Opinions de The Island Spot Carrollton
The Island Spot in Carrollton recently catered lunch for our corporate office, and when I say the food was on point, I mean it. Everything was so true to authentic Caribbean and Jamaican flavors. From the main dishes to the sides like the cabbage and plantains, every single item tasted fresh, well seasoned, and exactly how it should. It is rare to find food that captures the true taste of home style Caribbean cooking, but they absolutely delivered. I could honestly eat here every day if I could. Highly recommend for both catering and dining in.
Honestly one of the best Jamaican food I’ve had in a while! The serving of Oxtail was decent, rice tasted good, and the callaloo was also good. Callaloo was a bit too soft for my preference, but maybe others like it that way. However, it was very tasty. The oxtail was a tad bit salty, but the tenderness really made up for that. Overall, I did enjoy it! Definitely my new go-to spot. Customer service is also immaculate.
The server was very personable and accommodating and the food was delicious. We had oxtails, pasta pasta beef patties with coco bread and took and extra order of rice and peas and oxtails home. Will definitely be back.
We had such a great experience at this Jamaican restaurant for my hubby’s birthday lunch. The food was fresh, flavorful, and full of authentic taste, and the bread pudding was amazing!! As you can see in the picture, we devoured it. What really stood out was the service. Our server, Marlo, went above and beyond to make sure we felt welcomed and taken care of. He was attentive, friendly, and made great recommendations. And just found out that he also made the bread pudding! OMG!! It’s rare to find both amazing food and excellent service in one place, but this spot delivered both. I’ll definitely be coming back and asking for Marlo!
I visited The Island Spot in Carrollton today in celebration of Jamaican Emancipation Day, and I was blown away by the experience! They had a stew peas special for the occasion, and let me tell you—it was absolutely delicious! 😋 The portion was generous, the meat was tender and flavorful, the rice was perfectly cooked, and the plantains were sweet and golden. I also loved the fresh salad with avocado—it added the perfect balance to the meal. Not only was the food authentic and well-seasoned, but the presentation was beautiful (even in a to-go box!), and the service was exceptional. Everyone was so friendly and welcoming, it truly felt like a little piece of Jamaica in Texas. 🇯🇲 Big up to The Island Spot for celebrating our culture with love and flavor. I’ll definitely be back soon!
The Island Spot is a solid Jamaican restaurant that we stumbled upon while shopping. Plenty of parking to be found outside. Patio seating is available. Great interior color with beautiful vibrations and frequencies. Felt like home when stepping into this restaurant. Shout out to all my West Indians! Love the musical sayings on their wall paying tribute to reggae music and legends. Sasha our server was friendly, accommodating and nice. She was playing the gospel jams on a Sunday! Thank you for the playlist. The Menu had many good selections to choose from. We ate outside on their front patio. Wife and I decided to share a plate with two proteins: fried fish with pickled veggies and curry chicken with rice n peas and cabbage. Food was good. Quality flavor with a homemade feel. It hit the spot for us hungry shoppers. Full bar with many cocktail selections. Rum is the name of the game in the islands. Love to come back here again and explore more of the menu when I am back in town.
If you’re looking for authentic Jamaican flavors with an island vibe, The Island Spot is the place. From the moment you walk in, you’re greeted with warm hospitality that makes you feel right at home. The atmosphere is vibrant, since we dined on Sunday after church, the gospel music was on point. The food was absolutely outstanding! We had the Curry Chicken with rice & peas and cabbage, Brown Stew Chicken with rice and peas & cabbage and a beef patty with coco bread. The chicken was falling off the bones. It was so good we placed a to go order for dinner. The rich, flavorful gravy had us savoring every bite. Our server Marlow provided top-notch service. He was friendly, attentive and made some great recommendations. The expedient service, the vibe and delicious cuisine delivered an unforgettable Caribbean experience. Can’t wait to go back!🏝️🔥
It was my husband and mine's first time visiting this restaurant and we already can't wait to go back! The service is excellent! We went for lunch during a weekday and we were seated right away. Our server, Sasha, greeted us as soon as we arrived, provided us with the drink menu and gave us some time to look at the lunch menu and decide what we wanted. Their drink menu is INCREDIBLE - a book in itself it has so many options! I had the hardest time deciding what I wanted and asked Sasha for her recommendation. I'm always looking for something strong, but not too sweet, and she recommended the Flaming Hurricane and it was perfect! Not too much ice to water it down so I only needed one drink to get the feeling I was looking for ;-). My husband and I decided to order the platter as an appetizer and got the jerk wings, beef patty and fried plantains. They were all absolutely amazing - perfect seasoning without being greasy or too saucy. I would absolutely recommended going during lunch time. Their meals come with two sides so you get more bang for your buck. I was in the mood to be adventurous so I got the goat curry with spinach and rice and beans. The sides were outstanding - I really enjoyed the spinach. The goat curry had a great flavor (my husband will order it when he returns), but it was a tiny bit too salty for me. It did not stop me from eating it all though...lol. My husband wanted to try a variety of options so he got the 3 meat platter with jerk chicken, brown stewed chicken and fish fillet. He enjoyed everything on his plate. I was very impressed with the authentic ambiance inside the restaurant and our server, Sasha, was so pleasant, helpful and patience. If you enjoy Jamaican food you CANNOT go wrong but heading to The Island Spot!!
This place is amazing. We placed an online order and we expected to sit down and wait for it, but the food was ready in less than 10 minutes. The staff was kind and funny in the short time we were there. Driving home with this food was so bad because I was tempted to open it and just eat it then and there 😅. The brown stew chicken was very savory with a rich sauce which complimented the fresh cabbage. For me, the star of the show was the curry chicken which was SO tender it just fell off the bone. The sauce was flavorful and the perfect consistency to eat with the well cooked rice. I need to come back here asap so I can try more things.
Alright, we need to talk about this place. The vibe? Imagine chill island energy mixed with "come on in, we've been expecting you." Before I could even blink, I was greeted by Sasha's smile -- which,…

The food had a good flavor, but I would have appreciated a bigger portion size and a crispier french fry. Overall not what I expected! I would’ve preferred a fish that was a little bit more crispy or firm with less sauce
The food here is good. I love the oxtails and jerk chicken! Also when dining in the drinks are really good & strong. Really cute restaurant.
Love the Jamaican food here! It has become one of our most favorite eateries. The service can be a bit slow when it gets busy, but I promise you it's worth the wait. I highly recommend you visit this authentic joint if you're in the mood for a taste of jerk or curry chicken or better yet, oxtail!
4/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I really enjoyed this Jamaican spot. The casual and laid back atmosphere was great as well as the service. The drinks were good, so was the food. I had cocoa bread, stew chicken, cabbage, rice and peas. I enjoyed the food minus the cocoa bread (I wish it was sweeter). My meal was around $30. I’ll definitely be back and next time with my family. Check it out!
First time trying the jerk chicken and it was good. It was recommended by a friend. The sauce it came with was hella spicy but sweet at the same time so I liked it. Hubby had the jerk nachos and he said they were good but most of the topping were only at the top of the nachos and when that's gone he just had a lot of dry chips. I would go back to try the curry chicken and some dessert like key lime pie. The service was alright. Not much of any greeting at any point but okay.

Some of the best patties I have ever tasted! I would recommend that the oxtail portions be a bit bigger. It was a small amount of food for the price but delicious nonetheless.
The oxtails were all gristle, and the rice was dry without much flavor on its own. Not worth the price.
Today's wait longer than expected for not busy at the time. I thought possibly a good thing because maybe the food is been made fresh. I ordered Ackee and Saltfish. I was surprised at how small the serving size was for the price, pic included. Server seems preoccupied with his conversation with fellow employee then his phone. I rated this place in the middle because I had better service earlier in the week and the Jerk Pork meal tasted okay even though again the serving size was still surprising.
I wanted to love this place but my oxtails were flavorless! My rice was basic and cabbage cold in many spots like the food was reheated. As a Jamaican, I know what Jamaican food should taste like and this missed the mark. Oxtails should have a lot of flavor from being seasoned overnight the very least. These came out super quick and lacked every ounce of what a delicious Jamaican style oxtail should be. The Jamaican mule was very delicious. I would have to try another dish but I was only in Dallas for the weekend and wanted oxtails. Service was lackluster. Was left alone my entire meal and the check was then given to me. I wanted dessert but the waitress disappeared, welp!
The food was not bad but it was not hot it came out warm. My drink was too sweet. We ordered key lime pie for dessert to go and the presentation was not there. I haven't been here in quite awhile so I can say it didn't taste as good as before. Our waiter was nice and attentive. Maybe better luck next time.
I was getting a lot of recommendations to try this place out being that I moved to Dallas recently from Jersey. As a Haitian woman, I kept my expectations low, and I’m happy I did so. The flavors of everything ordered was something i’ve never tasted before. The red snapper had some sort of sweetness to it. Why? The portions were tiny. And if you know anything, caribbean people gonna give you some rice. They gave us a scoop of rice and the beans were not soft. Paid $10 for one piece of the escovich fish filet. By far the tiniest piece of fish I’ve ever seen, smaller than the bagged frozen fish from the supermarket . The stewed chicken was bland and also hard. The curry shrimp… bland. The beef patty.. bland. Too expensive for their portions. Won’t be trying again, maybe only for drinks. It’s nice inside, and the service was good.
I have been to this place twice and I will admit the food is very good. The only thing I will say was I went Yesterday purchased the OXTAIL dinner and THEY GAVE ME BEEF SHANKS.... They were good but dont charge me Oxtail prices for BEEF SHANKS. BONE WAS BIG AS HELL
I hadn't been to this restaurant in about 3 years and unfortunately I don't think I'm going to come back. The food that I ordered was perfectly fine but during my visit with my family we had a very long wait time for our food and no one came out to say anything or give an update I had to flag down a waitress to ask. And then when we paid our ticket, they tip themselves $30, stating that parties of five and up get charged a 20% gratuity. 20% for her just refilling water and bringing us a receipt. Although the encounters with the waitress were friendly, she did not need a $30 tip as she didn't even ask my family if they wanted refills for the drinks that they had ordered. My sister said that her rice was cold as well. My brother-in-law's oxtails were mostly bone, & they split them in half, definitely not worth $25 Unfortunately I have to agree with the rest of the people and say that the service is not great. By the way, nowhere on that menu did it say parties of five or greater usually in restaurants it's party of six. I think because we were short one person, they decided they were just going to charge 20% anyway. I tried to look for it on the way out, and there is nothing at the front of the store stating that parties of five or greater are charged 20%!
The actual restaurant had a nice ambiance and was clean. Based on the little interaction I had with the staff they were polite but the whole 20 mins I waited there for my food at the bar I was never offered a water or drink. However, the food was extremely lacking. I was definitely disappointed with the quality, quantity, and taste of most of the food. Feel like I was $30+. I should've have known when I saw the "s" on the menu for the oxtail and no old lady in site that it wasn't going to be what I expected. What I liked: When I ordered I did ask how dark the plantains were because I love mine sweet and they we're definitely sweet and fried just right. The chicken patty filling was tasty as well. What I didn't like: The lunch and dinner oxtail meal was the same price ( like $22). I received a plate full of basically bones. One piece I thought might have a little meat on it was again another bone but disguised by the gravy. The whole plate was flavorless and I had to add my own seasoning. The rice and peas were extremely dry, not even scooping some of the oxtail gravy on it helped much and I skipped on the cabbage all together. I'm a 4 month post op bariatric patient and my stomach holds 2oz. I order a large meal thinking it was going to be good and I could eat on it for a couple days but I finished the oxtail in addition to some pieces of plantain and a piece of the chicken patty in one sitting before feeling full. I've personally never seen a white chicken patty. The crust is usually yellow and flaky. They also cooked most of the filling out of it. Overall I took a risk looking for good Caribbean food during my visit to Dallas and this was not it
Awful. Came in for the first time in years and the food was terrible. Cabbage was too crunchy , rice and peas had no flavor and overcooked on the stew chicken was undercooked. Beware online orders.

Should have left when I was asked to pay before receiving the food. Portion of food I was given is what you would give elementary kids in the school cafeteria. Literally 1 scoop of rice with 3 oxtails. I'll never return. Professionalism and common courtesy should be extended to every patron that enters the establishment. I hate to make generalized statements but damn WE are our own worst enemies FOR NOTHING AT ALL.
Waste of $18 for a regular brown stew chicken where they give the most minuscule pieces of chicken submerged in gravy that taste like nothing w/ an ice cream scoop of rice. I went to let the girl at the register know I didn’t like the food & she said they couldn’t do anything about the food because it was picked at so all they can do is give me a piece of jerk chicken.
