Greatest chicken ever. My wife and I got the two piece combo and our sides were not only very tasty but a-plenty. Thank you, and thanks to the young man who took our order—courteous, efficient, and precise on the order. We have come before but yesterday’s lunch was the best. And again, in Castroville, everything tastes better.

This particular location in castroville is the best in customer service and food quality. I have never had a negative experience from this location. I would not visit other locations in San Antonio because of missing food items from my order for the quality of the product especially the location on potranco Road near 151. I always been close to $90 each time for a family of seven. This includes sides. I love this location. I recommended to all my friends and family. It's worth the trip.

There just ain't no better fried chicken then Bush's (except maybe Mama's). Great food and fast service from a great staff. I have eaten here on almost every trip through Castroville on the way to San Antonio, and it's always the same great dining experience. The staff rates ten stars, they are the best.

We drive a good distance to visit this location since there are not many Bush's chickens remaining in the area and the never disappoint us.

It's a very friendly and clean establishment, we picked up our lunch drive thru wait time was probably 5 minutes. I love this chicken not greasy and tastes great. I highly recommend going there!

I ordered the 8pc gizzard meal, maybe I shouldn't say anything, but they loaded me up! I'm telling you they were fresh, delicious and definitely there was more than 8!!! Sorry I was distracted by the mountain of gizzards that I forgot to take a picture 😋 Thanks

Nice clean place to eat fried chicken. The breading on the chicken is very crisp and the chicken appears to be of good quality. Very tasty and seasoned just right...The yeast rolls seem to compliment the chicken...I put honey..which they have at every table on the rolls...

Ordered a 3 piece mix and added a leg a la carte fresh out of the oil. This included a family order of french fries and a large sweet tea. Everything came out awesome. The assistant manager was extremely customer friendly and took very good care of me. Way better than Golden Chick.

The freshest, cripiest chicken I've had. The chicken gizzard were lightly battered and tasted wonderful. I was told that I must try them and I agree. You should try them, better than my mother makes and more than I expected. The corn nuggets were prepared for me and worth the wait. Friendly staff and quick service

In today's visit, the staff was friendly as always but I sat inside and heard the manager praising his staff and it was very encouraging! Builds a great morale! Food is always great and fresh out the fryer! My burnt finger tips are proof of that (Slightly exaggerated but they were hot. I played hot potato putting the food on plates).

The food and service is great. I get to go here very often and food is always nice and hot and fresh and when it’s not, they will replace your meal and make it right.

The new management is definitely noticeable...There is still some weeding out that still requires some attention. But definitely a 5 star rating now.... for the always fresh food... and the overall cleanliness of the place.. and the happy smiles from most of the staff..

Stopped by super fast on way home. Employees were very nice, food came out to us at a reasonable time. And most importantly the food was good. If I had to make any complaint it would be on the fries. Mine could of been fried a little longer to not be so "soft" and deff could of been salted better. But the chicken was good for sure.

Stopped in off peak hours on a road trip for a quick break from driving and a bite to eat. The chicken tenders are great! The gravy is thick and not watered down. The rolls are fantastic, glad I got an extra. I recommend. The tenders are on the large side in the picture those are three of them and I got the four piece meal and it's nice amount of food.

The place was okay. Nothing special. The staff was friendly, but no real motivation for customer service.

My kids eat well when dinner comes from there. The tea is good. The chicken is always fresh, side items vary in freshness.

Food as always is great and the tea is sooooo refreshing. I would have given a 5 star rating but I didn't because of the bad oder the inside of the dinning room. It's really bad. You need to see what's causing that. Even the warmer or freezer couldn't tell what it is, it's filthy. It's need to be wiped down.

Our first time eating at Bush’s & we were pleased with the food & service. Chicken tenders were huge & nicely breaded. Gravy was thick & tasty. Great comfort food.

Food was good, staff looked so sad to be there, there wasn't any locks on the doors keeping them there. If you don't want to be in customer service don't. I liked the chicken but won't be back because they so 😔.

The service was outstanding. The chicken strips was just slightly overcooked, or it's possible they could have been under the lights too long. But overall, they were tasty, and their gravy never disappointing. The fries were made fresh but did requested them to be made fresh. It's not a bad place to eat. I will be going back to eat the fried strips.

Place was clean, friendly staff. I tried the buffalo chicken fries which were good but had too much buffalo sauce for my liking.

Guy working the drive thru said it would take 15 mins for the tenders I ordered. I asked if they had fried chicken ready as I didn't want to wait. He said yes 20 minutes later got my order. Drug test your employees.

It had been since I had been to a Bishes Chicken. I was ordering a family order. A 10 piece fried chicken with 2 side of fries, Buffalo Fries and a bucket of Sweat Tea. It is a bit pricey. The food was very good and customer service was great. I do give it one star because when I got my 10 piece I only got 3 large pieces, the rest were small drumsticks and small wings. My family was still hungry because I wasn't expecting the pieces to be small. I was thinking for the price that I pay for I could get a decent about of fried chicken? Overall good experience but wish it was bigger pieces since my family was still hungry.

It was Christmas Eve at 4PM when we walked in and were greeted right away by a very polite young lady. We gave our order and went to get our drinks. We took a seat at one of the many tables and it was a little dirty but my wife wiped it of no biggie. The same young lady then brought us our food and politely asked if we needed anything and my wife asked for hot sauce, she hurried away and came back with a handful of hot sauce! Looking at the chicken I was worried cause it was a light color but when we took our first bite my tenders were juicy and crispy! I asked my wife and she said her drum was juicy and crispy as well! I also ordered fries which were crispy and soft in the center! My wife got some mashed taters which weren't great it was like like a block of potato but with the gravy she tore them up! we also ordered some corn bites and they were crispy and tasty, and I got a apple pie, which was awesome! It was my wife's first time and she was pleasantly surprised and quite happy with her meal although she'd probably skip the taters again! We'll def be back when we are in the mood for some fried chicken! BTW the gravy is the BEST!

I stop to pick up dinner ordered $50 worth of food got a family meal that is suppose to come with rolls . The manager took my order . When I got home no rolls so I called back cashier says they are out of rolls . The manager who took my order knowing they didn’t have rolls when the family meal advertised it didn’t inform me or try to do something about it before I got upset at home ready to eat . Poor management in my eyes not addressing the issue at hand knowing before there was an issue . Not going there again!

Food was fairly up to par, lines were long and just not really a place we go to as offen since the new wall menu. Not all items are on the menu as well as there is not any prices. Smh that's insane!

I don't no if any bush locations carry there own sauce. I haven't had any luck in my past 3 or 4 visits to multiple locations.

Love their food but always seem to get my order wrong and then never notice until I get all the way home. However I end up coming back and they give me what I was missing. Just an inconvenience.

The chicken is good, but the pieces are rather small and there's a thick coating of breading on all pieces. I prefer thinner breading on my chicken. Also, the recipe is heavy on salt but not much of other spices. The chicken is tasty. I ordered the 10- piece chicken only box for $18. Not bad. I'll order it again if I get a hankering for fried chicken.

Food is good but avoid the drive through at all costs. Arrived with 3 cars in front in the left lane and 2 in the right lane. Parked in the right. 2 cars came after me in the left lane and they both got their food before I even got to order. 30 minutes to get my food after every other car was long gone. Including the ones that came after me

Good prices friendly service. Food would be better if it was served fresh. I purchased the family meal of tenders spent almost 50.00 (47 and change) I asked for hot sauce and he was going to charge me! If I give you good business I feel like the condiments should be free well the condiments are free every where else...

Chicken great flavor but was wondering why no prices showing. A bit pricey but you don't find out till you order. Again chicken was good. However with what I ordered I was to get 5 rolls and only received 1.

Customer service was ok. Could be better. They only have 2 big tables and we had to wait for 1 of the tables to be cleaned off. Had to ask for our gallon of tea that was suppose to be half n half. The rolls were burnt and it wasn't the first time it has been like this every time we have gone there.

Strips were fresh but fries were so hard. Can’t understand when it was lees turn an hour after they opened and lunch time as well. Drive thru wait was so long. Would have called to complain about fires but we were passing through Castroville on our way to San Antonio.

You know it's already been 3 times the first 2 times I wanted to give you guys the benefit of the doubt. Forgetting my family order of fries. 3 times! Its my fault to i dnt check the bag, but I'm confident that the younger peeps wrking there are prompt. But man you guys are pricey and forgetting my family order and I drive all the way home....SMH... WHY EVEN BOTHER RIGHT?

The food was great but the men’s bathroom was a humid cesspool. Everything corroded, mold and toilets nasty. No reason other than money to not have clean bathrooms.

Usually the chicken is too bland. Last week, it was too salty (2019) After a year, finally went back (Oct 2020). Wish they'd serve their food hot! Gizzard's, Liver's and fries were all cold. Cooked early, just waiting for someone to order.

Asked for a 15 piece family meal. It was 45.00! Also asked for an additional 8 piece meal, they said it would take 25 minutes!! Asked for the packets of their seasoning and the young man said he could only give me 2 tiny packets! After spending 45.00!! I'm not going there again. By the way, went next door to Church's for the 8 pieces additional that we needed.

The food always tastes good, there’s no doubt about that, however I was really disappointed in the size of their tenders this time around. I was looking for the chicken inside of the fried batter not to mention they were really small. I’m not gonna complain about the staff, they’re always so nice. Please be cautious about what you’re serving your customers.

Paid $45 😮 for a 10 piece with 2 sides and rolls. The chicken was dry as heck. They were out of Mac and cheese! The young lady that took my order was friendly. Never again.

Never had a good meal here. Always OVER COOKED. Chicken & fries are re-fried instead of fresh. Rolls are burned on top but rare on the bottom. Only positive is that the service is friendly.

2 stars strictly cause service deserves something, they were hella slow, the guy was nice. Pretty sure he took my order, cooked it, packed it and then brought it out all by himself. If that's the case, I don't mind waiting but there was several other employees so...?. Food quality has really gone down. I used to get good topped off mashed potatoes, more the family mashed only gets 2 scoops or dry crusty potatoes. Mac and cheese hardly had cheese and the cheese that was on there was lumpy. I was excited to get that diabetes inducing sweet tea and what I got in my cup was that Lipton powdered tea you get from the store. My tea in the gallon was at least tea but it tasted old. No gravy in my kids meals, that sucked. Fries were super soggy. Hard pass on ever getting bush's again. Going back to Golden Chick but not the one in Castroville either. If I'm paying more for less, at least make the quality good.

Paid $12 for a 4 tender meal with mashed potatoes, an extra roll and a diet coke. Received 4 mutilated tenders, french fries, and no extra roll. They were out of straws and the menu had no prices? Dang Bush's disappointing...

Went in the restaurant in Castroville we had one person already at register. They took her order and she moved out of the way. My husband and I stood there for almost three minutes and with 6 employees behind the counter, not one even acknowledged us. I finally ask one of them who was running the register and he said oh I can get you. My husband saw one of the employees shirt said team lead. He told her that we had been standing there and no one even acknowledged us. Her response was they were all six taking care of other orders. No apology just a snide remark. Shame there is no longer customer service .

Wow, flies eveywhere. Two flies were fighting, or whatever the hell it was they were in mid air, and almost landed on my food, twice. Whoever the kid was running the restaurant has no business there. Chicken was dry, rolls were burnt. Horrible!!!!!

Don't bother coming for fresh food after 9pm. went twice at 920 and was told fryer was off and could not make anything fresh. burnt rolls. rock hard chicken, dried out chicken. place has gone down hill.

Okay how they handle food is absolutely disgusting. Ive seen them wipe gravy off a machine then turn around and wipe the prep counter with the same rag. Ive also seen them drop food then plate it like it was okay.

On 09/04/2023 I arrived at the 935 Old US Hwy 90 E, Castroville, TX 78009 location. As a regular Bush chicken customer, I've always order a 15 piece mix with drum sticks and wings only however; this location had taken my order and walked inside to prepare my order. After waiting 10 minutes, the young lady who had taken my order returned with no order and informed me that bushs chicken doesn't accommodate special order requests and that I would have to just accept whats included with the 15 piece mix. I laughed and said I will take my business elsewhere. I then arrived at the 8831 Potranco Rd, San Antonio, TX 78251 location and asked them if they accommodate special requests for a 15 piece mix with only legs and wings. Not only did they go above and beyond for providing me with my requested order but apologized on behalf on my negative experience and provided me with a special drum stick and wing combo. I have always eaten at bush chicken and have never heard of this. The Castroville location gave me a bad taste and I would never return to this location. Take your money else where!!

We dined in today and the food was fine it was great nothing wrong with it, but the young lady always refuses to give us utensils. I don't have a problem with a young man if I ask for them they'll give them to me but the young girls it's hard to get utensils from them really they expected three of us to eat with one fork

This is the worst fried chicken I have ever tried. It was cold chicken that was dropped in frier again. It was dripping with grease, and chicken was tough, and had a freezer burn taste to it. Not a great cobination. On top of it all, it was also over salted. This was a d-thru order.... oh surprise when we looked in bag... no napkins!!! And .... only one straw. It went in trash, I went hungry. Never again ....

Every time I’ve been here the service is terrible. We waited for over 20 minutes in the drive thru line for a simple tender roll order. The workers are always so slow to come to your car, take your order, and collect payment. They have a very inefficient system and don’t seem to care how long you’ve been waiting. I would not recommend this location.

Went in to ask if they were still open, an employee says yes (it's 8 something pm). I go and get my family out of the car which takes maybe 2 minutes, while someone else is locking the door. We called and said we were just told it was open, the manager says he can't serve anyone in the dining room because they're closed, dining room hours say 10. He says "well sometimes we close at 8" and thought that was normal. Absolutely terrible customer service.

The Bush's Chicken in Castroville has the most unhappy and unfriendly people I've ever seen, but then again most but not all the restaurants in the town have the same attitude. It must be a Castroville thing. They act like you are bothering them when go in to order, every time I've come here I have the same experience. Thing is I work in Castroville but live in San Antonio and eat here on occasion, but man today just hit me different, WHY can't people just be kind. Nastiest bushes ever. Literally every table was dirty. Had to wipe one ourselves. Bathroom was a mess with a broken paper towel holder. Chicken was cold and hard as a rock. Don’t do it.

I love Bush’s Chicken and we stopped to eat here. But the restaurant was hot and the place smell real bad. Too bad because all the other places were really good. Clean up your restaurant!!!

Someone higher up needs to come take a look at the disgust in this place. Even the bathroom is so gross, I'd rather use a truckstop restroom. Every table in here was dirty. The kid cooking with long hair was washing his disposable glove in the sink instead of getting a new one. Absolutely disgusting.

Manager should invest in note pads for the staff or perhaps hearing aids. Ordered 3 items, one on the bottom of the bag was wrong, instead I got burnt up unrecognizable nuggets of some kind. Not sure what they were perhaps burnt gizzards. Hour later finally get the right order and the rest of my food is cold and soggy. All they offered me was a coke. Don’t waste your time here.

I went through on July 10, 2025 made my purchase. I checked my bank account the the day to find my card had been ran twice 30 minutes apart. Called the bank to report the issue to find they tried running my card a third time but was fortunately declined. All three attempts would have been over $200. Tried to call the store about the issue to discover the phone does not work. Food is ok just wanted to put this out there for others to make sure you check out your purchases.

Don't worry, even if you call to place your order thirty minutes prior to picking it up. They'll just forget about you and then make you wait another 15 minutes. I had a huge lunch order and only a limited time remaining for lunch. I called ahead of time for a reason. I don't have the extra time remaining on my lunch break to wait on you to remember how to do your job. I don't get an apology. I only got excuses.

When you have a bad experience sometimes you just want to move on and wipe it from your memory but hopefully this review helps someone. - The restaurant is dirty - The food was stale - Drink tasted bad, had to pour it out - There was a fly stuck to the bread roll (I wish I took a picture, I was just shocked I thought you only see things like that in the movies) - They didn't have fries - They didn't have Bushbaby sauce. How do you not have Bushbaby Sauce? That's your signature! I am surprised this location is rated 4 stars, I believe it should be rated closer to 2.9 stars. If you must have Bush's try the location at 8831 Potranco Rd, San Antonio, TX 78251. The location at Potranco is better managed, the service is outstanding, and the food quality is high. If my first experience with Bush's Chicken was at this location in Castroville, I would have assumed all their other locations were similarly run down. The Bush's at Castroville is not well managed so save your money and time. It was a huge letdown.

Drive thru experience. 2nd attempt. Asked for a fresh order of family fries. She was in the store for 10 minutes. Comes out hands me a bag and the fries are cold!!! I asked another girl and told her the issue and she brings me a regular size fry in a brown bag after I paid 5.40 for a family fry!!! The first attempt my fries were raw in the center. I understand you have teens working for you but they should have some knowledge of customer service!! You Lost a customer and I will be going to Church’s from now on..

Awful! I’ve waited to review this place after going multiple times to see if they got better and NO! 5pm on a Saturday and they are out of main orders on their menu and gave us $30 worth of cold chicken! I’m very upset. To anyone reading this-find another chicken place!! Try church’s next door or even McDonald’s chicken nuggets would be better than what we were served. I know it’s hard to find good help, but where is management??? Seriously!?

Showed up an hour before closing and were told the lobby was closed. This seemed weird since we’ve been at other locations where the lobby wasn’t closed early but we didn’t mind taking food to go. What we did mind is that it turned out they were out of half the things we wanted and not willing to make more. It just seemed like they did not want to work and were closing everything down way too early. We decided to find food somewhere else. This hasn’t happened at any other locations so this stood out as a bad experience for us.

I know there's inflation but for 2 meals (a 2 piece and a 6) to be $21 is insane. Then on top of having high prices for "chicken tenders" they barely have any chicken on them! And the pieces that did have chicken were super tiny! What a rip off, even the mashed potatoes were dry. Also customer service could use some work, they seemed under trained like they were new and honestly seemed inexperienced. Also no silverware man, how am I supposed to eat my dry mashed potatoes. Guess I'll go get chicken from Bill Miller's next time.

Worst experience at this Bush's. We walked in and a worker was sitting on top of a flour bag, on his phone. Another customer had to go behind the counter to get the manager's attention. Service was very, very slow. Every table in the dining room was dirty and had crumbs and/or trash. If business is so slow you can play on your phone, you can clean tables. Our food was okay, but my bf's roll was very hard and dry. The food was fresh, though.

Where should I start? Well let's start with the unfriendly faces starting with the manager. No one smiles or greets you as you walk in. Everyone seems to be in a bad mood. The atmosphere is so uncomfortable. The dining area is dirty I don't think that the tables had been wiped down from lunch. Floor is dirty, fries and crust all over the floor. The restroom is gross🤢 the toilet paper dispenser is hanging by a thread (handicap stall) the other restroom has piss that looks like it's been there all day. The soap dispenser is laying on the counter with no soap available to the public. Baby roaches crawling around the sink. I really hope this issue is looked into. Pictures available upon request!

We were the first customers on Sunday morning to dine inside. The food was average- except green beans were cold. We asked for ketchup and was told they did not have any. Once we went to sit down we only found 4 clean tables. All of the other tables were dirty with food crumbs. Since we were the first inside customers that meant these tables were left dirty from the night before. There were 3 employees working when we were there. While we ate they sat back in a break room/office room. No one cleaned tables. I will never visit this Bush’s again. I tried to find a link to do a survey- and could not locate it- So I am posting this here. Very disappointed.

If I didn’t live 30 min away I would have gone all the way back. This was a waste of money and time won’t be going back there again. I paid 30 bucks for this. Just sad

Ordered 2 chicken strip meals and they gave us what I’m guessing was the little chicken pieces from the bottom of the basket. Thin dry and looked picked at. Tried to call to speak to someone but the number listed for bush’s is no longer in service so this is what I’m stuck with for dinner.

Probably the worst experience at a Bushes restaurant we've ever had. We usually enjoy the occasional dinner but tonight was horrible. We stopped there around 4 today and the two ladies working had no sense of urgency they looked at each other like are you getting them. They walked inside and one finally came back out. She was polite, took our order brought it out in a timely matter. We get home the rolls were burned, the chicken was tough, the Mac and cheese had no flavor and the red beans and rice were disgusting. The beans were literally canned refried pinto beans under dry white rice, no flavor and cold. Absolutely the worst Bush's we've ever been to. Do not recommend.

Did not enter the restaurant so can't make a comment on that environment and didn't taste the food so can't evaluate that either. However, going through the drive through, I can't help but feel like I'm being scammed so I suppose this review is aimed more at corporate big wigs who for some (perhaps cunning ploy) reason don't list prices at drive through or on website. I ordered a ten piece w/ two sides. Prices aren't listed for any items on wall-posted menu so I asked person taking my order the cost. He did not know & couldn't tell me. I assumed that it would be comparable to other fast food chicken joints and just placed the order. SURPRISE! Wait person returned with order when I am then informed that it would be $41 and some change, roughly $15+/- more than most other places. I refused the order promptly. What's the big secret and why isn't information about prices up front plain & clear? I wonder how many (non regular) customers who have no idea what their purchase will cost until the bag of goods is placed at their car window.

Awful worst decision I have made to dine in this location I would not recommend this location to no one 1-cook had no hair net and was scratching his ears and head with no gloves 2-I wanna assume it was a manger on duties he was moving the chicken with French fries same utensils. He threw something in the trash with the same utensil that touch the trash bag and put it back on the rack to be used in chicken. He was wiping sweat with arm right in front of the chicken and no gloves he took lobby trash out and assisted in serving clients with orders never washed hands all of the tables were dirty behind register where the food was it was also dirty I asked for my chicken to be cooked fresh and what they did same chicken sitting was dipped in oil and was served to me horrible place never again Stay away from this location I saw lots of contaminated food and utensils and lots of other things that health department should go take a look.

Spent $50 on food got all the way home and found that the whole box of rolls was missing. After many phone calls manager finally answered and apologized and said that we would get all of our sides free when we came back, this would be family size mash, Mac and okra along with a the box of missing rolls. Went back explained this was what was promised and that we wanted to pay for some chicken to go with our free sides. Guess what got charged another $40 for the whole meal and wasn’t given a receipt so that we could see that it happened until the charges hit the bank. I spent $10 for a 4 piece chicken tenders meal. This is what I got. Four "tenders" the size of nuggets and a piece of breading. When called the person who answered stated that they "know the tenders are small and instruct employees to give extra" but if extra is a piece of breading and the tenders are the size of nuggets then this isn't really worth $10 now is it? Unfortunately for me, I live about 20 to 25min away so I can't just go back to get this fixed. So please check your meals and make sure you are getting your money's worth. I think I'm going to be staying away from here for a while.

They get 1 star because negative stars are not an option! Employee spilled entire drink in my car and offered 3 napkins to clean in it. Called the manager about this and was hung up on 7 times. Complete waste of your time at this place. There are too many other options near this place that don’t have completely incompetent management. Can’t even cook their bread without burning it!
