My wife and I traveled over an hour from Greensboro just to get something better and we were not disappointed. The sushi was excellent. Its hard to believe that this was the same species of fish. It was fresher and more flavorful than most of your typical sushi joints. The real wasabi, (not the green horseradish paste) put the flavor over the top. The brussel sprouts are rarely done right and these were fantastic. I can't say enough good things about the chef/owner. His skill and hospitality are what separates Iza from just about every other sushi place. Anytime I have a special occasion, I will be back.

I have some dietary restrictions right now, and I called ahead to make sure I’d be okay to eat here— the host, Ted, made me feel heard and like I wasn’t being an inconvenience. It meant a lot to me! My sashimi was delicious, and it wasn’t a problem that I brought my own soy sauce substitute. The customer service I received was excellent, and the restaurant is definitely Their bar appears well-stocked (I’ve bartended before— I wonder if they have alternative storage for some of the liquor bottles though, it looks like they’d be a pain to work around), and the sushi is well-formed. I’m a sashimi girlie at the moment, so I can’t speak to the rice texture, but I’d expect excellence here. I’m excited to dine here again, thanks Ted!

We had a great time at Iza, the yellowtail jalapeno and first class bourbon sampler were great. The salmon sashimi was very fresh and we loved the tuna crudo. They also have real wasabi.

Wait staff was incredibly attentive. The Carolina roll was AMAZING (cooked, I'm not a raw sushi person). I'm looking forward to going back just for that! I got the chili garlic noodles and my husband got the ramen - both very good! Kid loved that miso soup and California roll.

Another great meal at Iza. We have known Yung for many years and always appreciate the excellent food and service at Iza. Having lived in Japan for two years, we can appreciate the freshness and the selection of sushi and have never been disappointed. Our server Christian was excellent. The only downside is we have to go deep into Chapel Hill...Go Duke! Take a look at the photo. You can't get this at Harris Teeter!

I absolutely loved my entire experience at Iza Whiskey and Eats. My mom and I came to eat here a few nights ago, and I want to point out how incredible the customer service was (and the food, of course). Yung, the owner, was wonderful, and offered us some sake on the house which was so unnecessary but so incredibly kind. When I told him I'm not a big sushi fan, he suggested the chili garlic noodles and they were quite possibly the best I've ever had. My mom got sushi and claims it was the freshest fish she's had in a long time. I seriously can not recommend this place, and the people, enough.

First time coming here and it was such an excellent experience. Lief ( apologies if I misspelled your name brother) took amazing care of my mother and I. He was incredibly knowledgeable about the offerings and exemplified excellent service. The food was fantastic. So much flavor and the portions were plenty! We left full and happy. I will absolutely be bringing friends and colleagues here for the ice cold beer and some of the best sushi I’ve ever had!

Incredible sushi, best I've had in the Triangle area. This place is a must visit. Everything we ordered was absolutely delicious, beautifully prepared and presented. You can taste quality and care in every bite. What sets this place apart - in addition to the food, is the host. So warm, attentive and welcoming. Amazing service, cozy atmosphere, amazing food!!!

Yung & his incredible staff just gave us the best impromptu experience. ❤️ When I tell you that we have had omakase all over the world- I am not exaggerating and this was one of the best. The seared salmon sushi with the truffle butter ponzu...bury me in it and call it a day! Presentation, personality, service...A++++. Don't miss out!

Great food and awesome service. Came with my wife and sushi-lover-daughter for dinner while dropping her off for college. My wife is gluten free so they made a special roll just for her while my daughter and i shared 3 specialty rolls all of which were amazing. I had a whiskey sour with a Japanese whisky which was also terrific. Highly recommend.

Outstanding Sushi & Atmosphere Iza is a true gem. The sushi is exceptional: fresh, beautifully prepared, and full of bold, balanced flavors. Each roll is plated like artwork, with vibrant colors and creative touches that make every bite memorable. The atmosphere is modern, stylish, and relaxed, making it the perfect spot to enjoy amazing sushi with friends or family. Carrboro is lucky to have this place: an absolute must for sushi lovers.

Easy 5 stars all around. The Carolina sushi roll is amazing. The mango passion drink is also a must. Outdoor seating, indoor seating, and a bar. I always make reservations because sometimes it gets packed!

I absolutely adore Iza Whiskey and Eats! I had the most fabulous time here, the service was excellent - particularly the Claire’s and Will! The food was delicious as was the wine (recommended by the aforementioned, Will), and I will totally be coming back. As a local resident, having places with such a comfortable and chic atmosphere like this one is so important!

Chef Yung is making a mark in the culinary world, crafting memorable dining experiences through his restaurant creations. My wife and I recently visited his establishments, Iza Whiskey & Eats and La Montana, showcased his passion and skill. An incredible moment which blossomed from a surprise dinner and a privilege to be hosted by him. Iza Whiskey & Eats offers a vibrant elegant look. The restaurant's modern Japanese decor and tranquil ambient sounds create a peaceful atmosphere. A standout dish was the scallops, seared with a golden-brown crust and a melt-in-your-mouth taste. The u10 scallops were complemented by a freshly made uni butter saffron sauce and a shiso pesto, striking freshness . The sashimi, nigiri, and sushi rolls are also highly recommended, featuring incredibly fresh, top-quality fish sourced from intercontinental waters. What truly makes the restaurant shine is the impeccable hospitality provided by the staff. Every team member greets and serves with smiles and professionalism. Chef Yung and his fiancé show priceless dedication, passion and love for what they cherish to not only make diners proud, but their family. This was written from our personal experience which we warm heartedly thank him and his fiance plus staff. Second handedly, based on a decade of hospitality experience in both corporate and leisure settings, complemented by knowledge gained from two prestigious institutions: Cornell and Johnson & Wales University.

Fantastic spot with great service. Solid whisky selection that goes well with a number of sushi selections. My Dovetail pour paired really nicely with multiple (fresh) sashimi and nigiri options. Really enjoyed chatting with the owner and the staff. Definitely will be back next time around.

The food, all of the staff and atmosphere was great. My waiter (Hunter) is a wonderful person and great with customer service. There was wonderful recommendation on the food and cocktail menu. I enjoyed listening to the music Playlist. I will definitely return to enjoy the food and company.

We really enjoying going to Iza. Last time we were there, we got a Kobe beef special that they brought out for us to sear on hot stones. So fun! There are a lot of different options on the menu - sushi, noodles, edamame. They also have a great selection of sake. Their cocktails and fun and spot on. We highly recommend!

10 out of 10 for everything. Evelin our server was amazing. The hostesses were friendly. Yung the chef and owner was kind and attentive. The food and drink were delicious. You can taste the quality in the food. Celebrating my birthday at Iza Whiskey was the best decision. I look forward to going back.

We came in from Charlotte to visit our Son whose attending school at Chapel Hill and took him out to dinner here. We all agreed it was fantastic and are looking forward to coming back. The food was delicious, staff was amazing, and the owner Young even came out and spoke with us for a while and he was very friendly. For those who love sushi it was very fresh and the presentation was excellent. For those like my Wife who do not there were plenty of great options to choose from. We had great weather and they have a great patio to enjoy eating outdoors. I highly recommend dining here.

A fabulous meal and an immediate new favorite. I loved the outdoor seating and despite being right on Main Street, the design is such you hardly notice the traffic. Best gyoza I have eaten in Chapel Hill - delicate and flavorful. The Spyder roll was so well put together, and absolutely tasty. We didn’t have a whiskey flight last night, but can’t wait to go back and try one. Highly recommended.

Tried Iza Whiskey and Eats and ordered the tonkotsu ramen and mochi ice cream. The ramen was good overall, though it tastes a bit different from traditional Japanese tonkotsu ramen. The pork was solid and satisfying. The mochi ice cream (not pictured) and pork bao buns was really good and definitely a highlight. Overall, a nice place to eat with good food, even if it’s not super traditional. Would still come back to try other items.

Overall, had a decent experience at Iza. There was a miscommunication between the servers that caused us to sit for about 10 minutes before anyone came to our table. After that, service was great. Food was good, not great. With the exception of the 007 roll which was fantastic. We won’t be seeking out a return trip to the restaurant, but would come back if craving sushi and need an easy place to go.

The restaurant could use a dedicated host, being a Friday night they were slammed and the servers were having to multitask between seating people, to go orders and serving. It took over an hour for us to get our food after being seated, the server did a good job of keeping us informed and did well. Despite the wait the food was good. They seemed understaffed and could do better if they had more people on the weekends.

Overall the food was fine, but way overpriced. All of the dishes should’ve been $2-3 less for what we got. Sushi was good but there are better places for fresher fish in the area. Calamari was too heavily breaded. The service was good but they brought all of our food at once rather than pacing it. They happily held some of the dishes in the kitchen but still annoying.

Ordered take out. Picked up at the time they said it would be ready and walked right back to my hotel. Karagee was soggy and tasted my mildly burnt (bad oil?). Bao we're just ok, would not be surprised to find out they were frozen from a box. Sushi was just fine, but the take out boxes aren't tall enough to the rolls, so they lost some sauce/toppings to the lid.

I went here about a year ago and was very impressed, but just had a recent experience that seemed subpar. On entering, I was presented with two paper menus that has large reddish splotches of (soy sauce?) that kind of gave an immediate "ick" factor. The table I was sat at had a bit of a fruit fly problem in the middle of winter and I was swatting the little things left and right. The Salmon sashimi had long bits of the back/bloodline and seemed like the chef this night didn't care. I miss the menu I found earlier in this restaurants life and being presented with specials or better options. Sadly I don't think I'll be coming back here again.

I came here for my birthday dinner. I was in a party of 4 and wanted to sit outside because it was way too quiet and empty for a saturday night birthday dinner inside. Riley was a great server and was very accommodating and nice. However, the all of food was bland and the iza crunch tasted like floral cleaner. When I requested a swap or refund on one roll, I was denied both options for both options I still had to pay. Don’t come here for bday celebration.

I visited this place on Friday and unfortunately had a very uncomfortable experience, not because of the service I personally received, but because of how the manager treated one of his employees. During my visit, I witnessed the manager speak to an employee in a rude and demeaning manner in front of customers. It was completely unnecessary and honestly hard to watch. No one deserves to be spoken to that way, especially in their workplace. The tension was obvious, and it completely changed the atmosphere. It made my experience uncomfortable, and instead of enjoying my time there, I found myself feeling bad for the employee. I was honestly relieved to see the employee leave. I hope they find a workplace where they’re treated with respect. Customer experience isn’t just about the product or service, it’s also about how a business treats its staff. Unfortunately, this was disappointing to witness.
