Opinions de Chimney Indian Kitchen + Bar Chapel Hill
this is the best salmon i’ve ever had (the tandoori salmon) and everything else was delicious and the waiters are always super nice!
Excellent experience here at Chimney. The food was phenomenally delicious, the service was superior, and I’ll definitely be coming back here. The mixed grill platter and the Chicken Tikka Masalaa was amazing. You won’t regret dining here. The owner is personally serving, cooking and handling takeout orders. He runs the restaurant well. Great location with free parking as a bonus! Dessert was awesome, and same with the veggie samosas! Bring your date here for a unique blend flavors and spices.
Today, I tried Chimney Indian Kitchen for the first time, and despite my trepidation, it far exceeded my hopes! After recently trying another Indian restaurant on Franklin - which was the worst Indian food I've ever had (35+ years) - this food was spectacular. I am unable to eat cilantro due to crappy genes, so I called ahead to ensure my meal would be "cilantro-free". After consulting with the chef, I was assured it would be. I ordered Chicken Tikka Masala, with garlic naan. The chicken was tender chunks of white meat, which could be pulled apart to mix with the rice and sauce, which was the perfect medium spice level and the right amount of tomato. I may even try "hot" next time. The naan was light and fluffy, easily pulled apart, and loaded with garlic. Truly delightful! And the portions were very generous - enough for a second meal. I couldn't be more pleased. And because the prices are extremely reasonable, this is my new favorite Indian restaurant. I can hardly wait to try other dishes. So I suggest you avoid the over/under priced (aka bargain) Indian fare, and just go straight to Chimney Indian Kitchen. I wish I had tried them sooner 🥰.
I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food and the complexity of flavors and spices. The naan bread was hot out of the oven and had a wonderful, chewy texture that happens only when naan is fresh. The achar pickle I ordered separately was mixed with green mango, lime and lotus root, it’s one of the better achars I have tasted in the USA. This is a great place for anyone who appreciates nice Indian food.
It was definitely great. Such a nice and well-served place with affordable price for lunch. I do love Indian food m, curries especially for my health and the taste which is good. You can choose your food spicy, medium or mellow. I chose it medium and it certainly was. It was my second visit and I still enjoyed the food. I can't stop my willness to visit here again. Chimney!
Everything was wonderful. Food was one of the best experiences I've ever had and pure art in a plate. I recommend everyone to come here atleats once. The atmosphere is peaceful and the waiter was respectful and nice. Me and my friends finished our plates in under 7 minutes. It was so great
I absolutely adore the service and food at Chimney Indian Kitchen + Bar! The flavors are authentic and the variety of foods are appreciated. I've dined at this particular restaurant on three different occasions and the food has been warm, delicious, and absolutely top quality. I very much recommend trying out the food here as everything from the taste, texture, atmosphere, and portion sizes are amazing! Prices are reasonable, and really you have nothing to lose by dining at Chimney Indian Kitchen! So far, I've had the non-vegetarian lunch special, mixed grill entree, and the tandoori salmon entree. Everything was perfectly cooked, the flavors were exquisite, and overall the service from Pravin was top-quality! I wanted to add this drink (in the images I attached) is amazing! Lovely flavors and presentation. The staff here, especially Pravin, are so nice and wonderful people! The atmosphere really is amazing here! Now, what are you waiting for! Go try this all out!
Excellent taste and presentation. The quantity is adequate. The staff is very friendly and kind. You could taste the freshness in all the food. The samosas were fresh made, unlike most Indian restaurants. We also had the paneer tika and malai kofta and they tasted amazing and unlike anything we have had before. Nice fresh naans and end it all with some delicious desert.
A wonderful dining experience! The presentation of the food is just as beautiful and elegant as the inside of the restaurant. I had the shrimp tandoori and chicken masala with garlic naan. All of it was wonderfully delicious. I also had 2 cocktails. One was called falling heart and the other river water. Both were delicious and beautifully garnished. Pravin was a great bartender and server. He is very personable and professional with the patrons. I will definitely recommend to all my family and friends.
Just Wow! Stellar restaurant right in the best location of Franklin street, home to UNC Chapel Hill. The ambiance of the restaurant is welcoming and elegant. For the first course they bring you an almost tortilla-like chip with two dipping sauces, perfect while you converse with your guests upon waiting for your entree. Ever had Indian style wings? The season-mix their wings are tossed in is AMAZING. Totally different from any restaurant I’ve been to. Their crispy fried veggie or chicken samosas are something I had trouble sharing. With dishes that suit all dietary needs, you’ve got a wide selection of mouth-watering dinner options here. This is the perfect spot to bring friends for a night on the town. Needless to say the service here only compliments your experience. I will definitely be coming again!
A great spot for Indian food in Chapel Hill. Whether you’re dining in or grabbing a drink at the bar, the experience is enjoyable from start to finish. Food & Drinks • The veg and non-veg thalis are a great option, offering a well-balanced meal with three curries, naan, an appetizer, rice, and a dessert. The portions are typical, and everything tasted fresh and flavorful. • Even though thalis are usually pre-set, you can request your preferred spice level, which is a nice touch. • The bar is well-stocked with liquor, beer, and Indian drafts, making it a great place to grab a drink along with your meal. Ambiance & Service • The restaurant is clean and cozy, creating a welcoming atmosphere for both casual and special occasions. • The staff is friendly and attentive, ensuring a pleasant dining experience. • There’s plenty of parking, so you don’t have to worry about finding a spot. Pricing • The prices are reasonable, especially considering the quality and portion sizes. Final Thoughts Chimney Indian Kitchen + Bar delivers on great food, a solid drink selection, and a welcoming atmosphere. If you’re looking for a place with authentic Indian flavors and a good bar in Chapel Hill, this is definitely worth a visit!
Lovely ambiance with window seats and the world passing by. The books and Cosy corner by it made the professor in me super happy and almost at home. Outside seating is great too. The vessels were clean and host very charming, except when asked for extra time, they almost forgot us. Food is reasonably priced, sufficient amount and happily fresh. I would definitely come back. Host has been gracious enough to let me have whole wine bottle for the price of only two drinks as I collect wine bottles from India…overall a lovely evening with delicious food and vibes…
Outrageously fun cocktails... highly creative. The food was very good. Kids ordered samosas and some rice dishes with chicken although from my observations, I didn't see much chicken at all. I ordered curry shrimp and it was a tad on the bland side with what seemed like 3 lumps of shrimp. However, the service was excellent... the mixologist server used to work at a 5-star resort in Mumbai so he was great. Contemporary atmosphere near UNC Chapel Hill. Overall, had a great time and it's worth the experience. Maybe an off day with the curry. Still will go back again. Edit: Sister pictured. She lived in Delhi years ago and knows Indian cuisine. She loved this place ❤ Next time I'm in NC I will go back.
Service was foodz very quick. Reshmi kabab was bland. The platter was bland except for the shrimp. Chicken Rogan Josh was like chicken curry with chicken that was very chewy. Tikka masala gravy was great, chicken was chewy. Best was the lobster masala, chilli garlic naan and goat cheese naan. The kaminee drink was great. I had asked for a mojito, I never got it , I was charged for it which I had to point out. Price is great, but food didn't appeal to my taste buds.
Stale food when heated really well still is stale food. No paneer in Saag Paneer. 4 puny bits of paneer in paneer butter masala. Dal makhni and chole were swimming in reused oil - to mask its staleness. No flavor whatsoever. Rice was battered(basmati rice(supposed to be long grain) broken is a dead giveaway) from mixing old chunks of rice to break it up while re-heating. This was leftover food around the kitchen/fridge heated and packed for a to-go. Hence 0 stars for food.
