the burrito which was not good completely full of very undercooked onions! So if you plan to have the burrito I would ask for them to go easy on the onions. Other than that our experience was very nice and I will try it again I hear the breakfast is amazing!
Food was really good. We got there not long before closing on a slow day so everyone was busy cleaning up for the day. Friendly staff and again the food was very good. I wouldn't hesitate at all to go back.
Food hits the spot the waitress i had leslie was on top of everything polite and kind
Friendly service. Food came out fast and the salsa and tortillas were good. My enchiladas weren’t bad but I’ve had better. Overall it was a pleasant experience and would go back to try their other dishes. Waitress was sweet.
It was my husband and I’s first time visiting. Our food was great!! Tasty and at the right temperature. The restaurant was clean. The hostess was friendly. However, our server, Melissa ruined our experience. Not friendly at all. Made us feel unwelcome. Only checked on our table AFTER I had to go to the server’s area to get my husband’s drink refill because she didn’t check on us after serving our dinners. Afterwards the unpleasantry got worse. If we come back, we will request Alex. We kept observing what a great service he gave to his customers.
Pricey food. Fajita meat wasn't cooked well. Coffee was horrible. Wait staff was super friendly.
This place does not serve alcohol- atmosphere was ok. Food was not bad, but also not the best.
Not many great choices for good Mexican food in Canton. Menu prices are a little high but you get plenty of food and drink for what you pay. Only negative is the food is always served with enough oil on it to lube the rearend of an F-350!
Had Fajitas and a salad. Low carb. Fajitas (chicken) had a lot of gristle. Salad greens were wilted? Chicken and onions and peppers were delicious. Great iced tea. Excellent service .
The waitress was training two other new wait staff, and was relatively new herself, so it was kind of understandable that the service wasn't necessarily worthy of 5 stars. The food was pretty standard for a Tex-Mex restaurant. It wasn't mind-blowingly stellar, but it wasn't bad. If you're in the area and in the mood for Tex-Mex, this would be a decent place to go.
I had the Guisado De Puerco, normally this dish is made with sauce made with guajillo, ancho, garlic, and onion. However, here they opted for a different "homemade sauce" which appeared to have made with chile powder or something similar, definitely not the traditional sauce to be expected. Having said all that, it worked and it was savory. The beans and rice were fresh and standard fare, so nothing really to speak of here, I had flour tortillas and they were delicious and had a "casero" style to them. Definitely on my list to come back again. Excellent staff, super friendly and efficient.
Food is good as is the selection. Serves breakfast lunch & dinner. Can order off the dinner menu anytime. Fajitas are good, queso & cheap breakfast tacos. Prices are reasonable. Service can be slow. If your looking for a pristine restaurant, this is not for you.
The food was mediocre at best, hair in two of our plates and two plates very undercooked. The server was amazing, very attentive and took care of our seven people table very well, she's the only good thing about this place.
We are from DFW and was looking for a breakfast place near purtis creek. Food was okay. My daughter got biscuits and gravy and the biscuits looked just like Pilsbury. No sausage was in the gravy. I had the Mexican scrambled eggs. The veggies were clearly from frozen and the taste was watery and bland. Not sure what else is available in the area but it wasn't terrible.
The first time we visited, the food was acceptably good, however last night, our second visit, not so much so and the menu items we chose resulted in an additional $6 increase in price over a few weeks ago and the portion sizes seemed to have shrunk while the menu prices increased. What galled me the most however, was an additional charge for diced onions I asked for and the size of that container of diced onions was the exact size of a condiment sized order of mayo, ketchup or mustard one might ask for.
Food was so so. There was only 1 waitress and she had a very hard time keeping up. There was another employee in the restaurant but she only came out and checked the register and went back to the back. Poor girl in from had 67 tables and she was busing, serving drinks, taking orders, working cashier and taking care of to go orders. Poor girl needed help, but the girl who checked the register wasn't going to help her. Inside was very dirty, everything on the walls was covered in dust. Bathroom where disgusting. Will definitely not eat there again.
Updated review: This place has gone downhill fast this year. They raised prices, lowered portions and the quality of the food is not good. The last 3 visits have been horrible. The wait staff is still cool, but the food is not great. Nobody should have wet meat in a chimichamga. Used to eat here a lot, but now I cant bring myself to go back. Old review: They have best Mexican food in Canton. The portions are large and delicious. The staff is wonderful and friendly. Fresh tamales to-go daily. Keep up the awesome job, y'all.
This use to be our go to for mexican food in canton but the last few times we have been in were terrible and my review needs to change. The last time we sat at least 15 minutes before service started. We finally ordered and received food and one entree was inedible...a taco salad with wilted lettuce and more grease than beef. One plate was wrong and had to be returned...only one plate was correct without much complaint. We gave it a few months after the last bad trip and it was even worse this time. Sadly we won't be back.
Their steak has gone downhill bad. 😂 speaking of steak, their skirt steak price is on the menu as "market price" which means it varies (60.00 the day we went 😂) but their t-bone steaks have a set price on the menu. Service... we were forgotten about alot, maybe too many tables per server? I don't know what the excuse could be. Other than that it was okay.
So the chips and salsa where good. Love when I get warm chips. Service was also prompt and good, server said it was only her second day but she was on top of it and that made me feel good. I ordered chimichanga and it was out to my table in less than 4 minutes. I found that kind of fast and then I figured out why. The meat tasted old the cheese I think was slice sandwich cheese and did not taste good at all. I scraped it off hoping that would help. But still was disappointed this was not Mexican food to me . Sad choice for me after a 4 hour drive form Oklahoma. 4.1 stars is what it had should be more like 2.4 stars. I hope they get it together respectfuly
I was enjoying my food until I found this rock in my enchiladas... yes a rock. I thought possibly it was some sort of hard piece but upon closer inspection I came to the conclusion that it was an actual rock.
Worst restaurant ever, don’t waste your money! Not authentic at all. The booths stunk like nasty BO!! Couldn’t enjoy our food because of how awful the booth cushions smelt . The waitress/cashier took his job like it was a joke and said the cook was half blind and that’s why our order kept having issues . They just need to go out of business
El Sombrero today was not good! Ordered beef fajitas that were the toughest I have ever had any where! Every bite was tough! When I mentioned it to the waitress she just mumbled oh yeah you got the beef!!! And then just walked off! Never said sorry or can I bring you something else, Nadah!! And fajitas were their special today!!! Should be minus star options!!
We do not normally rate businesses but we had a bad experience at the Canton TX El Sombrero. The charro beans had a distinct flavor of industrial cleaner in them and the pork meat was not edible. Can't recommend.
If your not local. People dont care for you to be in there. Got started at by the locals and the waitress didnt make us feel like we should have been there at all. It was 1st monday and just wanted some breakfast. Wont ever go back
Tacos are to greazy and much to salty the food is not good in my opinion. Chips were old. their hours are always different poor quality not worth it im not planning on coming back.
Service was very slow, food had no flavor and the owner sat and stared at us from another booth the whole time we were eating. Would not recommend!!!
Restaurants smelled of disinfectant and the food was not good. My husband loves Mexican food and was disappointed. It tasted bland, not authentic.
Never again will I eat here. Food was bland fried avocado 🥑 batter under cooked. Fajita meat was ground up beef.
A friend and I planned on meeting each other for lunch halfway….turned out to be Canton. We picked out El Sombrero because it sounded good. Before making the 1 hour drive from my house, I called the restaurant at 2:15 to verify they were open. The lady I spoke with said yes, they were open and would be closing at 5pm. So I left my house. Met my friend there at 3:25. Upon walking into the restaurant, the hostess tells us that they are closed. I explained that I called earlier and was specifically told they were open until 5. She said they decided to close early and the kitchen was already closed. I understand as a personal business that they can do as they please but that’s terrible customer service, especially for driving an hour one way and telling a customer on the phone that they would be open. Was very frustrating! Will not try that place again. We ended up finding another restaurant that was amazing, The Kickin Mule….what a great place!
Poor service, filthy restaurant. Our waitress was seating customers and filling pick up orders meanwhile forgot everything for our table including our chips and salsa, and our whole order. Meanwhile everyone that came in 15 mins after us were being served their breakfast, their chips and salsa as well. Paid for our coffee and oj and headed up the street to Dairy Palace, great move. DO NOT STOP HERE!
Gave my friend food poisoning. The restaurant directly beside it (Brothers Café) is excellent though. Idk why Google keeps asking me about going here. I only go to Brothers. It deserves so many more reviews than this place. I've had several people tell me they've gotten sick from eating here.
When we arrived there were several people enjoying their meal a friendly young man came from the back and ask us to have a seat and they will be right with us ..we were looking for an inexpensive lunch so with the waitress standing there we considered splitting an order of nachos and the young lady pointed out the plate of 3 street tacos we saw it and right in front of her we both said 5 bux that would be about the same as splitting the nachos and we could get our own plate and still keep the price down and had the waitress not ben part of the conversion i wouldnt be so mad but she let us the whole time sit there and just think that was a 5.99 plate but when we went to check out and the bill was near 40 bux for 6 street tacos rice and beans i just really felt deceived ...so..if u go here PAY CLOSE ATTENTION they will let u screw yourself
Ordered ribeyes special medium/rare. Steak came out totally RAW. Deep red in center and cool to the touch. They didn't offer to make me another steak just to cook mine a little more... check your meat folks
The AC did not work. The guacamole was simply a mashed avocado. This place was obviously not affiliated with the El Sombrero we all have come to love. They are riding El Sombrero's good name putting a tarnish on it. The food was mediocre at best. I couldn't get out of this place fast enough. The REAL El Sombrero restraunt chain should sue this place.
If I could give negative stars that would be it! Entered & we were the only people in there. Thought oh good will get good service. Nope! By the time we ordered 2 more tables had come in. After 2 baskets of chips & a refill...the other folks (2 other tables)got their meals ..waitress no where to be seen. When the 3rd table got their meals we finally saw our waitress. Oh! I'll check. She did come tell us about her tablet thing messed up. But you would think when she delivered the second tables food she was waiting on she would have the sense to check on our meal. Oh it will be out in 5 minutes she said We left... won't be going back, ever.
Absolutely hands down the worst food I’ve ever had. Took two bites of my food and that was it. The other people in our group tried finishing theirs but we just couldn’t do it. There was only one small table that came in while we were there. This was a Friday evening so I was confused but now I under Why it was so slow. It’s a cute little place. Most of the waitstaff is just kinda whatever. But the food, absolutely terrible. I’ve never seen a Mexican restaurant in east Texas fail so badly
First time eating here. Had to ask several times for things, was over charged on items. Was not shown the bill when checking out. Waitress yelling at owners father. Beware of eating here. Really disappointed. Was told owner would call and never heard back.
I used to love coming to this restaurant. I brought my wife there two days ago and was very disappointed with the food and the service. We asked for limes with our tea and the waitress forgot. When we reminded her she brought out a small cup of two quartered limes that were old and moldy. I asked her to take them away and all she did was was say so do you want lemons, I must have not seen they were moldy. No apology at all. When the food came out shortly, my fried avocado was old and rotten. Lots of black colored parts to the avocado. We were also charged $1 for queso and another $1 for chicken fajita. I thought the menu said those were the only choices, so I don’t understand why the up charge. Overall, just nasty and disgusting. I do not believe I will bring my wife back.
El Sombrero WAS the best Mexican restaurant in Canton at one time. However, it has gone downhill in recent weeks. The food has lost its quality as evidenced by stale chips being served on multiple occasions. The cheese dip also tasted old and was dried out on last visit. The fajitas contained poor quality beef with much gristle. However, the service is still somewhat decent.
